What people love about Elephant Tours

With Gareth we had a great, well organized short week, too short but ful of information, entertainment, fun.
Fantastic experience with a great guide. Thank you!
Overall the tour was great, in no small measure to Siri, the guide/driver we had. He was extremely knowledgeable on all aspects of the sites we visited and was happy to adjust the sequence of the tour where that was feasible ie apart from pre-booked hotels etc. to take into account our personal preferences. The tour fitted in a lot of towns and areas but I think the last day was too rushed. It would have been better to organise to have the last (or penultimate) night in Galle which has a lot to see.

Have you ever wanted to see an elephant up close and personal and live in the US? Have you been wanting to go on an elephant ride or watch them paint?

In this post we’ll discuss the best elephant experiences in the United States. So, whether you’re in California or Florida, there’s sure to be an elephant experience that’s perfect for you!

If you’re looking for an elephant experience in California, then the San Diego Zoo is a great option. They offer elephant rides, painting sessions, and even opportunities to feed them.

The best part about the San Diego Zoo is that they have a no-kill policy, so you can rest assured that the elephants are well-cared for.

If you’re in the Florida area, then Bush Gardens Tampa is a great place to go. They offer elephant rides, as well as opportunities to feed and bathe them.

They also have a “Elephant Keeper For A Day” program where you can learn all about these amazing animals.

While we are great believers that elephants should roam in the wild and in their natural habitat, we understand that not everyone has the opportunity to travel overseas to see them.

So, if you’re looking for the best elephant destinations in the US, then be sure to check out one of these options.

Top 3 Elephant Places to Visit in the United States

1. the performing animal welfare society (paws), north california.

Website of The Performing Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), North California

PAWS Elephant Sanctuary located in Northern California is the best place to have an up close and personal experience with elephants in the United States. There you can have the best elephant experience in US.

It is home to 5 elephants retired from zoos and circuses, it includes both African and Asian elephants. Basically, the 2,300-acre sanctuary provides the elephants with a naturalistic environment where they can live out their lives in freedom and dignity.

Visitors can see the elephants roaming around their habitat, taking mud baths, and playing with each other. They can also learn about the individual personalities and history of each elephant.

PAWS Elephant Sanctuary is a unique place where people can connect with these amazing animals and learn more about their needs and how to protect them in the wild.

2. Elephant Sanctuary Hendersonville, Tennessee

Website of Elephant Sanctuary Hendersonville, Tennessee

Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee is the largest natural habitat for captive elephants in the United States. The wild elephants roam freely over 1800 acres of pastureland, forest, and wetland habitats. They are currently hosting both Asian and African elephants and announced earlier this year that their herd is growing with three more elephants , bringing the total of elephants to 9.

The Elephant Sanctuary provides individualized care, based on the Elephant’s history and current needs. It is elephant welfare that promotes public education about the plight of captive elephants.

The Elephant Sanctuary of Tennessee was founded in 1995 by Scott Blais, Carol Buckley, and Melinda McCrowth to provide individualized care for elephants in captivity.

As the wild populations of Elephants have been declining constantly since the 2000s due to illegal hunting, human elephant conflict, and habitat loss due to urbanization. They have played a vital role to raise awareness about elephants and how we can save them.

Moreover, the Elephant Sanctuary is open to the public for guided tours and educational programs that promote understanding and awareness of the complex physical and social needs of captive elephants.

3. Elephant Refugee North America (ERNA), Georgia

Website of Elephant Refugee North America (ERNA), Georgia

Elephant Refugee North America (ERNA) is a nonprofit organization that provides a safe haven for African elephants. They are currently home to 10 African elephants.

It offers a place where the elephants can roam freely and live in a natural habitat with other elephants. However, The goal of the sanctuary is to provide a safe and secure environment for each elephant residents there, to live out their lives with dignity.

Elephant Refuge North America also offers educational programs about elephant conservation and the importance of protecting these animals in the wild.

If you’re looking for an up close and personal experience with elephants, then ERNA is the perfect place for you!

What are the Best Places to Ride Elephant in the US?

Perhaps stating the obvious here, and as we talked about earlier in the post. Generally not big fans of elephant-riding-spectacles outside of their natural habitant. If you have the opportunity to see elephants in the wild , that is always the best option.

However, if you don’t have that opportunity, we believe it’s better for more people to fall in love with these amazing animals than not. If you’re looking for a more hands-on experience with elephants, then you might want to consider ride elephants US. Elephant rides are available at several locations across the United States.

1. The Bronx Zoo, New York City

The Bronx Zoo offers elephant rides as part of their “Wild Asia Monorail” ride. Additionally, The ride takes visitors through the zoo’s Asian exhibits, which include tigers, leopards, and red pandas.

2. Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Orlando, Florida

Disney’s Animal Kingdom is home to several elephants that can be seen on the park’s Kilimanjaro Safaris ride.

3. Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park, California

Knott’s Berry Farm is a theme park located in southern California. The park offers an elephant ride as part of its “Camp Snoopy” ride.

4. Six Flags Great Adventure, Jackson, New Jersey

Six Flags Great Adventure is a theme park located in New Jersey. The park offers an elephant ride as part of its “safari” ride.

Moreover, the ride takes guests through a simulated Six Flags Great Adventure where they can see elephants, lions, and other animals.

Our top two picks are The Performing Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) in California and Elephant Sanctuary Hendersonville in Tennessee. Both locations offer opportunities to interact with elephants, such as rides, petting or even feeding them.

By Olivia Garcia

Olivia Garcia is originally from Texas. She fell in love with Elephants during a trip to Africa in the early 2010s, where she got to see these beautiful creatures up close. She spent a total of 6 months at the Desert Elephants Volunteer Project in Namibia, living amongst elephants.

Today, she lives with her husband and two kids in Texas. Olivia dreams about one day taking her kids to Africa to show them where she fell in love with elephants!

I love elephants and would love to feed and interact with them…

My Grandfather was the founder of The Duluth Zoo know known as the Lake Superior Zoo in Minnesota. We had an Elephant. Her name was Bessie. We all loved her. I am honoring my Grandad by writing a children’s book about Him and Bessie. That was long ago. During the Great Depression that out of love he did this for the community. Is it possible I could get up close to one of the elephants with out the fence? I need to get a good picture to go into the book. My dream has been to play with a baby elephant and interact with these wonderful loving creatures. Bessie is long gone but my memories of her are alive and well. I loved her so much. I live in Scottsdale Arizona. Do you have a sanctuary near me? Lynn Perry

What a great story and what a way to honor your grandfather! I’m sure he’d be incredibly proud. We do not own nor operate sanctuaries, we simply love to visit them. I believe the closest one to you would be at the Reid Park Zoo.

Best of luck with the book, please send us a link to support when you’ve published!

Is there an elephant sanctuary that allows humans to touch them? Tennessee says it does allow touching, then further down the article it says no contact.

Cage The Elephant Announce 45-Date North American Summer Tour Kicks Off On June 20th and New Album, Neon Pill, Out On May 17 Via Rca Records

Facebook icon

SHARE NEW SONG “ OUT LOUD ”

Today, Cage The Elephant, the GRAMMY® Award winning rock band mark their return and announce both the release of their forthcoming sixth studio album, Neon Pill (May 17, RCA Records) and their 45-date North American summer tour. The new album finds the Kentucky-bred six piece—brothers Matthew Shultz [vocals] and Brad Shultz [guitar], Daniel Tichenor [bass], Jared Champion [drums], Nick Bockrath [lead guitar], and Matthan Minster [guitar, keys, backing vocals]— forging new musical ground, while maintaining their uncompromising creativity and wildly cathartic performances. “To me, Neon Pill is the first record where we were consistently uninfluenced, and I mean that in a positive way,” observes Matthew. “Everything is undoubtedly expressed through having settled into finding our own voice. We’ve always drawn inspiration from artists we love, and at times we’ve even emulated some of them to a certain degree. With this album, having gone through so much, life had almost forced us into becoming more and more comfortable with ourselves. We weren’t reaching for much outside of the pure experience of self expression, and simultaneously not necessarily settling either. We just found a uniqueness in simply existing.” The album is available to pre-order on all formats here .

Cage The Elephant’s 45-date North American US tour , produced by Live Nation, will kick off on June 20 in Salt Lake City with shows in cities including Seattle, Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York City (full dates below), with support from Young The Giant & Bakar on most dates.  Tickets and VIP available for all dates will go on sale to the general public on Friday, March 8th at 10am local here , and numerous presales, including for the band’s Fan Club, Discord, and Spotify followers will begin on Tuesday, March 5th  at 10am local time. For all Canadian dates, American Express® Card Members can purchase tickets before the general public beginning Tuesday, March 5 at 10am local time through Thursday, March 7 at 10pm local time.

From their humble beginnings in Bowling Green, Kentucky, Cage The Elephant have gone on to become one of the generation’s premier rock bands. They have earned dozens of Gold, Platinum, and Multiplatinum certifications, tallied over 5 billion streams, and notched ten #1 records on Alternative Radio and 5 #1 records on Triple A Radio. Their previous two albums Tell Me I’m Pretty [2015] and Social Cues [2019] garnered consecutive Best Rock Album GRAMMY® Awards. They are maybe most celebrated for their live show. The stage is their home turf, where they are most comfortable, and their performances, ecstatic and unchained, as well as cathartic and soul bearing are what Neon Pill achieves in documenting.

Neon Pill, produced by John Hill, materialized during sessions at Sonic Ranch in El Paso, Electric Lady in New York, Sound Emporium in Nashville, Echo Mountain in North Carolina, and at Hill’s own studio in Los Angeles, and alchemized a season of tragedy and turbulence into the twelve tracks on their sixth full-length album. Nine months  into the pandemic, Matthew and Brad lost their father. The band weathered the back-to-back deaths of friends, while Matthew experience depression and a mental breakdown, culminating in hospitalization. Coming out on the other side, he learned quite a bit about himself, and gained a whole lot of strength and wisdom. Neon Pill came to life in the eye of the storm.

Today, the band share their new song, “ Out Loud ” the emotional centerpiece of Neon Pill . Backed by stark piano, Matthew’s bare delivery quakes as he sings, “Man, I really messed up now . ”   “Maybe it’s so straightforward and honest, because I didn’t know if it would see the light of day,” he admits. “‘Out Loud’ is very connected to my father. My dad’s the reason we discovered music in the first place. When he died, ‘Out Loud’ just poured out of me. My efforts towards the song were deeply rooted in paying honor to him, and I knew it meant a lot to Brad too,” he remarks. That, also in connection with the difficulties that I was dealing with at that time. It was almost a subconscious apology of sorts before I was fully capable of grasping the gravity of it all. Subconsciously working through it while channeling all of the adversity my family faced growing up coming full circle into my adult life in this one song.” The release of this song follows the latest single, “Neon Pill.” Listen to it here .

About Cage The Elephant

Since forming in 2006, Cage The Elephant have quietly bloomed as one of this generation’s premier rock bands buoyed by uncompromising creativity and wildly cathartic performances. Thus far, they have earned dozens of Gold, Platinum, and Multi Platinum certifications, tallied 5 billion streams and counting, and notched ten #1 records on Alternative Radio and 5 #1 records on Triple A Radio. The guys consecutively garnered two GRAMMY® Awards in the category of “Best Rock Album” for both Tell Me I’m Pretty [2015] and Social Cues [2019]. Of the latter, Entertainment Weekly raved, “The album’s introspection paired with its urgent energy make Cage The Elephant sound more passionate than ever.” In the meantime, their music has also surged through popular culture as “Cigarette Daydreams” graced the soundtrack of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 blockbuster video game, “Goodbye” appeared in The Summer I Turned Pretty , and “Trouble” powered a global campaign for Amazon Prime. Plus, they’re the rare force of nature who can inspire millions of TikTok creates or hold their own on stage with Dave Grohl and duet with Iggy Pop and Beck. The Kentucky-bred six-piece instinctually lean on their enduring bond as both musicians and friends to get through anything and everything. Together, the band members make sense of life’s unpredictability and uncertainty via music. Moments of elation might take the form of sticky hooks, swaggering rhythms, or upbeat guitars, while tense riffs and jittery grooves could give shape to feelings of anxiety, doubt, or instability. As such, the group fearlessly alchemize a season of tragedy and turbulence into the twelve tracks on their sixth full-length album, Neon Pill [RCA Records].

Bathing with elephant is amazing

Ketut Sutama is the best driver we ever had. About the story the fact that he is a professional which means kind, on time, well informed etc. He was really helpful and friendly. He explained everything to us about Balinese culture, religion, history, So we enjoyed being on the board with him. He take us the to Bali Pulina plantation for coffee, so we got to see the rice fields as well. Las but not least we would say thank you for the fantastic experience he offered to us. A fabulous ride at Bali Elephant Camp

Went to Elephant camp and it was raining. Had a Mahout named Long, he handed me an umbrella and he had a lovely cheeky, joking nature. I had a fabulous ride. The elephant I rode was named Cindy and she was 23 years old and we went for a small swim and walked along a lovely scenic route. Got some great photos. Had a lovely welcome drink and a Bali pancake, which was delicious. Did not wish for it to end. It was fabulous. Will go again. (Ride location at Bali Elephant Camp)

Interaction with the elephants was fantastic

The Elephant Safari Lodge was the highlight of our trip to Bali! I stayed two nights with my two boys, ages 10 and 14. Lodging, food and service was immaculate and the amount of interaction with the elephants was fantastic! The story of how the elephants were rescued from logging operations is beautiful (although I didn't feel good about the talent show - do we really need the elephants to perform tricks for us?). This is your chance to see Sumatran elephants, as they may be extinct in 10 years. (Location ride at Mason Elephant Park Taro)

Discover the Magic of countryside Temples with Our Siem Reap Elephant Tour – What to Expect

Siem Reap Elephant Tour with Temples: The Roluos Temple Group refers to a collection of temples located near the town of Roluos, about 13 km east of Siem Reap, nestled in the dense Cambodian countryside.

  • These temples are part of the Angkor-era and are considered some of the earliest permanent structures built by the Khmer civilization.
  • These temples date from the late 9th century and mark the starting point of Khmer civilization’s classical period.

The Beauty of Preah Ko Temple

Preah Ko Temple, the first temple built in the ancient city of Hariharalaya, is a sight to behold. It’s intricate carvings and serene atmosphere make it a must-visit.

As you explore this temple, you’ll feel a sense of tranquility that’s hard to put into words.

The Majesty of Bakong Temple

The Khmer Empire’s first sandstone temple mountain, Bakong Temple, is the next place we’ll take you.

Its architectural grandeur and historical significance make it a highlight of the tour.

As you climb the steps of this temple, you’ll be rewarded with stunning views that are worth every step.

The Charm of Chaw Srei Vibol Temple

Our tour also includes visiting Chaw Srei Vibol Temple, a less-visited but equally captivating temple.

Its peaceful surroundings and beautiful carvings make it a hidden gem. As you explore this temple, you’ll feel like an adventurer uncovering a secret part of Siem Reap’s history.

The Elephants of Kulen Forest Sanctuary

The Kulen Elephant Forest Sanctuary is without a doubt the highlight of our journey. You’ll get up close and personal with these magnificent creatures while learning about their tales and conservation efforts to safeguard them. You’ll feed them, accompany them on walks, and even take part in their bathing process. It’s an emotional encounter that will leave you with a newfound respect for these gentle giants.

To make the most of your 3 days Angkor Pass adventure, consider booking one of the unforgettable tours offered by MySiemReaptours . These tours provide a range of experiences, such as the Full-Day Angkor Wat Sunrise Tour , and the Private Siem Reap City Tour , which allows you to fully immerse yourself in the wonders of Siem Reap and off-the-beaten-path temples.

Step-by-Step Itinerary for the Siem Reap Elephant Tour

Your journey begins bright and early at 8:30 AM. Our private driver and tour guide will pick you up and whisk you away to your first destination: the enchanting Preah Ko Temple.

  • Visit Bakong Temple

Next, we’ll explore the grandeur of Bakong Temple. Marvel at the intricate carvings and architectural beauty of this ancient temple mountain.

  • Discover Chaw Srei Vibol Temple

Our temple tour continues with a visit to the lesser-known but equally captivating Chaw Srei Vibol Temple. Here, you’ll feel like an adventurer uncovering a secret part of Siem Reap’s history.

  • Savor a Traditional Khmer Lunch

After a morning of exploration, it’s time to refuel with a delicious Khmer lunch. Savor the flavors of traditional Cambodian cuisine as you prepare for the afternoon’s adventure.

  • Countryside Drive to Kulen Elephant Forest Sanctuary (1:00 PM)

Post-lunch, we’ll take a scenic drive through the picturesque Cambodian countryside, arriving at the Kulen Elephant Forest Sanctuary at around 1:00 PM.

At the sanctuary, you’ll have the unique opportunity to prepare healthy snacks for the elephants. Walk with them through the forest and even join them for a refreshing swim. It’s a heartwarming experience that will give you a deeper understanding of these gentle giants.

  • Sunset Picnic in the Wild

As the sun sets, we’ll find the perfect spot for a picnic. Enjoy a meal amidst nature as you watch the sky change colors with the setting sun.

  • Farewell to the Elephants and Return to Town

After a day filled with unforgettable experiences, it’s time to say goodbye to the elephants and head back to town. As you reflect on the day’s adventures, you’ll realize that you’ve not just been on a tour, but a journey that you’ll cherish forever.

Remain hydrated and use sunscreen: The environment in Cambodia may be hot and sunny, so remain hydrated and apply sunscreen frequently. Bring a reusable water bottle and a hat with a broad brim for further protection.

Videos show terrifying moment bull elephant lifts safari truck

The safari guide who warded off the elephant was praised by wildlife experts.

Frightened tourists can be seen ducking between seats during a tense standoff between a bull elephant and a safari truck in Pilanesberg National Park, South Africa.

Videos of Monday’s incident show a bull elephant lifting the 22-seat truck up several times with his trunk before letting it drop. The driver can be heard calling for the elephant to "go away" and slapping his hand against the side of the truck to scare away the animal.

Hendry Blom, a bystander who caught the incident on camera, told ABC News: "We were definitely scared, especially for the people in the truck because we thought they might die."

Another video from inside the truck shows frightened tourists cowering on the floor of the vehicle. One woman can be heard praying as the elephant approaches.

MORE: Global warming could increase risk of human-elephant conflict, researchers say

Poncho Mogodiri, field operations manager of Mankwe Game Trackers, the tour company involved in the incident, told ABC News the guide and guests were in animal hide when the bull elephant approached. "Hides provide you with the rare opportunity to unobtrusively view the wildlife and birds at close quarters," according to Pilanesberg National Park.

Mogodiri said some of the tourists "came too close to the elephant to take pictures and he started getting aggressive."

The guide's actions -- revving the engine, slamming car doors and shouting to ward the elephant away -- have been widely praised by wildlife experts. Mogodiri said the guide reacted "by the book."

"Anyone that’s worked with elephants will tell you when a bull like that charges, you don’t turn and run, you need to make as much noise and stand your ground," said Ron Magill, communications director at Zoo Miami.

Mogodiri confirmed the bull was in musth, or when an elephant "experiences an increase in reproductive hormones and becomes highly aggressive," according to the Pilanesberg National Park website.

No one was injured in the incident, though Mankwe Game Trackers told ABC News one family had been offered counseling after being left "extremely rattled." The Pilanesberg National Park said it will be conducting an internal investigation of the incident.
