This new benefit, powered by Expedia, gives Walmart+ members the exclusive ability to get Walmart Cash by booking epic vacations
There’s still time to pack your bags – Walmart is taking its valued Walmart+ members on a new, more rewarding journey before the summer travel season becomes this fall’s show-and-tell. Beginning today, Walmart+ members can book getaways through WalmartPlusTravel.com and get Walmart Cash. Walmart+ members will receive 5% Walmart Cash on hotels, vacation rentals, car rentals and activities bookings, 2% Walmart Cash on all flights and a blended rate of Walmart Cash on vacation packages 1 .
Travel booking on WalmartPlusTravel.com is powered by Expedia Group’s White Label Template technology, giving Walmart+ members access to more than 900,000 properties, 500+ airlines, 100+ car rental companies and thousands of activities around the world. This new offering will make shopping for travel a win-win for Walmart+ members as they begin getting Walmart Cash, previously Walmart Rewards , on all aspects of their vacation getaways.
“We’re bringing together the ultimate savings membership and vacation booking site to deliver a first-ever travel-focused benefit for Walmart+ members,” said Venessa Yates, senior vice president and general manager of Walmart+. “Combined with our other benefits – including free delivery, streaming and savings on fuel – we’re creating a membership that saves customers time and money, whether they’re at home or having fun at their favorite vacation destination.”
Here’s how it works:
- Easy to find: Walmart+ members will access travel through their member benefits hub in the app or WalmartPlusTravel.com.
- Easy to book: Members can choose travel options like flights, hotels, vacation rentals, car rentals, packages and activities.
- Easy to earn : After the booking is confirmed, any Walmart Cash received will appear in the member’s Walmart wallet. Walmart Cash will become available 30 days after travel is completed and can be used on future Walmart purchases or cashed out in store.
“We’re delighted to launch this collaboration with Walmart, America’s largest retailer, making planning, shopping and booking travel a new and seamless part of Walmart’s shopping experience. Together, we’re connecting Walmart’s massive customer base with Expedia Group’s extensive array of travel supply partners from all around the world,” said Ariane Gorin, president of Expedia for Business. “What’s exciting is that with this collaboration, Walmart customers will benefit from Expedia’s ongoing innovation through TravelOS, our A.I.-powered travel operating system, as we continue to add new product and feature updates to drive the best traveler experience.” Walmart+ members will also have access to Expedia Group’s top tier, end-to-end customer service, handling all their travel needs from start to finish. Whether via live agents or by leveraging the company’s self-serve capabilities, like their A.I.-powered Virtual Agent tool, Expedia Group’s services allow members to ask questions about their trip or make changes with ease.
Walmart+ is consistently evolving to deliver what’s most important for members, most recently with the evolution of Walmart Rewards to Walmart Cash, the same great program, under a new name and with the added ability to cash-out in store. Over time, some of the components of Walmart Cash will expand to all customers, while additional ways to get Walmart Cash will remain exclusive to members, like Walmart+ Travel.

Walmart+ launches new travel benefit, offering up to 5% Walmart Cash on your trip purchases
For anyone looking for a savings opportunity while traveling, the nation's largest retailer has just launched a new booking platform for its members that can help with just that.
Walmart+ Travel (powered by Expedia) is now live, allowing members to book flights, rental cars, hotels, vacation rentals, activities and more. But the best part? You can get up to 5% Walmart Cash on these purchases.
This new benefit adds to an already lucrative lineup of benefits for Walmart+ members.
Here's everything you need to know about this new offering.
Overview of Walmart+ Travel
As noted previously, Walmart+ Travel is powered by Expedia, and it's available through your Walmart+ account and at WalmartPlusTravel.com. It's a great way to get extra benefits on virtually all aspects of a trip. When you book directly with Walmart+ Travel, you'll receive Walmart Cash on your travel purchases at the following rate:
- 5% Walmart Cash on hotel bookings, vacation rentals, rental cars and activities.
- 2% Walmart Cash on air travel.
If you book a vacation package that includes two (or more) of these items, you'll earn Walmart Cash at a blended rate (e.g., 2% on the air travel part of the purchase and 5% on the other parts).
Your Walmart Cash will appear as "pending" in your Walmart+ account before becoming available within 30 days of the completion of your trip. You have the option of using it for future Walmart purchases or receiving it as cash back in your pocket.
Walmart+ Travel is available now for existing Walmart+ members as well as new ones. You'll even have access to it if you sign up for a free 30-day trial of the program — allowing you to test it (and the many other benefits of Walmart+) before committing to a full membership.
How to use Walmart+ Travel
To access Walmart+ Travel, simply visit walmartplus.com and sign in to your account. You'll find the Walmart+ Travel tile in your member hub. Simply click "Book a Trip," which will take you to the Walmart+ Travel site, which is powered by Expedia.
From there, search for your desired travel arrangements — including flights, rental cars, hotels, vacation rentals and packages. You'll clearly see the amount of Walmart Cash you'd get for each type of booking.
Select the reservation(s) you want, then follow the on-screen instructions to finalize the booking.
Once you receive the confirmation, you'll see your Walmart Cash listed as "pending" in your Walmart+ account within 48 hours.
Thirty days after the completion of your booking, your Walmart Cash will change to "redeemable" and can be applied to future Walmart purchases — or received directly as cash back.
Remember that airline tickets purchased through a third-party platform like Walmart+ Travel are typically treated like normal revenue tickets and thus are eligible to earn points or miles. You should also enjoy any elite status perks you have with the given airline — though this often isn't the case with major hotel and rental car programs.
Using Walmart+ Travel with other member benefits
Of course, Walmart+ Travel is just the newest benefit for members, and it adds even more value for those taking to the skies (or hitting the roads) this summer.
For example, Walmart+ members enjoy free shipping with no order minimum (excluding most Marketplace items and certain location and freight charges). This allows you to stock up on travel essentials ahead of a trip you book with Walmart+ Travel — and you can even use any available Walmart Cash for these purchases.
For example, for those without a Walmart+ membership, these packing cubes would require a trip to your local Walmart for in-store pickup or cost $6.99 to ship.
However, Walmart+ members could have these shipped directly to their home address — and most items will arrive within one to two days.
If a road trip is in your future, you can also leverage Walmart+ fuel savings at more than 14,000 stations nationwide. This can give you 10 cents off every gallon of gas at participating locations (5 cents in Alabama and Oklahoma; subject to change).
Finally, when you arrive at your destination and settle into your hotel or vacation rental, you can launch your included Paramount+ streaming subscription (Essential plan only; separate registration required).
How to join Walmart+
If you're not currently a Walmart+ member, you can become a member by visiting the Walmart+ website and clicking the link at the top to start your free 30-day trial.
Remember that holders of The Platinum Card® from American Express can receive a statement credit each month when they charge the monthly cost of a Walmart+ membership ($12.95 plus applicable taxes) to their card (enrollment required; Plus Ups not eligible).
As soon as your account is activated, you'll be able to start receiving Walmart Cash for bookings through Walmart+ Travel — and access the various other benefits of membership.

If you're not a member, join today — and then begin receiving Walmart Cash on your next trip.

There’s a new option for booking travel that could help you save some money on everyday expenses, and it’s from a spot you might not have expected: Walmart.
The retail giant has launched a travel portal in partnership with Expedia.
Those who subscribe to Walmart+ can book activities, flights, hotels, rental cars, vacation rentals and travel packages. In return, they’ll earn Walmart Cash that can be used when shopping with the store.
Though it may not be the first choice for avid travelers who want to take advantage of travel loyalty programs, the portal is a way for your travels to help you offset expenses in your daily life; usually, this is done by using strategic everyday credit card spending to help you earn travel rewards.
This new travel portal is also a way travelers carrying The Platinum Card® from American Express can get more value out of their card and its $695 annual fee: Cardmembers can receive a statement credit to cover the Walmart+ membership fee. Terms apply.

How do you use the Walmart travel portal?
Walmart+ members can access the company’s new travel portal at WalmartPlusTravel.com. It’s also available through the member benefits section of the Walmart+ app.
You can use the site to book numerous aspects of your trip. Because the site is powered by Expedia, you’ll be able to access the online travel agency’s vast network of hotels and vacation rentals. The site has access to more than 900,000 properties (including hotels, homes, apartments, etc.), as well as more than 500 airlines globally and more than 100 rental car companies.
You can also book activities using the Walmart travel portal.

Earning Walmart Cash for travel
A key benefit for Walmart+ members booking a trip through WalmartPlusTravel.com is the ability to earn Walmart Cash.
Members will earn:
5% Walmart Cash on hotels, vacation rentals, car rentals and activities.
2% Walmart Cash on flights.
If you’re booking a vacation package, you’ll receive a blended Walmart Cash rate: 2% for the flight portion of your trip, 5% for the accommodations element.
Once you confirm a booking, any Walmart Cash you earn will appear in your wallet. It will become available 30 days after you complete travel. You can apply it to future purchases or cash out in the store.
Using WalmartPlusTravel.com
To start using WalmartPlusTravel.com , head to the homepage and sign in using your Walmart+ credentials.
Let’s say you're hoping to take a family of four from Washington, D.C., to Rome in September 2023. Start by plugging in desired flights, like you would on any booking site.
Because it’s an online travel agency, the results turn up options on numerous airlines. You can see itinerary options aboard Delta Air Lines and Air France, among others.
Each itinerary option also shows how much you'd earn in Walmart Cash (again, 2% for flights). The cheapest option, $946, comes to $3,784 for a family of four and would earn $75.64 in Walmart Cash.
The site also points out times in which you might be able to save money by booking a vacation package, instead of choosing your trip elements a la carte.
Now that your flights to Rome are set, you need a place to stay when you get there.
Through the Walmart travel portal, you can put in “Rome” or even a landmark in your search terms. For example, let’s say you want to stay as close to the Pantheon as possible. Simply plug that landmark in and search.
In the search results, there's a rental property option with a loft that sleeps six people and is just steps away from the Pantheon. This property would set you back $447 per night, which means a total of $2,690 for your five-night stay (including taxes and fees). In this case, you would earn 5% Walmart Cash on the property rental — a total of $134.51 for the stay.
That means for just the stay and flights, you’d have $210.15 to spend (or cash out) at Walmart after arriving home.
Is Walmart travel good?
The best part about WalmartTravelPlus.com is the ability to earn money you can apply to your purchases at the store. That means earning cash back is simple and directly applicable to your everyday shopping. Plus, you could maximize your cash back by charging your booking to a travel credit card that earns points or a cash-back credit card that will accelerate your cash-back amount.
As always with online travel agencies , note that flight changes can be difficult, as is earning hotel points or using elite status benefits. However, it could provide a particularly handy return on investment when booking a rental property that’s not part of a major hotel loyalty program.

"We're bringing together the ultimate savings membership and vacation booking site to deliver a first-ever travel-focused benefit for Walmart+ members," said Venessa Yates, senior vice president and general manager of Walmart+. "Combined with our other benefits — including free delivery, streaming and savings on fuel — we’re creating a membership that saves customers time and money, whether they’re at home or having fun at their favorite vacation destination."
Here’s how it works:
Easy to find: Walmart+ members will access travel through their member benefits hub in the app or WalmartPlusTravel.com.
Easy to book: Members can choose travel options like flights, hotels, vacation rentals, car rentals, packages and activities.
Easy to earn : After the booking is confirmed, any Walmart Cash received will appear in the member’s Walmart wallet. Walmart Cash will become available 30 days after travel is completed and can be used on future Walmart purchases or cashed out in store.
"We’re delighted to launch this collaboration with Walmart, America’s largest retailer, making planning, shopping and booking travel a new and seamless part of Walmart’s shopping experience. Together, we’re connecting Walmart’s massive customer base with Expedia Group’s extensive array of travel supply partners from all around the world," said Ariane Gorin, president of Expedia for Business. "What's exciting is that with this collaboration, Walmart customers will benefit from Expedia's ongoing innovation through TravelOS, our A.I.-powered travel operating system, as we continue to add new product and feature updates to drive the best traveler experience."
Walmart+ members will also have access to Expedia Group’s top tier, end-to-end customer service, handling all their travel needs from start to finish.
For more information about how to become a Walmart+ member, please visit walmart.com/plus .
1 - For example, if the package consisted of a hotel + flight, the Walmart Cash received would be 5% Walmart Cash on the hotel element and 2% Walmart Cash on the flight element.

Walmart Plus members earn 5% Walmart cash on hotels, vacation rentals, car rentals, and more when booking via Walmart's new travel hub (which is powered by Expedia). This is in addition to other perks like free access to Paramount Plus .
It's unclear what other perks Walmart Plus will offer in the near future. However, it's no secret that Walmart and Amazon price match each other all the time, especially on retail holidays like Black Friday. The renewed rivalry could make for excellent deals.

Walmart Plus vs. Amazon Prime
During Amazon's Q1 2021 earnings call, the company revealed there are over 200 million paid Prime members worldwide. That's a number that Walmart Plus is certainly hoping to reach.
Once the country's top retailer, Walmart has watched as its rival Amazon has dominated online sales. Amazon now accounts for roughly 38% of all online retail sales in the U.S., according to eMarketer . By comparison, Walmart is a distant second place with just over 5% of the U.S. e-commerce market. The hope is that Walmart Plus will help it take some of that market share from Amazon.
This isn't the first time Walmart has taken on Amazon Prime . In 2015, Walmart launched ShippingPass , an unlimited online shipping service that cost $50 per year and promised deliveries in three days or less. This was Walmart's attempt to undercut Amazon Prime, which at the time cost $99 per year. Two years later, Walmart dropped its membership fee and switched to a 2-day free shipping program on orders of $35 or more.
However, Walmart's biggest chest thump came in 2016, when it purchased Jet.com for $3 billion . The hope was that Jet.com would help Walmart establish a bigger online presence. (Walmart announced last month that it was permanently closing Jet.com).
The Walmart vs. Amazon feud continued into 2019. Just as Amazon announced its plans to offer 1-day shipping, Walmart followed suit with its own 1-day shipping pilot . Most recently, Walmart announced 2-hour Express delivery for an additional $10 over Walmart's typical delivery fees.
Even on big retailer days like Black Friday, Walmart has shadowed Amazon with similar sales of its own. Walmart Plus is an extension of this ongoing battle and only time will tell if it's the true knockout punch that it needs to take on Amazon and its legion of subscribers.

- mejustsayin It's been just over a month since it was introduced. Anyone here using Walmart Plus? I did a 30 day free trial but forgot to cancel. Got my dates wrong so now I am stuck with it for a year. Oh well, at least gas is cheaper, though I have to drive to another town and can get out of the store a bit faster. Maybe they will add more features making it worth it. Reply
- dikil Walmart recently made all soft drinks unavailable for grocery delivery. You are still required to buy at least $35 worth of grocery, so this is a real bummer. Reply
- DickieD My experience with Walmart’s online ordering is that it has been slow and the inventory count isn’t accurate. Items sometimes remain in “processing” status well past the projected delivery date. Sometimes they cancel orders without explanation. One order I had was for four items. They cancelled the order and refunded me for one. Customer service told me to please wait 24 hour for the remainder of the refund. 24 hours past, no refund. Then an apology and an assurance of a refund in 48 hours. Didn’t happen. They refunded but only after multiple sessions with a CSR. Amazon is better at delivering goods and the few issues I’ve had over years were quickly made right. Competition is good and I hope Walmart improves. But as it is now I’m not likely to renew my + account. Reply

- Karen M70 I loved that Walmart+ was available during the beginning of Covid and tgat I didn’t have to go shopping with my 3yr old granddaughter. But , 7 months into my membership, I was ”banned” from online shopping w/Walmart. The reason they gave me was “returns violations”. Only problem is, I have NEVER returned anything to Walmart, seriously. As it turns out, when they deliver to the wrong address, bring your groceries hot (milk at 68 degrees), or just leave something out(which is frequent), you are violating their returns policy. (That is, if you ask for your money back). I spend hundreds of dollars a month there and I explained it to them, filed a complaint with BBB. They reinstated me after some unpleasant tweets. Yesterday, my ordered was missing 7 items ($32.49). I called and explained, asked for replacements (denied), and refunded. Today, I am banned again. No refund on membership fee, no talk, no email, no letter. Just can not EVER shop online with Walmart again. Think twice my friends, think twice. Reply
- Moose and Squirrel Wow. Don't buy this. I got walmart+, inhome service because there aren't any tips on deliveries so it looked incredibly cheap on paper. And employees in a van, not some guy putting groceries in their trunk. Worked great while I was on the trial. Right after that ended, they did a no-show two out of three grocery delivery days. First time, 9am-1 delivery window, nothing, no message, no call, nothing. The second miss was for the same time window, and I got a text at 5:30pm saying "we're late, but we're still on our way". When nobody was here by 9 PM , I called the store. No answer. Called the 800 line, they said they'd call the store and reschedule for the next day. Early next day email from customer service saying "The store said they could not reschedule". Call the inhome # at the local store, eventually get someone in the corporate office that tells me "They couldn't get a driver those days, and then you canceled the orders". Nope. I canceled nothing. Called to talk to the store manager. "They aren't in. We don't know when they'll be in. They set their own schedules. Try back after 10, maybe 11?" It was 9:30. They did refund my walmart+, but when I asked for a refund of the annual inhome fee, they offered a "pro-rated" $3 out of 40, for something I hadn't used for a month paid out of 12. It'd be terrific if they actually showed up or didn't oversubscribe the employees, or perhaps the employees just figured out that nobody was in charge of the chicken coop, and they could just not do anything all day without consequences or oversight? No idea. Either way, they aren't equipped to handle the service that they're selling. Just wanted them to do doorstep delivery too, nothing fancy like bringing it into the house. Reply
- robgroesbeck I started a trial of Walmart+ and was not able to locate any possible option to link my wife's Walmart online account with the Walmart+ subscription so that both of us can get the benefits from it. This is very easy to do with Amazon Prime. I tried to locate this in the Android app, online in the Android browser and with the Windows-based browser. I finally contacted customer support who informed me that this is impossible and that we would need to pay for two separate Walmart+ accounts in order for us both to use it. If this is truly the case, it's a fatal flaw in the product. If it's not the case, the ability to do so should be far simpler to locate and use and Walmart's customer support should be able to assist customers with it. Reply
- GloryBe Walmart has it all backwards as far as i am concerned! I am one of numerous Baby Boomers, on a fixed income, no car who needs unlimited delivery FROM THE STORE With NO MINIMUM! I could care less about free shipping with no minimum because i buy way much more from the store!! Besides, i would much rather get shipping from AMAZON as they are QUICKER, and better and faster on RETURNS!! they should at the minimum give us a choice even of choosing free shipping OR free deliveries from the store with no minimum amount spent. Plain and simple. They are going to lose a grip of us seniors thats for sure!! Reply

Wastrel said: ...On the other hand, I have had no problems with wrong orders, unreasonable delays or customer service after delivery. I had a recliner arrive with an arm that I could not attach because the arm did not have the hardware. I glued the arm on with Gorilla Glue, told them about it, and they refunded my money, so I have a free recliner.
