You’ll drive through 30 km of various spectacular chicanes, switch-backs, hairpin bends and steep camber roads to the highest mountain peak in the United Arab Emirates. The Jebel Jais mountain peak soars at an impressive 1,934 metres above the Arabian Gulf.

At just over 1,600 metres above sea level in the craggy mountains, the Jais Sky Tour takes brave-hearted explorers through a complex route of six ziplines that range from just 337 metres to well over 1 km. The ziplines give you an extraordinary bird’s-eye view as you fly 5 km through the towering Hajar Mountain range wearing a specially fitted harness that provides the least wind resistance, traveling at an average speed of 60kmph.

The entire experience takes approximately 2 hours as you navigate seven platforms connected by six ziplines. The highest platform, the sky bridge, seemingly floats at 300 metres above the ground. Each flyer is seated and securely fastened onto the zip wire by the trained Warrior Group team.

Harris and Walz Point Their Campaign Bus to Rural Georgia

The Democrats’ presidential ticket will head to the Sun Belt, aiming to sway voters in more conservative areas to their side.

Vice President Kamala Harris and Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota, seeking to build Democrats’ momentum in the Sun Belt, will campaign on Wednesday in the rural counties of southeast Georgia before holding a rally on Thursday in Savannah.

Democrats outside the party’s Metro Atlanta engine have long complained that focusing on the capital city, where a majority of Democratic voters in the state live, ignores pockets of supporters in less populous areas. Organizers have emphasized the particular need to engage voters in rural South Georgia and the state’s mountainous northern regions — both heavily conservative parts of the state that will still require high turnout from Black and moderate white voters to keep Democrats competitive.

A visit from the presidential ticket, some rural Democrats say, shows that top party leaders heeded their calls.

“A little does a lot in rural areas,” said Melissa Clink, the former chair of the Democratic Party in Forsyth County, north of the Atlanta suburbs. “If we can get some face time with, especially, the top of the ticket, then not only does that help donors open up their wallets to fund get-out-the-vote operations on the ground but it also inspires more people to do more work because they feel seen.”

The Georgia bus tour is similar to a campaign trip that Ms. Harris and Mr. Walz took to a conservative-leaning county outside Pittsburgh this month. Like South Georgia, Democrats in western Pennsylvania have also said their voters were being unwisely ignored by presidential campaigns. On their tour, Ms. Harris and Mr. Walz made sure to highlight the diversity of the area, engaging with residents in Aliquippa, a former steel town that has a large Black population, where they spent time with a high school football team alongside the former Pittsburgh Steelers star Jerome Bettis. (Mr. Walz is a former high school football coach, which might also play well in Georgia.)

More broadly, Democrats hope Mr. Walz — who flipped a largely rural and more conservative House district in southern Minnesota in 2006 — can help stem their losses with rural and white working-class voters, especially men, who have grown increasingly hostile to their party. He has worked to present a more caring version of masculinity that contrasts with the brash aggressiveness of Mr. Trump.

His party knows it cannot hope to win those rural voters outright. But in what is expected to be a tight election, Democrats are aiming to keep their margins manageable outside the cities and suburbs, something Joseph R. Biden Jr. accomplished during his 2020 campaign. Ms. Harris has made few gains with white men since taking over the ticket.

The Harris campaign says it has invested heavily in rural Georgia, hiring nearly 50 staff members across seven offices, in places including the small cities of Valdosta and Albany close to the Florida line and rural towns like Millen and Cordele, which calls itself the watermelon capital of the world .

Polling shows that Ms. Harris has made Georgia competitive , after it seemed to be slipping out of reach for Mr. Biden. And Mr. Trump has devoted a significant chunk of his advertising budget to the state, suggesting his team also sees the state as being back in play.

In Savannah, where Ms. Harris will hold a rally on Thursday, Democrats are hoping her visit will reignite energy in a city that is home to the second-largest cluster of blue votes in the state.

“Love is an action word — you show people first by your presence,” said Van Johnson, the mayor of Savannah, who has lobbied the Biden and Harris campaigns to campaign in the city for months since Ms. Harris visited in February. “Her presence is going to really be indicative of that esteem she has for our community.”

90,000 fall in Heathrow passenger numbers blamed on 'devastating' new £10 travel permit

Airport bosses have called on Labour to reform the scheme, which was introduced by the previous Conservative government last year.

Monday 12 August 2024 23:28, UK

FILE - People in the arrivals area at Heathrow Airport in London, Jan. 26, 2021. The British government says it will grant extensions to several large U.K. airports unable to meet the June 1 deadline to fully install new scanning technology that would have allowed passengers to take two liters (70 ounces) of liquid in their hand luggage ... rather than the current paltry 100 milliliters (3.5 ounces). (AP Photo/Matt Dunham, File)

Heathrow Airport has claimed it has suffered a 90,000 decline in passenger numbers on routes affected by a new £10-per-person government scheme.

Bosses described the electronic travel authorisation (ETA) system, which was introduced by the Conservative government in November 2023, as "devastating for our hub competitiveness".

The digital permits are required for nationals of seven Middle Eastern countries who do not have a visa or legal residence but wish to enter or transit through the UK.

The £10 fee applies to every affected traveller, including children and babies.

The programme is scheduled to be extended to travellers from most of the rest of the world this autumn.

But Heathrow has now urged the new Labour administration to reform the scheme for the good of the "whole UK economy".

It said in a statement: "The latest data following the introduction of the ETA shows that Heathrow has lost 90,000 transfer passengers on routes operating to and from the seven countries included in the scheme, since its introduction in 2023.

"This is devastating for our hub competitiveness. We urge government to review the inclusion of airside transit passengers.

"Every little bit of extra competitiveness that government can deliver for aviation will help deliver vital growth for the whole of the UK economy ."

ETAs currently apply to affected non-visa nationals of Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Jordan.

They will be introduced for travellers from most other countries this autumn and for European nationals from early next year.

It came as Heathrow reported it had been used by a total of nearly eight million passengers in July, making it Europe's busiest airport in the first half of the year.

Bosses also said the west London airport had "performed well with no material impacts on flights" from issues such as the global IT outage or Just Stop Oil protests .

The airport announced last month that despite a fall in half-year revenues of 2.9%, it achieved an underlying profit of £178m, up from a £139m loss a year earlier.

A Home Office spokesperson said: "We are introducing ETAs to enhance border security and modernise the experience for travellers.

"The government is continuing to keep the requirement for transit passengers to obtain an ETA under review."

Breaking news, will extreme weather impact your labor day travels this holiday weekend.

NEW YORK   — The unofficial end to summer is upon us, and millions of people across the U.S. have packed up and are headed out of town for the Labor Day holiday weekend.

But travelers beware — severe weather could put the brakes on some end-of-season travel plans.

Data from AAA shows an increase in domestic travel over the Labor Day holiday weekend this year, so if you’re among those hoping to hit the beach, explore the great outdoors at a national park or attend a local event you’ll want to have the free FOX Weather app handy for the most up-to-date forecast information in your location.

Labor Day weekend weather: Saturday forecast

Many major cities across the U.S. will experience pleasant temperatures this weekend, which is a welcome change after brutal late-summer heat and humidity that  helped to fire up powerful thunderstorms Monday in the Midwest .

Severe weather was also reported in the Great Lakes region on Tuesday and the northern Plains on Wednesday.

Temperatures are expected to remain in the lower to mid-80s on Saturday in the West, including Seattle and Los Angeles, while cities such as Denver and Atlanta could get into the lower 90s.

Plenty of sunshine is also expected for many in the U.S., but a chance for precipitation could slow travel from Texas and Louisiana through the Mississippi and Ohio valleys, as well as parts of the interior Northeast.

If you’re among the millions hitting the road, you’ll want to keep your speed slow on wet roadways.

And if you’re heading to major airports in those locations, such as Houston and Miami or Atlanta, rain and possible thunderstorms could lead to delayed or canceled flights.

Labor Day weekend weather: Sunday forecast

More travel issues could arise from areas of Texas to the Northeast and New England on Sunday, but the FOX Forecast Center doesn’t expect major storm systems to be impacting those regions.

Either way, airports from the Midwest to the Northeast could be impacted by those pop-up showers and thunderstorms, which could lead to more issues.

And remember, if you’re at an airport where the sky is clear and temperatures are warm, extreme weather hundreds of miles away can still impact your travel plans.

“The crazy thing about Atlanta is that the airport is so big, that when they get delays there, it will affect almost the entire country, especially the East Coast,” FOX Weather Meteorologist Ari Sarsalari said.

Labor Day Weekend weather: Monday forecast

And what about the dreaded trip back home to reality?

There will be more chances for delays on the roads or in the sky thanks to additional rain and thunderstorms impacting portions of the Southwest, Southeast and mid-Atlantic.

Rain could impact the beaches in Florida, and for those of you in the Northeast maybe heading to a local lake or pond to swim, bring an umbrella just in case a shower or two passes by.

Labor Day weekend air travel statistics

If you’re opting to fly to your favorite Labor Day holiday destination rather than drive, you’ll want to keep a close eye on the weather at both your departure airport and the weather at the airport you arrive at.

The graphic above shows the current U.S. air travel statistics, including how many commercial flights are en route, as well as the number of delays and cancellations.

It also shows which airports are seeing the biggest impact due to delays as well as cancellations.

WNBA Rookie of the Year 2024 Race: Caitlin Clark v Angel Reese - who is leading?

The two star rookies are set to go head-to-head for the final time in the regular season as the Indiana Fever travel away to the Chicago Sky on Friday night.

Angel Reese (L) and Caitlin Clark (R) lead a two-horse race for WNBA 2024 Rookie of the Year award

(Getty Images)

The 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year (ROY) race is unfolding to be one of the most electric in years.

Coming off the back of one of the most talked about NCAA women’s basketball tournaments it is perhaps not surprising that the showdown for ROY - drawing ever closer - is garnering so much attention.

But who is leading among the WNBA rookies?

After the news that the No.2 overall draft pick Cameron Brink tore her ACL back in June, the debate surrounding the award has circled two players: Indiana Fever guard and No.1 overall draft pick Caitlin Clark and No.7 pick Angel Reese of the Chicago Sky.

Both players, on and off the court, are becoming household names in basketball. According to a report published by the Sports Business Journal in July, Clark and Reese were first and second in the top-five selling players when it came to league merchandise for the first half of the season.

But of their conquests on the hardwood?

Ahead of their final regular season match-up on Friday 30 August, Olympics.com takes a look at some of Clark and Reese’s remarkable contributions so far this year.

Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever reacts while competing against the Atlanta Dream on August 26, 2024

Why Caitlin Clark should be 2024 Rookie of the Year

Coming off a record-breaking college career, the spotlight was always set to be on Clark from the first tip-off of this year’s WNBA season.

For the most part, the 22-year-old has taken the attention in her stride, even with the knowledge that turning the Fever - a team that finished 10th last season - into a title contender was always going to be a big ask.

Be that as it may, Clark hasn’t shied away from being the playmaker many hoped she would be. Her connection with reigning ROY Aliyah Boston has been a central part of the Fever’s success throughout the regular season and is evidenced on the stat sheet.

At the time of writing, Clark holds two WNBA rookie season records - for most assists and most three-point shots; holds a franchise record for most single-season assists and is the first-ever rookie in the WNBA’s history to record a triple-double (19 points, 13 assists and 12 rebounds), recording the feat against the first-place New York Liberty back in July.

The ROY race is never about the team’s performance but the Fever have returned from the Olympic break with a 4-1 - and Clark too, is surging.

In their win over the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday the rookie netted her 86th three-point shot, surpassing the single-season record set by Rhyne Howard .

But, with any argument, there are two sides and the main case against Clark taking home the title is her turnover rate. The Fever star currently leads the league in turnovers and by some way averaging 7.0 per game.

Could it be enough to undermine her efforts?

Angel Reese in action at the WNBA All-Star Game team practice.

Why Angel Reese should be 2024 Rookie of the Year

Well, if the stats paint a pretty picture for Clark, they also do for Reese. And one arena in which the former LSU star is shining is in the coveted realm of double-doubles.

Thanks to her efforts this season, Reese now holds the record for the most consecutive double-doubles recorded in a WNBA regular season , going 15 games marking the statistical feat.

The previous title holder of that record was the esteemed Candace Parker .

Rebounding in general is where Reese continues to dominate.

As well as leading A’ja Wilson to sit atop the stat sheet for ‘rebounds per game’, on her return from the Olympic break, Reese recorded three consecutive games with 20 or more rebounds .

No player in the WNBA’s history has ever had two 20-rebound games on the bounce meaning that, not only is Reese breaking other people’s records, she’s going where no person has gone before.

But as with Clark, Reese too has her detractors. They point mostly to the rising star’s shooting accuracy and how that has impacted her rebounding statistics.

At the time of writing, the Chicago Sky star is making 38.4 per cent of her shots from the field; 73.7 per cent from the free throw line and 18.2 from beyond the arc.

Will her shooting inefficiency be enough to stop the votes going Reese’s way?

When will WNBA Rookie of the Year 2024 be announced?

The WNBA has not yet announced when this year’s Rookie of the Year will be named.

In 2023, the league revealed the winner in October.

Frontier's new $19 Phoenix-California flights: Where you can fly

Portrait of Michael Salerno

California, here we come again.

Airlines continue adding more ways to get to the Golden State from Arizona. Frontier Airlines resumed service to San Jose, including a route out of Phoenix . Tucson is getting not one but two new flights to Sacramento in 2025.

Now, Frontier has added service at another California airport, including flights to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. The new flight was part of an announcement of 11 new routes across 15 airports nationwide launching in October and November.

"As consumers look ahead to the fall and winter months and make their holiday plans, we are thrilled to once again expand our roster of convenient and affordable travel options," Josh Flyr, Frontier's vice president of network and operations design, said in a statement.

Frontier, an ultra-low-cost carrier,  expanded its network in Phoenix significantly  since opening a crew base at Sky Harbor in November 2022. But the airline has also quietly suspended underperforming routes; for instance, it cut flights between Phoenix and Missoula, Montana , after just three months.

Nightmare flights: 10 absolutely rudest things people do on planes. Just don't, OK?

When do Frontier's Phoenix to Burbank flights begin?

Frontier Airlines' new flights from Phoenix to Burbank, California, will begin Nov. 21.

The airline will fly one arriving and one departing flight four days a week, with the days varying by the week. On most weeks, the flights will operate on Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Frontier will operate five flights on the route during the week before Christmas (Dec. 15-21), flying Sunday through Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

How much do Frontier's Phoenix-Burbank flights cost?

Phoenix-Burbank flights will start at $19. Remember that Frontier charges low base fares with additional fees for seat assignments, carry-on and checked bags and other amenities.

A fare search showed that the lowest rates for flights to both cities were available on most days that did not fall during the Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's holidays.

To get the lowest fares, book before 8:59 p.m. Arizona time on Sept. 2 at flyfrontier.com .

Why is Burbank famous?

Burbank is a suburb of Los Angeles, about 6 miles from Hollywood and about 14 miles from downtown Los Angeles. Flyers often use Hollywood Burbank Airport as an alternative to Los Angeles International Airport.

Burbank is considered the "Media Capital of the World" because it's home to more than 1,000 media and entertainment companies.

Warner Bros. and Disney's film studios are among those located in the city.

Warner Bros. offers studio tours starting at $70. The Walt Disney Studios are not open to the public, but tours are occasionally available via the Disney fan club D23 , Disney Movie Insiders and Adventures by Disney .

History of Ryazan

Foundation of today’s ryazan.

The first settlements arose on the territory of today’s Ryazan as early as the Middle Paleolithic era (from 300,000 to 30,000 years ago). Near the city, in the village of Dubrovichi, archaeologists discovered a flint ax made more than 80 thousand years ago - the most ancient material monument found in the Ryazan region.

Slavic tribes, in this case the Vyatichi, came to the Oka around the 6th century AD. Already in the 7th-8th centuries, a whole network of settlements was founded around the future Ryazan. These people were mainly engaged in arable farming.

Until the middle of the 10th century, the Vyatichi, like several other East Slavic tribal unions, were politically dependent on the Khazar Khaganate (650-969). The Old Russian state played the decisive role in its decline. In 964, Prince Svyatoslav freed the last Slavic tribe of the Vyatichi dependent on the Khazars. The Ryazan and Murom lands were included into the Old Russian state.

The presence of several large settlements on this territory led to the need to create a single military center. In 1095, the town of Pereyaslavl-Ryazansky was founded on a high hill at the confluence of the Trubezh and Lybid rivers.

More Historical Facts…

Ryazan in the 12th-17th centuries

At the beginning of the 12th century, the Ryazan lands separated into an independent Murom-Ryazan principality. It was a time of rivalry between its two largest towns - Ryazan and Murom - for the right to be the capital of the new principality.

As a result, Ryazan, which was located about 50 km down the Oka River from Pereyaslavl-Ryazansky, won, since it was here that the princely court was taking place, the episcopal see was located, feudal unions were concluded, from here the princely troops went on military campaigns. Moreover, Ryazan was well fortified. Pereyaslavl-Ryazansky by this time was one of the fortified outposts of the principality, surrounded by a network of guard posts.

In the winter of 1237, a large Mongol army (tens of thousands of people) approached the walls of Ryazan. This was one of the first episodes of the Mongol invasion of Rus and the western campaign of the Mongols. The town was captured after several days of siege.

The main military forces of the principality were defeated earlier in the battle on the Voronezh River. Ryazan with a population of up to 8 thousand people was completely destroyed. It was never able to recover and soon the few surviving residents left it. Today, this place is known as Old Ryazan. The capital of the principality was moved to Pereyaslavl-Ryazansky.

By the 14th century, Pereyaslavl was finally formed as the capital of the principality. The heart of the town was the fortress (kremlin) with wooden walls and twelve towers. At the beginning of the 15th century, the construction of the Ryazan Kremlin with stone buildings began. In 1611, during the Time of Troubles, Ryazan initiated the convening of the first people’s militia to free Moscow from the Poles. The Ryazan nobleman Prokopiy Lyapunov was elected its head.

Ryazan in the 18th-19th centuries

In 1778, with the formation of the Ryazan Governorship, Pereyaslavl-Ryazansky received the name Ryazan and its own coat of arms depicting the figure of the Prince with a sword in his hand. In 1780, the regular plan of Ryazan was approved.

The ensemble of the Ryazan Kremlin with the beautiful Assumption Cathedral (1693-1699) remained the center of the town. In 1787, an opera and drama theater, one of the oldest in Russia, was opened in Ryazan. By the end of the 18th century, about 8 thousand people lived in Ryazan.

In 1837, a large fire destroyed a lot of wooden buildings. The construction of new stone buildings began, including artillery barracks (the building of the hospital on Pervomaisky Avenue). In 1860, about 21.6 thousand people lived in Ryazan. In 1863, a railway line connected Ryazan with Moscow. Ryazan became a major railway hub. By 1897, the population of the city was 46 thousand people.

Ryazan in the 20th century

In 1913, the city power plant was put into operation. In December 1915, the first female teacher’s institute in the Russian Empire was founded in Ryazan. In 1930, after the liquidation of the Ryazan Governorate, Ryazan became a district center of Moscow Oblast. In 1937, it became the administrative center of the newly formed Ryazan Oblast. In 1939, its population was about 95,000.

In the fall of 1941, during the Second World War, the front line reached the Ryazan region. Ryazan was of great strategic importance, as highways connecting Moscow with the central and eastern regions of the country passed through it. German troops were stopped 30 kilometers from the city.

The rapid development of Ryazan began immediately after the war. The city turned into a large industrial, scientific, and military center of the European part of Russia, home to giant factories that occupied entire urban districts: the Ryazan oil refinery (the largest in Europe), “Ryazselmash” (the only manufacturer of potato harvesting equipment in the USSR), the calculating and analytical machine plant, the heavy forging and pressing equipment plant, the chemical fiber plant, etc.

Several large universities were opened in Ryazan - a medical university, a radio engineering academy, an agricultural institute, and an institute of culture. The military potential of the city was finally formed. Ryazan becomes the main training center for the Soviet Airborne Forces. The city was surrounded by numerous training centers and military training grounds.

Greening became one of the city’s fundamental development strategies. Ryazan was surrounded by green rings of forests and parks. Large parks were laid out in every district of the city. Ryazan was repeatedly declared the winner in greening among the cities of the Soviet Union. By 1987, the city’s population exceeded half a million people.

During the years of Soviet power, the population of Ryazan grew more than fivefold. The city participated in the state program for providing housing to builders of the North - a lot of workers of enterprises located beyond the Arctic Circle subsequently received apartments and registration in the city. Some decline in growth was observed in the 1990s, coinciding with the general demographic decline in Russia. In 1995, Ryazan celebrated its 900th anniversary.

Ryazan - Features

Ryazan, one of the oldest cities in Central Russia, is located in the center of the East European Plain, in the northwestern part of Ryazan Oblast. It is included in the so-called inner ring of large cities located 150-200 km from Moscow.

About 50 km downstream of the Oka River there is a historical and landscape museum-reserve Old Ryazan - the old capital of the Great Ryazan principality. The present city (initially known as Pereyaslavl-Ryazansky) was renamed in its honor in 1778.

The climate of the city is moderately continental. Summer in Ryazan is warm, winter is moderately cold. The average temperature in July is plus 19.2 degrees Celsius, in February - minus 7.9 degrees Celsius.

The coat of arms and flag of Ryazan represent the image of the Prince holding a silver sword in his right hand, and a silver scabbard in his left. The sword raised to the chest symbolizes defense. The Prince is a collective image of the defender of the Motherland and has nothing to do with a specific person. The City Day of Ryazan is celebrated on the first Saturday in August.

The favorable economic and geographical position of Ryazan on the navigable Oka River, proximity to Moscow predetermined the significant development of the city. Ryazan is crossed by the M5 Ural Highway, railway lines to the south and to the center of Russia. The leading local industries are tool making, machine tool building, power engineering, petrochemistry, mechanical engineering, metallurgy, building materials industry, woodworking, food and flour-and-cereal industries.

Main Attractions of Ryazan

Ryazan Kremlin - the oldest part of Ryazan, a historical and architectural open-air museum-reserve, an architectural monument of federal importance. The construction of stone fortifications in Pereyaslavl-Ryazansky (today’s Ryazan) began in the 15th century. The main structures built in the 17th century have survived to this day. In total, the Ryazan Kremlin ensemble includes 18 monuments of history and culture of the 11th-19th centuries. You can reach it by any public transport that goes to Sobornaya Square.

Assumption Cathedral (1663-1699) - the main dominant of the Ryazan Kremlin built in the Naryshkin Baroque style. The stylized image of this cathedral is one of the symbols of Ryazan. The Assumption Cathedral and its bell tower are built in such a way that they can be seen from almost anywhere in the city. For a long time, they served as a visual reference point when navigating on the Oka River. Inside there is a magnificent 27-meter iconostasis, consisting of 7 tiers and decorated with stone carvings - a real masterpiece of decorative art.

Nativity of Christ Cathedral - the first stone building on the territory of the Ryazan Kremlin and one of the oldest buildings in Ryazan Oblast. The cathedral was founded by the Grand Prince Oleg Ryazansky on the territory of his court at the end of the 14th century. In the 14th-15th centuries, five Ryazan princes and three princesses were buried in the Nativity of Christ Cathedral. As a result of numerous reconstructions, the current architectural appearance of this cathedral combines elements of baroque and classicism.

Palace of Prince Oleg - the largest civil building on the territory of the Ryazan Kremlin, which was built in stages over the 17th-19th centuries. Until the 16th century, a princely court with bishops chambers was located here. Today, the premises of the palace house the exposition “From Rus to Russia”, as well as exhibitions “Old Ryazan” and “The Legend of Evpatiy Kolovrat”.

Soborny (Cathedral) Park - a public garden located near the Ryazan Kremlin, where residents and visitors of the city like to stroll in the shade of trees. The most convenient way to get to Soborny Park is from Sobornaya Square, through the front entrance with columns. The main alley of this park leads to the Ryazan Kremlin and the Ryazan Embankment. There are several interesting sights here: the Church of the Savior on Yar, Ilyinsky Cathedral, the monument to Sergei Yesenin, the chapel of the 900th anniversary of Ryazan. It is a place where you can buy Ryazan souvenirs, ride horses.

Ryazan Art Museum named after Ivan Pozhalostin - one of the oldest art museums in Russia. The collection includes about 12,000 works of Russian and Western European art of the late 15th-20th centuries: paintings, graphics, sculptures, decorative and applied art, folk art. The collection of Western European art includes paintings by Italian, Dutch, French artists, porcelain from Germany, France, and England.

The collection of Russian art includes Old Russian icons and sculptures, Russian paintings, sculptures and graphics of the 18th-20th centuries, including works by local artists, porcelain, glass, and furniture. A significant section of the collection is the folk art of the Ryazan land: costumes, weaving, embroidery, lace, ceramics, clay toys. Svobody Street, 57.

Museum of the History of the Airborne Forces - the first and largest official museum on this subject. On both sides of the entrance, on the pedestals, you can see combat vehicles, artillery and airborne self-propelled guns. The basis of the exposition is made up of banners of airborne divisions and brigades that participated in the Second World War, examples of Russian and foreign small arms, parachutes, military equipment. Margelova Square, 1. The historical and memorial hall of military equipment and weapons of the Airborne Forces, a branch of this museum, is located at Voyennykh Avtomobilistov Street, 12.

Memorial Museum-Estate of Academician Ivan Pavlov - one of the most famous sights of Ryazan located in its center. The complex consists of picturesque wooden buildings, among which there is a two-storey house of the early 20th century, where the world famous physiologist Ivan Pavlov, the first Russian Nobel Prize winner, lived. Inside, the historic interior was recreated with Pavlov’s personal belongings. Pavlova Street, 25.

Summer Club of the Noble Assembly (1905) - a beautiful wooden house decorated with skillful carvings, the main decoration of the Ryazan City Park. Until 1917, the local aristocracy met here to chat, discuss current events, or just relax on pleasant summer evenings. Today, it houses the center of folk art. Uritskogo Street, 72.

Sculpture “Mushrooms with Eyes” - an interesting sculpture dedicated to the famous Ryazan proverb about mushrooms - “In Ryazan, mushrooms have eyes.” Allegedly, because of this, it is difficult to gather mushrooms in the surrounding forests. The art object depicts a whole family: a father mushroom and his two sons surrounded by forest dwellers. It was installed on the territory of the Lower City Garden in 2013. Lenina Street, 26.

Long-range aviation museum at the Dyagilevo air base . The exposition of this thematic museum and exhibition complex brings together a large number of objects related to the history of the development and use of military aviation of the USSR and Russia: combat aircraft, examples of weapons and equipment, uniforms, equipment, personal belongings and awards of pilots, documents, maps, photographs, etc. It is located about 11 km west of Ryazan. A visit to this museum is possible only as part of an excursion group (5+ people) and by prior arrangement. The tour takes two hours and you can take pictures for free.

Sergei Yesenin Museum-Reserve in Konstantinovo . This museum complex located about 40 km from Ryazan is devoted to one of the most well-known Russian poets of the 20th century. The main building is the wooden house of the poet’s parents, where his personal belongings and old photographs of the family are kept. In the 1980s, a whole ensemble of museum buildings was formed in Konstantinovo, which included the estate of L. I. Kashina with an adjoining park, a village school building, the Church of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, and other objects.

Starozhilovsky Stud Farm . It was founded by order of Baron von Dervies in the 1890s. The stud farm building constructed in the Gothic style by the architect Fyodor Shekhtel is of particular interest. Unfortunately, during the Second World War, during the evacuation across the Oka, all the horses died. Today, about 300 horses are kept here. The stud farm is located about 55 km south of Ryazan in the village of Starozhilovo.

The questions of our visitors

The comments of our visitors.

I came to Ryazan in 1990 to fly hot air balloons! We all had great time and your hospitality was wonderful. Our translator was a girl called Olga who later came to visit us, with her mother, in the UK.

I never realised the incredible history of the area when I was there. It was such a short stay. I'm getting older now but will never forget your kindness. Maybe I'll plan another visit!

Great to read your website, I'm glad I found it. When Olga visited she gave us three small glass hedgehogs as a present which I still have and I was trying to find their origin! If you know Olga and mum say hallo from me!
