RWHP or Crank? In 03, the 7.3's had a slight programming change, at least that's what Ford says, and it increased the hp/tq numbers but I doubt you can "feel" the difference.

I don't know, but I am interested in the info also. Wednesday I bought my X out of Houston. Allstate Motorcars on southwest freeway.

Heh moxyspirit how do you like your Ex so far ?

2003 ford excursion 7.3 diesel specs

Hey you Houston guys I am in NW Houston (Tomball-Cypress) and am looking to buy a 7.3 4x4 Excursion. If you see a good one on a lot or know of one for sale by an individual let me know. dunbarkimmes at yahoo dot com. Robert, I am interested in your mods and would like to see your truck and discuss what I could do with one when I get it. I also need help on exactly which year model to get. I do not know what changes were made from 2000 to 2003 or the 2004 models with a 7.3. Any pointers to a FAQ that details them? Thanks, Dunbar

I love it, but it is the wife's vehicle. I am starting to look for a Crew Cab dually 7.3L. The overhead MPG was reading 14.1. Now it is up to 16.6 Mpg, since I am running the 100Hp predator program. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/phoney.gif I have replaced the water pump and ball joints, one door lock actuator and the rear end seal. Need to install the DIY tymar filter this weekend and the ccv mod. Also the coolant filter needs to installed.

Thanks SmokeyWren 250 HP @ 2,600 RPM, 525 torque @ 1600 RPM [/ QUOTE ]

Dunbar you need to talk to moxyspirit, it looks like he is WAY INTO more mods than me. All of mine have been made at Diesel Innovations on FM 1960 and Jones rd. The 7.3 was last sold in the 2003 model. It took me about 4 months to find mine. i was checking the chronicle, North Freeway Leader, Greensheet, ford's dealer website and trader dot com publications EVERY DAY. Finally found mine in New Braunsfels after having drove to Dallas, San Antonio and Beaumont. [ QUOTE ] dunbarkimmes at yahoo dot com. moxyspirit You do realize that once you hook up a program or chip that your displayed "MPG" by the computer could be SEVERLY misleading ? When i went to get my Ex in New Braunsfels, it was recording 21 mpg and the dealer guy actually thought that was what it was really getting. when i got it home, and over to DI Perf for my chip, they told me it had some kind of program in the computer. I think David's program clears it out when on the 0 setting though. i drive the crap out of my Ex and still get 13 mpg around town, 17 on the hwy. (quote) The overhead MPG was reading 14.1. Now it is up to 16.6 Mpg, since I am running the 100Hp predator program. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/phoney.gif

My mileage is around 17 most of the time. It is just nice to see the computer change with the program. No, I did not realize the programmer effect. By the way. I am getting 19.25 mpg on the F250 since the installed the DP F5 chip running 80econo. Hand calculated, of course. It does not have an overhead, it is a XL. Now I need to install the 3.08 rear end gear like Dave Whittmer. He is in the 26 mpg area. You cannot change it on a 4x4 and no research has been done on non-4x4 with a auto transmission.

Moxie can't you change the ratio if you change the FRONT AND BACK at the same time ? DAMN ! 26 mpg ?? where is his post, i gotta read this !! [ QUOTE ] By the way. Look at the posts by username "Dave Whitmer".

A few months back their was a write-up on him and his truck in one of the Diesel magazines (maybe "Diesel Power"). The story was short, but gave the idea of how good the mileage could be. The big change was the ratio. I called Dave at home and asked him a few questions (nice guy). The problem with the 4x4 is matching the ratio to the rear 3.08. It seems the last time we (I) talked on here about the gear ratio someone piped up with a front gear match, but I don't remember for sure. Dave even tows with it.

Bump

Heh Moxie i haven't had a chance to read all of his posts yet, but I will. Have you had any replies on the gearing issue yet ?

I went back through my old posts. Did not find anything. Here is a link to Ring and Pinion: Click Me If it is possible, they will be able to help you. I looked through the front end stuff and only found 3.73 ratio and up. Good luck. When I go to the 3.08 ratio, I will buy from these guys.

The Main Differences Between Ford's 7.3 Gas & 6.7 Diesel Engines

F ord's Super Duty line of heavy-duty pickup trucks, part of the automaker's best-selling F-Series, is highly regarded for its reputation as a dependable work truck. At the heart of that dependability and capacity for work lies some of the most powerful V8 engines ever put into a pickup truck, namely the gasoline powered 7.3-liter V8 and the 6.7-liter Power Stroke Turbo Diesel V8.

While you'll have to decide if a diesel or gasoline pickup truck is better for you , either engine option will provide enough power and reliability to get your Ford Super Duty pickup truck wherever you want to go. The standard engine and available options will depend on which Super Duty fits your needs the best. For example, the 2024 Ford Super Duty F-250 XLT comes with the 7.3-liter gas V8, while the F-450 XL Super Duty features the 6.7-liter Power Stroke as its standard engine.

Let's explore some of the history and specs of each engine. After that, we'll highlight some of the main differences between the two Ford Super Duty engine choices.

Ford's 7.3-Liter Gasoline-Powered V8

Ford introduced its 7.3-liter V8 motor to the world in 2020. Dubbed the Godzilla Engine, it was different from most other modern V8s because it was Ford's first completely new pushrod valve train V8 design in some time.

By avoiding the overhead cam design, popular in today's performance engines, Ford engineers designed the massive 7.3-liter displacement Godzilla engine to exist in a smaller space. By borrowing technology and materials developed for its turbocharged engine applications, Ford built increased longevity and strength into the 7.3L while keeping it lightweight. Ford claims the 7.3-liter Godzilla engine is "smaller, lighter, provides more torque and hp, plus better fuel economy than its 6.8L predecessor."

The 7.3-liter Ford V8 features a cast iron block with 4.21-inch (106.93 mm) cylinder bores and aluminum heads with two valves per cylinder and high flow intake and exhaust ports. The forged steel crankshaft, secured by five main bearings, provides 3.98 inches (101.09 mm) of stroke, delivering a 10.5:1 compression ratio. Air induction is naturally aspirated, and fuel delivery is provided by sequential fuel injection. Overall, the engine weighs 580 pounds (263.1 kg) and delivers 430 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and up to 475 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm.

Ford's 6.7-Liter Power Stroke Diesel

Considered one of the most reliable Ford Power Stroke diesels ever made , the 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel V8 debuted in the 2011 model year Ford Super Duty lineup. In service for over a decade, the 6.7-liter Power Stroke has received some improvements. The most notable changes occurred in 2015 with an updated Garrett GT37 variable-geometry turbocharger, and in 2020 with new programming and boost parameters.

Ford uses CGI technology, compacted graphite iron, and aluminum cylinder heads to create an engine that's both lightweight and strong enough to withstand the 6.7-liter Power Stroke's horsepower and torque. Compared to the 7.3-liter Godzilla engine, the 6.7 has smaller, 3.90-inch (99.06 mm) cylinder bores, a longer 4.24-inch (107.65 mm) crankshaft stroke, and a higher compression ratio of 16.2:1.

Along with high compression, the 6.7-liter Power Stroke's single turbocharger and direct fuel injection combine to produce up to 330 horsepower at 2,500 rpm with 725 lb-ft of torque at 1,800 rpm in the Super Duty.

What Are The Main Differences Between Ford's 7.3-Liter Gas And 6.7-Liter Power Stroke Diesel Engines?

We've already let it slip that the 7.3-liter gas engine makes 100 more horsepower, while the 6.7-liter Power Stroke has substantially more torque (295 lb-ft more, to be exact). However, the most significant aspect of the power delivery comparison between these two engines is the diesel's ability to deliver its power at lower rpm ranges.

The Power Stroke's low-end power is welcome to anyone pulling heavily loaded trailers or hauling substantial payloads. Of course, if you just want to zip around in your truck, leaving other cars behind at stoplights, the 7.3 is a fine option for that while still being capable of doing more work than most people will ever request from their pickup truck.

As far as fuel economy goes, the 6.7-liter diesel gets slightly better fuel mileage, and by slightly we're talking about one to three mpg depending on how you're using the truck. That gap increases somewhat when towing large trailers, but with diesel currently averaging about 17 cents more per gallon than regular unleaded gasoline in the Midwest (via U.S. Energy Information Administration ) the Power Stroke's advantage is relatively small.

The Unique Burial of a Child of Early Scythian Time at the Cemetery of Saryg-Bulun (Tuva)

<< Previous page

Pages:  379-406

In 1988, the Tuvan Archaeological Expedition (led by M. E. Kilunovskaya and V. A. Semenov) discovered a unique burial of the early Iron Age at Saryg-Bulun in Central Tuva. There are two burial mounds of the Aldy-Bel culture dated by 7th century BC. Within the barrows, which adjoined one another, forming a figure-of-eight, there were discovered 7 burials, from which a representative collection of artifacts was recovered. Burial 5 was the most unique, it was found in a coffin made of a larch trunk, with a tightly closed lid. Due to the preservative properties of larch and lack of air access, the coffin contained a well-preserved mummy of a child with an accompanying set of grave goods. The interred individual retained the skin on his face and had a leather headdress painted with red pigment and a coat, sewn from jerboa fur. The coat was belted with a leather belt with bronze ornaments and buckles. Besides that, a leather quiver with arrows with the shafts decorated with painted ornaments, fully preserved battle pick and a bow were buried in the coffin. Unexpectedly, the full-genomic analysis, showed that the individual was female. This fact opens a new aspect in the study of the social history of the Scythian society and perhaps brings us back to the myth of the Amazons, discussed by Herodotus. Of course, this discovery is unique in its preservation for the Scythian culture of Tuva and requires careful study and conservation.
