With 3 different types of cruise boat to choose from, you will not struggle to find something that fits your needs. MV Makumbi and MV Mambushi are based at the Victoria Falls Waterfront. These boats offer a more affordable Zambezi River Cruise experience for the more budget conscious. Sunset cruises on either of these boats can sometimes bring a party atmosphere along with them. Needless to say, all local spirits, beers and soft drinks are included in the price of your cruise, as is the food served on board.

The Zambezi River cruises will take you along the river boundary of the Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park, around Siloka Island and back with plenty of opportunities for game viewing, bird watching and sunset photo opportunities. The day time cruises last for about an hour and a half and the sunset cruise lasts for two hours.

Things you may see along the way – Elephant, hippo, crocodile, various antelope, Buffalo, bee-eaters, fish eagle, zebra and giraffe to name a few.

The Ra-Ikane is named after the instrumental guide who accompanied and assisted Livingstone in his monumental discovery of the majestic Victoria Falls. The design of the Ra-Ikane enables it to position passengers closer to the water, further up the Zambezi River, and closer to the banks in the shallow water. The boat represent the grace of a bygone era and honours the rich history of Victoria Falls and its explorers, adventurers and heroes.

Motor: 2 x 50 hp Mercury 4 stroke outboard engines Passengers: 56 max Cruises: Dinner Moondancer is a double decker dinner cruise boat with the kitchen upstairs and a capacity of up to 56 pax for dinner. Moondancer is a fibre glass boat with pontoon type hulls, which allows you to enter shallower waters and channels allowing you better game viewing opportunities. Before booking a Zambezi River Cruise in Victoria Falls, please read some of the below more frequently asked questions about cruising on the Zambezi River in Victoria Falls.

Guests of all ages are welcome of a Zambezi River Cruise. Children under 12 pay half price and children 2 and younger are free.

Although wildlife sightings are not guaranteed on a Zambezi River cruise, with the banks of the Zambezi National Park flanking each cruise, you’ll be likely to spot elephants, hippos, crocodiles, a range of antelope species and a range of exciting birdlife.

Your safety and enjoyment is our main concern. Your Victoria Falls River Cruise may be delayed due to weather conditions. Normally rainstorms only last about half an hour, so be patient,  we will try to ensure you get to experience your cruise. If it starts raining while you are on your cruise, rain flaps on the side of the boat will drop down to keep you dry.

National Parks fees are not part of the Zambezi River Cruise price. They are an additional fee charged by the Government to help maintain the Zambezi River and the surrounding National Park areas. These fees are to paid on arrival before your cruise and are US$10 per adult and US$5 per child.

The water level of the Zambezi River varies remarkably throughout the year. The Victoria Falls region receives seasonal rainfall, and therefore the amount of water flowing over the Victoria Falls changes drastically.

The water level is at its lowest point around November each year. At this time of year the water falls mainly in the deeper section of the river on the Zimbabwean side of the Falls. During the low water season some areas of the Zambian side dry up completely leaving a gigantic crack of exposed bare rock in the earth. This may not be as spectacular as the Victoria Falls in full flood.

The water level is at its highest between April and May. During these months the Victoria Falls are a thundering wall of falling water and the spray from the falls can obscure the view.

So which time of year is best to experience a Zambezi River Cruise in Victoria Falls? The real answer is all year round. During the dryer months between June and September you are more likely to spot wildlife on the banks of the river. However a Zambezi River Cruise is a "not to be missed" opportunity no matter what time of year you are visiting Victoria Falls.

During the Jurassic Period (150-200 million years ago), volcanic activity resulted in thick basalt deposits covering large parts of Southern Africa. As the lava cooled and solidified, cracks appeared in the hard basalt crust, which were filled with clay and lime. Erosion and the course of the mighty Zambezi River cut through these softer materials, forming the first of a series of waterfalls.

• Description

There are several different options for a sunset cruise along the upper river. Those looking for a social cruise may prefer to go on the “ Booze Cruise ” – a great way to have fun and see the amazing sunset at the same time. Drinks, snacks & a BBQ are included.  This collects daily from Fawlty Towers between 3 and 4pm and must be booked by at lunchtime on the day of departure.

For those looking for a mellower cruise, the Lady Livingstone, or the African Queen might suit you better. These beautiful colonial style boats provide drinks and snacks with waiter service. Again collection is between 3 and 4pm and bookings do need to be made in advance. These are all luxury cruise options with excellent nibbles on board.

The most recent addition to the cruise options is The Lion King of the Victoria Falls serving high quality alcoholic beverages and delicious snacks, and a Full Moon Dinner Cruise on the African Queen / African Princess , serving a 3 course dinner.

Full Day Chobe Trip from Livingstone, Zambia. Enjoy game viewing in this iconic park. Chobe National Park is well known for its large herds of elephant that frequent the Chobe River on a daily basis. In the dry season an estimate of up to 85,000 elephants can be dispersed within the Chobe National Park, where the majority of them can be found along the river. Apart from the herds of elephants, Chobe also has lots more to offer. The Park has lion, leopard, buffalo and a whole host of antelope like sable, puku, kudu, eland, roan and many others which you can get to see. The river is filled with big pods of hippos and some of the biggest crocodiles in Africa.

This tour departs daily to the Chobe National Park in Botswana. Clients will be transferred to the Kazungula border where their Botswana guide will meet them. They will proceed straight to the morning cruise where they will spend the morning game viewing along the Chobe River. The cruise will end at around 12h30 and clients will go to a hotel on the riverbank for lunch. After lunch, guests will board safari vehicles for an afternoon game drive in the Chobe National Park. Following this they will be taken back to the Kazungula Border where they will be met by their Zimbabwean guide for their return transfer to Victoria Falls.

Visas may be required for this tour (for guests own account). Chobe National Park entrance fee & Kazungula Bridge Levy not included. Transfers outside Livingstone, Zambia

07:00 to 07:30 – Guests will be picked up from their hotel, in a closed bus, and proceed on a 70km journey through the countryside to the Kazungula border. • 08:30 – Arrival at the Kazungula Border, where guests will exit Zimbabwe/Zambia and enter Botswana. At the border guests will change vehicles and are met by their Botswana guide. • 08:45 – Once guests have gone through Botswana immigration, they will take a short drive to Chobe Marina Lodge. • 09:00 to 09:15 – Arrival at the hotel, where guests will have a short bathroom break, and will also be required to fill out the Park Entry form. • 09:30 – Depart on guests’ first activity; either game drive or boat cruise. If guests would like to go on a specific activity first, then they should please specify. • 12:30 – Return to the hotel for lunch. This will be served either a la carte or buffet style, with a selection of traditional and modern day meals to choose from. • 13:30 – Depart for guests’ second activity. This will be the activity of which guests will have not done yet. If guests did boat cruise in the morning, then they will do a game drive in the afternoon and vice versa. • 16:00 – Return from the Park and head back to the Kazungula Border. • 16:30 – Guests will meet their Wild Horizons bus and are transported back to their hotel. • 17:30 – Arrive at guests’ hotel.

The day trip to Chobe from Livingstone was excellent. The organisation, picking us up from our hotel, taking us to the Botswana border and through passport control and to the next guide was seamless both there and on the return. Chobe was a delight, both the river safari and jeep safari was exceptional and we saw loads of elephants, hippos, lions, giraffe, impala and warthogs amongst many other species of bird and fauna. - Helen

There were four people total in our car -- picked up from our hotel and taken to the ferry terminal. Up to this point, everything was going smoothly. We were transported to the other side -- and told that we would be met by the company/people who would be taking us to Chobe. We were not given the name of the company or any other information. We sat and waited, and watched as other people came across, were met by their guides, gone into their cars and left. Nobody seems to know why our vehicle/driver/guide was not there or even if they were just delayed (but on their way) or not coming at all. This was a rather frustrating start. We all would have understood if the driver was delayed. These things happen but the guests/clients should be informed. It is easier to be understanding and accommodating when we are kept in the loop. Instead, we encountered people who just shrugged their shoulders. I strongly recommend that you instruct your drivers and employees, particularly at the ferry crossing and the Botswana side, to take this onboard. Once we did get underway, the trip improved significantly. The boat ride was wonderful. The land part was rushed - and most of us felt like we missed out on incredible photo moment. At least six people in our party would have preferred to have gone BACK OUT on the boat in the afternoon...so two boat rides instead of boat ride followed by a drive. I think the excursion could be greatly improved by offering the clients a choice. - Arif

The Chobe day trip from Livingstone was wonderful. Our driver was on time and gave us lots of information on the local area as we proceeded to the border crossing. The next driver was ready for us and the transition into Botswana was smooth. The 2nd driver was very informative as well. We had an excellent river safari with the vessel crew. Lunch was good at the Chobe lodge. The land based safari in Chobe National Park was very interesting . At the end of our safari the transitioning was smooth again. I was very pleased with our day trip. The views along the Chobe River were beautiful and loaded with wildlfe - Joseph
