Dave Matthews Band Announces 40-Show 2021 North American Summer Tour

The Dave Matthews Band has announced the dates for its rescheduled summer 2021 tour, which is slated to kick off on July 23 in Raleigh, N.C.

The Dave Matthews Band announced the dates for its rescheduled summer 2021 tour on Thursday (April 22), which is slated to kick off on July 23 in Raleigh, N.C., at the Coastal Credit Union Music Park at Walnut Creek. The revamped run will include a series of two-night stands in West Palm Beach, Chicago, Noblesville (Ind.), Gilford (N.H.), Irvine (Calif.) and Saratoga Springs (N.Y.). Tickets are available online here .

Among the bands joining DMB at their annual Gorge Amphitheatre three-day Labor Day (Sept. 3-5) run are Dumpstaphunk and Allen Stone, Robert Randolph and the Family Band and Mavis Staples. The announcement on Earth Day included information on DMB re-booting their original 2020 tour plan to plant one million trees, which will have them planting another million trees after fully funding their original pledge last year.

Working with DocuSign and Dreaming Tree Wines, the band is inviting fans to add an optional $2 to their ticket price to plant a tree through the Nature Conservancy as part of the organization’s Plant a Billion Campaign . In another green effort, DMB said they will be neutralizing the carbon footprint of fan travel to shows by working with REVERB to support carbon reduction projects.

Dave Matthews Band Bust Out “Time Bomb” in Charlotte

On Friday night, Dave Matthews Band pulled through Charlotte, N.C., for a gig at PNC Music Pavilion. The high energy performance was capped with a “Time Bomb” closer; the tune was busted out for the first time with a full band since 2018. 

“Funny the Way It Is” kicked off the night in the Old North State. The band delivered “One Sweet World,” complete with a “Swim Naked” outro for their follow-up to the night’s opener. “Where Are You Going” and “The Only Thing” were played next, ahead of “Sweet.”

The single set performance continued with a lengthy take on “Crush,” which featured layers of Stevie Wonder’s “Sir Duke” courtesy of bassist Stefan Lessard. “Samurai Cop (Oh Joy Begin)” followed before the band unleashed “Granny” and “So Damn Lucky.” 

“Can’t Stop” and “Lover Lay Down” came before a segued paring of “Dancing Nancies” and “Warehouse.” Next, they played “Walk Around the Moon” and “Grace Is Gone.” The band continued with an extended take on “Jimi Thing” with a taste of Sly & The Family Stone to finish off the tune. Finally, the set came to a close with 2018’s “She” and “Two Step,” which included a preview of the final encore of the evening. 

After a brief break, Dave Matthews Band returned to the stage to deliver a pairing of tunes as their encore. They played two songs off their 2009 LP, Big Whiskey & the GrooGrux King ; the first was “Why I Am,” followed by show finisher and evening bust out, “Time Bomb,” last performed by Dave Matthews Band on Aug. 24, 2018.

The band continued their tour last night in Atlanta. They stopped by Cellairis Amphitheatre at Lakewood for an 19-song single-set performance that featured fan favorites, a handful of jammed-out interpolations and a Carter Beauford solo intro on set closer “Ants Marching.” The band concluded the show with a segued pairing of “Time Bomb” and “Warehouse.” Next up, Dave Matthews Band will travel to Tampa, Fla., for a one-night stand at MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Amphitheatre.

Dave Matthews Band's wild Rock & Roll Hall of Fame journey

D ave Matthews Band has performed in Northeast Ohio seven times over the past decade — but this concert will be its first as a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame act.

Driving the news: DMB brings its 2024 summer tour to Blossom Music Center at 7:30pm Tuesday.

The intrigue: The band will be inducted into the Rock Hall during a ceremony at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse on Oct. 19.

Flashback: Dave Matthews Band was first nominated in 2020 and won the annual fan vote .

• Yes, but: The band became the first artist to win that vote and not earn induction since the online poll debuted in 2012.

State of play: DMB waited four years for its next nomination this past February and are now the first artist to win the fan survey a second time with nearly 600,000 votes.

What they're saying: "Dave Matthews Band is honored to be in the Rock Hall Class Of 2024," the band wrote on X .

Dave Matthews Band will make one of its many visits to the Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy for two shows, Friday and Saturday nights.

Here's what to know about the concerts:

When are the Dave Matthews Band concerts at Alpine Valley?

Both shows begin at 7 p.m. and feature an opening act. On Friday, Katie Pruitt will open; on Saturday, it'll be Michael Marcagi.

Where is Alpine Valley?

The music theatre's address is 2699 County Road D in East Troy, nestled between Elkhorn and East Troy.

The amphitheater can host up to 37,000 fans, with 7,500 in the sheltered seating area and a large lawn area accommodating the rest.

The venue has hosted a series of iconic shows during its nearly 50 years of operation, though it did go dark for the 2017 season and was sold to a publicly held company in 2019.

Its rotating cast of regulars have included acts catering to the "jam band" crowd, including DMB, Phish, the Zac Brown Band, Dead & Company and Jimmy Buffett.

Can I get tickets for the Dave Matthews Band concerts at Alpine Valley?

You can still get tickets to see Dave Matthews Band, with ample offerings starting at $68 for a lawn seat through the Live Nation ticket portal . You can also buy a two-day lawn pass for $111.75 before fees.

When was the last time Dave Matthews Band was in Milwaukee?

The band regularly visits the area, most recently last summer (June 29, 2023) at Summerfest, but it routinely makes trips to Alpine Valley. Setlist.fm indicates DMB has played 37 shows at the venue, dating to 1998.

The band last came to Alpine Valley July 2 and 3, 2022, and also played two shows at Alpine Valley in 2019, 2016, 2015, 2013, 2012 and every year from 2002 to 2010. Plus twice more in 2000 and 1999, when the band played both Summerfest and Alpine Valley. DMB also came to Summerfest in 2021, 2018 and 2014.

Saturday might be the biggest Milwaukee music day ever

The band's shows will play Friday, June 21 and Saturday, June 22, playing concurrently with Summerfest on Milwaukee's lakefront. But that's not all; on Saturday, Kenny Chesney and Zac Brown Band will play at American Family Field , and the Tacos and Tequila Festival will take place in Franklin.

It has an argument for the biggest Milwaukee live-music day … ever.

Expect traffic jams at Alpine Valley for the Dave Matthews Band concerts

Isolated in the rolling hills of East Troy, Alpine Valley is a special place to see a show. It also has a reputation for bad traffic. The drive for the last two miles into the Alpine lots can last a full hour before a sold-out show.

On the bright side, parking is free.

Consider bringing some rain gear to the Dave Matthews Band concerts at Alpine Valley

According to the National Weather Service, the East Troy area has a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms Friday, mainly before 9 p.m. On Saturday, there's a 90% chance of rain and more opportunity for afternoon thunderstorms.
