Press Release

Travel + Leisure Co. to Relocate Headquarters to Downtown Orlando

May 13.2024

The strategic move to the heart of downtown Orlando will add over 100 new, high-wage jobs,   bringing over 1,000 employees to the downtown core

06 18 PDM 501WChurch 4 2

ORLANDO, Fla. (May 13, 2024) – Travel + Leisure Co. , the world’s leading membership and leisure travel company, is set to relocate its headquarters to Downtown Orlando. The company, currently situated at 6277 Sea Harbor Drive, Orlando, with over 900 employees, will consolidate offices to its new address at 501 W Church St, Orlando, FL 32801, a property owned by Piedmont Office Realty Trust, Inc.

Travel + Leisure Co., recognized by Fortune magazine as one of the World’s Most Admired Companies, is one of the largest publicly traded companies in Orlando. Bringing Travel + Leisure to the vibrant heart of downtown Orlando is a strategic move that solidifies Orlando’s position as a hub for innovative industries. The relocation involves a capital investment exceeding $29 million, accompanied by salaries set at 200 percent of the average annual private sector wage in Orange County. This move is anticipated to generate the creation of 102 new high-value, high-wage jobs over a five-year period as part of the expansion.

Our move to Downtown Orlando will help us attract and retain outstanding talent in a competitive marketplace, while providing a modern office environment in the heart of our growing city. Kimberly Marshall, Chief Human Resources Officer, Travel + Leisure Co.

“We greatly appreciate the support of Mayor Dyer, the Orlando City Council, and the local and state economic development teams who are making this move possible,” said Marshall.

This significant move comes after collaborative efforts with the City of Orlando , the Orlando Economic Partnership , FloridaCommerce , the Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC —The Reliable One) , Global Commercial Real Estate Services (CBRE) , Piedmont Office Realty Trust , Stream Realty Partners and Newmark Group Inc. , showcasing the city’s commitment to attracting major companies to its downtown core.

Travel + Leisure, formerly known as Wyndham Destinations, proudly announced the establishment of its global headquarters in Orange County in 2018. The decision to expand in Downtown Orlando emphasizes the city’s appeal for one of the world’s largest hospitality brands. The City of Orlando and its partners have worked to transform the downtown core into a future city, fostering innovation and progress. Working towards growing downtown as a headquarters hub for businesses further ensures the safety and vitality of the downtown core for visitors and employees alike, both day and night.

“This move is more than just a relocation; it’s a move that showcases the power of urban centers to drive economic growth and progress,” said Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer.

We look forward to welcoming Travel + Leisure to downtown Orlando and are excited about how they will add to the vibrant energy of the area, grow jobs and opportunity for our residents and contribute to the continued success of our urban core. Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer

Strategic partnerships with business development services, and City of Orlando and Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) programs, played a crucial role in facilitating this move. There is no better place than Orlando for one of the world’s largest hospitality brands.

We are delighted that Travel + Leisure has chosen to continue calling Orlando its home and relocate to the vibrant downtown core. Tim Giuliani, President and CEO, Orlando Economic Partnership

“Having prominent headquarters in our region serves as an economic catalyst, attracting a pool of skilled professionals and fostering a vibrant job market. Additionally, it stimulates local businesses, creates a robust ecosystem of innovation, and contributes significantly to the overall economic prosperity of our region,” said Giuliani.

The lease at Travel + Leisure’s current office building on Sea Harbor Drive is set to expire in 2025, which prompted the exploration of new options, including a downtown Orlando office building. The OEP played a pivotal role in supporting Travel + Leisure by providing crucial market data and research, facilitating strategic introductions to key stakeholders at both local and state levels and working with all partners involved. The relocation is expected to infuse the downtown core with the presence of a major public company, along with hundreds of employees.

The thriving business landscape in Orlando is witnessing exponential growth, with regional offices and company headquarters making significant contributions to both local operations and the global expansion of major industries. As Travel + Leisure establishes its presence in Downtown Orlando, it opens the door to fostering a collaborative business environment and contributing to the vibrant economic landscape of the region.

Among the top headquarters based in the Orlando region are AAA, Darden Restaurants, Universal Orlando and others. Additionally, the region hosts regional operations for prominent entities such as KPMG, Siemens, Lockheed Martin, and Deloitte. This dynamic growth underscores Orlando’s pivotal role in shaping the trajectory of diverse industries on both regional and global scales.

We are honored that a world class company such as Travel + Leisure Co. has chosen 501 W. Church for its headquarters location and we very much appreciate the collaboration and support from Mayor Dyer’s administration to help close the largest lease in downtown Orlando since 2019. Alex Valente, Executive Vice President, Piedmont’s Southeast region

Continuing, Valente added, “The lease for the entirety of the West Church Street location will allow Travel + Leisure to grow their business in a high-quality office building in the heart of an exciting and dynamic neighborhood.”

8 Questions With… Courtney Denman, Area Director of Corporate and Leisure Travel, Viceroy Hotels of Washington DC

Washington, DC is one of our favorite cities in the world. Historical sites, amazing museums, an incredible food scene, fantastic hotels…DC really does have it all!  It’s a popular pick for meeting and event planners because of these reasons. A favorite hotel in our nation’s capital that we often book for group travel is the Viceroy Washington DC. It’s in a great neighborhood, on a quiet residential block, but at the end of the block are many great restaurants and shops. And just a few blocks away is the equally cool Hotel Zena that’s also great for meeting and group travel . Our dear friend and partner, Suzanne Goldberg from The Art of Hospitality introduced us to this month’s 8 questions subject, who is our trusted partner at both hotels. Let us introduce you…

leisure travel head office

CIRE: Hi Courtney! Our team knows (and loves) you from all your help on our DC groups and business/vacation travelers, but won’t you please say hello to our loyal readers?

COURTNEY: Hi! My name is Courtney, and I work for the Viceroy Hotels of Washington DC (Viceroy DC & Hotel Zena) as the Area Director of Corporate and Leisure Travel. I have worked with CIRE in several capacities in both leisure and corporate, but most recently with their clients in the film production industry.

CIRE: It’s true! We have several clients who are in the advertising industry and also production companies. It’s always fun to support travel for their creative teams and talent for various photo and film shoots in the entertainment business.  How did you get into the hospitality industry?

COURTNEY: I sort of “fell into” hotels. I graduated college with a job offer from a major sports team in DC, but the company went through a hiring freeze and delayed my start date. After several months of waiting, a friend of my mom’s said I should think about working in hotels! At that time, I had no concept of what “working for a hotel” was outside of checking people in and housekeeping. But after nearly draining my bank account waiting for the other job to open up, I decided to apply for a front desk job at a Marriott in DC. I got the job, and on my very first day of training, the sports team called me, saying they were ready for me to start. I had already committed to the hotel, so I decided to pass and continue my time with Marriott. I haven’t looked back since, and it was the best decision I could have made!

leisure travel head office

CIRE: We agree! We’re so happy you’re with Team Viceroy in DC! What’s unique about working for Viceroy Hotels?

COURTNEY: I think what sets Viceroy apart is that we are a small company that truly helps all the hotels within its brand. I speak with most of my counterparts in other cities on at least a weekly basis. I have spent enough time with them that I could likely roll out their hotel spiel along with my own. We all help one another with things we may need in our separate markets. I can use them as a sounding board for ideas I may have that I need help nailing down, and can ask them for help with things I may not know. It is really great having not only your own central team within the walls of your hotel but also a broader sense of support within the brand itself!

leisure travel head office

CIRE: A strong and supportive team is a great thing and makes coming to work fun.  What do you love most about your role?

COURTNEY: I LOVE the partnerships piece of my job. When people outside of our industry ask me what I do for a living, I often say that I get paid to make friends! I have worked for several different hotels and different brands in different neighborhoods in the city, but I have been blessed to take many of my clients with me throughout all of those changes. My favorite part of my job is making my clients look good to their clients. If I can make you look like a rockstar, then I consider that a job well done.

CIRE: Thank you for taking great care of our entertainment industry and vacation clients and for making us look good!  You’ve worked all around DC, but where are you from originally?

COURTNEY: The DC area is actually my home! I spent most of my childhood in the southern Maryland suburbs of the city, with a few years outside of this area (being an Air Force brat) in Japan, Virginia, and Nebraska. One thing I don’t think people know about Washington, DC is that it is much more than just monuments and museums. DC has a rich history in jazz, with several pivotal jazz musicians being DC natives (Billie Eckstein, Duke Ellington, Billy Taylor).

My favorite restaurant in DC right now is a new STARR Group restaurant called El Presidente. I am certain my colleagues and loved ones are tired of hearing me talk about it! It is Mexico City inspired cuisine, which I had not realized was different from any other Mexican cuisine. I love Mexican food, so I naturally went to check it out when it opened, and I have been probably a dozen times since. It makes me even more excited to visit Mexico City, which is a location that has been on my radar for a while.

leisure travel head office

CIRE: When you’re not hitting the best jazz clubs in DC or eating delicious Mexican food, where have you been traveling recently?

COURTNEY: My most recent vacation was to El Salvador. We chose this destination because 1) I love a beach, and 2) Because we enjoy going to places that have not yet hit their “tourism peak.” I love modern things and elevated experiences, but sometimes, I enjoy going places off the beaten path. We had an amazing time while there because we got a little bit of everything. We spent half of our trip in the La Libertad/Surf City area. While there, we did lots of R&R at our beachfront resort. El Salvador has amazing black sand beaches, and I also learned it is one of the top surfing destinations in the world. We were able to drive to the mountains and ride ATVs up and through the Ataco village. We did some coffee tastings, which, if you are a coffee lover, El Salvador was probably one of the top two coffees I have ever had, with Vietnam being number one. We climbed the Santa Ana Volcano, which, as someone who enjoys hiking, was one of the toughest I have ever done and most rewarding. We spent the second half of the trip in the capital city of San Salvador. While there, we spent a lot of time exploring and visiting the historic landmarks, and they have a TON of shopping. I think our hotel was within two blocks of three or four malls. We were there for eight days and still didn’t get a chance to do all the things we wanted to do. The people were friendly, and every single place we went, the food was fantastic! I can’t wait to go back.

leisure travel head office

CIRE: Wow!  Sounds like an amazing trip!  (Adding El Salvador to our list…)  What’s your all-time favorite vacation destination?

COURTNEY: This is so hard because I love so many places for different reasons. I would say my favorite place I have traveled to so far was Cuba . Sadly, I only spent a short time there because I went on a cruise, but the two days I did get to experience it were amazing. There are few places in this world that are truly stuck in time. I loved seeing all the old cars and the architecture that, by law, could never be changed from its original design.

leisure travel head office

CIRE: We 100% agree.  Cuba is amazing!  In all your world travels, any learnings or advice you can share?

COURTNEY: I think my biggest tip is making sure you have a vacation day at home after vacation. Nothing is worse than spending ten days in paradise just to go straight back to work the next day when you get home. You need that day to mentally prepare to enter back into reality!

CIRE: THIS!  It is so worth having that bonus day when you get home.  If only to catch up on sleep and do some laundry.  Thanks for the advice, and thanks for chatting with us, Courtney!  See you next time we’re in DC!

Migrant taken to the hospital for pneumonia, dies from a head injury incurred at the hospital after being released from CBP custody

On March 16, 2024, at approximately 5:23 a.m., a Texas Department of Public Safety (TXDPS) Trooper encountered and arrested an undocumented female migrant, a citizen of Honduras, near the Travis D. Kelly Hydroelectric Water Plant, located approximately 8.75 miles northwest of Eagle Pass, Texas. At approximately 6:38 a.m., TXDPS Troopers transported the woman to the State of Texas’ Val Verde Processing Center (VVPC) in Del Rio, Texas. At approximately 7:50 a.m., the woman advised VVPC intake staff that she had attempted suicide three months prior by stopping her medication. During processing, intake staff requested emergency medical services (EMS) because the woman was having trouble breathing. An on-site emergency medical technician (EMT) screened the woman, then cleared her and placed her on direct observation at 8:15 a.m. At approximately 4:02 p.m., the woman appeared before a Maverick County magistrate and was subsequently charged with criminal trespassing. The Maverick County magistrate determined there was reasonable cause to believe that the woman had a mental illness or was a person with an intellectual disability and ordered a service provider with VVPC to provide mental health or intellectual and developmental disability services to her. On March 17, 2024, at approximately 6 a.m., the woman was transferred to the Lopez State Jail in Edinburg, Texas, pending criminal state charges. On March 26, 2024, at approximately 5 p.m., the woman was released from the Lopez State Jail and transferred to the Jim Hogg Temporary Processing Center (JHPC), in Hebbronville, Texas which is also operated by the State of Texas. At approximately 6:54 p.m., JHPC advised U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) Hebbronville Station personnel that the state charges were dismissed; therefore, she was being released and would be turned over to Border Patrol. JHPC reportedly advised Border Patrol personnel that the woman had a pre-existing heart condition but was not currently experiencing any issues. At approximately 7:35 p.m., Border Patrol agents arrived at JHPC and determined the woman was an undocumented noncitizen. Agents took custody of the woman and transported her to the Hebbronville Station, where they arrived approximately four minutes later. At approximately 8:15 p.m., during intake procedures, CBP contract medical staff conducted a medical assessment of the woman. During the assessment, the medical staff determined that she needed advanced medical care because of low oxygen, persistent cough, possible pneumonia, and congestive heart failure. At approximately 8:23 p.m., a Supervisory Border Patrol agent requested EMS via telephone. At approximately 8:29 p.m., Skyline EMS arrived at the Hebbronville Station and prepared the woman for transportation. At approximately 8:45 p.m., Skyline EMS transported the woman to Laredo Medical Center while Border Patrol personnel followed in a marked vehicle. At approximately 9:42 p.m., the woman arrived at the hospital and Border Patrol personnel established hospital watch. On March 27, 2024, at approximately 9:10 a.m., while under treatment, the woman was diagnosed with pneumonia and at approximately 10:50 a.m., was admitted to the hospital and assigned a room. On March 28, 2024, at approximately 4:32 p.m., agents served the woman with a Notice to Appear/Order of Release and released her from CBP custody. The woman remained at the hospital pending additional treatment. On April 4, 2024, the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office (BCMEO) notified Border Patrol personnel assigned to the Hebbronville Station that, while being treated at the Brooks Army Medical Center (BAMC), the woman had died on April 3, 2024, at 3:07 p.m. Hebbronville Station personnel notified Special Agents from CBP’s Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR), who responded to the incident. After reviewing the medical documentation from LMC and BAMC, OPR special agents discovered that on March 30, 2024, at approximately 11:00 p.m., the woman had reportedly fallen while at LMC, which resulted in a subdural hematoma (SDH). After the fall, LMC medical staff monitored her, and on the morning of April 1, 2024, the woman had a change in mental status and required intubation. She was subsequently transferred to BAMC in San Antonio, Texas, for advanced medical care. Two days later the woman died. On April 10, 2024, at approximately 5:20 p.m., a BCMEO Investigator notified agents from the OPR Laredo Field Office that an autopsy was performed on April 6, 2024. The manner and cause of death is pending. BCMEO will give the results of the autopsy when they are complete. The BCMEO is investigating this incident and CBP OPR is reviewing it. The Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General has been notified.

CBP OPR identified information and timeline based on its preliminary review of radio traffic, medical documentation from CBP and local medical facilities, and statements of involved personnel from CBP, TXDPS, and BCMEO. This notification is being issued to the public pursuant to the CBP policy regarding Notification and Review Procedures for Certain Deaths and Deaths in Custody and the Department of Homeland Security FY 2021 Appropriation (H. Rept. 116-458) reporting requirements related to CBP-involved deaths.

Minister of Foreign Affairs urges Canadians to leave Lebanon while they can

From: Global Affairs Canada

News release

Today, the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, issued the following statement urging Canadians to leave Lebanon while they can:

June 25, 2024 – Ottawa, Ontario - Global Affairs Canada

“The safety and security of Canadians at home and abroad is Canada’s top priority.”

“The security situation in Lebanon is becoming increasingly volatile and unpredictable due to sustained and escalating violence between Hezbollah and Israel and could deteriorate further without warning.

“My message to Canadians has been clear since the beginning of the crisis in the Middle East: it is not the time to travel to Lebanon. And for Canadians currently in Lebanon, it is time to leave, while commercial flights remain available.

“If the armed conflict intensifies it could impact your ability to leave the country and our ability to provide you with consular services. Canada is not currently offering assisted departures or evacuations for Canadians in Lebanon, and these are not guaranteed.

“Canadians in Lebanon should consult our Travel Advice and Advisories for Lebanon regularly and sign up with the Registration of Canadians Abroad service to receive important information from the Government of Canada. Those already registered should update their information and ensure it is accurate.

“Canadians should make sure their travel documents and those of their spouse and dependent children are always up to date and secure.

“Canadians who need emergency consular assistance should contact the Embassy of Canada to Lebanon at 961 4 726 700 or Global Affairs Canada’s Emergency Watch and Response Centre in Ottawa:

  • telephone: +1 613-996-8885 (collect calls are accepted where available)

Princess Anne in Hospital With Minor Head Wounds Following Incident

Emergency services were dispatched after Anne was injured while out walking on her Gatcombe Park estate.

The Princess Royal was taken to hospital yesterday with minor head wounds following an incident at her Gatcombe Park estate in Gloucestershire. Buckingham Palace announced her hospitalization in a statement today and said that the King’s sister was expected to make a full and swift recovery.

“The Princess Royal has sustained minor injuries and concussion following an incident on the Gatcombe Park estate yesterday evening,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement today.

“Her Royal Highness remains in Southmead Hospital, Bristol, as a precautionary measure for observation and is expected to make a full and swift recovery. The King has been kept closely informed and joins the whole Royal Family in sending his fondest love and well-wishes to The Princess for a speedy recovery.”

A royal source said that while the exact cause of the injuries was unconfirmed, there were horses in the vicinity and the Princess’s medical team said her injuries were consistent with potential impact from a horse’s head or legs.

After emergency services were called, Anne was accompanied to the hospital by her husband Sir Tim Laurence. She is expected to be able to return home later this week. A royal source said that her siblings and Prince William were informed last night.

When is Amazon Prime Day 2024?

Amazon just announced that Prime Day 2024 will run from Tuesday, July 16 to Wednesday, July 17. Every year, the event falls on or near the retailer's July 12 birthday, but for the 10th annual Prime Day, Amazon has decided to change things up and host it after its milestone 30th birthday. But don't worry, shoppers will have ample time to stock up on everything from travel essentials to homeware thanks to early deals that have dropped before the sale begins.

What is Prime Day?

Beginning in 2015, Prime Day initially started as a 20th anniversary celebration of the brand. The sale runs for two days every year, offering thousands of doorbuster deals to shoppers while spanning every category across the site. With savings on everything from luggage to clothing and even day-to-day essentials, Prime Day is one of the largest shopping holidays of the year, rivaling the likes of Black Friday and other major events.

Last year, the brand even dropped a press release, revealing that the first day of Prime Day 2023 was the “single largest sales day ever on Amazon,” with shoppers saving “more than $2.5 billion on millions of deals” across the site.

How long does Prime Day last?

While Prime Day is technically scheduled to run for two full days, shoppers often have access to early and extended deals that make it easier than ever to grab everything from your wishlist in time to pack for your summer travels. This year, the event will commence at midnight PST on Tuesday, July 16, and run through midnight PST on Wednesday, July 17. It’s worth noting that while some deals will maintain a discount throughout the entirety of the sale, other markdowns will only be available for a limited time, so you won’t want to stall once you find something you love.

Do you need a Prime Membership to shop the deals?

Although Prime Day undoubtedly caters to Prime members , that doesn’t mean that non-members can’t also reap the benefits of the major sale event. In fact, many of the deals featured on the site during that two-day window will also be available to the average shopper, although becoming a Prime member comes with its own set of benefits, extra savings, and exclusive discounts surrounding the sale.

If you’re interested in becoming a member but aren’t sure where to start, all you have to do is sign up for a 30-day free trial that will grant you access to even deeper discounts. Once the trial has run out, it’s just $14.99/month. And don’t stress, once you’ve signed up, you can still cancel it at any time. But with additional access to Amazon Prime Video, Whole Foods discounts, and free two-day shipping, Prime member perks are definitely ones you won't want to pass up.

What’s on sale during Prime Day?

The beauty of Prime Day is that every category across the Amazon site is subject to steep discounts, from travel accessories and luggage to must-have sandals, sneakers, and hiking boots. While the degree of the sale varies from product to product, shoppers can score anything from a four-pack of Apple AirTags to the reliable Samsonite Omni PC Hardside Expandable Carry-on for some of the lowest prices we’ve seen all year.
