507 baseball academy in st. peter, mn to open summer 2021.

Blizzard 507 to hold tryouts in mid-June for late summer & fall program

The Minnesota Blizzard baseball program will be expanding this summer to southern Minnesota in partnership with the 507 Baseball Academy based out of St. Peter, MN.

The 507 Baseball Academy, a newly-built facility in St. Peter and only minutes away from the Gustavus Adolphus baseball field, will have cages, turf, pitching mounds and a workout area for athletes and will be the home to the Blizzard 507 teams.

Getting started ...

When long-time Blizzard coaches and current Gustavus Adolphus coaches Ben Moore and Andrew Woitas pitched the idea of partnering with the Minnesota Blizzard baseball teams, the decision was a simple one.

"I have been a coach with the Minnesota Blizzard program for 10 years," Gustavus Assistant Andrew Woitas said.  "Being able to be a part of the Blizzard family long-term was something that was really important to Ben and myself.  The transition will be seamless.  (Adam) Barta will play a big part of the team process and we will be able to expand the outreach to a lot of really talented players down here in the 507 area."

Moore, who pitched for the New York Yankees organization and played several seasons in independent league baseball, looks forward to both the Academy side and Blizzard 507 teams as well.

"I really enjoy players who are looking to get better," Moore said.  "And I think our staff is cutting edge in the player development area.  We'll have some technology here and people who know how to read and teach it.  At the same time, with the experience of all the coaches, we'll also be able to impact a lot of players through hard work, teaching proper fundamentals and repetitions in a new facility that will be for all ages and talent levels."

The year-one focus is to create teams in southern Minnesota and the southern suburbs for those who want to be a part of the Minnesota Blizzard but may not be able to make the drive to Vadnais Heights or Edina on a weekly basis. Players and parents should expect the same consistency in coaching, training, competitiveness and culture players have been accustomed to since 2003 at our new academy in St. Peter, MN -  507 Baseball Academy .

Teams will play in local and national tournaments (optional), have a full practice schedule from August-November and receive coaching from top tier instructors in Minnesota.

Our goal in 2021 is to create one Blizzard 507 team at each age level (10u, 11u, 12u, 13u, 14u, 15u, 16u, Varsity). Each player and team will have the option of traveling in the winter.

The standards and expectations of the Blizzard program are very high. We expect the players to perform at a high level of baseball which can be measured in many different ways.  For the Blizzard 507 program - it is about desire, dedication, and determination and being the best player, person, and team you can be.

About the Blizzard

The Minnesota Blizzard is the most successful traveling and club baseball program in Minnesota and among the top select teams in the Midwest winning 117 national tournaments and placing in the top four 292 times since 2003.

The Blizzard program draws players ages 10u-18u from all around Minnesota including Albert Lea to Duluth and has had several players from the Dakotas, Iowa, Wisconsin and even Canada.

Our Baseball Academy, a core part of the Blizzard program, offers individual lessons, strength training and has avenues for our players to participate in showcases, fall leagues and tournaments.

Over 450 players have committed to play college baseball and another 50+ have been drafted or signed as free agents in the last ten years. It is one of the most well-respected programs in the Midwest and has garnered attention from KSTP 5, Kare 11, ESPN 1500, Fox9, Channel 6 , the Star Tribune and the Upper Deck Report among others.

Travel 12-14 YO Program

M i nn etonka baseball association,   2024 t r av eling baseball program (ages 12 to 15), p r ogram and travel tryout description.

Minnetonka Baseball organizes travel baseball teams in the Metro Baseball League for 12, 13, 14, & 15 year-old boys living in or attending school in the Minnetonka School District. Our goal is to create a comprehensive, community-based program to support the development of players across a wide range of participation levels. Our ultimate vision is to foster consistent championship caliber High School, Legion, and Senior Babe Ruth teams.

The Minnetonka Baseball Traveling baseball program goals are as follows:

• Provide effective, high quality training for players and coaches at all levels.
• Provide programs that are cooperative with, and respected by other community programs.
• Seek to maximize the potential of every player in the program.
• Develop players and teams to compete at a top level.
• Encourage and foster player participation for the full length of a player’s youth sports career by putting them in a position for success.
• Emphasize the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship.

Traveling Teams and Levels

Minnetonka Traveling baseball teams (ages 12 to 15) play in the Metro Baseball league ( www.mbl.bz ). 

Teams consist of players falling into the following age groups (for 2024 season).

League age 12 year-olds 

League age 13 year-olds 

League age 14 year-olds 

League age 15 year-olds

A Player may elect to play with his/her respective age group as listed above or may elect to play “up” with their grade in school. For example a player born in June of 2007 but attending the 9th grade can elect to play with the 14 year old group or with their grade and play with the 15 year old group. They must declare this decision prior to the evaluation days.

The final number and level of travel teams (i.e. AAA, AA, A) will be decided by the Minnetonka Baseball board and will be determined by registration numbers, talent level and field availability.

At each respective level (e.g. AAA, AA, A), the coaches will strive to achieve balance and equity between the teams at that level. Based on skill level and coaches determinations, any of the AA teams may play in AAA  tournaments, however they will play league games at the AA level.

The number of roster positions per team will be determined by the individual head coaches at each age level. At 12U, 13U & 14U, teams will be limited to 11 with 13 players maximum since there is continuous batting at these ages. 15U is 9-man batting and the teams will be limited to 11 with 13 players maximum.  Number of players selected to a team will be based on the head coach’s philosophy.

Coaches are selected by the MBA Board Coach’s Selection Committee based upon interest, baseball skills, coaching skills, game philosophy and experience advancing the game of youth baseball. Interested coaches must complete the online Minnetonka Traveling Baseball Coach Application (found on Minnetonka Baseball Website, www.minnetonkabaseball.org) indicating their coaching preferences which will be received by the Travel Director for consideration. Head coach candidates may be interviewed by the Travel Coaches Selection Committee prior to the annual MBA September Board meeting. If there is a preference to one league or another it must be noted on the application.  Head coaches will be assigned prior to team selection process or after another selection process is completed. Assistant coaches will be determined during the team selection process.

Traveling Team Tryout Overview

Tryouts are held on 2 different Sundays in September/October. Minnetonka Traveling Baseball believes that travel-caliber players are in their best baseball form immediately after their summer season. This allows teams to practice together over the winter if desired, schedule their summer / tournament plans and conduct additional fundraising as needed. Due to the inconsistent weather in Minnesota during the spring time, a fall tryout allows players to be seen in outdoor game situations, not indoors where results are not a true representation of the players’ skills.

Players must register at the Minnetonka Baseball website prior to the tryout and pay a non-refundable $40 evaluation fee upon registration. These fees are used to hire and fund the independent evaluators for the tryouts.

The first session are skills evaluation tryouts   Batting will also be assessed.. Also  players are allowed to pick two different types of positions at which to try out.  The position options are:  Pitcher, Catcher, IF or OF .  They CAN'T select the same twice, for example IF as a 2nd baseman and IF as a Shortstop.   For the skills day, the player should pick the two where the player feels they are most comfortable and accomplished to be evaluated.  For the second session, which will be a scrimmage evaluation, where players are only allowed to select one position for that evaluation. Players select one position from  C, 1B, 2B,3B, SS, LF, CF& RF  to be evaluated in that scrimmage setting.  Players will also bat in these scrimmage simulations. Note that these positions are for tryouts only and won’t impact where the player has the opportunity to play during the season as that will be up to the coaches.  

PLEASE RESPECT THE PRIVACY OF OUR EVALUATIONS:

While most organizations have very private evaluation sessions, the Minnetonka Baseball Association has uniquely chosen the last three years to have an open door policy to the interested coaches and parents of our community.  During evaluations, please remember to:

·         Refrain from leaving the bleacher area

·         Refrain from talking, cheering or yelling to any on-field player or evaluator

·         Refrain from any photographing, videotaping or audio recording

Any person found in breach of this privacy policy will be asked to leave the evaluations and the Veteran’s upper and lower baseball facilities for the remainder of the day.  Please understand this policy is to ensure our players and evaluation staff are not subject to any undue stress while participating or evaluating before, during or after the event.  Reminder that t he Minnetonka Baseball Association approved coaches may be in attendance at these sessions to make personal notes and observation to help themselves in assessing players.  These notes can be used if they are a selected Head Coach or an assigned Assistant Coach while they form teams. Pending coach's personal evaluation notes are  not  utilized for the overall player evaluation rankings. 

There are two  mandatory  tryout sessions. The only possible excuses for not participating in BOTH tryouts are 1) a serious illness or injury with Medical Documentation provided to the Travel Director; 2) a previously scheduled trip or vacation which must be communicated to the Travel Director  via email  prior to evaluations.  We require that   ALL players attend BOTH rounds of travel tryouts unless an excuse is approved, IN ADVANCE, through the Travel   Director.

Grading players during tryouts is not a perfect science.  Tryout grades are only a reflection of a player’s abilities on that day . No system is perfect and we always look for ways to improve the process.

Players are  strongly encouraged  to play with their grade level; however they can play up or down as allowed by the age limitations for each group and the selection by the coaches.

Team Selection Overview

Teams will be selected starting in early-October per current Minnetonka Traveling Baseball selection procedures.  

The head coaches work with Travel Director or MBA Travel Committee designated respresentative to form teams based upon tryout scores, filling positions for the team and personal baseball knowledge of players along with past coach's feedback when available or applicable. Coaches and Travel Director will have access to:

• Independent evaluation data (numeric and commentary)
• Prior year coach evaluation summaries (where made available). Incoming players will be reviewed based on their tryouts. Returning players may or may not have a coach’s evaluation summary from the previous year available for consideration used by the head coach's team selection process
• Overall - Number of games played
• Pitching - Number of innings pitched and strike percentage from the number of total pitches thrown, strike-outs & walks
• Catching - Number of Innings caught, number of base runners thrown out and number of pass balls
• Fielding - Number of opportunities and fielding %
• Batting - Number of plate appearances, on-base percentage, strike-outs & walks
• Their own observations

There may or may not be a need to contact players during the decision process.  Being contacted by a coach or Travel Director  is not an indication of  either  acceptance  or   turndown.

The role of the Travel Director or MBA Travel Committee designated respresentative is to ensure the selection process is performed in the manner prescribed by the Minnetonka Baseball Board. The role of the Travel Director is to work with the coaches to strive for balance and fairness in the team selection process. This is an impartial check and balance.

Final Minnetonka Baseball Roster Approval and Publication

Teams formed by coaches are NOT FINAL until approved by the Travel Director or a Representative from the Travel Team Selection Committee.

The final rosters:

• At some point in early-October, the Minnetonka Baseball Association website will be updated with the teams being posted for the season. Coaches will also be in contact to discuss any team meetings, practice times, etc. after the team announcement posting. 
• $500 payment is taken towards your fee at time of registration (ages 12+) for the 2024 season. If you are not placed on a team, your fee will be refunded. Fees are collected in advance so coaches can be sure that they have a committed roster and have the necessary funding for the winter training, tournament registrations, and uniforms.  All registration and evaluation fees are considered non-refundable.
• Players that decline their roster placement and do not play with their assigned team will not receive a refund of their $500 payment. 
• Any team that uses a paid coaching staff will be assessed a coaching surcharge.
• Families needing financial assistance can complete a Scholarship Application which can be found on the website ( www.MinnetonkaBaseball.org ) under the home drop down menu.
• Additionally, players will be reminded of their commitment form they accepted at time of registration making baseball their #1 priority during the baseball season. We strongly believe and support multiple sport athletes, but believe that each sport should take precedence during its respective season. Therefore, we ask each player to make a personal commitment to their respective team and coach.

Players not selected for Traveling Teams

Players not selected for a Travel team will be eligible to play in the Community programs (ages 12/13 & 14/15).  Community teams are formed in Spring 2024 for the 2024 season based on player skills and feedback from the prior year. A tournament opportunity is planned in our Community 12/13 & Community 14/15 programs that will allow for more tournament play during the season.   Tournament teams may be formed in addition to the regular season teams that will give more tournament opportunities for players who wish to play more tournament baseball.  More details will be forthcoming on the 2024 Community 12/13 & Community 14/15 season on the Minnetonka baseball website.

2024 Season Evaluation Schedule

Metal spikes are allowed for ages 13+  

Evaluation Fee: $40 nonrefundable evaluation fee is due when you register for a Travel program on the Minnetonka Baseball website.  This fee is NOT applied to the Travel Program Registration Fees..

• Run and evaluated by MHS Baseball and Legion coaching staff.
• Players will be supplied with numbered pinnies to wear.
• Coaching candidates will observe/evaluate for their own purposes (from sidelines … not on field). Their notations will  not  be included with that of independent evaluators.

SKILLS DAY 1:

• Each player will choose two positions from the following:  P, C, IF or OF .
• Each player may also be evaluated on running (i.e. 60 yard dash/timing on bases, if time permits).
• Outfielders will be evaluated on fielding the ball and making the throw to 3rd base, 2nd base and home plate from right field.
• Infielders will be evaluated on a variety of ground balls and making throws to various bases.
• Catchers will be evaluated on footwork, blocking, accuracy, and arm strength.
• Pitchers will be evaluated on mechanics, velocity, pitch location and additional pitches other than a straight/normal fastball.

September 24th - Skills Day

at Lower and Vets

October 1st  - Scrimmage Day

• Players wear numbered pinnies
• Each player will select only one position to be evaluated on scrimmage day.  Positions are  C, 1B, 2B ,3B, SS, LF, CF, RF.
• MHS and Legion coaches will evaluate players on baseball skills such as fielding, positioning, cut-offs and locations, knowing where to throw a batted ball, base-running and overall baseball knowledge. Batting will mostly be evaluated on form as well as pitch selection rather than actual outcome of an at bat.
• Possible Travel coaches will observe and make notations for their own use. Their notations  will not  be included with those of the independent evaluators.

Scrimmage Day will change to the following:

We will have the groups start again on the Lower Field for hitting evaluation for an hour, then move to Veterans Field for the scrimmage evaluation where they will be placed at the position they choose and we will control the scrimmage by the coach hitting the ball to cover a multitude of plays that we want to see them react in.  This allows us to get the ball to each player and grade them accordingly.

Rain out and make-up date is TBD.

Traveling Baseball Winter, Spring and Summer Schedule Summary

Travel team players are expected to be available for  s ome  fall and winter training – kids are busy with many activities, but winter is a good time to keep skills current and work on new skills. The exact schedules will be determined by the Head Coaches at each individual age level.

During baseball season, players are expected to be 100% committed to playing baseball, April1st through July 31st. The 12, 13 and 14 year old teams may have 4 practices per week, especially during April, May and July. 15-year old teams must work around the HS baseball calendar, which has priority. All travel players and parents are asked online to accept a Travel Team Commitment form to commit to the team and coaches for that season. This committment form is incorporated into the Travel Registration process.

Practice times and frequency are determined by the coaches. Practice locations are all within the Minnetonka area, possibly including Chanhassen or Hopkins.

Regular season league games will normally be on weeknights (Mon. - Thurs.) starting in early May for age 12s, 13s and 14s or in late May for 15s. Regular season games begin usually about 6:00 PM but can be earlier; some games may be scheduled as late as 8:30 PM. Players are expected to report 45 to 60 minutes before game time, as determined by the head coach. Away game locations are typically in nearby communities, but can be 30-45 minutes away from Minnetonka. Home games are at nearby fields in Minnetonka, Excelsior, Chanhassen, etc.

Additionally, teams will participate in four to seven weekend tournaments (Includes State Tournaments). Most weekend tournaments begin late Friday afternoon or early evening and end on Sunday. One or two of these tournaments could be out of town. Teams typically play between 40 and 50 games during the season. League play is normally within 30 minutes or less of Minnetonka; however tournament locations vary by team and are determined over the winter months through meetings of the coaches and parents.

About the Travel Program

The Travel Program is designed to place players in an appropriate competition level while promoting development. Tryouts are held for team formation. AAA, AA, and A players compete against community-based teams from across the state. Players who do not wish to tryout for a "traveling" team, or do not successfully evaluate for a AAA, AA, or A team, will be placed in the Southern Minny program.

The Travel Program is designed to provide players with the knowledge and skills necessary to eventually play baseball at the high school level. Teams meet multiple times per week for games or practice.

Age of Players

Your child's level of play is determined by their age on April 30, 2024. Players that are young for their grade have the option of signing up for the age group determined by their birthday OR playing with their 2022-2024 academic year grade.

2024 Season Information

• Levels of play by age: Our ability to field teams at each division (AAA/AA/A) is determined by multiple factors including the number of players who register for each age level in RYBA travel, tryout scores, past season regular season record and tournament results, and MBL rules. 9U only offers AAA and AA levels. 10U-13U offers AAA, AA, and A divisions. 14U offers AAA/AA divisions. MBL also offers a combined 14A/15A division.
• 14U teams will not be organized around High Schools for 2024. Players will be assigned to teams based on tryout performance.
• Players who are not assigned to a travel team will be accommodated within the Southern Minny program, and offered an opportunity to have their tryout scores considered for placement on a tournament team. Please see the Southern Minny page for additional details.
• Travel fees are split into a base fee and a travel team fee. The base fee includes the tryout fee plus the cost for Southern Minny Registration. The travel team fee is assessed after the players are assigned to a travel team. RYBA travel fees include uniform items (Hat, two jerseys), MBL team registration, and regular season tournament registration.
• Travel Tryouts will be held at the RCTC Dome on 2/19. Specific hours for each age level will be shared with registered players at the close of registration. Travel tryout make-ups will be held on 3/3.

Rochester Pines Travel Teams

The Rochester Pines pride themselves on being a baseball organization that develops its athletes annually. Our Travel Teams are designed to help expose our players to a more unique and advanced opportunity for development in the game of baseball. To help achieve our more progressive development style, we will combine our team, physical & skill development training with games and competition. Players will be exposed in a number of different ways that will benefit the individual. By exposure, players will have the chance to compete against some of the best talent in the state & region while developing in a fast paced environment. We have developed a schedule, system, and plan to help achieve our goals that will provide support to our players with the resources they need to succeed. 

The Rochester Pines was designed to help organize, develop and advance some of the highest level baseball talent that the Midwest has to offer. Our team goals are to provide every player with the best venue to be exposed to further all our players baseball interests. We are dedicated in helping provide all of our players with the opportunity not only to develop as baseball players but in life as well. We will help in this process by challenging our players in a positive and competitive learning environment through competition, practice, and guidance.

LEVELS OF PLAY

Rochester Pines will plan to field and organize one and no more than two baseball teams at each age level (10-18U) into the future. Our top Roster or “ Navy” will be for the most serious players that want to compete against the highest level competition in the state, Midwest and country. Age groups may have two high quality rosters if the talent pool is high. Our next best roster or “Green “ Roster will be for the players that just missed the cut for the top teams or that would like a more flexible team option while still staying competitive in quality tournaments or leagues. Note that the Green roster is a good team but we do not consider them to be one of the best teams in the state. The Green team will win games and lose games while focusing on development to make that push to the next level. Rosters for all of the teams will be determined based on tryouts, recruitment, scouting reports, showcases, invited or other means. Rosters for 10-14U will be determined based on our Tryouts.

FALL SEASON

Fall: August to October

The  10-15U Fall Season will typically consist of 4-5 tournaments. Our plan will be to always play in more tournaments as opposed to the fall league play. If there are enough tournaments scheduled during the fall season we will not enter into a league. Typically, We will have 3-4  State ran Tournaments and one regional tournament. Will add a traveling tournament if the team allows. 

Our  16-18U Fall Season will consist of 4-6 tournaments. More or less depending on if we decided to join a fall league or not. Our older age groups will typically play in 3-4 tournaments in the state and travel to two highly scouted events in region. We will try to find more local tournaments instead of trying to do the standard fall leagues.  Schedules vary from year to year based on the different tournaments scheduled & caliber of team.

WINTER SEASON

Winter: January & February

Our  Winter Season was designed to reward our players with all of the hard work they have put in during our offseason training programs. Our philosophy within the Pines is that training is the most important thing in the offseason. Our players will not be able to compete in the future if they aren’t dedicating time to the development of their skills. Almost more important today than in the past. 

Our Winter Season will be more about training & repetition. For our teams, We will offer two traveling events to tournaments down south for each age group because its fun and we feel its still important to develop in higher competitive atmospheres. It also gives an opportunity to learn and find out whats working and what else needs to be addressed in the development process when we get home.  These tournaments are typically located in Arizona, Florida, Nevada or California. We do our best to time these tournaments during extended weekends such as Martin Luther King Day and Presidents Day but there may be a tournament on a different weekend.  We realize that everyone has different schedules which is why flexibility will always be a key feature of this program. Players will have the opportunity to attend winter team tryouts for these teams.

SPRING SEASON

Spring: April & May

Our  Spring Season  was designed for our youth (10-14U) aged players while our HS aged players are competing in their local HS seasons. Typically, our spring teams will play in 2-3 tournaments during this time. Usually, these tournaments are within driving distance in a bordering state. This season helps gear up our players for the summer season. We have the ability to add or subtract events based on if this team will continue into the summer season. 

SUMMER SEASON

Summer: June & July

Our  Summer Season is our biggest scouting season for High School aged players. Depending on the caliber of the team, we will do some more traveling to where the scouts are located. We enter a mix of premier and local tournaments in the state & region in order to expose our players to more college recruiters. We also might travel to a national tournament if we feel it will benefit the team & players. We also do our best not to over travel and miss out on scouts in our own state. Typically, our HS summer season will have 5 tournaments scheduled while combining with local games vs other clubs.  We also try to schedule around some big showcases in MN that we believe our players should attend.

In our program, there is a difference between “Practice” & “Training”. Practice is applying something that we have learned & repeating to become more consistent at that skill. Training is something we do to improve or develop. We will use the combo of the two to help develop are athletes.

Our  Fall Practice Schedule will consist of a team practice every Wednesday typically at a local HS field. Other days of the week, we will have training & small group work available with skill development as the focus.

Our  Winter Practice Schedule  will be a bit smaller and more flexible due to our  offseason training programs being in session and smaller two tournament schedule. Players will receive 8 +team practices and may add an additional training membership. These practices will be located at the Rochester Batting Cages.

Our  Summer Practice Schedule is more full with a combination of team practice & training. We will schedule some days off for rest & traveling (if needed) but our summer season is a competitive season when it comes to development and game play. Practices will be scheduled during the day to avoid conflicts with other teams or activities in the evening.

Fall Traveling will usually consist of more local tournaments while driving distance to more regional tournaments. Certain teams will have tournaments that players need to fly to at times in order to go where exposure is high.

Winter Traveling  will almost always consist of flying events due to weather up north. Typically, we will look to fly to events Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, and Nevada during this season. 

In the summer, its best to look at specific team schedules when they come out as their is a mixture of local, regional & national tournaments . We do our best to cut costs while going where the scouts are located. 

All of our players should arrive to our designated hotel one day prior to our event begins unless noted before hand. This is subject to change based on each individual tournament format, opening game times, and travel arrangements.

All of our players should plan to depart on the latest possible flight on the last day of the tournament or the day after the tournament to avoid conflicts with games. Sometimes, games can go late into the afternoon on the last day of the event. We do our best to learn the times beforehand. Tournaments usually post schedules a week an advanced so we don’t always know when we book flights.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How many teams will there be at my sons age group?

The Pines will always plans to field one team per age group. If our staff decides there is enough quality talent at an age group they may then do a second team. The goal is to make the first team as talented as possible before moving on to a second.

Is there a possibility that there will not be a team at my sons age group?

Our goal is to have one at every age group. However, There is a possibility that the Pines will not have a team at your sons age group depending on the season. Many of our players at the younger age groups are multiple sport athletes and we may have a more difficulty filling teams during certain periods. Also, we will not hold a team if we feel there isnt enough quality talent at that age group for tryouts. Our ultimate goal in the future is to have at least one team at every age group.

Does my son have to tryout?

Tryouts are a requirement at the 10-15U age groups. All players must go through the tryout process at those age groups in order to be placed on a team. Tryouts at the 16-18U age groups are NOT a requirement but highly recommended especially if we don’t know who you are. Sometimes, Tryouts for the HS age groups are done through individual workouts. Our staff has the ability to go to HS games in the spring and invite players to teams. Its best to register for tryouts right away when they are posted. 

Do all players make the team?

Unfortunately, No- all players will not make the team. Players tryout and we select the players that best fit our program. Some players may be invited to be practice players or substitute players. 

How much are tryouts? 

Tryouts prices vary from season to season and space requirements.  15-18U tryouts in the fall are $30 if you need to come in for a workout. Some players dont need to come in for a workout because we know who they are. Typically, tryouts are $30 per player outside of the fall season and would be collected at tryouts. 

How many players are on a team?

The number of players on a team will vary from age group to age group. Generally, from 10-14U we try to keep it around 12-13 players. From 15-18U, we will usually have 12 specific position players as well as add more pitching depth. We have had HS teams at 16 players before (12 position players & 4 Pitchers). Ultimately, depends on the team and roster makeup. 

How many tournaments will we be playing?

The number of tournaments will vary depending on the season and team. See individual team pages for that answer. 

Will there be traveling?

Yes, age groups will be traveling at one time or another. Our younger age groups don’t travel as much as the older kids. Our older players will travel a bit but we try our best to only travel when we need to or go to the events with high exposure. We also try not to do more than 1-2 flying events during any season, if any. Younger age groups we try to keep it at 1. In the winter, we schedule two tournament down south, during extended weekends. 

How much do the Teams cost?

The cost of our teams varies per age group and season. In the fall, our age groups  will vary depending on # of tournaments. In the Winter, all of our teams have a fixed price. In the spring/ summer, prices will also vary. Please, see individual team program pages.

Welcome to Minneapolis Millers Youth Baseball!

The Minneapolis Youth Baseball Association (MYBA) is a non-profit organization operated by volunteers who are passionate about teaching kids to play baseball. Our goal is to place kids at a level of competition that best supports their long-term development, while giving them the best baseball experience possible. 

MYBA fields the Minneapolis Millers travel teams for players in 3rd through 9th grade, and the Mini Millers' development recreational program for players in 1st through 4th grade.  Our Minneapolis Millers Travel teams are divided into 3 skill levels (AAA; AA; A) and compete in the Metro Baseball League. Our Mini Millers development teams compete in recreational leagues.

Where’s my team?

Each 12U team family will join their player’s team, and proceeds generated from FlipGive purchases will go toward team fundraising for their out-of-state tournaments and other qualifying items!

All other teams will fundraise for their combined age group in general; families will select the age group for their player within the app (e.g. 13U combined Teams). If you have more than one player with the Millers this year and one is playing 12U, please join the 12U team. If not, you may select any of your players’ age groups

Metro Baseball League

Game Dates: April - July

The Metro Baseball League is a community-based organization – one of the largest of its kind in the nation – that provides a fun, competitive baseball environment for kids ages 9-15. Teams play a traveling schedule against neighboring communities from April through July, culminating with exciting league playoffs. Great kids and families are what make the MBL special. The experiences and the memories made, both on and off the field, are what they treasure the most.

Minnesota Baseball Tournaments

Local Tournament Dates: April - July

State Tournament Dates: 7/12 - 7/14, 7/19 - 7/21

For the last 20 years, MBT has run the largest statewide tournaments in youth baseball. Teams can qualify for one of our 19 state championship tournaments by playing in some of the 380 qualifying local tournaments held by communities across the state. More than 11,000 players and coaches will compete in these tournaments.

The Metro Baseball League August Classic is a premier showcase baseball tournament. Two to four players are selected by each MBL team to participate in all star teams with other players in their division. Each team will play 4 games over the course of the tournament and will receive a commemorative keepsake along with a t-shirt, a MN Twins special opportunity and St. Paul Saints game ticket, with concessions and a pre-game on-field experience at CHS Field.

2024 Fall League

Game Dates: Sundays, starting 9/8

Team Registration: 6/16 - 8/13

Individual Registration: 6/25 - 8/13

The Metro Baseball Fall League is a final opportunity to get some outdoor Baseball games in before the weather turns to winter sports and indoor sports. Each 10 game season has about 350 teams in divisions from 9AA to 17/18AAA. The best way to enter the league is with a head coach and your own roster of players. MBL also tries to accommodate individual registrations. Individuals can be added onto teams who are short players or individuals can be grouped together to form their own team. If you have a coach and a group of players but not enough to form a team, you can also sign up and we should be able to fill out a roster. Host field locations will vary between each age/level but primarily located in the south, west and east metro. This is a very low stress league and is geared more towards development, learning and fun.

MBL offers more ways to stay in the game. The role of MBL is to grow the game of baseball, and allows focusing the programming, education, training and resources back to the youth baseball organizations in each community.
