Best way to spend three days in Bermuda!

We can’t wait to go back to Bermuda and look forward to taking another Celebrity cruise to get us there.

Bermuda cruise

Jun 6th, 2024

The cruise was smooth sailing with very nice staff on board. Food was very good. The room was very nice. I just felt the ship was dated in the decor. Chairs in the dining room & around ship showed a lot of wear too. Probably wouldn’t take the Eclipse again.

Great ship, great itinerary

Jun 5th, 2024

The ship is in amazing shape but still needs to take some time off for a refresh of public areas and staterooms. It is long overdue. I did have to reassemble a drawer in my room in order to use it. The room itself is very well laid out and the bed was far larger than I expected. The extra large balcony was huge and high and allowed me time arrive from jurassic park out in the public areas. Most of the passengers are not just "older" they are "old." That is okay, but be aware that Celebrity itself knows that and programs towards it. The majority of your meals will be okay, but there will be a distinct lack of things that the elderly do not like, like salt, seasoning, and apparently high temperature. Do not leave at the last minute for something because you will be slowed down by folks with walkers and their old kids running interference for them. And this being a cruise out of New York/New Jersey (no real difference) the majority of folks will be from there, so set your expectations for that behavior. So in short, get a balcony and have no guilt about using it. When you come out, the ship and the amazing crew will take care of you.

Wonderful Cruise to Bermuda for 3 days.

Relaxing, wonderful cruise. Nice ship, excellent service, great food, another terrific Celebrity Cruise.

Nice itinerary

The itinerary was nice, but I prefer Carnival. Celebrity was uptight.

Fabulous cruise set up by JJ from Cheap Cruises .com

One of the best cruises we've taken

May 29th, 2024

We'd do it again. The service on board was excellent. This includes cabin stewards, waitstaff in main dining and buffet. They need more staff for drinks in theater, wait was a bit long. Food on board was some of the best we've had while cruising both in main dining and buffet. A great change. Must be the head chef and staff. Thank you all

Peaceful and enjoyable

May 25th, 2024

It was a good cruise and nice to have people our age mostly.

Fully enjoyed our vacation but felt this was a dull cruise. It held a much older crowd. (70-80) year olds

May 23rd, 2024

Fully enjoyed the vineyard and Bermuda. The ship was beautiful but old. It attracts a much older crowd

5 Perfectly Dreamy Cruises to Bermuda

Whether you want to spend several days just relaxing in and around bermuda or love the idea of combining the north atlantic island with nearby coastal destinations, there’s a perfect bermuda cruise for you..

The beautiful beaches and charming cities of Bermuda are closer than you might think.

Often confused as part of the Caribbean , Bermuda stands alone with its strong British heritage, world-famous regattas, and quintessential pink sands. The closest landmass off the coast of North Carolina, this small North Atlantic Island is not a far jaunt from the East Coast but feels a world away, which makes it a singular cruise destination.

A hallmark of any Bermuda cruise is time in the destination. Unlike other cruise itineraries, where you might pop off the ship for a couple of hours, sailings to Bermuda almost always include one or two overnights in port. This lets travelers get to know the island at a slightly more relaxed pace. Visitors have the option to head farther afield from where they’re docked, dine in a restaurant ashore, or experience a little local nightlife.

If you’re considering an ocean voyage to the cerulean shores of Bermuda, these cruises showcase five unique ways to sail there in style.

A quick getaway from Manhattan on Virgin Voyages

To book: Virgin’s 5-night Big Apple to Bermuda itinerary is priced from $2,340 per cabin

Yes, you can squeeze a full Bermudian vacation into only five nights if you sail round trip from New York City. Virgin Voyages, known for its adults-only policy and PTO-friendly cruises, offers a Big Apple to Bermuda itinerary for those who are short on time but not standards. Docked just shy of 24 hours in King’s Wharf, passengers are set free in the center of a six-acre complex known as the Royal Naval Dockyard. Surprisingly, this tourist hub does not feel tacky. Cruise passengers can take in architecture like the picturesque clocktower, some stellar shopping (don’t leave without a rum cake) and lunch at a decades’ old favorite, the Frog & Onion Pub. From here, the quickest way to Hamilton, the capital city, is a 20-minute ferry ride. Back aboard Virgin’s 2,762-passenger Brilliant Lady , “sailors” can expect edgy entertainment like an absurdist dance party with rave vibes called the “Untitled Dance Show Partything” and more than 20 appealing eateries—all included in the fare.

One week with Oceania Cruises featuring a stop in Rhode Island

To book: Oceania Cruises’ 7-night Bermudian Breeze voyage starts at $1,699 per person

Three of the eight days of this Oceania voyage are spent docked in Bermuda, which is nearly half the cruise. The 670-passenger Insignia is small enough to dock in downtown Hamilton, the centrally located capital, bringing you straight into the heart of the city. After two full nights, the ship repositions to the historic former capital of St. George at the northern end of the island for a full day spent strolling its cottage-lined cobblestone streets, fragrant with frangipani. What sets this sailing apart—aside from Oceania’s knack for culinary excellence—is a day spent in Newport, Rhode Island, on your way from New York to Bermuda. Home to splendid Gilded Age mansions, Newport displays its opulence best at the Breakers, former home of the Vanderbilt family. A tour along the dramatic Cliff Walk is a must, offered as an optional shore excursion through Oceania.

Bermuda plus Charleston and Martha’s Vineyard on Celebrity

To book: Celebrity Cruises’ 10-day Bermuda & Charleston starts at $1,388 per person

Celebrity Cruises runs a series of weeklong sailings from Cape Liberty, New Jersey, to Bermuda and back. But for those who have a few extra days, go for Celebrity’s Bermuda & Charleston itinerary. Not only does this cruise tack on an overnight in Charleston, South Carolina, to its 48 hours in Bermuda, but it also includes a call on famed summer enclave Martha’s Vineyard. Ashore, you’ll be up to your eyeballs in charming shops and shaded squares, but back aboard, there is still plenty that will impress. The 2,886-passenger Celebrity Silhouette seamlessly blends the outdoors into its ambience with private balconies in 85 percent of its rooms, plus the Lawn Club, a live grass lawn on the top of the ship for an impromptu picnic or game of bocce.

An epic Lesser Antilles sailing on Regent Seven Seas

To book: Regent Seven Seas’ 16-night Iconic Islands to Empire City is priced from $10,099 per person for fare including flights, hotel, and transfers

We’ve already noted that Bermuda is not the Caribbean, but if you want to explore both, Regent’s Iconic Islands to Empire City is an itinerary to remember. Departing from Miami for New York, this luxury, all-inclusive voyage calls on Bermuda in addition to seven other islands along the way. En route to Hamilton, why not stop off in Grenada, St. Lucia, St. Bart’s, Puerto Rico, and all three of the ABC islands? Sailing Regent’s 700-passenger Seven Seas Mariner , you won’t have to even think about lifting a finger; everything from airfare to Wi-Fi is built into the fare, including tips, shore excursions, and fine wines and spirits. This is the Bermuda cruise for those who have perhaps already spent time on the island and now want to expand their repertoire of tropical sandy beaches—in the lap of luxury.

One week with an ocean crossing on Windstar

To book: Windstar’s 7-night Bermuda Bliss cruise starts at $2,599 per person

Bound for Bermuda with the sea breeze in your hair is the vibe aboard Star Pride , one of Windstar’s distinguished yachts. This weeklong sailing is actually a crossing, taking up to 312 passengers from New York to San Juan, Puerto Rico, via the Atlantic Ocean. After two sea days, you’ll disembark for some time in St. George, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for being the earliest example of an English colonial town in the New World. Another two sea days bring you to the Port of San Juan, where passengers disembark and can opt for a brief land vacation. With a casual and intimate atmosphere aboard, this Windstar cruise is the right move for travelers who really want to unwind at sea with a Bermuda stint in between. Begin your mornings with yoga on deck, and if the weather allows, take a dip in the ocean from the water-sports platform.

Celebrity Summit Review: Cruising Paradise

Cruise ship in the Caribbean

We’re frequent cruisers and have cruised on the Celebrity Summit ship twice. Our first trip was to the Eastern Caribbean on a holiday cruise. Our second voyage was to Bermuda following a significant renovation on the ship. Since we have cruised twice, we’ve seen changes to the vessel over time and have had the chance to really explore the ship. There aren’t a lot a lot of detailed Celebrity Summit reviews, so this may help others.

Celebrity Summit Cruise Ship Overview

Food review, cooking classes, entertainment, behind-the-scenes tours, ship by the numbers, celebrity cruises app, eastern caribbean cruise, check-in and disembarkation in san juan, eastern caribbean itinerary, bermuda cruise, check-in and disembarkation in cape liberty, nj, bermuda itinerary, a minor disaster, the overall celebrity summit cruise experience.

Ship docked beside a port city

The Celebrity Summit is a Millennium-class vessel that was built in 2001 at a cost of over $350 million. While it is an older ship, it has been well maintained.

The 2012 renovation added cabins and other improvements to make the ship more similar to the company’s Solstice-class ships – larger public spaces, more dining options, and a few special perks for those in Aqua Class.

Celebrity Summit orange life preserver on deck

The 2019 Celebrity Summit refurbishment saw the most substantial refit and renovations in the vessel’s history. All of the suites, cabins, and staterooms were completely renovated. Dining options were substantially expanded with new specialty restaurants added. The casino was completely modernized. The Oceanview Café was remodeled and now has a better passenger flow. The renovations are more substantial than photos would indicate, including enhancements to the plumbing (more on that later) and behind-the-scenes areas.

Tables set in a restaurant

Anyone who has cruised before will recognize the general layout of the ship and the Celebrity Summit deck plans. The lowest level is the gangway and infirmary. There are a total of 11 decks accessible to guests (labeled Decks 2-12).

Ship's doctor working on a patient's foot

The Celebrity Theater is in the bow of the ship from Decks 3-5. The shops, casino, front office, shore excursion office and lounges are available on Decks 4-5. Guest staterooms are located on Decks 2-3 as well as from Decks 6-9. Deck 10 is the pool and the buffet, called the Oceanview Café. Deck 11 is the walking track. Deck 12 is the sports deck.

Regardless of company, most cruise ships are laid out in a nearly identical fashion. While they may differ in the location of a specific bar or casino, it’s pretty standard.

People playing basketball on the Sports Deck

On our cruises, we spend the bulk of our time on Decks 10-11, by the pool or on the deck above looking out at the ocean. When visiting some beautiful ports of call, it lets us have the chance to have excellent views at sail away.

Card tables and slot machines inside a casino

On both of our cruises, we were in an interior stateroom. We were in room 2088 – an interior stateroom on deck 2 – during our Eastern Caribbean cruise. And, on our Celebrity cruise to Bermuda, we were in room 8105, immediately under the swimming pool. On cruises, we spend almost no time in our room, so the interior/exterior and room size make little difference for us. We’ve never paid for a big suite or balcony, and that’s fine by us.

Bed and chairs in an interior stateroom on the Celebrity Summit

Our Celebrity Summit stateroom was pretty standard and had two twin beds pushed together to make a king-sized bed just like every other cruise we’ve been on. The stateroom had a small sofa (more like an over-sized chair), a coffee table, and a little vanity station. There was a flat panel TV and a mini bar. The closets had one large compartment for hanging clothes and a smaller section with shelving (one shelf held a safe for valuables) to serve as a dresser. The bathroom was pretty compact and had a shower, sink, and toilet.

Since the refurbishment, the rooms have a more open concept and there is glass doors on the shelving and cubby areas, which make it appear more open and inviting.

One of the things that many cruisers look forward to is the food onboard. There are 9 different restaurants and cafes onboard. Every morning, we had breakfast in the Oceanview Café (Deck 10) in the middle of the ship. This is the long buffet with hot food and omelet stations in the morning and some cooked-to-order items for dinner. One evening, we had dinner here for the Asian stir fry, which was delicious. Most days, we had a late lunch at the Pool Grill (Deck 10), grabbing a quick hamburger and fries before soaking up some sun.

Spring roll on a plate

For dinner, we dinned almost every night in the Cosmopolitan Restaurant (Deck 5), which has been renamed with the super-boring name of Main Restaurant.

We opted for Celebrity Select Dining – a more flexible option giving us the ability to make reservations for the times that interested us. We made reservations most nights, and on the one time we didn’t, we only had to wait about 20 minutes.

The food in the Main Restaurant was quite good. To feed several thousand people, everything needs to be mass produced, but it is done in a way where quality standards were very high. We enjoyed it.

Cakes in a display case

One night, we went to the playfully modern Qsine. The Qsine menu, which is presented on iPads, is full of deconstructed items or whimsical recreations of favorites – spring rolls served in large springs, sushi lollipops, or a taco mortar pestle guacamole. The food was exceptional and the service matched.

Orange, white, and black chairs at tables in an empty restaurant

We were not in Aqua Class, but we heard good things about the private dining room Blu.

Bartender pouring three martinis at once

One of the special experiences available on Celebrity Cruises are some of the cooking classes. On select sea days, cooking classes are offered. In the morning, you’ll make a multi-course meal and then eat it for lunch in the Tuscan Grille restaurant. It’s a wonderful experience!

People wearing chefs hats in a cooking class

There were entertainment programs every night, including two Broadway-esque singing shows: the classics with Stars in Their Eyes and iHollywood, which had tunes from the silver screen. Additionally there was an iMagic show with the greatest illusions in history and Joel Mason’s Elton John tribute show.

Unfortunately, we didn’t go to a single one of the evening programs. For us, it seemed liked there was usually only one show, which seemed to conflict with dinner. For the nights when they had two shows, the first was extremely early and the other was in the middle of dinner.

Theater seating and stage

Celebrity Cruises offers two different behind-the-scenes tours onboard. There is a behind-the-scenes Celebrity Summit Ship tour, usually on the first sea day. There’s a nearly $100 per person charge for the tour. You’ll see the bridge, the I-95 main corridor, and see how the magic is made. If you’ve never taken a cruise ship tour, it’s worth doing at least once.

Kitchen employee using a stand mixer in the ship's galley

There’s a second option for cruisers. The behind-the-scenes galley tour is free and not to be missed. You’ll descend into the bowels of the ship and see how your food is prepared. You can see the massive ice cream makers, employees cutting all the fruits and vegetables, and all of the prep work being doing. It is absolutely fascinating!

The Celebrity app is a useful tool onboard. It has detailed schedules, deck plans, and even a handy messaging feature to keep in touch with friends and family members on board. One of our top Celebrity cruise tips is to download the app at home to save slow downloads on the first day on the boat.

Revelations Lounge with chairs and tables in front of a stage

The check-in process in San Juan, Puerto Rico, was relatively painless. The transfer of baggage from taxi to longshoreman took only about 3 minutes. Once inside the terminal, the lines moved very quickly. We were fully checked in and headed towards to the ship in about 20 minutes.

In some Celebrity Summit reviews we read, others noted a long, disorganized check-in process so we were expecting the worst. However, we found it to be efficient and consistent with other cruise lines.

Crowd of people waiting in a large room to board the ship

Disembarkation in San Juan was also relatively painless. Like all cruise ships, you leave the tagged luggage outside your door by midnight. The luggage meets you on shore. We were some of the last to leave the ship, heading up to the Oceanview Café for breakfast before taking our time getting off the boat. Once in the terminal, we did experience long lines to clear immigration (sadly, no Global Entry kiosks in San Juan).

The main staircase of the ship lined with poinsettias

This cruise was a seven night Eastern Caribbean cruise leaving out of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Depending on which ports are included, they either sell this cruise an Eastern Caribbean cruise or a Southern Caribbean cruise.

The Eastern Caribbean ports of call were:

 • St. Croix, US Virgin Islands – Snorkeling Buck Island
 • Basseterre, St. Kitts – Jammin’ at the reggae Cockleshell Beach
 • Roseau, Dominica – Visiting Trafalgar Falls, Titou Gorge and the Champagne Reef
 • St. George’s Grenada – Scuba diving the Grenada underwater sculpture park
 • Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas – A visit to Magens Bay Beach
 • San Juan, Puerto Rico

In each port, we opted to plan our own activities rather than book into one of the official Celebrity Cruises excursions. We’ve found this is a good way to get away from the crowds and have the kind of travel experience we really want. If you are new to cruising, we recommend reading our article Cruise Tips for a Better Voyage in which we share all of our tips and tricks.

Two ships at port on an island

The check-in in Cape Liberty, New Jersey, was the fastest and most efficient check-in we’ve experienced. Cruisers can now use the Celebrity Cruises app to upload photos of themselves and scan their documents. When you arrive at Cape Liberty in Bayonne, New Jersey, all you need to do is drop your bags, head inside, use the facial-recognition software, go through security screening and get on the boat. Total embarkation time for us was less than 5 minutes.

Getting off the boat was equally easy. Roll off the boat, walk through the facial-recognition software, pick up your bags, and get in your car. It could not be faster or easier.

Red British-style phone booths with palm trees

The focus of this cruise is on Bermuda. There are usually two sea days in one direction and one sea day coming the other way. On some select itineraries, Newport, Rhode Island, or Charleston, South Carolina , are sometimes added. On some 10-day Bermuda cruises, both Newport and Charleston are added to the itinerary.

One evening we were coming back from dinner in the dining room and noticed the carpet in our hallway near our door was wet. It was about like someone had spilled a glass of water. No big deal. And then we heard the sound of water rushing in the ceiling above our heads. We opened the door to our stateroom.

Flooded stateroom with items piled on beds

The carpet was wet and water was pouring into our stateroom through the wall. Laura called down to the front desk and there was no answer – it rang for over a minute. By this time, some of our neighbors were encountering large amounts of water in their room. Down the hall, a family with small children started screaming and crying. Down the hall, some idiot yells, “The boat is sinking!”

Laura ran down to the front desk to try and get someone from the ship’s crew to come. They told her they were aware of the issue and it was being handled. Meanwhile, back outside our stateroom, there were no employees anywhere. I called the front desk and was told maintenance was fixing it. Meanwhile, no employees visible.

For over 30 minutes, water poured into at least a dozen staterooms and not a single employee showed up help or calm people down.

Stateroom with items piled on top of furniture after a flooding

Despite having spent weeks in dry dock going through a multi-million-dollar refurbishment, it would seem the pipes had not been addressed. A high-pressure pipe connecting the swimming pool to a dump valve outside the vessel had burst. The entire contents of the ship’s swimming pool drained in guest staterooms – an estimated 15,000 gallons of saltwater – in our luggage, clothes, and personal possessions.

While waiting until 2:00am to figure out if we could go back into our room or waiting on employees to tell us anything, a server in one of the bars casually mentioned this has happened before. There have been at least two other burst pipes that have flooded the crew’s quarters on the lower decks of the cruise ship in recent months.

Steering wheel on the ship's bridge overlooking the ocean

The next day, the captain and the director of hospitality met with the people whose rooms were flooded on the bridge of the ship. Explanations and apologies were made. We believe Celebrity’s efforts truly helped make the situation right and we were satisfied with the outcome. And, yes, we will probably cruise on Celebrity again sometime. But we were left with the nagging feeling that guest safety wasn’t a top priority.

Pool area full of people swimming and sunbathing

We would cruise on Celebrity again, but would look to a different itinerary.

Our overall Celebrity Summit review is very good. While the Summit was an older ship, it was well maintained, particularly after the refurbishment.

The Summit itineraries are very good. The selling point of the 7-day cruise of the Eastern Caribbean is the chance to have six days in port and visiting some amazing destinations! On the Celebrity Cruises to Bermuda, the main selling point was the ability to drive to the Cape Liberty terminal and have several consecutive days in port.

Question- unsure if i missed this detail but we booked bermuda cruise for july and nervous about the pipes/plumbing thing now.. Can you please tell me if your plumbing issue was what year? hoping it was before the 2019 refurb? thanks in advance and thanks for the detailed review!

Laura Longwell

No, it was after the refurbishment. Considering how bad the leaking was, I would be surprised if they didn't check everything VERY carefully after that. Hopefully you'll have smooth sailing in every way.

We are scheduled to cruise to Bermuda in July. We ar under the impression the Summit haa been refurbished. It doesn'r sound thaf way according to Ms. St Hill's review. Was that cruise before or after the refurbishing?

To clarify, the Celebrity Summit refurbishment was in March 2019. It was a full dry dock refurbishment.

I just went on a Celebrity Summit cruise and the bathroom really had a sewage smell to it. We were show several rooms that also had that same smell. The room attendant said that the pipes needed to be fixed. I also experienced the same smell in one of the whirlpools. The food from the buffet made me sick, maybe it's because there are no gloves worn by the chef. The basketball court needs to be upgraded because the rim is leaning. The only nice thing I liked was the massage and the Solarium.

I do not have a cruise booked yet this year. But have been on Celebrity many times...Have also sailed NCL.. Carnival...Cunard...Royal Carribean...Princess and some lines that no longer sail...the old Home Lines and Sitmar...Been on 49 cruises ....and still think Celebrity is the BEST....hope to jump on one before the year is over!!!!

celebrity cruise bermuda reviews

Celebrity's Zenith out of Bayonne is probably the one you are sailing on?

The other two are out of Philly....Royal Carribean and Norwegian Cruise Lines.

Weather out of New Jersey then can be great, can be awful. Weather in Bermuda will pretty nice....not hot....not too cool....perhaps a tad chilly for swimming in the ocean, though...but one can try!

Many sites on the web concerning average temperatures, weather conditions in Bermuda that time of year.

As far as spending money. Wow.....$2500.00....times have changed!! As far as I can tell, if you cruise there you will be in Bermuda for around 4 days. You do not deal with cash on the ship at all....as most everything (including bartender tips) is charged to your "shipboard" credit card. The only cash as far as the ship is concerned is the $200.00 or so you will need for everyone'

s tip on the last day, and the on-board casino which will be closed when you are docked in Bermuda.

All meals are included on your cruise , so that isn't a cost, unless you have lunch or dinner off the ship.

Depending on your tastes, though, you can go crazy at the shops for clothes, perfumes, liquors, etc. All shops and establishments take major credit cards....so unless you just don't want to use the credit cards....then take the extra cash just in case...but do obtain travel's checks for the majority of the loot!

I always take much more $$$ than I need....just in case....but I doubt I would take $2500.00 because of the on-board casino alone!!

Anyway...have fun. You will love it...and the cruise there will gear you up for an extended visit by jet the next time...so you can spend every possible minute of your vacation on this beautiful island.

I thought $2500 was an awful lot too!!! Gives me somebody else's perspective. Thanks!!! I appreciate it!!

Have you been to Bermuda before?

HI! No- we've never been there before. The only place that we've ever been besides the US is Puerto Vallarta. Thanks for the tip on the website. I'll have to check that out. Have you been anywhere else that you could suggest for a family with small kids? What about an all-inclusive resort? Know anything about that? I know- pain in the neck, right? Thanks for all your help!!!

We have 3 girls, aged 6,4 and 3 months.

Went to Sesame Place in Jersey for an overnight trip the summer before last. That was fun.

Also took them to Cape May/Wildwood, NJ for a long Columbus Day weekend in 2004. They also enjoyed that...but at that age, they are easy to please!

Not sure about taking them (flying and staying at a hotel ) to Bermuda at this young age, as I like to rent the mopeds and explore the island. Now that I have three girls, this may put a damper on my ability to roam the island as I once did back in B.C. (Before Childern).

A cruise , however may be completely different as there are many things to do onboard ship, as well as in port to keep them/myself occupied. We'll see.

Like I said....Bermuda is a paradise...and I'm certain you will absolutely love it.

As far as the all-inclusive...I know that Sandals, or similar type resorts, have great kids programs (Sesame Street characters, etc,) down in the Carribean islands. Looks/sounds great...but I haven't been there.

Hi! How was it taking the little ones to Disney? I was thinking of that too but my husband thinks that we should wait until the baby (he's 2 now) is a little older so he could enjoy it more. He's probably right, right? We've been on little trips (lake compounce, hershey park, rhode island, etc.)with them too. Actually, on our week long trips, we normally take them down to Hilton Head Island, SC (my parents live there) but this year we thought we would go someplace different. Have you heard anything or been to Jamaica before? That was another one of my ideas of where we should go. FDR Pebbles in Jamaica gives you an on-site nanny upon arrival for the entire time you're there and it's all-inclusive. That sounds nice, right? Gives you a chance to spend some time alone with your husband on vacation for a few hours. That's where I was thinking of looking into. Anyway, I'm rambling, thanks for all your help- you've been very insightful.

The main issue is the heat and humitity at certain times of the year and the toll it takes on the little ones...as they can't get comfortable.

As fas a "will he enjoy it more" (or will he forget everything) when he is older....probably....but WDW isn't going away!!

In this day and age of digital photography and video cam-corders, etc....you are never too young and, unlike my parents who never took any pictures or video of our trips back in the 70's (hence I have no recollection of what went on)...today...you could be a newborn and in ten or 15 years re-live the entire trip like it was yesterday. Many people will suggest that 2 years old is not too young and your little one will have a blast. I tend to beleive that...and let's face it....you will have a blast seeing him have a blast! But I'd wait till three or four years old anyway...but that's just me.

That place in Jamaica that gives you a nanny as soon as you arrive sounds like heaven...and all-inclusive to boot!

Suggest you go to the Orlando forum and look around...as well as the Jamaica forum. Tons of information out there about traveling with children.

thanks for all of your input. It's good sometimes to get somebody else's opinion or experience on things. I think I agree with you about waiting until he's atleast 3 if not 4 to go to WDW. I'll have to check out those other forums - thanks again for everything!!!!

Bermuda Shore Excursions?

Cool Cruiser

My family and I (all adults) are going on the Bermuda cruise (docking in Kings Wharf) this summer. Does anyone have suggestions about the best shore excursions? We are planning on booking the Crystal Caves excursion but we have two other open days. The Celebrity website isn't letting us select days or times for excursions but that's another story lol.

Most of what can be done by excursion, can be done DIY, and save money at the same time. For example, you don't need an excursion to go to Crystal Caves. This is something you can easily DIY. Want to do a taxi tour? Hire a 'blue flag' taxi for a tour of the island. An excursion ties you to the times to go and the duration. You should decide when and for how long. JMHO

You can get a three day bus and ferry ticket and can go just about anywhere. Check out the port of calls boards for mort information. I would suggest going to St. George and taking their walking tour, Horseshoe Bay beach ( just beautiful), Crystal Caves, Gibbs Lighthouse.

When myself and my husband went last summer we booked most excursions when we arrived. We went to Horseshoe Bay Beach, Elbow Bay Beach, Segway Tour, and jet skis. We did book our catamaran sunset sail through the ship. The shore excursions offered by Celebrity are great, but you can save money by booking them on your own before you go or after you arrive as you have three days there. We spent our last day exploring the dockyard. If you buy tickets for the ferry or bus you may have more freedom to explore the island (Hamilton, St. George's, etc.) I highly recommend you check out the Bermuda board :)

sandav

You do not need a ship's tour in Bemuda. Taxis are freely available at the Dockyard where the ship docks and most of the drivers are certified Blue Flag guides. Just ask at the taxi rank. We were in Bermuda in 2014 on the Summit and on the 2015 Eclipse Transatlantic. We used these taxi tours in 2014 and the guide was very good and he showed us lots. We paid $40 an hour and did a four hour tour. I imagine it will a bit more now but if there are a few if you it would work out quite reasonable.

We also went to Crystal and Fantasy Caves on our second day when the Summit was in Bermuda. It's reachable by bus from Hamilton and St George's . There's also a Swizzle Inn within a minute's walk from the caves and a bus to Hamilton from there.

When we went to the caves we took the ferry to St George's, taxi to the caves, walked a few minutes to Swizzle Inn ( nice food, great rum sizzles), bus back to Hamilton and then ferry back to the ship.

At the time we went you could get a 3 day pass for the ferries and buses.

Bus stops in Bermuda have different coloured poles, blue and pink. Stops with blue poles mean the bus is heading away from Hamilton and pink poles mean bus heading towards Hamilton. The bus stop is only a minute walk from the ship's dock as are the taxis. Another minute or so will take you to the shops etc at the Dockyard at King's Wharf. The ferries leave just a few minutes walk from where the ship docks.

Just an example of how to save cost over the cruise line's excursion.

Token/ for 14 zone zone bus ticket $4.50 each way, or you can opt for the 2 day unlimited transportation pass (good for both ferries and all bus routes) for $31.50 per adult. Another option is the private run shuttles, though not completely sure but I think the dock to attraction "door" shuttles are $20 /adult round trip.

Crystal and Fantasy Caves admission is $22 each or as a combo at $30. A really nice thing with the 2 cave package on your own is you can space the climbs between the 2 caves to your fitness level, taking a break at the snack bar or just sitting in the shade.

If you opt for the unlimited public transport pass you can also easily grab a bus from the caves to go over to the Aquarium and Zoo ($10/adult admission), head over to historic St. Georges, head into Hamilton for shopping or the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute (admission $15/adult), or get off at any of the free admission South Shore Beaches (including Horseshoe Bay Beach) to see the pink sand and take a dip.

As for other things to do on the island plan to spend at least 1/2 a day just exploring the Royal Naval Dockyard . Bermuda also has several approved tourist information websites like:

We found it very easy to take the ship's excursions in Bermuda, avoids the lines for public transport.

We did a nice water tour from the pier..saw beautiful homes and landmarks,. Tour ends in Hamilton.,.and tour provides return ferry ticket, Had a great time walking all over Hamilton, enjoyed the public park with moongate ,etc and a tavern lunch. Used our ferry ticket back to the ship.

Also took a full island bus tour,,..hit all the landmarks, photo stops and had time for a quick lunch in St Georges. Easy fun day.

I did the full island mini bus tour also and recommend it. Bermuda is easy to get around on public transportation but not being as young or as mobile as I use to be this was an easy and enjoyable tour which included the light house, different neighborhoods, a stop in St. George for lunch and a quick ride thru Hamilton.

lnuzzo

Our first trip to Bermuda, we took an island tour through the cruise line, and got a good feel for the layout of the island. we then rented a scooter, which we parked next to the ship for the 2 days we were in port. this was a LONG time ago, and honestly I would not recommend this. traffic is much heavier now than in '95, and Bermuda is notorious for scooter wrecks.

Public transportation is plentiful, cheap, and extremely easy to navigate. All busses go to Hamilton, and then back out again. every bus route we took had incredible coastline views, the drivers were personable and helpful, and we never found the busses to be crowded. Would you rather travel via boat? you can reach most of the island via ferry as well from the Dockyard. As an earlier poster wrote, you can buy tokens, or multi day passes at the Visitor Information Centers at the Dockyard.

In a pinch or after-hours you can use taxis, but expect to be shocked at the cost. Last year we stayed by St George, and were quoted a cost of $70 to get to Horseshoe Bay by taxi (for 2 ppl)

One of the very best tours we did was with Ricky you will love it. - to review: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g562685-d7611724-Reviews-Ricky_s_Island_Tours_Minibus_Service-Sandys_Parish_Bermuda.html

To Book - http://www.rickysminibus.com/

My wife and I were very disappointed in the SunSet Catamaran Cruise, the Sun Set was beautiful but the Captian and Crew were more suited for a drinking party (we both drink).

What's good for someone with mobility issues (can't do much walking/standing - ferry will be too long of a walk), but wants to see Hamilton, St. Georges, historic sites, and do some photography?

You really need to book with Ricky he meets you with his beautiful van right where you get off the ship. The guy is great and you will have the "time of your life" on beautiful Bermuda. See my previous post.

Wow thank you to everyone for the feedback!! I will look definitely look into everything mentioned. My parents are older and prefer the ease of booking tours rather than using public transportation. But I have plenty of options now! Thanks again :)

another fun thing to do is rent a boston whaler or similar boat for the afternoon. we did this last year and had a blast. we saw the America's cup catamarans practice up close! we used somerset bridge water sports. they are about 20 minutes from the dockyard. would recommend a reservation.

There’s Something for Everyone on Bermuda Shore Excursions

Lazing on amazing pink-sand beaches ; snorkeling through clear blue waters; sailing on a luxury catamaran with a tropical drink in hand; pub crawling in Hamilton—these are just a few of the Bermuda shore excursions you can schedule when your port of call is Royal Naval Dockyard.

Bermuda cruise excursions that combine activities like sightseeing and beach trips are perfect ways to appreciate the history, culture, and natural beauty of the island. Take a guided tour the entire length of the island, then spend time relaxing on a beach chaise. Stroll a 12-acre nature reserve with walking trails and spectacular views of Castle Harbor.

Sightsee in high tech style on a Segway tour of the Royal Naval Dockyard that includes the Victualling Yard, center of naval operations, Casemates Prison, and the Clocktower Mall and shops.

Book one of the most popular Bermuda shore excursions: Board a sleek and spacious catamaran, one of the largest and most luxurious in all of Bermuda, which sails to a protected cove, where you can swim or snorkel, and enjoy splashing around in calm, clear water, and wiggling your toes in that iconic pink sand. Stop for an ice cream treat at one of the best sweet spots on the island.

There’s no shortage of fabulous food finds on Bermuda, and when you book a culinary tour with guest chef Bryan Voltaggio, a James Beard Award-nominee and “Top Chef” finalist, who’s partnered with a renowned Bermuda chef, you’ll be treated to a visit to the island’s only organic farm with behind the scenes glimpses of the farm’s animal housings and greenhouses. And, your instructors will prepare Bermudian feast, using seasonal farm-fresh ingredients, for an unforgettable farm-to-table experience.

Enjoy an afternoon of sightseeing with a trip to Haydon Trust Park and Chapel, a lovely acreage of lush gardens, which houses 10 old buildings, including the smallest chapel on the island, dating back to the 1620s, and Somerset Bridge, the world’s smallest drawbridge. Conclude your sightseeing adventure with a very proper, very British afternoon tea that includes tea sandwiches, scones and teacakes.

Family-friendly Bermuda shore excursions include swim-with-dolphins fun and games; glass-bottom boat trips that show off the undersea world of tropical fish, sea grass, and even a shipwreck; and a crystal caves exploration, complete with stalagmites and stalactites, in tandem with a visit to the island’s aquarium, museum, and zoo.

Bermuda is a self-governing British dependency that melds island living with proper English traditions. Cruise to Bermuda and see sparkling blue water and pink-sand beaches, and hibiscus and bougainvillea blooms in front of pretty pastel cottages. If you cruise Bermuda you'll also find that afternoon tea is a daily ritual, judges still wear powdered wigs and cricket is a much-loved sport.

Unlike Caribbean cruises, Bermuda cruises are tightly controlled in order to keep the crowds to a minimum. Because of limits on the number of passengers that may disembark in Bermuda, it is not unusual for Bermuda cruise lines to limit the number of cabins with triple or quad occupancy on a particular sailing. This means that families planning to cruise to Bermuda in the summer (when school is out) should generally book at least 90 days in advance.

 • The Bermuda cruise season lasts from late-April to October.
 • Most cruises to Bermuda last seven nights, and ships typically spend three nights at the island. Some ships will stay in one port, while others may visit up to three Bermuda cruise ports.
 • Most cruises to Bermuda depart from Boston or New York City.
 • Bermuda is an extremely popular golf destination, boasting some of the most beautiful greens in the world. Because ships stay in port for several days, it is easy to schedule tee times when you cruise Bermuda.
 • Many people mistakenly assume that Bermuda is in the Caribbean. In fact, it is actually about 1,000 miles north of the Caribbean and roughly 570 miles east of Cape Hatteras, NC.

Combine Bermuda's scenic beaches with Rhode Island's sophisticated mansions on this Oceania Cruises sailing.

Combine Bermuda with some notable coastal destinations along the East Coast, including colorful Charleston, on this intriguing Celebrity itinerary.

Enjoy time in Bermuda on the way to Puerto Rico on a yacht-style sailing with Windstar.
