Note: Select promotions require full payment at the time of booking. Carnival accepts American Express, Visa, MasterCard, and Discover Card for all cruise payments.

Cancellation and Refunds

Penalties may apply if you cancel or change your reservation. Penalties can be up to 100% of the amount paid, and deposits are often non-refundable. We recommend purchasing insurance to protect against covered unexpected events. Please check with your Vacations To Go cruise counselor for cancellation and refund policies for Carnival cruises.

I need to cancel my booking, can I get a refund?

If you are cancelling your booking prior to your final payment, you will receive a refund unless you have booked a specific promotion with a non-refundable deposit and/or fare.

  • For cruises 5 days or less, the final payment date is 75 days prior to sailing and for cruises 6 days or more, the final payment date is 90 days prior to sailing.

In addition to our themed sale fares (eg "72 hour" sale "Get Me Out of Here" sale), some of our fare types have restricted cancellation and refund terms which are not subject to our standard cancellation policy. We will notify you of the terms of your chosen fare type before you make a booking.

Subject to any rights that you have under the Australian Consumer Law, the following fare types are subject to the following terms:

  • Choice Fare: The deposit is non-refundable at any time after the booking is made.
  • Super Saver: The deposit is non-refundable at any time after the booking is made.
  • Pack & Go: 100% of Total Fare is non-refundable any time after the booking is made.

Once your booking is within our cancellation period, the non-refundable amount will increase as the cruise departure approaches. When calculating the days prior to sailing, the day of sailing should not be considered as one of the days. The day of sailing is considered the first day of the cruise:

  • From the final payment date to 56 days prior to sailing, the non-refundable component is the standard deposit amount.
  • From 55 days prior to sailing to 30 days prior to sailing, the non-refundable component is 50% of the total fare or the standard deposit amount, whichever is greater.
  • From 29 to15 days prior to sailing, the non-refundable component is 75% of the total fare or the standard deposit amount, whichever is greater.
  • From 14 days prior to sailing to the day of your cruise, the non-refundable component is 100%* of the total fare.
  • No refunds will be made if you do not show up for your cruise or if you interrupt or cancel your holiday once it has begun.

The total fare is defined as Cruise Fare, Transfer Services and Pre/Post Cruise Vacation Packages and Fly2Fun Air* (please note that Fly2Fun Restricted Air which is non-refundable at time of booking).

Note: For full 100% penalties, the refund will only include: Taxes, Fees and Port Expenses and Optional Prepaid Gratuities*.

If you have purchased Carnival's Fly2Fun* air, please note the following as it pertains to the cancellation of the air portion of your booking:

  • Flexible Air*: Air is refundable outside of 60 days prior to sailing. Applicable penalties apply to changes made within 60 days.
  • Restricted Air*: Air is non-refundable at time of booking.

* Applicable to North America departures only.

For guests booked directly with Carnival:  To check and see if your booking is subject to a cancellation non-refundable component, login to your carnival.com.au profile. Under the 'My Cruise Details' section, click on the 'Is there a non-refundable component for cancelling this booking' link.

For guests booked through a travel agent:  Please contact your travel agent directly to see if your booking is subject to a cancellation non-refundable component.

Deadlines for cruise deposits, payments & refunds (cheat sheet)

Due dates for making initial & final payments — and cancellations.

It can be confusing, especially to first-time cruisers, to know when you have to plunk down an initial deposit, make your final payment, and when you're eligible for a refund. Some of this information isn't all that easy to find!

As a general rule, you put down a deposit at the time of booking, and then make final payment generally 60 to 90 days before the sailing date. If your plans change and you need to postpone or cancel, you can cancel and get a full refund if you cancel at least 90 days out (see below for slight variations — you'll notice Princess's refund policy is fairly strict ... sorry! we still love you, Princess!). Be aware that the cruise lines’ refund policies vary widely and change frequently.

Here's a Cheat Sheet of Cruise Deposit, Full Payment & Refund Deadlines for cruise passengers and travel agents (note: different rules apply to groups).

So disappointed NO refund for refundable deposit

By esper10 , July 7, 2020 in Carnival Cruise Lines

Cool Cruiser

I had a cruise booked over a year ago for June 2020 was for my mom 86 birthday. No question asked I booked refundable deposit especially cruising with an older mother. Way before final Payment date I called my Carnival agent to cancel the cruise. After keeping me LONG time on the phone he finally canceled my booking but said it was a NONE refundable deposit. I know it is not true but nothing I could do about it. I didn’t book any thing not even sure if my money is kept for future cruise. It is $500.00 so disappointed with Carnival. We are elite/diamond (Not sure how they call it). I cancel a paid in full cruise with Princesse and got my $5,000.00 back. Canceled RCCL and it took few days to get $1,000.00 back and same with Celebrity. Only Carnival when I try to call they end up hanging up on me. I wrote I. Facebook and they deleted my post. It’s been few months now. Can I do any thing about this????

When did you cancel this cruise? If you canceled it after March 6 you would be eligible for a refund per Carnival's website. Click at the very top of the home page for the information.

" Carnival will honor this offer for any guests who were previously booked on voyages departing September 30, 2020 or prior and canceled their booking on or after March 6, 2020. "

If you cancelled prior to that date, I'd check your confirmation paperwork for anything that indicates you made a refundable deposit. Good luck in getting your money refunded.

I canceled 3-16

Go to carnival.com and at the top of the homepage you will see UPDATE. Click on More (at the end of the Update line) and scroll down to Canceled Cruises. When you click on that it will take you to a page with the options available if you canceled on or after March 6. Below the options there is a place to click (in blue) for the request form.  If you canceled before March 6 you can try calling again or send an email to guest care with all the information you have about your reservation.

find your original booking confirmation email, it should have the rate information in smaller print near the bottom.

I was booked on a cruise for April 25,2020  On March 6th I received an email stating that if I cancelled by March 31  2020 and rebooked for a sailing by March 31 2021 I would not be charged a cancellation fee. This applied to cruises March 6 to April 30.   After that Carnival did cancel my cruise.   Going forward it was Carnival cancelled cruises that were could get refund or FFC and OBC,  not all cancelled by cruiser after March 6 2020

PhillyFan33579

Something doesn’t sound right here. If you booked under a refundable deposit, it should have been refunded when you cancelled. However, from reading a lot of posts online, it appears Carnival is holding on to money from passengers as long as possible these days.

10,000+ Club

If all else fails and you paid by credit card, dispute it with the credit card company. Let them go after Carnival.

Roger88

It cannot be true, there are only like a few circumstances when you can be denied a refundable deposit and your case doesnt seem like the one among these few. In any case you have a legal right to demand a refund but as always - even if the court will be on your side, its not a gurantee that you will be getting your money back.. if the company simply doesnt have it

travelhound

It's always better to let Carnival cancel your cruise.  You will get a much better deal, with an a full refund and FCC.

I hate to sound like a doubter here, but there are several things in your post that make me question.

  • If you were truly Diamond with Carnival, you would know what that is!!
  • You aren't sure if your money is kept for a future cruise.  Didn't you ASK?
  • You called your Carnival "agent."  Carnival has PVPs (personal vacation planners) or you could you have had a TA that specializes in Carnival cruises (they are out there).  Which one?
  • You say that you cancelled 3/16, but not when the cruise was scheduled.  There is no way that 3/16 could be WAY before final payment for a June cruise unless it was the very end of June.
  • Carnival is slammed with phone calls.  I have been dropped a couple of times, but the only way they are hanging up on you is if you are abusive with them.

The upshot of all of this is, we really can't help you.  YOU HAVE TO CALL CARNIVAL.

I canceled a refundable deposit with Princess in March for a July itinerary and it took four months to get my deposit refunded!

TeresaJ

If you cancelled on March 16, you can get a refund even with a nonrefundable deposit. Go online and fill out the form and select refund.

We were scheduled to sail 3/15/20 and cancelled on 3/8/20. Their initial policy at that time only allowed for FCC which we were okay with. On 3/16/20, I received an updated email from Carnival allowing me to choose between either FCC or refund.

You are entitled to an option!

1. Not everyone is aware of the booking terms. Some pay more attention than others or trust what they are told. Diamond doesn’t mean anything. I always book with a refundable deposit but a confirmation email showed one was non-refundable. I had to call back to fix that with Royal Caribbean.

2. The call was disconnected. There are very long hold times and OP sought out alternate options through social media but the post was removed. It’s typical for this to happen on both, the Carnival page and the brand ambassador page.

3. I’ve never used a PVP with Carnival and always used a regular agent despite having a PVP assigned time me. I would never book through a TA or PVP.

4. When was final payment discussed? Maybe OP was unaware of Carnival’s cancelations?

5. Royal Caribbean has been known to hang up on anyone questioning their refund process. What makes Carnival any different?

you are right we are platinum status. I canceled 3-16 and cruise should have been 6-20-2020 so finals payment date was after 3-16 yes I did talk to my vacation planner. I did book a refundable deposit and called my vacation planner to cancel. While we cruised quite a bit I never knew were to find small details. More than that I had 2 different surgeries within 2 months. Hip replacement in the beginning of March, and than I had a fall and broke my fumer Bone at the end of April, so I had no time to look into this. I have no reason not to say exactly what happened since I’m asking for advice.

Sorry about your surgeries - obviously they tend to distract from the details of cancelling a cruise and getting a refund.

If you booked a fully refundable deposit and the cruise was cancelled before final payment was made, then you should receive the entire deposit back, regardless of whether it was Carnival or you cancelling it - that's the nature of fully refundable deposits.

Did you buy insurance?  Maybe that is the part that is non-refundable.

You say you talked to your "vacation planner".  Is that a Carnival PVP, or a third party travel agent?

Maybe your PVP/TA told you they booked a fully refundable deposit for you, but they were wrong or misled you.  You need to review the booking info you were sent at the time of the original booking.

It is possible some wires are getting crossed between you, your PVP/TA, and Carnival.  You should contact your PVP/TA again and ask for clarification.

Do you have a copy of the booking to make sure what rate you booked? Es isnt refundable. Would help if you knew what rate you booked. You say refundable, but dont state the rate. Did you at any time do a price drop and match es? Making it es.

So little info here, hard to help

Again .... what rate did you book. If you dont know call and find out. Start there.

Are you saying you cancelled on final payment date? If right on the date final payment was due, there could be a penalty even if refundable.

Next time, book online and do it yourself. This way, you have everything black and white in front of you before you click the buy button instead of relying on someone else and potential problem through miscommunication.

Regardless if you booked a nonrefundable deposit, you can still get your deposit back because your cruise was cancelled and you cancelled it after the new policy was implemented where you can choose between FCC or 100% refund.

You need to go online and fill out the form on their website and request a refund.

Expecting a refund for a canceled cruise? Here's how long it could take

Gene Sloan

Editor's Note

Are you waiting for a refund for a canceled cruise? You're not alone.

Cruise lines have canceled thousands of departures in recent weeks due to the coronavirus outbreak, and they're in the midst of processing full or partial refunds for several million customers.

Cruise giant Carnival alone says it has been working on getting money back to more than 1 million people.

That's an unprecedented number of refunds for the industry to process in a short period, and it isn't always going smoothly. Here at TPG, we've been getting a steady stream of emails from readers about issues surrounding cruise refunds and the "future cruise credits" lines are offering as an alternative.

Visit TPG's guide to all coronavirus news and updates

Some readers are unsure about how the refund process works, and others are describing a lack of communication about refunds from their lines or the travel agencies that sold them their cruise. But, for the most part, the big question they have is simple: When is my refund coming?

The quick answer to the latter question: It depends on the cruise line .

You could wait up to 90 days

Some big cruise operators are processing refunds in just a few weeks. Others are taking up to three months to get money back to customers.

At cruise giant Royal Caribbean and sister line Celebrity Cruises, for instance, the staff that handles refund requests is trying to get them processed in 30 business days (which works out to about 45 days).

At a number of smaller lines such as Crystal Cruises, Silversea and Oceania Cruises, refunds are taking up to 90 days to process. Norwegian Cruise Line says refunds are being processed 90 days after a request is made.

"We are working hard to help our guests," Jonathon Fishman, a spokesperson for the parent company of Royal Caribbean and Celebrity, told TPG. "It takes 30 business days from the cancellation date. It may take a couple of days for the cancellation to take effect."

Spokespeople for a number of cruise lines contacted by TPG said they were trying to process refunds as fast as they could. But they're struggling under a deluge of requests. They're also hampered by stay-at-home orders that have refund processors trying to handle their work from home offices instead of company sites.

Some lines also have laid off a large number of employees in recent weeks or have employees working on reduced hours. Carnival, Princess Cruises and Holland America in recent days have laid off or furloughed nearly 50% of their U.S.-based staff -- several thousand people in all.

At Miami-based Crystal, all employees -- not just refund processors -- have been working at home for weeks due to stay-at-home orders, spokesperson Susan Robison told TPG. They're also dealing with an extraordinary volume of refund requests due to simultaneous cancellations of sailings on all ocean, river and yacht vessels around the world into June.

"It is our intent to issue applicable refunds as quickly as possible," Robison said. "I can tell you that many of our guests are seeing refunds issued faster than our original estimate of up to 90 days."

Individual policies aren't always clear

Some cruise lines are posting the number of days it will take to receive a refund on their websites. Others only will tell you if you ask. But that's if you can get through to them. Many cruise lines report unprecedented call volume and have been asking customers for patience as they work through requests.

TPG contacted major cruise lines catering to North Americans about the topic and was given a wide range of estimates as to how long refunds would take. Most fell into one of four estimated timelines: 30, 45, 60 or 90 days.

A handful of lines did not respond to TPG's request for information.

Carnival, which accounts for nearly 20% of all cruises taken worldwide, only would say it is "committed to issuing refunds as soon as possible."

Carnival has canceled nearly all its cruises through September , with the exception of August sailings on eight of the line's 27 ships that remain on the schedule for now.

The situation "dwarfs any disruption we've experienced in even the worst hurricane season," Carnival said in a statement. "We can confirm that refunds are being issued to those guests that requested one."

Refunds even for people taking credits

Most cruise lines have offered customers on canceled sailings a full cash refund.

As an alternative, cruise lines will give customers on canceled cruises a future cruise credit for the amount they paid, often with a "bonus credit" added to make the credit more enticing .

Cruise lines want you to take the credit. With revenues plummeting , they're eager to preserve as much cash as they can on their balance sheets.

Still, whether you ask for the refund or take the credit, you'll likely be getting at least some money back from your line as a cash payment. Even for those taking the credit, many lines are refunding taxes, fees, port charges and other prepaid items in cash.

Carnival, for instance, has been sending cash refunds for all taxes, fees and port expenses that customers paid for cruises, even when the customer chooses the credit option. The result is that every one of the more than 1 million Carnival customers who had a cruise canceled are receiving some sort of refund that needs to be processed.

It's a task so daunting, Carnival has pulled in management to help.

"Our customer service team has been approved for overtime, and we have trained other management employees to help as well," the line said in its statement to TPG.

Frustration from some cruisers

The good news for those who are worried about their refunds is that refunds are happening. TPG has heard from readers on a number of canceled sailings who already have received their money back.

Still, TPG also has heard from readers who report trouble getting a confirmation that their request for a refund has been registered or is coming. Often, these complaints come from readers who booked through discount online travel agencies.

TPG also has heard from readers who booked with cruise companies that are not offering refunds for canceled trips. A handful of small companies that mostly operate river cruises, including Grand Circle Cruise Line and Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours, only will give passengers on canceled sailings a voucher for a future cruise -- at least initially. Scenic says passengers can get a refund, but only after the voucher expires in 2023.

In at least one case, a cruise-selling company initially offered customers on a canceled cruise a refund and then didn't follow through on the offer.

TPG reader Kim Johnson, 64, of Tucson, Arizona, said Grand Circle initially offered her and a group of her friends a refund for a canceled Holland and Belgium river cruise. But two weeks later, Grand Circle pulled back the offer, she said.

"Grand Circle emailed us saying that we had been rebooked on the same cruise next year, with no mention of the refund," Johnson told TPG. "We had a new reservation number and were supposed to go online to accept the terms and conditions."

Related: Can I get my deposit back if I cancel a cruise?

Johnson said calls to the company "resulted in us being told that refunds were no longer an option." Johnson said her group doesn't want to switch their cruise to next year. They just want their money back.

Johnson was one of several members of her group who reached out to TPG and provided documentation of the initial offer of a refund from Grand Circle.

Asked about the group's complaint, a spokesperson for Grand Circle did not address the issue of the withdrawn offer of a refund but said the company was "committed to delivering the excellent travel experiences for which [they have] become known" over six decades in business.

"As soon as it is safe to do so, we will resume our regular departure schedule," spokesperson Ann Shannon said in an email to TPG. "In the meantime, in an effort to ensure that our travelers will be able to enjoy their planned trips, Grand Circle has rebooked their reservations for future available departure dates in 2021 and implemented generous policies providing additional savings."

While Grand Circle has rebooked passengers on canceled sailings for next year, passengers will be able to change the dates that the company has chosen for them, Shannon added.

Soon after TPG contacted Grand Circle, one member of Johnson's group, Barbara Ballard, 64, of Tucson, unexpectedly received the refund she had been seeking from Grand Circle. The refund came with no explanation, but TPG had mentioned Ballard's case specifically when inquiring about Grand Circle's policy. Johnson did not receive a refund at that time. But within 24 hours of this story originally posting, she said the company called to promise her entire group a full refund.

Carnival Cruise Cancellation Policy (3 Different Options!)

Explore Carnival Cruise cancellation policy: 3 clear options for refunds & penalties. Ideal for travelers planning with flexibility. Learn more now!

carnival cruise refund deposit

Carnival Cruise is a popular cruise line with trips around the world available to its clients! Booking a cruise can be exciting, but sometimes plans do not go as smoothly as you would prefer. Cancellation policies can help you decide which trips to book and show you what you could back if you need a refund for your vacation. Carnival Cruise has a pretty straightforward cancellation policy!

Carnival Cruise has three tiers to its cancellation policy. The first is if you cancel before the final payment, where you will receive no penalty. The second is canceling after the final payment, where you will be penalized based on how close you cancel to the start of the trip. Finally, if you cancel a trip booking with a special offer, your refund options vary.

There are different penalties and refund options for these different tiers. The Carnival Cruise cancellation policy can feel a bit confusing and overwhelming. Follow along to learn about the other cancellation options with this cruise line. As well as the various processes to expect if you need to cancel your trip.

What is Carnival Cruise's Cancellation Policy?

carnival cruise refund deposit

The cancellation policy for Carnival cruise may feel overwhelming but is based on the time you cancel in relation to the beginning of your booking. Much like with other reservation companies, cancellations closer to your reservation are less likely to be refunded in full.  There are two main tiers to the cancellation policy for typical cruises.

First is for those who cancel before the final payment, or roughly 90 days before the reservation. Here you will get a full refund for your cruise. For those who cancel after the final payment, the refund and fee breakdown varies depending on the proximity to the upcoming trip. We will break these details down in the next section. Finally, it should be noted that special offers or deals rarely adhere to this standard structure.

This is the simple breakdown of Carnival Cruise's cancellation policy, however, there are a few more details that pertain to each situation.  We will simplify them as much as possible. If you have more questions or a particular case it is best to speak with a Carnival Cruise representative!

What are the Carnival Cruise's Cancellation Options?

carnival cruise refund deposit

Carnival Cruises' cancellation options are solely based on the time you cancel in proximity to the date your cruise leaves.  So there are not necessarily cancellation options, but tiers set of how much of a refund you can expect. The closer to your reservation that you cancel, the more fees you face and the less money you receive back.

You are allowed a 24-hour free cancellation policy, as mandated by law. But beyond that point, you will fit into two main categories, before and after the final payment. If you book with a special promotion, the cancellation policy differs slightly. However, the main date to keep in mind is 90 days before your cruise. That is the cut-off for full refunds and anything after that will face fees.

Cancelling Before the Final Payment

This is the most simple and convent tier of Carnival Cruises' cancellation policy.  If you cancel before you make your final payment, then you are likely to get a full refund . This tends to be about 3 months before you set sail, so you may want to mark that in your calendar just in case.

If you booked a very short cruise, your deadline will be later than a longer cruise. For cruises less than five days, the final payment date is 75 days before sailing. Whereas cruises are 6 days or more, the final payment date is 90 days prior to sailing.  Meaning if you booked a 3 or 4-day cruise than you will have a few more weeks to cancel and get the full refund!

However, if the cruise you booked was of a specific promotion it may be non-refundable for both the deposit and the fare.  So it is great to keep a look out for this if you find an amazing deal but are not sure on if you will be able to make the trip.

Your best chance at getting the most money back is to cancel your cruise at least three months or 90 days before you are supposed to set sail.  You will not face any stiff cancellation fees and have the best chance to get all your money back. This is the best idea regardless of the length of the trip. If you cancel after these dates, then you will face the fees outlined in the next section.

Cancelling After Final Payment

If you need to cancel after the final payment date, you will find a structured penalty system that will deduct from your refund.  Once final payment has been made, cancellation penalties do apply and increase as the departure date approaches. It is best to pull out a calendar and see what penalties you will face depending on when you cancel your cruise.

The first tier is between 89 and 56 days prior to your sailing date, between 12 and 8 weeks of your departure.  Here the penalty is only your standard deposit amount.  The rest of your money will be returned to you if you cancel within these margins.

Next is from 55 days prior to sailing to 30 days prior to sailing.  Between 8 and 4 weeks, the penalty for your cancellation will be 50% of the total fare or the standard deposit amount.  Whichever amount is greater is the fee you will need to pay, with the rest being refunded.

Then there is the tier between 29 to 15 days prior to sailing.  At this point, your fee will be 75% of the total fare or the standard deposit amount, whichever is greater.  This is because it will be more difficult to fill your spot canceling this late.

The final tier is between 14 days and 0 days before sailing to the day of the cruise. Now the penalty is 100% of the total fare. You will not receive your fare returned, but extra packages you may have booked will be.  You will receive no refunds if you are a no show to the reservation.

It should be noted that when calculating the number of days prior to the cruise, the day of sailing is considered the first day of the cruise. If you need to cancel your Carnival Cruise you should do it sooner rather than later. Even after the final payment deadline, you will receive more of a refund the sooner you make the cancellation.

Special Deals

The Early Saver promotion offers great prices to Carnival cruisers.  The company describes it as the lowest available core rate when open. Additionally, these Early Saver promotions provide price protection for up to 2 business days prior to sailing! However, with this promotion, the deposit is non-refundable at any time after the booking is made.

The Early Saver cruise prices are available up to 76 days prior to sailing for short cruises (5 days or shorter) and up to 91 days prior to sailing for long cruises (6 days and longer). Meaning they are available up until the typical final cancellation dates, so there is not much opportunity to get a refund.

If you do book an Early Saver promotion and need to cancel before the final payment, you will be able to get a cruise credit.  The credit is a non-refundable and non-transferable future cruise credit (FCC). Which comes with a $50 per person service fee. You must use this credit within 12 months from the date of cancellation. You can only use this credit with cruise fares and any unused portion will be forfeited.

Another type of promotion is the Super Saver, which can be priced lower than the Early Saver! Unfortunately, it does come with more restrictions. For example, you will not be able to select your cabin with this promotion. The deposit is also non-refundable at any time after the booking is made.

Finally, there are the Pack and Go promotions!  Pack and Go are the last-minute deals available on the cruise line’s website and are great for spontaneous travelers!  However, it does mean these bookings have an even more restrictive policy than Early or Super Savers. You will not be able to customize your package too much and can expect that 100% of the total fare will not be non-refundable any time after the booking is made. So be sure of your trip before you pay for these deals!

How Late Can I Cancel a Cruise?

carnival cruise refund deposit

You can cancel a Carnival Cruise reservation at any time!  There is no restriction on when you can no longer cancel your reservation. However, if you cancel after 14 days before the cruise launches then you will receive no refunds.

One of the worst things you can do is simply not show up to the cruise. You will get none of your money back and it puts the cruise line in a poor situation.  Canceling as early as you can help both yourself and Carnival Cruises immensely, so take action as soon as you can!

There are no fees for canceling before 90 days from your reservation date. After that, the fees increase as the cruise date approaches. But you are not allowed to cancel, you just will not get all of your money back.

To simply break down these fees after the final payment date, take a look here!  This is a quick table to see the fees you would face if you cancel after your final payment:

  • 91 days: you will only need to pay $100 per person
  • 61 to 90 days: you must pay 50% of your gross fare
  • 31 to 60 days: 75% gross fare
  • 0 30 days: you must pay 100% of gross fare

How Long Does It Take For Carnival Cruise's Refund?

carnival cruise refund deposit

Generally speaking, it can take 90 days or more to process a cruise refund.  There is no need to stress if the refund does not return within a few days. This can be for a variety of reasons, but the processing of your request and the transferring of money between accounts tend to take some time. However, it can be frustrating that this processing time does tend to be longer than others.

It is possible to contact a Carnival Cruise representative to try and speed up the process.  It is never a guarantee. With others trying for refunds as well, these phone lines may be busy and exhausting. Both for the representatives and clients themselves. But a calm tone and a few kind words can increase your chances of getting your refund sooner!

You may see a refund before these 90 days, but it is not likely. Patience is the best method after canceling your Carnival Cruise reservation, and it could help you get your refund faster. So do not stress and take it easy, vacation style!

Here is a simple summary of the Carnival Cruise cancellation policy!  The most simple option is to cancel before the final payment date.  Which is between 75 and 90 before the cruise takes off, depending on the length of the cruise. This is the easiest way to get your money back without a large penalty. Otherwise, you will find a bit more hassle and more fees.

The second most important point is if you cancel 14 days before the cruise, then you will face a 100% fare penalty . Unless there is a large weather disturbance or global pandemic, you will see stiff fees for canceling close to the cruise date.  Finally, the cancellation process can take roughly 90 days to process the refund.  So do not be concerned when the refund does not immediately appear in your account!

This is the basic information that you will likely run into if you need to cancel a Carnival Cruise. If you are needing to cancel for a special reason or do not sit within these outlines, then it is best to contact the company. A representative will be able to explain the information you need in more detail, but hopefully, this article gives you a great understanding!

Carnival Cruise Line offers a flexible deposit policy that caters to different types of bookings. Depending on the length of your cruise and the type of stateroom you choose, the deposit amount may vary. It is important to note that the deposit is non-refundable and non-transferable, so it is crucial to be certain of your travel plans before making the payment.

To make a deposit, you can conveniently book your cruise online through the official Carnival Cruise Line website or contact their customer service for assistance. It is recommended to have your preferred sailing dates, stateroom category, and payment details ready when making the booking.

My family was scammed out of a $15k carnival cruise — here’s how i’m fighting to get it back.

A woman went viral sharing how her family was scammed out of her $15,000 Carnival Cruise . She claims that the cruise line won’t refund her or admit fault but has changed its website and policy.

Tiffany Banks was stunned when she realized that the trip she had been planning for a year was canceled without her knowledge and only a day before her family’s flight to catch the boat, she explained in a series of TikToks.

She shared that although the company won’t refund her money or “admit guilt” directly to her, they’ve updated their website and policy to better protect customers from having the same issue — which she insists is “admitting guilt without having to admit guilt.”

“Unfortunately, this guest failed to heed well-documented and very common travel safety and security advice,” a representative from Carnival told The Post.

The Kentucky woman was supposed to board the Carnival Celebration ship with her husband and their four kids to stay in the $12,000 Excel Presidential Suite — the ship’s largest room — and enjoy a whole schedule of excursions.

She claims she discovered that her vacation, which had been paid in full, was a wash after receiving a cancellation confirmation about an off-ship excursion, and she called to investigate.

That was when she learned that her trip had been canceled through the cruise line’s online system, which Banks insisted was not her doing.

Carnival allegedly told her the room they had booked was now reserved by another customer and offered the family two interior rooms — the cheapest on the ship — instead, but the mom denied the change feeling it was an inadequate replacement.

She also said that Carnival refused to offer a full refund; their cancellation policy states that no money will be returned within 15 days of the cruise date.

The family flew to Miami and tried to board the ship anyway, hoping for a last-minute solution, but were forced to watch the ship sail off without them, Banks said in a teary follow-up video.

A few days later, Carnival called Banks back to explain that she was the “victim of a form of identity theft” — but that there was no security breach on Carnival’s part, according to a recording of the call she shared on TikTok.

That was when she learned that she and her husband had accidentally shared their cruise booking reference number when posting a screenshot of an email with the countdown to their vacation on Facebook a few weeks out, she continued in a recent clip.

The same day they posted the booking number on Facebook, someone created an online Carnival account and added the number to their profile.

Then, 48 hours before the cruise sail date, the person canceled the family’s entire cabin booking, the Carnival rep told Banks in the recording.

Banks said Carnival told her that it believes the IP address of the person who canceled was in British Columbia but it was unable to get the identity of the fraudster.

The company offered her future cruise credit for $10,404 contingent on the mom posting on social media “something to the effect of Carnival has now resolved the issue.”

But Banks said she wasn’t interested and questioned the ease with which someone was able to take over her booking with no verification process.

“We’re not sailing with Carnival ever again,” she said.

Banks claims that the attorney general of Florida has reached out to her as she’s now begun looking into taking legal action against Carnival claiming that she’s fighting for everyone who’s been “screwed” over by Carnival

“This is no longer just about me,” Banks said in a video. “This is me now wanting to really make a company change their policies and do what is right.”

“I would love for this to be a class action because big corporations should not be allowed to just take people’s money.”

In her most recent update, she claimed that people have messaged her and let her know that Carnival has updated their website and emailed people reminding them not to share their booking number in bold letters.

A move she believes is practically an admission of guilt.

“With a busy summer travel season underway, we are reminding our guests about several things to make their travel go smoothly,” a representative from Carnival told The Post.

Carnival Cancels Family's $15k Cruise 2 Days Before Sailing and Something's Fishy

When you book a cruise, you're never just booking a cruise. Unless you live in the port city, you've gotta arrange transportation, whether you're flying in or road-tripping it. You also have to take time off work, maybe figure out petsitting, buy new stuff for the trip... overall, it's a big investment of time and money. Now imagine doing all that work in preparation, getting more and more excited with each passing day, only to have your cruise vacation snatched away from you at the last minute.

Meet the Banks family, who booked a $15,000 deluxe cruise with Carnival Cruise Lines a year in advance only for Carnival to abruptly cancel their trip two days before departure. Tiffany Banks, who originally booked the trip, went into panic mode trying to save her cruise vacation, but the more she dug, the fishier things became.

According to Tiffany (aka @thathippiedoc ), they'd booked the Presidential Excel Suite, the largest room on the Carnival Celebration . Between the deluxe cruise cabin, port excursions , bonus perks, and flights, the family had invested nearly $15k into the whole vacation. So when Tiffany found out that her trip had been cancelled the same day they were supposed to fly out, she was "flabbergasted."

Tiffany's efforts to get answers from customer service only led to more questions. The service agents disagreed on whether their reservation had been deleted in their system or cancelled from the Banks' end. Allegedly, the "only" replacement the lead agent could offer was a pair of interior cabins- an embarassing downgrade from the Presidential Excel Suite. A full refund was not on the table, no matter how much Tiffany argued her case.

After getting nowhere over the phone, the Banks family still decided to fly down for a Florida vacation and make the most of a bad situation. However, Tiffany wanted to go to the port one last time and see if she couldn't find a Carnival rep to "make this right"- and that's when the plot thickened.

In a follow-up video , Tiffany claimed that the reps told her that she'd been the victim of identity theft. Someone from British Columbia made a fake profile, added the Banks' booking ID to their online account, and cancelled the cruise. She wasn't too happy with their final offer, either:

"They were offering me a $10,000 onboard credit for future use if I post on social media that there has been positive resolution, even after telling them multiple times that we're not interested in sailing with Carnival ever again," Tiffany claimed.

Who's Really at Fault?

Thousands online sympathized with Tiffany, who never got her refund from Carnival Cruise Lines even after she proved she didn't cancel her own reservation. However, a few people did a little extra digging. A few days after Tiffany's story went viral, TikTok user @cruisinwithjenn posted a video showing where Tiffany had publicly shared her cruise confirmation page on Facebook, inadvertently broadcasting her email and booking ID number to the world.

"Anyone can take this information and your last name and put it into 'Manage My Booking' on Carnival and access your cruise," said Jenn. "Should 'Manage My Booking' be fixed to prevent this- yes. Will it? Probably. But it's the guests responsibility to not post private info."

While Tiffany didn't deserve to be the victim of identity theft, her critcal lack of opsec might be why Carnival refuses to accept fault or issue a refund in her case. As Carnival wrote in a statement issued to LADbible :

"While we are not going to comment on any specific guest complaint or incident, it is never a good idea to post personal information about your travel plan, including a confirmation number for a booking, which could allow a bad actor or identify thief to use that information in inappropriate or even illegal ways."

I don't blame Tiffany for feeling burned by Carnival Cruise Lines, and even when calling Tiffany out, @cruisinwithjenn agreed that Carnival's "Manage My Booking" system is too easy for bad actors to take advantage of with limited information. But let this be a lesson to all prospective cruisers out there- you never know who might be trolling your public posts. Keep your private information close to your chest, and save the public posts for vacation photos instead!
