Post-Punk Legends The Chameleons to Embark on UK, Europe and USA Tour This Summer

The tour will take them to cities like London, Edinburgh, Paris and Berlin, before heading over to the US later in Fall. 

The Chameleons, featuring original members Mark Burgess and Reg Smithies, have announced a series of UK and European shows this summer, along with a full USA tour this autumn alongside The Mission and Theatre of Hate. This news has been eagerly awaited by fans of the band, who have been craving the chance to see them live again in this setup.

Formed in Manchester, England in 1981, The Chameleons quickly became one of the most important and influential bands of the post-punk era. Their sound was characterized by atmospheric guitars, intricate rhythms, and introspective lyrics.Despite the fact that they were never as commercially successful as some of their peers, such as Joy Division or The Smiths, their music has continued to resonate with fans over the years. Many of their albums, such as “Script of the Bridge” and “Strange Times”, are considered classics of the post-punk genre, and their influence can be heard in the music of countless bands that have followed in their footsteps.

Looking back on The Chameleons’ legacy, it’s clear that their influence has only grown over the years. Their music has become a touchstone for fans of alternative and post-punk music, and their unique sound continues to inspire new generations of musicians. In many ways, The Chameleons were ahead of their time, and their music still sounds as fresh and innovative today as it did over thirty years ago.

The band’s upcoming tour will take them to cities throughout the UK and Europe, including London, Edinburgh, Paris, and Berlin, among others. Then, in the autumn, they will embark on a full USA tour alongside The Mission and Theatre of Hate, hitting cities from coast to coast. 

This tour offers the perfect opportunity to discover their timeless sound and experience the energy and passion of their live shows. So, for those lucky enough to attend one of The Chameleons’ upcoming shows, prepare to be transported back in time to the golden age of post-punk, and to experience the magic of one of the most legendary bands of the era.

Savage Party & Ripping Headaches Presents The Mission UK & Chameleons Theatre Of Hate

The Mission UK

In late 1985 Wayne Hussey and Craig Adams left The Sisters Of Mercy and formed The Mission and in early 1986 embarked on the ir first European tour, supporting The Cult. They released 2 singles independently, both reaching No.1 in the UK alternative charts, before signing a worldwide record deal with Phonogram (now Universal).

During this period, The Mission enhanced their reputation as one of the best and most exciting live bands in the world winning countless accolades, and inspiring both lurid media stories and a fanatical following as they toured constantly including highlights like seven sold out consecutive shows at the Astoria Theatre in London, headlining the famous Reading Festival twice, and also playing with U2, The Cure and Robert Plant.

Hi, I’m Mark Burgess, lead vocalist and bassist from The Chameleons (UK) currently ChameleonsVox based in the UK. I’ve been performing and recording music for most of my life. In fact over the last 18 months I toured more widely then ever before playing shows across the United States, China, Australia and practically every country across Europe. Everywhere I go I’m passionately encouraged to continue making music and to continue touring. Future plans include further worldwide performances with ChameleonsVox, including a joint tour next year with Kirk Brandon’s Theatre of Hate; A new Mark Burgess record that I’ve been compiling new song ideas and arrangements for along with solo performances of some of that material and additional material from other side projects, including The Sun And The Moon, The Sons of God, Invincible etc; and a sequel to my first book ‘View From A Hill’ that came out some years back. However these plans can only come to fruition with your direct support. Thanks for reading this, and for supporting my work by way of the records, concert tickets and tour merchandise over the years and I hope to see you somewhere down the road. Peace.

Theatre of Hate

In 1980, Kirk Brandon formed Theatre Of Hate from the ashes of heralded punk band The Pack. Joining Kirk on vocals were notable punk musicians Stan Stammers and Luke Rendall, along with old school friend, Steve Guthrie and Canadian born John “Boy” Lennard, who revolutionised the band’s sound with his haunting sax lines.

Theatre Of Hate’s debut double-A-side single, “Legion”/”Original Sin”, topped the independent chart in 1980, and “Westworld”, their debut album, produced by Mick Jones from The Clash and released in 1982, held the number one position for 21 weeks. The single taken from the album, “Do You Believe In The Westworld?” has become an anthem and is still widely played in clubs and on international radio, as well as featuring on numerous compilation albums.

Supporting the likes of The Clash & Ian Dury lead to Theatre Of Hate headlining major venues across the UK & Northern Europe.

Theatre Of Hate imploded in 1982, with Kirk taking Stan forward to form Spear Of Destiny, but the band has resurfaced over the years to play some very special shows.

Having been asked by John Curd to join The Damned for a massive show at London’s infamous Roundhouse in December 2014 the band once again joined the fray. A short set of dates around the London anchor show attracted rave reviews, as did a 6 night night SOLD OUT run in December 2014. (see reviews below)

2015 saw the band play two short jaunts across the UK in April and December both sets of dates wowed large crowds.

During touring in 2014 and 2015 the band constantly recorded at Oxygen Studios in Manchester, the first new studio album in 30+ years is now complete and released via a private pledge! ‘Kinshi’ was released on October 14th 2016 on CD, Vinyl, Download & Dub to pledgers. The 12 brand new songs are simply stunning. 2018 is looking like a very busy year with the album getting labels releases in Europe & the USA. Shows in the UK, Europe and the USA are already on sale.

Kirk, Stan and John will be joined by current Spear Of Destiny band member Adrian Portas (New Model Army) on guitar and Chris Bell (Hugh Cornwall) on drums to pay homage to the iconic TOH sound.
