Yellowstone vs Yosemite: Which national park to visit?

A traveller standing on a tree trunk in Yosemite National Park

Towering waterfalls or erupting geysers? Technicolour hot springs or massive granite monoliths? Oh, the decisions.

The UNESCO-listed Yellowstone and Yosemite  are two of the USA’s most beloved national parks . While both parks boast astounding natural beauty and a plethora of outdoor activities, you may be more drawn to one depending on what you’re hoping to see and do.

We’ve compiled the main differences between Yellowstone and Yosemite to help you decide which park to visit.

san francisco yellowstone tour

Which park is better for landscapes?

Yellowstone is home to 10,000 thermal features, including bubbling mud pots, steaming fumaroles and technicolour hot springs. Its otherworldly landscapes are the kind that must be seen to be believed. In fact, when early explorer John Colter returned from his Yellowstone expedition in 1807, people mocked his tales of the park.

One of Yellowstone’s most impressive features is Old Faithful, a huge cone geyser that shoots 14,000 litres of hot water in the air. This spectacle happens about 20 times daily and can last from two to five minutes. While these natural wonders are what most visitors come to see, the park’s canyons and forests are just as captivating. It’s also home to 290 waterfalls which flow all year thanks to the park’s cool temperate climate.

Yosemite doesn’t have geysers and fumaroles, but it does have spellbinding subalpine scenery with wide-open meadows, giant sequoia redwoods (one of the oldest trees on earth) and lakes so clear they reflect the surrounding peaks. Its glacially carved granite monoliths are some of the largest in the world, including the famous El Capitan and Half Dome – both of which attract hikers and climbers from near and far.

The park also boasts North America’s tallest waterfall – Yosemite Falls – which drops 739 metres over three tiers and will instill awe even in the most seasoned waterfall chasers, especially during the spring runoff.

The verdict

We’re not trying to be diplomatic, but both parks are spectacular in their own right. Yellowstone wins if you’re keen to see geothermal activity, while Yosemite takes the cake for postcard-perfect peaks and waterfalls.

Which park is better for wildlife?

Yellowstone is teeming with wildlife thanks to its remote location. It’s home to the largest concentration of mammals in the lower 48 states including elk, bison, moose, deer, grizzly bears, black bears and bighorn sheep.

Lamar Valley, dubbed the ‘Serengeti of North America’, is a great place to spot Yellowstone’s critters. You’re almost guaranteed to see large herds of bison on the road, bald eagles soaring overhead and bears grazing in the meadows. If you’re lucky, you may spot a wolf. For a better chance of seeing this elusive animal, you could join a wolf tracker for the day .

Yosemite’s rich habitat is home to a wide range of wildlife including black bears, bighorn sheep, bobcats, mule deer and coyotes. However, it’s nowhere near as diverse as Yellowstone. As a smaller and busier park, animals can also be trickier to spot as they retreat from crowds.

That said, bird watchers will be in their element with over 260 bird species thanks to the park’s high elevation. Keep your eyes peeled for Steller’s jay, sooty grouse, dark-eyed junco, ravens and more.

If you’re a keen wildlife enthusiast, you’ll probably enjoy Yellowstone more. It’s a larger park with less foot traffic, so you’ll likely encounter a wide range of animals on your journey.

Which park is better for hiking?

Hiking in Yellowstone is one of the best ways to experience its unique geothermal features. There are over 2600 kilometres of trails to explore, and while the peaks aren’t as high as Yosemite’s, they boast stunning vistas over the Rockies. The trails are also quieter, so you may be more likely to encounter a four-legged creature than a fellow trekker.

Yosemite is one of the USA’s top hiking destinations with over 1280 kilometres of trails. Shaped by millions of years of glacial activity, hiking will take you around and up soaring monoliths, through open meadows, along the banks of pristine lakes and everything in between.

From leisurely strolls to high-country expeditions, Yosemite offers hiking adventures for all. Put your stamina to the test by summiting the iconic Half Dome or El Capitan, stroll around the Mariposa Grove of giant sequoias or smell the wildflowers in Yosemite Valley.

While both parks are a playground for hikers, Yosemite has more world-renowned trails and spellbinding summits. The only downside is that it’s usually more crowded, so if you prefer hiking in solitude, you might prefer Yellowstone.

Which park is more accessible?

The majority of Yellowstone is in northwest Wyoming. There are five entrances, all of which are super spread out, so planning is important. There’s no public transport to or within the park, so you must drive or join a tour. If you’re travelling from further afield, the closest airports are West Yellowstone (west entrance – summer only), Jackson Hole (south entrance), Bozeman (north and west entrance), and Montana Logan (northeast and east entrance).

Most of Yellowstone’s visitor centres and major attractions are wheelchair accessible, including sections of the Grand Canyon, Mammoth Springs and Old Faithful. Campgrounds also have at least one wheelchair-accessible campsite (excluding Slough Creek, Tower Fall, Fishing Bridge and Pebble Creek).

Yosemite is in the heart of the Sierra Nevada Range in California. Most visitors drive to the park, but there are public buses from major cities in California. Amtrak also provides a combination of train and bus services to Yosemite Valley. Once in the park, you can take the free Yosemite Valley shuttle around Yosemite Valley. It’s well-connected with major airports, with the closest being Merced (2 hours), Fresno and Mammoth-Yosemite (2.5 hours), Oakland (3 hours) and San Francisco (4 hours).

Yosemite has wheelchair-accessible lodges, campsites and visitor centres. It has more than 19 kilometres of paved trails along the Lower Yosemite Falls area where you can see the main attractions.

Many areas of Yellowstone and Yosemite are accessible for travellers with disabilities with accessible trails, facilities and wheelchair-friendly accommodation. The National Park Service (NPS) also offers an  Interagency Access Pass  which provides free lifetime access to US national parks to people who are blind or have permanent disabilities.

Visit the official NPS app  for up-to-date accessibility information for facilities and trails.

If you’re on a budget or pushed for time, Yosemite may be a better option as there a few public transport options.

So, which national park is best for you?

If you have limited time and want huge peaks and jaw-dropping views, Yosemite may be up your alley. If you’re looking for wildlife and wilderness adventures, Yellowstone won’t disappoint. Regardless of which park you visit, the possibilities for adventure are endless.

The most direct route from San Francisco to Yellowstone is around 950 miles and will take just over 14 hours of straight driving to get there. That's not counting stops to eat, use the washroom, and load up on gas.

So even if you did set out early in the morning from San Francisco, and kept breaks to a minimum, you wouldn't be arriving at Yellowstone until late in the evening.

If you're planning to camp, you'll be arriving too late to set up the tent and even if you're staying in a hotel, you'll most likely be coming in way after dinner service is finished.

Since you're driving anyway, a much better idea is to break up the road trip into 2 or more days so you can enjoy some of the sights along the way.

With so many amazing places to see, stunning national parks and must-see detours along the way, taking 3-4 days to drive each way will give you lots of options on the way and when you come back, keeping the amount of driving per day to a more relaxing 4 to 5 hours.

From Twin Falls, you can follow interstates I-84, I-86 and I-15 all the way to Idaho Falls. From there, US-20 will take you past Rexburg and all the way to the West Entrance into the national park near West Yellowstone.

With such a scenic route, you absolutely must make a few overnight stops along the way to make the most of the sights and nature. Depending on how much time you've got on your hands, here are some places to stop for you to consider on your way from San Francisco to Yellowstone.

Relax on a short detour to Lake Tahoe

Although it'll add about 45 minutes onto your journey, a detour to Lake Tahoe might be the perfect way to spend a night en route to Yellowstone.

If you're planning to set off from San Francisco after work, it'll take you around 3 hours 30 minutes to reach South Lake Tahoe - perfect for stopping over allowing plenty of time for driving the next day.

Hotels here can be incredibly expensive but Black Bear Lodge is a perfect combination of luxury and great value for money in South Lake Tahoe .

Sitting right between the emerald waters of the lake and Heavenly Ski Resort, every room in this boutique hotel comes with a cozy fireplace and you're a short walk away from a selection of restaurants.

Clear water of Lake Tahoe with the snow capped mountains in the background on the California - Nevada border.

Stop over in Twin Falls, Idaho

Twin Falls is the first major city on your road trip after you enter the state of Idaho. There isn't much to do or many places to stop in northern Nevada so if you've made the long drive in one day, Twin Falls is the perfect place to set up camp.

The Shoshone Falls on Snake River are a few minutes away and well worth seeing whether you're stopping or not. Further out, you can make visits to Boise or Sun Valley or go see the lava fields in the Craters of the Moon National Monument.

Your choice of hotels is limited to the usual chains so you can pick your favorite option - we recommend La Quinta Inn & Suites for its perfect location and a selection of places to eat within walking distance .

Whether you've driven the 11+ hours straight from San Francisco or made the 8-hour road trip from South Lake Tahoe, you'll want to stretch your legs!

Things to see on a road trip from San Francisco to Yellowstone National Park

As I mentioned above, although you COULD do the entire road trip in one day, I'd recommend you actually see some of the amazing nature and sights along the way. Take a few days, stop over and add some of the below to your itinerary.

  • Sacramento - California's capital is a quirky city and a great spot for brunch if you're setting off from San Francisco in the morning.
  • Tahoe National Forest - Directly on the route, you'll pass through the groves and mountains as you make your way up the I-80
  • Yosemite National Park - If you're up for a significant detour (about 3 hours added onto your trip), you can cross the Sierra Nevada further south and head for Yosemite National Park. This way you'll visit arguably the two most famous national parks in the country on the same trip
  • Lake Tahoe - On the way if you pass further south across the Sierra Nevada Mountains and a perfect place to relax with the beautiful lake surrounded by snow-capped peaks
  • Shoshone Falls - Located in Twin Falls, Idaho, these magnificent falls drop more than 200 feet down into Snake River. There are plenty of viewpoints around, so you'll be sure to get a good angle of these falls.
  • Perrine Memorial Bridge - Also located near Twin Falls, the southern canyon of Snake River features ten miles of walking trails, plus an incredible view of the Perrine Memorial Bridge. For the adrenaline junkies, tandem BASE jumping off the bridge will definitely get your heart rate going.
  • Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve - If you've wondered what it's like to be on the moon, wonder no longer - this desolate landscape with buttes and lava fields has an otherworldly feel.
  • Grand Teton National Park - Located just South of Yellowstone National Park, you can hike through the breathtaking Teton Mountain Range. Bring your camera along so you can photograph the hundreds of different bird species living in the area
  • Jackson - A charming town famous as the gateway to the Jackson Hole ski resort.
  • Island Park - You'll pass through the valley and the adjoining Caribou-Targhee National Forest on your way up to West Yellowstone. There are endless activities whether you're coming in the summer or winter and this is one of my favorite secret places in the United States.
  • Yellowstone National Park - Let's not forget the reason you came here! Head over to visit the Old Faithful geyser, which continues to erupt on schedule. Stand in awe at the colors of the Grand Prismatic Spring. Visit Yellowstone Lake, the Mammoth Hot Springs, and the Yellowstone Caldera along with endless other sights and natural wonders.

Best time to go on a road trip from San Francisco to Yellowstone National Park

If you're interested in exploring Yellowstone National Park, the best time to go is during the milder months of April to May or September to October. You'll find the weather isn't too harsh, plus the park itself won't be too crowded.

July and August are still amazing months to visit Yellowstone, but the warm weather will bring in more crowds. The good news is that Yellowstone National Park is so huge, you won't be running into other hikers or campers too often even in peak season.

The route you decide to take from San Francisco to Yellowstone will also help determine when the best time to go is. Driving across Nevada in the summer will feel very hot. From June to August expect temperatures to frequently break the 100 degrees Fahrenheit mark.

While the milder spring and fall months are the best time to go visit the park, don't discount a winter trip. It will be very cold and you'll need to remember that the roads leading into Yellowstone close for the winter season, but you can stay just outside in Island Park or West Yellowstone and head into the park on a snowmobile.

Alternatively, pack your skis for some cross-country skiing, and make sure you carry your camera with you. Animals will stand out better against the white snowy background.

No matter when you decide to go, you'll want to spend a few days as a minimum, in Yellowstone to really appreciate the park. The longer you can stay the more you'll discover and the more time you'll have to visit different parts of the park.

San Francisco Fetes Trump on Post-Conviction Fundraising Tour

(Bloomberg) -- Donald Trump raised millions of dollars from technology industry leaders at a campaign event in San Francisco hosted by investor David Sacks that signaled growing interest from Silicon Valley in the former president's comeback bid.

Wealthy donors converged Thursday at Sacks’s home in San Francisco, where the presumptive Republican nominee addressed attendees for roughly an hour on topics ranging from cryptocurrency to artificial intelligence to preventing deep fakes.

The sold-out dinner brought in $12 million for Trump’s reelection effort, Harmeet Dhillon, a member of the Republican National Committee who attended the fundraiser, posted on social media site X. The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request to comment about the money raised.

“It was a crowd who writes big checks,” said Dhillon, a lawyer who counts Trump as a client. Many crypto founders were in the room, she said, along with donors who had previously supported other Republican candidates or Democrats in the past. “It was very encouraging.”

Sacks co-hosted the event at Broadcliff, his house in the Pacific Heights neighborhood, along with investor Chamath Palihapitiya.

With tickets that started at $50,000 for a reception and photo and $300,000 for the dinner, the event generated intense interest in Silicon Valley, particularly because it came on the heels of Trump’s conviction in New York on 34 counts of falsifying records .

On Thursday night, several blocks of the tony Pacific Heights neighborhood were blocked off with barricades for the event. Puzzled passersby paused to watch crowds of flag-waving pro-Trump demonstrators.

That verdict has been followed by a swell of support for Trump in some corners of the tech world, including from Doug Leone , a former leader at the prestigious venture firm Sequoia Capital, and Shaun Maguire, a Sequoia partner who  said last week he was giving $300,000 to Trump’s reelection. Other donors include Jacob Helberg, a senior adviser to the chief executive officer of Palantir Technologies Inc., who also planned to attend the fundraiser, according to a person familiar with the matter who asked not to be identified discussing private information.

The crowd included tech industry figures like crypto entrepreneurs and investors Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, Dhillon said, the twins most famous for their claim that they had the original idea for Facebook. Trump implied they'd been cheated out of fair returns.

Trump has enjoyed unusually vocal support from the tech industry this election cycle — a contrast to 2016, when billionaire Peter Thiel was one of his only visible supporters. (Thiel has said he plans to sit out this cycle .) In addition to dining with Sacks and Palihapitiya this week, Trump will  travel to Southern California, where he’s slated to attend another fundraiser on Saturday hosted by Palmer Luckey, the co-founder of Anduril Industries Inc., a tech company that makes defense and weapons technology and is doing business with the US government.

David Friedberg, an investor who co-hosts the popular All-In podcast with Sacks and Palihapitiya, said in an email that tech’s interest in politics isn’t new. “Silicon Valley has always had political engagement, as far back as 20+ years ago many of the senior leaders and investors I knew in Silicon Valley were active one way or another politically,” he wrote. “Maybe political activism gets more attention nowadays given the increasing influence Silicon Valley has over the world and a reshaping media landscape.”

While the industry tends to lean Democratic and San Francisco is a heavily Blue city, tech leaders’ political preferences are often diffuse. Top issues include taxes, tech antitrust and crypto regulation — as well as foreign policy and immigration rules. Many tech players have donated to both parties. For example, Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz of the prominent firm Andreessen Horowitz have given to a range of causes, and have disavowed political affiliations. Instead they have taken an anti-regulation stance. The firm has said it will support candidates who are pro-tech, regardless of other issues — espousing a “techno-optimist”  philosophy laid out by Andreessen in a manifesto last year.

Sacks, an investor and friend of Elon Musk, previously backed Florida Governor Ron DeSantis before throwing his support to Trump. He says he wants to put an end to Biden administration policies such as supporting the war in Ukraine. “The world’s on fire,” he said in a recent interview, adding that when Trump was in power previously, “they had four years of relative peace in the world.” Palihapitiya previously supported Democratic candidates in earlier races.

Trump is widely expected to appear alongside them on the All-In podcast, though an exact date for the taping has not been set.

“The voters have experienced four years of President Trump and four years of President Biden. In tech, we call this an A/B test,” Sacks posted on social media. “With respect to economic policy, foreign policy, border policy, and legal fairness, Trump performed better. He is the President who deserves a second term.”

For much of this cycle, President Joe Biden has been ahead in fundraising, including among donors from technology-related industries. The president and allied political action committees raised $18.1 million from donors with ties to the electronics and communications industries through May 21, according to campaign finance data compiled by OpenSecrets. Trump and his allies have received just $1.4 million from that sector during that timeframe.

While Trump’s event this week has attracted more attention, Biden has also been to Silicon Valley for fundraisers, including ones hosted by venture capitalist Vinod Khosla of Khosla Ventures and former Yahoo executive Marissa Mayer. This week, Vice President Kamala Harris is also in the Bay Area, and is attending  fundraising events.

Nasa astronauts give tour of boeing starliner after arriving at international space station.

NASA astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore took the public on a live tour of the Boeing Starliner on Saturday, two days after docking their spacecraft at the International Space Station.

Williams and Wilmore docked at the ISS on Thursday, a little more than 24 hours after becoming the first astronauts to launch on Starliner and United Launch Alliance’s Atlas V rocket from Cape Canaveral, Fla.

The veteran astronauts and Navy test pilots are conducting the Crew Flight Test of Boeing’s spacecraft to certify the vehicle for future astronaut missions to the space station.

The tour on NASA TV was the first look inside Starliner since before launch.

The spacecraft’s software system doesn’t support live video, so once it was docked at the space station, the astronauts could use the ISS cameras and microphones.

“Let’s go on board the Starliner, where there was a little bit of action the other day,” Williams said.

The astronaut and retired U.S. Navy captain was likely referring to being the first humans to launch in Boeing’s Starliner capsule on Wednesday and their exciting rendezvous with the International Space Station on Thursday.

Williams and Wilmore took turns holding the camera to show the view from the capsule cockpit and the controls of Starliner.

Both astronauts wore their “Fly Navy” T-shirts. Williams brought a collection of fun socks into orbit and was sporting her American Flag socks.

Both astronauts have reviewed their trip on the Starliner positively so far.

They will spend more than a week on the ISS before returning to Earth and landing in New Mexico.

The tour on NASA TV was the first look inside Starliner since before launch.

“The spacecraft has handled remarkably well. Much better even than the simulator, and it’s just a positive event from start to finish,” Wilmore said.

The astronauts said they performed an emergency drill over the weekend , running through an event as though they would need to evacuate the ISS and use the Starliner as a lifeboat.

For this trip with only two crew, the spacecraft could carry more cargo.

Wilmore and Williams pointed out bags packed with emergency supplies, oxygen masks and other items that took up a lot of legroom inside.

“It’s actually fairly roomy for just Suni and myself with just the two of us,” Wilmore said.

When it’s not dark, the astronauts have a view of space from the front window of Starliner.

Williams closed the tour with remarks about the future missions for Starliner.

“It’s really awesome to showcase our new spacecraft, Starliner, and show them that we can take people up here, and we’ll be hopefully rotating more and more people to the International Space Station this way, as well as our friends from Dragon and our friends who came in the Soyuz,” Williams said. “So pretty spectacular event to have humans orbiting the planet, and now we have a number of ways to get people here.”

Starliner’s arrival marked the first time three vehicles capable of flying humans to space, including SpaceX’s Crew Dragon and the Russian Soyuz, were docked at the ISS. The next astronauts to launch on Starliner will be the first long-duration mission using the spacecraft called Starliner-1.

San francisco giants at texas rangers odds, picks and predictions, share this article.

The San Francisco Giants (31-33) and Texas Rangers (30-33) meet Saturday for the 2nd game of a 3-game series. First pitch from Globe Life Field is set for 4:05 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s  lines around the Giants vs. Rangers odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: San Francisco leads 1-0

San Francisco picked up the 5-2 win in Friday’s series opener while covering as a -117 road favorite. The Giants broke the 2-2 tie thanks to a 2-run shot from LF  Michael Conforto  in the 7th. The Giants have won back-to-back games while the Rangers are 1-3 in their last 4 outings.

The Rangers are just 15-16 at home thus far as they continue to be stuck in neutral. They are tied for 10th with 4.4 R/game and are 11th with a 3.87 ERA. SS Corey Seager (hamstring) remains day-to-day after leaving with a hamstring injury Wednesday.

Giants at Rangers projected starters

TBD vs. LHP Andrew Heaney

The Giants have a 4.45 ERA (25th), 1.33 WHIP (T26th), 8.71 K/9 (11th) and have allowed 63 HR (12th)

  • SF is 21st with a 4.42 starters’ ERA.
  • SF is 24th with a 4.45 bullpen ERA.

Heaney (2-6, 3.99 ERA) makes his 12th start. He has a 1.30 WHIP, 2.2 BB/9 and 8.5 K/9 through 56 1/3 innings.

  • Last start: 6 IP, 0 ER, 4 H, 0 BB, 7 K in a 6-0 win over Miami Sunday

Giants at Rangers odds

  • Moneyline (ML) : Giants +116 (bet $100 to win $116) | Rangers -136 (bet $136 to win $100)
  • Run line (RL)/Against the spread (ATS) : Giants +1.5 (-178) | Rangers -1.5 (+146)
  • Over/Under (O/U) : 8.5 (O: -112 | U: -108)

Giants at Rangers picks and predictions

Giants 3, Rangers 1

LEAN GIANTS (+116).

San Francisco has won back-to-back road games while the Rangers are only 1-3 in their last 4 home games. The Giants have also won in back-to-back matchups vs. Texas overall, also being 2-1 in the last 3 meetings in Texas.

This is a lean because the Giants are only 2-6 in their last 8 overall and because Texas is 6-4 in its last 10 while San Francisco is 4-6 in its last 10.

Run line/Against the spread

I expect the Giants to cover here as +1.5 (-178) underdogs, but they are not worth the risk of betting on as the line is currently set. Bet on the moneyline and/or total instead.

BET UNDER 8.5 (-108).

The Under has hit in 3 of Texas’ last 4 home games, being 7-2-1 in its last 10 overall. For San Francisco, the Under is 2-2 in its last 4 road games. The Under has also hit in back-to-back San Francisco-Texas matchups, being 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.

Be aware that the Over is 6-4 in San Francisco’s last 10 outings.

Taylor Knibb imperious in winning the San Francisco T100

Taylor Knibb imperious in winning the San Francisco T100

American Taylor Knibb was dominant in winning the San Francisco T100 today on the iconic Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon course. She was second out of the water, but quickly took the lead on the bike from Switzerland’s Imogen Simmonds and went on to register an impressive victory by just under 4 minutes.

She was humble speaking afterwards. “It did not feel easy but it is a great course and atmosphere out there – and I was very grateful to do this race today.”

“On the swim I dove in, probably a little late, and the one thing I’d been given advice on was that you dive into the water and everyone disperses and that didn’t happen. But it was like, get to the end, figure it out, and I saw Imogen, she got 30 seconds on everyone, and I thought ‘oh my God’. But I think seeing the men really helped because I was ready for everyone to be there [together].”

“Once I was in the lead [on the bike], I wasn’t descending very well, I wasn’t taking the corners very well but I was trying to be better each lap. So, I think on the fifth lap I finally nailed the one turn into the curb, uphill.”

On her 18km run, she said: “Well I just wanted to execute a good run and run well and see how it was, like see how it was after each lap and make decisions from there.”

Second placed Brit Kat Matthews , who made a late dash to San Francisco after her disqualification in Hamburg last weekend, was pleased with her performance.

“I’m pretty proud. I’m glad to have been able to have given Taylor a training day out before her Olympic prep begins,” she said with a smile on her face.

Asked if she hadn’t got the rub of the green this year so far, Matthews responded:

“I’m not sure I’ve had the luckiest two years to be honest. But I think there was something special about this. I had so much energy for this after my dramas from last weekend and maybe a good long taper actually suits me.”

“This race feels like I’ve just got back level – a redemption of my own personal performance. I’m still now desperate for that personal satisfaction to go more, to go higher.”

How The Race Unfolded

The women’s San Francisco T100 race got underway with a dive from the San Francisco Spirit into icy sea waters known to play host to sharks. As with the men, it was a choppy affair in San Francisco Bay but canny use of the currents saw Imogen Simmonds (SUI) meet dry land in first place, clocking 17:00 in the water – 23 seconds ahead of pre-race favourite and T100 debutant Taylor Knibb (USA).

Despite the challenging gradients of the 80km bike leg, Knibb – recently crowned the US national time trial champion – was soon in the lead and pulling away from every other woman. By halfway into the bike course, Knibb’s lead to second-place Kat Matthews (GBR) was over 2 minutes, the Brit clearly positioning herself as the best of the rest. Laura Philipp (GER), Simmonds and Paula Findlay (CAN) were the only other challengers within 4 minutes of the leader.

From there, Knibb’s inexorable pace on two wheels just continued to pad her advantage in a showing that’s sure to strike fear into her Olympic competitors in both the triathlon and cycling time trial in Paris. 3:45 at 15km to go and 4:45 as she entered a lonely transition area, Knibb was truly showing her once-in-a-generation talent.

With impressive pace for an athlete considered a swim-biker just a couple of years ago, Knibb continued to dominate once she’d laced up her running shoes, lapping athletes over 4km behind her on the course.

Behind, Matthews was running with her usual aplomb while Emma Pallant-Browne (GBR) picked off a couple of places in a fleet-footed performance.

Facing no threat to her maiden T100 victory, Knibb took in the crowd’s adulation on her way to a 3:38:01 finish, earning 35 points and $25,000.

Matthews’ run pedigree shone through, the Brit a minute faster than Knibb on two feet, but was still 3:45 behind when she claimed 2nd to score 28 points and $16,000.

Philipp ran strongly to maintain her podium position, beginning her T100 season with 25 points and $12,000.

Likewise, Simmonds stayed in the 4th place position she’d been holding since T2 for 22 points. Meanwhile, Pallant-Browne put her first 20 points on the board to round out the top 5.

The next T100 race will be in London on 27-28 July.
