Engine and Performance

Left Front Three Quarter

The 2023 avatar of the Tata Safari retains the same 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine mated to a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter automatic unit. This motor meets BS6 Phase 2 emissions standards and produces 168bhp and 350Nm of peak torque. The automatic transmission still works very well, with the shifts that remain quick, smooth, and in sync with the engine’s characteristics and power delivery. There is enough torque for pulling from low speeds, and the transmission's responsiveness to both upshifts and downshifts makes the driving experience enjoyable. It also gets paddle shifters, and they respond well, making the driving experience more engaging.

Engine Shot

The Eco, City, and Sport driving modes remain unchanged, offering responsive throttle inputs. The Safari has sufficient load-carrying and people-hauling capabilities in both urban and highway settings, and it can overtake effortlessly despite its size and weight. This Tata SUV remains planted and stable at triple-digit speeds, and its performance is not compromised despite being larger and heavier than the Harrier. The terrain mode selector, which efficiently alters the response through software maps, has been retained too. However, some off-road enthusiasts may argue that all-wheel drive (AWD) would have made the SUV more capable in hilly regions and slippery conditions. Nonetheless, our experience suggests that the Safari can tackle trails and rough terrain with poise for the most part.

Ride and Handling

Right Side View

The Safari's high ground clearance, tall stance, and well-tuned suspension allow it to effortlessly absorb bumps, potholes, and ruts on broken roads. Occupants are not unsettled, and there is minimal noise inside the cabin — whether driving at low or high speeds. Its robust build quality and Land Rover underpinnings are evident in its ride and handling.

Left Front Three Quarter

Previous Safari owners complained about the heavy hydraulic steering, but the new electronic power steering has addressed this issue. It feels lighter at low speeds but adds weight as the speed increases, as is also noticeable in the Sport mode. The ADAS, meanwhile, is not intrusive and gently guides the car back into the marked lane if it starts to veer off. Then, all the disc brakes provide good stopping power and work well with the emergency automatic braking system. Overall, both systems functioned flawlessly, with the adaptive cruise control responding to commands instantly.

Left Rear Three Quarter

Exterior Design

Right Front Three Quarter

Despite being a facelift, the new model has been significantly redesigned, giving it a concept-like appearance and a more upmarket feel than its predecessor. The new single grille is unique, with accents that match the exterior body colour on this version. The connected LED bar is a welcome addition, and the new squared-off headlamp housings on the re-sculpted bumper further distinguish it from the previous model.

Right Rear Three Quarter

Moreover, the new 19-inch wheels have an attractive design similar to the Sierra concept's wheels showcased at this year's Auto Expo. The rear section has been updated with tweaked taillights and a new LED bar that gets the welcome and goodbye animation in line with the front. There's also a faux skid plate on the redesigned bumper with vertically stacked reflectors and reverse light housing.

Interior and Features

Dashboard

The interior has also been updated, but the overall design remains largely unchanged. The most noticeable change is the new steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo, which was first seen on the new Nexon. Tata has also addressed our previous criticism of this new steering’s horn placement, which was awkward and difficult to use. The horn has now been repositioned and is more responsive to inputs.

Front Row Seats

The new Safari also features touch controls for the AC. Other major updates to the dashboard include a 12.3-inch infotainment screen and a fully digital instrument cluster. The latter gets readable fonts, fast response time, and high customisability, and is packed with information, including ADAS. The touchscreen is also highly responsive and has a clean UI, but it lacks haptic feedback and knobs for quick control.

Front Row Seats

The seating layout remains unchanged, with ample space in all rows. However, a major improvement that elevates its interior's premium feel is the high-quality materials used for the upholstery, dashboard, and most surfaces. Nothing feels cheap or out of place, and the cabin remains robust. The Safari has been known for its 'boss mode', and it continues to offer a laid-back seating position with power adjustments. The seats also get adjustable headrests for enhanced comfort. To further delight passengers, ventilated seats are now available in both rows, which will be a blessing in our hot and humid climate.

Second Row Seats

The carmaker has also taken the safety aspect up a notch. For example, all variants/personas now come standard with six airbags, while the top-spec version gets an additional driver's knee airbag. In addition, the Safari gets a 360-degree camera and a host of ADAS features, including new ones like adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, high beam assist, lane change alert, and lane departure warning. Other ADAS features include door open alert, traffic sign recognition, blind-spot detection, and rear cross-traffic alert. Additionally, other important safety features include rear collision warning, forward collision warning, and autonomous emergency braking, which worked effectively. The SUV also gets disc brakes on all four wheels.

Third Row Seats

The new Safari is also equipped with a new e-call feature for emergency assistance. With a touch of a button, the breakdown call can notify the roadside assistance service. Other impressive tech features that worked flawlessly include the new TFT cluster, terrain mode selector with TFT screen, audio controls compatible with Alexa, powered tailgate opening, and the connected car experience. Finally, whether you choose the six- or seven-seater version, every variant, from the entry-level Smart to the top-spec Accomplished+, offers a good variety of exterior colour options and material choices.

Instrument Cluster

Tata Motors wants to broaden the appeal of the new Safari with a wider range of exterior colours, including a segment-first dual-tone option, and a plethora of new features. The Safari retains its macho appearance, making it a symbol of authority while offering a premium and spacious cabin. Prospective buyers also get new technology and added connectivity, all while cocooned in safety. Tata Motors also has kept the premium reasonable, making the new Safari an easy choice for buyers, given its many appealing features.

which car is better between punch and exter

The Tata Punch and Hyundai Exter both have their own strengths and weaknesses. The Tata Punch offers a good riding experience, attractive design, and good build quality, but it is criticized for being overpriced and lacking certain features. On the other hand, the Hyundai Exter provides a rugged appeal, loaded with features, and competitive pricing, but it has limited engine options and interior space. Ultimately, the choice between the two would depend on your specific priorities and preferences.

compare harrier vs hector

Both the Tata Harrier and MG Hector are popular choices in the midsize SUV segment. The Harrier is praised for its safety, driving experience, and premium interiors, while the Hector is known for its solid build quality, extensive features, and spacious interior. Gravitas to be launched as the new Tata Safari

The Tata Safari is back. In what will come as a pleasant surprise to fans of the brand, Tata Motors has decided to resurrect the iconic Safari nameplate with its upcoming flagship SUV. Introduced at the Auto Expo 2020 as the Gravitas , the 7-seat SUV will be launched as the new Tata Safari, and will arrive in showrooms soon. Here’s all you need to know about this latest development.

  • Tata to launch Gravitas as the new Safari
  • Bookings to open in January
  • To borrow powertrain from the Tata Harrier

New Tata Safari details

Speaking to Autocar India, Shailesh Chandra, President, Passenger Vehicles Business Unit, Tata Motors, confirmed the company will revive the Safari, bringing back a popular name that India was first introduced to all the way back in 1998.

“The Safari glamourised the whole lifestyle segment. For two decades, the Safari stood for prestige, power, performance, and strong presence, and in its new avatar, it will carry forward this strong legacy as it combines the award-winning IMPACT 2.0 design language and the architecture capability of the Omegaarchitecture”, said Chandra.

Compared to the 5-seat Harrier , the new Tata Safari will be aimed at a different set of buyers. Chandra said the new Safari is geared towards “those who are socially active, fun-loving, travel in groups seeking out unique experiences and adventures”.

Tata’s 7-seat SUV made its global debut at the Geneva motor show in 2019 as the Buzzard, and then showcased at the Auto Expo 2020 as the Gravitas. However, Chandra says this new SUV was originally conceived as the new Safari, and has a few subtle elements that are a nod to the original.

“This SUV was conceptualised as the next-generation Safari. We did not name the Harrier thenew Safari for the simple reason that it was not a 7-seater. However, the new Safari will be the best 7-seater, as it does not have apology third-row seating. Like the original, it hasa strong face, a high bonnet, the stepped roof, therear three-quarter glass and stadium seating. All these elements were designed at the start to take care of the Safari legacy going forward”, says Chandra.

The new Safari will arrive in showrooms in January itself, and bookings for it will also commence later this month, Chandra confirmed during the interaction.

New Tata Safari could get 4x4 in the future

In more encouraging news for Safari loyalists, Chandra also stated the company’s Land Rover-derived Omega architecture – which the new Tata Safari is based on –is designed to incorporate a four-wheel-drive system, hinting at a possible 4x4 variant of the new Safarithat may be launched at a later date.

“Omega architecture will allow us further enhancements such as 4WD and also possibilities of electrification in the future. There are 2-3 options and routes that we’re exploring for this. We’ll do some consumer research before kicking off that kind of project”, said Chandra, when asked about a potential 4x4 version of the new Safari.

New Tata Safari dimensions and powertrain

In order to make space for a third row of seats, Tata has made the new Safari 63mm longer than the Harrier, as well as 80mm taller. However, to provide greater visual distinction between the two, Tata Motors is expected to offer new colour options as well as new wheel designs for the Safari.

As for powertrains, the new Tata Safari will borrow the 170hp, 2.0-litre Kryotec turbo-diesel engine from the Harrier, as well as its six-speed manual and six-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox options.

New Tata Safari price and rivals

Sitting at the top of the Tata Motors PV line-up, the new Safari will cost a fair bit more than the Harrier, which is priced from Rs 13.84-20.30 lakh (ex-showroom).

When it is launched in the coming weeks, the new Tata Safari will face competition from other 7-seat models such as the MG Hector Plus and the current-gen Mahindra XUV500 . Later in the year, it will also have to battle the next-gen Mahindra XUV500 , as well as Hyundai’s new 7-seat Creta-based SUV .

Tata Harrier and Safari score perfect five at Global NCAP crash tests

The 2023 Tata Harrier and Safari facelift SUVs have expectedly sailed through Global NCAP crash tests with highest possible ranking. The Safari and Harrier have achieved the five-star rating for adult and child occupant safety in the latest tests. The two SUVs now come with enhanced safety features which include up to seven airbags, ADAS technology and much more. Check out the details report of Harrier and Safari crash tests .

Tata Harrier and Safari variant: New look with new names

Tata Motors has changed the nomenclature of the variants of its SUVs. A trend the carmaker started with the facelift versions of the Nexon and Nexon EV continues with the 2023 Harrier and Safari as well. Tata Motors says the new variants are carefully curated to suit individual tastes varying between the adventurous and the family-oriented customers. The names also make it easier for one to understand which variants suits who. For the 2023 Safari, Tata has replaced the old nomenclatures for variant names to Smart, Pure, Adventure and Accomplished. The Harrier SUV will be offered in four variants called Pure, Adventure, Smart and Fearless. Both the SUVs will also be offered with the Dark Edition versions.

Tata Harrier rivals: Hyundai Creta to Jeep Compass

Tata Harrier facelift will have its task cut out when the carmaker launches the SUV in its new avatar. The compact SUV will rival the diesel versions of popular models like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Hector and even the Jeep Compass SUVs. Mahindra currently does not offer any SUV in the compact segment. However, in terms of pricing, the new Harrier could also rival some of the variants of the Scorpio-N and XUV700. In terms of sales, Harrier lags far behind the Korean rivals due to a single-engine option. A new look with more advanced features could see Harrier improve its performance on sales charts in coming days.

Tata Harrier, Safari to offer enhanced safety with ADAS features

Just like comfort and convenience features, Tata Motors has also enhanced the safety aspects of its two flagship SUVs. Both models are expected to score very high at crash tests and emerge as two of the safest SUVs in India. If six airbags are not enough, Tata has added a seventh airbag in both models. The seventh airbag has been placed to protect the knees of the driver. This will be available with the top-spec variants of the Harrier and Safari facelift SUVs. Besides offering seven airbags, Tata will also offer level-2 ADAS technology with the SUVs. The ADAS tech will offer as many as 11 assistive features for driving which include adaptive cruise control and blind spot detection among others. Other safety features include ABS with EBD, ESP, tyre pressure monitoring system, cruise control, driver attention alert, hill descent control, emergency call and breakdown alert and more.

Tata Harrier, Safari launch: Expected prices

The existing version of the Harrier SUV costs between ₹ 15.20 lakh and ₹ 24.27 lakh (ex-showroom). Expect the price of the 2023 Harrier SUV start around ₹ 15.50 lakh (ex-showroom). The price of the top-end version could go up to ₹ 25 lakh (ex-showroom). The existing models of Safari SUV comes at a starting price of ₹ 15.85 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to ₹ 25.21 lakh (ex-showroom). Expect the price of this three-row SUV to start around ₹ 16 lakh (ex-showroom).

Tata continues to ditch petrol for Harrier and Safari

Tata Motors will continue to offer both Harrier and Safari SUV with its trusted 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine under the hood. The engine is capable of generating 167.6 bhp of maximum power and 350 Nm of peak torque. The engine will come mated to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic transmission unit. While the rivals like Mahindra XUV700, Mahindra Scorpio-N, Hyundai Alcazar and MG Hector Plus are offered with both petrol and diesel engines, Tata has no plans yet to introduce petrol versions of its two flagship SUVs.

Tata Harrier and Safari feature list can make Korean rivals run for money

Tata Harrier and Safari now comes with series of features that can rival the Korean models in India. Some of the biggest highlights include a new four-spoke steering wheel with illuminated logo and mounted controls and paddle shifters depending on variants, physical buttons repalced with touch-based HVAC controls on the dashboard, new 12.30-inch touchscreen infotainment system which support wireless Anrdoid Auto and Apple CarPlay. It also can be connected to apps like Google, Alexa and Tata's own iRA. The new 10.25-inch digital driver display offers several drive-related information and can now also show navigation. Tata is also offering 13 different sound modes with the 10 JBL speaker sound system with Harmon AudioworX.

The SUVs also come with other features like wireless charging, 360-degree camera, panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, ambient lighting and much more. In Safari, the front and middle row seats will come with ventilated features. The driver seat in both SUVs can be adjusted electronically with memory features.

Tata Harrier and Safari: Design changes explained

The biggest update Tata Motors has brought in the new Harrier and Safari SUVs is the way they look. Both SUVs now come with a new parametric grille, less chrome, vertical LED headlight units, connected LED DRLs and connected LED taillights. Harrier and Safari also get redesigned alloy wheels. While the ones on Harrier may not seem too different, Safari wears a new-look dual-tone alloy wheels. Both measure between 17 inches and 19 inches, depending on the variants. From the sides, both SUVs remain largely similar to what they were previously.

Step inside, and the slew of changes continue in how the cabin is decked up. Both SUVs now get new upholstery, redesigned dashboard with wood trim finish, plenty of gloss black touches on doors and centre console offer a more premium interior look. In Safari, Tata has added comfort headrests for the second row passengers.

Tata Safari facelift review: Family car with bachelor's spirit

The Tata Safari is the flagship model for the Indian car maker that was first introduced here in 2021. At the time, the focus was as much on drawing inspiration from an inconic name as was on putting a brand new model on a pedestal. Here was a three-row vehicle that promised SUV-like style but claimed MPV-like comfort. Fast forward just two years and the updated Tata Safari has a new wardrobe to show off. Check out our first drive review .

Tata Safari and its rivals

Safari is one of the few SUVs in the market which offer three-row seating option. Tata Motors will continue to offer the Safari in six and seven-seat configurations. The other SUVs in this category are Mahindra XUV700 and Scorpio-N, Hyundai Alcazar and MG Hector Plus. While Scorpio-N offers jump seats at the rear, all other Safari rivals offer bench seats in the third row. All these SUVs are around the same price point ranging between ₹ 15 lakh and ₹ 25 lakh (ex-showroom). Where Safari may lose its advantage is against the two Mahindra SUVs which are also offered in 4X4 versions. Tata does not plan to launch an AWD version of the Safari yet.

Tata Harrier 2023 review

Tata Harrier: Compact SUV with some muscle

In 2019, just before the world was hit by Covid-19 pandemic, Tata Motors launched the Harrier five-seater SUV in India. It was the first SUV from the carmaker to get the OmegaArc platform, which was derived from Tata's British luxury carmaker Jaguar Land Rover's D8 platform. Equipped with the same 2.0-litre diesel engine that powers the Safari SUV, Harrier quickly became one of the popular models in the Indian markets. However, it was not enough for Harrier to take on the more feature-rich Korean rivals, which continue to lead the compact SUV segment till date. With addition of several features, the new Harrier may just have bridged that gap.

Tata Safari: A legacy continues in new avatar

When it comes to true-blue SUVs manufactured in India, the name of Tata Safari would be right up there. Since its first launch back in 1998, it had gained popularity for its sheer size and go-anywhere capabilities. The first generation Safari came with a 4X4 drive system and was powered by a 2.0-litre four cylinder diesel engine. Over the years, a lot has changed in the Safari, including its looks as well as the platform. Tata used to base the Safari on Telcoline's Tata X2 body-on-frame platform earlier. Later, the carmaker shifted to the same platform used by Jaguar Land Rover for its SUVs.

Tata's SUV lineup sees revamp in design language

Tata Motors has an array of SUVs to offer to Indian customers. Its sub-compact model Nexon leads the SUV race with ICE as well as electric versions. Its smallest SUV Punch also rakes in good sales numbers every month. The sales performance of the other two SUVs, Harrier and Safari, have been somewhat muted in comparison against their rivals. However, Tata Motors has now started to uupdate its design language to make these SUVs more attractive. The new Nexon and Nexon EV were the first two models to come with new design traits, inspired from the Curvv concept model showcased by Tata Motors earlier. The same design philosophy has been carried forward for Harrier and Safari, which now appear much sharper and bolder in appeal.

Tata Motors consolidates SUV portfolio, drives in new Safari at Rs 14.69 lakh

Tata motors launched the all-new safari suv with introductory prices ranging from rs 14.69 lakh and rs 21.45 lakh..

tata safari 4x4 launch date

With the Indian passenger vehicles market moving further towards the SUV segment, homegrown auto major Tata Motors is gearing up to cast a wider net in the segment targeting first time buyers to premium-end customers while driving strength from its synergies with JLR, according to a top company official.

The firm, which on Monday launched the all-new Safari SUV with introductory prices ranging from Rs 14.69 lakh and Rs 21.45 lakh, is seeking to build on the legacy of the Safari brand which “has played a leading role in shaping the Indian SUV market”.

tata safari 4x4 launch date

Speaking at the launch event, Tata Motors Chairman N Chandrasekaran said that over the years the company has introduced various iconic brands like Sierra, Estate, Indica and Nano.

The recent launches of Nexon, Alroz and Harrier with their distinctive attributes and features have brought in best in class standards of safety, design and performance, he added.

“The original Tata Safari is also such an iconic brand when it was launched in 1998. It glamourised the concept of lifestyle SUV. Now we are really delighted to bring in new Safari in its new avatar.

Festive offer

“I am delighted that both Tata Motors and Jaguar Land Rover have collaborated and brought in the synergies to bring in best in class products for the Indian consumer,” Chandrasekaran noted.

The company’s new range of products has received enormous support and growth in sales and demand from the consumers, he said.

The new Safari is based on the D8 platform from Land Rover which allows for further drive train enhancements including all-wheel drive and possibilities of electrification in future. The company’s Harrier SUV is also based on the same D8 platform.

The new Safari comes with six and seven seat options and is powered by a 2-litre diesel engine which generates 170 PS of power.

The model comes with six-speed manual and automatic transmission options and various features like panoramic sunroof, reclining second row seats, ambient mood lighting, rear AC vents, multi drive modes among others.

Safari range starts at Rs 14.69 lakh and Rs 21.25 lakh, while the adventure edition is priced at Rs 20.2 lakh and Rs 21.45 (automatic), respectively.

“Safari as our new flagship is connecting the aspirations of the discerning and evolved SUV customers. It is an impressive endorsement of our stated intent of enhancing presence in the faster growing market segments,” Tata Motors MD and CEO Guenter Butschek said.

Elaborating further, Tata Motors President – Passenger Vehicle Business Unit Shailesh Chandra said the new Safari and the upcoming compact SUV later this year would help the company generate more volumes from its SUV portfolio.

“The way we plan and conceptualise our portfolio is in line with how we are seeing the (market) evolution, what is the point of view we have developed in terms of what the whole market landscape will be in the next five to six years and in the (next) ten year period,” he noted.

He was responding to a query on the reasons for Tata Motors’ enhanced focus on the SUV segment.

“Today every one out of three vehicles sold is SUV. You can see the craze, especially in the last one decade or so… Directionally, you are seeing movement towards SUV and therefore, we are strengthening our portfolio with the four SUVs — Nexon, Harrier, Safari then there is a potential code-named Hornbill, which comes as a SUV below Nexon,” Chandra added.

The idea behind offering a wide range of SUVs, he said is that “we would have the widest portfolio serving people, who might be considering a vehicle for the first time to the extent that as they upgrade they can move up to Safari and bring this continuity from a customer”.

Chandra noted that the model could be upgraded to four wheel drive in future if the demand is robust.

“The model in its current form, can do pretty serious offroading with terrain response system,” he said. The earlier Safari used to come with the four-wheel drive option.

When conceptualising the new Safari four years back, Chandra said Tata Motors has kept into consideration the ‘strong legacy’ of the brand, preferences and expectations of the new-age customers and how SUVs are evolving globally from a technical perspective.

While bullish on the sales expectations from the new Safari, Chandra said Tata Motors is looking at the product not just from a volume perspective but also from overall revenue and bottomline perspective.

“We have kept enough flexibility so that at the same manufacturing facility there are a lot of common parts with Harrier. So there is established maturity of production, as well as quality,” he said adding that it should be a seamless effort for the company even if there was a need to enhance the capacity a bit when the need comes.

Tata Safari EV Car Specifications

Tata safari ev summary.

The Tata Safari EV prices are expected to range between Rs. 26.00 Lakh - Rs. 30.00 Lakh, depending on the variant selected.

When will the Tata Safari EV be unveiled?

The Tata Safari EV is expected to be revealed in early of 2025.

What variants will it get?

We expect that when Tata showcases and eventually launches the Safari EV, it will be offered in the XM, XZ, XZ+ lux variants. However, with the launch of the Nexon EV facelift, Tata introduced a new nomenclature for its cars along the lines of Creative, Fearless and Pure. The Safari EV could move to this at the time of launch.

What features will be available in the Tata Safari EV?

We expect the Tata Safari EV to take up the shape of the Harrier EV but with a different face, different alloy wheel design and lighting package. It’s expected to be offered in both single-tone and dual-tone colour schemes.

The Safari EV will copy most of the Harrier EVs cabin including the elements, layout and colour schemes. We also expect most of the feature list like the touchscreen infotainment system, instrument cluster, power driver’s seat, level-1 ADAS and lighting package to be carried over. The Safari EV will be the first three-row vehicle in the segment and we expect it to be offered with both six-seat and seven-seat options.

What will be the powertrain of the Tata Safari EV?

Like its five-door sibling, the Safari EV will be underpinned by Tata gen-2 architecture and possibly AWD via a dual motor set-up. There are no details as yet on the battery pack or motor output.

Is the Tata Safari EV a safe car?

The Tata Safari EV has not been tested for a BNCAP or GNCAP Crash test rating.

What will be the rivals for the Tata Safari EV?

The Tata Safari EV will take on the likes of the models from Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Kia and Mahindra all of which will arrive from 2025 and beyond.

Tata Motors lines up three new launches in the coming months

Tata Motors had more than a decent 2023, having launched a few new cars and SUVs, and recording an excellent sales performance during the year. For 2024, the Indian carmaker has plans to launch at least three models in our market, which should help it continue its stellar run. The Nexon range is scheduled to expand with the addition of CNG-powered variants, while the Altroz line-up will have a sportier variant. Tata will also bring its first all-new model in three years – the Curvv. Read on to know what to expect.

Tata Nexon iCNG

When it comes to CNG-powered vehicles, Tata already has an industry-first; it introduced India’s first CNG-automatic models with the Tiago and Tigor iCNG getting AMTs. With the launch of the Nexon iCNG , which Tata had showcased at this year’s Bharat Mobility Expo, the brand will bring out another industry-first: a factory-made turbocharged CNG-powered car.

The Nexon iCNG will use the same 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine as the standard petrol model. While a manual gearbox will be standard, we expect Tata to offer an AMT option as well. Prices for the Nexon iCNG are expected to be about Rs 1 lakh higher than the equivalent petrol variant.

Tata Altroz Racer

The launch of Tata’s answer to the Hyundai i20 N Line , the Altroz Racer, is imminent. The sportier Altroz has been spied on test as well, confirming details about the model that was first showcased at the Auto Expo a few years ago. Compared to the Altroz iTurbo, with which the Racer shares the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, the go-faster model gets 120hp (10hp more) and a 6-speed manual gearbox (compared to the 5-speed on the iTurbo). The model spied sports the same dual-tone orange and black paint scheme as the vehicle displayed at the expo. However, the model being tested had the same alloy wheels as the standard Altroz, while the model at the expo had dark chrome/black alloy wheels.

Other differences between the Altroz Racer and the standard hatchback include twin racing stripes on the bonnet and the roof, ‘Racer’ badges, and a slightly revised grille. In terms of features and safety kit, the Racer will be equipped with a new 10.25-inch touchscreen, segment-first ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera, six airbags, ESC, a heads-up display and a voice-assisted sunroof.

Tata’s much-anticipated midsize SUV will finally launch in the coming months; Curvv’s launch has been postponed by a few months, but it will arrive this year around the festive season. The Curvv EV is on the docket first, and while technical details are still unknown, we know it’ll use Tata’s Gen 2 Acti.ev architecture and have a range of around 450-500km. This means that Tata's all-electric Curvv will precede its rivals – the Creta EV, Maruti eVX and Toyota's derivative of Maruti's EV.

The petrol and diesel variants are expected to enter production around September and launch either in the last quarter of 2024 or early-2025. The Curvv petrol will be powered by Tata’s new 125hp, 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo engine , and come with manual and automatic gearbox options. Meanwhile, the Curvv diesel is expected to share the Nexon’s 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel unit paired to 6-speed manual and AMT gearboxes. A CNG-powered Curvv is also expected to arrive later.

However, it remains to be seen whether its unique coupe-like roofline will resonate with the Indian audience. Tata will equip the Curvv with segment-rivalling features and tech. We expect a 360-degree camera, 10.25-inch screens for infotainment and driver display duties, cooled seats and more. Whether ADAS is part of the equation is still unknown.
