Bayern Munich's 2022 USA tour review

Bayern Munich were back on their first proper tour since 2019 after touching down in the USA for their 2022 Audi Summer Tour, which included friendlies against DC United and Manchester City.

bundesliga.com has all you need to know about the German champions’ stay Stateside…

When was the tour?

Bayern began their fifth summer trip to the USA on Monday, 18 July and spent a week across the Atlantic before returning to Germany on Sunday, 24 July ahead of their first competitive fixture of the 2022/23 season when they take on RB Leipzig in the Supercup .

Where did Bayern visit?

The Munich club touched down in the capital, Washington DC, where they trained and took in the sights until Friday, 22 July. After that, they hopped over to Wisconsin for a two-day visit to Green Bay. It was fewer destinations than their 2019 tour when they took in Los Angeles, Houston and Kansas.

The Bundesliga champions played two friendly fixtures whilst over in the States.

Which players travelled?

All of Bayern’s senior squad have now returned to training at Säbener Straße , including new additions Sadio Mane , Ryan Gravenberch and Noussair Mazraoui . Leon Goretzka is the only first-team player who didn't travel after undergoing knee surgery. Otherwise, everyone else was on the plane to Washington, including USMNT international defender Chris Richards . A number of youth players were also on board, including forward Lucas Copado, full-back David Herold and goalkeeper Jakob Mayer, as coach Julian Nagelsmann makes final decisions on his squad going into the season. New recruit Matthijs de Ligt joined his new teammates Stateside just hours after signing, going on to feature and score in the first friendly.

What else happened?

As ever on these tours, there were training sessions and plenty of fan experiences arranged where supporters got to meet their favourite players up close after so many years of having to keep a distance. The Bayern players were also treated to a visit to the White House, home of the President of the United States of America, in Washington DC.

Bayern Munich tickets: How to get Bayern tickets for the Allianz Arena

Here's how to get Bayern Munich tickets if you're looking to get to Germany for a game at the Allianz Arena any time soon

Bayern Munich tickets: How to get Bayern tickets for the Allianz Arena: general view outside the stadium during the Bundesliga match between FC Bayern Muenchen and SC Paderborn 07 at Allianz Arena on February 22, 2020 in Munich, Germany.

How to get Bayern Munich tickets

Hospitality.

How to get Bayern Munich tickets is on the lips of any match-goer looking to see the serial German champions in the flesh – at one of the sport's most iconic and distinctive venues.

The Allianz Arena has been home to Bayern Munich since 2005, when Die Roten relocated from the old Olympic Stadium. Holding 75,024 and boasting a fervent ambience from the inside, the Allianz is in fact more famous for that exterior: the ground lights up in bright hues, usually of whoever is playing inside but sometimes with the Pride flag, messages or other patterns displayed over the Bavarian diamond-patterned structure.

Ranked at No.21 in FourFourTwo's Best Stadiums in the World list, it's a sight for your bucket list – and it just so helps that as tenants, Bayern usually put on quite the show there as Germany's primary exponents of liquid football. Whether you're looking to go for a game, a tour or just to get a photo from the outside, here's FFT's complete guide of how and where you can get tickets and visit FC Hollywood's suitably glitzy cathedral. It's simply one of the best football tickets in the world.

How to get Bayern Munich tickets for the Allianz Arena

“At least if you go for Munich for Bayern, you’re almost guaranteed a positive result; if you go for the beer, you’re unlikely to care too much either way. The Allianz is a beautiful football stadium though, generates a stunning buzz and though it’s a little out of the way, it’s well worth visiting. My dad lived in Munich for three years: his recommendation is to make sure you wrap up if you’re going in the winter (or do what he did and have a really hot curry before the game).”

Soccer: Bundesliga, training camp FC Bayern

There’ll be only a few matchdays left before the Bundesliga finishes, but the summer is anything but rest for Bayern Munich . In addition to planning and finalizing transfers, they will be going on a few trips across the globe in the off-season. I wrote back in January about Bayern’s planning for the Asia tour and now it’s been confirmed.

They were scheduled to go to Sydney, Australia and play a couple of friendlies right after the league ends, but it looks like they won’t go after all:

Bayern's Australia tour, scheduled after the last game of the season, has been cancelled. The club was promised €4-5m, but the organizers couldn't fulfill the financial promises [ @cfbayern , @altobelli13 ] — Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) April 30, 2023

Here’s what the schedule looks like so far:

July 15 – 20: Tegernsee training camp (via @iMiaSanMia )

July 24 – August 3: Audi Summer Tour in Asia (8 th edition of the summer tour)

· Two games in Tokyo against Kawasaki Frontale and Manchester City (plus another destination in Japan against a third team)

· Mini-tournament (Audi Cup?) in Singapore against Liverpool , Tottenham Hotspur , and AS Roma .

Getting busy, eh? Both the front office and the team.

Finally, we can get revenge on Manchester City with this third leg! (We’re still in the Champions League , right?)

Sport-Club Freiburg v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga

Anyway, the club aims to maintain their roots by holding a training camp in Tegernsee per under-fire CEO Oliver Kahn:

FC Bayern is always aware of its roots in Bavaria and Munich, and it is part of the club’s tradition that we always prepare for the new season at Tegernsee. At the same time, we want to give our fans around the world the opportunity to see our players live on a regular basis. We’re looking forward to this year’s ‘Audi Summer Tour’ in Asia.

Andreas Jung, head of marketing, is aware of the club’s huge yet ever-growing fan base in Asia and would want to continue that.

FC Bayern has a huge fan base in Asia that is constantly growing. We want to continue to drive the great enthusiasm for our sport in the region and inspire people with our team on site.

Which is why their motto for this summer tour is “A way to inspire” ( via the club’s official website ):

Under the motto “A way to inspire”, the first stop of this year’s summer tour is Tokyo. Two “Audi Football Summits” will take place in the Japanese capital on July 26 and 29 in the national stadium. The opponent on July 29th is Kawasaki Frontale, the opponent of the opening game will be announced like the second destination of the tour with a third game. FC Bayern is visiting Japan with its professional team for the first time since 2008. The games in Tokyo are organized jointly with SPTV, the Japanese media partner of the Bundesliga, and the DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga. Last year FC Bayern was on its summer tour in the USA. 2017 was the last time we were guests in Asia, at that time the stations were called China and Singapore.

When are they gonna visit the Philippines? I’m still waiting.

With Bayern Munich on one side of the Champions League semi-finals and Borussia Dortmund on the other, and with this season's final being played at Wembley Stadium in London, we could be looking at a repeat of the 2013 final, when the Bavarians beat Jurgen Klopp's side 2-1 at the same stadium.

Tuchel: 'We deserved to win'

Thomas Tuchel spoke to beIN Sports after Bayern's win: "It was a chess game in the first half. Nobody wanted to make the first mistake. Everyone played a bit safe. There were moments for us, there were moments for Arsenal. We encouraged the team at half-time to show a bit more personality, a bit more courage. We were more fluid and played a fantastic second half. We deserved to win.

"Today we had three free seats on the bench. On the other side, there were no injuries. We lost our maximum speed from the first match in (Alphonso) Davies, (Kingsley) Coman and (Serge) Gnabry. We needed to find solutions and we did it as a team."

Bellingham confident ahead of semi-final vs Bayern

Bayern will meet Real Madrid in the semi-finals and the Spanish club's superstar Jude Bellingham was just asked whether he's worried about that match-up: "I wouldn't say worried, we're confident in our own ability. Everyone wrote us off before this game anyway saying that City were the favourites. Pretty much everyone put them in the final, so we've got nothing to be worried about.

"But we'll respect their talent and their quality and we'll have to approach it with the same focus as today."

Arsenal supporter: 'It's not the end of the world'

Arsenal supporter: 'It's not the end of the world'

Arsenal fans on our discussion page are having varied reactions to tonight's elimination, from disappointment to pragmatism to hope.

Daniel S: This UCL campaign was always going to be a litmus test on our progress. We got to the quarters and met a Bayern side that’s managed by a UCL winning coach and multiple winners on the pitch.

Scott R: We were a young inexperienced team beaten by one goal away to an elite European club. Yes we wasted openings, yes we didn't cut them open, but we controlled large parts of the game and got narrowly beaten. It's not the end of the world.

Cameron B: Overall quite an unsatisfying Champions League campaign in the end. Never felt like we got to have that moment where we *arrive* in the knockouts as one of Europe's elite clubs again. Hopefully we learn for next year.

'Tactical masterclass' by Tuchel

'Tactical masterclass' by Tuchel

Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer praised the club's manager after tonight's win: "It was a tactical masterclass from Thomas Tuchel tonight."

If they go on to win the Champions League, could the club reverse their decision to part ways with Tuchel at the end of the season?

A silver lining for Arsenal fans

A disastrous night for the Premier League as its two remaining teams have both been eliminated from the Champions League.

The UCL's final four consists of two teams from Germany, one from Spain and one from France.

With Italy set to grab one of the two extra spots in next season's tournament, this week's results have given Germany a massive boost over England in the race for the other.

Bad news for Tottenham and Aston Villa, which is a bit of a silver lining for Arsenal fans, of course.

Neuer credits win to Bayern's discipline

Manuel Neuer, who set a record for most UCL clean sheets all-time tonight, spoke to the media after Bayern's win: "I think it was a special night that we've experienced here at the arena. The atmosphere, the fans, the support, but crucially the discipline we produced in our performance, which I think was key to what we lived through today.

"I think the key thing with my role in the team is to find the right balance and not to take too many risks. Then from the back, we were looking for the right passes out from the back, to pose a threat and I think the fact we struck a good balance as a team was crucial."

Bayern will face Real Madrid in semi-finals

Bayern will face Real Madrid in semi-finals

The Athletic

Real Madrid have beaten defending champions Manchester City on penalties!

Andriy Lunin is the hero after making two saves, making up for Luka Modric's failed attempt in the first round.

Bayern will host the first leg in two weeks, with Real hosting the return leg a week later.

Kimmich: 'We deserved to go through'

Kimmich: 'We deserved to go through'

Player of the Match Joshua Kimmich spoke to the media after Bayern's win: "It's an amazing feeling to score such an important goal in front of our fans on a night like tonight.

"The second-half performance was really good, we could have even scored more. Ultimately, if you look at the course of both games, I think we deserved to go through."

"The first half was a bit nervous from both teams, neither side wanted to take the decisive risk. The second half though we were much better, more incisive and ambitious. Your odds of scoring are always better when you pop up in the box."

Liam Tharme

Arsenal undone by lack of second-half scoring

Scoring in the second half of Champions League matches was an issue for Arsenal all season long.

They scored just five second-half goals across their 10 UCL matches this season, compared to 14 in the first half. Among the eight quarter-finalists, they ranked last in second-half scoring.

Implications for Club World Cup

With Arsenal eliminated from this season's Champions League, that means that Europe's representatives at the 2025 Club World Cup have been finalised. Red Bull Salzburg are the beneficiaries of tonight's result, earning a berth in the expanded tournament.

We lacked a magic moment, says Arteta

Arteta said it was his side's mental lapse that provided Bayern's opportunity and they did not benefit from one the other way around.

"A mistake from them or a magic moment is normally what unlocks a tie like this," he said. "In the first leg, we didn't manage to win it at the end and we could have done, I think we were better than them.

"Today, we had a lot of moments of dominance but a spark around the box is what you need in these ties to get a victory."

Man City and Real Madrid head to penalties!

After 120 minutes of football in Manchester tonight we're still no closer to finding a winner. The match has finished 1-1, the quarter-final has finished 4-4 on aggregate.

You can follow our live coverage of the penalty shootout here!

Allianz Arena remains Arsenal's house of horrors

Allianz Arena remains Arsenal's house of horrors

Arsenal's record in Champions League away games against Bayern Munich is now five losses alongside one draw and one win. And that one win still resulted in an elimination on away goals!

Arsenal will be perfectly happy to avoid any return trips back to the Allianz Arena in the coming years.

Arteta: We have a gutted dressing room

Arteta: We have a gutted dressing room

A desolate Mikel Arteta faced the cameras.

"At the moment, it is a really gutted dressing room, very disappointed," he told TNT Sports. "I cannot find the right words, I wish I had. We have to go through it, we tried against a team that has a lot of experience and, through the tie, the margins were very small. There were moments where we were better, we gave them two goals in the tie and that is a big advantage to give away.

"Today, you could see that the margin for error was zero. We made a big mistake defending the box and we conceded a goal. And then it was difficult.

"It's the moment to stay with the players, give them support because they are the ones that have taken us on this journey."

Man City and Real Madrid may be heading to penalties

Tonight's other quarter-final match is in the 114th minute and we still don't know which team Bayern will be facing in the semi-finals.

The score is tied 1-1 on the night and 4-4 on aggregate. You can follow our live coverage of that match here.

Neuer makes history

Neuer makes history

Manuel Neuer has recorded his 58th career clean sheet in the Champions League, moving him past Iker Casillas' 57 for the most all-time in the competition's history.

We were much better in the second half, says Kane

Bayern were dominant in the first half, but looked a completely different team in the second half and went on to secure a deserved win.

"The first half is always cagey in these types of games with both teams not wanting to concede early," he added. "We said at half time to up the tempo, up the pressing, be better with the ball and that's what we were.

"We created a lot more chances, we had a couple come off the post and, at the end, we probably could have finished it off.

"Overall, these games are tough and you just have to get through them."

James McNicholas

Back-to-back losses for Arsenal

Arsenal's performance today was pretty reminiscent of the Aston Villa game. They failed to take advantage of some promising early positions, faded badly in the second half, had leggy defenders static on a cross, etc.

Mikel Arteta faces a huge task to pick the team up now. It's so important they don't finish the season with a whimper.

TST 2024: The Manchester Derby, J.J. Watt vs Pat McAfee, top Group Stage stories to watch

T ST 2024 has arrived, and the Group Stage is coming. Matches kickoff on Wednesday in the men's field, and superstars from all over the world have arrived in Cary, N.C. for the 7v7 tournament.

From ESPN media personality Pat McAfee taking on ex-NFL star J.J. Watt to Sergio Aguero's iconic return to the pitch, there are some major narratives set to unfold in the second year of the tournament.

GOAL takes a look at five of the top Group Stage storylines in the men's field...

Der Klassiker: Bayern vs Dortmund

It's a match between German giants as the Bundesliga invades TST in 2024. Highlighting Borussia Dortmund's squad this year is Roman Weidenfeller and Brazilian Felipe Santana - both of whom are experienced veterans and former Black and Yellow stars.

Bayern, meanwhile, are fielding their World Team featuring youth academy players as a part of a preseason tour.

The famed rivalry between the two sides will come to TST this year as the Bundesliga clubs look to see who will come out on top.

Pat McAfee vs J.J. Watt

In a battle between two notable NFL players, a 6-5 former defensive end (Watt) will take on a 6-1 former punter (McAfee) in what could be a clash for the ages. Well, we hope so, anyway.

When the duo announced they would be playing in this year's tournament, some jaws dropped. Watt, the three-time NFL Defensive Player of the year and former Houston Texan - and Burnley co-owner - will be playing for the Clarets this year. McAfee, the former Indianapolis Colt and current ESPN media personality, will roll out as captain of a Concacafa SC squad that includes ex-USMNT stars Geoff Cameron and Brek Shea.

It could be a blockbuster matchup, and one of the most highly anticipated in the group stage.

The Manchester Derby: Sergio Aguero vs Luis Nani

The battle between Blue and Red, featuring two of Europe's finest attackers of the past decade - Nani and Aguero will clash in Group A of the tournament.

They'll meet on Thursday (6 pm ET on ESPN+ and ESPNU) in one of the marquee group stage matches.

The Argentine's Aguero Team and the former Portugal star's Nani FC will meet in the final Group Stage match as they look to advance into the knockout round.

Jimmy Conrad vs Sacha Kljestan

The former USMNT stars will clash in the Group Stage of the tournament, with Conrad's Kwik Goal FC and Kljestan's Sneaky Fox pitting multiple ex-MLS stars against each other.

Former MLS MVPs Sebastian Giovinco and Dwayne De Rosario will represent Conrad's lineup, while the likes of Mix Diskerud, Kelyrn Rowe and Jay Demerit will field opposite of them.

A contest of former domestic stars, it will be a must-watch match in what is becoming a budding rivalry. Sneaky Fox eliminated Conrad in 2023 in the knockout round at TST, so fans will want to tune in to see if the courses are reversed.

Marco Materazzi's return to the pitch

The 2006 FIFA World Cup champion is making his triumphant return to the pitch this week to rep the Inter crest.

The legendary Italian defender joined Inter in 2001 - for a fee just north of $10M - from Perugia, and the rest was history. Over 10 years in a Nerrazzuri kit, Materazzi accumulated 184 appearances for the Serie A side. From 2001-2008, he made 41 appearances for the Triocolore on the international stage, including a brilliant 2006 World Cup victory.

Europas drittgrößter Reiseanbieter FTI ist insolvent - Reisen ab morgen betroffen

Stand: 03.06.2024 12:10 Uhr
