General Information
Use the Quick Reference links on the right to access general information about traveling with Royal Tours and Travel, LLC. Please be sure to check the trip descriptions as well since they may contain special arrangements that pertain to it.
Booking and Seating
Call our office or send us an email or note to sign up for the trip(s) of your choice. Signing up early allows us to decide whether there is sufficient interest to make a trip a reality. Usually a trip has to be canceled six weeks prior to departure to avoid penalties from hotels, shows, etc. Knowing your interest early helps make that decision.
You may also request a seating preference when you book the trip. Use the seating chart for the bus (shown below) to make your seating request. If you have mobility issues or food allergies, please notify us at that time.

Cancellation Policy
If you need to cancel your reservation for a motor coach trip , please call or email the office as soon as possible. If you must cancel a trip after the final payment has been made – and you have purchased travel protection insurance – it will be handled first by filing a cancellation claim under that insurance. Details concerning travel protection insurance can be found on our Travel Insurance page. If you did not purchase travel protection insurance for the trip, we will try to resell your space. If your space can be sold, you will receive a full refund of the price paid. If we cannot sell your space, we will nevertheless refund any funds we can recover by cancelling scheduled arrangements (hotels, restaurants, venues, etc.).
Cruises, Individual Group Travel, and trips involving special ticket purchases – Trips that are arranged through travel partners (cruises or Individual Group Travel, for example) are usually subject to their own cancellation policies and deadlines. They may also include travel protection insurance as part of the trip price. Those policies, deadlines and insurance policies will govern any cancellation that may occur. We can provide details about the specific provisions for each trip and will normally post them in the brochure and on the website. Trips involving theater tickets or special events and attractions may also have final payment/cancellation dates and provisions that are different from motor coach trips and are unique to each trip. Specific payment/cancellation information for these types of trips will be reflected in the write-ups on the website as well as in the brochure. Please contact us if you have questions.
Coach Information
Unless otherwise specified, all trips originate in Franklin, Virginia. Depending upon the route, certain stops can be made for additional pick-ups provided they are on the designated route.
Most of the time our motor coaches are equipped with WiFi and have tables in the back when space permits. Refrigerators or coolers are also on-board. Bottled water is provided aboard the motor coach each day. The group welcomes your goodies for snacks along the way!
Frequent stops will be made to allow people to make extended calls on their cell phones, to give people a chance to use the restroom, and to stretch their legs.
There will be no mandatory rotation of seats. If you prefer a particular seat, you may choose according to the order in which you make your deposit using the chart in the Booking section. The earlier the deposit, the better your choice of seats.
On overnight trips, no one can reserve the front seats on either side of the motor coach. The first seat on the driver side is for the Tour Director. The first seat on the door side is for those who wish to move there for short periods of time during the trip.
On one day trips you may reserve any seat on the motor coach except the one behind the driver which is for the Tour Director.
Final Payments
Final payments for overnight trips are typically due six weeks prior to departure. Final payments for cruises are typically due sixty to ninety days prior to sailing. Final payments for one-day trips are due within ten days of booking. In all cases, the dates for final payment will be listed in the brochure and on the website.
Receipts are not normally sent out for payment since bank and credit card statements reflect acknowledgement of payment.
Gratuities to our driver for one-day trips are included in the price of the trip. If you wish to give a personal tip, please feel free to do that on an individual basis. Gratuities for our driver on overnight trips are not included in the price of the tour. Such expressions of appreciation should be extended to the driver on a personal, voluntary basis. The gratuity – along with a note of thanks in an envelope – has been a tradition with Royal Tours for years and one that people seem to enjoy. We are certainly indebted to our drivers for providing us with safe travels, assisting us on and off the coach and handling all of our luggage.
In general, all passengers are insured against injury while on the motor coach. Moving about on the motor coach while it is in motion is done at your own risk.
Royal Tours & Travel, LLC. is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged articles or luggage. We will do everything within our power to make sure that your luggage is accounted for each day that it is in our care.
The cost for all trips includes breakfast and one other meal each day with the exception of the day we depart on our trip (dinner only is provided) and the day we return home (breakfast only is provided). See also What’s Included for more information about meals provided on particular trips.

Latest news.
The rambling yellow Wentworth Coolidge mansion was built by Royal Governor Benning Wentworth (1696-1770) in the mid-eighteenth century. Benning Wentworth governed New Hampshire from 1741 to 1767 – the longest serving royal governor in British America. His house, both awkward and elegant, was the political and social heart of late colonial New Hampshire.
Domestic Life Relatively little is known about Wentworth’s domestic life. Myths are numerous, facts are few. He hired farmers to cultivate the extensive land around the house, and housekeepers to care for the sprawling mansion. A French-born tavern keeper regularly rode out from Portsmouth to shave the governor and sometimes to cook in a special French kitchen that still survives in the mansion. Wentworth was an advocate of the Anglican Church in a predominantly Calvinist region. He outlived his sons, and his first wife died in 1755. The lonely governor then married Martha Hilton (c. 1737-1805) in 1760. Daughter of a genteel widow, Martha had been serving as housekeeper at the mansion.
The Coolidge Family In 1886 J.Templeman Coolidge of Boston bought the house as a summer home for his family. Coolidge was a Harvard graduate, an accomplished amateur artist, and a recreational sailor, who found the place an ideal summer home. In Boston he promoted arts education, was a trustee of the Museum of Fine Arts and the Boston Athenaeum, and served on many other art boards. He and his artist friends and associates constituted a creative summer colony here at Little Harbor.
Visitors included John Singer Sargent, Edmund Tarbell, and Isabella Stewart Gardner. Over the years Coolidge added a small guest wing at the north-east corner of the house, a low servants’ wing at the north-west corner of the house, and the shingled carriage house at the top of the sloped lawn. A former hen house was converted to a guesthouse. Later this and scattered small parcels were sold to friends and acquaintances for their summerhouses. Coolidge died in 1945, and his widow, Mary Abigail Parsons Coolidge, offered the mansion and remaining property to the State of New Hampshire. Governor Hugh Gregg and the executive council accepted the property in 1954.
In addition to its fifty-eight parks statewide, the New Hampshire Division of Parks and Recreation also maintains thirteen historic sites. They include: the Hannah Dustin Memorial in Boscawan, Endicott Rock in Laconia, Fort Constitution and Fort Stark in New Castle, White Island Lighthouse at the Isles of Shoals, the Robert Frost Farm and the Taylor Sawmill in Derry, the Pierce Homestead in Hillsborough, Tip-Top House on Mount Washington, the Daniel Webster Memorial in Franklin, the John Wingate Weeks Historic Site in Lancaster, the Governor John Wentworth site in Wolfeboro, the Wentworth Coolidge Mansion.
Hours and Contact Information The grounds are open to the public year-round from dawn to dusk. Tours of the mansion are given from mid-May to Labor Day, Wednesday to Sunday; weekends only from September to mid-October. The site may be rented for meetings, weddings and other functions. The Wentworth-Coolidge Commission, supported in part by your membership, operates this site on behalf of and in cooperation with the New Hampshire Parks Department and the Division of Historic Resources. For more information please call the office of the Wentworth-Coolidge Commission at 603-436-6607 or visit the Wentworth-Coolidge Mansion web page .

Freedom to Explore
Experience the sights, sounds and flavors of the cities where America got her start.
Walk Among Founding Fathers
Boston is one of the oldest cities in the country, and it has the historical landmarks to prove it. The Freedom Trail is a 2.5-mile walk filled with all of the rich New England history that you read about in books. You'll see the meetinghouses, churches and burial grounds that were integral parts of forming the United States.
Fenway Is the Fun Way
Bring a bag of peanuts to a baseball game at Boston's famed Fenway Park, home of the Red Sox since 1912. The Fenway Park is one of the main attractions in Boston. If you're more of an art enthusiast than a sports fan, the Museum of Fine Arts and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum are both nearby.
Satisfy the Senses
Delight your eyes and taste buds by enjoying tea and popovers at the Jordan Pond House, which overlooks the mountains of Maine and Jordan Pond itself. Portland, Maine, has a reputation among foodies — it's known for the indulgent sweets at Holy Donut, the locally made Gelato Fiasco and the delectable shellfish at The Shop. If you go to Boston, the North End is a Little Italy of pasta, pastries and cafes.
Hikes and Harbors
Experience the wilder side of New England in its less tame but still exquisite north.
All That Glitters
You can't miss taking in the sights of Acadia National Park in Maine during your vacation. Known as the Crown Jewel of the North Atlantic Coast, it's no wonder 3.3 million people visit every year. Hike to the peak of Cadillac Mountain — the first place in the U.S. to see the sunrise between October and March — then feel the rush of ocean waves down in Thunder Hole. Finish the day with a relaxing sun soak on Sand Beach.
The Maine Event
Portland, Maine, is the quintessential New England town, surrounded by miles of coastline and idyllic lighthouses. Visit the coastal shops and restaurants along Commercial and Exchange Streets. You'll find artsy spots like Asia West and Sea Bags Maine filled with keepsakes and sundries. If you have the chance, head to the picturesque Portland Head Light, a lighthouse just a 15-minute drive away in Cape Elizabeth.
Trek Further North
The north of New England, at the tail end or beginning of your adventure, you'll find Old Quebec, a 400-year-old town that oozes European romance. Take a walking tour of this UNESCO world heritage site, making sure to take in views of the Citadel, the St. Lawrence River and the Chateau Frontenac (reputed to be the most photographed hotel in the world).
Revolutionize your next adventure with a New England cruise
From stylish Quebec City to the north, to the idyllic coast of Maine and the historic streets of Boston, there's always something a new thing to do on a New England cruise.
NORTHERN HORIZONS
Some of Royal Caribbean's New England cruises go as far north as Quebec and St. John's in Canada, giving you the full experience of the Atlantic coast, including the world’s famous New York City .
ONE WEEK DOWN THE COAST
A one-week cruise through New England will allow you to visit all of the can't-miss cities along the coast, from Quebec to Bar Harbor and even down to Boston .
WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO See New England Like a Local
Autumn is one of the best times to visit New England, with comfortable temperatures, crisp air and colorful fall foliage. Most New England cruises start, stop or finish in Canada, so make sure you have both Canadian and U.S. currency on hand. Depending on the season during your New England cruise, you'll need different clothes and footwear. Make sure to pack comfortable walking shoes as many New England ports are best experienced on foot. Packing layers is a good idea when visiting the region too. In the summer months, the weather can cool down at night so it's always best to have a sweater or light jacket on hand!
8 Amazing Destinations You Can Cruise To From New York
10 Famous New England Classical Dishes You Must Try
Top 10 Epic College Spring Break Destinations
Pack comfortable walking shoes no matter which cruise you choose — New England cities are best experienced walking.
Try to wake up for sunrise when you're sailing along the coast for beautiful views of the Atlantic.
When visiting Boston, the easiest way to get around is by the subway or "the T" as the locals call it.
FRESH, FRIED AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN
Take advantage of New England's coastal locales by diving into some lobster rolls, oysters and clam chowder. Once you've had your fill of raw delicacies, indulge in the many fried options that the area has to offer, from donuts and cannolis to plentiful French fries.
Holy Cannoli
Once you've made it to Boston, you must try the delicious chocolate chip cookies at Chipyard located in Faneuil Hall. Another must-try are the cannolis at Modern Pastry in the North End, but be prepared to wait — these are not Boston's best-kept secret.
A Shucking Fun Time
Fresh fish and seafood is plentiful in Maine, especially in Portland. Head to The Shop, a raw bar and shellfish shop. The oysters are hand-picked daily — only the best for their customers!
Poutine, Please
Quebec's national dish is a must-have, especially at Frite Alors. This spot has been voted as the best restaurant for its classic poutine featuring crispy fries and semi-salted fresh cheese curds. Find out for yourself why the sauce is often described as a "blanket of love."

The Best Tours of Buckingham Palace
Getty Images
On a visit to London , some of the top attractions are linked to the royal family. But nothing is quite as iconic as a visit to the one of the three official residences of the monarchy – Buckingham Palace . While it's only open to the public on select dates, you can relish in its beauty from the regal gates, snap a selfie and catch a Changing the Guard ceremony.
How to Tour Buckingham Palace
For about 10 weeks every summer (select dates from July 11 to Sept. 29, 2024), Buckingham Palace opens its elaborate gates, welcoming visitors to explore its lavish State Rooms, grounds and Royal Collection artworks. The Royal Mews is also open to visitors from March to October, showcasing the Royal Family's real working stables and ornate, historic carriages – including the Gold State Coach used for Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Coronation in 2022.
If you aren't here at the right time, fear not; this extravagant, 18th-century royal residence is just as impressive from the outside, making it worth a visit any time of year. Check online for a current schedule of the Changing the Guard ceremony – when the red-and-black-clad Royal Guard marches toward the palace, accompanied by striking military music – and see a tradition that's been running for more than 300 years. Combine it with explorations in the surrounding area of Westminster to see London at its most quintessential.
You can explore all of this independently, of course – but if you're looking to dig a little deeper, hear about the king's coronation and uncover local secrets, consider a guided London tour . Insider experts can point out the best photo spots, take you to the must-see sights and show you the ins and outs of the area, while sharing knowledge of the country's royal history along the way.
There are tons of options out there, so where do you start? Based on local knowledge and traveler review sites, here are some of the most highly rated tours.
Changing of the Guard Walking Tour
Price: From $13 Duration: 2 to 3 hours Standout perk: Witness the pomp of the iconic Changing the Guard ceremony.
Watch the Royal Guard march toward Buckingham Palace as you witness this historic, quintessentially British spectacle on a tour of Westminster's highlights. Accompanied by a military band, you'll see the Old Guard (soldiers on duty) switch to the New Guard as they arrive at the palace from Wellington Barracks. Your guide will explain which regiment is which, before taking you on a guided walking tour past other world-famous, attractions, including Big Ben, Clarence House, the Houses of Parliament , St James's Palace and Westminster Abbey .
Recent travelers gave high ratings to the tour, saying guides were able to take them to the best photo spots for the ceremony while offering a wealth of historical and entertaining insight.
Tours leave at 10 a.m. and depart from the Victoria Palace Theatre. The outings end at Parliament Square.
Local tip: Look at the Horse Guards Clock on the Horse Guards Parade – the official entrance to Buckingham Palace and St James's Palace – to see a dark stain above the 2 (II, in Roman numerals). It marks the time King Charles I was executed outside the Palace of Whitehall in 1649, after being charged with treason.

Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle Tour
Price: From $161 Duration: 8.5 hours Standout perk: Get a rare chance to explore the State Rooms with Buckingham Palace tickets, and tick off two of the United Kingdom's grandest royal residences in one day.
This twin-castle tour offers the opportunity to enter Buckingham Palace and see its State Rooms, Royal Collection artwork and other treasures, with commentary from an audio guide. After you've toured the palace, you'll travel by coach about 25 miles west of London to Windsor Castle – the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world, and the family home of the monarchy for more than 900 years. Explore the castle's lavish State Apartments and grounds, and visit St George's Chapel – the burial place of Queen Elizabeth II alongside many other monarchs, and the spot where Prince Harry married Meghan Markle.
Recent travelers said the tour was a great opportunity to see inside both palaces. Several commented on the extensive art collection at Buckingham Palace, and many enjoyed hearing insights from the guides, although some complained about long lines.
The tour takes place from July through September on select Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and leaves from Victoria Coach Station at 7:45 a.m.
Local tip: Windsor Castle has its own Changing the Guard ceremony, as well as its own extensive art collection. The ceremony takes place at 11 a.m. on select days of the week.
Best of London Tour Including Tower of London and Changing of the Guard
Price: From $144; with optional London Eye or Harrods cream tea for an additional fee Duration: 9 hours Standout perk: You'll see many of London's key attractions in one day, and enjoy a river cruise thrown in for good measure.
If you want to combine a visit to see Buckingham Palace's Changing the Guard ceremony with stops at several other London spots, this is a great choice. The full-day trip begins at the UNESCO listed Tower of London where you'll have the chance to see the crown jewels.
From here, you'll visit Buckingham Palace to witness the famous pomp and pageantry of the ceremony and get the chance to admire the palace's impressive architecture from the outside. The day includes a tour of the elaborate St. Paul's Cathedral (not available on Sundays), before embarking on a boat tour of the Thames, passing key attractions including Tower Bridge and Shakespeare's Globe. The day also includes a photo stop at Westminster Abbey, where Prince William and Kate Middleton married in 2011, and a brief walking tour of Parliament Square. Travelers can choose to add a ride on the famous London Eye observation wheel (or opt for a quintessentially British cream tea at Harrods instead).
Recent travelers loved the tour and praised the guides as highly knowledgeable and entertaining. Many were impressed with how much they saw in a day and said it gave them a great introduction to London (although it's worth noting a few felt there was quite a bit of walking involved).
Tours leave from Victoria Coach Station at 7:45 a.m. and finish at the London Eye.
Local tip: If you fancy delving deeper into the Tower of London in your own time, book a ticket to see the Ceremony of the Keys. Dating back seven centuries, this nightly ceremony is when the castle gets locked up for the night, with a special exchange between the sentry and Yeoman Warder taking place at 9:30 p.m. between the atmospheric battlements – both eerie and magical.

London: Explore the Parks and Palaces on a Morning Bike Tour
Price: From $37 Duration: 3.5 hours Standout perk: Get active on two wheels, and combine a Buckingham Palace stop with a visit to Kensington Palace and other royal sights.
This half-day guided cycling tour is a great option to get active on your London trip. You'll start at Kensington Gardens – the home of Kensington Palace, where Princess Diana lived with the now King Charles, and Queen Victoria's birthplace. From here, pedal to the Royal Albert Hall to check out this elaborate concert hall, opened by Queen Victoria in 1871. Afterward, cycle through Hyde Park and on to Green Park to reach Buckingham Palace, where your guide will regale you with little-known stories about the palace. Continue on to Trafalgar Square, Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben as you take in some of the capital's key highlights, before returning to the Royal Parks.
Recent travelers raved about the tour and were impressed by the guides' knowledge. Many enjoyed the small group size and said the cycling was a good, leisurely pace, with plenty to see along the way, and iced tea and snacks included as a bonus.
The tour leaves from outside the main entrance at Hilton London Hyde Park. The recommended minimum age is 9 – you can pre-book junior bikes and child seats. While the bicycle and helmet for use during the tour are included, attraction entry fees are additional.
Local tip: If you've got time after the tour, it's well worth exploring Kensington Palace a bit more. Admire the elaborate, Georgian-era King's Staircase and the King's State Gallery with its fine art collection, see the Queen's State Apartments where Mary II would come to relax or welcome guests, and visit the Sunken Garden, once a favorite spot of Princess Diana's. After, enjoy afternoon tea or lunch at the Kensington Palace Pavilion amid the gardens.
The Premier Classic London: Private 4-Hour Tour in a Black Cab
Price: From $482 Duration: 4 hours Standout perk: You'll see many of London's must-see attractions, and as it's a private tour, you can tailor the trip to your liking.
If you're after a private tour, this half-day trip in a classic London black cab is just the ticket.
You can choose to align your visit to Buckingham Palace with a Changing the Guard ceremony, and you'll get expert commentary from your personal taxi driver, who's also a registered tour guide. Alongside the palace, you'll pass must-see points including the Houses of Parliament, Downing Street, St James's Palace, the Tower of London, Piccadilly Circus, Shakespeare's Globe, Borough Market and Covent Garden , with options to stop along the way.
Recent travelers loved the tour and said guides were able to tailor the trip, stopping at spots both on and off the tourist trail and offering plenty of historical insight.
Your driver-guide can pick you up and drop you off at your hotel; or a central London location.
Local tip: Make a stop at Borough Market to try some of the best food in the city, with more than 100 stalls offering everything from Persian to Italian, alongside plenty of fresh produce.
