KSRTC adds boat cruise to Jungle Safari package

KOCHI: If you are a wildlife enthusiast raring to explore the wilderness in all its remoteness, KSRTC Kothamangalam offers you the right package. A day-long journey through the forest enjoying the cool weather and mystic natural beauty will provide you a rare opportunity to spot majestic elephants, Indian gaur, sambar deer, Malabar squirrel and exotic birds. The Jungle Safari which was launched three months ago was an instant hit but the Covid third wave came as a setback. With the threat of Covid third wave waning KSRTC has re-launched the Jungle Safari adding a cruise through the Bhoothathankettu dam.

The package tour, which is offered at Rs 700 per head, starts from Kothamangalam KSRTC depot and includes a visit to Thattekad bird sanctuary. From Bhoothathankettu, a river cruise has been arranged up to Kuttampuzha. From Kuttampuzha the tour passes through the pristine forest of Mamalakandam to reach Mangulam in Idukki. The KSRTC has now included Anakulam, the favourite watering hole of wild elephants.

From Anakulam the trip heads to Munnar through Lakshmi estate and will return to Kothamangalam through Aluva - Munnar road. The circuit tour starts at 8 am and will end at 10 pm. The package includes a sumptuous lunch at a resort and tea with snacks in the evening.

“The circuit tour was launched on November 25, 2021 and the response was tremendous. Due to public demand we had conducted seven trips a day. But we had to stop the service due to Covid spread recently. Now we have re-launched the package tour and there were three services on Saturday,” said KSRTC Kothamangalam station master and tour coordinator N R Rajeev.On Saturday, Kothamangalam MLA Antony John inaugurated the boat cruise at Bhoothathankettu and Pindimana grama panchayat president Jessy Saju presided over the function.

Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary

Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary in Wayanad attracts thousands of tourists round the year with its lush green forest that promises endearing views and experiences hard to forget for years. The second largest wildlife sanctuary in Kerala, Muthanga consists of tropical moist dry deciduous, evergreen forests, bamboo thickets and plantations, and is home to many varieties of birds and animals. The Sanctuary has a large population of pachyderms and has been declared a Project Elephant site. Elephants roam freely here and tigers are sighted occasionally as well. Various species of deer, monkeys and birds also live here. A drive along the road to Muthanga and further offers chances to watch these roaming animals. Best season to visit: December to May

JUNGLE SAFARIS

The Jeep Safari

The highlighted ecotourism programme of  Wayanad is the two-hour jeep safari conducted by the forest department in the tourist zone of the jungle. With the help of an expert guide and a driver, you can take on the wild. You would not know how time flies as the jeep bumps along the forest trail, revealing stunning spectacles every now and then.  Herds of elephants and gaurs are a usual sight in the trail, while the sight of big cats comes as a bonanza. Jeep safaris are conducted in the morning and evening when animal activity in the tourism zone is relatively high.  You need to hire jeeps from the entrance for the safari.  Timing:  07.00 AM to 10.00 Am (40 Jeeps are allowed) | 03.00 PM to 05.00 PM (20 Jeeps are allowed)

JUNGLE CAMPS

The inspection bungalow or the Forest Wood House at Muthanga provides accommodation for tourists visiting here. Eco hut known as Serambi, which means verandah in Malayalam, is a two-storeyed building with one large room upstairs and one small room below, each with a spacious verandah. Accommodation is available for maximum of 4 persons.  The forest department also runs a dormitory with 188 beds at Muthanga.

വിനോദസഞ്ചാരികൾക്ക് രാത്രി ജംഗിള്‍ സഫാരി നല്‍കാനുള്ള പദ്ധതിയുടെ അവസാന ഒരുക്കത്തിലാണ് കെഎസ്ആർടിസിയുടെ ബജറ്റ് സെല്‍. വിനോദസഞ്ചാരികൾക്ക് 300 രൂപ നിരക്കിൽ 60 കിലോമീറ്റർ രാത്രി സഫാരി നൽകാനാണ് പദ്ധതി. വയനാട് പോലെ വളരെയധികം സഞ്ചാരികളെത്തുന്ന ഒരു മലയോരജില്ലയില്‍ രാത്രികാല വിനോദസഞ്ചാരത്തിന്‍റെ സാധ്യതകള്‍ കൂടി ഉപയോഗപ്പെടുത്താനാണ് ഇതിലൂടെ ലക്ഷ്യമിടുന്നത്. കാടും വന്യജീവികളും വെള്ളച്ചാട്ടങ്ങളും തടാകങ്ങളും മലനിരകളുമെല്ലാം നിറഞ്ഞ വയനാട്ടില്‍, രാത്രിസമയങ്ങളില്‍ വേണ്ടത്ര സൗകര്യങ്ങളുടെ അഭാവമുള്ളതിനാല്‍ വിനോദസഞ്ചാരം അത്ര സുഗമമല്ല.

വയനാട് വന്യജീവി സങ്കേതത്തിലൂടെ കടന്നുപോകുന്ന കോഴിക്കോട്-കൊല്ലേഗൽ ദേശീയ പാത 766 വഴി കേരള-കർണാടക അതിർത്തിയിലെ പൊൻകുഴിയിലേക്ക് രാത്രി 9 മണിയോടെ സുൽത്താൻ ബത്തേരിയിലെ കെഎസ്ആർടിസി ബസ് ഡിപ്പോയിൽ നിന്ന് യാത്ര ആരംഭിക്കും. വന്യജീവി സങ്കേതത്തിന്‍റെ അതിർത്തിയിലുള്ള മൂലങ്കാവ്, കരിപ്പൂർ, വള്ളുവാടി, വടക്കനാട് എന്നീ കുഗ്രാമങ്ങളിലൂടെ വാഹനം സുൽത്താൻ ബത്തേരിയിലേക്ക് കടക്കും. ഇടവേളയ്ക്ക് ശേഷം വന്യജീവി സങ്കേതത്തിലെ കുറിച്യാട്, കുറിചയാട് ഫോറസ്റ്റ് റേഞ്ചുകളിലൂടെ ഇരുളം വരെ യാത്ര തുടരും. 60 കിലോമീറ്റർ സഫാരി രാത്രി 11.30 ഓടെ സുൽത്താൻ ബത്തേരിയിൽ അവസാനിക്കും. നൈറ്റ് സഫാരി അടുത്ത ആഴ്ച പകുതിയോടെ ആരംഭിക്കും, സഫാരിക്കായി ഒരാള്‍ക്ക് 300 രൂപ ചിലവാകും.

യാത്രക്കായി രണ്ട് കസ്റ്റമൈസ്ഡ് ബസുകൾ സജ്ജീകരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. വാഹനങ്ങളുടെ അവസാന മിനുക്കുപണികൾ ഡിപ്പോയിൽ നടന്നുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുകയാണെന്നാണ് കിട്ടുന്ന വിവരം. കൂടാതെ, കെഎസ്ആർടിസി ഡിപ്പോയിൽ വിനോദസഞ്ചാരികൾക്ക് നാമമാത്രമായ ചെലവിൽ താമസിക്കാൻ നാല് എയർകണ്ടീഷൻ ചെയ്ത സ്ലീപ്പർ ബസുകളും ഒരുക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. സ്ത്രീകൾക്കായി മാത്രം റിസർവ് ചെയ്തിട്ടുള്ള ഒരു ബസ് ഉൾപ്പെടെയാണിത്‌. ബസുകളിൽ മുൻകൂർ ബുക്കിംഗ് നടത്തുന്നവര്‍ക്ക് ഡീലക്‌സ് റൂമുകളും ഡോർമിറ്ററി സൗകര്യങ്ങളും ലഭ്യമാക്കും. ഡോർമിറ്ററിയിലെ ഓരോ കിടക്കയ്ക്കും ഡീലക്‌സ് റൂമിനും യഥാക്രമം 160 രൂപയും 890 രൂപയുമാണ് കെഎസ്ആർടിസി പ്രതിദിനം ഈടാക്കുന്നത്. 

കെഎസ്ആർടിസി ചെയർമാനും മാനേജിങ് ഡയറക്ടറുമായ ബിജു പ്രഭാകറിന്‍റെ സ്വപ്ന പദ്ധതിയാണിത്‌. സ്ലീപ്പർ കോച്ചുകളിൽ താമസിക്കുന്ന വിനോദസഞ്ചാരികൾക്കും ദൂരെ സ്ഥലങ്ങളിൽ നിന്ന് വയനാട്ടിലേക്ക് കെഎസ്ആർടിസി ബസിൽ യാത്ര ചെയ്യുന്നവർക്കും മാത്രമേ ഇപ്പോള്‍ സഫാരി ലഭ്യമാകൂ.

The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is conducting budget-friendly tour services successfully for some time now, where travel enthusiasts are being offered the scenic drive through winding roads and lush green forests, enabling them to enjoy blissful mistiness, fresh mountain air, and the soothing sound of streams flowing downstream among others. All these at fares that they can very much afford.

Now thousands of people are availing the trips on weekends to relax with their families and spend some quality time with them, or enjoy trips with friends.

Like the superhit tour programme to Gavi, the KSRTC offers budget tour packages to most of the popular tourist destinations of the state.

The state transport agency is conducting such popular services from many districts, like Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam, and Ernakulam. This May, the corporation is conducting such tour trips from seven depots in the Alappuzha district alone. Nearly 19 trips will be conducted to Gavi from Alappuzha alone.

Not only the southern districts, visitors from the Malabar region too can avail of the KSRTC budget tour services. The first Gavi service from Kannur depot will start by 6 pm on May 5 (Friday).
