Day 1: Snowmobile experience, Santa Claus Village, husky and reindeer farm visit and search for northern lights!

Your Rovaniemi adventure begins on Day 1 with a pickup from your meeting point and transfer to the Arctic Circle Snowmobile Park. Our guides will provide winter clothing and snowmobile training before taking off on a 1 hour long snowmobile adventure through Arctic Circle forests. After the snowmobile journey, visit the husky and reindeer farm, where you can enjoy a 500m ride on your own reindeer sledge and receive a reindeer sledge driver’s license. Next, make your way to the Alaskan Huskies and experience them in action on a 800m long sleigh ride. Listen to the local reindeer herders as they tell you more about the herding lifestyle and how it is to be a reindeer herder in the 21st century. 

After the farm visit, you will be taken to the Santa Claus Village where you will have some free time to explore at your own pace. You have the opportunity to experience the Christmas atmosphere, step across the Arctic Circle and meet Santa Claus himself! Your day will conclude as your guide drops you off back to Rovaniemi.

Later in the evening, set out on a 2-hour quest for the Northern Lights. Your guide will explore the Arctic Circle area with you, away from the city lights. At the end of the tour you will return to Rovaniemi for a well-deserved rest.

Day 2: Meet the arctic animals!

On the morning of your second day your guides will pick you up from Rovaniemi and take you on a journey to Ranua village, where you'll visit the unique Ranua Wildlife Park, the northernmost zoo in Finland. Home to over 50 arctic species, including polar bears, this wildlife park provides the perfect opportunity to get to know the local fauna of the region. • In order to drive a snowmobile, a valid driver’s license (class B) is required. A provisional license or a picture of the driving license won’t be accepted. The driving license must be recognizable in English. If you do not bring your driving license you won’t be able to drive a snowmobile and no refund can be offered.
• Children and adults without a drivers’ license can join the safari by sitting on the sledge.
• 2 adults share 1 snowmobile. If the number of people in the group is an odd number, someone in the group will have to share a snowmobile with another member of the activity. Single driving is available as supplement for adults.

• The snowmobile driver is responsible for any damages to the vehicle, with a maximum personal self-liability of 950€ per person per snowmobile in case of an accident. Arctic SnowHotel is an intriguing destination and landmark with plenty to see. Explore the snow-made hotel built unique each year, the Ice Restaurant, the Ice Bar, and the world’s reportedly only Snow Sauna.

A visiting package is an easy way to experience Arctic SnowHotel. The package includes a guided tour and round-trip transportation from Santa Claus Village or the center of Rovaniemi. Additionally, you can choose a package with meals or a snow sauna experience.

• The autumn and early winter visits are available from 1st September – 14th December .
• Winter visits are available from 15th December to 31st March .

Ice sculpting and dinner at Kota Restaurant (autumn)

This is the ultimate Lapland activity! Ice sculpting is an artform and every year, dozens of snow and ice sculptors create amazing art at the Arctic SnowHotel. This is your exclusive opportunity to try ice sculpting – as the only place in Rovaniemi!

Includes a guided tour of the ice storage facilities, where the temperature is always below 0°. In the facilities cooled by solar energy, the artists work on their sculptures, and the huge ice cubes lifted from the lake the previous winter are stored.

Try your own skills in the ice sculpting workshop led by our expert guide. The unique works sculpted by the guests will be displayed in Arctic SnowHotel for the following season !

Arctic SnowHotel & Glass Igloos allows you to enjoy snow and ice experiences starting from the Autumn opening. 

The sauna experience is a must when in Finland – imagine the fresh air, bathing in warm water! The sauna is booked in private use for you.

This visiting experience includes the season’s coolest experience ice sculpting! The experience starts with a guided tour of our ice storage facilities, where the huge ice cubes lifted from the lake the previous winter are stored. On the tour, you learn interesting facts about ice and snow sculpting as work and as a form of art.

In the workshop, everyone gets their own ice cube and learns to use ice carving tools. Those who participate in the workshop are also involved in building a new snow hotel: for the art will be displayed in Arctic SnowHotel for the following season!

After taking a 30-minute transfer, you arrive to Arctic SnowHotel. A must visit when in Lapland Finland, that offers once-in-a-lifetime experience and the opportunity to explore snow and ice structures, spectacular ice sculptures, beautiful rooms of the snow hotel and Arctic specialities, such as the snow sauna.

During your memorable visit, the guide will tell you about the construction, operation and special features of the Arctic SnowHotel. The visit includes a guided tour of snow hotel, hot berry juice and biscuits. At the end of the tour, there is a possibility to order a shot from the Ice Bar for an additional fee, served in a glass made from ice.

Rovaniemi is the capital of Finnish Lapland and the official hometown of Santa Claus. Located in the southern part of Lapland, it is easily accessible by train, bus or plane from Helsinki. Every year, millions of tourists visit Rovaniemi to enjoy its beautiful Winter landscape, experience its Christmas atmosphere and meet its most famous resident, Santa Claus!

Because Rovaniemi is a popular destination, you may need to book long in advance your accommodations and activities (especially in December).  Also, you will easily find many tour operators to organise a guided safari but we recommend to carefully select the tour operator as you may easily end up in big coaches with hundreds of tourists…

Overall, Rovaniemi is a great location to start a long trip around Lapland (this is why most of our trips depart from there). If your time is limited, this is also a good destination where you will find a lot of activity options to experience Lapland.
