1Password Releases Safari Extension for iOS 15 and iPadOS 15

With the release of iOS and iPadOS 15 today, the popular password management app 1Password has released an accompanying update that brings its desktop-class extension to the iPhone and iPad .

With its Safari extension on ‌iPhone‌ and ‌iPad‌, 1Password users now have immediate access to all their passwords and 1Password entries right inside of Safari, including in-page suggestions. 1Password for Safari uses on-device machine learning to automatically fill in the login process of complicated websites and even automatically fills in two-factor authentication codes.

On iPadOS 15, 1Password's extension is even more feature-rich, featuring a complete in-Safari user interface that "turbocharges any ‌iPad‌." 1Password along with its Safari extension is introducing other app improvements and bug fixes. They just screwed thousands of users by removing the standalone feature in version 7.8 without warning. Glad I didn't hit the update button.

Version 8 is a step back

Why mess with what works... I used 1Password 7 for a long time and loved it. Version 8 was released and broke so many things, it's a case study in frustrating your users by not leaving good enough alone. Since the version 8 upgrade the Safari extension is constantly asking me to enter my password (version 7 was happy with my touch ID). I get random errors I have never seen before, like "Unable to save" when trying to save a new login, clicking the "Use suggested password" item but it is unresponsive and nothing happens... They also removed a feature I LOVED and used daily: holding alt/option while looking at an item revealed the password - gone in version 8. I wish I could go back to version 7, and I am not the type of person who wants thing to stay the same, I love changes and improvements but from where I stand, I gained nothing from version 8 but lost reliability and functionality I used to love about 1PW. I am only not looking to switch because their successful vendor lock-in. I am too deep into the 1PW ecosystem (installed everywhere) and leaving it behind would cause even more pain than this miserable downgrade they call "version 8".

Terribly unreliable on Safari

The Chrome version of 1Password works fairly well, but I have daily issues with 1Password in Safari. This usually manifests itself as a disconnection from the desktop app, where you try to fill a user/password, 1Password asks you to unlock, and then the Safari extension hangs. Sometimes it will say that it needs to reload to reconnect. At this point it does seem like it reconnects to the 1Password desktop app, but the dropdown in user/password fields won't show without restarting Safari. But there are other annoying persistent bugs as well. Any kind of form autocomplete will battle it out with 1Password. So if the extension thinks that it should try to populate an address field that wants to autocomplete your address (i.e. you start typing your address and it uses Google to try to autocomplete for you), then the 1Password drop-downs will compete for this spot. That's annoying. The most annoying one, though, is competition with Safari's built-in SMS/email OTP autocomplete or just generic email fields. I want to retain the option in Safari to generate a unique email address for a site, so I need that function enabled, but 1Password steps on the Safari drop-downs every time. 1Password team, please, fix this extension. I love 1Password. When I spun up a company, I chose 1Password for our org of 30 people. You can do better.

I like the new version

I have been using 1Password since 2014 and just upgraded from version 6, so the new version, though somewhat different, has been a much smoother experience for me. I resisted upgrading, especially after reading some of the negativity here, but I liked that I didn't have to dump my old version 6 app and data to upgrade, so I felt confident I could go back if something went wrong or I was simply unhappy with the new version. To my surprise, the migration process from 6 was easy (though I did have to download version 7 first, but still not a big deal). I realized that Dropbox was having a hard time connecting to my devices regularly, so consequently, I often was missing new passwords if they hadn't been synced. That no longer is the case since everything just syncs flawlessly! Plus, I love that y'all are taking the time to respond to all of the comments. I'm sure the complications will get worked out, but if you aren't coming from version 7 directly, 8 is a no-brainer!

How to Use Apple’s New All-In-One Password Manager

Most people don't use a  password manager or  two-factor authentication —even people who know it's a good idea—because installing and managing  yet another app just sounds exhausting. Well, if you're an Apple user, you don't need another app anymore: Your device can manage your passwords and generate two-factor authentication codes for you, and you can even sync them with a Windows computer.

Password managers are important . Why? To quickly summarize, using the same password for every website and app is an open invitation for hackers to access all of your accounts. That's because passwords regularly leak, and a leaked password on one site can give hackers access to all your other accounts if you use the same password everywhere. It's best, then, to use a totally different password on every site, but no human being can remember that many passwords.

Password managers are the best solution we have at the moment, because they can generate, and then store, secure passwords for all of your services. Most people don't use one, though, because such apps can be complicated to learn, and the best ones aren't free.

So it's great that Apple offers such functionality. But there's a downside: It's a little buried, if not outright hidden. Still, if you're a Safari user with multiple Apple devices, this feature means you can quickly generate and save secure passwords for all of your accounts. Here's how. Note that you'll need a (free) iCloud account for this service to sync passwords between devices, though if you're an Apple user you almost certainly already have one.

To get started, you may need to enable the feature, which you can find in System Settings on your device under  Passwords . Make sure  iCloud Keychain is turned on. Windows users should also install  iCloud for Windows , which can sync your passwords with Chrome or Microsoft Edge.

The simplest way to add passwords to Apple's hidden password manager is to just start using your devices and saving passwords as you go. When you sign into any online account in Safari, or in any app on your iPhone or iPad, there's generally a pop-up asking if you want to save the password in your  iCloud Keychain for AutoFill. This is the simplest way to add accounts: Just hit the  Save Password button and your username and password will be saved.

Alternatively, if you're signing up for a new account, you will generally be offered an automatically generated strong password—if not, you can tap the key icon at the top of the keyboard on mobile or in the right side of the password field on desktop. Either way you should see the Add New Password option, which can automatically create a strong password for you.

From now on, when you log in to the site, your device will offer to fill out the username and password for you. It will generally use TouchID, FaceID, or your system password to confirm you identity, after which the username and password field will be filled in. This saves you from having to remember the passwords, and even the usernames, you use to log in to websites.

You might be wondering  where , exactly, all of these passwords are saved. Let's head back to  Passwords in System Settings. Here you will find a list of all the passwords you've saved.

At the top of the list is a  Security Recommendations function, which will cross-reference your saved passwords with known lists of leaked accounts. This is a useful way to know if any of your passwords absolutely need to be changed.

Below that is a search bar, which you can use to quickly find any account. Open an account to see the username, password, and URLs associated with the account. You can also add a note to any account, if you want.

We've talked about how two-factor authentication keeps you more secure , but basically it means that a hacker who gets your password won't be able to log in unless they  also have physical access to your device. Generally two-factor authentication requires installing  yet another app, for generating codes, but Apple devices have this feature built in, and they can even fill in the field for you.

Head back to your list of passwords in the System Settings app. Open any account and you'll see a  Set Up Verification Code field.

Tap this and you can set up two-factor authentication for the application. How to do this depends on the specific service you're setting it up for, but it's generally in the settings of the specific app or website. You'll have a QR code to sign or, alternatively, a long code to copy.

After setting this up, your Apple device will automatically offer verification codes for you every time you log in to the service on any of your devices. It's really slick, and it's a lot faster than applications like Authy or Google Authenticator.

Note that if you have an existing password manager, you can import your passwords to Apple's system. Head back to  Passwords in the settings app and hit the three-dot button on the right above your list of passwords. Here you will see the option to  Import passwords .

You will need to export your passwords to a CSV file before you can use this functionality. Here are instructions for the leading password managers:

You can also  Export your Apple passwords to a CSV file from here, allowing you to import them into one of these password managers. We've outlined  the best password managers for you; my personal recommendations are  Bitwarden , which is free and open source, and  1Password , which is powerful, but not free to use.

There's not a lot of reason for the Apple faithful to do this, though. As we've outlined, Apple's password system does most of what these applications can do. The main problem is that they're hidden. 

Recently the blogger Cabel Sasser argued that  Apple Passwords needs an app , which is part of why I wrote this guide. I'm not sure if I agree with his premise—I suspect most people would simply ignore any “Passwords” app, the way they ignore most applications that come bundled with their devices. Still, it is true that all of this functionality is pretty buried. I hope this article helps you find it.

I have been waiting to publish a post with this title for a long time. With 1Password 8 for Linux and Windows out in the world – and the Mac version in beta – many folks have justifiably been asking, “but what about iOS? When do I get to see that?

The answer to that question is: today! We are lifting the Early Access curtain on our brand new iOS app – and it is gorgeous .

I’ve written a whole post about why you’ll love this update and why you should check it out, but maybe you don’t need that. Maybe all you need is the TestFlight link . If that’s the case, happy testing – and don’t forget to report those bugs !

It’s worth noting that 1Password 8 is a separate app from 1Password 7, and you’ll need to join this TestFlight crew even if you’re already a 1Password for iOS tester.

Next-gen design

When we began work on 1Password 8 for iOS, we started with a fresh canvas and then filled it with all the things that makes 1Password great, backed by over a decade of experience shipping amazing apps for iOS.

Over the last couple years we’ve been making a concerted effort to unify our design language. We built a user interface that’s cohesive across all our apps, but also makes you feel right at home on the platform where you’re using it. The updated designs result in a modern take on 1Password that is both familiar and fresh.

Not just a pretty face

If you’ve been following along with the development story of our new apps , you know that 1Password 8 for iOS is powered by our next generation 1Password Core; the full capabilities of a desktop-class 1Password app are in the palm of your hand! Written primarily with SwiftUI and Rust, a secure systems programming language famous for its performance and safety, 1Password is more stable, more performant, and more secure than ever before.

The Core also provides a very tangible benefit to everyone who uses our new 1Password apps: predictability. A Core-powered 1Password app behaves the same no matter what platform you’re using.

Everything from your search results to the password generator has been unified. Even more complicated aspects of our apps – like item recovery and our incredible new item editor – are handled by the Core. New features, like the ability to create and edit SSH keys , which recently debuted in our desktop apps, can also be found in 1Password for iOS thanks to the Core.

Many firsts

There’s a lot to discover in this new app, but let me just touch on a few of my favorites.

Number 1: A personalized Home tab. All of us have slightly different use cases for our favorite security app, and the new Home tab enables you to set it up just the way you like it. Simply scroll to the bottom of the list, tap on the 🏠 Customize Home button, and you’re off to the races.

Are you a heavy user of tags and want to see them at the top all the time? Go for it. Would you prefer to never see the archive? No problem, just turn it off. We have a lot of ideas about the type of information we can make available to you on this screen, so let us know in the forums what you’d like to see.

Number 2: 1Password for iPad.

1Password 8 on iPad is next-level. With a gorgeous layout that takes full advantage of the screen real estate, this is the iPad app I’ve always wanted us to build.

You can tailor the sidebar exactly the way you want it, just like the Home tab on iPhone. The best part is 1Password 8 for iPad scales gracefully to your device – from the expansive iPad Pro or the svelte iPad Mini – and to take advantage of iPad’s multitasking views like Split View or Slide Over.

Number 3: Watchtower. Watchtower tells you about password breaches and other security problems with the items you have saved in 1Password. Until now, only fragments of Watchtower have been available on iOS.

We’ve always wanted to deliver a complete Watchtower experience to our iOS customers and I’m happy to report that 1Password 8 does just that. Featuring a full Watchtower dashboard, it gives you an at-a-glance view of your online security health. Better yet, it allows you to dig in and fix the issues, all from the comfort of your couch, your bed, or wherever you find yourself with a few extra minutes and some security issues to resolve.

The classics

As much as we’ve changed in 1Password 8, the greatest hits are still here. You can still unlock with Touch ID or Face ID, fill your passwords into apps and websites using Password AutoFill , and use our browser extension in Safari . And of course, the industry-leading security that you’ve come to know and trust continues to underpin everything we do.

I would recommend popping over to the Settings tab and checking out all of the options available to you to set up 1Password just the way you like it.

This is 1Password 8 for iOS and Android . It’s a brand-new experience designed to bring a little order to a hyper-connected world. Where did I save my medical records? What’s my bank account number? Do I need to worry about that data breach I heard about yesterday?

And, of course, what the heck is my password?

Built for speed

When we began work on 1Password 8 for iOS and Android, we went straight to customers to find out what they were trying to accomplish in 1Password. Armed with that knowledge, we then dove into making it as fast and easy as possible to achieve those tasks. Speed is everything on mobile, and 1Password 8 delivers.

It starts with your new home screen. And I mean it when I say it’s your home screen. When you open 1Password, you can hide, unhide, or reorder what you see here. You can even pin specific fields from your items to this screen for instantaneous access.

I have my kids' Screen Time passcode pinned to my home screen so I can show it in Large Type with a tap. No two people are alike – and now, no two 1Passwords are alike.

The new design also incorporates an updated, always-available navigation bar so you can:

• Quickly access your home screen. Here you’ll find your favorites, recent items, or anything else you want fast access to.
• Access all items across all your accounts. All your vaults, all your tags. It’s all here.
• Search everything. When you tap the search button, the search field is immediately focused. Just start typing to find what you’re looking for.
• Boost your security. Get one-tap access to the all-new Watchtower experience for mobile.

Of course, 1Password is more than just an app. If we’re doing things right, it feels like an extension of iOS and Android, putting the things you’ve stored in 1Password right at your fingertips, right when you need them.

Maybe you’re autofilling the one-time code when you log into your banking app, or your payment card info on Amazon.

Everywhere you need it, the autofill experience is now faster and more precise. Payment cards, addresses, identities – autofill whatever you need, when you need it, on both iOS (with the Safari extension ) and Android.

Built for peace of mind

There’s nothing like knowing – not guessing, but knowing – that you’re protected. With the all-new Watchtower experience for mobile, that peace of mind is just a tap away.

Watchtower is your security sentinel, letting you know when you need to take action and making it easier to do so. If your credentials are involved in a data breach, you’ll see an alert in Watchtower and in the item itself. Tap it to take steps to protect yourself (like changing your password).

Those actionable alerts now extend to your security score, which gives you a bird’s-eye view of your overall security. Watchtower continually evaluates key security data points (locally, on your device) to calculate your score, and shows you where you can take action to improve your security. Your score incorporates things like weak passwords, inactive two-factor authentication, compromised passwords, and others.

You can also share your score directly from Watchtower by copying it or tweeting it. Watch out, though – this can get addictive fast. I’ve been known to spend idle minutes knocking down security issues in my own vaults to get my score just a little bit higher.

We also made security questions easier. Questions like “What’s your mother’s maiden name?” or “What was the name of your childhood pet?” are designed to enhance security, but they can also be a pain. If the question is too obscure, it’s hard to remember the answer. Too common and it’s easy to find that info if an attacker looks hard enough.

Now you can generate random answers to security questions as easily as you generate a password. Just add a security question field to any item, and let 1Password generate an answer for you. Better security, no more guesswork.

Of course, you still get all the other security-boosting features you’ve come to expect from 1Password. That includes the ability to securely share items – yep, files and documents too – with anyone, even if they don’t use 1Password.

Built for you

Nothing is as personal as these little rectangles in our pockets, so with 1Password 8 we wanted to create something that you could shape to your needs.

Enter the customizable new home screen.

You might want fast access to your favorites and pinned fields, whereas I might prefer to see a list of frequently used and recently created items. It’s your 1Password, so it’s your call.

What are pinned fields? The easiest way to make 1Password truly yours. You can pin any field in a 1Password item directly to your home screen, so you always have instant access to, say, your bank’s routing number or the one-time code for your Twitter login.

To customize your home screen, scroll to the bottom of the screen and select “Customize” then select or deselect sections to show or hide them (respectively). Drag-and-drop sections to choose the order in which they appear.

Collections have come to iOS and Android, too. Collections are an easy way to create a custom group of vaults for easier context switching. Maybe you want to create a collection of personal, work, and travel vaults, or create collections that separate shared vaults with private ones.

Again, it’s up to you. Just tap the vault icon at the top of the screen and select “Manage Collections” to set it up.

1Password also respects your device’s appearance settings, so if you dwell on the dark side all day long with Dark Mode, 1Password will embrace the darkness right along with you. 😎

Download 1Password 8 for iOS and Android

I can’t emphasize the new part of “all-new” enough. 1Password 8 is more than an upgrade: It’s a brand new experience, and you can download it now from the App Store and Google Play Store . 1Password 7 will not automatically upgrade to 1Password 8.

Once you download the app and start exploring, you’ll also find little flourishes throughout: new icons and typography, detailed item views, and new indicators next to shared items so you can see what’s shared and what’s private at a glance.

Regardless of how you set up your 1Password, you’ll be getting the most advanced version of 1Password we’ve ever built, completely recreated for a mobile-first world.

Passkeys are an easier and more secure alternative to passwords. You can use 1Password to save the passkeys you create for your accounts and sign in to websites with passkeys in your browser.

Because passkeys saved in 1Password are like any other items, you can also view, edit, move, and even share them with other people .

Save a passkey

To save a passkey, find an existing login that now supports passkeys using Watchtower or create a new account on a passkey-supported website. Depending on the website, you may need to create an account with a username and password before you can create a passkey.

Sign in to a website with a passkey

After you’ve saved your passkey for a website, 1Password can use it to sign in for you.

Sign out of the website, then follow the steps to sign back in using a passkey. When you see the list of your passkeys saved in 1Password, click Sign in beside the one you want to use.

Delete a passkey

Deleting a passkey saved in 1Password won’t remove it from your account on a website or service. Make sure to follow the appropriate steps to remove a passkey on a website when you delete it in 1Password.

To delete a passkey:

• Find the Login item for the passkey in 1Password and click or tap Edit .

If your Login item doesn’t contain a password, you can delete the item instead.

If 1Password doesn’t offer to save your passkey on a supported website, contact 1Password Support and include a link to the website where you’re trying to save a passkey.

Passkeys saved in 1Password can’t be exported at this time. If you choose to export your 1Password data , make sure to also follow the steps to create new passkeys on each website where you saved a passkey in 1Password. Then save the new passkeys in a different location, like in your browser’s built-in passkey manager.

If you don’t want to use 1Password to save or sign in with passkeys, you can turn this feature off:

Using the passwords manager on safari for ios.

If you use Safari on your iPad or iPhone, you can store website passwords and then manage them using the Passwords settings. The passwords manager on iOS is easy to use, and one of the best we've found on mobile devices.

We know that having and using a passwords manager is all but a necessity on any computer or mobile device. For one, if you're even moderately security conscious, you are probably using strong passwords . Unfortunately, typing strong passwords on a mobile device (assuming a password with upper and lower-case letter, numbers, and symbols) is kind of a pain.

You might also change things up from website to website. It goes without saying that you shouldn't use the same password twice (easier said than done), so you need to exercise your memory in order to have a unique password for every single website.

To that end, if you use an iPhone or iPad, then Safari already includes an excellent, robust passwords manager, which we'll show and explain to you today.

Access the passwords manager by first opening the "Settings" on your iOS device. Scroll to and tap open "Safari" in the left column, then tap open the "Passwords" category.

Before you can access your passwords, you will need to verify your identity using Touch ID . On older devices that don't have Touch ID, you will need to enter your passcode.

Every account on your device will be shown. Your passwords won't appear, instead you will only see the user ID associated with each account. Notice that there's an arrow on the right edge of each account row.

Tap open any account and you will now see your user name, password, and the associated website.

Tap the "Edit" button in the upper-right corner and you can edit everything or delete the account from your device.

Back on the main passwords screen, tap the "Edit" button in the upper-right corner and notice that a selection circle appears to the left of each account row.

With the edit option enabled, you can select multiple accounts at once. The advantage to this is that you can go through all of your accounts and select the ones you no longer have or want stored, then simply tap the "Delete" button in the upper-left corner.

You don't have to actually access each account to copy your user name and password to the clipboard. From the passwords screen, you can long-press and the option for both will appear on a context menu.

We'd be remiss if we didn't point out that you can tap open the "Search" field.

When you do this, the keyboard will appear and you can then tap a few characters to find the account or user name you're seeking.

Finally, we need to point out that your passwords are saved to iCloud so they're available on all your iOS devices. If you simply want to prevent Safari information from being synced to iCloud, then tap off the button next to it in the iCloud settings.

If you want to turn off iCloud Keychain syncing, then your Safari information such as bookmarks and history will still be synced but passwords will not.

The passwords manager for Safari on iOS is clearly one of the easiest to use and you can quickly transfer information from it to other browser logins.

While we can't recommend copying sensitive information like this as plain text to your device's clipboard, it can make things substantially easier. Just be advised that doing so is a security risk.

A câmera frontal segue com 12 MP.

Armazenamento e desempenho

O iPhone 16 Pro Max é equipado com o processador hexa-core A18 Pro, desenvolvido pela própria Apple. O chipset é fabricado com 3 nanômetros, o que contribui para uma maior eficiência energética e melhor dissipação de calor. Esse avanço é possível porque, com distâncias menores para os elétrons percorrerem, o processador se torna mais eficiente, reduzindo o consumo de energia e minimizando a geração de calor. Segundo a Apple, o A18 Pro é 15% mais rápido que a geração anterior.

Em termos de armazenamento, o iPhone 16 Pro Max está disponível em três opções: 256 GB, 512 GB e 1 TB. Como de costume, a Apple não divulga a quantidade de RAM em seus dispositivos, mas portais especializados em benchmark estimam que o celular tenha capacidade de 8 GB.

A Apple tradicionalmente não divulga a capacidade exata das baterias de seus iPhones, optando por informar a autonomia em horas para diferentes tipos de uso. No iPhone 16 Pro Max, a empresa promete a maior autonomia já vista em um iPhone, superando todas as gerações anteriores. De acordo com a Apple, o novo modelo oferece até quatro horas a mais de bateria em comparação ao iPhone 15 Pro Max.
