My Chemical Romance headlining dates with Alkaline Trio, Reggie

Dates have been announced for My Chemical Romance 's upcoming headlining tour this fall. The 28-city jaunt will include openers Alkaline Trio and Reggie and the Full Effect .

My Chemical Romance is touring in support of Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge which sold more than 826,000 copies in the United States. Both Alkaline Trio and Reggie and touring in support of their recent Vagrant releases, Crimson and Songs Not to Get Married To respectively.

We'd talked about bringing out dancers for our headlining tour in the fall, but it's a big undertaking; you have to have a bus full of dancers. We've always wanted to do a big theatrical tour. But you have to do it in steps. You can't just spring it on people all at once. So we've been working on video content and lighting for the fall tour -- just some stuff we've never had. And hopefully with our next U.S. tour -- which might be for our next album -- we'll have some real theatrical stuff.

Riot Fest reviews Day 1: My Chemical Romance briefly suspends headlining set amid crowd surges; Alkaline Trio, Descendents, rock the park

Here’s a look at some of the sets from day one of Riot Fest 2022:

My Chemical Romance

Throughout the day on Friday, there was no mistaking the fact that most fans on this day showed up to see My Chemical Romance, many of whom camped out in front of the large Riot Stage for hours, enduring the daytime humidity and the acts that played before their heroes.

By the time the band came on at 8:30 p.m. for their 90-minute set, the entire crowd of Riot Fest — usually scattered over five stages, was focused on the Riot Stage to see the last band of the evening.

My Chemical Romance, which was active from 2001 to 2013 and then reunited in 2019, was set to head out on a reunion tour in 2020, a tour ultimately postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Headlining Friday night at Riot Fest, it was worth the wait. Although lead singer Gerard Way detests that the band is often described as Emo, it’s an apt description, as well as post-hardcore and gothic.

Way came out Friday night wearing what appeared to be a black overcoat, large dark sunglasses (despite that it was night), and a headscarf that resembled a babushka. He eventually lost the overcoat but kept the shades and headscarf on throughout.

The band started with a song released earlier this year, “Foundations of Decay,” and then launched into “NaNaNa,” getting the crowd to dance wildly. After three songs, because of the massive crowd, Way implored fans to take a step back so that people in the front didn’t get crushed. He repeated his request a couple songs later before launching into another tune, telling the crowd “this one’s kinda chill, so relax.”

He would repeat his request to the crowd after virtually every song and told them a couple times to send up anyone feeling dizzy or having trouble breathing to the stage to be escorted to safety. This created an unwanted pause between several songs, which Way noted by saying “there’s no flow to this show.”

Despite that, the crowd, perhaps the most fervent fans of the night, never lost their enthusiasm throughout, especially on songs like “Helena,” “This is How I Disappear” and “Welcome to the Black Parade.”

Way was in fine form, and his bandmates — drummer Jarrod Alexander, lead guitarist Raymond Toro, bassist Mikey Way (Gerard’s younger brother), and rhythm guitarist Frank Iero kept the crowd in a frenzy for their entire set (save for the pleas to not push forward toward the stage).

It got so bad that with about 18 minutes left in their set, the band was forced to leave the stage briefly and their production manager told the crowd to take a few steps back or he wouldn’t bring the band back out. The crowd quickly complied and the band resumed after about a two-minute delay.

They finished the night with “The Kids from Yesterday” and “Cancer,” a song they rarely play; there was no encore.

Alkaline Trio

Alkaline Trio performs on day one of Riot Fest in Douglass Park on Friday night.

Alkaline Trio, a hometown band that released their debut album in 1998, is proof that pop-punk has some legitimacy to it.

Led by Matt Skiba, Alkaline Trio never gained the mass popularity of Green Day, another pop-punk band which emerged about a decade before them — but arguably has just as much talent.

Perhaps Skiba took a cue from Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong, who wore a Metro T-shirt when he headlined Lollapalooza in August after playing the North Side club the night before. Thursday night, Alkaline Trio rocked Metro and tonight, Skiba wore a Metro T-shirt under an unbuttoned, collared shirt on stage at Riot Fest.

Though the band drew a large audience, a large portion seemed to be awaiting My Chemical Romance, slated to start on the adjacent stage immediately following Alkaline Trio. While that was too bad, it exemplified their fate as a perpetual bridesmaid.

Regardless, they played an inspired set and paid homage to their hometown on a perfect weather evening, with Skiba telling the crowd that he never saw Chicago look so beautiful — the skyline being visible to the crowd as they looked east toward the stage.

They played 21 songs at Metro Thursday night and while not as many tonight, many of their fans sang along as they did the night before. In addition to wearing the T-shirt, Skiba also gave Metro a shout-out, saying that they played their song “Bleeder” really well the night before and hoped it would be as good on this night. Judging by the response of the Alkaline Trio faithful as they launched into it, they delivered. And as they did the night before, they followed “Bleeder” with their song “Emma,” and then “This Could Be Love” — which seemed to encapsulate the feeling about the band for many in attendance.

This is the 25th year of the band’s formation, and on Friday night they looked like they could continue on for many more.

Taking Back Sunday

Adam Lazzara performs with Taking Back Sunday on day one of Riot Fest in Douglass Park.

Adam Lazzara performs with Taking Back Sunday on day one of Riot Fest in Douglass Park.

Taking Back Sunday proved there is still a market for whiny, poseur punk rock with an evening set at Riot Fest that should have gone to a better group. The band, originally from Long Island, which released their first album in 2002, hasn’t put out anything since 2016 when they released “Tidal Wave.” Perhaps it’s time for them to hang it up.

To be fair, Taking Back Sunday is more of a mediocre rock band with punk influence than a punk band. So, while they don’t come close to having the punk credibility of bands like Descendents, who played before them, or Bad Religion, who plays tomorrow, they have always had more mass appeal and record sales.

However, mass appeal is not always synonymous with good taste and that was proved again on Friday during their 60-minute set. Despite some-hard driving guitar licks from guitarist Shaun Cooper, the set proved repetitive and boring, and the fact that they went on at 6:20 p.m. only added to the already long food lines.

Descendents

Seminal California punk rockers Descendents have become a Riot Fest favorite over the years, and rightfully so, as their late afternoon set on Friday proved yet again that they merit a headlining spot.

Led by biologist/lead singer Milo Aukerman, whose caricature adorns the cover of five of the band’s seven studio albums, the group wasted no time in getting right to business.

Aukerman, the only member of the band to wear shorts on this humid day, came out with a water thermos strapped across his chest and wore a pair of sunglasses that he said he borrowed, telling the crowd he wears prescription glasses normally. He then launched into “Everything Sux,” which was appropriate since Riot Fest appropriated its “Riot Fest Sucks” branding from the band.

The band’s last album, “9th & Walnut,” released in 2021 — 39 years since their debut “Milo Goes To College.” In between, they’ve put out a lot of songs, most short and fast, and influenced hundreds of bands, many of whom have slots at this year’s Riot Fest.

On Friday they played more than two dozen songs in an hour-long set, while a good portion of the crowd up front slammed around in a mosh pit and crowd surfed to the high-energy, skater-punk tunes being played.

The last time Descendents played Riot Fest they were on the smaller Radical stage. Presumably the organizers took note that they attract a crowd worthy of one of the largest stages and made the appropriate decision to have them on the fest’s Roots Stage on Friday.

Whether or not they ever headline in the future may depend on whether enough of the younger fans in the audience learn to appreciate them, and if they release another album. They made a strong case for it on Friday.

Lucky Boys Confusion

Lucky Boys Confusion performs on day one of Riot Fest in Douglass Park.

Lucky Boys Confusion performs on day one of Riot Fest in Douglass Park.

Twenty-five years after Lucky Boys Confusion played their first party in the western suburbs where they grew up, the band showed on Friday at Riot Fest that they are seasoned professionals.

Fest organizers slated them at 1:25 p.m. on the first day of the three-day fest, which can be tricky as lines to enter were stretched for blocks. Despite that, they still drew a large crowd for their hour-long set.

Before they began, they could be seen taking pictures with people backstage, probably a hazard of playing near their hometowns of Downers Grove and Naperville, and then walked onstage to chants of L-B-C from an adoring crowd.

The band, making their Riot Fest debut, played a dozen songs in 51 minutes, and seemed to be having as much fun as the crowd, which sang along on many songs.

Lead singer Kaustaubh “Stubhy” Pandav, who has made no secret of his multiple sclerosis, told the crowd that “the last five years have been a real struggle” and told them the band they will be playing their annual benefit MS Sucks: Singing For A Cure in the coming months.

Perseverance seems to be the defining trait of Lucky Boys Confusion. In the quarter century the band has gone through a lot, most notably the death of founding member Joe Sell in 2012, and a four-year run with Elektra Records that resulted in two albums but ended when they were dropped in 2004.

During their set Friday, Pandav addressed the Elektra stint, saying “A while back we were signed to this label that made us a lot of promises; they lied,” before launching into their song “Closer to our Graves.”

Other crowd favorites were “Commitment,” and “Atari” — both off Elektra alums; as well as “Stormchaser,” “Breaking Rules” and “Cigarettes.”

The types of things Lucky Boys Confusion have endured would likely end most bands, but they have persisted. Their last album dropped in 2017, but today’s show had fans hungering for more — perhaps even another album.

My Chemical Romance Reveal Opening Acts for Rescheduled 2022 Reunion Tour Dates

They'll finally get a chance to "carry on" as My Chemical Romance 's pandemic-delayed reunion tour is finally happening stateside. The band just revealed the full rescheduled itinerary for North America after having to continually push back the shows due to COVID-19's impact on the touring industry.

The tour will now officially get underway Aug. 20 in Oklahoma City, with dates running through Oct. 29 which is the final scheduled night of the When We Were Young festival in Las Vegas. The group has also added 14 new shows in 10 cities to the itinerary. See all cities, dates and venues listed below. Tickets for the new dates will go on sale this Friday (March 11) at 12N local time.

In addition, My Chemical Romance have filled the run with a variety of opening acts, including the reunited Midtown, Badflower, Turnstile, Taking Back Sunday, The Bouncing Souls, Thursday, Kimya Dawson, Meg Myers, Devil Master, Dilly Dally, Ghosh, Nothing, Shannon and the Clams, Soul Glo, Surfbort, The Homeless Gospel Choir, The Lemon Twigs, Waterparks and Youth Code all playing select dates.

My Chemical Romance announced their plans to reunite in the fall of 2019, though the seeds of a potential reunion were planted as far back as 2017.  "In 2017, we got in a room together to see what would happen," MCR wrote on Twitter in December of 2019 . "A couple more jam sessions and 39 days of rehearsals later, we’re ready to show you what we’ve learned. See you soon."

The band played their first reunion show at the Shrine Expo Concert Hall in Los Angeles on Dec. 20, 2019, reportedly grossing nearly $1.5 million for the band. The group then started announcing more and more tour dates for 2020, but the pandemic wiped out those plans.

The group will play in the U.K. and Europe this May and June, before focusing on the U.S. this fall. See all of their scheduled dates and get ticketing info here .

Riot Fest 2022 day one review (My Chemical Romance, Alkaline Trio, Rocket From the Crypt, and more)

Posted on September 17, 2022 by Gabriel Sigler in Live Reviews , Music // 0 Comments

Chicago’s Riot Fest kicked off its 2022 edition on Friday, September 16 at Douglass Park with a stacked lineup of acts including headliners My Chemical Romance, Chicago hometown heroes Alkaline Trio, Taking Back Sunday, Rocket From the Crypt, and more.

This year’s edition saw tens of thousands of fans converge onto the sprawling site that featured four stages running simultaneously for ten hours a day, along with carnival rides, a scary variety of deep-fried chocolate bars, and much more.

Riot Fest has essentially taken the mantle from the now-defunct Warped Tour and super-sized it, with a punk-heavy focus that also branches out into hip-hop, alternative rock, and anything else the diverse crowd of primarily 30-50-year-olds might be currently listening to.

Read on for our highlights of the first day of the festival. Riot Fest runs from September 16-18, 2022. Tickets and the full schedule can be found at the official festival site .

Rocket From The Crypt

Rocket From the Crypt doesn’t play outside of California very often these days, so any chance to see one of the world’s best R&R bands is always going to be worth the trek. The band performed 2001’s Group Sounds in its entirety during their late afternoon set, which included many tracks most fans have likely never heard live before. With the sun beating directly down on the stage, a smiley Speedo led the band through blistering tracks like “Straight American Slave” and “Heart of a Rat,” delivering a perfect hour of rock n’ roll that set the tone for the entire festival weekend.

Descendents

We may not have the Ramones around any longer (more on that below), but thank god for the Descendents. The California pop punk heroes ran through a whopping 28-song setlist in their hour-long slot, filled with crowd singalongs like “Hope” and “Bikeage,” along with songs from their new/very old 9th & Walnut release. As exciting as the band is live, the true hero of their set was the ASL interpreter side-stage who enthusiastically relayed the lyrics of even the goofiest Descendents songs (“Van” was a particular highlight).

  • Taking Back Sunday

For fans of early-00s emo, the rest of the night was a dream lineup, with back-to-back sets from Taking Back Sunday, Alkaline Trio, and the recently-reunited My Chemical Romance. Taking Back Sunday has eased into their status as elder-statesmen of the Long Island scene they emerged from over 2 decades ago, and have evolved into a powerhouse live act. Friday’s set was full of hits and some welcome comedic banter from singer Adam Lazzara, though the highlight has to have been a couple getting engaged in the crowd during the band’s set. You love to see it.

Alkaline Trio

Alkaline Trio has been singing about their love of their Chicago hometown for decades now, a love affair that is more than reciprocated by their local fans. With Blink-182 seemingly on the back burner, singer Matt Skiba is back with Alkaline Trio and the band hasn’t lost a step in the intervening years as they delivered a driving set full of moody punk rock that included massive singalongs like “Bleeder” and the cathartic set-closer “Radio.” There’s nothing quite like seeing Alkaline Trio in their hometown, and the set only emphasized the special bond the long-running band has with their rabid fans.

  • My Chemical Romance

Speaking of rabid fans…recently reunited New Jersey emo favourites My Chemical Romance are in the midst of a huge arena tour, and brought a massive crowd to their Friday headlining set. Decked out in a glamorous dress and heels with a headscarf and Jackie O-style sunglasses, Gerard Way and the band (guitarist Frank Iero’s new band L.S. Dunes also played earlier in the day) kicked off their set with their new 6-minute single “The Foundations of Decay.” With tens of thousands of fans filling the festival grounds, Way repeatedly implored everyone to take two steps back between songs to create space for the fans up front, many of whom had been camped out in front of the stage all day in the sweltering heat.

Kudos to Way for keeping a close eye on the well-being of the gigantic crowd, who repaid the band in favor by screaming along to hits like “Welcome to the Black Parade” so loudly that they could easily be heard two full blocks away.

Marky Ramone’s Blitzkrieg

While this band is essentially Marky Ramone drumming for a pretty good Ramones cover act, there’s still something thrilling about watching the iconic Ramones drummer blow through these classic punk tracks in his inimitable style. This is the kind of band you want to see at the end of a long festival day, where every song is ingrained in your subconscious and if you stand back and squint hard enough, it almost feels like the real thing. Sadly, Marky’s tomato sauce was nowhere to be found at the merch stand.

My Chemical Romance has added a fifth night to its string of shows at the Forum in Inglewood in October. The emo rock band, which announced its reunion in late 2019 after a six-year hiatus, had scheduled a massive North American outing just before the COVID-19 pandemic put a pause on its touring plans.

After several rescheduled dates, the tour is now set to kick off Aug. 20 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and comes to the Forum Oct. 11-12, 14-15 and the just-added date of Oct. 17. Tickets for the new show will go on sale at noon Friday, March 11, at Ticketmaster.com .

There are also new opening acts each night. My Chemical Romance will bring out Youth Code on Oct. 11; Shannon and the Clams and Dilly Dally Oct. 12; Meg Myers and Nothing Oct. 14; Thursday and Hopeless Gospel Choir Oct. 15; and a recently reunited Midtown will open with support from Waterparks on Oct. 17.

The New Jersey-based band played its first live show in seven years in front of a capacity crowd at The Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles on Dec. 20, 2019. The hit-filled set featured the rejuvenated band in top form and included songs such as “I’m Not Okay (I Promise),” “Thank You for the Venom,” “Teenagers,” “Helena” and “Welcome to the Black Parade.”

My Chemical Romance also tops the line-up at the fully-stacked and sold out When We Were Young Festival alongside acts like Paramore, AFI, The Used, Dashboard Confessional, Alkaline Trio and 60 other bands, happening in Las Vegas, Nevada, Oct. 22-23 and 29.

History [ ]

Founding and first album (2001—2002) [ ].

Gerard Way and Matt Pelissier formed My Chemical Romance, which was then an untitled project, when Gerard saw the 9/11 attacks from his office in New York City. He wrote My Chemical Romance's first song, " Skylines and Turnstiles ", about his feelings in the aftermath of the attacks. A short time after, the band recruited their current lead guitarist Ray Toro because Gerard couldn't play guitar and sing at the same time.

I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love cover

My Chemical Romance's first album, I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love .

The name for the band was suggested by Gerard's younger brother, Mikey Way; he was working in Barnes and Noble at the time and was inspired by the title of a book, "Ecstasy: Three Tales of Chemical Romance". With their new name, the band set out recording a demo CD, with Gerard as lead vocalist, Ray on guitar, and Matt on drums. The Attic Demos, as the band now refers to them, were recorded in Matt's attic and comprised of the songs "Our Lady of Sorrows" (formerly titled "Bring More Knives"), "Cubicles" and "Skylines and Turnstiles". Upon hearing the demo, Mikey Way decided to join the band after dropping out of college.

While at Eyeball Records, the band met Frank Iero, lead guitarist, and vocalist for Pencey Prep. When Pencey Prep split up, Frank joined My Chemical Romance as the rhythm guitarist just a few days before the recording of the band's first studio album, I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love . Despite this, Frank played in two of the eleven songs on the album, " Early Sunsets Over Monroeville " and " Demolition Lovers ".

The band's fanbase was gained from shows played at the Big Daddy's venue and free songs downloadable from their  MySpace  and  PureVolume  pages.

Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge and The Murder Scene (2003—2006) [ ]

In 2003, the band signed a record deal with Reprise Records, and following a tour with Avenged Sevenfold, they began work on their second album. The album was released in 2004, entitled Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, and the band released four singles from the album, "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)", "Thank You for the Venom", "Helena" and "The Ghost Of You". In 2004, the band replaced co-founder and drummer, Matt Pelissier, with Bob Bryar following a tour of Japan.

At the start of 2005, the band featured in the first-ever Taste of Chaos Tour, and also performed as an opening act to Green Day on their American Idiot tour. They then co-headlined the 2005 Warped Tour alongside Fall Out Boy and co-headlined another tour around the US with Alkaline Trio and Reggie and the Full Effect. That same year, My Chemical Romance collaborated with fellow alternative rock band The Used on a cover of "Under Pressure", a Queen and David Bowie classic.

In 2006, the band released their first live album, Life on the Murder Scene, incorporating a live CD and two live DVDs, one of a live show, music videos and their making and the other a documentary of the band's story up until that point. An unauthorised DVD biography Things That Make You Go MMM! was released in June 2006 that contained no content by My Chemical Romance, but rather included interviews with people that knew them before much of their fame. Another biography was released in 2006, written by Paul Stenning and entitled Something Wicked This Way Comes. The biography talks of them from their beginning right through to their third album.

The Black Parade Era (2006—2008) [ ]

In 2006, the band began recording their third album, The Black Parade, with producer Rob Cavallo, noted for working with similar musical acts such as Green Day and Paramore. It was originally thought that the album would be titled "The Rise and Fall of My Chemical Romance", but in an interview with Kerrang! Magazine , Gerard revealed "It was never the title of the album, more a spoof, or joke."

The first two music videos were completed on August 3rd; " Welcome to the Black Parade " and " Famous Last Words " were both directed by Samuel Bayer, noted for working with Nirvana on the "Smells Like Teen Spirit" video and Green Day on the " American Idiot " video. During the shooting of "Famous Last Words", band members Gerard Way and Bob Bryar were injured; Way pulled a ligament in his ankle and Bryar was burnt on the leg, which developed a staph infection requiring medical attention. These injuries, while mistakenly reported as the result of a car crash, caused My Chemical Romance to cancel a few tour dates.

On August 22nd, 2006, My Chemical Romance played a one-off show at the Hammersmith Palais, all of the 1,800 tickets sold out in 15 minutes, and later, tickets could be found on popular commercial websites such as eBay for well over the tickets' face value. After the band announced the album's title, 20 people wearing hooded black cloaks promoting the album paraded around Hammersmith while being followed by fans and members of the band's street team, the MCRmy , holding plaques reading "The Black Parade".

At the show, the UK release date and album name were confirmed. Before the band entered the stage, an announcement came over stating that the band couldn't make it, so another group, The Black Parade, would be playing in their stead. After some audience disapproval, it became obvious that it was just My Chemical Romance adopting an alter-ego, continuing the theme of the album.

"Welcome to the Black Parade", the first single from the album, was released on September 11th, 2006, and the video was released on September 26th and 27th, 2006 in the UK and US respectively. The single became the first number one on the UK charts in October 2006, and The Black Parade was released the same month, on the 23th and 24th in the UK and US respectively.

The Black Parade World Tour commenced on February 22, 2007, incorporating 133 shows featuring Rise Against, Thursday and Muse as supporting acts, while James Dewees, frontman of Reggie and the Full Effect with whom the band had toured with earlier in their career, played keyboard and synth. In April 2007, it was announced that Mikey would be taking a break from touring to spend time with his wife, Alicia Simmons-Way; he was replaced by Matt Cortez, a friend of the band. During the third leg of the tour, My Chemical Romance, Muse and their respective road crews suffered from food poisoning, resulting in them having to cancel six shows. The band later featured on Linkin Park's Projekt Revolution Tour alongside Linkin Park, Placebo, Mindless Self Indulgence, Soasin, Taking Back Sunday and HIM.

The band received mixed accolades for its third album. In Kerrang! magazine, issue 1139, The Black Parade was was rated as the fourth greatest album of 2006, and placed 20th on the Rolling Stone magazine's 50th greatest album of the year too. My Chemical Romance later won the award for Best International Band at the 2007 NME Awards , and Gerard was awarded the Hero of the Year award as well. The band was also nominated for Best Alternative Group at the 2007 American Music Awards .

The band later announced in a blog post on their website that they would be going on a break after a final tour of America and that they were going to release a live CD/DVD album entitled The Black Parade Is Dead! . The album included two concerts from October 2007; more specifically, the final Black Parade show in Mexico City and a smaller show at Maxwell's, New Jersey. The album was intended to be released on June 24 and 30, 2008 in the US and UK respectively, but both dates were postponed until July 1, 2008 due to a technical problem with the Mexico concert.

Danger Days (2009—2012) [ ]

On May 27, 2009, My Chemical Romance's web designer, Jeff Watson, announced via the band's website that the band was headed to the studio to record their fourth full-length album. The recording took place over the following few weeks with producer Brendan O'Brien, who has worked with AC/DC, Mastodon, and Pearl Jam.

In an interview with NME , Gerard Way said the band's next record would be a rock album, saying, "I think (the next album) will definitely be stripped down. I think the band misses being a rock band." In a separate interview with Idiomag , Way commented that the next release would be less theatrical in scope, stating that "it's not going to be hiding behind a veil of fiction or uniforms and makeup anymore." In an interview with PopEater, Way also stated that the next album will be "full of hate." He also said "over the years that we've been hearing ourselves live and hearing us on records, we kind of prefer the live. There's more of a garage feel and more energy. I'd like to capture some of that, finally. That's the goal for the next one."

On July 31 and August 1, 2009, My Chemical Romance played two "secret" shows at The Roxy Theater in Los Angeles. The shows were the first concerts the band had played since Madison Square Garden in May 2008. The band also premiered several new songs said to be from their upcoming fourth album during the shows, one reportedly titled "Death Before Disco", a song that Way said he was particularly excited about. The song was since renamed "Party Poison" and was included on the new album. Way explained further in a Rolling Stone interview that "it's a completely different sound for the band — it's like an anti-party song that you can party to. I can't wait for people to hear it. It brings back, lyrically, some of that wonderful fiction from the first album."

Gerard Way also said in a November 2009 interview with Rock Sound that the fourth album would be their defining work. "A friend who heard the record recently said he now had no interest in listening to our older work anymore, that we had made all our old material redundant. I took it as a compliment, the next thing you should always make the last thing seem unimportant and I think that will happen when we finally release this album." On March 3, 2010, Iero announced on their official website that Bob Bryar had left the band, writing:

"As of 4 weeks ago, My Chemical Romance and Bob Bryar parted ways. This was a painful decision for all of us to make and was not taken lightly. We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors and expect you all to do the same."

The band did not state reasons on why he left.

In a March 2010 MTV interview about the new album, Way explained, "There's no title yet...I'm actually kind of excited about that. It's kind of 'anything goes' at this point, but I'm so happy with the songs." Though the band since decided on the title of their fourth album, it continued to go unannounced, with various rumors circulating and the band stating on their website that it will be revealed "all in due time" and in Way's words, "a special way this time. Maybe some sort of event, something fun, something soon."

During the San Diego Comic-Con 2010, Way announced that the band had finished recording the fourth studio album. This was later confirmed by Iero on the band's website, announcing that the album was "done, finished, kaput, in the proverbial can, and being played loudly as we drive way too fast in our respective cars."

In September, a trailer video was uploaded to My Chemical Romance's official YouTube page entitled Art is a Weapon , which announced the title of the album: Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys . The video featured the band wearing strangely coloured outfits and battling unusual characters in a desert surrounding, and featuring a sample of music from the song "Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na)". Notable comic book author and the band's personal friend, Grant Morrison, makes a special appearance, in the role of an enemy and leader of a band of masked characters. On September 22, 2010, the band premiered their song "Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na)" on Zane Lowe's BBC Radio 1 show, and Los Angeles-based radio station KROQ-FM. The album was released on November 22, 2010.

Rock Sound had a preview of the album and gave a positive review, commenting "the way they’ve used everything they learned on ‘ The Black Parade ’ and tightened up in certain places feels natural and confident" and that it sees "the creativity of the band taking flight musically, graphically and literally."

Michael Pedicone joined the band as a touring drummer late in 2010, replacing Bryar. During a performance at Wembley Arena on February 12, 2011, Way announced that the band will be appearing at a UK festival later in the year, later confirmed as the Reading and Leeds Festivals, which they headlined. They also performed at Radio 1's Big Weekend in Carlisle, Cumbria|Carlisle, England on May 15, 2011.

On September 2, 2011, Frank Iero posted a blog on the band's site stating, "The relationship between My Chemical Romance and Michael Pedicone is over" and explaining Pedicone was sacked because "he was caught red handed stealing from the band and confessed to police after our show last night in Auburn, Washington." He also mentioned his hope of getting a new drummer in time for their next show and avoiding having to cancel any performances in the process.

On September 4, 2011, it was revealed through various sources that Jarrod Alexander would be the new touring drummer for the remainder of the Honda Civic tour. He also performed with them in late October at Voodoo Experience and at their Australian + New Zealand shows at Big Day Out in early 2012.

Fifth studio album [ ]

In an interview with Rolling Stone in October 2011, guitarist Frank Iero revealed that new music could be out "by summer". In February 2012, the band revealed that they have been building a studio in Los Angeles to record music for their fifth album. They would be working with engineer Doug McKean, who previously worked with them on The Black Parade and Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys .

Break Up [ ]

On March 22, 2013 My Chemical Romance announced their breakup on their website after 12 years being together with 4 studio albums and one that was in the making, known as of 2012 by MCR5.

My Chemical Romance posted the following statement on their official website: "Being in this band for the past 12 years has been a true blessing. We've gotten to go places we never knew we would. We've been able to see and experience things we never imagined possible. We've shared the stage with people we admire, people we look up to, and best of all, our friends. And now, like all great things, it has come time for it to end. Thanks for all of your support, and for being part of the adventure."

Gerard also posted a letter on his Twitter account via  Twitlonger  called  A Vigil, on Birds and Glass .

On March 25, 2014, the band released a greatest hits collection, entitled  May Death Never Stop You , containing material spreading their entire career, as well a single unreleased track. [2]  The track "Fake Your Death" was made available digitally on February 17.

Post Break Up [ ]

Following the band's break-up, the members of the band continued to pursue music. Lead vocalist Gerard Way announced his debut solo album  Hesitant Alien  with the release of an advance-single, "Action Cat".  Hesitant Alien was released on September 29, 2014 in the UK, and a day later in the U.S.  Hesitant Alien  was a moderate commercial success, topping the US  Billboard  Alternative Albums chart and reaching No. 16 on the US  Billboard 200.  Hesitant Alien  also topped the "Ten Essential Albums Of 2014" list in  Alternative Press .

Rhythm guitarist Frank Iero sporadically collaborated with My Chemical Romance keyboardist James Dewees, forming Death Spells and performing in Reggie and the Full Effect (alongside Ray Toro), releasing  No Country for Old Musicians  on November 19, 2013. Afterwards, he announced via his official website that he signed to Staple Records and would be releasing a full-length solo album entitled  Stomachaches  under the moniker of "frnkiero andthe cellabration". The album featured former My Chemical Romance touring drummer Jarrod Alexander.  Stomachaches was released world-wide on August 25, 2014.

Bassist Mikey Way formed Electric Century along with Sleep Station vocalist David Debiak in 2014 and released their debut single "I Lied" in February 2014. The duo announced their debut self-titled EP on March 10, 2015 and was released on Record Store Day on April 18, 2015.

Lead guitarist Ray Toro posted a song on his SoundCloud account entitled "Isn't That Something" on May 24, 2013. On January 1, 2015 he posted a new song, titled "For the Lost and Brave", on his website, dedicating the song to Leelah Alcorn, a transgender teen who committed suicide.

Reunion Scare [ ]

On October 15th, 2013, My Chemical Romance's official twitter page was re-verified. This led fans to believe something may be happening and that the band may be reuniting to release MCR5.

Along with the reverification, the band's twitter bio was also changed. It read "Sometimes, in order to grow, you must tear down everything that came before". This information has since been changed.

It was later revealed that this change was the result of hackers, who have been since banned from Twitter.

On July 20, 2016, My Chemical Romance posted a video on their official YouTube account entitled " MCRX ." The video, which is only 34 seconds long, depicts a flag with a cross-shaped symbol waving in the wind, and the piano introduction to "Welcome to the Black Parade" plays twice. A date, "9.23.16," is displayed at the end of the video. It was noted that, since The Black Parade was released on October 23, 2006, its ten-year anniversary will take place in 2016 (and X is the Roman numeral for ten). As to why the date depicted in "MCRX" is September 23 as opposed to October 23, no popular theory has been proposed; however, the music and date included in the video led many fans to believe that My Chemical Romance will have a reunion tour.

Leading up to the video's upload, it was noticed that My Chemical Romance's tweet concerning their breakup had been deleted. The "Tour" page of their website had also read, "Check back soon for more details on the upcoming tour." Additionally, new merchandise , printed with the cross symbol from "MCRX," was released on their online store and in Hot Topic.

However, the day after the video was released - and fans had thoroughly voiced their eagerness for the band's reunion - My Chemical Romance revealed through their official Facebook page that no reunion event of any kind was to take place - that instead, there would be a special release in honor of Black Parade's tenth anniversary:

"We've been really touched and blown away by the response to the teaser trailer. We are not touring and there is no reunion planned - only a release for the anniversary of The Black Parade. Thanks so much for continuing to keep MCR in your minds and in your hearts."

Many fans expressed disappointment at the fact that the band's "Tour" page still hinted at a new tour; however, it is likely that this was simply left on the page before the band's breakup, as a default message in between tours.

Reunion and Future (2019 - present) [ ]

On October 31, 2019, the band announced they would be reuniting with a date in Los Angeles on December 20 and a new merchandise line. The announcement was accompanied by the captions "Return" and "Like Phantoms Forever...". They have also uploaded photos on their website.

The December 20th, 2019 reunion show sold out in 4 minutes despite high ticket prices. Believed initially to be a one-off show, almost a week later, the band announced more dates in Australia, Japan and New Zealand for 2020. They later revealed via Twitter that they had first regrouped in 2017 and had been working together since then, before the official 2019 announcement. The concert grossed $1,451,745, with an attendance of 5,113.

In January 2020, the group announced plans to present one, then two, then three concerts at Stadium MK (Milton Keynes, England), on 18, 20 and 21 of June 2020 as tickets for each day sold out within minutes. The stadium has an (all round) capacity of 30,500 for sports events. Later in the month, the group premiered a cryptic video on YouTube which ended by announcing a North American tour.

These were later postponed to 2021 and again to 2022. The band has also announced European and Australian shows.

New Music [ ]

On May 12th, 2022, the band unexpectedly dropped a brand new single entitled “ The Foundations of Decay ”, which marked the first song the group has released in 8 years since Fake Your Death in 2014.
