In the core series games

Generation i.

When used in a wild encounter, it will attempt to catch the wild Pokémon with a catch rate modifier of 2×. The player can only have these Poké Balls in their possession during a Safari Game .

Generation II to VII

The Safari Ball's catch rate modifier is now 1.5×.

Generation VIII

Starting in Pokémon Sword and Shield 's The Isle of Armor Expansion , the Safari Ball can now be obtained outside of a Safari Game and used in regular wild encounters. The Safari Ball cannot be used in situations in which Poké Balls cannot be used, such as in wild battles with two or more opponents currently present. If used in a Trainer battle, the opposing Trainer will bat the ball away, wasting the player's turn.

The Safari Ball's catch rate modifier is 1× in Pokémon Sword and Shield, but was changed back to 1.5× in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl .

Generation IX

The Safari Ball's catch rate modifier is once again 1×.

Description

Acquisition.

When the player participates in a Safari Game , they receive 30 Safari Balls exclusively for use within the Safari Game. They are not placed in the player's Bag , and any unused Safari Balls are returned at the end of the Safari Game.

In Pokémon Yellow only, if the player does not have the required $ 500 to enter the Safari Zone, they can instead pay all of their money and receive a number of Safari Balls proportional to the amount paid. If they have no money, they can enter for free and receive a single Safari Ball.

Pokémon X and Y

Despite being unobtainable as an item in Generation VI , a Safari Ball appears in the Poké Ball Boutique in Lumiose City .

Kiloude City 's Friend Safari building contains a Safari Ball on its sign. However, the Friend Safari does not act like a typical Safari Zone and Safari Balls are not legitimately obtainable or used in the game.

In the anime

Main series

In EP035 , Kaiser gave Ash and his friends 30 Safari Balls to be used within the Kanto Safari Zone . Ash attempted to catch various rare Pokémon with them, but he ultimately ended up using all of his Safari Balls on nothing but Tauros . The Safari Balls containing Ash's Tauros reappeared in Showdown at the Po-Ké Corral ; however, for an unexplained reason, whenever Ash has subsequently used one of his Tauros in a battle , it has been sent out from a standard Poké Ball .

A Safari Ball appeared in Which One ~ Is It? , a Japanese ending theme from Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl , also marking the debut of the Ball's in-game design in the anime.

In A Frenzied Factory Fiasco! , while Safari Balls themselves did not appear at the Poké Ball Factory , Meowth was briefly painted on with the Safari Ball's camouflage pattern, revealing that these Balls are made at the factory. This is also the first time that the games' design of Safari Balls has appeared in the anime, outside of openings and endings.

Pokémon Origins

Pokémon Adventures

Red, green & blue arc.

Safari Balls first appeared in Long Live the Nidoking! and A Hollow Victreebel , where Red received some from the robotic Safari Zone guide called Pidgebot , eventually catching a huge herd of Safari Zone Pokémon with them.

Diamond & Pearl arc

In A Skuffle with Skorupi , Diamond , Pearl , and Platinum entered the Great Marsh and received some Safari Balls to be used during the Safari Game, intending to catch a Grass-type Pokémon for Platinum to use against Crasher Wake . However, in the end, they failed to catch a single new Pokémon.

HeartGold & SoulSilver arc

In Weavile Wobbles But It Won't Fall Down , Silver received some Safari Balls while entering the Johto Safari Zone . He tried to use one on an Arbok , but Eusine stopped him, due to him having violated the Safari Zone's no-battling rule by attacking the Arbok with his Weavile .

Pokémon Zensho

In Fuchsia City , Satoshi received some Safari Balls while entering the Safari Zone.

  • The Safari Ball is the only Poké Ball type introduced in Generation I not to be present in Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! .

Poké Ball legality issues

By ashrobb March 26, 2016 in PKHeX

Recommended Posts

I've been testing the Ball check feature and I've seen a few issues related to breeding and inheritance.

1. I think bred Pokémon are not being checked. For example, a Kalos bred Totodile can literally have any PokéBall besides Cherish and still pass the legality check, when in reality is limited to the ones listed in here http://www.serebii.net/games/geniiball.shtml since Gen 2 starters can be captured on Pokémon Colosseum. However it passes the Apricorn Balls (non existant in Gen III and it can't be captured on Gen IV), the Safari Ball, etc. This also allows a Gen V or VI bred Pokémon to pass as legal when it has an Apricorn Ball, when these were exclusive to Gen IV games.(*)

2. Bred male only species: Gen VI Ball inheritance mechanics doesn't allow male Pokémon and Ditto to pass its captured PokéBall down. So Tauros, the Hitmons and Rufflet/Braviary should have this checked, as they only can be in a Poké Ball when bred. Other male species can actually bred from alternate female evolutions as Gardevoir or Nidoking (Nidoran female, Nidorina, Nidoqueen). http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/List_of_Pokémon_by_gender_ratio#Male_only

3. Same thing with Genderless Pokémon. If bred, they can only be in PokéBalls. They pass as legal in PKHeX with any ball besides Cherish (tested with KB Rotom).

4. The Master Ball. This is always checked as legal in bred Pokémon regardless of the Generation (tested with a baby Tyrunt and Chespin I just bred). This is illegal, period, since Master and Cherish balls don't pass through breeding in any condition. Master Ball is only for caught Pokémon and Cherish for events.

(*) Now, I know some of this paragraph specially may be something minor since the Ray Rizzo incident with the Dream Ball Aegislash, where the Pokémon was legal/legit because it was bred ingame, even when it came from hacked parents/the ball was edited. It was even allowed to participate in an official tournament back then, but XY were fairly new and these kind of checks may not been implemented. I dunno if this should be a warning more than an illegal flag, but it's your call. And this also can be difficult to code into the app since the check has to be individual? The others seem more feasible to check.

Thanks for the report, I'll have to think about #1 for a bit. PKHeX currently catches Kalos pkm with dream balls (sans Sylveon), and 5th/6th gen pkm with Safari Balls. For the other unimplemented exclusions, yeah, fun.

Thanks Heleen, great service!
Great service from Jayson at Safari.com
Jayson and his team have worked hard to help us put together a safari package that would hit all the points on our wish list. After weeks of work, when we came with some changes to the itinerary, he worked it in and added time in a location we hadn't considered, but we think is worth the time. They provided lot's of useful information and respond quickly to our frequent questions. Though we will not be taking our trip for a few weeks yet, we are excited and looking forward to having a once in a lifetime experience!

Bobby Witt Jr. named AL Player of the Week

Kansas City Royals' Bobby Witt Jr. celebrates in the dugout after hitting a three-run home run...

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Bobby Witt Jr. has been named the American League Player of the Week following a red-hot six-game stretch.

Witt Jr. hit 10-for-26 with two doubles, four home runs and 11 RBI over a six-game stretch from May 20-26.

The 23-year-old shortstop helped fueled a hot stretch for the Royals which included a 5-1 record over those six days of play. Witt Jr.’s first career AL Player of the Week award is the first by a Royal since first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino won the award for the week of Aug. 8-14, 2022.

The week was highlighted by a two-home run performance against the Tigers on May 21, which included a 468-foot blast into the fountains at Kauffman Stadium, the longest home run of his career.

Kansas City’s 34-21 record has the Royals in a Wild Card position as of now and 2.5 games out of first place in the AL Central.

In the six games evaluated for the award, Witt Jr. had 11 RBI, matching Cleveland’s Jose Ramirez for most in MLB and 24 total bases, which also tied New York Yankees’ outfielder Aaron Judge for most in the Majors.
