Trip.com took my Money 163.64$ and Never made my Reservation. I have Confirmation and Booking Numbers Confirming the Room. Called Motel 6 and they said no Reservation under my name. I called Credit Card Company and they said I was billed the 163.64$. Called Trip.com and they said they have Nothing under my name.

That said it is also possible that they overbook and will accommodate you in a different hotel instead if it turns out no room is available, so the usual warnings about third party bookings apply. I've used trip.com, it is legit. We got scammed with trip.com. They never actually booked the room with the hotel.

The airline said they have refunded mytrip but my trip just lies and denies it and says I have to contact the airline. They just ignore you or fob you off. A really shoddy and dishonest company. It's a legit booking site naman. But when problems occur (flight cancelations, detail modifications), contacting CS might be a pain. My biggest issue with a 3rd party site is airline will not be able to assist you directly. It's okay if walang maging issues sa booking. Hassle if meron.

tldr: it mostly depends on the destination, but you'll mostly find better deals and have overall good experience via booking.com and Airbnb. The vast majority of all accomodation is available via 3 big players: Booking Holdings, Expedia Group and Airbnb. The first 2 corporations own a large number of brands that they bought over the years.

If you book with Booking/Expedia/Airbnb, the hotel owners or hosts still have reviews they need to manage. Getting delisted from a platform is devastating for the business. Personally booking directly with a hotel is higher risk imo, and only worth it if it's a better deal.
