Soulwax announce 2024 UK and European tour for first live shows in five years

Tickets for the 13-date tour go on sale this week

Soulwax have shared details of their first set of live shows in five years, with a 13-date tour in the UK and Europe kicking off next year.

The Belgian electro-rock duo are bringing a full band to stages at venues across France, Germany, Netherlands, Spain and Belgium, with UK shows at London’s The Roundhouse and Manchester’s New Century Hall.

Soulwax’s latest album was 2018’s ‘Essential’. The duo comprising brothers David and Stephen Dewaele also make up 2ManyDJs and Despacio, a joint project with LCD Soundsystem ‘s James Murphy.

News of Soulwax’s return to the stage comes at a milestone moment for the brothers who have just been awarded the ‘Outstanding Contribution To Music award In association With Merlin’ at this year’s AIM Awards, in recognition of their decades-spanning work and influence.

Tickets for Soulwax’s UK shows go on sale from 10am BST this Thursday (September 28) – you’ll be able to buy yours here . All other shows go on sale from 10am CET (9am BST) this Friday (September 29).

Soulwax announce first tour in five years

Brothers Stephen and David Dewaele are bringing a full band to 13 cities in the UK and Europe in early 2024

Soulwax are headed out on tour in 2024 for the first time in five years. 

Brothers Stephen and David Dewaele will lead a full band in a new live show, set to stop in 13 cities in the UK and Europe. The show will debut on 15th January at Amsterdam venue Paradiso and close at Manchester's New Century Hall on 3rd February.

In between, the Belgian brothers, AKA 2manydjs, will perform at venues like Le Transbordeur in Lyon, Huxley's in Berlin, Barcelona's Razzmatazz, AB in Brussels, The Roundhouse in London and more.

Last October, Soulwax reissued their 2003 debut 2manydjs mix ' As Heard On Radio Soulwax Pt.2 ' to mark its 20th anniversary. Revisit Ben Cardew's Solid Gold feature on the influential, culture-shifting album.

Soulwax Announce New Tour Of The UK And Europe This Coming Winter

Soulwax will return to the stage this winter for their first tour in five years.

Belgian Brothers Stephen and David Dewaele, also known for their remix project 2manydjs , will reignite Soulwax for a brand new live show equipped with a full band.

The tour will touch down in 13 cities across the UK and Europe in 2024 with t he first at Amsterdam’s Paradiso on January 15 before making stops in major cities like Lyon, Berlin, Barcelona, Brussels, and London. The 2024 Soulwax tour will come to a close at Manchester’s New Century Hall on February 3, 2024.

The Dewaele brothers’ long-running Soulwax project first landed in 1995, embodying a unique fusion of dance-pop and alternative rock that had rarely been seen before. 

After the project picked up steam, the brothers shifted their focus to 2manydjs, releasing their cult classic mix, As Heard on Radio Soulwax, Pt. 2 in 2003. It wouldn’t be long before they had amassed an extensive list of remixes for the likes of LCD Soundsystem , Justice , Gorillaz , Daft Punk , and more. 

In recent years, they have reworked tracks by Tame Impala , Peggy Gou , Chet Faker , and more. Their 2020 remix of Marie Davidson’s “ Work It ” earned them a Grammy nomination.

Now, 20 years on from As Heard On Radio Soulwax Pt. 2 , the band is back together and set to capture the attention of both ravers and rockers across the European continent. Check out the complete list of Soulwax’s 2024 tour dates below.

It’s important to point out that, just because 2manydjs and Soulwax involve the same people - specifically, David and Stephen Dewaele - and just because the pair often play shows that involve both sides of their musical careers, with both of those acts involved, that doesn’t mean that they aren’t entirely distinct entities, not least sonically. Where 2manydjs, perhaps unsurprisingly, have always been very much a dance act, Soulwax has seen the brothers explore the alternative rock scene, instead; for proof of their early credentials, consider the fact that their debut record under the moniker, 1996’s Leave the Story Untold, was produced by none other than Queens of the Stone Age collaborator Chris Goss. In the years since, they’ve gradually begun to work in more and more electronic, synthpop and dance influences into their sound, whilst keeping it entirely separate from their work as 2manydjs. Their live shows, as Soulwax, continue to incorporate a full live band, similar to, say LCD Soundsystem, with the rhythm sections key to a sound that, with its repetitive and often droney nature, is not too far removed from krautrock. The pair continue to play regular Soulwaxmas events at the end of the year across the UK to packed rooms; nothing’s been announced for this coming December yet, but certainly keep your eyes peeled.

Awesome show, in fact, so good they needed 3 drummers!

Was great to hear a mix of the latest album tracks and some of the older tho still awesome Nite Versions tracks - love those grungy, analogue Korg synth sounds.

Venue was great too - nice glass lift up to the 4th floor and a bar right next to the gig - near enough to grab a couple more beers mid-gig :-)

Epic, disappointed they didn't play any earlier material but loved the set, 3 drummers playing in sync was awesome, played all tracks from dee wee and couple of classics like Krack and NY excuse, had a great time....

Soulwax Announce 2024 UK/EU Tour After A 5 Year Hiatus

Belgian electro legends Soulwax have announced a 2024 tour of Europe and the United Kingdom. The band are bringing the tour across Europe to Germany, France, Netherlands, Spain and their native Belgium before rounding off the tour with two shows in the UK at The Roundhouse in London and New Century Hall in Manchester. Tickets can be found here .

The tour begins on January 15 th 2024 at the Paradiso in Amsterdam, Netherlands before commencing on February 3 rd at the above mentioned Manchester show.

This will be the first time Soulwax have toured in 5 years, following the release of their last album, Essential , an album that was written and recorded in just 2 weeks. It has yet to be mentioned or hinted that another album is on the way alongside the tour.

Formed in 1995, Soulwax have just been given the  ‘Outstanding Contribution To Music’ award at this year’s AIM Awards, in recognition for the influence their discography has had over their 28 year career.

Made up of Stephen Dewaele, David Dewaele, Stefaan Van Leuven, Igor Cavalera and Laima Cavalera; the Dewaele brothers also perform under the name 2manydjs outside of Soulwax and have collaborated with James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem.

Soulwax earned a lot of widespread recognition from their 1998 album Much Against Everyone’s Advice , as well as a variety of compilation mixes.

The band are famous for their radio sets, having hosted shows for Triple J in Australia as well as establishing Radio Soulwax, a website hosting 24-hour mixes from the band. They even have a radio station named ‘Soulwax FM’ on video game Grand Theft Auto V .

Tickets for Soulwax’s UK shows will go on sale from 10am this Thursday (September 28) – Those tickets can be found here . All other shows in Europe go on sale from 10am CET (9am BST) this Friday (September 29).

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.  

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
