Doja Cat

“I got drive, I don’t need a car.”

Doja Cat’s ‘Paint the Town Red’ Becomes Her Second Hot 100 No. 1, First Rap Leader in Over…

That line from the second verse of Doja Cat’s No. 1 Hot 100 single “Paint the Town Red” succinctly captures how determined she was to rev up the audience during the second stop on her first-ever headlining arena tour.

Kicking off with a sold-out evening at San Francisco’s Chase Center on Halloween (Oct. 31), Doja Cat’s The Scarlet Tour touched down at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena on Thursday night with opening act Doechii. The venue was packed from the floor all the way up to the rafters thanks to a fervently loyal fanbase whose colorful attire also spoke volumes about their feelings for the singer-songwriter.

Trending on Billboard

Divided into five acts, the 24-song setlist is primarily centered around  Scarlet.  In addition to “Paint the Town Red,” which received a rollicking response from the crowd, among the other album tracks that had fans in a frenzy were “Demons” (accompanied by a huge black spider hovering over her), “Shutcho,” “Ouchies,” and show closer “Wet Vagina.” But Doja Cat also reached back to 2021’s  Planet Her  to perform tracks including “Kiss Me More,” “Woman,” “Ain’t Shit” and “Need to Know” as well as “Say So” from 2019’s  Hot Pink  album.

Vocally strong throughout, Doja Cat agilely traversed between singing and rapping while effortlessly shifting from up to midtempo and ballad then back up again. Getting her dance on as well, including a little twerking, you could see that a confident Doja Cat was having fun — and eager to make sure her fans were too. Also complicit in keeping the audience on its feet and igniting a steady stream of screams and shout-outs (“Yes, girl!”; “You’re soooo good!”) were Doja Cat’s supple and sensuous dance crew, fire bursts and other special effects plus video screen graphics depicting such images as shattered glass and a female silhouette adorned with wings.

‘No more pop’: Doja Cat says her next album will be exclusively rap

Doja Cat announced her new album ‘Hellmouth’ will exclusively be rap and promised to ditch pop. She also teased some new song titles.

April 10, 2023

The tour will be in support of Doja Cat’s forthcoming album, which she has tentatively titled “Hellmouth.” The news also comes a week after Doja Cat released her latest single, “Attention.”

In April, the “Woman” artist revealed details about the upcoming album, posting a screenshot on Twitter of song files with the titles “Wet,” “Balut” and “Agora Hills.” She later added that the album will have “ 10 tracks total +5 extras.”

When one fan on Twitter asked her what genre the album would be, Doja Cat declared “rap only.” She later tweeted another bold pledge: “No more pop.”

“i also agree with everyone who said the majority of my rap verses are mid and corny. I know they are,” Doja Cat wrote in a follow-up tweet. “I wasnt trying to prove anything I just enjoy making music but I’m getting tired of hearing yall say that i can’t [rap] so I will. ... pop isnt exciting to me anymore. I dont wanna make it.”

In May 2022, the “Mooo!” rapper was forced to cancel her 2022 live dates after tonsil surgery.

“Hi guys, I wanted you to hear it from me first,” she wrote on her Instagram stories. “Unfortunately I have to have surgery on my tonsils ASAP. The surgery is routine but the recovery is going to take awhile due to swelling.

“That means I have to cancel my festival run this summer as well as The Weeknd tour. I feel horrible about this but can’t wait for this to heal and get back to making music and create an experience for y’all.”

GRAMMY award-winning global superstar Doja Cat made her first upload to Soundcloud in 2013 at just 16 years old . Having grown up in and around the LA area, she developed a knack for music by studying piano and dance as a kid and listening to the likes of Busta Rhymes, Erykah Badu, Nicki Minaj, Drake, and more. Signed to Kemosabe/RCA Records in 2014, she released her Purrr! EP and followed that with her debut album Amala in spring 2018, but it was her August 2018 release of “MOOO!” which catapulted her into the mainstream and was met with critical acclaim.

Doja Cat released her sophomore GRAMMY-nominated platinum album Hot Pink in November 2019 to mass critical acclaim; the album has garnered over 6 billion streams worldwide. GRAMMY award-winning “Kiss Me More” ft. SZA, the lead single off Planet Her is certified 5x platinum by the RIAA and hit #1 at Top 40 and Rhythm radio with over 2.2 billion streams worldwide. That fall, Doja Cat became the first rapper to have 3 songs in the Top 10 at Top 40 radio. Last year, “Woman” went to the top of the Billboard Rhythmic Airplay charts which ascended her to become the first women to have four #1 hits from one album, other hits including “You Right” with The Weeknd and “Need to Know.” She went on to land at #1 on the Billboard Artist 100 chart for the first time. Amongst others, Doja has won 5 AMAs, 5 Billboard Music Award, 3 MTV VMAs, 3 BMI Awards, 2 MTV EMAs, 1 GRAMMY Award and 1 NAACP Image Award along with garnering a total of 16 GRAMMY Award nominations. Here's everything to know about Doja Cat's upcoming 'Scarlet' tour.

Doja Cat Is Bringing Her Bloody Alter-Ego On Tour & Fans Are Shook

Openers include “it” girl rappers Ice Spice and Doechii.

Doja Cat just gave fans another iconic reason to “look at her.” On June 23, the rapper announced she’s embarking on her first all-arena tour. The news felt like a shock-drop, as Doja Cat told Elle in 2022 she wanted to take a break after releasing her fourth album . At the time, it seemed touring wasn’t in the cards for her. However, fast forward to today, and she’s bringing her sonic presence (and bloody alter-ego Scarlet) on the road.

Doja Cat first teased The Scarlet Tour on Twitter. There, she tweeted the tour’s name alongside a gnarly image of herself with red-painted lips. This could also be her aforementioned alternate Scarlet, whom she first introduced in her “Attention” music video on June 15. In the same post, Doja Cat also announced rappers Ice Spice and Doechii will join as openers. The 24-date tour (which will trek through North America) will begin in San Francisco, fittingly, on Halloween. She’ll then visit cities such as Miami, Las Vegas, Denver, Los Angeles, Houston, and Brooklyn before wrapping up in early December.

Doja Cat's The Scarlet Tour will star rappers Ice Spice and Doechii as openers.

Like many tours, the ticket-buying process for The Scarlet Tour will begin with advanced registration to filter out bots and scalpers. Fans can register on Ticketmaster now through June 25 at 10 p.m. PST. Once the registration ends, fans will be randomly selected to receive a code that’ll give them access to the presales, which start on June 28. A general sale (which will only have a limited number of tickets on Ticketmaster) will follow on June 30 at 10 a.m. local time.

This tour announcement startled fans, as Doja Cat hasn’t offered up much information about her new current era.

So far, the rapper has only released her single “Attention,” which is alleged to appear on her upcoming album. As for her new record, the lyricist dropped breadcrumbs about its direction and how it’ll lean more into the rap sphere. At one point, the performer hinted the album would be titled Hellmouth ; however, she backtracked and stated she nor her team have given the release a name.

While details about Doja Cat’s unnamed album are sparse, that can’t be said about her upcoming slate of shows. Here’s everything to know about her Scarlet Tour.

Doja Cat’s alter-ego tour will kick off in San Fransisco, California on Oct. 31, 2023.

What’s The Setlist For The Scarlet Tour?

Doja Cat hasn’t hinted what the tour’s setlist will be; however, it’s safe to assume she’ll perform “Attention” and other tracks from her upcoming album once it releases. She might also show love to her previous hit-making albums (2021’s Planet Her and 2019’s Hot Pink ), but fans should keep their hopes at bay for this theory. Recently, the rapper called both of those creations “cash grabs” and stated she wants to stray away from creating “mediocre pop” records.

Where To Buy Tickets For The Scarlet Tour

Fans can now partake in advanced registration on Ticketmaster through June 25 at 10 p.m. PST. Once the registration ends, fans will be randomly selected to receive a code that’ll give them access to the presales that start on June 28. Then, on June 30, a general sale (which will only have a limited number of tickets) will happen on Ticketmaster at 10 a.m. local time.

According to a press release, The Scarlet Tour will offer several VIP packages for fans to choose from. Packages will vary, but fans can expect certain experiences to include premium tickets, pre-show VIP Lounge access, specially designed VIP gift items, and more. Doja Cat's ‘The Scarlet Tour’ Is Taking Over US Arenas This Fall

And Ice Spice & Doechii are invited.

As Doja Cat states on her latest single “ Attention ”: “I coulda been an opener, I redirect the bookin’.” That’s in reference to The Weeknd’s massive 2022 After Hours Til Dawn stadium tour, which Doja Cat was scheduled to open, but later pulled out of to recover from tonsil surgery (or so she said). And just like that lyric, she’s redirected her bookings to announce her own massive headlining tour: The Scarlet Tour, where she will play her first-ever arena shows across the U.S. this fall.

This announcement has been a long time coming for fans, who over the last few years have only been able to experience the pop star live in festival settings or during awards show broadcasts, largely because she skyrocketed to fame during the pandemic. But those stages can barely be considered training grounds for the size and scale of the shows she has coming up.

On the Scarlet Tour , which runs from the end of October through early December, Doja Cat will take over iconic arenas like Los Angeles’ Crypto.com arena, Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, and more, which will have audience capacities of around 15,000. Compare that to her sole other headlining tour, the Amala Tour in 2018, where she played rooms of a few hundred to max 1,000 people — and one can see how high her star has climbed since then.

The Scarlet Tour will likely be in support of her new album, tentatively titled First of All and expected to drop sometime this year — probably before the kickoff date of October 31. From “Attention” alone, it’s already shaping up to mark a fierce new chapter for the pop star — one that will surely meet the expectations of those arena stages.

NEW YORK (AP) — Post Malone and Doja Cat, two of pop music’s biggest stars, will headline this year’s Global Citizen Festival in New York’s Central Park on Sept. 28, as organizers focus on mobilizing young people to help address the world’s pressing problems.

The COVID-19 pandemic erased years of progress the world had made toward ending extreme poverty and those setbacks have been compounded by the wars in Ukraine and Gaza and complicated by climate change, said Global Citizen CEO Hugh Evans. He estimates that about 10% of the world’s population now lives in extreme poverty and the United Nations expects 575 million people will be at that level in 2030, despite long-term plans to eradicate it.

“In the very environment where we need more ambition, we are seeing many nations step back,” Evans told The Associated Press. “That’s why we know our work is more urgent than ever and why we’re so thrilled that the world’s greatest artists are stepping up at a time when they’re absolutely needed.”

Global Citizen has long partnered with major artists – from Beyonce and Jay-Z to Queen, Stevie Wonder to Ed Sheeran – to generate attention that it can turn into audience actions that lobby political, corporate and philanthropic leaders to support its initiatives. The nonprofit says its events in the past decade have generated more than $14 billion toward eliminating extreme poverty.

Evans said this year’s headliners have an important connection to young people, who are essential to changing how leaders react to current needs.

“There’s a reason why brand managers spend so much time speaking to that 16-to-30-year-old demographic -- the major trendsetters of the next 40 years,” Evans said. “Young people have the power to create enormous change when they band together.”

Malone embodies that sentiment in his current music. His current single “Pour Me a Drink” is a duet with Blake Shelton. And so far this year, he has also teamed up with Taylor Swift, Beyonce and Morgan Wallen.

Doja Cat, currently on a European tour promoting her hit “Scarlet” album, is also known for her collaborations.

“We all have a part we can play to help end extreme poverty and stand up for equity,” Doja Cat said in a prepared statement. “I’m looking forward to being part of this major evening of positive change.”

Tickets for the festival, which will also include sets from country star Jelly Roll and Puerto Rican singer and rapper Rauw Alejandro, are free. But they require taking action on the festival website to “defeat poverty, defend the planet, or demand equity” – generally involving writing to global leaders or posting on social media.

Global Citizen is working to convince countries to increase their contributions to the World Bank’s International Development Association, the fund dedicated to raising the standard of living in the world’s 75 lowest-income countries.

Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema said the timing of the campaign is critical. “As our worst agricultural season in over 40 years takes hold, our nation and our neighbours are facing dire food shortages and severe instability in our power supply,” he said in a prepared statement. “The participation of the world’s wealthy nations in this replenishment is not just generosity — it is life or death for millions experiencing the worst impacts of climate change.”

This year, Global Citizen is also focusing on in-person activities around New York to introduce young people to volunteering in order to receive festival tickets. It has partnered with Black Surfing Rockaway to clean up Rockaway Beach and nonprofits like The Bowery Mission and Citymeals on Wheels to work with new volunteers.

“It’s a low-data entry point for those who want to take action,” Evans said. “It’s an initiative we’ve done across Ghana. We did it in South Africa as part of a big cleanup. It also educates Global Citizens about food insecurity and other needs in New York.”

The 10 best artists to see at BST Hyde Park this summer, from Stevie Nicks and Gary Clark Jr. to AlienBlaze and Kylie

The annual British Summer Time festival returns to London's largest Royal Park from this weekend. Here are our recommended picks of the 2024 line-up

Stevie Nicks, Gary Clark Jr, AlienBlaze, Kylie

Given the insane amount of hype and endless sycophantic media coverage which precedes it, you might possibly be aware that the world's most self-regarding music festival starts today. It's not, however, the only music event in the UK this weekend, for the annual BST Hyde Park festival season kicks off tonight in London's largest Royal Park, with headline attractions including SZA, Kings Of Leon , Robbie Williams, Shania Twain , Stevie Nicks, Kylie Minogue and more, plus full supporting bills. Here's our guide to 10 of the best artists playing BST over the next three weekends, with not a single hippy or 'Free Hugs For Global Peace!' placard in sight.

Louder line break

It's entirely possible that you might not realise quite what a big deal Solána Imani Rowe is, but, if not, the fact that her most recent record, 2022's SOS, topped the US Billboard 200 chart for 10 weeks, and that the 34-year-old singer/songwriter is headlining BST (on June 29) and closing Glastonbury in the same weekend tells its own story. Features with Drake, Travis Scott, Kendrick Lamar and Doja Cat are an indication of the esteem in which the St. Louis-born R&B star is held among her peers, but with new album Lana on the horizon, this weekend will go a long way to affording SZA the full glare of the spotlight she deserves.

Stevie Nicks

A true legend, Stevie Nicks needs no introduction. Fleetwood Mac's vocalist has cut a singular presence in the music business for five decades, the timeless quality of her music meaning that artists from Miley Cyrus to Hole and Smashing Pumpkins have covered her songs. Nicks' most recent set-list, on tour with Billy Joel, included Stop Draggin' My Heart Around , Gold Dust Woman , Dreams , Rhiannon , Landslide and more, and her return to London to headline BST on July 12 (with Brandi Carlile and Anna Calvi on the supporting bill) promises to be a special night.

Black Grape

Billed, for possibly the first time ever, as Shaun Ryder 's Black Grape, presumably to bolster name recognition for those more familiar with the singer's appearances on I'm A Celebrity ... and Gogglebox than his fabulous work with The Happy Mondays, the Mancunian party-starters are an impressively left-field choice to support enduring English pop superstar Robbie Williams. The band's debut album, It's Great When You're Straight...Yeah , is a '90s indie rock classic, and this year's Orange Head record finds Ryder and his mate Kermit in equally irrepressible form. Quite what the hen parties will make of it all is anyone's guess.

Kings Of Leon

King Of Leon's visits to the UK haven't always made headlines for the right reasons , but the Followill 'boys' are apparently in a good place now, and having titled their current album Can We Please Have Fun this seems like an ideal opportunity for the Nashville quartet to serve up some Southern comfort (and the odd rebel yell) on a warm summer's night. Expect the singalong to Sex On Fire to drown out any rendition of Three Lions on Sunday evening, even if Gareth Southgate's team also belatedly rediscover their form.

For those who like their punk rock wrapped in the warm, comforting blanket of nostalgia, Green Day are revisiting their Dookie and American Idiot albums at Wembley Stadium this weekend.  But for those who prefer their punk with genuine bite, and street-level resonance, there's The Meffs, supporting Kings Of Leon on June 30, previewing songs from their forthcoming Frank Turner-produced What A Life album, set for release on NOFX mainman Fat Mike's Fat Wreck Chords on September 24. Turner describes the album as "a fucking beast" so it's high time you were introduced.

The last few years have not been easy for Soft Play (the artists formerly known as Slaves) for both personal and professional reasons, so  Isaac Holman and Laurie Vincent will be looking to let off some serious steam at BST, supporting Robbie Williams. With the release of Heavy Jelly , the duo's first album in six years, just around the corner (July 19), Soft Play will be aiming to remind everyone exactly why they had a reputation as one of Britain's best live bands before unavoidable and unfortunate challenges derailed their momentum, starting now.

That AlienBlaze does not lack confidence was indicated from the moment she described her 2023 single Not Yours Never Was “as if Tchaikovsky wanted to write a rock or alt.pop song”. The first UK artist signed to Sumerian Records, also home to the likes of Poppy, Bad Omens and Kittie, as with fellow nu gen trailblazers Cassyette and Bambie Thug, the singer/guitarist (aka Alicia Moore) has the songwriting skills to transcend genres, and a desire to push rock music forward. Performing for open-minded K-Pop fans at Stray Kids' July 14 BST show should be a chance to broaden her fan-base even further.

Gary Clark Jr

Classic Rock has described Gary Clark Jr.'s current album JPEG RAW as " one of the best albums you'll hear this year " and " the best album of his career ", and bearing in mind that his last album, This Land , scored three Grammy Awards wins, that's high praise. A gifted multi-instrumentalist and one of the finest blues guitarists of his generation, Clark has collaborated with legends such as Stevie Wonder and George Clinton, and this could be the year in which he crosses over to become a mainstream 'face' in his own right. Supporting Kings Of Leon at BST in front of 60,000 people won't hurt.

Dea Matrona

For Your Sins , the debut album from Belfast's Dea Matrona, is a wonderfully accomplished piece of modern rock, flitting across genres lines, while serving up some killer bluesy riffs and gorgeously addictive vocals on songs such as So Damn Dangerous , Stamp On It and Wilderness. Years honing their craft in Irish clubs mean Orláith Forsythe and Mollie McGinn are a formidable live band too, so playing alongside the likes of The Corrs and Natalie Imbruglia in support to pop-country queen Shania Twain on July 7 will be an excellent opportunity to raise their profile.

At this point we could attempt some lame justification for including Kylie in this list, perhaps pointing to her 1995 duet with Nick Cave on Where The Wild Roses Grow , or her Manic Street Preachers co-write Some Kind Of Bliss (1997), but come on, who doesn't love Kylie? Who would want to live in a Minogue-less world? Not us. We're not being ironic when we say that Tension was one of 2023's finest albums, and if you think there's more fun to be had in any field in England than one in which you can hear Spinning Around , Slow , Can't Get You Out Of My Head , Padam Padam , and Confide In Me in quick succession you are, with all due respect, mistaken.

The performers join a long list that already includes Will Smith and Ice Spice

Leon Bennett/Getty, Aliah Anderson/Getty, Jason Mendez/Getty

Culture's biggest night just got bigger!

BET announced on Friday, June 28, that six performers have been added to the list of live performances at the 2024 BET Awards airing Sunday night, June 30: Chlöe , Childish Gambino (a.k.a. Donald Glover), Keke Palmer , Summer Walker, Marsha Ambrosius and Coco Jones .

The stars will join a list of performers that already includes Tyla  and  Ice Spice , Ms. Lauryn Hill  and  her son, YG Marley , and rising country star Tanner Adell , the network previously announced .

Daniel DeSlover/ZUMA / SplashNews.com

The network previously announced that R&B legend  Usher  will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award  in honor of his "ever-growing musical legacy" live at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday night. A tribute performance comes along with the honor, though the singers who will honor the "Burn" singer with his own songs have yet to be announced.

Taraji P. Henson will host the awards ceremony for the third year in a row and will be joined on stage by presenters like Andra Day , Colman Domingo , Niecy Nash-Betts and DC Young Fly .

Ayisha Collins/FilmMagic

But one of the biggest performances of the night will undoubtedly be the return of Will Smith to the live music stage.

The network announced on Monday that the Grammy winner will perform his first new solo song in five years at the BET Awards.

"The performances are going to blow us all away. We got Will Smith, guys. I am so excited to see what he has up his sleeve," Henson, 53, said of the  Bad Boys: Ride or Die star, 55.
