KISS Announces May 2022 U.S. Tour Dates

KISS has announced a handful of new U.S. shows as part of the band's ongoing "End Of The Road" tour. The four rescheduled concerts will take place in May after they were postponed last year. All previously purchased tickets and VIP packages will be honored for the new dates.

As previously reported, KISS will also headline this year's Welcome To Rockville festival on Thursday, May 19 in Daytona Beach, Florida. GUNS N' ROSES , FOO FIGHTERS and KORN will close out the rest of the four-day event.

2022 U.S. tour dates:

May 11 - Milwaukee, WI - American Family Insurance Amphitheater* May 12 - Dayton, OH - Wright State University Nutter Center* May 14 - Hartford, CT - Xfinity Theatre* May 17 - Raleigh, NC - Coastal Credit Union Music Park at Walnut Creek* May 19 - Daytona Beach, FL - Welcome To Rockville – Daytona International Speedway

KISS launched its farewell trek in January 2019 but was forced to put it on hold in 2020 and part of 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"End Of The Road" was originally scheduled to conclude on July 17, 2021 in New York City but has since been extended to at least the end of 2022. The trek was announced in September 2018 following a KISS performance of the band's classic song "Detroit Rock City" on "America's Got Talent" .

Last fall, KISS frontman Paul Stanley said that the final concert of the "End Of The Road" tour will likely happen within the next year and a half.

Last October, KISS 's second Las Vegas residency was canceled, with fans who already purchased tickets via Ticketmaster having been notified that the shows were no longer taking place. The cancelation came a day after Rolling Stone magazine published a story in which a group of KISS roadies suggested that the lack of COVID protocols enforced on "End Of The Road" led to the death of a longtime guitar tech, 53-year-old Francis Stueber . Stueber died of coronavirus in his Detroit hotel room on October 17, just two days after being quarantined.

The crew members claimed the tour didn't take strict enough safety measures, including not testing everyone regularly. In addition, some crew members allegedly disguised their illness and/or faked vaccine cards.

KISS 's current lineup consists of original members Gene Simmons (bass, vocals) and Stanley , alongside later band additions, guitarist Tommy Thayer (since 2002) and drummer Eric Singer (on and off since 1991).

Formed in 1973 by Stanley , Simmons , drummer Peter Criss and lead guitarist Ace Frehley , KISS staged its first "farewell" tour in 2000, the last to feature the group's original lineup.

Nearly three years after Kiss announced the final leg of what was supposed to be their final trek, the band has plotted the final final string of dates on their End of the Road Tour .

Trumpeted as “the absolute final shows of their final tour,” the farewell leg kicks off Oct. 29 in Austin, Texas and hits arenas across the U.S. and Canada before the makeup comes off — for good? — with a two-night stand at Kiss’ hometown Madison Square Garden in New York.

“Kiss was born in New York City. On 23rd Street. Half a century ago. It will be a privilege and honor to finish touring at Madison Square Garden, 10 blocks and 50 years from where we first started,” the band said of the final two gigs, Dec. 1 and 2, at the World’s Most Famous Arena.

Kiss performs its final concert. But has the band truly reached the 'End of the Road'?

Kiss band members, from left, Tommy Thayer, Gene Simmons, Eric Singer and Paul Stanley participate in the ceremonial lighting of the Empire State Building on Thursday in New York.

In the 50 years since Kiss first kicked and thrashed its way onto the New York rock scene, the band has given the world sing-and-shout-along hits like "Detroit Rock City," "Crazy Crazy Nights" and "Beth," and live performances replete with blood-spattering, fire-breathing, pyrotechnics and gobs of cartoonish stage makeup.

"Their schtick lifted them up to the absolute top," music writer Joel Selvin , the author of numerous books about rock musicians including Linda Ronstadt, the Grateful Dead and Sly and the Family Stone, told NPR.

On Saturday, the memorable stagecraft that made Kiss one of the biggest selling hard rock bands in the world will come to an end, as its members perform what they are touting as their final show of their aptly titled, four-year-long "End of the Road World Tour" — at Madison Square Garden in New York. The concert will be available to watch live on Pay-Per-View .

"It has nothing to do with personalities in the band or tensions or a difference of opinion or musicality. It's purely practical," said Kiss co-founder, rhythm guitarist and vocalist Paul Stanley in an interview with the music publication Ultimate Classic Rock of the band's reasons for bringing five decades of Kiss to an end. "You can play beat the clock, but ultimately the clock wins."

The city has apparently gone Kiss-crazy in the days leading up to the occasion, with the appearance of Kiss-themed taxis, Metro cards and pizza boxes. On Wednesday, the New York Rangers hosted KISS Game Night , featuring Kiss-related activities and "limited-edition KISS x Rangers merchandise." Band members also made an appearance at an Empire State Building lighting ceremony on Thursday. Staged in honor of Kiss' swan song, Empire State emitted the colored lights associated with the band — silver, red, purple, green and blue.

'We Wanted To Be Larger Than Life': Paul Stanley Of KISS On Almost 50 Years Of Rock

Music Interviews

'we wanted to be larger than life': paul stanley of kiss on almost 50 years of rock.

Despite all the hooplah, this may not in fact be Kiss' goodbye kiss. The band undertook a previous "farewell tour" more than 20 years ago. After a brief hiatus, it started touring again on and off in 2003. Live shows and album releases flowed on from there.

In interviews, band members have spoken about continuing on after Saturday's Madison Square Garden performance in one way or another. Both Stanley and co-frontman Gene Simmons have their own bands and say they aim at the very least to continue making appearances in those formats.

"Nobody ever really says goodbye," said rock critic Selvin, citing comebacks over the years by the likes of Cher, Steve Miller and the Grateful Dead. "It's a show business strategy. You take a bow. But there's always an encore."

Selvin said artists often reappear after retiring because they can make a lot of money owing to fans' pent-up demand. For example, the pop-punk band Blink-182 is earning four times as much on its current reunion tour than it did when it last re-united in 2009, according to Far Out magazine. (The band issued a statement in 2005 saying it was going on "indefinite hiatus," only to reunite four years later.)

"Personal life interferes, you want to disappear into the woodwork for a while and then demand builds and you go back to it," Selvin said. "Steve Miller took his band apart in '99. He was just tired. And he was out for six years. And then in 2005, he put his band back together and suddenly his price was up, and there was more interest in seeing him."

Meanwhile, some musical acts simply never retire. The Rolling Stones, for instance, are embarking on yet another North America tour in 2024. The band just announced additional dates .

Selvin doesn't think we've heard the last of Kiss.

"The rule of the farewell tour is that you have to say goodbye to every hall, and sometimes you have to say goodbye twice," Selvin said. "I do not expect this to be the last time that Kiss performs, any more than 'Fare Thee Well' was the last time The Grateful Dead performed."

KISS announces final tour ever

By Andrea Park

September 20, 2018 / 3:15 PM EDT / CBS News

Fans can give Paul Stanley, Tommy Thayer, Eric Singer and Gene Simmons a kiss goodbye. KISS announced their final world tour, appropriately titled "End of the Road." The band performed "Detroit Rock City" on "America's Got Talent" before the big reveal on Tuesday.

The band has been active for 45 years. In a statement, they said, "All that we have built and all that we have conquered over the past four decades could never have happened without the millions of people worldwide who've filled clubs, arenas and stadiums over those years. This will be the ultimate celebration for those who've seen us and a last chance for those who haven't. KISS Army, we're saying goodbye on our final tour with our biggest show yet and we'll go out the same way we came in ... Unapologetic and Unstoppable."

  • Gene Simmons announces $2,000 box set, "The Vault"

In total, KISS has a discography of 20 studio albums, 8 live albums and 13 compilation albums. The band was founded in 1973.

The band has not announced yet when the tour will kick off, but KISS fan club members will be the first to know.

"End of the Road" is not KISS's first farewell tour. The band held "The Farewell Tour" from 2000 to 2002 with original members Ace Frehley and Peter Criss.

Earlier this year, Stanley hinted at retirement during an interview with Billboard . He said, "I don't want to go leave home. I have a family and I have children and, honestly, I think my primary responsibility is to be a dad and I don't want to miss out on that. And certainly as we got older we know that life is finite and I pick and choose what I want to do at this point."

Kiss are an American rock band, forming in New York City, New York, United states of America, they have been making: hard rock, heavy metal and glam rock since 1973.

Originally Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley were a part of a rock and roll band called "Wicked Lester" left the band after feeling that their music needed to head in a new direction. Later in 1972 Peter Criss joined the band after auditioning for the duo when they came across an advert he had placed in Rolling Stone.

The band went on to audition for Epic Records, they however were not liked and did not manage to secure a record deal. During this time period the band began to mess around with their image, they started to dress differently from the stereotypical rock scene at the time and also wore make up. In 1973 the band gained Ace Frehley who would become their lead guitarist as they were very impressed with his audition, the band soon officially became known as "Kiss".

On November 1 1973, Kiss were signed to Casablanca records, later that year the band had their first opening for a band called "Blue Oyster Cult" at the Academy of Music in New York. It was here that Gene Simmons accidentally set his hair on fire (needless to say he survived).

Kiss received positive reception when they released their live version of song "Rock and Roll All Nite" This was followed by the bands release of studio album "Destroyer" which was released in 1976, the album went gold a month after release and their song "Shout It Out Loud" reached number 1 on the Canadian Singles Chart. The album went on to go double platinum in the US with 2 million sales.

Kiss have received over 15 awards such as Band Of The Year by Metal Edge Readers' Choice Awards, Favorite new song for "Beth" and have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.

As of 2014 the band members of Kiss include: Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer.

Live reviews

Kiss & Def Leppard ... what a pair! The concert took place at Lakewood Amphitheater in Atlanta. As we were driving in, we could see the clouds getting darker and darker ... storm coming our way ... seemed like the gray/black in the sky, along with the occasional clap of thunder, were getting ready for a night of rooooccckk! Of course, we arrived and it started raining … but that did not stop us … it was a night to remember. I’ve been a Def Leppard fan since the early 90s … the amphitheater was packed … they sang non-stop all their greatest hits – and boy do they have a lot of them! I could see the crowds (different ages – some who had brought their kids), join me as we travelled back in time to those high school or college years and remembered that special someone as we were singing “Two Steps Behind” or “Pour Some Sugar on Me”. It was priceless! Short break … it stopped raining and it’s now dark. A black curtain with the famous KISS logo is covering the stage and it’s now completely dark outside. The crowd is standing up and curiously waiting for what’s coming next … Down comes the curtain and the group starts descending to the stage on one of those … oh, so well known mechanical platforms used during the 80s. KISS on stage is the stereotype of the glam 80s band on steroids. I love going to concerts and usually make it to pretty much any concert that hits Atlanta: old, new, rock, alternative – you name it. I have seen all kinds of cool stages, lightshows, fireworks, etc … but nothing could prepare me for seeing this band which continues to deliver on the excess of 80s rock & roll even after we’ve long past the decade of rock. It was amazing … the makeup, the costumes, that platform as they descended onto the stage … it was a combination of “Rock of Ages” and “Rockstar”. For those of you who were young during the 80s … this show will infuse you with that energy that only music can provide … for those of you in the mid-to late 90s and after … if you know good music – you know these guys and the show is something to remember!

Thank you for caring enough to see if we enjoyed our time at the Kiss concert on 3-26-19. This is the first concert I’ve ever been to here and the first concert my sons have ever been to. Most of all this was a birthday gift to my husband. I have to say Kiss is amazing. Your staff and cleanliness was amazing for such a big place. Great job!!! But I do have to say I was very disappointed in our seats. We had so much obstruction from the jumbo tron and poles from our seats. It hugely impacted how much of the show or what we could see of the show.

So instead of a great visual and audible experience, it was more audible with some glimpses of the huge screen and some stage. I wish as I purchased these tickets I was shown where the poles and equipment were going to be because I bought these tickets the first day they were opened to purchase and there were many seats in that price range to purchase at the time. I would have definitely purchased different seating for the same money. I could send you pictures of what we saw from our seating, if you would like to see them. Just sad...again I do appreciate you actually reaching out to us about our experience and actually I’m very impressed. Keep up the great work and cleanliness, because we were very surprised on how amazingly cared for the TD Garden was taken care of and again nice staff. Obviously great management. I also appreciate you reaching out to us, again Great customer service. Thank you Traci Mahar

KISS was the best act I have ever watched. From Paul Stanley zip-lining to perform mid-audience on a platform, in his twelve-inch platform boots, to the band members not only performing on stage but high above it, as well, to Gene Simmons "breathing fire" and sililoquiy spitting blood segment. All the band members were lifted above the main stage at various times through-out the concert. It was quite the spectacle.

They also did not waste time before the encore performance as there was a curfew. So they just kept playing on. I did not hear any curse words as they must have been aware of their young KISS army members in the audience, dressed fully in KISS regalia. A few fans were also observed outside who were dressed up as Ace Freley, the space object, Peter Criss and even the vampire, Gene Simmons.

At one point, Paul Stanley joked that the previous night's audience in Austin had said the same thing about Dallas fans as the Fair Park crowd had booed the southern fans when Paul had asked who were the biggest rock and roll fans in the state of Texas. KISS closed their set with the classic rock anthem, "Rock and Roll All Night and Party Every Day". Over-all, the KISS experience made up for what was lacking from the previous act and the opening one. Kudos to KISS!

I Have Only Been Going To Concerts Since The End Of 2017 and I've Already Seen Many Of My Favourites And I Have Always Wanted To See Kiss as they are One if not My top favourite band of All Time and after seeing them for the first and only time last night in London i can say without a doubt it was and is (I Stand By My Word When I say This) the best thing i have ever been to in possibly my entire lifetime (not kidding) There will never be another band like Kiss The Stage setup, timing with the pyro etc was outstanding as you expect from kiss, and the finale was awesome I have been a fan Of Paul Stanley For years and my favourite thing to watch him do is when he smashes his guitar at the end of the show, it made me so happy to see it live in person i got emotional, like i said you'll regret it when Kiss is No Longer About, No One Does A Live Show Like Kiss and if this is indeed the Final Tour they indeed went out with a bang And il'l Never forget it.

Another great Kiss concert, they know how to put on a show! The first time I've seen them in this lineup. They played most of the songs I expected and wanted them to play, from Detroit Rock City to Black Diamond, Psycho Circus, Lick it up and Rock and Roll all night. Was a bit baffled that I was made for loving you got one of the best reactions from the audience. Seriously, Paris? I think there was a fairly equal spread of songs from most parts of their career, although they maybe should have played I just wanna, and no matter how much Paul wants Hell or Hallelujah to become a classic, I don't think it will. Anyway, this is supposed to be a positive review. Kiss rock and which other bands shoot fireworks from their guitars and have their band members play above the audience and in the crowd? Yes, Kiss will probably back again, but I'd say, go and see them while you still can!

A KISS Goodbye! I’ve seen KISS 3 other times, once in the 70’s, once in the 80’s and once in the 90’s. But last nights concert in Minneapolis was a Crazy, Crazy Night!! They pulled out all the stops to make sure that their last concert here was an amazing spectacle! I brought my 24 year old son to witness his first (and probably last) KISS concert and he was literally blown away! Thank you KISS for allowing me to share this experience with my son!! Thank you Gene and Paul for the many decades of incredible music and on stage mayhem! Thank you Tommy and Eric for being absolutely top-notch replacements for the other two originals. I have been, since my teenage years, an avid KISS fan...and now in my fiftys, I am proud to say I Still Am!! Thank You KISS!!

The End of the Road Tour stopped in Ottawa last night. It was almost painful to watch. They should no longer be playing back to back shows, Paul Stanley's voice is done. It was clear that he is using backup vocals. There were times when you'd hear his voice but he was not at his mic. Tommy Thayer is not Ace Frehley that much was obvious. The show appeared clumsy and disorganized at times. The setlist needs some tweaking, not a very good sampling of their entire catalog. They often at times seemed like they were just collecting a paycheque. Gene and Paul say they couldn't depend on Ace and Peter but Ace simply cannot be replaced. This tour will suffer because of this.

Being a rock fan, I wanted to go for the single reason that they are considered a legendary rock band and I wanted to cross them out of my list.

It happened to be - most likely, honestly! - the best show I have ever been to in my life. They showed they are not a bunch of old rags that rely on top of past achievements but a bunch of passionate rock professionals who, despite their age, give all they can to deliver an outstanding performance - and the most impressive thing is, they DID!

Imagine now, if it was THAT good and they are in their late 60s, how epic it must have been when they were younger!

I truly hope I have the opportunity to see them again!

One of the best concerts I have ever been to and I've been to a lot !! Great theatre and a fantastic spectacle all round. This is why these guys have survived the rock industry for 40+ years and still pack out arenas. They can truly teach bands of today how it's done. Absolute professionals. Money well spent. If I had to find a negative (which isn't easy) it would be the concert length. At around 1hr 45 mins, I would have liked a few more songs to push it to 2hrs but seeing they are in their 60's I can forgive them for that !! Don't waste a second and make sure you see kiss while you can. You won't regret it !! Rock on !!

Concert Tour

KISS 2021 – 2022 Tour Dates

It seems as if we may be hearing the last live music from the epic rock band KISS . They just announced their tour plans for 2021 and 2022, and it appears as they will continue on their last time to tour. The concert tour is being labelled as ‘ KISS – End of the Road World Tour ‘ and from all accounts, unlike other performer’s farewell treks, it looks like this is the end. A big question looming in fans’ heads is, will ANY of the past members be part of it? Will they perform with Peter Criss? Will Ace Frehley be there? Those facts are still unanswered and until there is an official statement, we will just have to hope and guess. It does appear that David Lee Roth will be the opening act for many of the 2020 North American shows.   KISS was formed back in 1973 and their original line up consisted of The Starchild (Paul Stanley), The Demon (Gene Simmons), The Spaceman or Space Ace (Ace Frehley), and The Catman (Peter Criss). Active members in the band remain Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, but also include Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer. Other past members include Eric Carr, Vinnie Vincent, Mark St. John and Bruce Kulick.

After conquering the charts with “Espresso,” Sabrina Carpenter is ready to share her sixth full-length album , “Short n’ Sweet.” The LP is set for an Aug. 23 debut.

Carpenter shared the news on her social media along with the sultry sweet album artwork that has her front and center with a ruby red kiss mark on her shoulder. In the caption, Carpenter wrote, “I am so excited to announce my brand new album ‘Short n’ Sweet’ coming in August. This project is quite special to me and I hope it’ll be something special to you too. I also have a surprise coming for you on Thursday night so keep an eye out.”

Related stories, with queen catalog deal, sony would rule cooled music publishing market, miami’s busy telemundo center gears up for the election, olympics and even more film and tv productions.

Adding fuel to her fire, Carpenter also appeared as a guest on “Saturday Night Live,” and took over the mainstage at California’s Coachella festival. That weekend, she performed “Espresso” live for the first time, just days after the single premiered.

Carpenter released her fifth studio album “Emails I Can’t Send” last year, and it became her highest-charting to date. The LP included a hot single “Nonsense,” which has quickly become a fan favorite. She followed the 2022 release with a deluxe edition earlier this year, and embarked on an 80-date international headlining tour to support the project. She was also the opening act on Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour , opening for the singer in South America and Australia.

Carpenter started her career in entertainment as the star of the  2014-17 Disney Channel comedy “Girl Meets World .” She simultaneously was working on music, first under the Disney-owned Hollywood Records, and now under Island Records.

10 can’t-miss concerts in the D.C. area this June

The always-fertile local scene has an abundance of young acts celebrating new releases.

kiss tour opening act 2022

D.C.’s decades-long status as a capital of punk and DIY music has been well documented, in books, documentaries, zines, tribute records and this publication. But the weight of that history often threatens to engulf the present scene, like towering stacks of old newspapers in a hoarder’s garage.

But the tenets of a do-it-yourself — or, more accurately, do-it-together — scene have always served as an invitation for new acts and audiences to join as others age out or otherwise move on. While there are live shows featuring local acts nearly every night of every month, June presents a special opportunity to check in with the current crop of D.C. bands continuing the city’s tradition.

Flowers for the Dead have been budding up for the last few years, delivering loud-quiet-loud dirges about the depressive themes that their name suggests in lyrics and out-of-phase riffs from bandleader Jessie Szegö and the hypnotic rhythm section of bassist Ella Buskirk and drummer Ten Bears. The power trio are marking their first single release since their 2022 album “Quiet Corrosion in the Dancing Hall” with a show at Songbyrd. They’ll be joined by Milliseconds , a new band of old collaborators. Milliseconds brings Dismemberment Plan rhythm section Joe Easley and Eric Axelson together with guitarist Leigh Thompson for throwback indie rock that sees Axelson overcoming a lifelong anxiety around singing to get in front of the mic. (June 6 at 8 p.m. at Songbyrd. songbyrddc.com . $16-$20.)

Flowerbomb shares a floral name and a similar period of influence with Flowers for the Dead but has a sunnier disposition. The four-piece churns out impeccable pop melodies with lyrics that nod to ennui and nostalgia (“I know that my heart beats faster/ Every day since ’98”) and will be celebrating an EP release as part of the band’s ongoing and au courant “Gloom Scroll” project. Flowerbomb will be joined by Pinky Lemon, a group that specializes in pop that is alternatingly synthy, spacey, gazy and dreamy with irony-heavy lyrics: “I’ve got big money down on pop criminal stocks,” it deadpans on “Pop Criminal.” “Everybody goes to jail when you hand me the aux.” (June 14 at 10 p.m. at Comet Ping Pong. cometpingpong.com . $15.)

D.C. favorites Ted Leo and the Pharmacists are celebrating the 20th anniversary of the impeccable “Shake the Sheets,” but make sure to catch tour mate Ekko Astral , a D.C. act that is quickly building buzz and opening its self-described “mascara mosh pit” to wider audiences. The punk band’s debut album, “Pink Balloons,” is full of vicious kiss-offs for the terminally online, local D.C. flavor and hooks that live up to their physical definition in the way they take hold and don’t let go. But at Ekko Astral’s core is a dialogue informed by and about the queer and trans experience, from its revelatory highs to violent lows. “If you walk through a cemetery/ You’ll find people buried under gravestones of strangers,” frontwoman Jael Holzman sneers. “I have friends still hiding while you throw a parade.” (June 20 at 7 p.m. at 9:30 Club. 930.com . Sold out.)

As Spring Silver , Maryland-based songwriter K Nkanza makes, according to their Bandcamp page, “the wrong music for the wrong people.” That tongue-in-cheek descriptor nods to the way that Spring Silver’s tunes throw varied influences — post-hardcore, experimental electronica, power pop, what have you — into pop songs for folks who have been marginalized by various -isms and -phobias. No two songs sound alike: The expansive “Gold Star” feels like “OK Computer”-era Radiohead, but the impossibly sunny “Another Perfect Day, Another Perfect Night” belies deeper anxieties: “Are you content to be consumed,” Spring Silver asks, “passed around like a chalice?” The band will be joined by Soul Meets Body , a D.C.-Baltimore band also working to lift up under-heard voices and build a supportive community through music. (June 7 at 8 p.m. at the Pocket. thepocketdc.com . $15-$18.)

Shaed is its own community in microcosm, a family band that pairs twins Max and Spencer Ernst with vocalist Chelsea Lee (who is married to Spencer). The D.C.-born band whistled its way from a MacBook commercial to streaming and chart success with the moody electro-pop hit “Trampoline,” but after a pandemic and the birth of Chelsea and Spencer’s daughter, it’s refocused on the forthcoming “Spinning Out.” From the early singles, the trio’s sophomore album promises breezy ballads and bops and plenty of sun-kissed, streamlined pop. (June 15 and 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the Atlantis. theatlantis.com . First show sold out, second show $30.)

The dream of the ’90s — specifically of cross-pollinators like Rage Against the Machine and Incubus — is alive at this dual record release party. Outerloop rips riffy rock with touches of punk, funk and jazz and the powerhouse, operatic vocals of Taisha Estrada, who changes language as the song necessitates. On “Huracán,” a song about displacement and gentrification in Puerto Rico, she voices the oppressed in Spanish and the oppressor in English. Meanwhile, prog-hop act XK Scenario pair dense instrumentation with Kaleab Elias’s rapped missives. (June 29 at 10 p.m. at Comet Ping Pong. cometpingpong.com . $15.)

Nick Bairatchnyi has been in emo-pop band the Obsessives since he was a teenager, but after a few years in Philly amid the city’s vibrant indie rock scene, he sharpened his edges into something more immediate and raw and reemerged as Prude . Backed by friends Ray Brown and Alex Bass (who also serve as the rhythm section for Snail Mail), Bairatchnyi makes songs to sway along to, capturing the sense of friendship amid familiarity on “Cowboy Beatdown” as he sings, “I’ll be at every single show/ It’s something to do/ It’s people to see/ All that I want, I want is no mystery.” (June 12 at 7 p.m. at Songbyrd. songbyrddc.com . $15-$18.)

On the cover of its last EP, Massie went for the flesh: a close-up portrait of a bloody smile, the band’s name spelled out in braces. The female-fronted pop-punk trio grins and bears it on the project, and will release a new single alongside Baltimore alt-rockers Dosser (not to be confused with their sonic cousins in D.C.’s Tosser). (May 31 at 8 p.m. at Pie Shop. pieshopdc.com . $15.)

Birthday Girl opted for a similarly smash-mouth image on its latest EP, which features a fleshy photo of an open mouth with an open socket. If not “Dirtier” like the title suggests, it’s more dynamic than the already-promising tunes of the band’s sweeping debut, with clever lyrics that are still youthful and vulnerable: “The grass I’m on is the first I’ve touched/ Everyone says that the other’s always greener/ But I think this plastic turf is not enough/ I can feel this real stuff through my sneakers.” The young trio is opening for Les Savy Fav , indie survivors more in the musical lineage of the bands that two members of Birthday Girl are literally descended from: Guitarist Mabel Canty and bassist Bella MacKaye are the daughters of Dischord originals Brendan Canty and Alec MacKaye, respectively. (June 28 at 8 p.m. at the Black Cat. blackcatdc.com . $25-$30.)

Just as Dischord was founded to release a record by Ian MacKaye’s Teen Idles, Breakfast All Day Records was launched by Bethesda high-schoolers last year. The “School’s Out” matinee features alt-rockers Scoria; jammy act Lola; and the Plastic Toys, a trio that features one-third of the label’s brain trust on drums. The label’s mission statement was published on Instagram but could have been released any time in the last 40 years: “With so many exciting things happening in the teenage music scene locally, we want to work to document and share it with you.” (June 8 at 1:30 p.m. at Songbyrd. songbyrddc.com . $12-$15.)
