In an ideal world, we would have all our favorite kitchen items on hand. But there's no question about it – RVs have a small kitchen, at least compared to a normal home's living space.

But with little space comes creativity! That's why we've come up with a long list of the best RV kitchen storage ideas, tips, and products…

RV Kitchen Storage Ideas, Tips, and Hacks

Here are 20 of the best RV organization ideas for your tiny kitchen. With the right storage solutions, you can make your small RV kitchen work for you on all your travels.

If you buy something through our links, we may get a small commission at no extra cost to you. It helps keep our lights on so we can continue to provide helpful resources for RVers. Read our  full affiliate disclosure here.

1 – Take Stock Of All Your Usable Space

To take advantage of the many RV organization accessories, it helps to measure everything first. How long exactly is your counter space? What are the different sizes of your drawers? How deep are your cabinets?

Then consider the heavy items you absolutely can't live without, like a blender (margaritas, anyone?). Maybe there isn't enough room for it in your RV cabinets.

There are lots of great solutions for small items, but you'll have more limited options with the big stuff. To find inspiration, take a look at the rest of your RV space. How do you use that space?

Maybe you only use your RV's dinette set to entertain. This means the space under the seats and table are available for extra storage of those things you use in that scenario. There's the added bonus of these items being tucked away out of sight all other times.

Drawing a kitchen plan with all of these dimensions will help significantly as you optimize your RV kitchen.

2 – Mount Things On The Walls If You Can

Speaking of taking stock of available space in your camper kitchen, how much wall space is available? The wall is a great place to create some extra space.

With a little bit of shopping and installation, you can create more storage room. Plus, since they're out in the open, easy access to them is maintained.

The company Organized Obie offers many super easy and affordable ways to maximize kitchen space. If you use the promo code RVLIFESTYLE they'll give you 5% off the cost of your order.

Here are some specific RV kitchen storage ideas for the wall that will free up much room…

3 – Wall Hooks

Consider which kitchen items you can hang, such as towels, cooking utensils, and even pots and pans.

Some hooks can hold more weight than others. So if you're looking to hang your cast iron pan, be sure to buy the right one!

You may have to remove some hanging items (like pots and pans) in transport to keep them from clanging and damaging your walls. But, a good hanging rack will make your RV kitchen more functional while using it.

4 – Magnetic Spice Racks

rv kitchen storage ideas

If you maybe want to limit the amount of wall damage, here's a great option that mounts using magnets. This shelf has some handy hooks and can keep your spices and pan holders ready to use, and out of the way.

There are many models of this kind of shelf so you can buy the one that fits your space.

5 – Magnetic Knife Strip

If you're bringing your nice knife set, they don't need to take up any precious counter space or drawer space. They can be magnetized to the wall!

It also helps to know that no matter how much your RV swerves, those knives are staying put.

Here is a quality magnetic knife strip that is affordable and highly-rated. It's a perfect space-saving way to store your favorite camp kitchen knives .

6 – Paper Towel Holder

rv kitchen storage ideas

This paper towel holder mounts on the bottom of a cabinet. This is a great way to save space on the counter in an out-of-the-way place.

The one we linked to above has a removable bar. This is important if you are installing it in a tight space because some paper towel holders require you to slide the paper towel roll on. So, you have to have TWICE the length available in order to hold the paper towel roll up next to it to slide it on.

7 – Cabinet Shelf Rack

rv kitchen storage ideas

One of the most effective RV kitchen storage ideas is putting another shelf on your shelf. It practically doubles your usable shelf space!

If you only have so much room horizontally, might as well try vertical!

This simple shelf rack works in most RV cabinets, but there are lots on the market to choose from. Again, be sure to measure and order the perfect size (horizontally and vertically) for your cabinets.

8 – Magazine Holders

Speaking of creating vertical space, many use magazine holders to accomplish this.

They can hold anything from pans, pot lids, a cutting board, or any kind of kitchen accessory that'll fit. You can find them at just about any Dollar Store.

9 – Clear Plastic Bins for Cabinets

This is where all that careful measuring comes into play. Tip: Don't forget to measure the lip on the shelf.

You can then buy the exact size clear plastic bins that will fit your space. The benefit is keeping food stacked and easily seen in the pantry.

By placing a rubber shelf liner beneath them, they will stay in place. However, it's possible that you can buy bins that will perfectly fit the space and won't move regardless. It will look great too!

10 – Use a BBQ Caddy

In addition to the plastic bins, we recommend having a BBQ or picnic table caddy. Then you can easily organize and move your outdoor utensils, napkins, etc.

You can even place them on your RV kitchen table, freeing up some cabinet space.

We recommend the Mr. Bar-B-Q Collapsible BBQ Caddy if you're limited on space. Or, the all-out condiment caddy with paper towel holder if you can spare the room.

( BTW, both of those caddies are on our sister website, Camping Food Recipes , list of the 35 Best Smoker Accessories & BBQ Tools for Camping . They really do come in handy!)

11 – Buy Stackable or “Nesting” Things

Mixing bowls, pans, and pots are easy to find in stackable form that nest inside each other. Plus, pots can usually fit stacked under the sink.

However, while the RV moves the pans could rub on each other and damage them. To prevent this, place dish towels or squares of felt between each pan.

Bowl tip: If you buy oven-safe bowls they can double as oven pans.

You can even store these pots and oven-safe bowls in the oven themselves. Just remember to take out the towels before using the oven!

12 – Collapsible Colanders

rv kitchen storage ideas

Colanders can be so pesky and bulky even in a regular-sized kitchen! Luckily the collapsible kind exists now, making it possible to store away easily.

Collapsible colanders often come in sets of 2 or 3, but you really only need one on the road. Leave the extra ones at home or give them to a fellow RVer.

13 – Instapot

rv kitchen storage ideas

One of the most recommended RV kitchen storage ideas is the Instapot. Its versatility in cooking methods (including air fryer !) makes bringing other appliances unnecessary.

It's also not too bulky, making for easy storage.

It takes a bit of practice to learn, but it can replace a few appliances in your RV.

14 – Over-the-Sink Dish Rack

Instead of using a dish rack  next to  your sink, you can get special dish racks that utilize your sink space. They essentially hang from the sides of your sink, with the dish rack sitting in the middle. This saves counter space AND keeps your countertops dry.

Many options can work for your rig, including an  expandable sink dryer  and a  collapsible over-sink dryer .

15 – Under Sink Expandable Shelf

You can buy a special shelf unit that works around your sink's plumbing. This Simple Houseware under sink organizer is a versatile storage unit designed specifically for RV kitchens.

With its two expandable tiers, this shelf can be adjusted from 15 to 25 inches, ensuring a perfect fit for any size RV.

Featuring three large steel panels and four small panels, this shelf provides ample space to store and organize your items. You can easily separate smaller items on the top rack and place bulkier items like chemical bottles on the bottom.

16 – Nifty Kitchen Towel Hooks

Kitchen towel hooks are a must-have for every RV kitchen. We particularly like these kitchen towel hooks because the are low profile and have a good grip.

Plus, you can attach them using the included self-adhesive tape or the enclosed screw to securely fasten them to your wall.

17- Collapsible Food Storage Containers

You don't want any leftovers to go to waste, but standard storage containers take up so much space. That's why collapsible food storage containers are so nifty.

This set comes in different sizes with very secure lids. Perfect for prepping and storing all kinds of camping food.

Speaking of leftovers, our sister website, Camping Food Recipes has great ideas for repurposing leftovers, including:

  • Best Leftover Mac and Cheese Casserole
  • Leftover Hamburger Patties Casserole (With Tater Tots)

18 – Reusable Food Storage Bags

One of the best ways to save room in your RV kitchen is to prep as many meals as you can at home. That's when reusable food storage bags really come in handy.

You can use them for so much, from homemade uncrustables to prepping easy tuna noodle casserole and so much more.

19 – Camping Cutting Board Set

Another great kitchen kit that saves space is this 9-in-1 camping cutting board. It includes a cutting board, collapsible colander, knives, and grater attachments.

It's really nifty for moving food back and forth from your portable camping grill, too.

20 – RV Coffee Maker

Standard coffee makers are often too bulky for RV use. That's why we made a long list of the best RV coffee makers.

Coffee-loving RV travelers have plenty of options, but here are the best coffee makers for RV travel. Go to the full list of the best RV coffee makers…

Remember, Less is More

After all these RV kitchen storage ideas, it's worth mentioning that the top advice is the mantra “Less is more.” On the road, it can be taxing to be always swimming in your stuff. Plus, you'll want to save some room for souvenirs!

You must get organized if you want your RV storage cabinets to be as efficient as possible. Group things into categories like “canned goods,” “cooking utensils,” etc. This will help you quickly find what you need when cooking or cleaning up after a meal.

2. Invest in space-saving storage containers and organizers.

This is one of the most common RV kitchen organization ideas. Invest in storage containers, organizers, and stackable shelves to maximize your limited space. This will allow you to store items more efficiently and ensure everything is within reach without taking up too much space.

This is a great way to free up some counter space in your RV kitchen. Hang up cooking utensils, pots, and pans from hooks or racks inside your cabinets. This will keep them within easy reach while freeing up precious counter space.

4. Use the back of the doors for storage.

RV cabinet doors are often wasted spaces that can quickly become additional storage areas with just a few simple items. Install door organizers, hooks, or place small containers on the back of the doors to create extra storage in your RV kitchen.

5. Use clear storage bins and implement a one-in, one-out rule.

Clear storage bins allow you to quickly identify what’s inside the container without opening it up. It also makes it easier to find an item when needed quickly.

Also, make sure that you follow the “one-in, one-out” rule. This means that for every new item you bring in, you should take out an old one to make room for it. This will help keep your RV kitchen organized and clutter-free.

Kitchen STORAGE Tips, Ideas, & Hacks (for Organizing Campers)

Are you tired of rummaging through your RV kitchen cabinets, searching for cooking or camping necessities?

To attain an efficient camping experience, you need to implement the best RV kitchen storage hacks that actually work so your food, dishes, and other supplies are easily accessible and organized.

I put together the top kitchen organization hacks for RVs to help you get your motorhome, travel trailer, or fifth wheel in order. By using some of the tips below, you’ll soon have your RV kitchen storage in tip-top shape and say goodbye to annoying, messy cabinets!

The First Step to RV Kitchen Organization

Before you start reorganizing your RV kitchen cabinets, drawers, and counters, you’ll need to take stock of what items you already own and what extra items you commonly bring along on camping trips.

Go through everything in your RV kitchen and separate all the items you rarely or never use, and discard any food items past their expiration date.

Don’t keep things “just in case,” as they will only bog down your organizational plans. For example, if you only camp as a family of four, you do not need 12 forks or eight cups.

Carry the least amount of items necessary to cook, eat, and clean up. Doing so will help keep your RV kitchen clutter-free.

Next, note how much storage space you need to set aside for food that doesn’t need to be refrigerated.

Bulky food items can take up a large portion of the pantry or cabinet space, and you don’t want to pack up your camper for a trip and find out you haven’t left enough room to store it properly.

Knowing the size and shape of kitchen supplies, you have will help you install the correct type of organizer to keep them neat and easy to grab.

Now that you have minimized your kitchenware and understand your food storage needs, you can now use the best RV kitchen storage hacks to finish your organization project.

10 Best RV Kitchen Storage Organization Hacks

An RV kitchen storage organization

RV kitchen cabinet space is limited and rarely suitable to corral items neatly.

By installing the right products and organizing camping supplies differently, you can instantly streamline and destress your RV cooking and cleaning chores.

Check out these top 10 hacks that expert RVers use and love!

1. Add Shelves or Racks to Walls and Cabinets

If RV kitchen storage is tight, expanding places to store food and camping supplies will keep things more organized.

RV cabinets typically are wide open or have a single shelf, making them great for large items like cereal boxes or packs of toilet paper, but the rest of the space above them is wasted.

Adding extra shelves gives you more surface space to organize and store your food and kitchen appliances. You can also insert a hanging shelf that slides over an existing shelf to increase storage and help separate like items for easy retrieval.

Another great problem solver is installing an enclosed wall-mount knife rack , which is much safer than leaving them loose in a drawer or relying on a magnetic strip to hold them secure.

For RV walls, I find shallow hanging baskets or shelving with a rail are much better suited to the RV lifestyle versus a flat shelf. What you place inside won’t roll or slide off when driving or if the camper sways when people are moving about inside.

Rethink your organization by repurposing a folder rack with hooks to store plates and cookbooks. The hooks underneath are perfect for keys or holding rings while you do the dishes.

If you love to cook during your RV trips, a set of spice racks will hold jars perfectly so you can quickly grab what you need.

In addition, the little rail keeps bottles secure during travel , and the separate shelves allow you to attach them wherever you have free wall space and only use enough to hold the spices you have. There’s no point using a rack that can hold 30 spices if you only use six.

2. Go Vertical

Stacking dishes, trays, pans, cutting boards, and cookie sheets at the bottom of a cabinet can become an RV organizational nightmare.

It becomes tiresome to constantly shuffle through the stacks to pull out the item you want and shove it back into place when you finish with it.

Installing products that allow you to vertically store large or flat kitchenware will eliminate the need to unstack or hunt for the right one. When it’s time to put the item away, it easily slips into an open slot with no struggle.

I love the pull-out tray organizer I have in the cabinet under my fridge. The width of the slots is adjustable, so I use one slot to hold my boxes of cling wrap, wax paper, and aluminum foil for the ultimate in dual-function storage!

For dishes, I like portable plate holders that come in several sizes. The price is reasonable, and keeping dishes vertically frees up cabinet space for other items. They are also easy to grab and take outside for patio meals.

Another way to create custom vertical storage slots in a cabinet is to place two or three tension rods upright in a line . They require no screws, making them fast to install without any damage to the cabinet framing.

3. Utilize the Cabinet Underside and Appliance Space

The area under your upper RV kitchen cabinets offers an abundance of storage space if you hang the right products to handle specific needs.

A paper towel holder or hooks for coffee mugs is an obvious choice for this area, but have you thought of using travel-friendly hanging fruit hammocks that can also work to hold sponges or cell phones off the counter or sink area?

If you make coffee with pods, an under-cabinet coffee pod holder is a genius storage solution.

A paper plate dispenser keeps them right where you need them yet out of the way.

Installing rotating circular hooks is another super-handy RV organizing hack that lets you hang those large utensils, gumming up drawer space, and instead store them in a tidy bunch that remains easy to access.

The most tried-and-true RV organizational hack is to use your oven or microwave as storage space when not in use. For example, microwaves make an excellent bread box or snack center.

The trick is to use a basket to corral pots, dishes, bread, or snacks you place inside the appliance.

When it comes time to use the appliance, you simply remove the whole basket, set it aside, and return it once you finish and the oven or microwave is safely cooled down.

WARNING: Please be careful when using RV appliances for storage. Make sure everyone in the camper is aware items may be inside, so there aren’t accidents because someone forgets to remove the basket before turning on the appliance.

4. Install a Magnetic Board

Magnetic boards are fantastic in RV kitchens, but don’t skimp on quality. You want the metal board and magnetic jars you hang from them to stay secure down the bumpiest of roads.

Most people buy pre-cut magnetic boards with container kits , but you can DIY a custom shape to fit an odd area of kitchen wall space, so it becomes a valuable organizational addition to your camper.

Even a strip a few inches wide can hold an ample amount of spices, or you can forgo sticking on jars and use a magnetic bar for metal knives or utensils while parked at a campsite.

5. Use Stackable Plastic Containers

Another way to keep your kitchen items organized is to separate them into clear plastic containers or totes with lids so you can stack them to take full advantage of all the interior cabinet space.

You can label the fronts with the contents, such as rice, canned food, oatmeal, or snacks, so you know which one to slide out. Then, once you open the lid, it’s easy to see what food you’re getting low on and need to restock.

Shop around for the width that leaves enough wiggle room to slip them in and out through the cabinet door and a depth that will hold items standing upright or lying down.

I can stack containers three high between my RV pantry shelves, which triples my storage capacity!

I also love how keeping supplies inside sealed containers deters pests from taking up residence.

6. Install Slide-out Bins in Lower Cabinets

Slide-out bins in lower cabinets

Thank you for signing up, we'll be in contact soon.

Want to connect with a community of over 1,078 rv enthusiasts.

In an RV or home, lower kitchen cabinets are often hard to access, which means you avoid using the storage space efficiently.

Installing slide-out cabinet organizers changes the game by making it easy to see and store all your pots and pans, food, or cleaning supplies.

Sliders allow you to pull your supplies out into the light, and there are many different sizes and shapes to fit your needs. Trash can holders are ideal for bulky items like dog food, kitty litter, or paper products.

Quality sliding units can seem a bit pricey. Still, they are worth the investment for convenience and optimal organization because items aren’t getting lost in the back of your RV cabinets.

7. Use an RV-Friendly Dish Rack

Countertop space in any camper is scarce, so setting out a dish drying tray and rack can often be difficult, and storing such a bulky item is even worse.

The best hack for drying dishes is to use a roll-up dish drying rack that fits over your RV sink basin.

The edges of the rack have a grip surface, so it won’t slide off during use. When you don’t need the rack, it rolls up into a small tube you can tuck into a drawer near the sink.

The design allows you to unroll it as much as you need, so you can still run water if you only have a single sink basin in your camper.

8. Add Rods with Hooks

Kitchen rails

Kitchen rails are rods you mount to the wall or under a cabinet that has moveable hooks for hanging kitchen towels, utensils, keys, or coffee cups.

The items on the rail are more secure during travel because the hooks are part of the rod, not free like an S-hook.

I like that you can tuck the rod right up under the upper cabinet, so you have plenty of room for longer items to hang from the hook. You can also turn the rod perpendicular to the counter directly underneath the cabinet so it takes up less wall space.

9. Install Canned Food Racks

Organizer racks for canned goods is another hack to utilize more of the RV cabinet space between shelves or when there is no shelf at all.

Plan to use some brackets to secure the rack bottoms in place so they won’t slide when the camper moves. For stackable racks, you’ll want to zip-tie the units together for more security.

Once the racks are stable, they do a fantastic job keeping cans from rolling away, and it allows you to store more food for longer RV trips.

10. Group Fridge Items in Baskets

Plastic storage caddies with handles are ideal for condiments or similar items, so you can easily grab the whole container and carry it to the counter for food prep or outside when having meals on your RV patio.

Measure your RV fridge shelf space and buy several baskets so you can group meats, fruits, veggies, drinks, eggs, and more. I suggest buying PBA-free plastic bins for fresh food storage and avoiding flimsy dollar store versions.

Baskets are easy to slide out, which means you can quickly see what you need without having to push items around on the shelf. Labeled bins also make it easy for everyone to put things away in the right spot and keep jars and bottles from tipping over during travel days.

Canned beverage dispensers are hit or miss for many RVers, but they can be helpful to make the most of limited fridge space if you want to keep a large number of canned drinks cold.

Final Thoughts

A RV's kitchen storage

Camping trips will run more smoothly when you have a way to safely store all the food, utensils, and supplies you need in your recreational vehicle kitchen.

The best way to organize RV kitchen storage is to use the space you have as efficiently as possible. Experienced RVers know the hacks above work because they use them every day!

Give these RV storage ideas a try yourself, and see how wonderful and organized the RV kitchen can be!

Renovating your RV | Replacement RV Cabinets

If you’re renovating an RV, you may be looking for replacement RV cabinets before tackling a new sink for the kitchen or finding the right sofa for the living area .

The questions start arising of whether you should replace them, or should you just fix up and paint the current cabinets?

Well, as I’ve been searching for RV cabinets for my own caravan (travel trailer) I have VERY quickly come to the conclusion that either fixing the old ones, or getting someone to make new ones, is the only option available to me.

This is particularly true for older RVs.

Ours is 40 years old so unless I should happen to find somewhere to purchase RV cabinets that are from another caravan like ours, I will either need to fix our current ones, or ask someone to make some for us.

So let’s have a look at those meagre options:

This post contains affiliate links. Please see our  disclosure  for more information.

1. Buy Used RV Cabinets

Search online.

If you’re wanting to buy used cabinets for your RV, I would start by doing a Google search for your specific RV Make and type of RV and approximate year of manufacture.

I wouldn’t go too specific with the exact model that you have, as that may limit your results too much.

For example, you could try ‘Keystone Fifth Wheel 2008 used cabinets’. And then depending on whether you get any results from google, refine or broaden your search.

So if you get loads of results that are almost right, but not quite, then be more specific with length or model number.

If you don’t get any results at all, you might just try ‘Keystone used cabinets’

There is no doubt, you are going to get a ton of ‘used RV’ results, but keep trying to refine your search to see if anything comes up.

Don’t be too surprised if you don’t find much though.

I couldn’t.

I found lots of used RVs, and RV overhead cabinet hinges, doors and latches. But not much for the actual RV cabinets.

You might also try doing a search on Craigslist or eBay for your specific cabinet.

The other place I would search is the manufacturers website . They will often have a parts section where they will sell used components.

There are also online retailers that you could try, like:

factoryrvsurplus.com rvpartsnation.com discountvantruck.com/discountrvaccessories/rvfurniture rvinteriors.visonerv.com

I would like to think that buying (lightly) used cabinets would be the easiest option, but they’re so hard to find that I don’t really like your chances of that.

If you are able to find replacement RV cabinets, here’s an article with st eps on how to install those RV cabinets .

If however, you can’t find anything second hand, you’ll need to move to the next options of: 2) Fix the current cabinets, or 3) Get someone to make new cabinets for you.

2. Fix the RV cabinets

I think I’m going to need to up-skill on my (non-existent) wood-working skills if I was to rebuild our cabinets! With all the curves in our caravan, this is a daunting prospect for me.

But if I were just replacing different parts of the cabinet (like the bits that are broken) then I’m sure I’d be okay.

Replacement RV cabinet doors

You may be able to find suitable replacement doors only at places like Discount Camper Parts .

If you’re a handy wood worker, you could replace them yourself like this guy:

(Actually, if you were like this guy, then you certainly wouldn’t need to be on my website looking for instructions! #amiright)

Replacing RV cabinet hinges

Okay, so this is one area where you’re going to have no problem what so ever in finding replacements. Whether it’s the RV kitchen cupboard hinges or the RV overhead cabinet hinges you’ll find loads AND LOADS everywhere.

First stop: Amazon (see below)… and every other RV parts supplier online.

RV cabinet latches

Since the latch is the thing that keeps the cabinet door closed as you’re bumping down the highway, you’ll ned to make sure that your latches are strong, but also easy to operate.

If you have young children, then you’ll also need to consider latches that they can’t open… but you can.

Again, you could start with Amazon.

Or The Home Depot . Soooo much to choose from!

Painting RV cabinets

I have a very ‘slapdash’ approach to painting. I just paint… it’s lucky if I even clean the surface first!)

This is a terrible approach, particularly with cabinets!

Read this guide for the detailed steps on how to paint RV cabinets: A Complete Guide to Painting RV Walls & Cabinets

3. Make new cabinets

Make them yourself.

Clever and skilled people can make their own RV cabinets and furniture, so they can be exactly what you want. You can use whatever materials you want and make your own lightweight cabinets for RV.

Aftermarket RV cabinets

Here are a couple of manufacturers of aftermarket RV cabinets that may be able to make exactly the cabinet that you need.

wooddesignrv.com/cabinets/ daveandljs.com/rv-cabinets-and-storage-systems/ classiccoachworks.com/rv-cabinetry coachsupplydirect.com/rv-products/rv-desks-cabinets-tables-valances/

Or you could commission someone else to make them for you. I would start with your local RV manufacturers or dealers to see if they have a local craftsman that they could recommend.

Of course, you could ask any cabinet maker to do the work for you, but you would need to make sure they’re comfortable with the sometimes curved walls and unusual obstructions (like wheel wells) of an RV, and the importance of lightweight cabinets for your RV.

How do you remove RV cabinets?

Open shelving.

There’s a new fad that’s been doing the rounds of RV renovations. It’s one of the trendy decor ideas that you either love… or hate.

Open shelving in the kitchen instead of RV overhead cabinets

Me? I LOVE it.

However… I also know that it would drive me a little bit nuts having to take the stuff down every time we move.

But the biggest reason it wouldn’t work for us?

I don’t have beautiful stuff to put out on display on those shelves. My cups are all mismatched, my cookware old and battered, and I know I’d end up putting the ‘often used’ things up there rather than the ‘prettiest’ things. Which would defeat the purpose of the open shelves for me. (I like pretty, I just don’t do it very well myself.)

Here are some examples of people that have done it very right though:

If you can pull off the open shelving look, just think how much work that would save in replacing or repairing your RV cabinets!

If your cabinets are beyond repair… it may be your only option!

Have your replaced or repaired your RV cabinets? What did you do?

Everything covered except where to buy new cabinets if you want to renovate. Google doesn’t have much either. Is this really such an odd request? I want to buy ready made as it should be more economical than hiring a cabinetmaker. DIY stores have this sort of thing for homes, why nothing comparable for RV’s? I’m tearing out my entire kitchen cluster and want to replace it with a different style and color–help!

I should add that I don’t take your suggestion to contact manufacturers as helpful because I don’t like my RV kitchen, so why contact them? I got it for other reasons and have always intended to redo the kitchen. I just need counter and cabinets to configure into the newly created space. I am NOT handy, so can’t do it myself.

10 RV Pantry Storage Ideas & Organization Solutions

This post may contain affiliate links.

Sometimes RV pantry cabinets aren’t quite as functional as they need to be: too deep, too narrow, too tall, or altogether non-existent!

Fortunately, these brilliant RV owners came up with clever solutions for those annoying RV pantry problems. Borrow their solutions to organize your own camper or motorhome!

Pantry Problem #1: The cabinet is too deep.

One of the most common problems with RV pantry cabinets is that they’re so deep it’s difficult to reach things toward the back, especially on the upper cabinets.

Solution #1: The Rev-a-shelf cabinet system.

One excellent solution to this problem is the Rev-a-shelf cabinet system of pull-out wire rack. This is what RV owner Debra Jones used in her RV pantry pictured below.

Rev-a-shelf wire slide out baskets can help you reach the back of a deep kitchen pantry cabinet in your RV.

You can find these pull-out shelves in multiple different sizes to fit your cabinets.

  • MAKE YOUR LIFE EASIER FEELING LIKE A PROFESSIONAL COOK with the joy of having everything at your fingertips

Solution #2: Make your own pull-out shelves.

A much more budget-friendly option is to make something similar yourself, which is what these RV owners did:

DIY wooden pull out shelves made for an RV kitchen pantry cabinet

If you would like to try a DIY cabinet storage solution, Ana White has downloadable plans for this type of project.  For example, this project or this one  looks similar to what the McIntyres built.

Pantry Problem #2: Cabinet too narrow

Some campers and motorhomes have a pantry cabinet that’s extremely narrow in addition to being deep.

Solution #1: Add narrow pull-out racks.

The Rev-a-shelf system also comes in a narrower width that’s ideal for a situation like this. (This shelving system is sold at many home improvement stores.)

Rev-a-shelf wire slide out baskets can help you reach the back of a deep kitchen pantry cabinet in your RV.

Solution #2: Build a pull-out shelf.

My favorite solution to the narrow cabinet problem is this beautiful pull-out shelf made custom by RV owner Karen Finch’s son-in-law.

This DIY slide out shelf makes it easer to reach things in the back of a narrow, deep kitchen pantry cabinet.

Here’s a DIY plan that could probably be adapted to use drawer slides instead of wheels if you wanted to try building this yourself.

Pantry Problem #3: Pantry too messy

These RV owners ditched the original cabinet shelves to replace them with something that worked for their space.

Solution #1: Add Elfa baskets.

The white wire basket drawers in the photo below are a combination of Elfa brand baskets from The Container Store and Closet Maid shelf brackets from Lowe’s.

This storage solution helps things in this RV kitchen pantry cabinet stay organized.

Solution #2: Add free-standing drawers.

This next idea requires no DIY skill whatsoever, as the whole thing is a freestanding unit that just slides into the cabinet.

RV owner Cindy Martin chose this Elfa closet organizer from The Container Store after comparing multiple options because it fits perfectly. It even left room that would allow her to hang small narrow baskets on the inside of the pantry door.

Elfa brand closet drawers from the Container Store were used to organize this RV kitchen pantry cabinet.

Pantry Problem #4: Shelves too tall

Not only do tall shelves waste space at the top, but they’re also an avalanche waiting to happen!

Solution #1: Add a wall-mounted rack.

One RV owner solved this problem by adding a nail polish rack to a cabinet.  She bought hers at Marshall’s, but you can also find racks that would work on Amazon, like this acrylic one or this wire one .

iDesign Hanging Nail Polish & Cosmetics Organizer, The Clarity Collection – 8.78' x 2.02' x 11.07', Clear

  • WALL MOUNT COSMETIC ORGANIZER: The iDesign Hanging Nail Polish Rack is designed with three shelves to store and display a variety of bathroom necessities such as nail polish, makeup, cosmetics, jewelry, accessories, and more.

Solution #2: Add free standing wire shelves.

I have the same problem of tall, shallow cabinet shelves in my own RV pantry.  To make better use of the space, I:

  • made a magnetic wall for my spices
  • added wire shelves
  • and used tension rods to hold some of the things in place.

Tension rods and wire shelves add storage to an RV kitchen pantry cabinet and help things stay in place during travel.

You can order the wire shelves online , but they are usually cheaper at places like Dollar General.

Solution #3: Add additional wood shelves. (No drilling required!)

I found out about an easy way to add removable wood shelves to cabinets that doesn’t require any tools, screws, or other hardware.

I used that method to add a shelf at the top of the cabinet below, and even had the wood cut for me at Lowe’s.

Easy way to add a cheap, removable shelf to an RV

Personally, I like this method even better than the wire shelves because it’s sturdier and there are no bars for small things to fall through.

Read the tutorial here.

Pantry Problem #5: No pantry or not enough pantry space

If your RV doesn’t have a pantry or you simply need more space, an organizer like one of these can be a good solution.  The one on the left is from the Container Store and while it’s designed to hang on a door, it could be mounted on a wall as well.  It is kind of pricey, but there are cheaper alternatives .

Metal organizers hung on doors to add storage space to an RV that doesn't have a pantry.

You could also get one that hangs over a door like in the photo on the right.  I really like this woven basket style , and have actually thought about buying one myself to replace a cheaper door organizer I use in my bedroom for clothes storage.

Great ideas! Thanks!

How clever!

RVers are geniuses. I’ve got a serious case of problem #2 and #4… I didn’t even know those rev-a-shelf existed until now! I’m definitely going to look into getting some of those – Maybe then I’d be able to keep track of all my spices lol

The Rev-a-shelf system is definitely goals for my next house! Knowing me I’ll probably hack a DIY version though….

Any ideas for akward shaped cupboards? I have a triangular pantry, deep and lots of space between three shelves.

Hmm….well first of all I’d probably stick stuff I didn’t use as often in the back….or what about a Lazy Suzan? If a Lazy Susan would fit, you could get wedge shaped storage bins like these to keep stuff from falling off the back.

Great tips! We are currently building an expedition truck and I’ve found your tips inspiring 🙂

Thank you for inviting us in and showing pictures of your home! Thank you for showing us your pantry space that reflects reality and a lived in kitchen!! I need functional and realistic, doable organizing tips. God bless 😊

Best RV Kitchen Storage Tips From iRV2 Members

  • RV Lifestyle

When your home is on wheels, all bets are off for keeping things in one place on the road. Take your kitchen for example. You might leave home with everything neatly tucked away in your cabinets, only to pull into a campground and find this:

RV kitchen storage tips

Rubber shelf liners

These low cost rubber shelf liners will prevent pots and pans from banging around in your cabinets.

They can also be placed underneath appliances like coffee makers and gadgets like water filter pitchers. Secure them with heavy double-sided carpet tape.

Refrigerator and cabinet bars

Another item that will keep your groceries in the cabinet and refrigerator where they belong: cupboard bars.

travel trailer kitchen drawers

Square containers

Round containers don’t work in tight kitchens, which is why products like the Smartspace pots and pans were invented.

Ditch round plastic containers in favor of square and rectangle ones and you’ll fit more items on your shelves.

Flexible cutting boards

Buy a pack of thin flexible plastic cutting boards instead of relying on traditional ones. These food-safe boards weigh nothing and can be stored underneath your pots and pans when not in use.

travel trailer kitchen drawers

Ditch food packaging

Food packaging is meant to look nice on a store shelf, not in your RV. From boxes of frozen food to cereal, ditch the packaging in favor of square and rectangular-shaped containers that fit better in your kitchen shelves.

Don’t forget to save the product cooking instructions and keep them inside each container.

Make friends with self-adhesive hooks

These small hooks can be placed inside kitchen cabinet doors to hang utensils and potholders and save space in your drawers. Choose the cooking utensils you use most for easy access.

More kitchen organization tips by iRV2 members suggestions include:

“Use wall and cabinet door space to hang cooking utensils, measuring spoons, and knives. Shelf dividers help with canned food and spices.” – decodancer
“We use a white wire/rod organizer with wire shelves that holds plates saucers, and bowls stacked vertically.” – Clay L
“Pop off the dummy cover above the dishwasher and use it as a drawer front for a new drawer. Great for knives and cooking utensils. I also added a roll out in the far right lower cabinet to make access to a lot more storage space.” – bertman
“Go to a dollar store and buy an arm load of different size plastic baskets. They are great for storage and organization in the cabinets.” – scgator

Whatever you choose to keep your RV kitchen organized, keep in mind that it has to be easy to set up and tear down as you move from place to place or you’ll never use it.

The Most Useful RV Kitchen Accessories

1. rv paper towel holder.

I am a big fan of keeping my RV countertops as clean as I can. This gives me more room for food prep, and it is less I have to put away when it is time to drive somewhere. I like to either mount this RV paper towel holder to the underside of a cabinet, to the wall, or in a cupboard.

This RV paper towel holder mounts with just three screws and has something to prevent the paper towel from un-rolling which is very useful when you’re driving down the road. Plus, it will keep your countertop space free making it one of the best RV kitchen accessories.

You will want to keep your paper towels in a convenient location. We use paper towels a lot more than we do at home because we have limited space for linens, and we do laundry a lot less frequently. It is very convenient to use paper towels when RVing.

2. Collapsible Strainer

There are so many different collapsible motorhome kitchen accessories that make storing things so much easier. We use collapsible colanders in our RV, and it makes it so easy to drain noodles and wash fresh produce. The side handles make it easy to set on the sides of the sink.

If you are getting the collapsible dish rack, you might not need this strainer. You want to multi-purpose as much as you can to take up as little space as you can.

3. Collapsible Measuring Cups

Although I don’t do a lot of baking in our RV, I still do use our measuring cups quite often. Whether we are mixing up some macaroni and cheese or making a recipe from scratch, measuring cups do come in handy. These collapsible measuring cups nestle inside each other, saving you lots of room in your kitchen drawers making them an essential part of outfitting an RV kitchen.

3. Best Knife Set for RV

We avoid using a block of knives in our motorhome just in case we did get in a wreck, we would avoid having knives flying around the RV. I’ve also seen the magnetic strips for the knives and this worries me for the same reason.

We like this best knife set for RVs because we can safely store them in the kitchen drawers and don’t have to worry about getting cut as we are rummaging around in the drawer for something. They are really sharp and easy to clean. We have found this to be the best knife set for RVs and one of most used RV kitchen accessories.

4. RV Trash Can

One of our favorite accessories for outfitting an RV kitchen is an outside RV trash can . We spend a lot of time outside when we are RVing so it is convenient to have a garbage can outside. It also makes it so our tiny garbage can inside doesn’t fill up as fast.

The RV trash can is collapsible so it doesn’t take up a lot of room when we aren’t using it. It is pretty lightweight though so before putting a garbage bag in, it is a good idea to put something heavy like some rocks in the bottom so it doesn’t blow away.

5. Roasting Sticks

No RV kitchen supplies list is complete without adding roasting sticks. After a day of exploring, it is so fun to sit around the campfire and enjoy a delicious s’more. The extendable roasting sticks make them small to store and make it so my kids don’t have to get too close to the fire.

Just be sure to clean off the roasting sticks before putting them in the storage bag. This will keep your storage bag from getting sticky.

6. Stackable Mixing Bowls

Having mixing bowls that stack inside of each other is a great addition to your travel trailer kitchen supplies. Having good sturdy mixing bowls is essential for any kitchen and having them stack will save you a lot of space in your RV.

The airtight lids make the bowl double as a storage container for leftovers or meal prepping. You won’t need to have as much Tupperware with these mixing bowls.

7. Reusable Ice Cubes

With limited space in your RV fridge and freezer, reusable ice cubes are a great way to quickly make a beverage cold without having drinks take up precious space in your fridge. They are reusable and only take up a small space in your freezer compared to bagged ice.

They are also really nice to pack in your cooler or BougeRV fridge during your adventures.

8. Water Filter

When taking water out of your tanks, a water filter is a must.

We use two different water filters. The first water filter filters the water before it goes into our tank. This ensures all of the water going into our tanks is clean and filtered water. This is nice because it filters the water coming out of all of the faucets without having an individual filter under each sink.

This is the water filter we use in between our water source and our tank.

The second filter is under our kitchen sink. Most of our drinking and cooking water comes from this faucet and I wanted an extra filter just to make sure the water we were drinking was safe. It also protects you in the case that something contaminates your tanks.

This is the in-line water filter we use in our RV under the kitchen sink.

Having properly filtered water saves us a ton of money on buying bottled water and reduces our waste.

9. Collapsible Food Storage Containers

These collapsible storage containers are great for storing food inside and outside of the fridge. The rectangular shape helps to maximize storage in the fridge and freezer. It also helps lock out humidity to keep crackers and similar foods from going stale.

They collapse and store really easily in the cupboards when they aren’t being used.

The Best RV Kitchen Accessories – Appliances

I am very selective in the appliances that I bring in our RV because they are so big and bulky. Their extra size makes it hard to find places to store them. I only bring appliances that I use either daily or at least three times a week.

Along with the items I have on this list, think of what appliances you use all of the time at home and carefully consider if it is worth the space to bring them along. Appliances are an important part of outfitting an RV kitchen but only bring the essentials because they can be bulky.

10. Rice Cooker

A rice cooker isn’t included in most people’s RV kitchen supplies list, but our family eats rice a lot so I added it. We use a small one so it doesn’t take up as much room in our RV and it is really easy to wash.

If your family eats rice a lot, then it’s probably worth it to bring one. If you don’t, you can always cook it in a pot if you eat it occasionally.

11. Toaster

A toaster is another appliance that my family uses almost daily. We cook frozen waffles, bread, and bagels. It makes a quick and easy breakfast or an easy snack. Be sure to use a two-piece toaster rather than a four-piece toaster to save on space.

A small compact toaster should easily fit in the cupboards. We store ours in the cupboards above our dining room table. We use this Amazon Basic toaster and we are happy with the size and quality.

12. Instant Pot

An Instant Pot is another great small RV kitchen appliance. We like the Instant Pot better than a crockpot because it can cook food so much faster. This is especially important if you are running your generator to power the Instant Pot. If you are hooked up to electricity this isn’t as big of a deal.

The Instant Pot or slow cooker makes cooking camping crockpot meals so easy and the recipes always turn out so great. It is hard to beat some delicious butter Indian curry on a rainy day.

We take our 6-quart Instant Pot in the motorhome and it fits fine under the benches at our table. Unless you are feeding a lot of people, I think an 8-quart one would be a little excessive.

Another great thing about the Instant Pot is you can use it instead of your oven. Using the oven will heat up your RV so fast. Plus if your RV propane tanks are running low, you can use the electricity to power the Instant Pot.

13. Best RV Blender – NutriBullet Pro 900

If you use a blender frequently but don’t want to bring a big, bulky blender, consider taking a NutriBullet Pro 900 . It is a lot smaller but still gets the job done. It is perfect for smoothies, milkshakes, and blending up food for a recipe.

Having the best RV blender like the Nutribullet makes it a lot easier to eat healthy in an RV.

14. Portable Propane Grill

travel trailer kitchen drawers

Anytime you use your stove or oven in your RV, it will heat up your kitchen. Nothing is worse on a hot day of RVing than having to use the stove or oven and making your RV even warmer, especially if you aren’t using your air conditioner.

Having a portable propane grill you can use outside is nice because it gets you outside and won’t heat up your RV. If you’re planning on doing a lot of cooking outside, be sure to add some lights on your awning to make it a little easier to see outside and add some style to your campground.

15. Pots and Pans

One thing I have found with pots and pans is it is really easy to have too many. The other important thing to look for is having pots and pans that stack inside of each other. This will save you lots of storage room because pots and pans can be bulky.

I try to stick with having a couple of saucepans, a sauté pan, and a couple of frying pans. This seems to cover most of the recipes and things I cook in the RV pretty well while still conserving space.

Make sure to get pots and pans that are easy to wash. I really like the non-stick pans from Rachael Ray. They have a good balance between cost and value.

If you get the really cheap pans be careful you don’t leave them on the stove too long. We have had the handles on them melt before.

16. Cookie Sheet

A standard-size cookie sheet will not fit in an RV oven, but a half-sheet cookie sheet will fit with no problem. I just store my cookie sheet in the oven to save on space in other places. I just keep it in there until I’m ready to cook with it.

17. Cast Iron Skillet

A cast-iron skillet is very versatile making it one of the best small RV kitchen gadgets. Keep in mind that cast iron is quite a bit heavier than normal cookware. You can use it over a campfire, on your outdoor propane stove, or inside your stove. It is small enough, you can also use it in your oven.

18. Best RV Dinnerware

A lot of questions come up about the best RV dinnerware. We use mostly paper products but do keep some plastic plates and bowls in the RV as well. It is just a balance of how many dishes you want to wash or if you want to pay to use paper products.

Also, if you do not have hookups, you will want to use your water sparingly so paper dishes would be a better option. Also, we have visited some places where they request you use paper to use water more conservatively.

Our RV plastic dishes stack up really easily and they are easy to clean. It does help cut down on your garbage if you use plastic dishes. We love these and would highly recommend them as the best RV dinnerware.

Silverware for an RV

When it comes to finding silverware to use in our motorhome, we stick with something that we would use at home. Campervan kitchen utensils are pretty easy to wash but there may be times you want to use disposable as well. We keep both in our motorhome and switch back and forth.

RV Glass Dishes

If you insist on using glass RV dishes, Corelle dinnerware is commonly used by RVers. They seem to be the toughest and least likely to break.

How do you store dishes in an RV?

If you are storing glass dishes in an RV, the best way to prevent them from rattling is to put down the non-slip liner at the bottom of the cupboard. Then cut smaller pieces to put in between the individual plates and bowls.

Another option is to trade-off between glass and plastic. This will also prevent your RV dishes from rattling.

19. Campervan Kitchen Utensils

Finding a good set of campervan kitchen utensils is important. You need to look for a set that will cover all of your needs without taking up precious space in your RV kitchen. We love this wooden camper fan kitchen utensils set because it will cover all of your basic needs without a bunch of extras and is very durable.

We have used cheaper plastic ones and found they were very flimsy and we have even had some melt while using them on our propane stove. Wood campervan kitchen utensils are very durable and you won’t have to worry about them melting.

Best RV Kitchen Accessories for the Sink

20. over-the-sink cutting board.

You can either purchase or custom make an over-the-sink cutting board . This is huge because it adds more countertop space for preparing food and cooking. It still leaves you with one side of your sink open for running water and adds precious counter space.

Before buying RV sink covers, you will need to measure the dimensions of your sink to find the proper size. You can also just find a nice chunk of oak wood and cut one yourself if you can’t find the right dimensions.

This is one of the most important RV kitchen must-haves.

21. Sink Strainer

A sink strainer will make cleaning out your RV sink so much easier and will prevent clogging in your pipes, especially because you will not have a disposal. It prevents larger food items from going down the drain and makes getting the small pieces out of the sink much easier.

22. RV Dish Rack

A camper dish rack is a useful small RV kitchen gadget because you are going to be hand washing all of your camping dishes . There are a couple of different options.

The first is just a flat drying mat . This is nice because it takes up a lot less room in your RV when you aren’t using it. There aren’t compartments though for RV silverware, plates, etc.

travel trailer kitchen drawers

The second is a collapsible drying dish storage rack . This is a nice option because it has all of the compartments for drying individual dishes and it is collapsible, so it doesn’t take up as much room as a normal drying rack.

You can also use the collapsible RV dish rack to wash produce in which you can’t do with the flat plastic drying mat. The flat silicone drying mat can be used as a hot potholder. There are pros and cons to each one. You just have to decide which one you prefer.

23. Folding Table

Having an outdoor table will be especially helpful if you are going to be doing a lot of boondocking or staying in places besides designated campgrounds. Most campgrounds will have a picnic table you can use.

Having a table outside is nice to have a place to cook on your outdoor propane stove, a place for arts and crafts, playing games, and eating outside. This outdoor folding table folds up very small and won’t take up much room in your under RV storage.

How do you set up a kitchen in an RV?

Setting up small RV kitchens is a lot like setting up your house kitchen but with fewer cupboards, drawers, and counter space. Most RVs do not have a dishwasher so your dishes will be hand washed. You will want to avoid glass as much as possible because RVs are bouncy when you are driving.

Here is a full list of the travel trailer kitchen supplies we have in our motorhome. You can use this as a guide for stocking your camper kitchen accessories. Finding the RV cooking essentials you need really is not that hard.

What should I put in my RV kitchen?

In RV kitchens, your biggest constraint is space. Most RVs have only a few cupboards in the kitchen area. Depending on how you are organizing your RV, you can use storage under benches and perhaps under a bed for camper kitchen supplies.

When setting up your travel trailer kitchen, you will want to use items that don’t take up a lot of space and things that you use all of the time. You don’t want to bring anything that you will use once or twice a month. It just isn’t worth taking up space if it isn’t used often.

RV Kitchen Organization

Now that you have all of the camper kitchen accessories that you need, it is time to organize them in your kitchen. I sort everything into two piles – things I’m going to use multiple times or daily and then things that aren’t used as often.

I want quick and easy access to the most used items like plates, cups, bowls, silverware, etc. Items that I don’t use as often or are bulky I put in places that are a little harder to get to. For example, I keep my instant pot and rice cooker underneath the bench at my table. I wouldn’t want to store something under there that I need access to multiple times a day.

RV Fridge Organization

It is important to put a high priority on RV fridge organization because odds are you are going to have a lot less freezer and fridge space than at home. If your RV fridge organization is on point, you will have a lot more room.

The more you use your RV fridge, the better you will get at maximizing your space. You will also learn what you have room for and what you don’t. Having a meal plan will help you better know what you need in your fridge and what you don’t.

A great way to save space during RV fridge organization is to get rid of the packaging and use Ziploc bags or stackable containers. For example, as you eat blueberries, the food inside shrinks but the outside container does not. This is a waste of space.

There are also stackable bins that are helpful in storing awkward-shaped food and smaller items. We use a bin in our fridge for our string cheeses and sandwich meat. This helps secure it while we drive and it takes up a lot less room.

travel trailer kitchen drawers

Check Prices for Stackable Bins on Amazon Here!

Avoid filling your fridge too full, as tempting as it is. If your fridge is too full, the air inside will not be able to circulate as well. This leads to warmer temperatures and more food spoils.

How do I organize my RV cupboards?

After you have sorted your RV kitchen gadgets, it is time to put things in the cupboards and drawers. As you are out RVing you will adjust things to where you want them and that’s okay. Be sure to save cupboard room for RV kitchen supplies like oil, spices, and food.

Above my kitchen sink, I store plates, cups, bowls, water bottles, and sippy cups. We travel with a baby in an RV so we have a few baby supplies up there. I also store our paper plates and bowls up there. Utili

Under the sink, I store our garbage can, disposable bag holder, Tupperware, pots and pans, and cutting boards. I also keep our dish soap and scrubber brush here as well.

In the first drawer, I store our silverware – both disposable and reusable.

The next two drawers have our measuring cups, wooden spoons, whisk, scissors, and other miscellaneous camper kitchen accessories like an ice cream scoop, potato peeler, pizza cutter, etc.

In the fourth drawer, I store my hand towels, dish rags, and hot pads.

In the oven, I keep the cookie sheets.

Above my table, I keep our toaster, pyrex baking dish, and a container with Ziploc bags, foil, and press-and-seal.

The rest of my storage space in the kitchen is reserved for food.

Organizing Your RV Kitchen Essentials to Maximize Storage

There are ways to maximize the space available in your cupboards. If your cupboard is really tall and you aren’t utilizing the height of the space you have available, you can add in a removable shelf . You can also use RV kitchen cabinet organizers to help maximize space.

Cupboards surrounding the fridge tend to be really deep, making it hard to reach the space in the back. You can add sliding cabinet baskets to make it easier to reach the travel trailer kitchen accessories in the back.

What is the best thing to keep items from moving in cupboards in an RV?

To keep your RV kitchen appliances from moving around in your cupboards during travel, you will want to line your shelves with a non-slip shelf liner . Just measure the depth of your cupboards and find the right size roll. After you get it, cut the right size pieces and lay them down in the bottom of the cupboard before loading it.

This will prevent items from sliding and moving in cupboards in your RV.

Tips for Outfitting An RV Kitchen

Learning how to best organize your RV kitchen will take a few outings but things will work themselves into easy and convenient places. Here are a few tips for organizing everything you need in your RV kitchen.

Use It Often – Only Bring What You Need

Only bring items in your RV that you use often. If you have an appliance at home that you only use once a month, leave it home. It isn’t worth jamming your cupboards full and having to dig through everything. Only bring what you really need.

After a few trips in your travel trailer, take inventory of what you brought. Did you need everything you brought? Is there something you are missing? Don’t be afraid to take things out so there is a place for everything.

Making sure everything has a place will make your RV seem bigger.

Make Sure Everything Is Secured

When you are driving, the cupboard and drawers can come open. Make sure that your RV kitchen accessories are stored and secured safely in your RV. Make sure to always keep covers on sharp knives.

Avoid Glass Camper Kitchen Accessories

Try at all costs to avoid bringing glass. Glass is fragile and most likely will not fare well in a bumpy RV as you are driving down the road. If you do bring glass, make sure to store it properly when driving to avoid broken glass in your RV.

Prioritize Easy to Clean

Make sure everything you are bringing is easy to clean. You won’t want to take up valuable sink space with soaking dishes or something you cannot get clean. Only bringing items that are easy to clean will make hand-washing your dishes a much more pleasant experience.

Multi-Purpose Whenever Possible

Be creative about kitchen appliances or RV gadgets that can serve multiple purposes. You can use a strainer as a serving bowl. You could use a silicon drying dish as a hot pad on your table.

There are lots of ways to limit the number of things you need in your RV. Increasing the number of things you can do with each of your camper kitchen accessories will make your storage space go a long way.

Be Creative with Your Storage Space

Think about different areas of your RV where you can store some extra items. I store lots of things in my oven because I don’t use them as often. We store the cookie sheets in there as well as my bread, bagels, muffins, and croissants.

Our water and Gatorade as well as the Instant Pot and rice cooker are stored under one of the benches at our table. All of this gives me added space, so I don’t need to cram all of our RV kitchen accessories in a few cupboards.

Conclusion: Best RV Kitchen Accessories

We hope you have found this article helpful in determining the RV kitchen accessories you need in your camper.

Some people find cooking in an RV to be difficult but with a little bit of preparation and practice, we have found it isn’t much different than cooking at home. Except, for the dishwasher! We miss almost every day.

12 Best Travel Trailers With Rear Kitchens: 2024 Models

Sharing is caring!

As you know, we conduct thousands of RV tours and reviews each year. In this article, we will share our unique perspective on the best travel trailers with rear kitchens.

Travel trailers with rear kitchens, unlike the typical RV that has a kitchen somewhere around the middle of the RV, offer a dedicated kitchen space. Mid kitchens usually share a space with the living room which often means the kitchen is limited in space.

There are a variety of travel trailers with rear kitchens available on the market. These are often able to provide more kitchen space as well as many other benefits.

In this article, we’ll take a deep dive into rear kitchens and their advantages. Then, we’ll provide you with 12 of the best travel trailers with rear kitchens on the market right now.

Do Travel Trailers Have Rear Kitchens?

Most RVs have a mid-kitchen floor plan. In other words, the kitchen is found more or less in the middle of the RV, usually in the same space as the living area. But, that doesn’t mean all RV’s have that floorplan.

In fact, plenty of camper trailers have rear kitchens. While it’s not as common as a mid-kitchen floor plan, it’s not hard to find either. You won’t have to search too much if you’re looking for a travel trailer with a large kitchen in the rear.

They aren’t all large travel trailers, either. Some manufacturers offer rear kitchens in some pretty small travel trailers. Although these shorter models don’t have huge kitchens, it still opens up the floor plan.

Advantages Of Travel Trailers With Rear Kitchens

Advantages Of A Rear Kitchen RV

So we’ve seen that travel trailers can have rear kitchens. But what exactly is the advantage of a rear kitchen RV?

For one, it gives the kitchen a dedicated space. That means it often has more countertop space, resulting in a travel trailer with a larger kitchen.

Some rear kitchens also have a breakfast bar facing the living area. This gives you extra space to eat, watch TV, and relax.

Another advantage to a rear kitchen is that it gives you a larger, more open living space. This, combined with more kitchen space, is absolutely perfect if you enjoy entertaining or are traveling with a large group.

12 Best Travel Trailers With Rear Kitchens

As mentioned, rear kitchen travel trailers are more common than you perhaps thought. My opinion is that the rear kitchen floor plans have a more residential home feel. The dedicated kitchen space and living area well well-suited for most.

Do RV Kitchens Have Ovens?

Do RV Kitchens Have Ovens?

Having an oven in your kitchen is a huge convenience that expands your options for what you can cook. But if you get a travel trailer with a large rear kitchen, does that mean it will have an oven? The answer is, not always. While many travel trailers do include an oven, including many on our list, it doesn’t always come standard. However, it is often available as an optional add-on.

Keep in mind, though, that this isn’t likely to be as big as an oven in a traditional home. Instead, these are small ovens, which are best for cooking for 2 or 3 people.

Are Outdoor RV Kitchens Worth It?

Many RV’s have an outdoor kitchen, usually in addition to the interior kitchen. Outdoor kitchens can be a great feature, but you have to consider if it’s right for you.

You’ll sacrifice storage space in exchange if you get an RV with an outdoor kitchen. This could become an issue if you tend to travel with a lot of stuff. You’ll have to consider if it’s worth the trade-off. If you like to entertain and spend a lot of time outside or love tailgating, an outdoor kitchen can be a great option. But, if you love to cook elaborate meals, you likely won’t love using an outdoor kitchen, which is small and usually limited to just a mini fridge, a griddle, and a sink.

Final Thoughts About Travel Trailers With Rear Kitchens

A travel trailer with a large rear kitchen will provide you with more counter space and more room to cook, as well as provide more separation between the kitchen and living areas.

While they’re not as common as mid-RV kitchens, there are still plenty of great options, including the ones on our list. Once you’re in your new travel trailer with its spacious rear kitchen, you’ll be able to cook better than ever!

Kitchen drawers vs cabinets - which should you choose?

W hether you’re planning an imminent kitchen design or dreaming of your perfect space, deciding on drawers vs cabinets for your cooking space will be an essential part of the kitchen renovation process.

‘The amount and type of storage in your kitchen is one of the most crucial elements of the design and should be considered right from the start so that the kitchen will fulfil all your needs from the get-go,’ says Sinead Trainor, kitchen category manager at LochAnna Kitchens . ‘There’s little point in having a beautiful kitchen that’s the envy of your friends if it doesn’t work for you in everyday use.’

And, if you’ve found yourself asking, which is better – drawers or cabinets – we’ve consulted the experts to get a definitive answer, which should help you to better plan out your kitchen layout going forward.

Drawers vs cabinets - which is best for your kitchen?

When it comes to opting for drawers vs cabinets, or vice versa, it may come down to personal preference. But there are definite pros and cons to both.

‘Cabinets have always been the go-to for kitchen design, but this has changed in recent years as the benefits that drawers offer have become more widely known,’ suggests Richard Davonport, nanaging director at Davonport Kitchens .

‘There are also several things to consider, particularly if you are aiming to make your kitchen more inclusive for different ages and abilities in your family,’ Vaila Mossrion , RIBA, Stannah’s inclusive design expert, outlines. ‘To maximise accessibility, and to help make more of the things in your kitchen more conveniently located, the ideal is to try to minimise the amount of bending or crouching down or stretching up that you have to do.’

Keep reading to see which options could work best for you and your kitchen .

Drawer pros

1. they provide easier access.

‘As drawers can fully extend out, contents are easier to reach and items don't get lost in the back,’ Jamie Robinson, interiors expert and installation manager at Value Doors , affirms. You also don’t need to bend or kneel down to get access to items, as you might with a cabinet. Because of this, drawers can be more beneficial to those with mobility issues or disabilities.

‘Unlike traditional cabinets, drawers allow you to effortlessly reach items, even those stored at the back, without the need to bend down or rummage through,’ Brani Hadzhi, Head of Design at Multiliving by Scavolini , remarks.

‘This not only saves you time and effort but also eliminates the problem of unused space typically found in the back of cabinets. By maximising accessibility, drawers effectively increase the overall storage capacity of your kitchen.’

2. Better for storing smaller items

‘Kitchen drawers can be designed with organisers of various depths, enabling you to store different items in separate compartments,’ Brani adds. ‘For instance, you can use shallow drawers to neatly arrange your cutlery, ensuring everything is in its rightful place.’

Drawer dividers and cutlery storage trays can be especially helpful for keeping drawers organised.

3. Can be better for storing heavy items

‘We tend to see drawers being used under hobs or on kitchen islands, as they make a fantastic storage option when it comes to heavy duty items such as pans,’ Richard asserts. ‘Cooking equipment – such as saucepans, plates, and casseroles dishes – are better suited to being stored in oversized drawers as it makes it much easier to access and find what you need.’

‘Bespoke kitchens also offer the additional option of items such as plate dividers, so that each size and type of plate has a space and won’t move around as drawers are opened,’ he continues.

You can also achieve this sort of organisation on a budget by utilising something like a pegboard in your drawer, to allow you to use dowels to separate each stack of plates. Or, you purchase a ready made plate divider to insert into your drawer or drawers.

Drawer cons

1. more difficult to store small appliances.

Unfortunately, drawers aren’t ideal if you plan on storing small appliances, such as stand mixers and coffee machines , or even bottles and tall food storage containers. The same can be said for other items that may be stored in your kitchen, such as vases.

2. Can look messy without proper organisation

While drawer dividers can certainly come in handy and help you to keep everything from your utensils and cutlery to baking essentials organised, ‘without appropriate organisation and maintenance, drawers may become disordered, leading to a cluttered and messy kitchen,’ Jen Nash, head of design at Magnet comments.

You certainly need to keep on top of the organisation as you transfer your clean plates, pots, pans and utensils back into your drawers after you’ve washed them.

3. Some drawers can sag

Depending on the material that your drawers are made from, heavy items or if any liquid has been spilled onto them, can cause the drawers to sag. While this is unlikely with quality drawers, cheaper MDF-style or flat-pack drawers can warp under the weight or pressure. If you’re designing your kitchen with longevity in mind, this is something to keep in mind.

4. It’s not possible to have drawers in corner units

In making the most of our kitchen layouts, many of us will have corner units. Annoyingly these can be trickier to utilise to their fullest, compared to other units. ‘It’s not possible to have drawers in corner units,’ Symphony’s design manager, Josie Medved, confirms.

This is because there isn’t the space or room for a drawer to pull out. So, if you have several corner units in your kitchen, however big or small, these will need to remain as cabinets. But that’s not to say that you can’t add shelves or other storage solutions.

5. Drawers are more expensive than cabinets

Kitchen drawers are typically ‘more expensive due to additional hardware and mechanisms for smooth operation,’ Sinead explains. ‘The additional craftsmanship and materials can set it at a higher price point,’ too, Looeeze Grossman, founder and CEO of The Used Kitchen Company , concurs.

While there is no typical price for a single drawer unit, particularly if you choose a bespoke or custom design, the most affordable kitchen drawer unit that we found was in the mid-hundreds. A kitchen cabinet unit, on the other hand, can start from as low as around £50.

Cabinet pros

1. better for storing large, tall items.

‘Cupboards are better for large, tall items, for example. food mixers, tall containers, vases, pressure cookers, etc.’ says Josie. They’re also ‘better for storing small appliances, especially bi-fold dresser units which sit on the worktop,’ making them ‘ideal for coffee makers, toasters etc.’ So, if you’re looking to create your dream coffee station , a cabinet would work better for this.

2. You can add shelves

A cabinet doesn’t simply have to be one big cavernous space. You can use as many or as few shelves as you need to accommodate everything from glassware and mugs to food. Because of this, it also makes cabinets the ideal choice for pantry areas.

3. More affordable than drawers

If you’re in the process of building your dream kitchen , you may imagine that money will be no object. However, with the cost of living crisis continuing twinned with the rise in the cost of materials and labour, many of us will be keeping an eye on our spending. And cabinets tend to be more affordable than drawer units.

Cabinet cons

1. cabinets can be inaccessible.

It’s sometimes rather tricky to find or retrieve items that are at the very back of a base unit cabinet. ‘How many of us have all found those things at the back of the kitchen cupboard that we forgot we even had?’ Vaila asks. ‘Kitchen cupboards are quite deep (normally about 60cm/2ft) and therefore it’s notoriously difficult to get to the things at the back without pulling everything else out first, even when you have been practising your squats.’

2. Base cabinets can cause back strain

You will also have to bend down or get onto your knees, in some cases, to reach the very back of a base unit cabinet. ‘If you prefer the look of a cupboard door, or are dealing with a corner situation, there are lots of different pullout basket solutions that can be fitted within the unit to give the appearance of a cupboard, with the functionality of a drawer,’ Vaila adds. But this will come at an additional cost.

Final verdict

‘There are many debates about whether to pick drawers or cabinet doors for your kitchen design; however, it very much depends on the space as both can work in beautiful ways,’ suggests William Durrant, owner of Herringbone Kitchens .

‘A kitchen ideally should include a combination of both drawers and cabinets to maximise storage and accessibility,’ Jamie concurs.

‘When it comes to successful storage, a balance of drawers and cabinets is key,’ according to Tom Howley ’s creative director, Tom Howley. By creating ‘defined areas for prepping, cooking, serving, and cleanup,’ this creates a cohesive and much more functional kitchen.

‘This can be achieved by grouping and positioning relevant items accordingly – pots, pans, and utensils belong next to the hob, glassware can be organised in kitchen island drawers, and linens and dishes stay in cabinets nearest to the dining table,’ he adds.

Are kitchen drawers better than cupboards?

‘Drawers are being used more than ever in kitchens because they’re easy to open and give you better access to your pots and pans. However, drawers are only handy for the base units and don’t really work as corner units. So a mix of drawers and cupboards works best,’ explains Penelope Jacobs, kitchen design expert at MyJobQuote.co.uk .

What to do if your kitchen has no drawers

If you’ve just moved into a new home and a kitchen renovation won’t be on the cards for a while, or you’re renting, you may have thought that there isn’t much you can do if there are no drawers. But this isn’t the case.

‘If your kitchen lacks drawers, consider alternative storage solutions like freestanding storage units, cupboard organisers or pull-out cabinet trays,’ says Jen. ‘By implementing these solutions, you can optimise the available space in your kitchen and create a more organised and functional space without drawers.’

‘Alternatively, you can use carousel and swivel-out shelves to make things easier to access,’ Penelope adds.

Are kitchen drawers more expensive than cabinets?

‘Typically, kitchen drawers are more expensive than cabinets due to their intricate mechanics and demanding installation process; drawers require additional mechanical components such as slides and runners,’ Jen explains. ‘Additionally, installing drawers can be more labour-intensive as the fitting process requires more precision than fitting cabinets.’

Of course, ‘the cost of drawers versus cabinets varies based on materials, design, and size,’ Sinead declares.

History of stary oskol.

In 1300, there was a village called Ugly on the the territory of the present city. Today, it is one of the districts of Stary Oskol. At that time, the village was part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and was a border crossing point on the border with the Golden Horde.

The settlement of Oskol was founded by Russian Tsar Fyodor Ioanovich’s order (Ivan’s the Terrible son) to protect the southern borders of the Russian kingdom in 1593. The bulk of the population were peasants and the military.

In 1617, the town was burned by the Poles. In 1625, 1642 and 1677, the Crimean Tatars approached Stary Oskol, but could not capture it. The town was renamed Stary Oskol (meaning Old Oskol) in 1655, when the town of Tsaryov-Alexeyev, located down the river, was renamed Novy Oskol (New Oskol). Fortifications of the town existed until the 18th century.

More Historical Facts…

Gradually, Stary Oskol turned into peaceful, commercial and merchant town - the center of an agricultural district. Industrial production was represented mainly by enterprises on processing agricultural products.

In 1780, the town got its coat of arms. In 1784, Stary Oskol like most Russian towns of that time was rebuilt according to a new plan signed by Empress Catherine II. A large number of brick houses were built, mostly two-story buildings. The historic center of Stary Oskol has been preserved to our time.

In the second half of the 19th century, the town had a wide network of schools, libraries, reading rooms, printing, secondary schools. In 1894, construction of the railway began, trade and industry began to develop rapidly.

Until the 1930s, there were eleven Orthodox churches in Stary Oskol. During the Second World War, Stary Oskol was occupied by the Germans from July 2, 1942 to February 5, 1943. In 1954, the city became part of the newly formed Belgorod region.

In the late 1960s - early 1970s, in connection with the active development of the Kursk Magnetic Anomaly (the most powerful iron ore basin in the world), Stary Oskol became a major center of iron and steel industry.

Stary Oskol was declared a city of three top-priority Komsomol construction projects. The largest enterprises: Lebedinsky Mining and Processing Plant, Stoilensky Mining and Processing Plant, Oskolsky Electrometallurgical Plant became not only the city-forming enterprises, but also the largest industrial enterprises of the country. Stary Oskol experienced a new birth.

Today, Stary Oskol is a rapidly developing city, one of the leading mining and metallurgical centers of Russia.
