BTS' Suga begins 1st solo world tour in U.S.

Shim Sun-ah, 심선아

SEOUL, April 27 (Yonhap) -- Suga of K-pop supergroup BTS has kicked off his first world tour as a solo artist in the United States, his agency said Thursday.

The "Suga | Agust D-Day" tour, which started at UBS Arena in Belmont, New York, on Wednesday (U.S. time), will take him to nine cities around the world, including those in Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, Singapore and South Korea for two months, according to BigHit Music.

The rapper will perform tracks on his first official solo album, "D-Day ," which he dropped under his other stage name of Agust D, as well as those on his mixtapes "Agust D" (2016) and "D-2" (2020) during the tour, as the three titles comprise his "Agust D" trilogy.

"The tour focuses on the stories of Suga before and after his debut and facing several turning points and Agust D," the agency said in a release. "The stage setting and the set list will also be made to best showcase the history of his changes and the Agust D trilogy."

Suga expressed his anticipation for the tour, which also marks the first solo world tour by a BTS member.

"I've practiced continuously for this solo tour," he said through the agency. "I feel more comfortable than ever before and am thrilled to meet you ARMY. I hope you will enjoy my shows."

After Belmont, the U.S. section of the tour will continue in Newark, Rosemont, Los Angeles and Oakland until May 17.

BTS rapper Suga has become the first member of the K-pop group to announce a solo world tour.

The group went on hiatus last year and plan to reconvene in a group around 2025, with separate plans to launch their own solo projects and undertake mandatory military service duties . All able-bodied men in their home country of South Korea are legally required to serve a military term of 18-21 months.

Now, Suga has announced a string of tour dates in the US and Asia for later this year. The tour kicks off with two nights in Belmont Park, New York on April 26 and 27, with the artist set to play in four other US cities before playing shows in Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore and South Korea. He will also be performing in Japan, but the dates are yet to be confirmed.

Some eagle-eyed fans also spotted the use of Agust D, Suga’s other stage name, on the poster.

Suga has confirmed he has been working on solo music, but nothing has materialised yet. Three members of BTS – J-hope , Jin and RM – all released solo music in 2022, while Jimin said back in January that he was expecting his debut album to drop “in or around” March . Meanwhile, V and Jungkook have also been confirmed to have their debuts in the works.

Jin, who is the first member of BTS to begin his military service , confirmed that he had completed his five weeks of basic military training last month. He is expected to be discharged from the army in 2024. As the next oldest member of the idol group, Suga is expected to be the next member of the band to enlist in the army.

Suga will become the first BTS member to embark on this journey, with a slate of dates scheduled around the world. Here, we have outlined all the details that you need to know about his upcoming world tour.

Why does this story matter?

It is important to note that in June 2022, all seven members of BTS announced solo careers alongside being a group, and completing their mandatory military service. A rapper, producer, and songwriter, Suga has been ahead of the curve for a few years now. Back in 2016, he came up with a self-titled mixtape as Agust D , followed by another mixtape in 2020, D-2 .

All the details of Suga's upcoming solo tour

The tour will kick off with two shows in Belmont Park, New York on April 26, and will make stops in Newark, New Jersey, and Los Angeles. His US leg will be wrapped with Oakland on May 17. After this, the K-pop sensation will head to Indonesia , Thailand, and Singapore, before returning to South Korea , for two shows on June 24 and 25.

Billed under Suga's name, as well as his stage moniker Agust D, at this time, there's not much information available about the tour outside of its dates. Suga's recent solo activities include launching the much-hyped talk show on YouTube titled Suchwita , featuring conversations with various artists, including SEVENTEEN 's Hoshi, and more. In January, Suga was also announced as a brand ambassador for Valentino.

Here's what each BTS member plans to do

All BTS members (except Jin) are exploring solo projects right now. Singer and dancer Jimin is currently busy with his debut solo album, scheduled to be released in March. Meanwhile, V is involved in an upcoming reality television program Seojin . RM, who released his solo album Indigo , is working on another solo project, whereas J-hope has stated that he is working on something "grand."

RM rules several Billboard charts this week, as his new full-length Right Place, Wrong Person and the tunes featured on his latest solo collection debut. He manages to hit No. 1 on both an albums and a songs tally this frame, as fans of the BTS star were quick to support the talent’s latest release.

One track from the album, “Nuts,” gives RM another No. 1 in the U.S. The tune was a quick sales win–which is common for members of BTS and the group itself–and it brings the superstar back to the top spot on a ranking he’s already ruled several times in the past.

“Nuts” launches at No. 1 on the World Digital Song Sales chart this week. The tally ranks the bestselling “world” cuts in the country. In its first tracking frame, “Nuts” sold 3,581 copies, according to Luminate.

RM scores his fifth champion on the World Digital Song Sales tally this frame. He first topped the roster in 2020, when he joined Younha on her single “Winter Flower,” which became an instant leader. The following year, RM doubled his total count of solo No. 1s with “Don’t,” which was fronted by eAeon.

He then added two more No. 1s on the World Digital Song Sales list in 2022, which proved to be his biggest year on the ranking when looking at the summit. RM was one of five artists credited on the track “Sexy Nukim,” which debuted atop the list. He was joined by Balming Tiger, Omega Sapien, BJ WNJN, and Mudd the Student on the smash. Before the end of that year, he and Youjeen reached the peak with “Wild Flower.”

“Nuts” isn’t RM’s only new win on the purchase-only chart. In fact, the BTS powerhouse controls all of the highest three rungs on the tally this time around.

RM’s “Groin” launches in second place on the World Digital Song Sales list. Just behind that hit comes “Domadachi,” which features Little Simz.

Thanks to his trio of new placements inside the top 10, RM has now scored 22 hits that have reached the region. As a soloist, he’s sent a total of 25 tunes to the list, and almost all of them have cracked the highest tier.

RM also manages to earn a No. 1 on one of Billboard’s albums tallies. Right Place, Wrong Person opens atop the Top Rap Albums list, where it gives the singer—and rapper—his debut champion.

DP World Tour: Sebastian Soderberg hands Linn Grant victory after squandering eight-shot lead at Scandinavian Mixed

Sebastian Soderberg had an eight-shot lead going into the final round at Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed before collapse; Linn Grant becomes first woman to win twice on DP World Tour with win, and shot the best round of the day with seven-under-par 65

Meltdown! Soderberg blows EIGHT-SHOT lead!

Sebastian Soderberg blew an eight-shot lead in a final-round collapse to hand fellow Swede Linn Grant victory at the Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed in Helsingborg.

Soderberg was looking for a first DP World Tour win since 2019, but carded a five-over-par 77 to see the chance of victory fall from his grasp and leave him finishing a stroke back in tied-second at Vasatorps Golfklubb.

A front-nine wobble saw Soderberg's advantage cut to four strokes at the turn, while further bogeys at the 13th and 15th left him just one ahead of Grant - who had already set the clubhouse target after a bogey-free 65 - heading to the par-four last.

Soderberg found the sand with his approach into the final hole and then three-putted from 25 feet, missing the par putt for victory and then agonisingly lipping out from inside two feet for his next effort, with the closing double-bogey dropping him back to 16 under and gifting Grant a remarkable victory.

"Very mixed emotions," said a stunned Grant. "I feel, honestly, terrible for Sebastian at the moment. I don't even have words for it, I can't imagine how he feels. At the same time, I'm just surprised, so surprised, standing here as a winner again, in my home town - amazing."

Grant's remarkable Sunday on home soil

Grant, beginning her final round several groups ahead of Soderberg, flew out of the blocks with four birdies in five holes from the second and added another from six feet at the ninth to reach the turn in 31.

The 24-year-old holed from 15 feet at the tenth for a second successive birdies before ending a run of pars on her back nine with a sensational chip-in from off the final green, seeing her close the lowest round of the day and set a clubhouse target that wasn't beaten.

Grant had been preparing for the possibility of extra holes before having her win confirmed by Soderberg's nightmare finish, with victory at the event - which saw 78 men and 78 women compete for one prize fund and one trophy - her second in three years.

"Honestly, I just tried to go out today and give myself the opportunity, added Grant, who became the first player to overturn a 11-stroke deficit on the final round of a DP World Tour event. "I didn't even think that I had the chance of winning, 11 shots is a huge gap so I just wanted to go out and make as many birdies as possible.

Sebastian Soderberg

"It turned out to be an incredible day, I guess. I'm so speechless at the moment, I can't really believe it."

Soderberg's closing 77 meant he finished in a share of second place alongside Scotland's Calum Hill on 16 under, with Swedish Ladies European Tour star Johanna Gustavsson three shots further back in a tie for fourth with Englishmen Alex Fitzpatrick and Andy Sullivan.

Here are all the details you need to know about this special event.

BangBangCon Livestream Date

The highly anticipated BangBangCon will take place on June 8, 2024.

The concert will stream at 12 pm KST, which is 8:30 am IST.

Where to Watch

Fans can tune in to BTS' official YouTube channel, BANGTANTV, to watch the concert.

2. BTS LIVE TRILOGY EPISODE III THE WINGS TOUR THE FINAL, 2017

3. BTS WORLD TOUR LOVE YOURSELF: SPEAK YOURSELF THE FINAL, 2019

These three concerts span significant milestones in BTS' history, capturing important eras of their music.

BTS LIVE TRILOGY EPISODE II THE RED BULLET (2014) This concert marked BTS' first solo concert as a group, taking place at the YES24 Live Hall (formerly AX Korea) in Seoul. Happening just a year and four months after their debut, the concert featured performances of their debut songs like 'We Are Bulletproof Pt. 2', 'No More Dream', and 'N.O.' It was a three-day event that symbolised the group's new beginnings.

BTS LIVE TRILOGY EPISODE III THE WINGS TOUR THE FINAL (2017) Part of the successful Wings Tour, this concert was held at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul. BTS performed 40 shows in 19 cities, gaining global fame during this period with appearances on the Billboard Music Awards and hit songs like 'DNA'. The tour was attended by 550,000 fans worldwide and included individual performances by each member.

BTS WORLD TOUR LOVE YOURSELF: SPEAK YOURSELF THE FINAL (2019) Held at the Olympic Stadium in Jamsil Sports Complex in Seoul, this concert marked the end of their stadium world tour. The tour included 62 shows in 24 cities, with BTS becoming the first K-pop artists to hold a solo concert at the UK's Wembley Stadium and the first foreign artists to perform at a stadium in Saudi Arabia. The tour drew a crowd of 2,060,000 fans.

Jin , currently serving in the military, will attend a meet and greet session for BTS FESTA 2024. The agency stated that this event will fulfil Jin’s wish to spend meaningful time with ARMY in person on BTS’ debut day. The FESTA schedule, revealed on May 31, includes various activities, releases, and events leading up to their anniversary on June 13.

As part of the celebrations, Jungkook has released his track 'Never Let Go', adding to the excitement of BTS FESTA 2024.

Nasa Hataoka disqualified after first round of the ShopRite LPGA Classic

GALLOWAY, N.J. (AP) — Nasa Hataoka was disqualified from the ShopRite LPGA Classic on Saturday after tournament officials reviewed videotape of her final hole in the first round and found she took too long searching for a lost ball.

Hataoka, who shot a 6-under 65 on the Bay Course at the Seaview Resort and was tied for fourth place, was informed of the disqualification on Saturday. She was scheduled for an afternoon tee time.

In a statement, the LPGA said Hataoka played her second shot on No. 9 into the long fescue surrounding the green. After reviewing video footage provided to the tour following the round, it was determined that the search for Nasa’s ball exceeded the three minutes allowed.

According to the rules, the ball is considered lost after time expires and the player must take the next shot from the same spot as the previous one.

The six-time LPGA winner from Japan found the ball in the fescue after the search time expired and played from that spot.

When Hataoka did not play from where she had previously played from, she played from the wrong place and violated Rule 14.7.

“Because where she played from could give the player a significant advantage compared to the stroke to be made from the right place, this is considered a serious breach of Rule 14.7 with a penalty of disqualification if not corrected in time,” the LPGA said in its statement on X.

Hataoka did not correct the mistake before leaving the scoring area.
