The Witcher 3 Velen – No Man’s Land Places of Power locations map

As you explore The Witcher 3 ’s world, you’ll encounter Places of Power . These magical stones temporarily increase the intensity of Geralt’s Signs . You’ll also receive an Ability Point the first time you visit each Place of Power.

To use a Place of Power, approach the glowing stone and press the prompted button. Pressing it briefly will get you your Sign buff, but you’ll have to hold it down for a couple seconds to collect your Ability Point on your first visit.

Below, we’ve got a map for all six Places of Power in Velen – No Man’s Land .

Velen – No Man’s Land is the second area you’ll explore in The Witcher 3 . It’s also much larger than White Orchard . Once the Places of Power are marked as Points of Interest question marks (along with everything else remotely interesting in the region), you’ll have a lot of exploring to do to reach them.

Use our map above to sort out which of those question marks are Places of Power. We’ve also labeled the area’s Signposts to make it easier to Fast Travel close to each.

Visiting a Place of Power will buff the associated Sign for 30 minutes.

The Witcher 3 Act One - Velen quests

Here's everything you need to know about Velen (No Man's Land) in Act One of The Witcher 3.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is truly sodding enormous, and it is at this stage - entering Velen (No Man's Land) during Act One of the game - that some of you may feel an urge to cry. Don't fret too much, though, as you need not complete everything in Velen at once. You can always return here later to finish things off!

That said, there are a few things you'll need to do before scarpering off. In this walkthrough of Velen during Act One of The Witcher 3 , we detail everything you can do at this point of the game and how to do it.

The Witcher 3: Act One starts in Vizima, but soon drops us down at a familiar looking tree you may remember from an early, stirring cinematic trailer. This one fast travel signpost is your key to the entirety of Velen, including areas like Novigrad and Oxenfurt.

There are so, so many quests in this area, and such a huge number many points of interest to uncover, that you'd be mad to go after them all right now. Much of the content in Velen is very high level, and while it's not gated, you should pay attention to CD Projekt's RED's level recommendations. Not only will they help you avoid repeat, violent deaths, they're an excellent guide to what you should be doing now, and what you should leave for later visits.

Imperial Audience

The nilfgaardian connection, the bloody baron, family matters, a princess in distress, hunting a witch, wandering in the dark, ladies of the wood, the whispering hillock, velen (no man's land) secondary quests.

For more help on your journey, here's our The Witcher 3 guide and walkthrough , as well as our Hearts of Stone walkthrough , and Blood and Wine walkthrough . These pages contain tips and guides to help you throughout your adventure as Geralt of Rivia.

The Witcher 3: 10 Must-Do Side Quests While Visiting Velen

After completing the tutorial and visiting Vizima, players are dropped into the region of Velen, a dreary swampland hiding some of the best quests.

With the successful TV adaptation of Andrej Sapkowski's  Witcher   novels on Netflix and the promise of an exciting second season, there has been a renewed interest surrounding  The Witcher  franchise, particularly with regards to CD Projekt Red's  Witcher 3: Wild Hunt . While six years have passed since the game's initial release, this grand epic offers fans the golden opportunity to delve deeper into the rich world that is  The Witcher .

RELATED:  The Witcher: 5 Marvel Heroes Geralt Can Defeat (& 5 He Can't)

Despite its vast history and lore,  Wild Hunt  serves as an opportune place for newcomers to enter the universe. However, the colossal open worlds this title boasts  can be overwhelming, making many of its stellar side quests easily missable. After completing the tutorial and visiting Vizima, players are dropped into the region of Velen, a dreary swampland hiding some of the game's most compelling stories.

10 Witcher Wannabe: Understanding The Law Of Surprise

This quest only appears in Lindenvale after Geralt has completed the Merry Widow contract . When Geralt returns, he finds the disgruntled village elder muttering about another witcher nearby. Talking to the ealdorman reveals the witcher had claimed his daughter's unborn child as a reward for a contract he was fulfilling.

This quest   is one of several examples in the Witcher  universe that showcases the dubious Law of Surprise. Upon further investigation, Geralt discovers the witcher to be an imposter struggling to kill a ghoul. After confronting the imposter, Geralt must choose whether or not to oust the man to the townspeople.

9 Defender of the Faith: Religion Is A Means Of Survival

As players progress through Velen, they begin to learn that the locale worship deities called "the Crones." As the Downwarren ealdorman explains to Geralt, their offerings to these occult creatures is their means of survival in Velen. Although Geralt himself is skeptical of this life approach, he nevertheless aids a woman at a roadside in repairing a vandalized shrine.

After doing so, the woman reveals that several of the region's shrines have been desecrated. Should Geralt choose to fix the shrines, he'll run across students from Oxenfurt Academy vandalizing the last shrine. To successfully complete the quest, Geralt must engage in a brawl with the young academics who have taken up arms against the faith.

8 Funeral Pyres: The Church Of The Eternal Fire's Hypocrisy

Funeral Pyres can be started nearby Mulbrydale, the first village Geralt happens upon in Velen. A priest of the Eternal Fire rather condescendingly asks Geralt to burn the dead across three battlefields, as they're attracting necrophages. Should the witcher comply, he'll find a man named Titus alive on the last battlefield.

Conversing with the man reveals the priest to actually be a fisstech customer who ordered Titus to be killed upon their last trade, and likely used the witcher to cover his tracks. An excellent introduction to the deep corruption seeded in the Church of the Eternal Fire, this quest also teases one of the major factions Geralt will encounter in  Wild Hunt .

7 Thou Shalt Not Pass: Securing Passage Into Novigrad

While not mandatory, this simple quest is typically needed in order for Geralt to cross into the game's second region (if he doesn't feel like swimming): Novigrad. However, in order to pass the Pontar, Geralt needs a pass; fortunately, there are three ways for the witcher to get his hands on one.

RELATED:  10 Fantasy Comics To Read If You Like Netflix's The Witcher

Progressing the main story in Velen will eventually yield one as the Bloody Baron gives Geralt passage into Oxenfurt. However, if players aren't interested in hanging out in the swamps, they can either complete the Redanian guard's Woodland Beast contract or shady merchant's Fake Papers quest to reach Novigrad more quickly.

6 A Towerful of Mice: Exploring The Curse Of Fyke Isle

A Towerful of Mice is perhaps one of the most wholesome quests in Velen. At the request of Keira Metz, Geralt works to unravel a curse on the deserted isle of Fyke. This quest, however, only unlocks if Geralt chose to help Keira recover a magic lamp after searching for Ciri in the Mysterious Elf's hideout.

RELATED:  Which Witcher 3 Character Are You Based On Your Zodiac?

Geralt can then use the lamp to uncover the tragic story of the island's past. Doing so allows the players to more fully explore his subsequent conversation with the wraith Anabelle. The quest not only shines with a poignant story that epitomizes the tragedy that defines the world of the Witcher so well, but also opens the door for a couple more pivotal side quests.

5 Forefathers' Eve: Shop Discounts From The Pellar

Immediately following A Towerful of Mice, Geralt will be besieged by the Pellar from Blackbough, who requests the witcher's aid in enacting Forefathers' Eve, a ritual that has long been upheld by the people of Velen. Accepting the Pellar's request takes Geralt back to Fyke Isle where he'll be tasked with staving off monsters during the ceremony .

Unfortunately, the ceremony will be interrupted by witch hunters from the Church of the Eternal Fire, forcing Geralt to choose between siding with the hunters or the Pellar. By aiding the latter, Geralt will receive a nice discount at the Pellar's shop upon the quest's completion, which is particularly useful due to the valuable diagrams, runestones, and glyphs he sells.

4 Where the Cat and Wolf Play: You're Not The Only Witcher

Inexperienced players should wait before attempting this quest, as the enemies are much higher levels than the rest of Velen (due to it being DLC). What initially starts out as a typical contract takes a dark turn when Geralt comes across a massacre at the village of Honorton.

Upon discovering a frightened girl, Geralt learns that the killing was the work of a witcher, and proceeds to track down Gaetan from the School of the Cat. After a terse exchange, Geralt can choose whether or not to fight the witcher. Fortunately, regardless of Geralt's choice, Gaetan will either carry or reveal the location of his steel sword Teigr, a cool, unique item that cannot be obtained anywhere else .

3 Ghosts of the Past: A Callback To Assassins Of Kings

Perhaps the hardest quest to "find" in Velen, this quest requires players to either simulate or import a save from  The Witcher 2 where the witcher Letho survives events of Assassins of Kings . Should he survive, Geralt will come across a booby-trapped Reardon when first visiting the mansion.

Geralt will proceed to find the Viper in the mansion's attic, where he'll reveal to the Wolf that Nilfgaard has decided he needs to be eliminated. As Geralt escorts his fellow witcher , events will quickly culminate to Letho faking his own death, which then opens up the option for him to become a potential ally for a future battle should Geralt invite him to Kaer Morhen.

2 For the Advancement of Learning: A Friend Or A Foe?

This is the last quest in the series of side missions for Keira Metz, and showcases just how dramatic player choices can be in affecting the outcome of events later in  Wild Hunt . Beginning immediately after A Favor for a Friend, Geralt wakes up after shaking off Keira's sleeping spell and notices a light in the tower on Fyke Isle.

Approaching the tower triggers a cutscene that ultimately yields three potential outcomes: killing Keira, letting her bargain with Radovid, or convincing her to depart for Kaer Morhen. While killing her yields the maximum amount of experience possible for the quest, Geralt can also find another future ally in her (like Letho) should he convince her to travel to Kaer Morhen instead.

1 Return to Crookback Bog: Closure For The Bloody Baron

One of the most prolific quest arcs in  Wild Hunt  is the story of Phillip Strenger, the Bloody Baron. The last quest to his story, however, is only an optional one, but it is an emotional one at that. After discovering that his wife is being hostage by the Crones at Crookback Bog, the Baron takes his men to storm the orphanage.

Should Geralt choose to join them at Downwarren, they will fight off several waves of monsters alongside Tamara Strenger and witch hunters before finding his wife, Anna. The profound element of this quest is that its outcome is determined well before players start it, illustrating the multilayered narrative that makes  The Witcher 3  so iconic.

The Witcher 3 - Velen: Secondary Quests, Contracts and secrets

Our guide to finding every side quest and Contract in the Velen region of The Witcher 3, and how to finish up each and every one of them.

Velen: in parts miserable and swampy, in others pleasant and bucolic. It's home to some pretty creepy folk, from werewolves to giant chickens, and the creature from the black lagoon. There are a few low level quests available that you should be able to do on your first plot-related visit, and some you'll need to come back for much later.

For the CCG fans amongst you, there are also a few Gwent leagues to get stuck into, and you can try your hand at a spot of horse racing as well. Fancy something a little meatier? Well, you can always engage in some fisticuffs against the local talent if you wish.

If you're looking for more assistance, our Witcher 3 walkthrough can help.

Deadly Crossing (1) and Defender of the Faith (1)

Deadly Crossing (1)

When you reach the Troll Bridge marked on your map, you'll be challenged to hand over some dosh or face the consequences. Here are the choices you can make to finish up the quest.

  • Pay the 50 crowns to cross
  • Use Axii to confuse your opponents
  • Kill them, then lower the bridge yourself with the winch

Defender of the Faith (1)

Head to Duen Hen and listen to the angry woman. You'll need to visit three shrines - one is at the top of Duen Hen, another is by the junction of the road heading east out of Blackbough, while the final one can be found near the Byways signpost in the south-west section of Velen.

You'll face a few vandals at the final shrine you visit. Agree with the speaker to simply finish up the quest, or disagree if you fancy a good old-fashioned fight.

Face Me If You Dare and Forefather's Eve

Face Me If You Dare

Fight Ronvid until he gives up rather abruptly, but keep your eyes out for this character - you may well stumble into him in a few days' time.

Forefather's Eve

Return to Fyke Isle at midnight and speak to the pellar, then fight off the bad guys - you'll face a mixture of ghouls, witch hunters, and wraiths. Once everyone is safe, head to the swamps and use your Witcher Senses to find the pellar's father's corpse. Use Igni to set fire to it, then talk to the pellar again.

Highway Robbery and Last Rites

Highway Robbery

Travel towards the Boatmaker's Hut south of Crow's Perch and you might see a trader under attack. It's a trap! Kill every last one of them to finish this quest.

Find the old woman by the bridge in Blackbough, but keep in mind she only shows up at night. After talking to her, head north-west towards the woods until you come to a graveyard. Kill the ghouls nearby, then locate the gravestone with your Witcher Senses. Use the Magic lamp to watch the ghosts come together.

Go back to Blackbough and find Lessy's hut. Talk to her and pick up your reward

Looters (1) and Master Armorers

Looters (1)

Look for a gang hanging around on the path just east of Heartherton, to the north-east of Wolven Glade. Kill them all to finish the quest.

Master Armorers

Talk to Fergus in Crow's Perch until you've discussed the "impossible armour. After Yoana speaks up, go to Undvik (you want to be quite high level at this point), and moor up at the Marlin Coast point. Head north-west to the ship graveyard, then go over the bridges until you come to the large ship. Go past this to Hjalmar's Camp, before heading to Urska.

When you reach Urska, go up into the cave, then drop down, before heading through the tunnels until you come to Tordarroch Forge. Take a left until you come to a new cave. Enter, kill the rock troll, then go up to the hearth. Use your Witcher Senses to get the chest with the crafting tools.

Return to Fergus and speak with him, then talk to Yoana to finish the quest.

Components for an Armorer and Wild at Heart

Components for an Armorer

Find the archgriffin by going north of the Wolven Glade marker. Turn on your Witcher Senses and follow the trail of blood until you reach the beast. Kill it to get the ingredients you need - the beast is vulnerable to Grapeshot, Hybrid Oil and Aard.

Cut the head off, and then take it to the Baron's quartermaster on the other side from Fergus.

Give the acid to Yoana, then be ready to test it once finished. Be brave, survive the test, then come back in a day to get your fresh set of armour from her.

Wild at Heart

Travel to Blackbough and talk to Niellen, then to Glenna and then the blacksmith. When you're done, head for the woods and use your Witcher Senses to locate a pack of wolves. Kill them, then talk to Hannah's sister. You can either end the quest here, or carry on looking.

Use your Witcher Senses to examine the claw marks on the ground, as well as the dead dog - Hannah's corpse is nearby. If you look more or less dead-centre of the circle on your minimap, there are more claw marks on the ground and then up a tree. Behind the tree is a tuft of fur.

Use your Witcher Senses to follow the scent trail, eventually finding some torn clothes that are close to a shack (watch out for the bear nearby!) Enter the shack and locate the Mysterious Notes, then head back outside and go to the rear of the building to find a hidden door underneath it.

Destroy the door with an Aard sign - or your sword - and then wait for nightfall (meditate until 8PM). When the time is right, fight the werewolf and his pack of wolves. Take out the wolves first, then deal with the werewolf: his health regenerates quite quickly when it gets low, so don't let up your frenzied attacks.

Witcher 3 All Velen and Novigrad Places of Power Locations Guide

Complete Guide on how to find the six Velen Places of Power (No Man’s Land) and two Places of Power in Novigrad in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt!

This guide is up-to-date for The Witcher 3 Next-Gen version ( Update 4.04 )

Finding the Places of Power in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is essential for your character progression. Each one of them gives you +1 Skill Point when you discover them and using them grants you increased Sign Intensity for 30 minutes (this buff can be repeatedly activated).

There are six Places of Power in Velen (No Man’s Land) and two in the Novigrad area . Below I have maps and directions to each one of them. If you are having trouble finding them, use the video walkthrough for extra navigation and instructions.

I suggest you complete at least the main quests in the areas before you go on hunting the Places of Power. This will grant you two significant advantages – you will have unlocked more signposts that will allow you to travel faster and you will be high enough level to defeat any enemies that may spawn near the Magic Stones.

Places of Power Locations in Velen

Here are all six locations of Places of Power in Velen, the No Man’s Land in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt.

North of Lornruk

I’ll start from the most north-western edge of Velen and go anti-clockwise. If you follow my steps, you can do this all in 15 to 20 minutes. The starting point is the Lornruk signpost.

From Lornruk, head towards the fort and jump down from the bridge. With the Next-Gen Update, CD PROJEKT RED made Geralt able to survive bigger jumps and falls and this one will not be an issue at all.

Alternatively, you can also go east from the road and the signpost. Find the slope and follow it downhill. The Place of Power is on the water level below the fort. It grants you increased Quen Sign intensity.

In the Cave from Wandering in the Dark

The next Place of Power is inside that cave, where you did the Quest with Keira .

You can go back to this Place of Power at any time, even after you have completed the quest. Head straight into the cave from the exit point near the lake, where you finished Wanderings in the Dark with Keira. Enter the room where the Magic Lamp is/was (side quest with Keira). This is the room with the altar. If you need help, here is a guide on how to solve the Magic Lamp Quest Statues Riddle .

Turn left and climb up. In ~20m the Place of Power will be in front of you. Using this one will grant you increased Yrden Sign Intensity. There is a Golem (Elemental) in the room after the Place of Power. I suggest you take it down, the look around it is worth it.

South of Frischlow

The next stop is Frischlow. The Place of Power is just south from the sign post. If you have not been in this area before, the closest Fast Travel you might have would be either Fyke Isle directly to the north or Byways, northwest from the Place of Power.

There is a Treasure just north of the Place of Power, it’s guarded by a level 19 Gargoyle, but you can easily bypass it. Meditating at the Place of Power will grant you increased Aard Sign Intensity. The area is unguarded. Easy to get your +1 Ability Point.

Bald Mountain

This Place of Power is only accessible during or after the main quest “Bald Mountain”.

Start off from the Road to Bald Mountain signpost and head up the stairs leading to the cave above the village. There may be a few level 26 Foglets you might have to defeat on your way to the cave.

You can always run through them too. They only appear if you visit the place outside of the “Bald Mountain” quest’s narrative.

The cave is locked and the only way to get the key for it is during the main quest in this area that I mentioned earlier.

Enter the cave and always keep to the right and after a short climb, you will see the exit. There you will also find Stregomir and a few other NPCs. If you make a wrong turn in the cave, you may end up elsewhere.

The Magic Stone is nearby – just a little to the north-northeast. on the edge of a cliff. This one increases your Quen Sign Intensity.

West of the Ancient Oak

The next Place of Power is hidden in the woods west of the Ancient Oak signpost.

It’s easy to find, but make sure you approach it from the west as the northern and eastern sides are surrounded by high cliffs and you will have to go around anyway.

If you don’t have the Ancient Oak Fast travel, a good way to get to this Place of Power is from the northwest, coming from the swamps.

From the Ancient Oak Fast Travel post travel directly west and slide down to the area where the Place of Power Is. Don’t go in the cave, it’s not inside. There is an unrelated cool side quest there, though. You should have heard its humming already.

There might be a few insectoids around, level 9 to 11. Using this stone will grant you increased Igni Sign Intensity.

Between Dragonjslayer’s Grotto and Downwarren

The final sixth Place of Power in Velen is located on top of a rocky hill, right in the middle between the Dragonslayer’s Grotto and Downwarren signposts. Find the path leading up and climb. Beware, there’s a gap near the top where you will have to jump.

Using it will grant you increased Yrden Sign Intensity. This location is right next to the cave where you find the armor diagrams from the basic Griffin School witcher gear set.

Places of Power Locations in Novigrad

There are two Places of Power in the Novigrad area. One is in the northern part of the city, while the other is actually southeast of Novigrad.

East of Novigrad

The first one we will visit is not actually in Novigrad, You will find it east of the city and north of the Vegelbud Residence. The closest Fast Travels, if you have unlocked them, are Alness to the northwest and Wheat Fields west of the Place of Power.

At the crossroads, on top of a small hill, you will find the Place of Power. Using this will increase your Axii Sign intensity. The best and easiest way to reach the Place of Power is from the northeast side of the small hill it’s sitting on.

Northern Novigrad

And the final Place of Power in this journey is in the northernmost part of Novigrad. Past St. Gregory’s Bridge and the Elector’s Square signpost.

If you have not been to this area before, you will not see the signposts, of course. Just get to the bridge, cross it and follow the instructions below.

From Elector’s Square sign, take the left path.

Follow this path north. When you reach the wooden gate in the stone wall, get off Roach and walk past the door.

Past the gate, you will arrive at the Temple of Eternal Fire. Turn left and run to the northern cliff, as shown in the image below. On the very edge, you will find an Igni Place of Power.

The Witcher 3: The 24 Most Important Choices You’ll Have To Make In The Game

The witcher 3: where to get mandrake cordial, artist designs more pokemon in how to train your dragon art style, quick links, how to get the forgotten wolf school gear diagrams in the witcher 3, how to craft the forgotten wolf school set, netflix's forgotten wolven console commands.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was originally released with seven gear sets for each of the seven different animal-based schools. Following the success of the Netflix adaptation series, however, an eighth set called Forgotten Wolf School Gear was added as part of the coveted next-generation update . The new addition is inspired by the same set of armor and swords used by Henry Cavill (Geralt) in the first two seasons of the live-action series and offers some impressive stats and bonuses for you to boast about while finding Ciri in The Witcher 3 .

The Forgotten Wolven armor is a medium-type set that increases your attack power, adrenaline generation, and resistance to damage. The Forgotten Wolven steel and silver swords, on the other hand, increase your critical damage and critical hit chance, the chance to cause bleeding, and sign intensity.

It is easily one of the best gear sets to get in The Witcher 3 . Here is what you need to do to look as good as Henry Cavill in the game.

The Witcher 3 is full of incredibly important choices that impact the game's world. Here are a few of the most vital.

The Forgotten Wolven diagrams can be obtained as a reward for completing a secondary quest called In the Eternal Fire's Shadow , which was added to The Witcher 3 as part of the next-gen update. Hence, returning players will need to update their game to the latest version if they want to get hold of the gear Henry Cavill wears in the Netflix series.

Complete the Eternal Fire's Shadow quest

"In the Eternal Fire's Shadow" is a level 15 quest that can be started at the Devil's Pit , southeast of the Hanged Man's Tree in Velen. Head over there to come across an Eternal Fire Priest in need of help. Speak with him to start the Netflix armor quest.

The Hanged Man's Tree is where you first enter Velen. It automatically gets unlocked as a fast-travel point in The Witcher 3 , so you do not have to fret about excessive traveling if the Devil's Pit has not been discovered on the map.

The quest requires you to clear the abandoned mine system at the Devil's Pit. Start by defeating a group of deserters inside the pit to loot the key that opens the mine. Then enter and explore the mine. You can use your Witcher Senses to discover the Wolf School symbols, and your magic lamp to get additional insight into what happened here.

You will eventually find Reinard, an old Witcher. Defeat his possessed form to force the Red Miasmal to reveal itself. Defeat the creature as well, and Reinald will give you the Forgotten Wolf School Gear in The Witcher 3 .

"In the Eternal Fire's Shadow" has multiple outcomes similar to other quests in The Witcher 3 . Reinald will give you the Forgotten Wolven diagrams regardless of what you choose at the end of the quest.

Find Osmund's Notes

The Forgotten Wolven diagrams Reinald gives you in the mines are for the basic (starting) level in The Witcher 3 . You need to head over to Kaer Morhen to find Osmund's notes to be able to upgrade the Netflix-inspired armor set to the mastercrafted and grandmaster levels.

Completing the "In the Eternal Fire's Shadow" quest will start a Scavenger Hunt for the Forgotten School Gear diagrams. When you reach the Kaer Morhen keep , enter and head left to find some bookshelves. Climb the nearby ladder to reach the second level. You will find both Osmund's and Vesemir's notes here at the end of the platform. Read them to unlock the entire Forgotten Wolven set in The Witcher 3 .

If you are unable to return to Kaer Morhen, it is probably because you have not completed the Ugly Baby quest in The Witcher 3 .

Mandrake Cordials can only be found in limited quantities. Here's how to get them in lots and at cheap prices in The Witcher 3.

The Netflix-inspired Forgotten Wolf School set has three tiers in the first playthrough of The Witcher 3 . Beating the game in a New Game Plus playthrough lets you upgrade the Forgotten Wolven set by another three tiers. Be ready to invest a lot of hours into crafting the complete set because it requires a ton of gold and crafting materials across all tiers.

You can easily find journeyman blacksmiths in almost every town and village. The master and grandmaster blacksmiths, however, need to be unlocked through the Of Swords and Dumplings quest in The Witcher 3 .

You can also obtain the Forgotten Wolf School Gear by using console commands in The Witcher 3 . You will be cheating your way through the game, but it is still something useful to know in case the Forgotten Wolven quest bugs out.

For the standard armor set (based on season 1):

  • additem("netflix armor")
  • additem("netflix boots")
  • additem("netflix gloves")
  • additem("netflix pants")
  • additem("netlix silver sword")
  • additem("netlix steel sword")

For the grandmaster armor set (based on season 2):

  • additem("netflix armor 2")
  • additem("netflix boots 2")
  • additem("netflix gloves 2")
  • additem("netflix pants 2")
  • additem("netlix silver sword 2")
  • additem("netlix steel sword 2")

The Witcher 3: How To Get Each Ending For The Baron

Quick links, bloody baron quest overview, the baron takes anna to the blue mountains, the baron dies.

One of the most compelling characters throughout The Witcher 3 's lengthy story is Phillip Strenger, better known as The Bloody Baron. Geralt meets this less-than-savory character when the witcher is directed to Crow's Perch in Velen during his initial search for Ciri.

The Witcher 3: In Wolf's Clothing Side Quest Walkthrough

Despite being a morally questionable individual, it's hard not to get wrapped up in The Baron's arc and the fractious relationship he shares with his now absentee wife and daughter. Geralt helps The Baron track down his estranged family members in the "Family Matters" quest. However, completing this singular quest won't bring about an end to the family's tragic story. To see the tale through to completion, you must also complete the "Return to Crookback Bog" quest, and keep in mind that the choices you make earlier in the game affect The Baron during the quest.

Updated January 23, 2024, by Sean Murray: It's hard to consider The Bloody Baron's best ending with how tragic they can be, but this guide will at least let you make the decision that seems right to you. We've also updated this guide with improved formatting and more links to other helpful Witcher 3 topics.

Following 'The Nilfgaardian Connection' , 'The Bloody Baron' takes Geralt's actions therein closely into account. You'll start at Crow's Perch , after all, and the folk here are going to be more than a bit shy if you elected to slay the Baron's men in that prior engagement.

If you stayed your hand, this deceptively-critical main quest is practically over before it begins, its later ramifications nearly entirely obscured at the moment. The guards make way for Geralt's entry, and the quest resolves after you've taken our witcher to see Philip.

Alternatively, should the guards respond with hostility, you'll have to head back into the scuffle and locate a middle-aged man wearing green-and-yellow attire, perched upon a makeshift wooden seat of sorts. The bulk of this interaction is pure dialogue, but he will ask for 15 crowns as a donation .

There's a pragmatic point of view for this versus a scholarly one: you save 15 crowns by declining the donation, but you learn more about the situation by accepting.

The choice is yours, but know that by offering up the coin , the old man will inform Geralt of the exact location of a shrine . This can be accomplished without the fellow's aid, but you'll also lack precise coordinates. Regardless, the cave leads to a well (and a water hag!); thereafter, you'll meet with the baron, thus bringing things back around, albeit more slowly, to where the nonviolent route would have taken you.

The remainder of this guide takes the unconventional approach of skipping ahead quite a way into The Witcher 3 to explain the endings for something you will, as of the completion of 'The Bloody Baron' itself, only have some knowledge regarding.

The Witcher 3: How To Romance Yennefer

The Bloody Baron's story is filled with shades of gray as there are no heroes or villains. Thus, there's no true 'best' or even good ending , but from the Baron's perspective, this is the best ending he could've hoped for .

Achieving this ending depends on your decision made during "The Whispering Hillock" quest when Geralt had to choose between freeing the ghost in the tree or killing it . It's among the hardest decisions in The Witcher 3 , but you'll trigger this 'Blue Mountains' conclusion by going for the kill option.

It's also possible to achieve this ending and still free the spirit . To do so, you'll need to manually trigger and complete "The Whispering Hillock" quest before it is introduced through the main questline. Initiating it means heading to the Ancient Oak, which is southeast of where Anna and the Orphans live. Once there, head into the cave that runs under the tree to find the spirit.

Despite Geralt's preemptive actions, tackling "The Whispering Hillock" before he is contracted to do so doesn't change the Baron's or Anna's fate in this ending. But, as freeing or killing the spirit is traditionally the deciding factor between The Baron's possible outcomes, it's nice to know there's a loophole if your rendition of Geralt has a soft spot for demonic spirits .

Later, during "Return to Crookback Bog," Geralt accompanies The Baron to retrieve Anna from the evil Crones . When the company arrives, they find her in a crazed state due to Geralt's actions during "The Whispering Hillock." The Baron, however, remains confident he can save his wife by taking her to a hermit in the Blue Mountains. After Tamara reluctantly agrees to let them go, The Baron takes Anna away.

By returning to the now Baron-less Crow's Perch , you can see how ruthless The Baron's henchmen have gotten without his leadership. The place is still arguably one of the best areas in war-torn Velen, though.

Given that both the Baron and Anna survive, this is generally considered the best ending for the Baron's storyline , though it depends on how you look at it. Some may consider sacrificing the orphans and Anna's mental health too high of a price.

The Witcher 3: How To Get The Best Ending

For the Baron to perish after the events of "Return to Crookback Bog," all Geralt needs to do is release the spirit in the tree during "The Whispering Hillock." While this decision guarantees The Baron's demise , Geralt will affect exactly how it all plays out.

If Geralt freed the spirit, Anna will have taken the form of a water hag once Geralt revisits her in "Return to Crookback Bog." The friendly godling named Johnny reveals it was unsurprisingly the Crones' who cursed her. So, it's up to Geralt to change her back.

Lifting The Curse

To lift the curse, you have to grab the doll that the Crones created for Anna . There are four dolls to choose from:

  • A doll with a red bead .
  • A doll with a bird feather .
  • A doll with a human ear .
  • A doll with a violet hollyhock bloom .

The correct doll is the one with a violet hollyhock bloom , as The Baron had mentioned previously it is Anna's favorite flower.

Picking The Right Doll

By choosing the correct doll, Anna is turned back into a human being . Unfortunately, the curse is tied to her life, meaning even though the spell is broken, she still dies. However, Anna gets some time to say goodbye to both The Baron and her daughter.

Picking The Wrong Doll

If you select any of the other three dolls, Anna immediately bursts into flames . As a result, her final moments are spent in agony while her family watches on in horror. Furthermore, The Baron never gets to apologize for the terrible things he's done. It's one of the most tragic outcomes of any character in The Witcher 3 .

The Aftermath

Regardless of how Anna dies, Geralt must return to Crow's Perch to collect his payment . Once there, He'll find The Baron in the middle of the courtyard swinging from a tree . It turns out a mixture of regret, grief, and inebriation caused him to kill himself. Few scenes in The Witcher 3 are more heart-breaking , especially as his people don't seem to care at all.

While this ending is undeniably tragic, some may consider it honorable to protect the orphans in accordance with Anna's wishes, and by selecting the right doll, granting her a bittersweet ending with her loved ones. All in all, none of the possible outcomes are going to sit well all around, so it is up to you and your moral compass to dictate the Bloody Baron's best ending in The Witcher 3.

The Ultimate Guide on What to Do Before The Witcher 3‘s New Game Plus

' data-src=

Embarking on that second epic playthrough in New Game Plus (NG+) allows you to fully enjoy The Witcher 3‘s stellar content using your maxed out, god-like Geralt. However, failing to prepare properly can leave you losing valuable progress or missing key items that don‘t carry over. After 100+ hours of playing time and thorough research, I‘ve compiled the ultimate guide on optimizing your experience before plunging into NG+.

Dismantle Monster Mutagens – It‘s Now or Never

While ability points, recipes, swords, armors, and your lovely stash carry into the next game, monster mutagens unfortunately do not. Transform any unused Ekimmaras, Ekhidnas, or other monster mutagens into their basic forms at an alchemy lab before starting NG+ so as not lose them permanently.

Having a healthy stock of these mutagens will allow you to continue upgrading abilities on your NG+ run. Monster mutagens provide higher percentage bonuses but ultimately aren‘t worth losing since the basic types stack up quickly.

Pawn Off Quest Items Before It‘s Too Late

Many obscure quest items sit idly around in inventories until a fateful moment when the "Failed Quest" message appears. Don‘t let precious crowns slip away by accidentally keeping quest items that will disappear when starting NG+.

I combed through every quest-related item and compiled a reference table indicating whether or not they carry over:

As you can see, something as mundane as cherry cordial from a random encounter isn‘t safe either. So thoroughly go through things like books, letters, notes, etc and sell what you don‘t need. That dowry box with no apparent function? 500 easy crowns. It pays to be diligent.

Craft Your Grandmaster Gear Before It‘s Too Late

Introduced in the Blood and Wine expansion, grandmaster marks the pinnacle of witcher gear. Requiring higher level and rare components, the stat bonuses, rune slots, and set effects put them head and shoulders above the rest:

As the table shows, the grandmaster gear stands far above the rest in terms of damage and protection. The diagrams for crafting them do not carry over into NG+ so you must craft them before starting the next playthrough. I‘d recommend completing the quest "Turn and Face the Strange" at level 70+ to unlock the grandmaster quests.

Tick Off Secondary Quests Now or Forever Hold Your Peace

While the sprawling main story quest will remain intact when venturing into NG+, hundreds of side quests both major and minor reset as if you‘d never began them. Before losing progress, ensure you‘ve completed any secondary storylines of importance:

  • Knight for Hire – Unlocks ability to dye witcher gear
  • From a Land Far Far Away – Reward is above average silver sword diagram
  • Big Game Hunter – Provides unique crossbow upgrade

These were just a few of my favorites that provide unique rewards not found anywhere else. Don‘t forget about treasure hunt quests as well! Looting grandmaster gear diagrams, high-end swords, and powerful glyphs are a priority before starting over.

Gwent Away – Ensuring You Have Every Card

One of the most depressingly-addicting mini-games ever created, Gwent should be mastered by every Witcher player. Your deck however is one of the few things that doesn‘t carry from the main game into NG+. Thus you must purchase every attainable card from vendors before picking the deck back up.

Here‘s a breakdown of the number of collectible Gwent cards across all factions:

That‘s right, 157 total cards to buy, win, or otherwise find through our journeys in the Continent. I myself used a detailed Gwent collection and victory checklist to ensure buying every card across Velen, Novigrad, Skellige, and Toussaint before my NG+ run. Leave no merchant unturned in searching for even the most common of cards before plunging into another playthrough.

Hoard Crafting Materials, Master Crafter

Witcher gear constantly needs improving, glyphs need crafting, potions always a refilling – you get the picture. All crafting diagrams and alchemy recipes carry over from your first game, so why waste surplus crowns when they could be invested in rare materials?

Here are the crafting components I‘d recommend buying up or keeping to haul into New Game Plus:

Having at least 50-100 of goods like these will give you reserves to immediately begin enhancing new witcher sets or making grandmaster equipment without grinding for rare components. Even basic leathers, ingots, or gemstones are wise investments before kicking off another lengthy adventure.

Stash Away Your Potions, Oils, & Equipment

The inevitable question – "What gear and items can I bring with me before starting NG+?". Thankfully, your stash remains completely intact when beginning another playthrough. Here are the most essential things I‘d recommend keeping:

  • Decoctions – Powerful combat elixirs don‘t need to be re-crafted
  • oils – Unless you fancy refinding rare monster ingredients
  • Bombs – Reloading rarely-used Northern Wind or Dancing Star is helpful
  • Mutagens -转换分型后成你研发原料
  • Rare weaponry – Bring over special crossbows or gear for breaking down
  • Trophy equipment – Key quest reward items worth keeping

Storage becomes scarce quickly on NG+, so I utilized my stash arrangements carefully. Gear higher than your current level can still be sold to vendors or broken down for precious components. Any meteorite silver/dark steel weaponry or armor suits you won‘t be donning for a while are still worth keeping over common replacements found in early areas like White Orchard on your next journey.

The tips provided herein should help optimize your New Game Plus preparation through learned expertise and diligent research. Take advantage of the unique carryover mechanics before embarking on your next adventure! Let me know any other tips in the comments.
