Senses Fail is an American rock band whose sound encroaches on genre variants ranging from post-hardcore, emo, screamo, and punk. They cite influences that encompass introspective and emotionally bare indie acts like The Promise Ring as well as brazen non-authoritative punk rockers like The Nation of Ulysses.

The group formed in 2002 in Ridgewood, New Jersey, US after lead singer Buddy Nielsen placed a band advertisement on the internet, attracting responses from drummer Dan Trapp, who in turn convinced his friends to join, which included James Gill, Dave Miller, and Garrett Zablocki. Former Tokyo Rose drummer Mike Glita completed the group’s initial line up, taking on the role of bassist.

Senses Fail derived their name from a theme common in Eastern religion and philosophy (particularly Hinduism) in which nirvana is reached through suppressing all sensory perception. They have integrated their love of philosophical ideas such as this as well as poetry and pure emotional expression into their sound. Their unique take on punk music as well as their endearing work ethic gained them a strong and steadily growing fan base.

The group put on live shows anytime and anywhere they got a chance, including unorthodox venues such as skate parks and churches. Once they gathered a following they started recording demos to meet their fans demands. Their first “official” release comprised their early demos into the 6 track EP “From the Depths of Dreams, which came out through ECA Records. Though the recording was released independently it was a minor success, impressive enough to get Drive-Thru Records to sign a recording contract with them. Their EP was reissued through the label in 2003 and featured an additional 2 tracks. This re-issue was very successful, rising to No. 144 on the Billboard charts and gaining them supporting bills with Finch, The Used, Millencolin, and the Starting Line.

By early 2004 Senses Fail put out their studio debut through the label Vagrant Records. The band drew lyrical inspiration from a broad range of sources such as poet Charles Bukowski, mythologist Joseph Campbell and the 6th century sage Laozi. The album was immensely successful selling 400,000 copies in the United States and producing two singles “Buried a Lie” and “Rum Is For Drinking”. Senses Fail went on to promote the album through a long lasting tour that made stops at festivals like Vans Warped Tour and Taste of Chaos.

The release of 2006’s “Still Searching” followed the band’s extensive tour. The album was produced by Brian McTernan whose past credits include works by Texas Is the Reason, Converge, Hot Rod Circuit, and Thrice. The deluxe edition of the album was released in November 2007 and featured the Cranberries cover “Salvation”.

The group’s 3rd album “Life Is Not a Waiting Room” came out on 7 October 2008 and was supported by a national tour that started a day later. The group reconnected with McTeran to record their 4th studio album “The Fire”, which was released in the Fall of 2010. Garrett Zablocki left the band shortly after to pursue a college degree and focus on music compositions for film.

Near the close of 2011 the band embarked on another tour alongside “Stick To Your Guns”, “Make Do and Mend”, and “The Story So Far”. In the Summer of 2012 they released their greatest hits album “Follow Your Bliss: The Best of Senses Fail” and in early 2013 issued their 5th studio album “Renacer”.

Live reviews

What a great show. Senses Fail is one of my favorite groups to see live. The crowd was energized and really into the band. Senses Fail never fail to put on a great show and this one was no exception. I yelled so much I couldn’t talk for a week after the show.

They kicked off the show with “Tie Her Down” which really got everyone going right away. They played a strong set and encored with “Bite to Break Skin”. By that point, the crowd was so into it, they were scrambling to get on the stage. People were being thrown into the air and all over the place.

They really are one of the best Hardcore bands out there, and you really get that Jersey grit from their music. The driving guitar and the drums really keep the energy up, and when he starts screaming, you can’t help yourself from getting into it. It’s great to see them live too because your right there and can feel and see the emotion on their faces as the scream out the lyrics. This was not my first time seeing Senses Fail and I guarantee it won’t be my last either. Find their next show and buy tickets now.

Report as inappropriate

Hardcore rockers Senses Fail are often described as having one of the most impassioned and energetic live shows on the circuit. There is an endearing quality to the amount of belief the band has in their music and this has paid off with the moderate commercial success they have achieved in their homeland of the USA.

To British audiences they are not as well known yet this does not phase the band and they appear with as much vigour and anticipation as they would for a homecoming show. This energy is definitely translated well to the crowd and even the most disinterested reveller is now transfixed by Buddy Nielsen and co performing the momentous instrumental riffs of 'Bonecrusher'.

They do have a good underground following in the UK who are more than obliged to chant the chorus of early single 'Rum is for Drinking, Not for Burning' in an anthemic manner. Clearly album sales are not all that counts on the modern music scene, Senses Fail are a great example of this.

SENSES FAIL was one of the best shows me and my daughter have been to this summer!! They brought 2 great warm up bands, Yours Truly And Hot Mulligan. They are definitely 2 of my favorite new bands to listen to.

Frontman Buddy Of Senses Fail killed it! He was all buff and beautiful and full of surprises. He was doing all kind of jumps and twists and even a cartwheel right on stage!

He interacted with the crowd all night! He said alot of positive things and made us laugh at his stories! I’ve met Senses Fail a couple of times and you can’t ask for nicer guys. I ended up with a guitar pick and the set list. Me and my daughter were rocking the pit and he had the moshers going crazy! It was absolutely hilarious! I love the whole band and even their crew is amazing. I can’t wait to see them again! ❤️

Thank you Songkick for making it easy to get tickets and keeping down the charges. I wish you would do all of the shows.

Seriously good lineup, made it a point to look up all the openers afterwards because they were all uniquely memorable and talented. Senses Fail killed it, as always. Fourth time seeing them and they're still just as raw and genuine. Seeing Still Searching played in its entirety is life-changing.

Senses fail brought the most energy out of the bands in this show. Although they had a short set list (only 10 songs), they brought the punch. Buddy was a mad man with his dancing on stage and his ability to turn melodies into screamcore for this setting was brilliant.

DO. NOT. UNDERESTIMATE. THIS. BAND. I have seen Senses Fail several times now and each time I am surprised at what a great performance they give. I would see them a thousand more times if I could.

Senses Fail puts on a great show. Good energy. Great stage presence. Senses Fail is always a solid band to see, I always see them when they come local. They play a good mix of a few albums.

I cannot wait to get out on the road.”

The tour will serve as a celebration of anniversaries by Senses Fail and Saves The Day, ringing in twenty years of Let It Enfold You and twenty-five years of Through Being Cool . As a result, fans can expect a particularly raucous retrospective of their legacies through the playthrough of both records. The tour will also highlight the ways in which New Jersey was a hotbed of the early 00s emo/pop-punk scenes, producing two bands that would inevitably shape its sound and momentum.

Buddy Neilsen of Senses Fail said of the upcoming run: “I am so honored to be able to go on tour to celebrate a release from 20 years ago. If you had told me all that time again that we’d still be able to make music and tour this far into our career, I would be blown away. To have the privilege to tour with one of our main influences in Saves The Day as they celebrate one of my favorite records of all time is absolutely a blessing. Chris Conley of Saves The Day added: “Together we plan on bringing the spirit of New Jersey to life on stage in a city near you. Let’s all sing along to our favorite songs like we did way back in the day!”

The Official Platinum presale starts Wednesday, May 22nd at 9am PDT.

The Citi® Cardmember presale takes place Wednesday, May 22nd at 9am PDT.

A promoter presale opens Wednesday, May 22nd at 9am PDT.

Lastly, a House of Blues Foundation Room presale will be available for members on Wednesday, May 22nd at 9am PDT.

What Is The Senses Fail and Saves The Day Presale Code?

Fans can get tickets for the New Jersey vs. The World tour through several presales that start this week! The VIP Package presale for Senses Fail and Saves The Day is live and can be accessed below. As you search for your preferred tour date , keep an eye out for Official Platinum tickets, which do not require a presale code to be purchased .

VIP Package Presale

The VIP Package presale has started! Once you’ve chosen a tour date , you will need to decide which band you plan on purchasing VIP Packages through. You don’t need a presale code for VIP tickets, as they’re not being sold through Ticketmaster, but they’re already selling out, so hurry!

Senses Fail is offering fans the Martini Kiss VIP package , which includes a GA ticket, access to a mocktail party, a special enamel pin, a meet & greet with the band + a photo opportunity, and more. You can also upgrade your GA ticket with the Slow Dance VIP upgrade to get some of the perks without a hefty price tag.

Saves The Day is sharing similar benefits through their All-Star Me VIP packages, which will earn you a GA ticket, a 25th-anniversary hat, a signed tour setlist, a meet & greet with the band + a photo, early entry, and more. HOB Foundation Room Presale

If you are a House of Blues Foundation Room member you can access another presale on Wednesday, May 22nd at 9am PDT . This presale only applies to those attending the concert at the House of Blues Anaheim or The Wiltern in Los Angeles. You must be a member or join the  House of Blues Foundation Room , which will give you exclusive access to the presale as well as a host of other benefits and perks.

What Are Those Official Platinum Tickets?

If you see expensive tickets that are not VIP packages, those are official platinum tickets. These tickets are offered well over standard ticket prices, which is unfair to fans. The Event Organizer(s) have priced these tickets according to their market value (aka dynamic pricing). In other words, ticket pricing can go up or down and usually goes up.

Official platinum tickets do not include VIP packages. The only positive thing about them is that they make buying floor or front-row tickets to a high-demand concert easy if you’re willing to shed the extra cash. They can be bought during a presale without a presale code (which doesn’t always apply to Verified Fan/Weverse presales). Availability and pricing for official platinum tickets are subject to change based on demand.

Pro Tips When Buying Your Tickets

First, on the day of the presale or general onsale (whichever you prefer), login to your Ticketmaster account ( go to my account or sign in located on the upper right corner of the page ) at least 15 minutes ahead of the sale time. If you don’t have one,  create one now .

Be sure to add your billing info (aka credit card info) before jumping into the digital queue for a quick check-out. Once the presale starts, remain in the digital queue. Only use one browser window because using multiple browsers or devices and multiple accounts with the same phone number can result in errors. Trust, it’s happened to us before! Don’t refresh your page, do be patient, don’t leave your page, do get those tickets!

What To Do If Tickets Are Sold Out?

If tickets sell out, your other option is to buy them via online resellers like VividSeats or StubHub. When all else fails, we prefer these resell options because both offer a 100% Guarantee. You can also purchase resell tickets through Ticketmaster’s resell program. Just search for the concert or event you want to attend , and see if they have any resell tickets available. We recommend you compare the three options and find out which works best for you.

Alternatively, you can hit it old school style and show up at the concert when the box office opens and wish upon a star that they release more tickets, or hopefully, another concert-goer has an extra ticket to sell at face-value or even giveaway for free. Trust, this happens more often than not! We’ve given away many tickets to sold-out shows simply because our +1 couldn’t make it.

Also, more standard tickets are often released via Ticketmaster 1-3 days leading up to the show date. We’ve seen it with Beyonce , Taylor Swift , Arctic Monkeys and many more! It’s a secret gatekeeped by many, but if you’re reading this, now you know! So be sure to set your calendar notifications!

Senses Fail and Saves the Day Announce Fall 2024 North American Co-Headlining Tour

The post Senses Fail and Saves the Day Announce Fall 2024 North American Co-Headlining Tour appeared first on Consequence .

Senses Fail and Saves the Day have announced the Fall 2024 “New Jersey vs. The World” North American co-headlining tour.

Narrow Head will provide support for the trek, which kicks off November 5th in Austin and runs through December 8th in Tempe, Arizona. The route hits large markets such as Philadelphia, Boston, Toronto, Chicago, Denver, and Los Angeles along the way.

Get Senses Fail Tickets Here

A Live Nation ticket pre-sale for select dates begins Wednesday (May 22nd) at noon ET using the code SOUNDCHECK . General ticket sales start Thursday (May 23rd) at noon ET via Ticketmaster . Fans can also look for deals or get tickets to sold-out dates via StubHub , where your purchase is 100% guaranteed through StubHub’s Fan Protect program.

The tour is a double anniversary of sorts, with Senses Fail set to perform their seminal 2004 debut Let It Enfold You in its entirety and Saves the Day playing 1999’s Through Being Cool in full.

“I am so honored to be able to go on tour to celebrate a release from 20 years ago,” said Buddy Neilsen of Senses Fail in a press release. “If you had told me all that time again that we’d still be able to make music and tour this far into our career, I would be blown away. To have the privilege to tour with one of our main influences in Saves the Day as they celebrate one of my favorite records of all-time is absolutely a blessing. I cannot wait to get out on the road.”

Added Chris Conley of Saves The Day: “Together we plan on bringing the spirit of New Jersey to life on stage in a city near you. Let’s all sing along to our favorite songs like we did way back in the day!”

WP Engine sends cease-and-desist letter to Automattic over Mullenweg's comments

WordPress hosting service WP Engine on Monday sent a cease-and-desist letter to Automattic after the latter's CEO Matt Mullenweg called WP Engine a "cancer to WordPress" last week. WP Engine, which (like Automattic itself) commercializes the open-source WordPress project, also accused Mullenweg of threatening WP Engine before the WordCamp summit held last week. "Automattic’s CEO Matthew Mullenweg threatened that if WP Engine did not agree to pay Automattic – his for-profit entity – a very large sum of money before his September 20th keynote address at the WordCamp US Convention, he was going to embark on a self-described 'scorched earth nuclear approach' toward WP Engine within the WordPress community and beyond," the letter read.

GitHub will allow enterprise cloud customers to store data in the EU

GitHub will soon allow cloud customers to store their code data in the European Union (EU), part of a growing push in the technology realm to meet regulatory requirements and customer expectations around data protection — particularly where sensitive information might be at play, such as in the public sector or finance and health care industries. Starting from October 29, GitHub says that all enterprise cloud customers will be able to select an EU region to store all their code, though the company didn't specify which region(s) it will use or whether customers will be able to choose. GitHub's parent Microsoft has well over a dozen Azure cloud regions across the bloc.

Rise Against Announce Summer 2022 Tour With The Used + Senses Fail

UPDATE Rise Against also added new European tour dates for the fall.

Rise Against will take out The Used and Senses Fail for one of the more solid rock lineups of the summer. Rise Against will serve as headliners on the run, supporting their 2021 album, Nowhere Generation.

The tour gets underway June 15 in Las Vegas, continuing on for just over a month before it winds down Aug. 18 in Sterling Heights, Michigan. Dates, cities and venues can be seen below. Band pre-sales start tomorrow (March 1) at 10AM local time, with the local pre-sales following on Wednesday, March 2 at 10AM local time and the general public on-sale beginning this Friday (March 4) at 10AM local time. Head to Rise Against's website for ticketing details.

Rise Against are hitting the road with what is mostly viewed as an uptick in their career, with Nowhere Generation yielding four singles - "Broken Dreams, Inc.," "Nowhere Generation," "The Numbers" and "Talking to Ourselves" - and later spinning off a Nowhere Sessions EP.

The band has also just released a new synth-driven remix of "Talking to Ourselves" done by IDLES. Speaking about the track, singer Tim McIlrath stated, “I’ve never thought of our songs as ‘brave' or ‘bold,' I think of them as just common sense. When you feel that no one is listening to you, you tend to talk louder, and when you feel no one notices you, you start doing things to get their attention. That’s what this song is about.”

Rise Against, "Talking to Ourselves" (IDLES Inner Monologue Remix)

In addition, this past week singer Tim McIlrath hopped on a new cover from AWOLNATION , helping singer Aaron Bruno and his band perform Midnight Oil's '80s hit, "Beds Are Burning."  “I’ve known Aaron (@awolnation) for years now and am such a big fan of this song, so I was really excited to be a part of his band's remake of 'Beds Are Burning,'" stated McIlrath , then adding , "Even today, there are those who would rather ignore the parts of our past that make us uncomfortable than confront and teach them to the next generation. Midnight Oil’s message resonates today as much as it ever did, if not even more.”

Check out the cover below:

AWOLNATION featuring Rise Against's Tim McIlrath, "Beds Are Burning" (Midnight Oil Cover)

The Used's most recent album was 2020's Heartwork . "We are beyond excited to announce that we will be touring with our longtime friends and partners in crime, Rise Against," stated the group via their socials. Fans of The Used will want to take a closer look at the itinerary as there are four dates the band will not be a part of the bill.

And completing the lineup are Senses Fail, who underwent a little bit of controversy while deciding to take the tour. They just canceled their spring headline run with We Came as Romans, Counterparts and SeeYouSpaceCowboy before taking the newly announced summer dates.

In doing so, the band's Buddy Nielsen  issued a statement  detailing the reasoning for the touring change, pointing to supply chain issues delaying the release of their new album to July and noting that he and his wife were expecting a child early next month.

While the Hell Is In Your Head album has been pushed back, the band is continuing to release music with "I'm Sorry I'm Leaving" being the latest song to arrive in advance of the album. Neilsen says of the track, heard below,  ‘"I wrote this song about the constant struggling with making music and art as a living. I am constantly waiting for it to all fail and disappear even 20 years into a career. At no point do I ever feel safe. After having a child, the relationship with this lifestyle became more strained. Having to leave home and lose time with your child while also hoping that what you do continues to support your family and remains fulfilling is complicated. Continuing to improve and remove my own trauma in order to be a better father is the bases and goal of the song."

Senses Fail at Irving Plaza

Irving plaza, new york city, new york.

This September, post-hardcore powerhouse Senses Fail is celebrating the 15th anniversary of their 2008 effort, Life is Not a Waiting Room. The record remains the band’s highest charting effort, topping Billboard’s Independent chart and peaking at number 18 on the Billboard 200. This fall, the New Jersey natives will commemorate this groundbreaking work by performing the album in its entirety. That means Senses Fail goes beyond the officially released single, “Family Tradition,” and fans will get to experience all the tracks live! The Life is Not A Waiting Room Tour kicks off at the beginning of September, and the band will make its way across 28 cities, including a highly-coveted stop at the Irving Plaza in New York City! Accompanying the band will be their support acts, Holding Absence and Thousand Below, who will also promote their slew of new tracks from their latest albums, The Noble Art of Self Destruction and Hell Finds You Everywhere! Catch these hard-hitting post-hardcore outfits rock it out at the Irving Plaza by scoring your tickets now!

It seems like it was just yesterday when Senses Fail dropped their breakout hit, “Can’t Be Saved,” in 2007. At the time, the band was well into their sophomore album, and the single preceded the moderately welcomed debut singles “Buried a Lie” and “Rum is For Drinking, Not for Burning.” However, the release of “Can’t Be Saved” from their sophomore effort, Still Searching, had the whole emo and post-hardcore scene turn their heads toward the band. The young quintet from Ridgefield, New Jersey, had something to say, and they were making quite a loud statement.

True enough, the band is absolutely worth everyone’s attention. They even got the iconic independent record label (that houses all your favorite emo bands) to look their way. This resulted in the reissuing of their 2003 EP, From the Depths of Dreams. Before you know it, Senses Fail has scored some amazing gigs, including touring with The Used, Finch, The Starting Line, and Millencolin.

After belting out the iconic hit, “Can’t Be Saved,” which, by the way, went gold in the U.S., the band followed with the seventh and most successful single, “Family Tradition.” When the predecessor served as the band’s signal for music fans to look their way, “Family Tradition” demanded the fans to come over, have a drink, and never leave. The song became Sense Fail’s staple, and the record, along with its other tracks, helped establish the band as one of the major players in the post-hardcore scene. Sense Fail has already amassed a loyal following thanks to frontman and main songwriter Buddy Nielsen’s striking and honest lyrics.

This is why 15 years later, the band sets out on tour just to commemorate their exemplary work with Life is Not a Waiting Room. The album, produced in collaboration with Brian McTernan, was a by-product of the line-up – Nielsen and former bandmates, guitarists Garret Zablocki and Heath Saraceno, drummer Dan Trapp, and bassist Jason Black.

This 2023, Nielsen is joined by the band’s current line-up, and together they will deliver the album from start to finish. This pivotal moment will pretty much take up the entire September, with a few dates in October. Fans who miss out on this tour may never get to experience this opportunity again. So hurry and score tickets now to see Senses Fail deliver their groundbreaking album, Life is Not a Waiting Room, on stage at the Irving Plaza!
