ATEEZ Kicks Off “The Fellowship: Map The Treasure” World Tour With Shining Performances In Seoul

Ateez had taken fans on an amazing adventure to remember with their latest two-day concert in seoul.

ATEEZ had successfully kicked off their 2020 world tour The Fellowship: Map The Treasure with a two-day concert at the Olympic Hall in Olympic Park, Seoul last weekend!

ateez

Setting the sails running for their new adventure, the boy group filled their treasure trove with tons of precious new memories made together with ATINY on their back-to-back shows in Seoul on February 8 and 9!

Welcoming fans who are enthusiastically joining their continuing journey, they opened their massive two-day concert with the superb back-to-back stages of “WIN”, “Horizon”, and “Pirate King”.

Continuing with the show, the group then took a medley of their songs “Twilight”, “Stay”, and “My Way” to the stage. They then sent shivers with their amazing, heavenly stages for “Light”, “Mist”, and a remix of “Desire” – which they performed while wearing blindfolds, leaving fans in both complete frenzy and awe.

Their VCR which played afterwards was immediately followed by the light and cheerful stages of their catchy summer anthems “Illusion” and “Wave”, as well as “Crescent” and “Sunrise”.

Switching up the mood a bit afterwards, they then showcased their abilities to evoke emotions with their breathtaking performances of “If Without You”, “Aurora”, and “Utopia”.

Intensifying the atmosphere once more, the group proved their impeccable control of the stage with the powerful performances of their hits “Say My Name” and “Dazzling Light”, which was followed by the remix version of “Hala Hala” which was included in their Shift the Map album.

After getting loud cheers from fans for “Treasure”, the boys then shone brightly on stage with their performances of “Precious”, and  – with a dance break in between – an intro together with “Wonderland”.

ateez

Encore Stage

Following a VCR, the group continued on raising the energy further by performing their latest comeback track “Answer”.

With a VCR in the background, the boy group then sang along to a heartfelt performance of “Thank You”, which was followed by “Star 1117” that was made extra special by ATINY forming a bright and sparkling ocean with their lightsticks for the boys.

They then wrapped up the concert with “Promise”, where fans conducted a beautiful surprise slogan event, and “Dancing Like Butterfly Wings”, where the boys just had fun on stage with each other while dancing.

This splendid showcase was also enjoyed not just by ATEEZ’ fans, but by several other fellow idols as well. This includes Dreamcatcher members, as confirmed by SuA in a live broadcast, and Block B’s Jaehyo and Kyung, Teen Top’s Changjo, 14U’s Loudi, and Noir’s Yunsung and Minhyuk who were all reportedly seen in the venue as well.

ateez

Besides for the thrilling live performances of the group, ATEEZ’ concert in Seoul also caught the attention of fans worldwide with the exciting detail of their ment portions coming along with live English subtitles – an act which made so many international fans happy and grateful for.

“‘Beginning of the end’. Well, the beginning is the end, is the beginning. Don’t be too sad and please look forward to other stories of ATEEZ,” San shared during their talk portion regarding their Treasure series coming to an end with their previous mini-album.

“We will come to meet you often so that you can feel proud of being ATINY, especially concerts,” Mingi promised as well.

During their ment portion, the group also revealed the official name of their lightstick as “Lightiny”. “ATINY are the best at everything. ATINY designed the lightstick and named it,” leader Hongjoong expressed in awe and joked around with fans after.

The group also became emotional during their ending ments while thanking ATINY and expressing their never-ending love for them.

“Whenever I thought of giving up, ATINY held my hand through letters, words, or support. I think hearing ATINY say that they gained strength through us is the reason we were able to continue our journey. I hope you know that the ones who made all of these possible is ATINY and not us. I often say that ATINY shines brighter than stars, but coming here [makes me see that] ATINY are already the brightest stars for me,” Seonghwa shared.

“I wrote a letter before on fancafe where I said that I hope you are surrounded by people who make you happy – and I hope that ATEEZ becomes one of those people for you. In the future, if you can look back to your past and think that you had a great day at this concert, then we can really say that we had a fruitful day to one another,” Yeosang also told their fans.

After this successful kickoff of their tour in Seoul, ATEEZ will embark on another huge set of shows in Europe, Japan, and the US where many fans are looking forward to the powerful performances they had prepared to bring to the stage once again.

Multi-ethnic Katseye begins Asia promo tour dreaming of inspiring girls everywhere

asia tour ateez

SEOUL - Katseye, a multinational and multiethnic K-pop girl group formed by Hybe in collaboration with Geffen Records, kicked off its ambitious Asia promotion to broaden its reach.

The six-member group consists of: Daniela, whose father is Venezuelan, mother is Cuban and grew up in Los Angeles; Megan, whose father is white American, mother is Chinese Singaporean and grew up in Hawaii; Lara, who was born in India and grew up in LA; Manon, whose father is Ghanaian, mother is Swiss-Italian and grew up in Zurich; Sophia from Manila, the Philippines; and Yoonchae from Seoul.

The six were selected through the global audition program, “The Debut: Dream Academy,” which attracted 120,000 applicants from around the world. The group debuted in the US on June 28.

Katseye began its Asian promotional tour with a press conference conducted at Hybe’s headquarters in Seoul, Sept 11. Over the next two weeks, the group will travel to the Philippines and Japan, meeting fans and appearing on music shows.

“Our strength is that we are a global girl group representing many different countries. We’re all very diverse and we can bring something unique to the table, something that isn’t really out there yet,” said Manon.

Leader Sophia confidently explained how Katseye differentiates itself from other K-pop groups and other overseas pop stars. “Our diverse cultural backgrounds allow us to approach a broader audience. We are different from overseas pop artists as we have been trained through an amazing structure of the K-pop methodology. We have synchronized choreographies, and we can work with each other in harmony as a team.”

Regarding the K-pop training system, members recalled that it was undoubtedly challenging, but that they learned a lot through the process.

“All six of us benefited a lot from the process and it pushed us to challenge ourselves every single day,” said Sophia.

“The number one thing that I learned was discipline and how hard you have to work to achieve what you want,” said Lara, recalling her days as a trainee.

In response to a question about the group’s direction, Lara said, “We want to give importance to all parts of the world. There’s no specific market that we are mainly trying to target.”

Manon said that members hardly feel any language or cultural barriers among themselves, as they’ve learned how to be a group through living together and learning new things under the same roof.

”Wherever we go, we learn a couple of phrases to pay respect to our fans and build bonds,” added Megan, stressing how all members are open to embracing new information.

“Our ultimate goal is to be a number one global girl group,” said Manon.

Manon emphasized that Katseye can be an inspiration for all girls as they can represent them.

“As I grew up in Switzerland as a mixed girl, I didn’t see a lot of people in the entertainment industry that looked like me. So I had a hard time believing that this could become a reality,” Manon said.

“Being in a girl group where literally any single girl out there could look at us and see herself in us is inspiring to me. We can show those girls that with willpower and hard work it’s possible to fulfill any dream,” she said. THE KOREA HERALD/ ASIA NEWS NETWORK

Pope defies health fears on historic Asia-Pacific tour

Boeing workers overwhelmingly vote to strike, reject contract

Pope Francis wrapped up an arduous 12-day tour of the Asia-Pacific on Friday, defying health concerns to connect with believers from the jungle of Papua New Guinea to the skyscrapers of Singapore.

The 87-year-old pontiff flies home from Singapore within hours, completing his longest trip in duration and distance since he became head of the world's estimated 1.4 billion Roman Catholics more than 13 years ago.

The Argentine pope has relied on a wheelchair since 2022 because of knee pain and sciatica. He had a hernia operation in June 2023, and earlier this year he battled flu and bronchitis.

Occasionally, during his four-nation trip, the pope struggled to keep his eyes open when listening to late-night liturgical readings or to remain engaged during formal military parades.

But he was clearly energised by more freewheeling exchanges -- cheerfully goading young people to shout out their agreement with his calls to help those in need.

In a lively final inter-religious meeting with young Singaporeans, the pope urged them to respect other beliefs, avoid being "slaves" to technology and to get out of their comfort zones.

"Don't let your stomach get fat, but let your head get fat," the pope said, raising a laugh from his audience.

"I say take risks, go out there," he said. "A young person that is afraid and does not take risks is an old person."

The historic tour, initially planned for 2020 but postponed by the Covid-19 pandemic, has included 43 hours of flight time and a distance of 32,000 kilometres (almost 20,000 miles).

- 'Superstition and magic' -

But neither the pace -- 16 speeches and up to eight hours of time difference -- nor the heat, nor multiple meetings have forced any rescheduling of his international odyssey.

On a trip that took him to the outer edges of the Church's world, the pope delivered a sometimes uncomfortable message for leaders not to forget the poor and marginalised.

In Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim-majority state, he visited the capital Istiqlal Mosque to deliver a joint message against conflict and climate change.

In sweltering Papua New Guinea, he donned a Bird of Paradise headdress in a remote, jungle village where he told inhabitants to halt violence and renounce "superstition and magic".

Addressing political and business leaders, he insisted that the country's vast natural resources should benefit the "entire community" -- a demand likely to resound in a nation where many believe their riches are being stolen or squandered.

And in staunchly Roman Catholic East Timor, he addressed nearly half the population, drawing about 600,000 rapturous believers in the tropical heat to a celebration of mass on the island's coast.

Francis addressed East Timor's leaders, hailing a new era of "peace" since independence in 2002.

- 'Deeply touched' -

But he also called on them to do more to prevent abuse against young people, in a nod to recent Catholic Church child abuse scandals.

In the affluent city-state of Singapore, the pope called for "special attention" to be paid to protecting the dignity of migrant workers.

"These workers contribute a great deal to society and should be guaranteed a fair wage," he said.

There are an estimated 170 million migrant workers around the world. Most live in the Americas, Europe or Central Asia.

But the Argentine pope was otherwise full of praise for the "entrepreneurial spirit" and dynamism that built a "mass of ultra-modern skyscrapers that seem to rise from the sea" in his final destination.

Sandra Ross, 55, a church administrator in Singapore, said she was still "feeling the warmth and joy" after attending mass led by the pope.

"I was deeply touched by Pope Francis' courage and dedication to his mission, despite his health challenges. His spirit and enthusiasm are truly inspiring," she said.

"This Asia tour is a beautiful gesture, highlighting the importance of unity and understanding across cultures and faiths."

Lise de Rocquigny, 47, a French expat living in Singapore, said during the visit pope had appeared tired at points but also engaged and "quite fit".

"The pope was really able to convey the messages that are close to his heart: inter-religious dialogue, solidarity, charity, listening to the poor, concern for our home Earth."

Pope’s Grueling Asia Tour Points Toward a Less Western Church

The long trip by a frail, 87-year-old pope was seen as a bold endeavor and a muscular step for a global church looking East.

A large crowd gathers around a white truck carrying the pope.

By Emma Bubola

Emma Bubola followed Pope Francis to Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and Singapore.

Over the last couple of weeks, Pope Francis hoisted himself up on sore legs dozens of times. As he crisscrossed large swaths of the Asia Pacific region, he shuffled from cars to his wheelchair, from the wheelchair to makeshift papal thrones and on and off many planes as hot, tropical winds blew on the tarmac.

The trip amounted to the longest and farthest reaching yet for Francis, and at 87, some of his supporters fear it may be one of his last. But that he flew thousands of miles to Asian countries with relatively small Catholic populations, braving oppressive temperatures and high levels of humidity and pollution, underlined Francis’s commitment to building a church with a less Eurocentric future.

“The long distance, the fatigue, the challenges,” said Cardinal Michael Czerny, a close aide to Francis. “They are part of the message.”

Francis’ papacy has from the start been one of symbols: the small modest cars he’s used, kissing the feet of criminals, the Casio watch he wears. His destinations are as much a part of his teachings as his homilies, and this trip to Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, East Timor and Singapore was seen as part of how he has defined his papacy.

The purpose, he has long made clear, is to emphasize outreach and inclusivity. As he visited remote, tropical villages in Papua New Guinea, he put in practice his pledge to embrace what he calls the church’s “peripheries,” faraway, minority or poorer Catholics.

Asia, home to two thirds of the world’s population and an increasingly central player on the global stage, has long been a focus for Francis. He has been unable to go to China, where the church sees enormous potential but also faces great obstacles. China and the Vatican do not have official diplomatic relations even though Francis signed a groundbreaking and heavily criticized deal with the Chinese government on the appointment of bishops.

But with this trip he completed a tour of much of its surrounding region, visiting eleven countries around China. Francis departs his last stop, Singapore, on Friday, and then returns to the Vatican.

For his supporters, the fact that he did all of this at 87, after suffering a series of health issues, and saying that traveling had become harder, only made his endeavor more meaningful. As Pope Francis shook hands, and gleefully waved to the crowd, bishops held on to their purple skullcaps in the wind and looked on at him in admiration.

“I don’t know where he finds the energy,” said Bishop Jozef Roszynski of Wewak, in Papua New Guinea. “Yesterday he was on the trolley going all over the place.”

Pope Francis showed moments of great vitality during the trip. He spoke off the cuff, cracking jokes about crocodiles, cats, dogs and the Devil. In Papua New Guinea he flew over vast timber forests on an Australian Air Force plane to a remote Pacific town.

There, he put on a feathered headdress, then traveled by the sandy coastline to an even more remote school run by Argentine missionaries, where he drank mate tea. In the capital of a country that has seen bloody tribal violence, he sat in a scorching stadium and asked the thousands of people gathered if they preferred harmony or confusion. Then, like an entertainer, he said, “I can’t hear you,” to get a louder, more emphatic response.

He also had times in which he appeared tired or less engaged. As he gave a speech to leaders in the capital, Port Moresby, and praised a land “so far from Rome but so close to the heart of the Catholic Church,” he stopped several times to cough.

In Jakarta, he did not lead the Mass at the stadium, which would involve lots of standing, and as he arrived in Port Moresby, he appeared to lose his balance for a moment.

But he went on, and locals appreciated the effort.

“Now I feel I am part of a universal church, and that we are not just somewhere remote,” said Justin Ain Soongie, the bishop of Wabag, a small town in the highlands of Papua New Guinea, as he exited a meeting with Francis at a local church with enormous fans slicing through the warm air.

Pope John Paul II visited Papua New Guinea in 1984, at age 63, but Francis, Bishop Ain Soongie pointed out, “took the risk to come especially at this age and on a wheelchair.” By traveling so far away, he added, “He is living what he is saying.”

In East Timor, about half of the country attended a Mass presided over by Francis, and people climbed on roofs to get a glimpse of him. Huge billboards with Francis’ face appeared among sheet metal shacks in impoverished suburbs and in the lush gardens of Singapore. Around the region, faithful wearing suits, dusty T-shirts or straw skirts waved Vatican flags. In Papua New Guinea, troubled by local rivalries, people came together to see the pope, some after walking across the forest for days.

Chris Anowan, 54, a school principal there, traveled to the city of Vanimo one week before Francis’ visit, because the dirt road connecting his village to the town had dried out from rains, and he did not know how long it would remain passable.

“For me, it’s like seeing Saint Peter,” said Mr. Anowan, as he waited for Pope Francis with rosaries and plastic bottles of water ready to be blessed. “It’s the first time a pope comes here,” he said, referring to Vanimo.

Some of those who traveled alongside the pope from Italy, a country where the number of practicing Catholics has steadily declined, were impressed by the local fervor.

While the number of Catholics in Asia is growing at a slower pace than that of Africa, the church is lively here. Countries like Indonesia, where for centuries Europeans went to evangelize, are now exporting missionaries .

“If the Catholic Church wants to have a place in the future it cannot be excluded from Asia,” said Andrea Riccardi, the founder of the Sant’Egidio Community, a Catholic group close to Francis.

Francis, who as a young priest in the Jesuit religious order had wanted to go as a missionary to Japan to follow the centuries-old pursuit of his predecessors, has acknowledged the region’s importance.

He has worked to improve the Catholic Church’s relations with Vietnam as well as China and named over a dozen Asian cardinals — including from countries like East Timor and Singapore, which had never had one.

But Asia, experts say, is also a testing ground for the church, as Catholics here often coexist with bigger religious groups.

“The Catholic Church and the papacy are learning to confront themselves with a world in which Christianity is a minority,” said Massimo Faggioli, a professor of theology at Villanova University, in Pennsylvania. Asia, he said, is “the most challenging continent.”

Indonesia, the main stop of the trip, encapsulated this reality. It is the country with the world’s largest Muslim population, but also home to millions of Christians. Coexistence is at the heart of its identity, even though episodes of intolerance against Christians persist.

There, Pope Francis signed an agreement with Nasaruddin Umar, the leader of Southeast Asia’s biggest mosque, as the two men exchanged affectionate embraces.

“With the pope coming here, other countries will see how we live peacefully together,” Catur Rini, 63, a Muslim woman who had come to the event in Jakarta’s Istiqlal Mosque with her Catholic high school friend. “He will share it with the world.”

In the last stop of his trip in Singapore, a financial powerhouse with only a small Catholic population, Francis filled the city-state’s national stadium with worshipers for a Mass.

Kat Calimag, 32, a veterinarian, had gone there just a few months ago to watch Taylor Swift perform. This time, too, fans screamed and cried.

“Same energy,” she said.
