Country music‘s Alan Jackson is hanging up his cowboy hat, announcing his final tour dates while his health is “getting worse.”
“I’ve been touring for over 30 years, you know, played everywhere in the country and parts of the world and had a wonderful career,” he said in a video posted on X, announcing the final dates of his Last Call: One More for the Road farewell tour.
The “Chattahoochee” singer, 65, cited a desire to spend more time with family — in particular, his three daughters and his grandchildren — as he enters his “twilight years.”
“I enjoy spending more time at home and don’t want to be away like I had to be in my younger days,” he said. “I think it’s just getting time to start thinking about hanging it up full time.”
Alan Jackson postpones upcoming weekend concerts to deal with ‘health issues’
‘I hoped I’d be able to be there; I hate to disappoint my fans,’ Jackson said of postponing a couple of upcoming weekend shows.
Oct. 5, 2022
Another factor in Jackson’s decision was his diagnosis with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, a genetic neurological condition that affects muscle control in the feet and hands. The condition is not fatal but can severely restrict mobility, according to the Cleveland Clinic . The singer has had to postpone shows in order to deal with related health issues , notably halting a multi-show outing in 2022 to deal with “health issues” stemming from the disease.
“Most of my fans know I have a degenerative health condition that affects my legs and arms and my mobility,” the two-time Grammy winner explained in this week’s video. “And it’s getting worse.”
“It makes me more uncomfortable on stage and I just have a hard time. I just want to think about maybe calling it quits before I’m unable to do the job like I want to,” he concluded.
Review: Alan Jackson remembers the good times at Nokia Theatre
Implicit in the name of Alan Jackson’s current road show, the Keepin’ It Country tour, is the idea that this veteran country star is engaged in some resistance.
Feb. 28, 2015
The Country Music Hall of Fame member revealed his diagnosis in a 2021 interview on “ Today ,” explaining that he decided to make the information public because it was beginning to visibly affect his performances.
“I just wanted the fans and the public to know if they’ve come to see me in the last few years or if they come to see me in the future if I play anymore, what’s going on,” he told co-host Jenna Bush Hager.
“In some ways, [disclosing the condition is] a relief because I was starting to get so self-conscious up there, about stumbling around,” he said. “And it just made me nervous up there trying to keep my balance. And I look pitiful. So I think it’ll be good for me now to get it out in the open, and so if anybody’s curious why I don’t walk right, that’s why.”
At the time, the entertainer said he had no plans to stop touring but that his health condition might affect his availability.
Jackson’s final shows will be played from August to May in Boston; Grand Rapids, Mich.; Fayetteville, Ark.; Kansas City, Mo.; Salt Lake City; Oklahoma City; Fort Worth, Texas; Orlando and Tampa, Fla., and Milwaukee. Tickets went on sale Friday.

Alan Jackson Announces 2024-2025 Last Call: One More for the Road Tour Dates: 'You Don't Want to Miss!'
"Some of the best times are had right at last call, and this is one last call that you don't want to miss!" the country superstar shared of what could be his final tour return

- Alan Jackson has revealed more dates for his Last Call: One More For the Road tour
- The new round of dates may mark the country superstar's final time appearing live in concert
- The singer told fans he plans to treat them to his 30+ year catalog full of hits
Alan Jackson is heading back on the road for what could be his final farewell live.
On Thursday, May 30, the country superstar, 65, announced the continuation of his Last Call: One More For the Road tour — which initially played to sold-out crowds coast-to-coast in 2022 — with new dates scheduled in U.S. arenas in the summer of 2024 through 2025. News of the singer’s “one last good time” on stage is said to be his final appearance in concert.
“Some of the best times are had right at last call, and this is one last call that you don’t want to miss!” Jackson shared in an announcement.
The Country Music Hall of Famer and dad of three assured fans that he’ll make his upcoming performances ones to remember by treating them to over 30 years of hits that have “been the soundtrack of their lives,” according to a press release.
“Fans know when they come to my shows, they’re going to hear the songs that made me who I am – the ones they love,” said Jackson, including “Chattahoochee” and “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere.”
The three-time CMA entertainer of the year winner is set to resume his tour in Boston on Aug. 2 before hitting cities like Salt Lake City, Oklahoma City, Milwaukee and more.
“I’ve been touring for over 30 years – my daughters are all grown, we have one grandchild and one on the way…and I’m enjoying spending more time at home,” Jackson shared in a press statement. “But my fans always show up to have a good time, and I’m going to give them the best show I can for this Last Call.”

Jackson’s tour announcement arrives nearly three years after he revealed that he’d been living with the degenerative nerve condition Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease for a decade, which he said affected his ability to walk and perform live.
“I've been reluctant to talk about this publicly and to my fans, but it's been a while, and it's starting to affect my performance on stage a little bit where I don't feel comfortable," the Drive country artist said of his diagnosis in a September 2021 TODAY interview. "I just wanted the fans and the public to know if they've come to see me in the last few years or if they come to see me in the future if I play anymore, what's going on."
In February 2023, Jackson, who hasn’t released new music since 2021, teased that he saw a new release in his future being asked about another potential album. "Well, yes. I would hope so,” he said on the podcast In Joy Life with Mattie Jackson . “I mean, I may not have toured much, but like I said, the creative part jumps out every now and then.”
“I'm always scribbling down ideas and thinking about melodies,” the singer added, “and I feel like there'll be some more music to come, yes."

Alan Jackson Announces 10-Stop Farewell Tour Starting in August
by Clayton Edwards May 30, 2024, 10:59 am
Country Music Hall of Famer Alan Jackson has been touring for more than 30 years. Now, though, a degenerative nerve disorder is forcing him to get off the road for good. He kicked off his Last Call: One More for the Road Tour in 2022, giving his fans one last chance to see him live. Now, he’s looking to give more lucky fans that opportunity. The final leg of his farewell tour will kick off this summer.
Videos by American Songwriter
In 2021, Jackson revealed that he received a diagnosis of Charcot Marie-Tooth Disorder. It’s a hereditary degenerative nerve condition that affects nerves in the extremities and the sensory and motor nerves. In short, it inhibits an individual’s control over their hands, arms, legs, and feet. As a result, the condition has forced Jackson into retirement.

Knowing that the forthcoming ten dates will be some of his last, Jackson plans to leave it all on the stage for his fans. “Fans know when they come to my shows, they’re going to hear the songs that made me who I am—the ones they love,” Jackson said in a statement. “I’ve been touring more over 30 years—my daughters are all grown, we have one grandchild and one on the way, and I’m enjoying spending more time at home,” he added. “But my fans always show up to have a good time, and I’m going to give them the best show I can for this Last Call.”

Alan Jackson Makes ‘Last Call’ With Headlining 2022 Tour
By Jon Freeman
Jon Freeman
Alan Jackson is calling for one more celebratory round with his new headlining tour Last Call: One More for the Road Tour, which gets underway in June.
Spanning 16 dates in total, the trek launches June 24 in Biloxi, Mississippi, and runs all the way to its Oct. 8 finish in Pittsburgh. Along the way, the “ Chattahoochee ” singer will visit Kansas City, St. Paul, and Austin. The closest he’ll get to Nashville is Knoxville’s Thompson-Boling Arena or Lexington’s Rupp Arena, but he did play a Music City gig at Bridgestone arena during a brief tour last October. Most dates for this tour will go on sale March 18.
The One More for the Road Tour is Jackson’s first outing since revealing his diagnosis with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disorder, a degenerative nerve disease that affects balance and movement through the arms and legs. A release announcing the tour doesn’t explicitly say it will be Jackson’s last tour before retiring, but there’s a hint of finality in the name of the tour and Jackson’s provided statement.
“I’ve always admired my heroes like George Jones, Merle Haggard, Loretta Lynn, and Charley Pride, who just played as much as they wanted to, as long as they could,” Jackson said. “I’ve always thought I’d like to do that, and I’d like to as long as my health will allow. I’ll try to do as much as I can, but if I’m comin’ your way, come see me.”

Country music legend Alan Jackson expanded on his decision to retire and his health struggles just days after announcing his “Last Call: One More for the Road” farewell tour in late May.
Jackson, 65, will play his final 10 tour dates across the U.S. from August to May 2025. After that, the two-time Grammy Award winner said he wants to enjoy his “twilight years” with his family at home.
“I’ve been touring for over 30 years, you know, played everywhere in the country and parts of the world and had a wonderful career,” Jackson said in a video posted to X . The video began with a question, “What makes now the time?”. “I’m getting into my twilight years, and all my daughters are grown, and I got one grandchild and one on the way. (I) enjoy spending more time at home, and don’t want to be away like I had to be in my younger days, and I don’t tour as much now as I did 10 years ago. I think it’s just getting time to start thinking about hanging it up full-time.”
Jackson also mentioned his battles with Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease (CMT), a chronic nerve disease that affects peripheral nerves outside the brain and spinal cord while also affecting muscle control in feet and hands, according to the Cleveland Clinic . He first revealed his CMT diagnosis during an interview on “Today” in September 2021. While there’s no cure for CMT, treatments include physical therapy, leg braces, special footwear, surgery and/or medications for symptoms.
“Most of my fans know I have a degenerative health condition that affects my legs and arms and my mobility that I got from my daddy and it’s getting worse,” Jackson said in the video. “So, it makes me more uncomfortable on stage and I just have a hard time. I just want to think about maybe calling it quits before I’m unable to do the job like I want to.”
