Kenny Chesney Announces Chicago Concert Tour Date at Soldier Field

Kenny chesney coming to solider field: "i always want to be that place where you can let go, feel safe and have the time of the summer," he said., published june 18, 2021 • updated on june 18, 2021 at 11:44 am.

Kenny Chesney will headline Chicago's Soldier Field next summer as part of his Here And Now 2022 Stadium Tour, the singer announced.

Chesney's previous tour dates for later this summer were postponed because of COVID-19. He now will appear at Solider Field on June 25, 2022.

"Like it does for everyone, the idea of music, live music, fills me up," Chesney said in a statement to fans. "Nothing is so in the moment, so completely alive. I want to start 2022 with the awesome rush that embodies everything playing for No Shoes Nation is. We're calling the tour Here And Now 2022, because when we get together, there is only the present – and it’s so electric and good, I know I don’t want it to end. I just want to be 100% there with all of you."

Shifting capacity requirements and coronavirus protocols in cities and states around the country delayed the announcement of the new tour. Chesney said he didn't want to announce new dates until "we knew we could come full on… strong… and without a care in the world."

"I always want to be that place where you can let go, feel safe and have the time of the summer," he said.

The 19-stadium tour kicks off April 23, 2020, in Tampa, Florida. Current ticketholders will remain in the seats they already purchased for the tour. Refunds are immediately available for the next 30 days "at the point of purchase for those who bought from the primary ticket source."

A new lineup will be announced in the next few months.

"I can’t wait," Chesney said. "Literally, here and now. In the moment. All of us together, like we've been so many times, but fresh and alive and in the music. That’s why we’re calling it Here And Now 2022. It’s the perfect name for this tour."

Kenny Chesney to Play Stadiums in 2022 With Dan + Shay

After a three-year hiatus, Kenny Chesney will return to stadiums in spring and summer of 2022. The country singer announced a massive package tour on Monday: The Here and Now 2022 Tour features Dan + Shay , Old Dominion , and Carly Pearce .

Chesney’s 21-concert tour begins April 23rd at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa and makes stops in major markets like Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Nashville (he’ll play Nissan Stadium over Memorial Day weekend). The trek wraps up with two nights at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts — Chesney’s traditional venue to close his tours.

“No matter who you are, someone who’s been coming since the very beginning or is curious what the fuss is all about, I wanted to give No Shoes Nation the best lineup of music that’s gonna give them the kind of celebratory night we all deserve after waiting so long,” Chesney said in a statement.

Originally titled the Chillaxification Tour, the run was slated for 2020 but was delayed twice by the pandemic. Chesney ultimately scrapped that tour and put together the new Here and Now 2022 trek, named after his most recent album, 2020’s Here and Now .

Kenny Chesney fans pack Pittsburgh concert

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — People tailgated for hours ahead of Kenny Chesney's concert in Pittsburgh on Saturday, on both land and sea.

It might as well have been a high school reunion for Mackenzie McNally.

"You just get to see them and you get to drink and have fun," McNally said.

Even after tailgating at numerous Chesney concerts, she's never actually made it inside, until now.

"I've been excited for this my whole life," McNally said.

That was an experience shared by a lot of people. Rather than tailgate, some people were in boats on the river. Some called it "sailgating" while others called it "boatgating." They told KDKA-TV that you can hear the concert from the boats.

"What's better than being on a boat for a Kenny Chesney concert," Edgar Parrilla II said. "I have a boat full of 15 people. We're all partying, and we're all listening to music."

He explained the last time he tailgated a Chesney concert in Pittsburgh, people were burning couches, something he said made him want to come back.

Asked if it was that rowdy on Saturday, he said only in a few specific lots.

"It was really crazy, but we were having a good time. There was nothing too out of pocket," concertgoer Alice said. 

She did note how bathroom lines were long, while a friend of hers said there was a bonfire. Others had an even more positive experience. 

"It's been a good time here. Everything is getting better with crime and hostility," said Julia Genuardi, who said the tailgate experience was better this year than the last time she attended.

Genuardi noticed people cleaning up after themselves and others on Saturday. There was a significant amount of trash left in the lots during the concert, but a street sweeper vehicle was going around the lots picking up trash.

"It feels like everyone has really come together and realized, why are we gonna be rowdy and rude? Let's be nice and have fun," Genuardi said. 

Chesney took the stage at around 9:15 p.m. on Saturday.

Kenny Chesney is coming back to Pittsburgh. Here's what you need to know for Saturday's concert

P ITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Country music superstar Kenny Chesney returns to Pittsburgh this weekend for a much-anticipated concert at Acrisure Stadium. 

Chesney and his "Sun Goes Down Tour" return to Pittsburgh for the 12th time on Saturday with special guests Zac Brown Band, Megan Moroney and Uncle Kracker. 

Chesney last played in Pittsburgh  in June 2022. Last summer, he played in State College in March during his "I Go Back Tour."

Tailgating details for Kenny Chesney's Pittsburgh concert

Parking lots open at 1 p.m. on Saturday, with all parking lots surrounding Acrisure Stadium open for visitors. 

"Fans are encouraged to use North Shore parking lots, including the Champions Garage and other North Shore lots," Acrisure Stadium said in a news release on Tuesday. 

All gates at the stadium open at 4 p.m., and the concert kicks off at 5 p.m.  Anyone with floor seats must use Gate 6 north endzone on Reedsdale Street. 

Transportation options for Kenny Chesney concert in Pittsburgh 

People attending the Kenny Chesney concert on Saturday are encouraged to park in Downtown Pittsburgh and ride the light rail to Acrisure Stadium. The ride on the light rail is free. 

Fans can also park at Station Square and ride the Gateway Clipper to the North Shore for $30. 

"The majority of the downtown Pittsburgh Parking Authority garages will charge $6 - $20 for event day parking that will vary by garage," Acrisure Stadium said in Tuesday's news release. 

Officials also want to remind anyone going to the concert that the Ninth Street Bridge and Merchant Street will be closed due to the Arts Festival and Pittsburgh Pride. Fort Duquesne Boulevard between Sixth and Ninth streets will also be closed. 

Kenny Chesney concert bag policy

Fans are encouraged not to bring a bag to the Kenny Chesney concert on Saturday. If a bag is necessary, fans can use two types: a clear plastic bag the size of a 1-gallon Ziploc bag or a small handheld purse clutch.   

Acrisure Stadium is also a cashless venue. 

Tens of thousands of people coming for concert experience 

Tens of thousands of people are set to make their way to the North Shore to experience the Kenny Chesney concert. 

Parked along the North Shore, some people have been waiting on their boats for weeks.

"We just wanted a spot, and this is where we chose to be at. And we're just looking forward to some fun this weekend," boater Ricky Sparrow said.

This year, the “calamari comeback” chef might not be coming back

WASHINGTON — The “calamari comeback” chef who delighted viewers of the last Democratic National Convention might not be coming back.

John Bordieri was dubbed by some as the “calamari ninja” for standing wordlessly, clad head-to-toe in black, and holding a platter of lightly buttered, sautéed squid on a Rhode Island beach during a video roll call of states that formally made Joe Biden the party’s presidential nominee in 2020.

Bordieri said he’s not heard from state or national leaders about a repeat performance when Democrats gather again this summer in Chicago .

He is planning to start a vacation when their convention opens on Aug. 19. And more importantly, he prefers former President Donald Trump to Biden — so organizers likely won’t want him back, anyway.

“I’m a Trump supporter, to be honest with you,” Bordieri, 57, said in an interview during which he divulged for the first time publicly his true political sympathies and his plans to vote for the Republican in November. “But I was told to tell everybody that I’m independent.”

The Democratic National Convention has announced plans to again nominate Biden via a virtual roll call before the in-person event formally begins. That’s so it can satisfy an early ballot deadline set by Republican-controlled Ohio, even though state lawmakers there have since eased their rules .

The convention floor in Chicago will still feature an in-person nominating process. But the coronavirus pandemic offered numerous lessons about using virtual content to modernize often staid norms. That’s left political junkies — and at least some people who count calamari among their favorite foods — asking about whether they’d see Bordieri again this year.

Convention organizers said no programming decisions have been made.

“Our convention will pull in people across the country to showcase how President Biden and Democrats are delivering for Americans and lay out a vision for the future,” said Emily Soong, a convention spokesperson.

Rhode Island Democratic Party Chair Liz Beretta-Perik didn’t respond to questions about whether Bordieri — or calamari more generally — will star in the Ocean State’s plans at this year’s convention.

Bordieri said he’s open to doing a video contribution similar to 2020’s. But he’s planning to be off during the convention and has no travel plans then, except to suburban Boston for an Aug. 25 concert by country star Kenny Chesney.

His part in the 2020 convention was so memorable because many officials speaking for their states stuck to serious topics. They decried the federal response to the COVID-19 pandemic or the virus-decimated economy under Trump, or otherwise promoted efforts to fight poverty or combat racial injustice.

Rhode Island focused on squid — meant to highlight how its fishing industry was finding innovative ways to boost sales after COVID-19 shuttered restaurants and saw prices and demand for fresh catches fall.

Then-Rhode Island Democratic Party chair Joseph McNamara, a state lawmaker who successfully lobbied to make calamari Rhode Island’s official appetizer, taped the state’s 30-second video contribution on Oakland Beach in Warwick, near Iggy’s Boardwalk restaurant, where Bordieri is executive chef.

Bordieri didn’t speak. He only hoisted for the camera calamari with garlic, parsley and slices of cherry peppers. That’s how it’s most often served locally, sometimes with banana peppers as well.

McNamara declared Rhode Island “the calamari comeback state,” prompting immediate, snarky proclamations online that the appetizer had clinched the Democratic nomination — or that it had even won the entire 2020 election.

Bordieri said he wasn’t going for a ninja look, only wearing his normal black uniform, “and I just happened to wear black gloves that day.” When he arrived on the beach, he says, producers “looked me up and down and said, ‘You’re going to be in the shot.’”

He was instructed to wear a mask for filming and slipped on a black face-covering that only made him look more like a ninja. After the video aired on the 2020 convention’s second night, the calls started coming by midnight, making Bordieri too excited to get much sleep.

“My wife says, ‘Oh my God, you’re trending!’ I said, ‘What’s trending?’” Bordieri laughed. He also quickly became acquainted with another term he’d not previously heard, “blowing up” online.

When he went to work in the morning, he recalled: “The phone’s ringing all day long. The business phone. My phone. Reporters, TV, newspaper, radio, the whole nine yards. I was talking to everybody.” And, of course, their calamari sales spiked.

The crispy snack remains popular at Iggy’s three locations around Rhode Island, which sell around 400 pounds per week. “If it’s done right, and you use a good product, people are going to love it,” he said.

The hubbub from four years ago has mostly subsided. But Bordieri said a few buddies still call him the calamari ninja.

“If we go out to dinner, if I’m with these certain friends, they let everybody know that I’m in the building,” he said. “I get a little embarrassed sometimes.”
