The kids enjoyed jumping off the boat and even steering.

We made it back safely and happily to Paros today. Yianni showed us secluded beaches, surprising chortas and agreed to take us to santorini even though he hates sailing there! Athens (2 Nights)

Your private tour of Greece begins in Athens, one of the world’s oldest cities. You will be taken by private transfer to your hotel in downtown Athens with views of the Acropolis. Once a powerful city-state and a center for the arts, learning and philosophy, Athens was home to Plato’s Academy and Aristotle’s Lyceum, and is often referred to as the cradle of Western civilization and the birthplace of democracy. Its heritage of the classical era is still evident and represented by ancient monuments and works of art dotted throughout the city, the most famous being the Parthenon.

After you settle into your luxury hotel, visit the innovative Acropolis Museum with your expert guide. The museum’s glass design is equal in size and shape to the Parthenon, and rotates the marble sculptures and findings exactly as they were placed at the Parthenon centuries ago. After your immersion into the rich history of the Acropolis, dine at a nearby restaurant with breathtaking views of the Acropolis.

The next day, visit the Acropolis itself, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the most important ancient site in the Western world. Milos (1 Night)

In the morning head to the uninhabited island of Polyaigos to swim in its crystal clear waters and enjoy its deserted beaches. You will make stops at different emerald bays that explode in blue color due to the underground white clay at the ocean bottom. In the afternoon, continue your Greece private charter with a visit to Milos Island, an idyllic place for those who want to experience Greece in all its beauty while skipping the crowds found on the more popular islands. Paros (1 Night)

How much does a yacht charter costs?

The charter rates below are the prices for the whole yacht (per sailboat - NOT per person). In order to obtain the charter rates per person for a short Greek islands cruise, you simply divide the rates listed below to the number of persons in your party. For example a group of 6 interested in a 5 day trip in June - season B - will pay 3490 euro per boat thus 3530 euro / 6 persons = only 588 euro per person.

Incredible value for money - cheaper than any other holiday option and an absolute superior experience to the typical "ferry to an island / stay in a hotel" alternative.

We offer our guests the advantage to pay a flat rate prior to setting sail, and that’s it!

After surfing the web and looking at different options for your sailing vacation, you might have noticed most yacht rental are structured similarly with renting a car. The charter rate covers the price for hiring the yacht itself (just like the car rental price covers the car itself).

And all the other aspects/costs involved are on you to cover as you go. For a car that would be things like gas, toll rates. With similar structure, when you are budgeting for your sailing holidays, you will have add on top of the charter rate, the other expenses involved as they appear. The trouble with this approach is that for a yacht the total/ final price the extras add up to varies several factors. Which makes it difficult for the traveler to figure out the total price he will end up paying (an aspect that will naturally might make him worried or anxious).

For example while the rate applied for skipper services is pretty much standard for all companies (190-240 euro/day), all the others extra can range according to many factors. How much fuel you are going to use depends on how long the engine will be running - more specifically on the distance to your favorite destination and weather condition. "But won't we be sailing most of the time-why are we discussing fuel?' you might be wondering. Please read below the paragraph marked with **

So we are taking a different approach. In order to avoid the hassle of having an expense account open , we have grouped everything in the : "All costs included" combo of 330 euro/day to include the expenses associated with chartering the sailing yacht (skipper, fuel, final cleaning, etc) that will guarantee worry free vacations. You won't have to keep an expense account open. You simply pay a one-time flat rate - divided in between the members in your group prior to setting sail, and that’s it! Much easier to plan and budget for! No hidden costs, no surprise at the end of the trip.

** How much will we be sailing /motoring? Well...it all depends on the wind conditions and the distance to the next destination. So let's take for example a sail from Mykonos to the port of Paroikia in Paros that is 28 nautical miles apart (a good average).

• In favorable weather conditions a sailboat is perfectly capable of reaching a destination powered only by sails. With a good wind speed (10-12 knots or more) a sailboat would be a moving with a regular speed around 7 miles/hour. Thus, assuming a proper breeze, you would be covering the 28 nautical miles distance in about 4 hours.
• But when winds are very mild or from an un-proper direction, the speed a sailboat can reach just on sail power can drop significantly - even as low as 2-3 miles/hour. As a result, if you try to save fuel and move just on sails, you would be covering the same distance in 9-10 hours (no time left for swimming or exploring the island you are heading to). This is when the engine is one's best friend! Is helping to go up to the regular speed of 7 knots so you reach the destination you wish, the day you wish in a reasonable time. This is an especially important aspect for many of our guests as soon as they realize a regular day on board is divided in several parts (the 3-5 hours travel time to the next destination, the 1-3 hours stop for a swim, the late afternoon/evening for exploring the islands you reach, on-shore activities, exploring the villages and dinner).
• With a 4 hours travel there's time to mix all these in a single day.

Depending on each situation, a one-way fee applies in order to cover the cost of the boat travelling from the base/regular embarkation point to the pick up point of your choice (fuel + rate for the day/s when it cannot be chartered as it will be traveling to the island you prefer to embark at).

Thus the one way fee depends on the distance to the destination chosen and can vary from 800 euro to 1450 euro.

Basically during a sailing cruise to the Greek islands, each day will feel like a full vacation thanks to the mix of so many activities:

• set sails to a new destination and stop in different coves in order to relax, spend a few hours sunbathing, swimming and snorkeling the clear blue waters of the Cyclades and the Saronic islands.
• after arriving to our destination, explore the picturesque villages in the islands, get lost in a maze of narrow cobbled paths, enjoy the unique scenery and scenic landscape. Admire the traditional Greek island architecture with whitewashed houses, colorful windows and flat roof or let yourself amazed by the Neoclassical and Venetian elegance in the Saronic islands and Peloponnese coast with buildings covered in bougainvillea, lively coffee shops and traditions restaurant, old churches, small shops and so on.
• nightlife: enjoy the cosmopolitan atmosphere and the vivid nightlife, have late dinners at traditional family owned restaurants by the seaside with the best possible view, sip a delicious cocktail at on the dozens of bars in the harbor and why not?...party till dawn at one of the clubs in the islands.
• discover the Greek history and archaeolog
• sail & hike - walk and explore the old mule tracks, admire Byzantine churches ancient settlements, discover the unique fauna & and flora (the Cyclades islands have 1400 species from which 83 are endemic), the breathtaking landscapes, hike and conquer the peaks of the mountains for an unforgettable view of the Aegean Sea. How long should I plan my sailing cruise in order to fully experience the Greek islands?

This all depends on your interests but especially on how much time you have available in Greece - the more days you have on board the more islands you will be able to explore.

Each day you will be visiting a new island ( and you will be surprise at how different each of them is ). Thus the more days you have on board, the more varied and flexible the itinerary will be and the more you will experience.

In order to enjoy the full magic the Greek island can offer, we'd recommend at least 5-7 day on board. If your program only allows a shorter 3-4 day cruise - no worries. That will be a great first experience and you can always come back next year for a 1-2 week adventure sailing the Greek islands.

Yacht Charter

For the experienced sailor. A yacht charter or bareboat means you are renting a monuhull or catamaran, without professional crew and sailing it yourself. In most destinations, a sailing certificate is required to skipper a boat on your own itinerary.

Skippered Yacht Charter

For the novice sailor. Charter a yacht with a professional skipper who will sail the yacht and provide local knowledge. Choose a monohull or catamaran yacht then sit back and relax while the skipper provides stress free sailing.

Luxury Yacht Charter

For the discerning sailor or traveller. A private yacht charter of a luxury motor, catamaran or monohull yacht, with the highest standard of service. Depending on the size of yacht, the crew ranges from two to ten crew and includes a chef for a high-end yachting experience.

Cabin Charter

For the adventurous sailor. Cabin charters are sailing tours booked by the cabin on a shared yacht. On the 51 foot Bavaria Yacht there are four double/twin cabins available and each room will have their own portholes and hatches which are the windows on the ceiling. One cabin is twin bunks. Cabins are also equipped with some storage, a small closet, and a mirror. The vessel is air conditioned.

Boat Layout:

Our 51 foot, Bavaria yacht was built in 2018 and refitted in 2020. It features a fully stocked kitchenette, indoor dining and lounging area. On deck there is open seating and lounging space on the bow and seating and lounging in a covered area on the stern. The yacht features 4 cabins available. There are three showers/toilets and one on deck to use for rinsing off after a swim.

This sailing adventure is staffed by a qualified G Adventures Skipper CEO. Your Skipper CEO knows the Islands well, and is passionate about sharing its hidden secrets with you, their "crew". Ask about the hidden gems around the islands.

Sailing the Greek islands: everything you need to know

So you’re thinking of sailing the Greek islands? Excellent choice. But with 6,000 islands scattered across the Greek seas, it’s hard to know where to begin. Luckily here’s everything you need to know about sailing in Greece, from when to go, where to add to your itinerary, and what to pack before you set sail.

What are the sailing islands in Greece?

When looking at sailing the Greek islands, you can start by figuring out what kind of journey you’d like. There are two main options: the Ionian Sea, which is ideal for beginners with its calm waters, mild winds and lush, tropical landscapes; or the Aegean Sea, an archipelago which offers stronger winds and more dramatic coastlines, better suited for seasoned sailors.  

The Ionian islands are located on the western coast of Greece, made up of Zakynthos, Ithaca, Corfu, Kefalonia, Lefkada, Paxi (or Paxos) and Kythira (among other smaller islands). These islands are known for their lush flora, beautiful beaches, and incredible natural formations like caves, waterfalls and, in some cases, mountains. Thanks to their close proximity to Italy, the Ionian islands also boast unique Venetian architecture with churches, fortresses and other historic monuments.

The Aegean sea is home to the famous Cyclades in the southeast, perfect for island-hopping if you can brave the more tumultuous waters, though that’s not to say there aren’t calmer routes around this area of Greece. There are 220 Cyclades islands, though most of these are uninhabited. Among the most well-known are Naxos (the largest Cycladic island), Mykonos, Santorini, Milos, Paros (and Antiparos), Sifnos, Kythnos, and Ios. Compared to the verdant landscapes of the Ionian islands,the Cyclades are more arid and rocky, though many of the picturesque towns are made up of white and blue houses that travelers will recognize.

What is the best month to sail in greece.

The best time for sailing the Greek islands depends on what you prioritize, be it warmer weather or quieter towns. High season is summer, from June to late August when you can expect long sunny days, clear skies, and warm water temperatures that range from 23°C to 27°C (73°F to 81°F). Bookending the high season, in June or September you can also enjoy milder winds in the Aegean Sea. It’s important to note that summer is the busiest time for tourists, so popular destinations tend to become crowded.  

Across the Cyclades and the Aegean Sea, the Meltemi winds bring a strong, dry wind with clear skies and warm temperatures. These winds are at their strongest in July and August, meaning the beaches and towns may be slightly more blustery, and creating challenging sailing conditions, but ones that experienced sailors will relish.  

Shoulder season in Greece runs from April to May and September to October, but these are still excellent times to take a sailing trip and are part of the official sailing season. Both experienced sailors and beginners will enjoy shoulder season, with its calm seas and clear waters making the perfect conditions for swimming and snorkeling. 

What to pack for a Greek island sailing trip

Your usual packing list will likely suffice for a sailing holiday, but there are a few extra things to think about before you step on board your boat. Many Greek islands only accept cash, so make sure you source that before you set sail. The usual items like a hat, sunglasses, and an extra towel for any beach trips are important. And don’t forget your swimsuit!

Laundry might be a little tricky on the boat, so bring multiple pairs of shorts, t-shirts, and other clothes you want to wear. When thinking about clothes, fabrics that dry quickly are ideal, such as linen and cotton. If you’re going to be sailing the boat, then deck shoes are important (ideally with a light sole so the deck doesn’t get scuffed). Don’t forget sunscreen and bug spray, and then just add the usual toiletries you’d bring on vacation – but don’t overpack, as boats aren’t usually the most spacious!

A dry bag to keep electronics in is invaluable, particularly for when you’re taking a dinghy from your sailing boat to the shore. When packing everything, a duffle bag is much more space-efficient than a suitcase, so that once you’re unpacked it can simply be rolled up and stored away.
