Chrysler Voyager

2001 minivans & 3-row suvs reliability, crash and rollover tests, chrysler vs. other new car brands, owner reports, 2001 minivans 3-row ratings.

  • 2.4-liter 4 (150 hp)
  • 3.3-liter V6 (180 hp)
  • 3-speed automatic
  • 4-speed automatic

In most cases, automotive warranties are based on the vehicle identification number (VIN), and the warranty will be valid regardless of ownership. The dealership can tell you exactly how much warranty is left.

The Voyager, and its twin the Dodge Caravan, was redesigned for 2001. Although engine power increased, acceleration remains lackluster and fuel economy unimpressive with the popular 3.3-liter, 180-hp V6. A harsh and unresponsive 2.4-liter, 150-hp four-cylinder, shared with the PT Cruiser, continues as the base engine. Powertrain shortcomings aside, the Voyager rides fairly comfortably, and its handling is secure. The third-row seat is a handy 50/50 split bench that's fairly easy to remove, though not as versatile as some competitors' fold-into-the-floor designs. An entry-level eC model joined the lineup for 2002. Optional power-adjustable pedals were also added.

Chrysler brought back the Voyager in 2020 to split its minivan offering as a lower-cost version of the Pacifica. The Voyager takes over for the L and LX trim levels, which account for about a third of Pacificas sold, thereby offering a more affordable entry into the minivan line. It uses the same 3.6-liter V6 engine as the Pacifica, matched with a nine-speed automatic transmission. That combination delivers good power in the Pacifica, where it returned 21 mpg overall. The Voyager does not offer key advanced safety systems, such as forward collision warning or automatic emergency braking. At least, blind spot warning is optional.

All Voyagers became Chryslers since the Plymouth brand was phased out. The Chrysler Voyager/Dodge Caravan twins are still competitive. They ride fairly quietly and handle reasonably well. A handy second, left-side sliding door is optional, but power operation isn't offered. The 3.3-liter, 158-hp V6 is the engine to choose. Other engine choices are a 2.4-liter four-cylinder and a 3.0-liter V6. The front seats provide decent support. The middle and rear seats are easy to unhitch for maximum cargo room. They're very heavy, but small wheels make them easier to move.

2002 Chrysler Voyager Review

2002 Chrysler Voyager 4dr Minivan

See Edmunds pricing data

Has Your Car's Value Changed?

Used car values are constantly changing. Edmunds lets you track your vehicle's value over time so you can decide when to sell or trade in.

Edmunds' Expert Review

  • Surprisingly agile handling, quiet ride (with V6), low price.
  • Some cheap interior bits, limited features and options, questionable reliability.

Chrysler brings out the Voyager eC, a value leader that lists for just $17,000. Power-adjustable pedals debut as well.

Edmunds says

Enjoyable to drive and ride in, the Voyager offers no-frills minivan transport for the family on a tight budget.

Cost to Drive Cost to drive estimates for the 2002 Chrysler Voyager eC 4dr Minivan (2.4L 4cyl 4A) and comparison vehicles are based on 15,000 miles per year (with a mix of 55% city and 45% highway driving) and energy estimates of $3.56 per gallon for regular unleaded in North Dakota.

Vehicle overview.

After Plymouth went the way of the stegosaurus, Chrysler adopted its Caravan clone, the Voyager. As with the Caravan, the Voyager rides on a 113.3-inch wheelbase, as opposed to the 6-inch-longer wheelbase of the Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country series.

Designed for families that can't afford a minivan with a price tag approaching $30K, the Voyager starts at around $17,000 and comes in three trim levels: eC, base and more luxurious LX.

A 150-horsepower 2.4-liter inline four hooked up to a primitive three-speed automatic propels the base model (a four-speed automatic is optional). The LX is fitted with a 180-horsepower 3.3-liter V6 coupled to a smooth-shifting four-speed automatic.

Making the base model a foolish choice (and causing us to question Chrysler's logic) is the new and cheaper eC model that comes only in Bright Silver paint with a taupe interior. Equipped with the 2.4-liter I4 and a four-speed automatic gearbox, the eC lists for $3,000 less than the base Voyager, yet has a better automatic tranny and the same equipment level. The downside of the eC is that you can't get a V6 engine or a different color, and the options list is very short.

Air conditioning and a stereo with cassette player are standard on the base Voyager and eC. LX models add antilock brakes; power windows, locks and mirrors; and cruise control. Certain features such as leather seating, DVD player and traction control are not available on the Voyager. If you're looking for a mega-loaded minivan, Chrysler has a Town & Country with your name on it.

And if you expect to use the Voyager's seven-passenger capability and/or generous luggage capacity, we'd advise you to get the V6, either as an option on the base van or by opting for the LX model. In addition to more muscle, another benefit of the V6 is its quiet performance, in contrast to the four, which can get buzzy when pushed.

One of the things we've raved about while piloting any of the new Chrysler/Dodge minivans is their agile handling and supple ride characteristics. We suspect that these vans will surprise a lot of folks who expect the driving experience to be an exercise in lethargic vehicle dynamics.

Crash-test scores are mostly good, but not outstanding as on some competitors, such as the Honda Odyssey. Another area where the Chrysler falls a bit short is in reliability history, though the company has improved in this respect in recent years.

For the money, these are sweet driving and comfortable shuttles that deserve a look if a short-money purchase is the main objective.

Built for the rugged paths: 6 reasons buying a jeep wrangler is a smart investment.

voyager rg 2001

Americans buy nearly 18 million cars each year. Having a vehicle that is both appealing and reliable is essential. With all the different automobile options on the market, selecting the best one is no easy task.

Before going out to look at vehicles, you need to make a list of features you are looking for. Are you looking for a vehicle that is sensible and fuel-efficient? Does your new vehicle need more power for off-roading?

If you are looking for a vehicle that has power, appeal and the ability to go off-road, the Jeep Wrangler is a great option. When buying a Jeep Wrangler, you can take advantage of several unique and helpful features.

Read below to find out more about the Jeep Wrangler and why it is a great investment.

1. The New Jeep Wranglers Have a Longer and Wider Body Style

One of the first things you will notice about the new Jeep Wrangler is the appealing body style. While this newer model pays homage to the Wranglers of the past, it is definitely unique. The main difference between the new Wrangler body style and the old one is the longer and wider body.

The traditional two-door Wrangler is around 3 inches longer than it has been in the past. The four-door model is around 4 inches longer than previous models. These new Wranglers also have a larger wheelbase, which is perfect for traveling over rugged terrain.

The growth of the Wrangler body is due in pace to the larger pieces of auto glass in this model. Accommodating this larger and thicker glass required Jeep engineers to great creative with how they structured this new Wrangler model.

2. Take Advantage of Steel Bumpers When Buying a Jeep Wrangler

For most people, the decision to buy a Jeep Wrangler comes down to the high-level of durability offered. The team at Jeep understands their off-road loving Wrangler audience extremely well. This is why the new Wranglers feature steel bumpers.

With these bumpers, you can accommodate heavy-duty winches with ease. These winches are a must-have for any off-roading enthusiast that wants more versatility. If you are ever stuck, pulling yourself out should be easy with the help of your durable steel bumper and a high-quality winch.

Not only are the new Wrangler bumpers more durable than ever before, but they are also 2 inches higher. If you are looking for a great deal on a new or used Jeep Wrangler, be sure to visit this dealership . With their help, you can get the Wrangler of your dreams without overpaying.

3. New Transmission Upgrades

The Jeep Wrangler is a great mix of power and efficiency. The newer model Wranglers come stock with six-speed manual Aisin D478 transmissions. Not only do these transmissions pack a punch, but they can also help to improve fuel efficiency.

If you just aren’t comfortable using a standard transmission, you can get a Wrangler with an automatic transmission instead. The mild-hybrid engine features in the new Wrangler is said to provide both fuel economy and plenty of off-road performance.

For years, people thought that getting a great performing off-road vehicle meant they had to sacrifice fuel-efficiency. The design team at Jeep has turned this notion on its head with the delivery of the powerful and efficient Wrangler.

4. Better Climbing Angles

There are few things as exhilarating as climbing a rock facing with a powerful and reliable vehicle. One of the biggest selling points of the Jeep Wrangler has always been its ability to climb hills and rock facings. As with many other features, the new Jeep Wrangler has taken the climbing angles it is capable of to a whole new level.

The design team at Jeep painstakingly test their vehicles to ensure they are safe for climbing and off-roading. Both the JK and JL Wrangler models have improved approach, break-over and departure angles than ever before.

With this additional power, you can go higher and faster than ever before. The Jeep Wrangler is a vehicle designed to make traversing rugged terrain easy and safe.

5. New Tires and Wheels

As every off-road enthusiast knows, a great set of tires is essential for any successful rock climbing or mud-riding trip. Luckily, the new Wranglers feature 33-inch BF Goodrich tires. You can also upgrade the tires if needed.

One option offered on the new Wrangler provides users with a 2-inch lift kit and 35-inch tires. With this setup, getting over mountainous terrain will be easy.

While you may have to pay more for these upgrades, they are worth it. These upgrades will provide you with more versatility and appeal. The last thing you want is to get stuck in your new Wrangler, which is why paying for the extra bells and whistles is a great idea.

6. The Technology Features in the New Wrangler

When investing in the new Jeep Wrangler, you will also be able to take advantage of several technology features. The first thing you will notice when getting in this vehicle is the push-button start and the 7-inch touchscreen display.

The infotainment system in the Wrangler features everything from a GPS system to Bluetooth capabilities. Connecting your phone to your new Jeep Wrangler allows you to talk hands-free and listen to your favorite music. These features allow you to get the best mix of technology and old-school torque.

A Great Investment

As you can see, buying a Jeep Wrangler is a great idea. This vehicle retains its value and will provide you with years of enjoyable driving experiences.

How to Get the Best Deal on a New Car at a Dealership

voyager rg 2001

People hate haggling over the price of a car. They hate it  so much that some  surveys have shown that a large percentage of people would rather do their taxes, sit in the middle seat on an airplane, or spend an afternoon at the DMV as opposed to negotiating with a car salesman.

Do you feel their pain? If so, you should know that going through the negotiation process when buying a car doesn’t  have to be stressful. You just need to learn how to get the best deal on a new car at a dealership.

Would you like to find out how it’s done? Here are several tips that will help you get the best deal possible the next time you walk onto a car dealer’s lot.

Come Up With a Car-Buying Budget From the Beginning

How much can you realistically afford to spend on a new car at this time? That’s a question you’re going to want to ask yourself before you begin learning about how to get the best deal on a new car at a dealership.

Your budget will help determine everything from which car you try to buy to how hard you fight at the negotiating table to get the price of that car down. Take a look at your financial situation and crunch the numbers to see what your car-buying budget should be at this time.

Decide Which Car You Want to Buy Before Visiting a Dealership

Years ago, shopping for a car literally meant heading down to a dealership and browsing around on their lot to see which cars stood out. It often took people hours to drive from one dealership to the next to find a car that they really liked.

You don’t have to do this anymore. While you can still shop for cars in person if you want, it’s so much more convenient to do it online these days.

Just about every car dealership has a website set up that showcases the cars they have in stock. This dealership is a great example of that.

Poke around on the dealer websites in your area to see which cars stand out the most to you. Use your predetermined budget to decide which options will work best based on your finances.

This will put you in a more powerful position when you go to visit a dealership for the first time. You won’t have to worry about a salesman trying to “sell” you on a particular car on their lot even though it might not fit your needs or be listed at a price that you feel comfortable with.

Find Out Everything You Can About Your Preferred Car

After you’ve decided which car you want to buy, learn  everything you can about it. This includes taking a closer look at all the features located in it.

But it also includes learning about:

  • How long that it usually lasts
  • What kind of resale value that it is
  • Which common problems often pop up with it and require maintenance and repairs

The more you know about a car, the more ammo you’ll have at the negotiating table. When you’re able to show a salesman that you understand the ins and outs of a car, they’ll respect you more and take your negotiations more seriously.

Pick the Best Time to Shop for a Car at a Dealership

Once you have a car-buying budget in place and know which car you want, you’ll almost be ready to head down to a dealership that has the car in stock to try and buy it. But don’t go to do it at just any old time.

If you can afford to wait a little while, it’s best to shop for a car either at the end of a month, at the end of a quarter, or, best of all, at the end of a year. Car dealers are usually very motivated to move as many cars as they can at these times to meet quotas.

Walk into a dealership at one of these times and let a car salesman know which car you’re interested in buying. Take it for a test drive and then grab a seat at the negotiating table.

Start Negotiating as Close to the Invoice Price of a Car as You Can

The physical act of negotiating the price of a car is the thing that scares people the most. But it doesn’t have to be scary! As long as you’ve done your homework, you should be in a position of power when you’re negotiating with a car salesman.

You don’t want to be disrespectful in any way when you’re negotiating with a car salesman. But you do want to make fair and firm offers to them throughout the process. And if you’re given the opportunity to start the negotiating process, begin by throwing out a price that’s as close to the invoice price of a car as you can get it.

A warning: Your car salesman is more than likely  not going to accept your initial offer. It won’t bring in the kind of profit that they’re looking for, which is why they’ll often counter with a much higher offer.

Your goal from there will be to slowly inch your way up a few hundred dollars at a time until you and the car salesman are in the same ballpark. From there, you should be able to strike a deal that fits within your budget and makes both sides happy.

Prepare to Walk Away From the Negotiating Table If You Have to

There is a chance that you and a car salesman might not be able to reach a deal. It happens!

If you’re not comfortable with the final price that a car salesman throws out, be prepared to get up and walk out if you have to. They could very well call you back later with a better offer than might be more to your liking.

You might also need to try buying the car that you want from a different dealership. You can even try to pit dealerships against one another to get the best deal possible on a new car.

Prevent Stress by Knowing How to Get the Best Deal on a New Car at a Dealership

Are you going to buy a new car sometime soon? Learn how to get the best deal on a new car at a dealership before you do it.

Most people struggle when it comes to negotiating the price of a car simply because they don’t prepare for it. As long as you follow some of the tips found here, you should be able to make out much better when you’re trying to drive down the price of a new car.

Take a look at our blog for more tips on buying a new car for the right price.

The Most and Least Expensive Cars To Insure

Federal law requires all drivers to have car insurance. If you’re like most people, you want to make sure you’re

voyager rg 2001

Federal law requires all drivers to have car insurance. If you’re like most people, you want to make sure you’re getting the best deal from a car insurance company.

After all, insurance companies have a notorious reputation in society for doing their best to pay as little as possible during auto accidents. Choosing the right insurance provider is important for this very reason.

Though, it’s important to know the most expensive cars to insure before starting your search. In this article, we’ll go over the most and least expensive cars to insure.

What are the Most Expensive Cars to Insure?

With thousands of car models available, giving you a complete rundown on the most expensive cars to insure can be challenging.

Though, after doing some deep research, we’ve compiled a list of 10 of the most expensive cars to insure by vehicle make and model:

  • Maserati Quattroporte S GranSport:  $4,823
  • Maserati Ghibli S Q4 GranSport: $4,208
  • Tesla Model S Plaid: $4,143
  • Tesla Model X Plaid: $4,025
  • BMW M760i xDrive: $3,914
  • BMW M8 xDrive: $3,907
  • Audi R8 5.2L Spyder Quattro: $3,863
  • Nissan GT-R Nismo: $3,829
  • Maserati Levante GTS: $3,803
  • BMW M5 Competition xDrive: $3,777

As you can see, most of these cars are expensive sports cars or luxury models. Car insurance companies know that these cars attract thieves and can be expensive to repair.

If you own any of these cars, be prepared to pay high insurance costs. There’s no getting around it if you own any of these sports or luxury vehicles.

What are the Least Expensive Cars to Insure?

Every driver’s goal is to pay the smallest insurance rates possible. If you own any of these cars, you’re definitely in luck if you plan to start shopping for car insurance .

Below are 10 of the least expensive cars to insure:

  • Chrysler Voyager L: $1,272
  • Honda CR-V LX: $1,285
  • Mazda CX-3 Sport: $1,294
  • Fiat 500X Trekking: $1,301
  • Honda HR-V LX: $1,322
  • Jeep Compass Sport: $1,324
  • Mazda CX-5 Sport: $1,328
  • Subaru Outback 2.5I: $1,330
  • Subaru Forester 2.5I: $1,333
  • Jeep Wrangler JL Sport: $1,339

Except for the Chrysler Voyager L, all of the vehicles on this list are SUVs. There are a few reasons why these cars may be cheap to insure.

One reason may be that these vehicles are cheap to repair. Another reason may be that many insurance companies don’t get a lot of claims for these vehicles.

What Makes a Car Expensive to Insure?

The amount you’re paying for your car insurance will depend largely on the vehicle you drive. Again if your insurance provider has a negative history with a certain car, this can affect your insurance rates if you own the same car.

Expensive repair costs can also impact how much you’ll pay for auto insurance. For example, cars with lane departure warnings and parking assist are usually more difficult and expensive to repair.

Therefore, if your car has any of these advanced safety features, you could be paying more in insurance costs.

It’s also important to mention that the more comprehensive your insurance plan, the higher your insurance rate will be for a sports or luxury car.

For example, let’s say that a nearby tree falls and smashes your car. If you’ve bought collision and comprehensive insurance, your provider will have to cover the value of your car.

Obviously, if your car has a high MSRP , your insurance company is going to raise your rates. This is especially true if your provider has received claims from your vehicle from other drivers.

What are Other Factors That Impact Car Insurance Cost?

Your car’s make and model isn’t the only factor that will impact your insurance cost. Other factors can affect your car insurance cost, such as:

  • Driving Record:  Insurance companies will always take a look at your driving record before giving you a quote
  • Location:  The location where you park your car matters to your insurance company for safety reasons
  • Vehicle Use:  Whether you use your car for business or personal will impact your insurance rate
  • Mileage:  The more mileage your car has, the more likely it’ll need expensive repairs
  • Credit-Based Insurance Score:  Insurance companies typically assign scores to people they insure
  • Past Claims:  If you’ve submitted insurance claims in the past, this could affect your insurance claims, whether they were in your favor or not
  • Recent Lapses:  If your insurance has lapsed in the past, your provider could raise your rates
  • Type of Coverage:  How much coverage you purchase will always affect how expensive your rates will be

What Types of Cars Have the Highest Insurance Rates?

It’s not enough to know about the cars with the highest insurance rates. Insurance companies typically classify a select few of vehicles they’ll insure for higher costs.

These vehicles are:

Sports Vehicles:

It goes without saying that sports vehicles carry the highest car insurance rates. This isn’t just because these cars are built to maintain high speeds.

It’s also because younger drivers usually handle these cars and tend to be more accident-prone. All of these factors usually lead to higher car insurance costs.

Luxury Vehicles:

Luxury cars are delicate vehicles. When they need repair, it can be expensive for owners and insurance companies alike.

Insurance companies consider luxury vehicles to be high-risk because they’ll have to pay their full value during a serious car accident.

Electric Vehicles:

Electric vehicles often need to be repaired by manufacturers instead of a local auto mechanic. This can drive up repair costs, which is considered to be a red flag by insurance companies.

In fact, replacing an EV battery can cost thousands of dollars by itself.

Flashy Vehicles:

Comprehensive insurance covers your vehicle if it’s been damaged due to flood, fire, and vandalism. It will also cover your car if it’s been stolen.

As you can imagine, you will have to pay more money in insurance costs for a vehicle that’s flashy and likely to be targeted by thieves.

Best Tips for Choosing the Cheapest Insurance Rates

As you can see, the car you drive and other factors can influence the amount you’ll spend on insurance costs. The good news is that there are several ways you can choose the best rates.

Below are some excellent ways you can save on car insurance:

Don’t Make Any Assumptions:

It’s no secret that major insurance companies will spend a lot of money on TV commercials to convince you they have the lowest insurance rates.

One of the biggest mistakes people make is taking these commercials at face value. It’s important to do your research before making any decision.

For example, insurance companies have different rates for drivers in different states. To avoid making a mistake, you should field quotes from multiple different insurance companies before making a final choice.

Don’t Ignore Local Companies:

An average person knows about the most popular, national insurance companies. It’s important to note that these companies aren’t ideal for everyone.

There are tons of local insurance companies that can better serve your needs. Many of these companies have excellent online reviews and a highly-satisfied customer base.

Ask About Discounts:

Don’t assume that an insurance company doesn’t provide discounts. Many of them do, but will only offer them to you if you ask. For example, here are some scenarios where you can qualify for a discount:

  • Bundle your car insurance with homeowner’s insurance
  • Insure numerous cars under one policy
  • Have a spotless driving record
  • Pay your annual premium right away
  • Own a car with anti-theft or other safety features

Improve Your Credit Score:

Believe it or not, but your credit score can impact your car insurance rate. Only a few states like Hawaii, California, Michigan, and Massachusetts don’t allow car insurance companies to look at credit when providing insurance.

Having poor credit can increase your car insurance rates by hundreds of dollars every year. If you take the time to work on your credit, you’ll be in a great position to receive the best car insurance rates.

Avoid Comprehensive Coverage for an Older Vehicle

If you want to lower your car insurance rate by any means necessary, you should avoid buying comprehensive coverage.

Your insurance company will have to raise your rate in case you need future repairs that cost more than what the car is worth.

Also, older cars are prone to breaking down and need expensive repairs from time to time. Most insurance companies won’t have a problem insuring your car.

They will raise your rate if you want to purchase more insurance for an older car model.

Be a Safe Driver:

One of the easiest ways to take advantage of the lowest car insurance rates is to become a safe driver. Insurance companies will consider you a high risk if your driving record is full of speeding tickets and citations.

If you have been involved in a car accident in the past and have an SR-22 form, your insurance rates will almost always be higher.

Browse More Expensive Cars to Insure

Finding some expensive cars to insure is half the battle if you want to pay as little as possible for car insurance. Following the tips above will help you receive the best rates for your vehicle.

5 Best Reasons Why Buying a Truck Is Better Than a Car

When it comes time to buy a new vehicle, you may feel torn between buying a truck and buying a

voyager rg 2001

When it comes time to buy a new vehicle, you may feel torn between buying a truck and buying a car. In our opinion, you can never go wrong with a truck. Whether you’re single or have a large family, trucks can support all lifestyles.

But why is it better to buy a truck than a car? After all, cars have great fuel efficiency, nice features, and decent safety ratings, don’t they?

In truth, there’s nothing wrong with buying a highly-rated car. However, we still think you’re better off with a pickup. Keep reading to learn why.

1. Four-Wheel Drive

First, almost all trucks, even small-sized trucks have four-wheel drive. This can be especially useful during seasons of inclement weather. Trucks perform well in snow, rain, slush, ice, mud, and more. Cars, on the other hand, can often be found getting pulled out of sticky situations by truck owners.

This is also essential for people who like to hunt, go camping, or otherwise enjoy the great outdoors in areas that are more difficult to traverse.

2. Fuel Efficiency

When buying a truck, you may be concerned about fuel costs. We get it, nothing is certain in our economy and you don’t want to spend a fortune on gas. Fortunately, most newer trucks come equipped with technology that limits engine output when it isn’t needed to help you save on fuel.

Even cool pickup trucks with insane power can be incredibly fuel-efficient. Keep in mind, fuel efficiency in any vehicle can be improved based on how you drive.

One of the biggest reasons for buying a truck is if you need a vehicle that can tow things. This could be trailers for work or campers and boats for recreational activities. Outdoor activities can be wildly improved with the addition of boats, ATVs, snowmobiles, and more – but you must have a way to get them from point A to point B.

Trucks are also your best bet for hauling cargo. Whether you’re working on home improvement projects and need a vehicle capable of hauling building materials or are helping your friend move, a truck is a necessary asset. They can also be quite handy when it comes to transporting larger loads, such as gravel, dirt, equipment, and more.

If you’re all about vehicle safety, trucks are definitely the way to go. They’re big and sturdy, and in the event of hitting wildlife or colliding with another vehicle, you’re going to be well protected.

For some of the safest trucks on the road, check out RAM trucks for sale  near you. In fact, the Ram 1500 was the only truck to receive the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick Plus award in 2019.

Are You Thinking About Buying a Truck?

Are you thinking about investing in a new vehicle? If so, as mentioned above, we really think you should consider buying a truck. However, before you make your choice, be sure to check out some of our other articles for more information about cars, trucks, vehicle maintenance, and more.

Which Country Makes the Best Cars?

Are you out to find the best car you can possibly get your hands on? Car manufacturing takes place all

voyager rg 2001

Are you out to find the best car you can possibly get your hands on? Car manufacturing takes place all around the world.

And lucky for us, all of these companies sell their vehicles worldwide. So here in the USA, we can find cars produced in many of these nations, giving us the freedom of choice when buying a vehicle.

But how do you know which country produces the best cars? And which car manufacturer should you buy from, knowing that a car will be one of your biggest purchases?

It’s a tough decision. But if you a looking for the highest quality vehicle, there are really only a few countries on the list that you need to be aware of. Keep reading to learn about the top car-producing countries.

Car Manufacturing in The US of A

There are a number of car manufacturers in the USA that most of us have grown accustomed to. If you are looking to stick with automobiles designed and manufactured here in the US, with American labor, you’re in luck.

General Motors, otherwise known as GM, is an automobile conglomerate that produces vehicles under other brand names. Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC are all American car brands owned by GM. These brands date back to the late 1800s, making them some of the most historically important car brands in the world today.

Other US manufacturers include Ford, Chrysler, RAM, Dodge, and Jeep. And don’t forget about Tesla.

One of the newest car manufacturers in the US, still less than 20 years old, Tesla is taking the United States by storm. With their all-electric vehicles that outperform almost any other vehicle on the market today, this company is one to watch.

There are a number of household names in the automobile industry that originate in Japan. Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Suzuki, and Toyota all come to us from Japan.

In the US, these are some of the most popular car brands thanks to reliability, innovation, and affordability. In fact, many of these companies have manufacturing facilities here in the states to make it easier for us to enjoy these vehicles.

Subaru is one of the most sought-after Japanese car manufacturers here in the US. While not the most common on the streets, younger generations are eager to own a Subaru. Popular models such as the Outback and the Forrester are perfect for the adventurer, road tripper, and off-roader.

The Germans also know a thing or two about car manufacturing, with popular names like Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, BMW, and Porsche. These are some of the most performance-driven, luxurious vehicles on the market today.

Volkswagen combines the engineering powerhouse of the country with affordability, making this one of the most popular car brands in the US. And when it comes to the most common luxury cars in the US, three German brands top list.

So if you are looking to drive around in a top-drawer vehicle, there’s a good chance you are supporting German car manufacturers.

Don’t forget about Korea. Alongside Japan, Korea leads the car manufacturing process in Asia with brands such as Hyundai and Kia. They make and ship cars all over the world, which is why we see plenty of them on the road in America, as well as every other place that we travel to.

Brands like Kia produce budget-friendly, compact cars that are most often driven by young drivers. And if you ever rent a car, there’s a good chance you’re going to drive a Kia.

Car enthusiasts around the world are familiar with companies based in Italy. This nation produces some of the top sports cars in the world.

With iconic brands like Ferrari, Fiat, Lamborghini, and Maserati, Italy has an obsession with speed, performance, and futuristic-looking vehicles.

Head to a car show anywhere in the US and you can be confident that the most popular vehicles on the lot are going to be from Italy. Everyone wants their chance to drive a Ferrari or Lamborghini someday, but only a few ever do.

These cars aren’t cheap and they aren’t super common. If you own one, there’s a good chance you only drive it on special occasions. But if the stars align, you may get the opportunity to ride in one. You might just have to book a trip to Italy to make it happen, though.

Custom Cars

While the car manufacturing process can produce reliable, safe, and affordable vehicles, it doesn’t always produce the beautiful, unique, customized cars that made car enthusiasts are looking for.

If you are looking to drive a one-of-a-kind vehicle, you’re going to have to turn to auto shops that specialize in customizations. You can change nearly anything you want about your car, from the tires and the suspension to the seating and the stereo, there’s nothing you need to leave in stock form.

This gives you the chance of buying from a reputable car manufacturer but taking the design process into your own hands.

Nothing will alter the appearance of your car more than by choosing a custom paint color. Car companies play it safe by choosing bland, neutral colors for most of their vehicles.

But aftermarket auto shops that offer car painting services can help you paint your vehicle any color you can imagine. Painting a car is a serious endeavor that shouldn’t be attempted by the home enthusiast. Specialized techniques and equipment are needed, which is why these auto shops need to invest in paint booth cleaning services, as well.

So go ahead and choose an automobile manufacturer from this list to purchase a car from, but then head to your local body shop to turn your stock vehicle into a work of art.

Finding the Best Car for You

So which country makes the best cars? There’s no single answer. All of the countries listed above produce the most cars in the world, many of which date back over 100 years.

It really depends on what you are looking for when it comes to car manufacturing. Sports cars? Italy. Big, burly, powerful cars? The US. Budget-friendly, compact cars? Japan and Korea lead the way.

The size of the hole in the center of a wheel is known as the center bore or centerbore.

voyager rg 2001

Offset is the distance in millimetres from the centre line of the wheel to the wheel’s mounting face. Given that the mounting face can be either in front of or behind the centreline, the offset can be either neutral, positive or negative.

The Pitch Circle Diameter (PCD) is the diameter of the circle which passes through the centre of all the studs, wheel bolts or wheel rim holes

hp - Mechanical horsepower kW - Kilowatts PS - Metric horsepower

Wheel backspace is the distance from a wheel's mounting surface to the back edge of the wheel.

Tire pressure is a vehicle's recommended cold tire inflation pressure. It is measured in bars or PSI (pounds per square inch).

A sales region is a global automotive region in which a vehicle was officially sold or is still being sold.

ISO standard Ex.: M12 x 1.25 Nominal diameter (mm) x pitch (mm)

UN-series Ex.: 9/16" - 18 UNF Thread size (in) - thread pitch UNF - Unified National Fine Thread

Example: 215/55 R16 91 T

215 is the tire width in mm 55 is the ratio of profile height to width or simply 'profile'. With the same width, the larger this indicator, the higher the tire will be and vice versa 16 - diameter of the wheel (disk) in inches. (It is the diameter, not the radius!). This is the inner size of the tire or the outer size of the rim 91 - load index. This is the level of maximum permissible load on one wheel T - tire speed index

The method of attaching a wheel to a hub: wheel nuts or wheel bolts

The torque value specified by the manufacturer for wheel bolts or wheel nuts, which is to be set when tightening on the torque tool (torque setting). A rotational force given in Newton metres (Nm) or foot-pounds (ft-lbs), wheel torque measures lug nut / bolts tightness

The tires included with a new vehicle when it is purchased. OE tires are specifically chosen by the vehicle manufacturer to make the most of the vehicle's performance characteristics.

Chrysler voyager and grand voyager mk4 review (2001-2008), top notch mpv, but reliability can be a major issue.

voyager rg 2001

What is the Chrysler Voyager?

The fourth-generation Chrysler Voyager and Grand Voyager were among the best looking and most capacious people-carriers on the market when they were new. They were also among the most capable as they were comfy, well-appointed and seriously user-friendly. But being US-built Chryslers they were also a bit lacking in the materials and build quality department, which is why you have to be wary when buying a used example – especially as even the newest cars are now getting on.

voyager rg 2001

The difference between the Voyager and Grand Voyager is simple: the former is around a foot shorter than the latter, which means it has significantly less interior space. As a result, the only models worth looking at are the Grand editions; yes you’ll need a huge parking space but if you want to carry seven people, you might as well allow them to travel in comfort.

Search for and buy a used Chrysler Voyager

On paper the Grand Voyager had lots of rivals, but in reality there’s just the one – the box-on wheels Hyundai i800. Apart from this unsophisticated people mover the Chrysler was the only MPV that could seat seven and still have a decent sized boot; alternatives such as the Ford Galaxy, Renault Grand Espace and Citroen C8/Peugeot 807 offered no goods ‘n’ chattels space with all the seats filled. The Kia Sedona is worth a look, though being boxy, capacious and reliable. However, it feels rather downmarket, even in comparison with the Chrysler. Or you could look for a VW Transporter; the quality is excellent, but used values tend to be steep.

The fourth-generation Voyager and Grand Voyager made their debuts in February 2001. While the Voyager was offered with 2.4 or 3.3-litre petrol engines along with a 2.5-litre diesel, the Grand Voyager came with just the latter two powerplants. In April 2004 a facelift brought new headlights and more generous equipment levels while both models were also now available with a new 2.8-litre CRD diesel engine. The most useful addition came in April 2005 with the introduction of a Stow ‘n’ Go option, which allowed the seats to fold flat into the floor.

You should aim to buy a facelifted range-topping Limited or run-out Limited XS with the 2.8-litre CRD engine. Such cars are packed with kit and while that’s more to go wrong (and it probably will do so), you’ll have a few more buttons to play with while you’re waiting for the tow truck to arrive. Whatever you buy, make sure it’s got Stow & Go; it makes life a lot easier as without these you have to lift the chairs out individually. And unless you’re a gym worshipper you’ll struggle, because the chairs are seriously heavy.

When it was new the Grand Voyager was popular with celebrities thanks to its spaciousness, clean lines and the fitment of (in many cases) smart-looking privacy glass. While this fourth-generation model isn’t the best MPV to drive, it offers a huge amount of practicality and versatility for the money, and while running costs can be high, if you buy sensibly you can minimise expenditure. But investigate the cost of fixing even the most minor of faults before you buy; steep parts prices can bump up repair bills higher than you might think.

What to look out for when buying a used Chrysler Voyager

Chrysler doesn’t have a great record when it comes to reliability, thanks to under-engineering of some key components. Things like suspension bushes, track rod ends and wheelbearings can wear quickly, while the electrics aren’t very robust. Other items that go on the blink regularly include the heating and ventilation systems along with the electrically powered rear side doors. You also need to check that the components on the car’s underside aren’t rotten; the bodyshell doesn’t generally rust, but the bits that attach to its underside often do.

For such an old car, its recall record isn’t too lengthy; potential issues have been a power steering hose splitting, the handbrake failing and the windscreen wipers packing in, with later recalls for braking problems and incorrect deployment of airbags.
