What Inspired my Modern Jungle Classroom Decor Pack?
Whether we realize it or not, the decor on our walls conveys a meaning. When I created this pack, I wanted something bold, yet minimalistic, and I’m happy to say that’s what I created with this modern jungle classroom decor pack. Using neutral colors, empowering quotes, and fierce animals, I wanted it to convey strength. But more than that, I wanted to send a message that my class walks on the wild side. (Yes, that was a Lion King reference.)
Ultimately the characteristics that tigers have are what we want to instill in our students, right? The ability to lead fiercely, be independent, and exhibit bravery are great traits to instill in our kiddos. That’s what I channeled when creating this pack. Its combination of fierce tigers and muted prints are the perfect combination to motivate and empower the students within your classroom.
Take a Peek at the Modern Jungle Classroom Decor
Interested in bringing my modern jungle classroom decor to life in your classroom? I love that this pack isn’t visually overwhelming. I wanted a safari themed decor suited for a calming classroom environment. All of the included resources follow a neutral color palette and show quiet strength. Let’s take a look at some of the different resources included below.
2D and 3D Shape Posters
These modern jungle shape posters are perfectly minimalistic, which allows students to focus on the content itself without distraction. Each poster depicts the shape and each of its attributes. 3D shape posters are also included in the bundle!
Alphabet Posters
Available in print letters or cursive, each alphabet poster has a different black and white clipart image of an animal to correlate to each letter. The cute clipart images lend perfectly to the modern jungle theme while giving students concrete examples of animals that represent each letter.
Binder Covers
These teacher binder covers include safari animals such as leopards and giraffes with a modern safari feel. I already have covers available for student information, RTI documents, parent contact information, lesson plans, data, pacing guides, grade book, monthly resources, differentiated instruction, and substitute information. I’ve included an editable template so that you can add your own text to create binder covers to fit your classroom needs. Choose between 1-inch and 3-inch spines when you download!
Modern Jungle Bulletin Board Borders and Kit
I love that the bulletin board border and kit included with this modern jungle classroom decor set create cohesiveness throughout your classroom. Featuring the key colors of black, white, tan, burnt orange, and hunter green, these borders, and the corresponding kit, can be used in several different ways to mix and match your bulletin boards while still coordinating them with the overall theme.
Calendar & Day of the Week
Featuring the same neutral palette, this large jungle themed calendar kit is neat and appealing. Allow students to interact with these tools by sticking the velcro pieces onto the correct spot. This calendar can be enlarged and printed at your local print shop! (Printing directions included.)
Days of School Ten Frame Countdown Chart
This Days of School Ten Frame Chart helps students practice several things, such as place value, using a tens frame, and basic number identification. This is the perfect tool to continue recognizing and counting down the days students have been in the building. Kind of bittersweet! Counters are included with this resource.
Jungle Theme Quote Posters
Minimalistic inspirational posters can be added to your bulletin board, classroom door, or other areas throughout your room to keep students motivated. These quotes are simple and to the point, reminding students to embrace their inner bravery and strength.
Neutral Classroom Supply Labels
I love organization, so having matching neutral classroom supply labels to stick on all of my supply buckets is *chef’s kiss* amazing! Help students keep track of where pencils, crayons, scissors, or other community supplies go by using these supply labels featuring matching clipart images. These labels come in two different formats: round and rectangular. Choose the format that works best for your supply buckets.
Teacher Drawer Bin Labels
These teacher drawer bin labels help get you organized. These labels are the perfect asset to help you keep track of which papers need to be copied, laminated, graded, and filed, among other things. Attach these to your tiered trays and drawer systems for added organization.
Teacher Toolbox Labels
Similar to the drawer bin labels, these teacher toolbox labels are a way to help you keep things neat. I love these labels because they’re small enough to fit on anything I need them to. These labels first two different types of toolboxes. My favorite toolbox to use these with is linked below!
Check out my favorite teacher toolbox here in my Classroom Essentials for First Year Teachers post.
Classroom Voice Level Chart
Manage your classroom behaviors and voice levels with this simple voice level chart . Add a piece of velcro and switch out voice levels throughout the day.

Safari Classroom Transformation
Ready to head to the African savannah and find wild animals? You’re able to bring a safari right to your classroom with the Safari Classroom Transformation! This transformation is super easy to set up and is the perfect way to practice academic skills while having fun. My class LOVED pretending they were in the African plains visiting wild animals up close. This transformation aligns with multiple common core standards and is perfect for grades K-5.
(This post contains affiliate links. By purchasing through this link, we get a small commission–at no additional cost to you. Rest assured – we only share links to products that we use and love!)
STEP 1: SETTING THE STAGE FOR YOUR SAFARI CLASSROOM TRANSFORMATION
Tell your class they are going on a safari right in your classroom!! Students will be reviewing different skills around the room at each station. The challenges can be completed in any order.
And the best part? You as the teacher are able to easily choose how many challenges students complete / what time frame they have to meet YOUR needs.
Setting up is really easy. Simply print the posters, challenges, and a recording sheet for each student. Place them around your room and you’re ready to begin! You can decorate as much or as little as you want to. Everything is included for you so it’s easy to pick and choose what you want to put up on this special day.
I print out the included posters and put them up around the room. It can also be a lot of fun to decorate the door with the safari posters so students see this as soon as they enter the school.
I also like to buy a few items from Amazon to display around the room. I also put monkeys all around the room to set the scene! Students loved seeing them when they walked in.
“Extras” certainly aren’t needed for room transformations, but they can be super fun if you want to include them! If you want to add any additional decorations, you may like some of these ideas:
Looking for even more ideas? I’ve got you covered right here with my Classroom Transformation Decoration Lists!
STEP 2: PREPARE FOR STUDENTS TO ARRIVE
On each student’s desk, I put an admission ticket that really gets them excited for our day together. Many of my students enjoy using the admission ticket as a bookmark for the rest of the week too.
Putting a name tag on their desk for them to wear while working can add in some extra pizzazz too. I let them tape it to their shirt with a piece of masking tape so it’s no extra work for me.
Another important thing to do is add directions to your whiteboard or Smart TV for students to see when they enter. This lets students know what to expect and sets the scene right from the beginning. You can actually grab this slide for FREE along with 40 Free Room Transformation Slides! Scroll up a bit and you’ll see the link. It’s completely customizable so you can edit it to say whatever you prefer. There are plenty of options included in the free download for many room transformation themes.
I print out the station posters and challenges. These get placed around the room. Students will travel around the room during the safari classroom transformation and complete a challenge at each poster. I set this up in the morning before my students come in so everything’s ready to go. Set-up is quick and easy.
STEP 3: HOW TO COMPLETE THE SAFARI CLASSROOM TRANSFORMATION
When all students have arrived, set your expectations for the day. Make sure students know that this is a learning experience and a privilege. If you put behavior expectations in place before starting, the room transformation will run much more smoothly and set you up to have a GREAT day.
There are a few things to consider discussing with your class before beginning…how will they be working? In groups? Partners? Independently? Do they get to choose? How many challenges will they need to complete before they finish? How much time will they have to complete the activities? Do they need to show their work? What will they do when they’re done? Decide the answers to these questions beforehand so you can prepare students for a wonderful experience.
When you’re ready to begin, explain to students they will receive a recording sheet and will be going around the room to complete different challenges! Each time they finish a challenge, they need to bring you both the challenge they completed and their recording sheet for you to mark.
You can see in this example that the student finished the “Elephant Challenge”, so I initialed that box on their recording sheet. When students finish a challenge, they get to choose another one to complete. Sometimes I have my class do all 10 challenges, and sometimes I only have them complete 5 or 6. It just depends on the class, the day, and what skill we’re working on. Do what works best for your class. These room transformations are meant to be flexible and are also 100% editable! If there’s a skill your students haven’t learned yet, or you live in a state where that standard doesn’t apply, simply edit the content to what you need instead.

While students are working, I find it’s best to either circle the room to “touch base” with how students are doing or stay in one central location where students can come to you to be checked. This is also a perfect opportunity to invite parent volunteers into the classroom so they can help you check student papers.
I like to have students work in partners or table groups so kids can help each other while working. This means there are less students coming over to me frequently with papers needing to be checked and allows me to help struggling students who may get stuck.
STEP 4: WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU’RE DONE?
When students finish all of their work, I like to reward them with a small prize. It can be something simple like a pencil, a dojo point, a HW pass, or something safari themed! My favorite choice is giving a stuffed monkey to each student!
My students always get a certificate to take home with them too. This creates a great talking point for students with parents when they see it. Parents will ask what the certificate is for and students always really enjoy explaining what we did in class that day. I’ve gotten many happy emails from parents thanking me for doing activities like this with their child–and they found out about it through the certificate in their child’s backpack!
When students start to finish, they’re going to start saying “now what?”. Make sure to have an activity ready to go for those fast finishers so everyone else can continue working. I like to have students learn fun facts about African animals during this time. This is included for you in 3 formats so you can choose the one that works best for you.
- You can print out the posters and hang them around the room. Then, students travel around the room and copy down the fun facts.
- Print out the QR codes and hide them around your room. Students scan the QR codes with a tablet and write down the fun facts on a sheet of paper.
- Let them use the Google Slides version! Students click on safari characters to “hunt down” the fun facts.
Do you have younger-aged students? Or maybe you would like your students to do something independently at their seats after they finish? A coloring page can be a great activity for students who finish early too. Let students relax those brains with some artwork in the coloring page provided for you. When I choose this option, I let students decide between hanging the picture on the side of their desk for the rest of the week or taking it home to show their parents.
And that’s it! That’s the step by step guide on how to complete a Safari Classroom Transformation! Keep reading for some additional tips to make your day even more fun!
DIGITAL CLASSROOM TRANSFORMATIONS
I also offer all room transformations in a DIGITAL format! This means students can complete the challenges on Google Slides if you’d like to save on paper. The QR codes/fun facts also come in a digital game format that students can complete and copy down online. You can learn more about how to do a digital room transformation here.
Things to Consider Before Doing a Safari Room Transformation
What will students do while waiting for the fun to begin.
If your class is anything like mine, they all come in at different times in the morning. Arrival is a 30 minute long period. I can’t have students start to complete activities right away or half of my class would miss the instructions. To keep students busy while they wait for everyone to arrive, I like to make them put together a hat that they can wear during the room transformation!
Or, choose a hat you can add a nametag to!
And the kids who come in later can have a friend help them put one together quickly or opt out of the hat. Remember, making a hat certainly isn’t necessary but having something in place for your students when they come in is ! Other ideas include reading a book or completing a morning work activity of your choosing while they wait for the room transformation activity to begin.
Make sure you know where student work will go when students finish.

Classroom Transformation Series: Create a Wild Animal Safari Classroom Transformation in 6 Easy Steps
It’s time for our final post of our 4 part Classroom Transformation Series ! We want to give you the steps to do an easy safari classroom transformation! Our goal during this series is to show busy teachers that room transformations don’t have to be time consuming or difficult. And your students will absolutely LOVE the experiences you create for them! Find out more below, as we talk about bringing the animal safari theme to your classroom!
If you missed week 1, we shared how to transform your classroom into a campground. Check it out here!
For week 2, we talked all about creating a Hollywood movie theater theme. Find out all of the fun details here !
Week 3 was all about creating a Boot Camp theme. See the details here!
Why Do Classroom Transformations?
- Students learn more when they are engaged.
- It’s fun to transform the look of your learning environment.
- Bring excitement into otherwise un-engaging topics.
- Create memorable classroom experiences for students.
- Transformations can be recreated year after year.
Students love wild animals and we do too! It’s such an easy theme to bring to life in your classroom and a bonus is that kids are naturally drawn to learning about wild animals. Read on to find out 6 ways to create a wild animal safari classroom transformation experience for your students.
Create a Wild Animal Safari Atmosphere
This theme is one that creates a HUGE impact with very little cost to you. Your students will be transported to the Serengeti of Africa as soon as they step foot into the classroom. Desks or tables will be the highlight of this room transformation when you turn them into Jeeps using only butcher paper and paper plates.
To create these Safari Jeeps, all you need to do is measure the length and height of the desk or table you would like to use. Cut a piece of white butcher paper the same length and height of the desk or table. Use black butcher paper cut into long rectangles and glue them to the white paper. Finally, cut a black circle a little larger than the size of a paper plate and glue it behind the plate.
It’s also very simple to crumple long strips of green paper and drape them from the ceiling to resemble jungle vines. Simple green plastic tablecloths draped from the ceiling or hanging down the walls also creates a jungle feel. Add a plastic safari hat for each student and you’re ready to go!
Take Your Students on a Virtual Safari
What if you and your students could experience a safari from the comfort of your own classroom? Thanks to YouTube, that’s possible! Your kids will love seeing all the wild animals in their natural habitat and will learn some cool facts along the way!
Use Wild Animal Resources
There are so many great resources that fit this theme and cover necessary standards at the same time. If you teach standards about animal life cycles and adaptations, check out this Animal Safari Exploration Unit. Your students will complete 5 tasks in order to become a safari guide while reviewing what they learned about life cycles, adaptations, survival and more!
Are you tired of boring animal research projects? Your students will be begging to work on their research reports when they use these wild animal articles! We’ve made it simple for students to find the facts they need for 10 engaging and interesting animals.
Play Safari Games
These game ideas are perfect for brain breaks or an extra recess reward.
Catch a Tiger by its Tail: Students must chase the tiger and, you guessed it, try to catch her by the tail. When she is caught she throws out candy and escapes again while all the children are collecting and scooping it up. Then the chase is on again! This game continues until all the candy is gone. To make a tail you can use something as simple as a scrap of cloth or rope tied around your waist with a long piece hanging down the back.
Animal Charades: Just like the classic version of charades, students will act out a wild safari animal using only hand motions. Their classmates will try to guess what animal they are acting out.
Safari Animal Hunt: For this safari game you’ll need to print out pictures of many different animals and their animal babies and glue them on index cards. Divide the baby animals among all the players and hide the mommy animals throughout the playing area. The children must help find the mommy animal for every baby animal card they have.
Enjoy a Wild Safari Snack
There are lots of different animal themed snacks you could pick up at the grocery store like zebra cakes or animal crackers. We love this simple snack idea from Better Homes and Gardens . All you need is a small piece of celery, an animal cracker or two, small pieces of fruit and peanut butter or cream cheese for the filling.
Wild Animal Read Aloud Books
Happy Brown House has put together a great list of books that teach not only about the wild safari animals, but also about the country and people that live nearby. Check out her website for even more great book recommendations.
Thank you for joining us this summer for our classroom transformation series. We hope we have encouraged you to try a room transformation this year.
