When Rosie Met Tommy
For this final episode of Season One of Meeting Tom Cruise, Jeff is thinking about the importance of underwear in the Cruise filmography. We’re sorry. We answer the question, “What have you learned this season?” (Hint: We have learned nothing this season.) And as our guest, we have the woman who broke open the doors for Public Displays of Tom Cruise Affection; the woman who turned Meeting Tom Cruise into an art form; the woman who will always and forever know him simply as Tommy. We are honored, thrilled – and clearly a little giddy – to have with us: the great Rosie O’Donnell. Where’s Season 2?
Listened to each show as it came out during season 1 and absolutely loved it. But season 2 never came… why? Would have been absolutely perfect last year, running alongside Top Gun Mavericks massive success. We need to hear from these guys again, it’s been a huge Tom Cruise year. And there has to be a proper end to this story, them meeting Tom Cruise.
Now Tom Cruise Obsessed!
Randomly found this podcast on a roadtrip through Norway, and it saved the trip! This trio is hilarious! Can’t say I was a diehard TC fan before, but now I’m manifesting the moment I finally meet him too. Also… the halo jump. Wow. He. Is. The. Man!!!
Fun but a bit much
The guest stories about tom are typically fun and interesting and worth the listen. The hosts can be overbearing. I get the fandom and it’s point surrounding the podcast and the tom obsession but the frantic school girl vibe turned to 11 every second does get old.

The Q&A with Jeff Goldsmith
Friday, july 31, 2015, tom cruise & christopher mcquarrie - mission impossible: rogue nation q&a.
Tom Cruise asks NASA astronaut Victor Glover all about spaceflight (video)
The "Mission: Impossible" and "Top Gun" star appears to be prepping for his own voyage to space in 2024.
"Top Gun" star Tom Cruise and NASA astronaut Victor Glover bonded virtually over fast planes and SpaceX spaceships in a wide-ranging conversation about astronaut training.
NASA's Johnson Space Flight Center posted the hour-long conversation on YouTube on Friday (Jan. 28), rebroadcasting a November 2021 conversation during the World Extreme Medicine conference.
Cruise is the one asking most of the questions, as he appears to be mentally preparing himself for his own spaceflight in a few years, during which he will be the first Hollywood star to go to space for real with a visit to the International Space Station.

"I have a few questions for you, if you don't mind," Cruise says near the beginning of the conversation, encouraging Glover right away to "call me Tom."
Tom Cruise's upcoming unnamed space movie , co-produced by U.K.-based Space Entertainment Enterprise, may also benefit from a newly announced inflatable space station module with a production studio commissioned from Houston-based Axiom Space .
Meanwhile, for Glover, it was a chance to showcase astronaut training along with what it's really like to be on a SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft. Glover flew on the first operational SpaceX taxi for astronauts, a mission known as Crew-1 , that landed in May 2021 after 167 days in space.

"The Dragon has a touchscreen. The displays are also where the controls are. That's quite different than flying an aircraft with a stick and a throttle," Glover said, admitting he was skeptical at first about the design.
"I was like, 'I don't know guys, I need my interceptors. I need something to move around," Glover, who is also a U.S. Navy Captain with more than 3,000 flight hours of experience, recalled of his reaction. "But as I learned more about what the vehicle does, and what its purpose was, the touchscreen actually was wonderful. It worked great."
Glover shared some anecdotes about "pulling Gs," or experiencing several times the force of Earth's gravity , in both fighter jets and aircraft.
"In the fighter, the Gs go from your head to your toe," he explained to Cruise, "and that's why we practice these specific maneuvers to keep blood flow to your brain. You stay conscious and you don't gray out or blackout, but the Gs on a rocket launch goes into your chest. And so you naturally can can sustain more Gs in that direction."
Cruise is a certified pilot himself, with many fans of the action star likely already aware that he did many of the helicopter stunts in 2018's "Mission Impossible: Fallout," according to Screen Rant .
While he sat in the passenger seat of an F-14 during the blockbuster 1986 hit "Top Gun," Cruise recalled in the interview with Glover briefly pulling 9.5 Gs, or 9.5 times the force of Earth's gravity. But after discussing G-forces during launch (the Falcon 9 forced about 4 Gs on the crew for a few minutes), Cruise then asked Glover what he would consider the most demanding part of the mission.
Glover said it depends on how you frame the question, whether it is a short-term thing or a long-term thing, but he would pick the four spacewalks he performed during his mission .
"You're moving around in a suit that can weigh, with your body, as much as 1,000 pounds [450 kilograms] — and you very rarely use your legs," Glovers aid. "It's like running two marathons, but on your hands the whole time. Your hands and fingers are very sore when you're done with this."
Cruise added that he's been fitted for a spacesuit, but he didn't mention if his upcoming mission would include a spacewalk . No non-professional astronaut has been on a spacewalk, although Cruise fans might bet that he would try — given he has done other high-profile stunts for movies like actually climbing the massive Burj Khalifa tower in Dubai for 2011's "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol."
In the conversation, however, Cruise shifted to asking Glover about countermeasures the astronauts usually take in space, which commonly includes things like a couple of hours of cardiovascular and weightlifting exercise daily. Astronauts also get some "time off" to pursue hobbies and enjoy festive meals with their crewmates, among other mental health items.
Cruise also asked if Glover felt any weaker across his four spacewalks, given he was losing bone mass in space , as is usual for long-duration space missions. Glover said no, and noted he actually gained a little muscle mass thanks to regular exercise with the space station's Advanced Exercise Resistive Device that uses pistons for weightlifting.
"By the time we went out the door," Glover explained, "I felt stronger, actually, over my mission. [But] I did lose a little bit of bone mass. I lost about 2% of my bone mass, and they [doctors] say I'll have that recovered in about a year."
Most of the conversation, in fact, covered health in space . The two pilots go over everything from how to deal with routine itches in your spacesuit, the menu items astronauts get to pick, readjusting to Earth's gravity after splashdown, and smaller changes in how the body functions after a long period of time in space. (When Cruise heard that basic astronaut training does not include skydiving, Cruise promised Glover that the two of them would jump out a plane together sometime.)
They also chatted about the view from space. Glover said during his time in the capsule on the way to the ISS, he did have to stay focused on the mission. But he did have some time to relax and take in the views as he took off his spacesuit, went to the bathroom and otherwise made himself comfortable for the 27-hour journey to the station.
"I went to the to the window and looked out," Glover recalled, adding that he was at first surprised to see the Earth was sideways due to the orientation of the spacecraft. "I felt like I was underneath the Earth," he added. "I was just amazed at the view, how much detail that I could see ... so I just grabbed my iPad, and I started recording a video. It wasn't that I wanted to share the imagery with people. I wanted to capture the feeling that I was just awestruck."
We also learned about how the space station smells , as long as you're not right beside the toilet. "It smells very much like a factory; it has this machine sterile metallic quality to it, and it very much smells like a workspace," Glover said. "You know, when you walk into a hospital, you sense that? Yeah, it smells like a hospital, it's got this antiseptic, germ-free quality."
Toward the conversation's end, Cruise told Glover that he was conducting the conversation from England's Duxford Aerodrome, south of Cambridge. "This is a Spitfire behind me right here," he said, referring to a single-seater British warplane used during World War II.

"We're flying a bunch of stuff," he added, saying it was in support of the new movie "Top Gun: Maverick," currently expected to be released in May 2022. "We're gonna be flying this thing when I get off here," Cruise said of the Spitfire. "We're gonna go fly some Spitfires [and we've] got a Mustang here, too."
Cruise also promised Glover a ride in the Mustang sometime, which Glover said was always a "bucket list" item for him as he has not yet had the opportunity to fly that aircraft type. "You had me at hello," Glover joked. "Yes, sign me up."

Tom Cruise Doesn’t Change His Narrative for Anything, Not Even Cannes

Tom Cruise would rather be boring than lose control of an interview. He’s learned from his aberrations, whether jumping the couch or advising people not to take prescription drugs. And so, his participation in a May 18 MasterClass Conversation at Cannes could have been an extension of Paramount’s 68-page press kit for “ Top Gun: Maverick ,” which basically shoves aside director Joseph Kosinski to promote the film’s almighty producer (with lip service to Jerry Bruckheimer).
Tom Cruise waited until they could do it right. Tom Cruise labored for years figuring out the right script (maybe with some help from mssrs. Christopher McQuarrie, Eric Warren Singer, and Ehren Kruger?), as well as the best time and place to execute. (By the way, the movie is a riveting, taut, and hugely entertaining E-ride.)
And of course, Cruise insisted that the studio wait to release the movie in theaters. The sole breakthrough moment in French journalist Didier Allouch’s valiant attempt to open up his Cannes quarry was a set-up for a message Cruise is happy to promote: The movie waited two years to open because his films will only play in theaters. No streaming allowed! “They wouldn’t be able to do that,” he said. “That was not going to happen, no.” (Huge applause.)
In fact, some box office analysts believe Paramount waited too long to release its golden egg. Yes, it will score somewhere between $85 million and $100 million domestic on its May 24 opening weekend, but it’s possible that the film would have had no competition at all back at Thanksgiving. Now it has “Jurassic World Dominion” coming on June 8.
The Cruise sizzle reel reminded us of his range. “Risky Business.” “Interview with a Vampire.” “Days of Thunder.” “Vanilla Sky.” “War of the Worlds.” “Collateral.” “A Few Good Men.” “Valkyrie.” “The Last Samurai.” “Edge of Tomorrow.” And there’s his three Oscar-nominated movies: “Born on the Fourth of July,” “Jerry Maguire,” and “Magnolia.” But the interview was dull as dishwater. Given the chance to discuss his heartbreaking bedside scene with his dying father (Jason Robards) in “Magnolia,” Cruise preferred to take credit for inventing the character and showing Paul Thomas Anderson his creation for the first time on a stage.
Over the 41 years since his breakout in “Taps,” the guy gives the same interview every time. Don’t stop me if you’ve heard this before: As a child of four, he dreamed of flying airplanes and making movies; he is grateful to be able to do both. He liked climbing to the tops of trees in the wind.
When he was a little older, he tried to parachute off the roof with a sheet and somehow arose unharmed. He cut grass, shoveled snow, sold holiday cards for money to share with his family and to buy movie tickets. He tried to learn everything he could about how movies were made, from the agencies and marketers to every crew department. Directors like Harold Becker let him watch rushes and explained performances and lenses. Cruise never forgot how to watch his performance objectively, like he was the audience. And as he pursued shooting films all over the world, he studied what made different audiences laugh and cry.
“The derivation of art is skill,” he said. “I looked it up. It’s skill. Because my goals were: How do I be skillful in many, many things? I’ve grown up on movie sets in writers rooms and editing rooms — I’ve spent my life, and it’s an incredible, very privileged life — because it’s something that I’ve wanted to do. And I’ve always loved an audience, and I make my movies for audiences. Because I am an audience first and foremost. It is a different skill writing a movie than something for television, in the way of of how to shoot and how to communicate. Just like theater is different than cinema. It’s a whole different skill set.”
While he may suggest that he still doesn’t know everything about how a movie is made, he takes singing and dancing lessons and constantly adds to his skill set, whether it’s speeding motorcycles, airplanes, or race cars. He loves danger, and is prepared when he does his “Mission Impossible” stunts, but is also scared. “You know, no one asks Gene Kelly, why do you dance?” he said. “If I do a musical I want to sing, I want to dance. And I want to see how I can do it. You got to figure out it’s not just doing it. It’s how is it part of the story? How do we invest the audience in that? It’s always better to go for it, it’s always better to try than to tend to not do it. It’s always better to ask the question, and don’t be afraid.”
What does Tom Cruise have to teach us? I suppose it’s that working hard, taking chances, and learning your craft can take you a long way. Maybe all those rehearsals and do-overs on Stanley Kubrick’s “Eyes Wide Shut” were worth it. “You just find it and you just know what is right,” he said. “You’re preparing for something on camera that is immediate, that is alive. I don’t want people to see the work behind it.”
Tom, we have that in common: I’d rather watch a “Top Gun” movie than listen to you talk about it.

Glen Powell Says Tom Cruise Once Pretended to Lose Control of Their Helicopter as a Prank
"I was like, ‘Am I about to be the unnamed guy that dies with Tom in a smoking hole in the middle of London?' " Glen Powell joked
Han Myung-Gu/Getty
Glen Powell might not be getting on a helicopter with Tom Cruise again anytime soon.
In an interview for British GQ Hype , the 35-year-old Hit Man actor revealed that Cruise, 61, once pretended to lose control of a helicopter while piloting it, with Powell as his passenger.
According to the outlet, the prank occurred when the two were flying back to London after filming reshoots for Top Gun: Maverick at Pinewood Studios, about 18 miles outside of the English capital city.
"Tom goes, 'Oh no, oh no,’ and he starts dropping the helicopter over London," Powell recalled of Cruise's joke stunt. "I was like, ‘Am I about to be the unnamed guy that dies with Tom in a smoking hole in the middle of London?' "

Powell also talked about having a pilot's license of his own in the GQ interview, joking, "I thought I could be Tom Cruise."
“He has a helicopter and he’s flying actual jets. If I have to pop over to New York or Texas, in this SR-22, it’ll take me forever," added the Scream Queens alum.
Powell played Lt. Jake "Hangman" Seresin in 2022's Maverick , a long-awaited sequel to Cruise's 1986 blockbuster hit Top Gun . The more recent film saw Cruise reprise his role as Navy officer Pete "Maverick" Mitchell more than three decades after the first movie's release.
Maverick follows Cruise's title character as he trains a new generation of pilots, including Powell's character and Miles Teller 's Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw, for a top-secret dangerous mission.
Powell previously revealed that Cruise persuaded him to sign on to Maverick after he initially auditioned for Teller's role but didn't get it and wasn't initially interested after that.
"[Tom and I] sat down for a couple hours and talked about his life and his career and how he chooses movies, and how he develops roles and those sort of things," the Anyone But You star told PEOPLE in April 2022.
"It was really a series of those conversations that convinced me that this could be a role that could actually be exciting, that I could have a little bit of creative license. I could make it my own and make something that could be really special."
"And I have to give Tom credit, a lot of times people just try to get you on the hook to get you in a movie and none of the promises are fulfilled," he continued. "But he fulfilled every single one of those promises. And I'm really proud of the movie and I'm proud of my role in it."
Hit Man is on Netflix June 7.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning’s surprise ending choice kept Tom Cruise up at night
EXCLUSIVE: Director Christopher McQuarrie on why Part One couldn't end on a cliffhanger
Spoilers for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One follow. This message will self-destruct in five seconds.
Unlike Fast X and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse , Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning doesn’t leave things on a cliffhanger for its Part One. All told, it’s a relatively complete tale – Ethan has one-upped Gabriel and has The Entity’s key, after all – with a further end goal in mind buried deep in the Arctic Sea.
In our recent interview with Christopher McQuarrie, the director explained the decision to send audiences home satisfied – and why the surprise creative choice was something that kept star Tom Cruise up at night.
"Where we ended the movie was always where we were going to end it," McQuarrie says of the Orient Express set piece. " How we ended the movie was a big, big mystery for us. It kept Tom awake at night throughout production. He would come in all the time and say, 'This can’t be a cliffhanger, it’s got to be satisfying.' The audience has to feel a sense of completion."
McQuarrie continues, "Tom kept looking at that scene and he had all this anxiety about whether or not it would be a satisfying conclusion or whether it would feel open-ended. We constantly revisited it, constantly refined it."
To emphasize the to-and-fro nature of Cruise and McQuarrie’s dilemma, the fond farewell between Ethan Hunt and Hayley Atwell’s Grace before Hunt departs the train was filmed two years after cameras initially rolled on production. "Tom has his hair from Part Two and he’s in a wig!" McQuarrie jokes.
Then, McQuarrie outlines his Mission: Impossible mission statement on why everything feels a little cleaner than we may have anticipated: "If you leave it with a cliffhanger, it feels a little bit like we’re expecting you to come back," the director says of the ending. "We didn’t want that feeling. The feeling we were reaching for – and we hope you feel – is we dare you not to come back. We want to leave you thinking, 'Oh, I can’t wait to see what happens next.'"

A Podcast About Bad Movies
All tom cruise, episode #283 – the mummy live.
It’s been so long, we can’t even REMEMBER when we recorded this show on Tom Cruise’s The Mummy. But it’s from Seattle and it’s on tape, so here it is!
Episode #270 – Interview with the Vampire
Remember that surprisingly well-defined contest Elliott spearheaded a few episodes back? Well the contest winner decided what we should watch, and it was Interview with the Vampire. Will we fall victim to its bloodsucking charms? Meanwhile, Elliott apologizes to goths, Stuart lists a few Ecks vs. Sever sequels, and Dan disputes the very premise of the movie.

Glen Powell told some of his best Tom Cruise stories as part of a cover story interview with GQ UK magazine . The two actors became close friends during the production of “Top Gun: Maverick.” Powell originally auditioned for the role of Rooster, but he was beat out by Miles Teller. Cruise liked Powell and offered him the role of Hangman, but Powell had some notes.

“Tom goes ‘oh no, oh no,’ and he starts dropping the helicopter over London,” Powell said. “I was like, ‘Am I about to be the unnamed guy that dies with Tom in a smoking hole in the middle of London?’”
Another memory is when Cruise sent Powell to a theater in Los Angeles to show him a “film school” video that Cruise had put together for his friends.
“Powell expected to be among a crowd – but no, it was just him alone, in an empty theater. For six hours ,” GQ UK reports. “Watching Tom Cruise speak directly to the camera, breaking down everything he’s learned about filmmaking over the years. According to Powell, Cruise has no intention of putting it out into the public sphere.”
“He said, ‘This is just for my friends’,” Powell said. “[In the video Cruise] is like: ‘Do we all agree that this is what a camera is? This is the difference between a film camera and a digital camera…’ The funniest part is on flying. It was like he put together this entire flight school. So he would literally go, ‘Ok, this is what a plane is. Here’s how things fly. Here’s how air pressure works.’”
Powell is finally becoming one of Hollywood’s go-to leading men. He scored a box office hit last year with Sony’s rom-com “Anyone but You” and is front and center as a co-lead in this summer’s tentpole “Twisters.” It’s been a long time coming for the actor, who told GQ UK he screwed up auditions to play Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Han Solo in the “Star Wars” prequel “Solo.”
“I can joke about it now,” Powell said of his “Solo” casting process. “[But] I blew that final audition.”
Powell is no longer interested in superhero roles, although he did say that Batman would most likely be the only one worth his time.
“I was always a Batman guy,” Powell said. “I would have a wild take on Batman. It definitely would not be like a Matt Reeves tone – it’d probably be closer to [Michael] Keaton.
According to Powell, Hollywood became a lot more favorable on him thanks to the success of actors like Chris Pratt in “Guardians of the Galaxy” and Chris Hemsworth in “Thor.”
“I really do feel like a lot of Hollywood is which actors are in vogue,” Powell said. “What everybody does is end up writing to that thing. All of a sudden, when Robert Pattinson pops off, they’re like, ‘We want a brooding Robert Pattinson type.’ You see it in every script.”
Once Pratt found blockbuster success with “Guardians,” Hollywood became more interested in goofier leading men and not just the brooding, self-serious type.
“These guys can take a punch and sell a joke,” Powell said of Pratt and Hemsworth. “I feel like that’s when I started catching friction on the sidewalk.”

Now, he is poised to land his first Primetime Emmy Award nomination, in the category of best actor in a limited or anthology series or TV movie, for arguably the meatiest part he has ever been asked to play on screen, and the one for which he has received the most widespread acclaim: that of Truman Capote on the FX limited series Feud: Capote vs. the Swans .
Over the course of this episode, the 56-year-old reflects on his early start in the business (he was just 14 when he made his screen acting debut); his experiences on art house films like 2005’s Pride and Prejudice and 2009’s In the Loop versus big-studio productions like the 2006 and 2007 installments of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and 2015’s Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation ; how he wound up cast as Capote 20 years after auditioning to play him in a film, and what the response to his performance in the limited series has meant to him; plus much more.

Breaking news, joe rogan podcast guest flashes $1 million cash during interview to promote jiu-jitsu tournament: video.

Comedian Joe Rogan welcomed an Australian martial artist to his podcast who dumped $1 million in cash out on a table to promote his upcoming fighting tournament, video shows .
Craig Jones, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighter, made an appearance on the immensely popular “Joe Rogan Experience” podcast this week and in the middle of the interview said he wanted to show prospective fighters he has the prize money to pay the champs of his inaugural Craig Jones Invitational.
The tournament will compete against the international Abu Dhabi Combat Club [ADCC] Submission Fighting World Championship — regarded as the most elite jiu-jitsu competition in the world where Jones has twice won several medals.
“You brought with you a million dollars in cash which I’ve never seen before — I’ve never seen a million dollars in one place, … I guess tip it out,” Rogan says, removing some glasses from the table to make room on the table during the interview.
Jones reaches down and pulls up a camo duffel bag and begins dumping stacks of bills on the table as the cameras are rolling.
Many of the bills were loosely stacked together or not at all, Rogan noted.
“Ladies and gentlemen, that is one million dollars in cash. That is so ridiculous,” the comic says, laughing.
Jones is offering a prize of up to $1 million for two weight classes of above 170 lbs. and one below.
“I mean, this was the proof. I had the idea. I was like, I’ll bring a prop $1 million on Joe Rogan,” Jones told Rogan.
“But I was thinking then they already don’t believe I have the money. So if I pulled out a prop million and you were like, ‘Oh, that’s fake money,’ then I’m like, ‘oh my tournament’s fucked,’” he concluded.
The Craig Jones Invitational (CJI) website describes the Aug. 16 and 17 tournament as “A nonprofit dedicated to elevating sport and athlete compensation, while simultaneously raising money for charitable causes.”
