Customer reviews

I received damage items , I contact with Macys through email long time ago and no response . the press to high so need too much coffee to fill not for 1 cup for 1 person , otherwise the design is nice

Leaks from the lid when sipping the coffee leaving stains on clothing. Creamer cannot be added to the mug because all the grounds will swirl to the top when stirring. Wish I had my receipt because I would return it.

Not the best product. I have a French press at home and love the coffee that it produces but for some reason I cannot replicate it here.

The idea of a travel coffee maker is great but the product itself.... not so much. Very messy and does not press low enough to hit the coffee grinds.

In theory this is the best mug ever. In reality, too much coffee gets stuck below the filter leaving 1/4 of your French press undrinkable.

16 Types of Coffee Makers and How to Find the Best One for You

Consider this your official coffee maker manual.

We've been independently researching and testing products for over 120 years. If you buy through our links, we may earn a commission. Learn more about our review process.

While Derochowski says single serve coffee makers , like Keurig-brand machines, are the largest growing subcategory, sales of espresso makers , pour-over coffee makers, and French presses are also on the rise. But there are many different ways to make coffee — and each method offers a different taste , from bold and robust cold brew , to smooth, creamy French press coffee.

Of course, each type of coffee maker comes with pros and cons, from flavor to convenience to price. To help you decode the mass market of coffee makers and choose the best one to suit your lifestyle and personal preferences, the experts in the Good Housekeeping Institute Kitchen Appliances Lab identified the most popular types of coffee makers, how they work, and who they're best for.

Drip Coffee Maker

Braun pureflavor drip coffee maker.

PureFlavor Drip Coffee Maker

Drip coffee makers are an easy, familiar way to make coffee. They can brew a single cup of coffee or up to 14, though they're not ideal for brewing a single cup. Some drip coffee makers feature an additional brewing system such as a hot water dispenser or a single-serve brewer that is compatible with K-cups for more versatility. There are glass and thermal pots; some people prefer thermal carafes to preserve the temperature of the coffee for hours without overheating it on a hot plate. (Instead of resting on a heating element, coffee is brewed into an insulated carafe that is typically vacuum sealed.)

How it works : Cold water is added the reservoir, and ground coffee is added to a filter. Water heats up and passes through the beans through what looks like a shower head. Brewed coffee is then dispensed into a glass carafe that sits atop a hot plate, which keeps the coffee warm.

Who it's best for : Traditionalists, families, entertaining.

Pour-Over Coffee Maker

Chemex pour-over glass coffee maker.

Pour-Over Glass Coffee Maker

Brewing coffee using a pour over is one of the more gentle brewing methods. Pour-overs can be used over a single mug or larger carafe to make a full-bodied cup of coffee. Unfortunately, the glass design isn't very insulating, so the coffee does cool more quickly.

How it works: Medium-coarse grounds are placed in a cone shaped funnel with a filter. Hot water is added to the grounds in batches; the first time to “bloom” the coffee grounds, and the second time to fully brew them. As the water filters through the grounds, it empties into a single cup or carafe, resulting in a rich, full-bodied cup of coffee.

Who it's best for : Single-cup coffee lovers.

Single-Serve Capsule Coffee Maker

Keurig k-cafe coffee maker.

K-Cafe Coffee Maker

Keurig was amongst the first brands to introduce capsule machines, which have changed the way traditional drip coffee is made: A fresh cup of coffee at the touch of a button. Most have water reservoirs so you don't have to fill your coffeemaker with water every time and come in a wide variety of styles, from just one coffee cup size to a wide range that can accommodate a large to-go cup. Just note: These types of machines do produce more waste than others, plus the coffee doesn't tend to be as sophisticated.

How it works: Using the same method as drip coffee but on a smaller scale, these machines use pre-ground and measured pods to deliver a consistent cup of coffee every time. A pre-set amount of hot water runs through the grounds directly into your mug. The filter is located in the pod so you don’t have to worry about emptying the grinds — just toss the pods in the trash.

Who it's best for : Anyone who wants a quick, easy way to make a variety of coffee drinks, but doesn't want to brew a full pot. They're popular for businesses, too. These machines don’t require a lot of maintenance and customers can pick their favorite flavor or drink.

French Press Coffee Maker

Bodum chambord french press coffee maker.

Chambord French Press Coffee Maker

A French Press works by gently steeping coffee grounds in just-boiled water to make a full-bodied cup of coffee. The longer you steep the coffee, the stronger the flavor, although four minutes is the recommended amount of time. We love the control this provides, but recommend the extra step of heating the carafe first to ensure coffee doesn't cool too quickly.

How it works : Combine coarse to medium-ground coffee with just-boiled water, and add the lid to the carafe so it can steep. After a few minutes, slowly push down the plunger (equipped with a fine-mesh filter) to move the grounds to the bottom of the carafe.

Who it's best for : Coffee aficionados who love the taste of full-bodied coffee or want to bring out the flavor of high-quality coffee.

AeroPress Coffee Maker

Aeropress aeropress coffee and espresso maker.

AeroPress Coffee and Espresso Maker

In addition to making espresso and Americanos, the AeroPress can also make cold brew coffee by allowing the grounds to steep for one minute instead of 10 seconds. People love that it's quick and easy to clean (though all parts do need to be individually washed each time), especially in comparison to French presses, which work similarly. Now, the brand also makes a portable version with nesting parts. Our team liked it so much that it won a 2023 Kitchen Gear Award . It's incredibly easy to use and great for the office for a quick brew at your desk.

How it works: Add one rounded tablespoon of finely ground coffee to the base for every espresso-sized shot you'd like to make. Heat water to 170ºF; use it to fill the base up to desired cup marking. Place the filter in the cap, screw it onto the base, and then place the base over a mug. Stir coffee grounds for ten second and then use included plunger to carefully push water down (this requires more force than a traditional French press), through the grounds, into the mug.

Who it's best for: Strong coffee lovers who are looking for a quick and easy way to make one cup at a time .

Cold Brew Coffee Maker

Oxo cold brew coffee maker.

Cold Brew Coffee Maker

Traditional iced coffee is made by pouring already brewed coffee over ice, but the cold brew method does not use any heat, which results in a rich and full-bodied brew. There are many ways to make cold brew, including steeping it in a large container, but most require a large amount of coffee and can take up to 24 hours from start to finish.

How it works : Cold brew coffee is made by steeping coarsely ground coffee beans in room temperature or cold water overnight. The brewed coffee is then dispensed into another container for servings. It can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 14 days, and, in addition to being served over ice, can be used as a concentrate to make hot coffee.

Who it's best for : Those who like a fuller, deeper, more flavorful cup of coffee – cold or hot.

Espresso Coffee Maker

De'longhi la specialista espresso machine.

La Specialista Espresso Machine

Like coffee, there are a lot of ways to make espresso , which is a type of coffee drink that uses dark roasted beans and a fine grind. It’s a lot more concentrated than drip coffee and served in a smaller cup, but these machines can be a little tricky to master, depending on which type you select.

How it works: Espresso can be made using a manual, semi-automatic, automatic, or super-automatic machine. They all work by heating water and running it through pressed coffee grounds at high pressure.

  • Manual machines require you to control all the variables, including tamping, creating pressure, and water flow. These are great for expert espresso drinkers who are very particular about their espresso and enjoy doing things from scratch.
  • S emi-automatic machines control the pressure, but allow you to control how much water you want to use. These are good for coffee drinkers who like strong coffee and want to be able to make both espresso and Americanos.
  • Automatic machines control the pressure and amount of water. Some have built in coffee grinders. They are perfect for people who'd like to make fuss-free espresso at home.
  • Super-automatic machines do everything for you; all you have to do is select the type of espresso drink you'd like and the machine will automatically grind the right amount of beans and dispense the drink according to pre-programmed settings, making them great for those who want press-and-go espresso.
  • Capsule machines make espresso and coffee drinks using pods with pre-measured espresso or coffee grounds. Most capsule machines require you to select the size of the drink you'd like to make, but others, like the Nespresso VirtuoPlus, detect the barcode on the capsule and brew the perfect size automatically. Ideal for people who want to be able to make a consistent cup of espresso or espresso drink with little effort.

Who it's best for: People who enjoy rich, concentrated coffee. The exact type depends on your preferences and lifestyle — capsule machines are more convenient, but some like the control manual machines give them over the end result.

Capsule Espresso Coffee Maker

De'longhi nespresso vertuoplus coffee and espresso machine.

Nespresso VertuoPlus Coffee and Espresso Machine

Like capsule coffee makers, these convenient machines make espresso and coffee drinks using small pre-measured capsules of espresso or coffee grounds. The VertuoPlus shown here is one of our favorites, because it's one of the most affordable Nespresso machines out there, but it still has a sleek design, plenty of features and delivers a hot and well-rounded drink with a luxurious, thick crema. It does, however, only accept Nespresso Vertuo pods.

How it works : It really couldn't be easier to operate a capsule espresso machine. Most machines require you to select drink size (some, like the Nespresso VirtuoPlus, detect the barcode on the capsule and brew automatically) and hit start.

Who it's best for : Espresso lovers who want to marry taste and convenience.

Stovetop Coffee Maker

Bialetti 6 cup moka stovetop espresso maker.

6 Cup Moka Stovetop Espresso Maker

A Moka pot is a popular coffee maker that produces a very strong brew that's comparable to espresso, but, according to the Italian Espresso National Institute, doesn’t qualify as espresso because it doesn’t use the required nine bars of pressure. It still produces a very dark cup of coffee, however, and can be used as a solid base for cappuccinos and lattes. Just be careful not to scorch it!

How it works : Water is added to the bottom container, and fine grounds are added to the filter located at the top. The heat generates steam, which creates pressure, causing the water on the bottom to flow through the beans and brew into the top compartment.

Who it's best for : Espresso lovers who like a deep, dark cup of coffee.

Grind and Brew Coffee Maker

Breville grind control coffee maker.

Grind Control Coffee Maker

Some drip coffee makers feature a grinder that can grind coffee beans immediately before brewing. Many people like this style of brewing because it ensures the freshest-tasting coffee.

How it works : Select the amount of coffee you'd like to brew and watch the machine automatically grind the corresponding amount of beans into the brew basket. As with regular coffee grinders , some grind and brews have blade grinders and some have burr grinders. Both need to be rinsed after every use.

  • Blade grinders have a single blade that grind beans like a food processor by chopping them.
  • Burr grinders are made up of two pieces of hard material that grind the beans as they pass in between the two; they allow for more precision and consistency.

Who it's best for: Grind and brews are appealing to drip coffee drinkers who like to grind their coffee at home and simplify the process.

Turkish Coffee Maker (Ibrik)

Hic harold import co. turkish coffee warmer and butter melting pot.

Turkish Coffee Warmer and Butter Melting Pot

Turkish/Greek coffee is made on the stove using a very small pot. This method produces very strong, unfiltered coffee. Some people like to add sugar or other seasonings like cinnamon or cardamom right to the pot while brewing, which infuses the flavor. Like espresso, it's enjoyed from a small cup.

How it works : Water is mixed with very finely ground coffee until the mixture just starts to boil. Coffee is then transferred to a cup where the grounds settle to the bottom. Timing is key here and, even if you nail it, there will be sediment in the bottom of the cup.

Who it's best for : Coffee drinkers who like strong coffee that's quick and easy to make.

Steeped Coffee

Steeped coffee breakwater blend.

Breakwater Blend

Some brands package coffee in tea bags that can be made the same way as tea: Steeped. Specialty coffee packaged in compostable baggies makes it easy to enjoy a good, full-bodied cup of coffee on the go, though some users say the taste doesn't measure up to other, more complicated methods of brewing coffee. We beg to differ about the version pictured here, which was a 2022 Kitchen Gear Award winner . Testers loved the convenience and the fact that the bags are compostable, plus said the taste measured up. The organic French roast is “roasty” with notes of caramel.

How it works : Just like a tea bag: Put the coffee sachet into a mug and add hot water. Steep for five to six minutes.

Who it's best for: Frequent travelers and those who value convenience over everything — you only need hot water to get a cup of coffee.

Vietnamese Coffee Maker (Phin)

Thang long vietnamese coffee filter set.

Vietnamese Coffee Filter Set

A phin is similar to a small pour-over. It's made of metal and uses finer ground beans.

How it works : Small holes on the bottom allow hot water to drip through it after it has passed through the grounds. It typically brews into a cup that is filled with a small amount of sweetened condensed milk. It's a long process and you can only make one cup at a time, but fans say it's worth the effort.

Who it's best for: Single-cup coffee drinkers who like strong coffee .

Percolator Coffee Maker

Black+decker 12-cup percolator.

12-Cup Percolator

Percolators existed long before drip coffee machines. They produce very hot (some say too hot!) flavorful cups of coffee with a strong aroma. Some can be used on the stove, while others are electric.

How it works : Heated water passes through a tube and repeatedly saturates coarse coffee grounds located on the top of the machine.

Who it's best for : Those who really like hot coffee.

All-in-One Coffee and Espresso Maker

Spinn espresso & coffee machine.

Espresso & Coffee Machine

Love it all? Or have a family member with distinctly different tastes? An all-in-one machine like SPINN's Espresso and Coffee Machine is worth the splurge. It uses whole beans to make American coffee, Americanos, espresso, cold brew, nitro cold brew and more — basically everything you could ever want without much of a learning curve. Our only hangup is that you can only use one type of bean at a time.

How it works : Simply load your favorite whole beans into the machine and it will grind them to order based on your selections.

Who it's best for : Anyone who wants all the options and families with varying preferences.

How to Make French Press Coffee, According to a Barista

If you want an easy way to make coffee at home, it’s hard to go wrong with a French press.

bodum travel press coffee maker

The Ratio of Water and Coffee for French Press

How to use a french press, equipment you’ll need, other uses for your french press, troubleshooting french press coffee, frequently asked questions, our expertise.

Food & Wine / Ashley Rodriguez

Whether you received a French press as a homecoming gift, stocked up on one as an essential tool for your dorm room, or purchased one in an earnest attempt to make more coffee at home, most people have likely interacted with or even own a French press.

Why use a French press?

Because of the use of pressure resulting in concentrated grounds, the coffee is rich, full-flavored, and full-bodied. It's also customizable and, at its core, simple: The generally affordable brewer whose international name helps dress it up uses a deceptively straightforward technique: Pour hot water on top of ground coffee, let it sit, and press.

While there's nothing complicated about the ubiquitous brewer, to truly make a great cup of coffee, you must understand how it brews and what to look out for — and that's not just limited to coffee. You can use it to strain tea leaves, make milk foam, and even strain stocks . One corner of the internet is using the tool to make sangria .

But if you're looking to master the traditional method, here's everything you need to know to get the most out of your French press for coffee.

Food & Wine / Ashley Rodriguez

When looking for a French press recipe, you might look for specifics, like the exact amount of coffee to use and the precise volume of water. Some recipes provide that, but some French press recipes (and any coffee recipe, for that matter) rely more on ratios — or the relationship between coffee and water — and it's helpful to know this ratio to scale up or down. Whether brewing a single cup for yourself or brewing for a crowd, the ratio will stay the same, but the amount you brew changes. This is also helpful when considering the size of your French press: If a recipe calls for 600 grams of water, but your French press can only hold 400, you can use a ratio to adjust the recipe.

Most brewing recipes recommend using one gram of coffee to 16 grams of water (you'll see this written out as a 1:16 ratio), but that's not a hard and fast rule. "Don't be afraid to experiment and try new recipes and make it your own," says Iaisha Munnerlyn, Educator and Coffee Consultant at Tradecraft Coffee & Tea . "I can't stress enough how important it is to make your coffee ritual yours; you enjoy the cup better."

Although it's helpful to start with a ratio, Munnerlyn cautions sticking to a specific one. "I think people often get stuck on recipes and ratios, so I love advice encouraging people to experiment and taste until they find something they like."

So feel free to experiment! Start with a 1:15 or 1:16 ratio (our recommended recipe uses a 1:15 ratio), and see what you think. If the coffee tastes too intense or overpowering, try a ratio with more water, like 1:17 or 1:18. If you want your coffee to pack more punch, try a more concentrated ratio.

For this recipe, we'll assume you're using a 1-liter French press, the most common size brewer. However, feel free to adjust the numbers using your preferred ratio of coffee to water.

  • Boil water: You'll want to use fresh, filtered water and boil more than you need to brew since you'll be using some to preheat the brewer. For this recipe, we'll ask you to use 600 grams of water plus more for preheating.
  • Warm the press: Most French presses are made of glass or steel, which need to be preheated so the temperature stays consistent during brewing (water that isn't hot enough might not extract, or pull out the flavor, from the ground coffee). You don't need much water to preheat — pour a few grams, put your hands around the French press, and wait until it feels warm.
  • Measure and grind Your beans: Your preferred ratio is up to you—for this recipe, we're going 1:15, so we'll grind 40 grams of coffee. But you can adjust to taste (if you want to do a 1:16 ratio, use 37 grams of coffee). Another thing to consider is grind size. Many recipes call for a coarse grind, but that's also up to you. "I believe you can always tweak a recipe to fit your liking, and that goes for the grind settings as well," says Munnerlyn. "At the end of the day, it's for you to drink." In the pictures above, we used a Fellow Ode grinder set at 8 (their grinder has a dial between 1-11), so not the coarsest setting — the grinds look about the size of flaky sea salt.
  • Bloom your beans: Pour all your water and let the coffee and water sit for about a minute. This is called blooming the coffee — allowing some of the CO2 in the beans to de-gas. CO2 can interfere with extraction, so you want to let some of the gasses in the beans escape.
  • Sit and stir: As you bloom, the coffee will form a crust on top, so take a spoon or wooden stick and stir the slurry. This also helps break up any dry clumps and ensure the grounds are saturated evenly. Put the plunger on top (but don't press) to keep the water hot, and let sit for three more minutes.
  • Press and decant: Press the plunger to filter the brewed coffee from the grounds. If you can, decant the coffee into a separate container or immediately into coffee mugs — the grounds at the bottom will continue to "brew" if the coffee is left in the French press.
  • Enjoy!

A French Press

You can use any French press you can find, but we tested some industry favorites and landed on the classic Bodum Chambord as our top pick for its simplicity and elegance. If you're looking to play with filtration (most French presses have a pretty standard mesh filter), look to the Espro line of presses , which we also love. Their plungers feature a much finer mesh filter meant to capture the soot and fine particles that can sometimes be left behind in a French press.

A Burr Grinder

Storing coffee beans and then grinding them whole ensures you preserve all the aromas and flavors a bean offers. That's especially true for a French press, where some of the coffee's oils contribute positively to the mouthfeel but can muddle some flavors, so a precise burr grinder is essential versus a blade grinder where the particles can come out all different sizes. While we used a Fellow Ode grinder for this experiment (named on our list of best coffee grinders ), we also like the Bodum Bistro Premium Burr Grinder for its range of grind settings and affordability.

Bodum Bistro Premium Burr Grinder

An electric kettle.

One perk of a French press is that you don't need to be precise with how you pour. Many coffee recipes call for a gooseneck kettle to ensure precision, but you can use any hot water kettle for a French press. During our testing of the best electric kettles , we found that we like the Zwilling Enfinigy for its cool touch and hold features, so if you walk away from the kettle, it'll still be hot for up to 30 minutes.

Zwilling Enfinigy Electric Kettle

If you zoom backward and look at the French press as a tool, it's a device that can filter things. Loose-leaf tea connoisseurs might be familiar with tea brewers that look very similar to French presses, so if you want to make it a multitasker, follow our guide to brewing tea in your French press . You can also use the brewer to filter stocks and broths, but be diligent about cleaning afterward if you go this route.

Another clever way to use a French press is to use it as a milk frother . Pushing the plunger up and down introduces air into the milk, which creates the foam you're used to seeing on your favorite drinks like lattes and cappuccinos. It takes some muscle, but you'll see the milk expand and get bubbly after a bit.

French press coffee is unique in that there's no paper filter — it's a full immersion method, and the plunger serves as the filter at the end of the brewing process. "No filter needed! All you need is hot water, a French press, and ground coffee," says Munnerlyn. "It also allows more room to control the result because you can play around with different variables. i.e., grind settings and water temperature."

But one of the hiccups when brewing French press coffee is that most people leave their coffee in the French press after plunging, but, as Munnerlyn notes, "the longer you have the coffee steeping, the more bitter flavor notes you pull from the grounds." Pour your finished coffee into a decanter or directly into mugs.

Another thing to consider is the coffee you'd like to brew. Like grind settings, this is a matter of choice and preference, but one way to think about brewing generally is to think about flavor clarity and body on two ends of a spectrum. Brewers with heavy-duty filters (think the three-layer filters on the Chemex ) offer more flavor clarity, so floral, light-roasted coffees tend to shine.

On the other hand, because of its metal filter, a French press allows oils and sediment to end up in your cup, making for a unique and pleasant body but might mask the flavor. "Bold and dark [roasted coffees] hold up so well in a French press," says Munnerlyn. "Get a bit fancy and add some milk. Perfection!"

Also — and we cannot emphasize this enough — clean your French press. If your coffee ever tastes rancid or weird, it's likely because it hasn't been cleaned properly, and we'd estimate that most brewing problems with a French press are due to dirty filters and old oils.

Can you use regular ground coffee in a French press?

Absolutely! Try it out. There's nothing inherent to a French press, meaning you have to use one type of grind setting, so give it a whirl and see what you think. One reason many recipes recommend using a coarser grind is the longer brew time of the French press. The longer coffee interacts with water, the more flavors you'll pull out of the grounds, but there's a limit when the flavors go from pleasant to bitter (that's why you see very fine grind settings for quick brew methods, like espresso, and medium ones for 2-3 minute brews, like a V60 or Chemex ).

Does coffee get stronger the longer it sits in a French press?

"Stronger" might be the wrong word. Technically, your coffee will get "stronger" because it'll pull more out of the coffee as it sits. But there's a sweet spot where you pull just the right mix of soluble components before bitterness starts to creep in. That's why you want to decant your coffee after brewing.

How do I clean my French press?

Most French presses can be cleaned by hand with soap and water and occasionally should be cleaned with a dedicated coffee cleaner to lift oils and water scale buildup. But more people need to take apart and clean each component of the plunger. There are three pieces to most plungers, which act as the filter for the French press. Because there's no paper filter, these pieces can easily get caked with oils and spent grounds. Make sure to take these pieces apart every few brews and soak them in a dedicated coffee cleaning solution. In general, it's a good idea to clean any type of coffee maker with each use.

How long to leave coffee in French press before pressing?

After first blooming your grounds for about a minute (or pouring water and letting the coffee and water sit for about a minute to allow some of the CO2 in the beans to de-gas), place the plunger on top (but don't press) to keep the water hot, and let sit for three more minutes.

Can you over-steep coffee in a French press?

Yes, if the coffee sits too long, it will over-extract and become too bitter.

Amazon Prime Day, the giant online retailer’s giant online sale, has traditionally happened sometime around the middle of July. And while Amazon hasn’t released the actual Prime Day dates yet, it seems likely to hit sometime in that window again. And we’ll make sure to hit you with the best Prime Day coffee maker deals on automatic espresso machines, drip coffee makers , burr grinders and everything else you need to make a good cup of coffee as they become available. While we’re waiting for the expected discounts from most of the big players in the world of coffee machines like Breville, Nespresso , and De’Longhi, Amazon does have a handful of deals available for Prime members right now.

For the most part, the available sales at this point don’t include what we necessarily consider the best coffee makers or best espresso machines , but as ever, anything we recommend on this page, including during the sales event, has gotten hands-on use by and approval from at least one Bon Appétit editor (and sometimes several). And we believe they are quality machines.

Right now you can pick up two of our favorite burr grinders—one manual, one electric—a single serve coffee maker that we think puts the whole line of Keurig machines and their K-cups to shame and a programmable 10-cup coffee maker that can make both hot or iced coffee and comes with a thermal carafe. Make sure to check back here as more sales come online for espresso makers for your lattes and cappuccinos and what we’re sure will be a whole range of Nespresso machine deals.

The Unique Burial of a Child of Early Scythian Time at the Cemetery of Saryg-Bulun (Tuva)

<< Previous page

Pages:  379-406

In 1988, the Tuvan Archaeological Expedition (led by M. E. Kilunovskaya and V. A. Semenov) discovered a unique burial of the early Iron Age at Saryg-Bulun in Central Tuva. There are two burial mounds of the Aldy-Bel culture dated by 7th century BC. Within the barrows, which adjoined one another, forming a figure-of-eight, there were discovered 7 burials, from which a representative collection of artifacts was recovered. Burial 5 was the most unique, it was found in a coffin made of a larch trunk, with a tightly closed lid. Due to the preservative properties of larch and lack of air access, the coffin contained a well-preserved mummy of a child with an accompanying set of grave goods. The interred individual retained the skin on his face and had a leather headdress painted with red pigment and a coat, sewn from jerboa fur. The coat was belted with a leather belt with bronze ornaments and buckles. Besides that, a leather quiver with arrows with the shafts decorated with painted ornaments, fully preserved battle pick and a bow were buried in the coffin. Unexpectedly, the full-genomic analysis, showed that the individual was female. This fact opens a new aspect in the study of the social history of the Scythian society and perhaps brings us back to the myth of the Amazons, discussed by Herodotus. Of course, this discovery is unique in its preservation for the Scythian culture of Tuva and requires careful study and conservation.
