Accessible Cruises on Princess Cruises

Princess cruises for guests with special needs.

Princess has long placed a high priority on making cruise vacations accessible for all guests, including those with special needs. The company initiated its award-winning Princess Access SM program in 1992 to raise the standards of cruise ship accessibility across the fleet, while keeping in mind the constraints and special considerations inherent to a ship at sea. Even before this time, however, Princess' well-recognized guest service extended to accessible cruising. Princess' efforts in this area have garnered them many awards and recognition.

Onboard Accessibility

The Princess fleet offers more than 350 wheelchair-accessible cabins. Each vessel features up to 31 accessible cabins, across a variety of stateroom categories. These rooms are designed for wheelchair maneuverability, with widened doorways into both the cabin and its bathroom; wheel-in showers, hand-held showerheads and bath distress alarms; as well as lowered closet railings, sinks, and handrails; and removed or revamped thresholds. Additional equipment is also available on request, such as toilet seat raisers, shower stools and bed boards.

Wheelchair users will find access-friendly design across most of the Princess fleet, making it easy to enjoy each vessel's restaurants, theaters, spas, lounges and open deck space. Elevators have generous 36- to 42-inch doorways, and wheelchair seating is available in show lounges and other public spaces.

Sight & Hearing Disabilities

Guests with sight and hearing disabilities will find vessels equipped with such helpful features as Braille elevator call buttons, audible arrival sounds and infrared listening assistance systems in the Princess theaters. ADA "all in one" kits are available upon request — featuring telephone amplifiers, visual smoke detectors, door knock sensors, text telephones (TDD) and other aids. In-cabin movies feature close captioning, and ship libraries feature a selection of books on tape.

Princess ships also welcome service animals, and have hosted a variety of such special helpers, including seeing-eye dogs, hearing-assistance dogs, and even a "helping hands" monkey.

On Shore Accessibility

On shore, Princess continues to innovate accessibility for guests. Special gangway mechanisms on most ships simplify embarkation and disembarkation for wheelchair guests in many world-wide ports. While onshore facilities and levels of access vary, Princess has made efforts to expand accessible offerings by working with local service providers. In St. Thomas, for example, Princess was instrumental in developing tours featuring the island's only accessible trolley. The line's own private beach call in the Bahamas, Princess Cays, features ramps for easier access. Guests will find guidelines in Princess' shore excursion listings to indicate the level of access for each tour.

Alaska cruisetour guests will find their vacations accessible as well. All of Princess' custom-built Alaska wilderness lodges meet ADA guidelines, with accessible rooms and public spaces. The company's exclusive Midnight Sun Express® railcars also offer access to the lower levels of the car, including dining areas and outside observation platforms.

Travelers with disabilities should check in with the onboard Tour Office to ensure all shore excursions can accommodate them. Not all port facilities are accessible for those using mobility devices. Ports may be accessed by a variety of methods including a ramped gangway, a series of steps or by tender. In some cases, you may be able to access the tender, but the shoreside facility will not be accessible. Many ports of call use a mechanism known as a "stair climber" to assist guests up and down the gangway. Guests must transfer to a Princess wheelchair, which is connected to the stair climber and operated by the ship's personnel. If you cannot transfer or your personal mobility device cannot be easily disembarked, you may be precluded from going ashore. With your safety and comfort in mind, the decision to permit or prohibit guests from going ashore will be made on each occasion by the ship's Captain, and the decision will be final. Ports that normally use tenders to access the shore are noted on the itinerary.

If you will require oxygen supplementation during your sailing, please contact our Fleet Medical Department at (661)753-2680. You will be asked to send a letter or prescription from your doctor. You will also be required to let us know the type of equipment you will be using and whether you will be bringing your own supplies or if you will be having the equipment delivered to the ship.

Guests undergoing dialysis should be aware that Princess' ships' medical facilities are similar to those of an urgent care center and do not have available specialists or specialized facilities. Should an emergency situation arise during the course of your cruise, it is recommended that you be prepared to provide a complete list of medical conditions, medications, and allergies to the medical center.

Although Princess strongly recommends against undertaking the risks involved, they will allow a guest requiring peritoneal or hemodialysis to travel on their ships at the guest's own risk . It is recommended that a guest requiring dialysis consults with his or her nephrologist prior to making travel arrangements. You should be stable on your dialysis treatments for a period of at least 12 months prior to sailing.

Before booking a cruise, the treating nephrologist should consider carefully the following:

  • There is no nephrologist available on any of the Princess cruise ships for dialysis patients.
  • Ships are not equipped with back-up battery support for dialysis related equipment.
  • A guest may be at sea for several days without any immediate hospital and/or specialist back up, and if the itinerary is not within the U.S., the availability of specialized shore side facilities can be extremely limited.

The risks to the guest who misses an appointed treatment are very serious, with little recourse available while at sea. The guest assumes these risks when a ship is prevented from entering a planned port of call for any reason.

Guests are expected to make all arrangements regarding dialysis, whether self-administered onboard or at a shore side facility. Environmental Officers can assure that dialysis waste disposal policies are followed, including providing the stateroom with a closed lid waste receptacle lined with a bio-hazardous bag for care of bags or pouches of bio-hazardous waste.

Finally, you should be aware that there are charges associated with being treated in the medical facility during the course of the cruise, and that ordinary trip travel interruption insurance does not generally cover such treatment costs if you require medical consultation or treatment. An itemized bill will be provided which can be submitted to the guest’s health insurance company after the required treatment is charged to the onboard account.

Accommodations for guests with special needs can vary by cruise line and by ship and changes can be made at any time without notice. It is important that you advise your agent at the time of booking about any disabilities or special requirements that you may have so that your needs can be assessed accordingly.

Princess Cruises Accessibility

Princess Cruises welcomes passengers with all levels of physical ability. For those with mobility issues, Princess requires you to make your needs known ahead of your cruise. You may rent a wheelchair or specialized equipment for your cruise or bring your own wheelchair or other equipment onboard. All Princess cruise ships have staterooms that accommodate passengers who use wheelchairs.

Passengers using electric mobility devices must ensure the batteries are the dry cell type and they can only be stored in your stateroom. We recommend that passengers with limited mobility be accompanied by someone who is physically able to assist with any issues onboard and onshore.

Not every port is able to accommodate passengers in wheelchairs. Please talk to one of our cruise consultants about any concerns you may have.

If you’re searching for cruises that cater to the disabled community, your quest for the perfect accessible vacation ends here. In this article I am going to explore the accessible cruising with a special focus aboard Sky Princess with Princess Cruises.

Cruising is an enchanting experience, and it’s heartwarming to witness the travel industry’s increasing efforts to make these journeys inclusive for all. With a focus on accessibility, Princess Cruises has undoubtedly earned its reputation as a frontrunner in providing disabled-friendly cruises that leave no one behind.

Whether you’re a seasoned traveler with mobility challenges or a caregiver looking for an inclusive getaway, Sky Princess Cruises offers a plethora of accessible options. From wheelchair-friendly staterooms to well-designed public spaces, the cruise line has meticulously crafted an environment that ensures comfort and convenience throughout your voyage.

For those seeking a stress-free holiday, the staff on Princess Cruises go above and beyond to provide top-notch assistance, making sure all guests can enjoy their time to the fullest. Their commitment to inclusivity extends beyond physical accessibility, as they also cater to individuals with hearing or visual impairments, ensuring a delightful experience for every passenger.

Let’s  embark on an in-depth review of life aboard Sky Princess on a 4 night Belgium & Netherlands Sampler with Princess Cruises, highlighting the accessible facilities and services they offer. I’ll also delve into the enriching shore excursions tailored for disabled travelers.

What is the Ocean Medallion Class And What Does It Do?

Sassy sitting down on a light coloured armchair in her room. She is smiling at the camera. She is wearing a red shirt and a dark grey short skirt. In one hand she is holding a glass of champagne and in the other a white plate with four chocolates on it: two are white and two are dark.

The ocean medallion is a  wearable device the size of a 10p and gives you many great perks and accessibility features throughout the Sky Princess ship.

The ocean medallion allows guests:

  • Faster boarding
  • Easy stateroom entry
  • Find your way around the ship
  • Anything you need, delivered
  • Locating friends and family on board
  • Bookmarking events

Why You Should Download the Ocean MedallionClass App

As a blind person accessing paperwork, and making sure you’ve uploaded the correct documents can always be a pain but with the ocean ready app this becomes hasslefree. Princess has ensured that accessibility and inclusion is at the forefront and the app is no exception. Here is a list of reasons why you should download the MedallionClass app:

  • While at home, upload your passport, take your security photo, fill out all cruise documents
  • Skip the lines and order snacks  and  drinks wherever you may be on board. Your Medallion device helps  staff find you so the crew can deliver drinks, snacks or other services directly to you YES, anytime, anywhere.
  • Pre-order your Medallion device and accessories to collect in port so that you can expedite your boarding process.

What is Included in Princess Plus Package?

Sassy posing on the staircase of the ship. She is wearing a light coloured dress, white sandals, and is holding her cane in the left hand. She is smiling at the camera. Behind, you can see a large area with balconies with chairs and tables, all illuminated in a purple light.

The Princess plus package is a little extra indulgence which doesn’t break the bank.

The Princess Plus package consists of:

  • A beverage Package, consisting of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks all day throughout the ship. Alcoholic drinks such as cocktails are limited to 15 per day up to the value of $15 per drink.
  • Free WiFi – don’t forget to turn your phone onto Airplane Mode as soon as. you bored the cruise ship. You don’t want any extortionate  roaming charges.
  • Crew Appreciation which saves any hassle of carrying dollar bills around, no unexpected bill at the end of your cruise.
  • Medallion shipping for international/American guests. European passengers can retrieve their ocean medallion when boarding.
  • 2 Premium Desserts a day, Grant’s favourite perk!
  • Juice Bar, freshly made healthy juices and smoothies can be ordered at the World buffet bar during breakfast and lunch.
  • 2 Fitness Classes per cruise. Exercise on holiday: no thank you.

For the entire list of packages and their benefits, click here .

The princess plus package is definitely worth it in my opinion, at £50pp per day. I may not have the 15 alcoholic drinks per day but it was great to have more than two and try lots of different and exciting flavours. If you enjoy a glass of wine at dinner or a beer or 2 by the pool, the Princess plus package is what is your consideration.

As a blind person who doesn’t really carry cash anymore, carrying American dollars that are not easily disseminated (as they are all the same length and width) made the plus package a no brainer when it came to staff gratuities.

A close-up of a white plate with a chocolate cake on it. The decoration on the plate is a dollop of cream with a green jelly on the top. You can only see Sassy's hand, which has green painted nails and is holding a fork. She is in bed and the plate of cake is on the bed sheet.

The crew on Sky Princess work exceptionally hard to make your stay as relaxed and enjoyable for you,  emphasised by Princesse’s slogan: “Come feel the love”.

Any time I passed a crew member, I was always greeted with a warm smile and a friendly interaction.

If you want that touch of luxury or celebrating with friends or family, Princess Premier package has all the benefits above with a few extra showstoppers.

  • Wi-Fi package with four devices per guest.
  • Two speciality dining meals per guest. And although I am going to go more in depth with the dining options and the accessibility, the food was absolutely phenomenal.
  • Photo Package, unlimited digital downloads and three prints for you to keep.
  • Theatre tickets and seat reservations.
  • Princess prizes, you automatically get put into a prize draw, with a fab selection.

Accessible Cruising: Can You Take a Guide Dog on a Cruise?

Sassy posing with Ida the black Labrador in front of a large bunch of yellow daffodils. She is wearing a yellow jumpsuit and is sitting down on the stone edge of the garden.

The short answer is yes. Guide Dogs, assistance dogs are medical alert dogs are welcomed by Princess cruises however I must stress that these service dogs in particular are highly trained  to help with a disability-related need. Princess cruises go out of their way to clarify that service animals are not pets, nor are they “therapy animals” or even service dogs in training.

Service animals must have proof of all current vaccinations for the cruise.

Is your responsibility as a guide dog owner to find out which vaccinations are required for each port and country.

What Documents are Required On a 4 Night Belgium & Netherlands Sampler

Sassy with a large smile, posing with a yellow cocktail in her hand. She is wearing a red top and a dark grey skirt. Behind her, there is a pool.

I had to show proof of Ida’s rabies and yearly vaccinations. Her assistance dog UK booklet and identification card, and her pet passport. If you do not have a pet passport then you will need to contact your local vet for an animal health care certificate.

Princess is very strict and if you fail to have proof of these documents and vaccinations then your guide or assistance dog won’t be allowed to disembark at any port.

Princess asks you to sign a contract relating to the behaviours expected from yourself and your assistance dog whilst aboard. They have been extremely accommodating with me sharing my concerns and are working diligently to support the future travel of disabled people and their guide/assistance dogs.

Once aboard, Ida was treated like a celebrity during our cruise! One particular crew member asked if they could say hello to her; they had been working away for over two months, had dogs at home, and dearly missed them.

It reminds you that not only do the crew want the best for you but they have long periods of time away from friends and loved ones and giving them those few minutes of doggy love to bring a smile to their face is absolutely worth it!

Accessibility of the Sky Princess Ship

Sassy wearing a pink dress with ruffled and white sandals, smiling at the camera from the balcony of her room. Behind her there is a small table and a blue chair. Across, you can see the sea and the clouds over the water.

Sky Princess offers a plethora of accessibility features around the ship for guests with disabilities. From lowered countertops, automatic doors, 28 accessible bathrooms, pool and Jacuzzi hoists, hearing loops, assisted listening devices closed captioning for movies under the stars and ASL interpreters upon request  alongside staff trained in disability awareness, I don’t doubt that princess care for accessible cruises for disabled people.

As a blind traveller, I found that the accessibility of the ship, although gigantic, was easy to navigate independently.

When booking your cruise, you can request a crew member to meet you at the dock, and guide you through the security terminal,  you can also request a  tour  of the ship which found invaluable as facilities  were pointed out and gave me a basic mind map of the ship and its decks.

Sky princess is brightly lit and has lots of contrast allowing those with low vision to be able to target signs or stations. I was excited to see that Braille was everywhere: from the lifts and staterooms to restaurants and facilities.

Even if you are not a Braille reader,  tactile signage and audio announcements are on every lift which gave me autonomy wherever I was on the ship.

A photo from the bar, with two cocktail glasses on a black table. One cocktail is in a tall glass, is orange at the top with a gradient towards yellow at the bottom and a slice of lime on top. The other glass is curved in the middle, and has an orange cocktail in it with a red cherry inside.

I have light perception so I was able to see the brightness of the lights around me, I also noticed that different sections of the ship had different flooring, from carpet to tiled, this helped when I navigated through each decks  bars restaurants or amenities.  Having Ida guide me around Sky Princess took some mental fatigue off of me, and made me extremely proud when she could find objectives such as our state room, the lifts or even the bathroom for when she needed to use the toilet.

As a guide dog user, every time I wandered the ship, Ida caught the attention of passengers and crew alike. There were even a few times where I took off her harness and let her say hello and get love and fuss, much to her delight.

One of the most common questions I was asked on Sky Princess was: where does your Guide Dog go to the toilet on a cruise ship? If you are curious to find out, then you can check out my Instagram reel here.

Due to eiders workload, and Princess cruises contract, downtime, or enrichment spaces on the ship hasn’t been uncovered. If you are interested in learning more about cruising on Sky Princess or any of the other princess cruise fleet  it would be best to contact the access team to find out if they can accommodate your requirements, and if you can use a spare crew area for enrichment.

As we docked twice on our 4 night Belgium & Netherlands Sampler cruise Ida was able to come off harness and run free.

Accessibility of the State Rooms on Princess Cruises

Sassy smiling at the camera from the middle of the bed. She is wearing a white top pajama. The bed is large and she is lying on her belly, horizontally.

Grant and I stayed in a luxurious mini-suite with balcony and full sized bath. Yes, you can have a bath on a cruise ship! Comfort and luxury: with a queen size bed, writing desk, a large lounge area with a sofa that could pull out, and sleep two more guests, with a curtain partition to divide the room from the lounge area and bedroom.

There were tons of drawers and wardrobe space, and A particular highlight of mine were the bedside lamps that also had USB ports. As a blind person I found the state room accessible and easy to navigate.

Not long after we arrived our housekeeper Richard came to introduce himself and let us know he was around for anything we needed.

Richard was super bubbly and very smiley, he showed us where the bathroom facilities for Ida were. The crew had given us a private space on our deck  containing  a mulch filled box, with poo bags and a bin to clean up after her. We thought this was a  kind attention to detail that made Ida’s toilet experience as easy as it could be.

Outside of every cabin were tactile and braille numbers allowing me to identify if I was outside of the right state room. Particularly helpful when Ida did not return to the right state room  door meaning I could independently figure out where I was in relation to my own room.

The ocean medallion played a big part in my accessibility of the ship, unlocking my  state room door gave me the hands-free practicality.

When you are a guide dog owner, or even a long white cane user who travels solo, you are constantly down one hand. So by the time you reach your door you have to thumble about with the electronic key card, and then trying to figure out which way is the *right* way to insert into your cabin/hotel door. Thankfully Sky Princess took away that stress for me. And as long as Ida wasn’t too overzealous finding the incorrect door, accessing my state room as a blind person was pretty smooth sailing!

Sassy dining on the balcony of her room. She is wearing a dress with tiny colourful flowers and red sandals. She is holding a glass of champagne in her hand. The table has a white table cloth on it. In front of Sassy there is a white plate with a selection of pastries. On the table there are also two cups and a metal cooling bucket with the bottle of champagne in it.

As a wheelchair user for eight years in my childhood I am extremely passionate about accessible state rooms aboard Sky Princess.

There are 39 fully accessible guest staterooms (with roll-in shower), 8 inside staterooms, an 23 balcony staterooms. If you want some luxury on your accessible cruise with Sky Princess there are 6 mini suites and 2 suites.

An accessible room on the ship. It is a large room, with a lot of space for moving around. There is a bed area and a seating area, with a couch, an armchair, a small table, and a desk with a white chair. Behind, there is the balcony. In front of the large bed there is a big flatscreen tv

Cruises for the disabled is something that Sky Princess seems to take pride in, the only negative is that if you want to adventure on an accessible cruise with Princess, you have to act fast, the accessible rooms sell like hotcakes and are usually booked at least two years in advance.

A large accessible bathroom on board Sky Princess, which is more like a wet room. The shower area has accessible grab bars, and a folding chair. The toilet and the sink areas have grip bars as well. The bathroom is white, with floor tiles in white and light blue.

As a disabled person I know how planning is a key part of accessible travel and we can’t always do things on a whim like our non-disabled peers but I’m really happy to see that accessible cruising is becoming popular more and more each year.

Accessibility of the Shore Excursions

Sassy wearing a yellow jumpsuit and a black necklace, posing in front of a windmill. She has her legs inside oversized clogs, one red and one yellow. Ida the black Labrador is at her side.

Our 4 night Belgium & Netherlands Sampler cruise started off in the port of Southampton, travelling north east to our first port of Rotterdam. Rotterdam is Europe’s largest port, and the sister city to Amsterdam.

We booked our first shore excursion through Sky Princess, the benefits of doing this; not least because of the accessibility Princess provided disabled travellers such as myself but they took care of everything we could have a stressfree excursion.

Embarking on an excursion with Princess you can rest assured that they keep a vigilant eye on the departure and return times of each adventure. This level of attention to detail means that the ship won’t set sail until all passengers have safely returned from their trips.

I really enjoyed our trip to clock in half tulip festival, Princess works with independent companies and individuals who know the area well. Our excursion too was run by two women and it was fascinating to learn the history of Rotterdam and their own life experiences.

The coach we went to Keukenhof Gardens was accessible, it had a lift and wheelchair space access, there was also plenty of space underneath the coach to store any Mobility aids if needed. Grant, Ida and I sat at the front which is reserved for disabled people, giving Ida that little bit extra legroom.

Visiting Keukenhof Gardens is a real beauty, being able to see and smell the thousands of tulips in bloom is very unique.

The Keukenhof Gardens were dog friendly, family friendly and accessible with lots of things to see and do, I was also happy to see that Keukenhof Gardens has accessible toilets also.

Our second port of call on accessible cruising adventure was Bruges. Bruges is the melting pot of culture, history and architecture, it was one of the first cities to have a tourism boom.

The offshore excursion was hosted by Philippe, and once more it was fascinating to learn about the history of the city. Our tour group boarded another accessible coach, we were treated to an engaging walking tour (the pavements are quite narrow and the streets are cobblestones so be aware).  Followed by a brilliant chocolate demonstration and tasting, which was also very interesting and accessible too.

Sassy wearing a yellow jumpsuit and a necklace with round black bowls, black trainers and an oversized black puffy jacket, smiling at the camera. Ida the black Labrador is sitting by her side. Behind her there is a beautiful lawn with yellow and red tulips.

We sadly run out of time to be able to visit a Bruges café and trying the famous hot chocolate however we did manage to stuff our faces with Belgium waffles, so I’ll take that one as a win!

Audio headsets were provided for our walking tour which I welcomed as Ida likes to rocket off and become the leader of the pack.

During our walking tour,  there were people with limited mobility who expressed that they found the walking tour drop off point, and the excursion itself further away, and therefore more strenuous than they  anticipated. This is something to consider if you also have limited mobility or fatigue.

If you want accessible hassle free offshore excursions, knowing that everything will be taken care of, including situations that may be out of your control for example , getting stuck in traffic, Princess cruises has you accounted four, and the only thing you need to worry about is having a great time.

Tender Ports

If there is no availability for the ship to dock  or weather conditions have made it difficult for the ship to get into port, sometimes your cruise ship will be anchored off shore and passengers will be ferried by small boats called tenders.

This can make transfers for disabled people extremely difficult, and sometimes even impossible.

Princess’ cruises policies say that crew can only assist if the person is 50 lbs / 23KG. This is why it’s imperative to do your research ahead of time as to which princess cruise vacation you are planning to take, and enquire into if the ports have tenders.

Accessible Facilities on Board Sky Princess

Sassy inside the Jacuzzi, holding a glass with a red cocktail in it, smiling at the camera. She is wearing a red bathing suit with white flowers.

Things to do on Sky Princess. Every day I have a new itinerary access via app, use  JAWS screen reader technology at the Internet café, or have the daily bulletin given to you in your preferred format (mine is via email).  From galleries to live entertainment, dance classes or daily quizzes you feel like there isn’t enough time to do all.

Basketball courts to running tracks and minigolf, two fully equipped gym where all guests can get their blood pumping with a range of different activities. Disabled passengers can access deck 18 via a regular guest lift, then once at Deck 18 Sky Princess has an outside chair lift that can take guests from deck 18 to deck 19 (sports court and jogging track).

There are also accessible lifts to outside swimming pools and hot tubs.

Swimming pool lift machines can be used to transfer guests in and out.

Prior to your cruise, reach out to the Access Office at [email protected], and they’ll arrange an equipment test to ensure everything is set up for your comfort. Once onboard, you’ll be shown how to operate the pool lift.

You must be accompanied by a family member or traveling companion who can assist you with the lift, as crew are not allowed to operate it for you.

The best part is, all Princess Cruises ships have pool lifts available, and they can handle up to 130kg / 286 lbs.

A show on the ship. There are two men wearing purple and pink suits dancing on the stage. The images projected behind them suggest a space themed show.

As a blind traveller I had  plenty of fun roaming Sky Princess and keeping myself entertained by various activities including: shopping, indulging in a spa day which also consisted of a trip to the sanctuary (adults only) for afternoon tea and hot tub time. Thankfully the ocean medallion and app helped guide my way, or tell me what was on the menu, whether that was for food, drink or which spa treatments to indulge in.

The crew were kind, patient and fun to be around, whether they were explaining the design and shades of clothing, guiding me around the ship or giving audio description when I was partaking in a Disney themed quiz; everyone tried their best to be as accessible as they could.

With visual entertainment such as in room films, nights at the theatre or watching a movie on the stars, having audio description what have made my experience feel even more inclusive. Having light perception I did get overly excited every time I could see the bright lights of the theatre flashing my way but it’s not quite the same as having audio description in your ear so you can follow along with the seas like everybody else.

I met lots  of wonderful people during my time aboard Sky Princess, many of whom were also disabled. It was great to learn that Sky Princess was accessible to them and accommodated any requirements or requests.

Dining on board Sky Princess

A close-up of a tostada with grilled vegetables such as cherry tomatoes, asparagus, aubergine, sage, with white cheese on the side and a yellow sauce drizzled on top.

You will never go hungry on Sky Princess, and if you’re anything like my husband Grant: eating your way around the ship will become a new sport! Unless you’re really in to fitness as well, be prepared put on a few extra pounds by the time we return home! Princess has been voted the best pizza at sea and received many awards for their dining, and after indulging in many different meals, sweet treats and savoury sensations – Grant and I can thoroughly attest to such remarks.

Wheelchair accessible tables are available in all restaurants, and upon request, Braille menus will be provided. Additionally, all dining areas have conveniently located accessible bathrooms too.

Every restaurant and dining area has braille on the wall outside, and although I was happy to see the inclusivity, I found that the crew were exceptionally vigilant, and would ask if you needed any assistance almost before you even got to the wall to check.

A close-up of a white plate with a rack of lamb on it. The lamb is cooked pink and has a crust on it. Alongside there is a medley of steamed vegetables such as green beans, carrots and yellow peppers.

As a blind passenger, I utilise the service of the crew; their kindness and attention to detail to have an inclusive dining experience.

If I were eating at a restaurant or even the buffet, a crew member would guide me to my table and ask what I would like to drink, and either read me the menu of the day or in the case of the buffet, sighted guide me to and from my table. I had a luxury dining experience as the table was presented beautifully, chairs were pulled out for you, napkins placed on your lap and we were served food from one side and plates retrieved from the other. Crew would also announce themselves and tell me that they were placing my food in front of me.

It’s a little touches like this that creates an accessible experience for blind people.

Two rectangular white platters with a selection of sushi on them. The further one on the table has avocado and tuna rolls with an orange mayo on top. The one closest to the front of the photo has two tuna nigiri with red salmon, two with white fish, and two with fried fish with white sesame seeds on top.

The quality and presentation of every dish is a masterpiece. It doesn’t matter whether you are dining in the main restaurants, the food bars or even speciality dining, you’ll be transported to a new country with every cuisine.

Just in case you are salivating at the thought of the food aboard Sky Princess, I’ve decided to share the main meals below in case you want any inspiration for your future disabled cruises adventure.

  • Vol-Au-vent
  • Rack of Lamb
  • Fettuccine Alfredo
  • Princess Love boat Dream
  • Blueberry Cobbler

Speciality dining

Sabatini’s  – $35pp.

  • Arancini Al Tartufo
  • Lobster Tortelloni
  • Porcini Mushroom Risotto
  • Lasagna Bolognese AL Forno
  • Grilled Sirloin

Crown Grill – $39pp

  • Rib eye
  • Sides: Loaded Baked Idaho Potato, Garlic and Herb French Fries, Red Skin Mashed Potatoes, Creamed Spinach
  • Hawaiian Black Salt, Smoked Applewood salt, Himalayan Mountain Pink Salt (oh yeah dipping create new and intense flavours).

Each course was also paired with the perfect accompaniment of wine, sound was passionate, engaging and extremely knowledgeable about them.

A close-up of a round cake, yellow on top, decorated with a piece of strawberry, a dollop of white cream and a little biscuit. The white plate is decorated with a thick brown caramel sauce and crushed biscuits.

I honestly don’t think I can do the food justice with my explanations but: creamy, rich smoky and sweet explosions throughout my tastebuds and sense of smell enveloped me with every new dish.

Princess Cruises ship cabin and suite guide: Everything you want to know

Gene Sloan

Is a balcony cabin a must for you when you cruise? Princess Cruises could be your line.

The California-based brand was a pioneer in adding a large number of balcony cabins to ships, and even its oldest vessels are loaded with balcony cabins — something that can't be said for many of its rivals.

On the flip side, Princess offers relatively few suites on its ships compared to some of the big-ship lines with which it most directly competes, including Celebrity Cruises , Norwegian Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean. Just 46 of the 1,830 rooms on the line's recently unveiled Discovery Princess are suites, for instance. Believe it or not, that's an improvement from earlier vessels in the same series, some of which have as few as 36 suites.

Princess also isn't known for enormous and amenity-filled suites.

What this means is there aren't a lot of ways to live large on a Princess ship or pack a lot of people into a single accommodation. Until the debut of Sky Princess in 2019, the line didn't have a single cabin that could accommodate more than four people.

That said, on Princess ships, you can often create larger living spaces by booking two connecting cabins.

A Princess Cruises cabin primer

As is typical for many cruise ships, Princess vessels offer cabins in four broad categories: Windowless "inside" cabins, ocean-view cabins, balcony cabins and suites.

As noted above, a significant portion of cabins on all Princess ships are balcony cabins — the category of cabin that everyone wants these days. About 80% of the 1,834 cabins on Princess's six-month-old Enchanted Princess are balcony cabins or suites with balconies, for instance. Compare that to the 72% of cabins on Royal Caribbean's four-year-old Symphony of the Seas that are balcony cabins or suites with balconies.

princess cruises handicapped rooms

Notably, every single cabin facing the sea on three of the newest Princess ships — Royal Princess, Regal Princess and Majestic Princess — has a balcony. These three vessels are completely devoid of ocean-view cabins (cabins facing the sea that only have a window). That's relatively unusual in the world of big mass-market ships — the niche of cruising in which Princess plays. It's more common with luxury cruise vessels.

Related: The ultimate guide to Princess Cruises ships

At the same time, as noted above, Princess vessels have fewer suites than you'll find on the ships operated by such big-ship brands as Royal Caribbean and Celebrity.

Here's a breakdown of the broad cabin categories on Royal Princess, which is typical of the line's newer ships (it's the prototype vessel for the line's new, six-ship Royal Class series):

Inside cabins: 342 (19%) Ocean-view cabins: 0 (0%) Balcony cabins (including mini-suites): 1,402 (79%) Suites: 36 (2%)

On older Princess ships (and, in general, all older cruise ships), there are fewer balcony cabins. However, the ratio of balcony cabins to non-balcony cabins is much higher on older Princess ships than it is on older vessels at many other big-ship lines. An impressive 72% of the 1,000 cabins on Princess's 2003-built Coral Princess, for instance, are balcony cabins.

On Coral Princess, inside cabins and ocean-view cabins only make up 26% of all rooms. A breakdown of the cabin categories on that ship:

Inside cabins: 108 (11%) Ocean-view cabins: 157 (16%) Balcony cabins (including mini-suites): 719 (72%) Suites: 16 (2%)

The takeaway here is that you'll have an easier time locking down a balcony cabin on a Princess ship — even an older Princess ship — than you will when booking many of the ships operated by competing big-ship lines.

Just note that you'll want to book early if you're aiming for a suite on a Princess ship since there are so few of them. Note, also, that suites tend to sell out early on cruise ships in general. An old saying in the cruise industry is that "ships sell from the top and the bottom." That is, the first cabins on any vessel to sell out are the most expensive cabins, which are the suites, and then the least expensive cabins, which typically are the inside cabins. The mid-priced "middle" cabins sell last.

Design-wise, Princess's cabins and suites are fairly basic and comfortable, if not super stylish.

When it comes to rooms, Princess is sort of the Marriott of the big-ship cruise world. Its rooms are comfortable and functional, but a bit bland. Avant-garde style is not a Princess thing.

Inside cabins on Princess Cruises ships

These are the cabins you stay in when you're on a tight budget. On any Princess ship, they are almost always the least-expensive option when you're booking a cabin. You often can save considerable money by booking an inside cabin versus an ocean-view or higher-level cabin.

What you'll give up, of course, is that ocean view. Your room will have four walls and no windows offering a glimpse of the outside world.

princess cruises handicapped rooms

You'll also be in a relatively small room. The typical inside cabin on the new Discovery Princess measures 166 square feet, with some as big as 175 square feet. By comparison, the typical balcony cabin on Discovery Princess measures 181 square feet, not including a 41-square-foot balcony (for a total of 222 square feet).

Still, the inside cabins on Princess ships are bigger than the inside cabins on ships operated by some of the line's main competitors.

Related: The 5 best destinations you can visit on a Princess ship

Inside cabins on Royal Caribbean's Symphony of the Seas, for instance, measure just 149 square feet — quite a bit less than the inside cabins on Discovery Princess.

princess cruises handicapped rooms

Note that older Princess ships sometimes have smaller inside cabins than newer Princess ships. On the line's 2003-built Coral Princess, inside cabins measure just 156 to 166 square feet. On the line's 1998-built Grand Princess, most inside cabins are 160 square feet (some wheelchair-accessible inside cabins on Grand Princess measure 182 square feet).

Many inside cabins on Princess ships have pull-down bunks that will allow for up to four people to stay in the rooms.

Ocean-view cabins on Princess Cruises ships

With an ocean-view cabin, you get a window looking out to the sea, but not an attached balcony where you can sit outside and enjoy the fresh air.

As noted above, three of Princess's newest vessels — Royal Princess, Regal Princess and Majestic Princess — don't have a single ocean-view cabin. Every outward-facing cabin has a balcony. However, you'll find ocean-view cabins on the line's older vessels and also on the line's three newest ships, Discovery Princess, Enchanted Princess and Sky Princess.

In general, ocean-view cabins on the Princess ships that have them are a tad bigger than the inside cabins found on the same vessels. On the line's Emerald Princess, for instance, the typical ocean-view cabin measures 178 square feet. The typical inside cabin on Emerald Princess measures 163 square feet.

princess cruises handicapped rooms

On many Princess ships that have ocean-view cabins, the rooms are mostly found just above the promenade deck, where the lifeboats hang, and have obstructed views. You'll also sometimes find a few ocean-view cabins at the back of Princess vessels, facing the wake.

Related: The 3 classes of Princess ships, explained

On the line's two Coral Class ships — Coral Princess and Island Princess — there are a few "premium" ocean-view cabins that measure a more spacious 212 square feet. If you're the kind of traveler who needs a lot of space, these rooms can be a good choice.

princess cruises handicapped rooms

There also are a handful of "premium" ocean-view cabins on the new Discovery Princess, Enchanted Princess and Sky Princess that measure 172 square feet and have unusual slanting windows.

Balcony cabins on Princess Cruises ships

Balcony cabins are what everyone wants these days, and Princess is delivering with huge numbers of balcony cabins on all its newest ships. On the line's new Royal Class series of ships, which began debuting in 2013, nearly 80% of rooms are balcony cabins.

On these newer vessels — Royal Princess, Regal Princess, Majestic Princess, Sky Princess, Enchanted Princess and Discovery Princess — the typical balcony cabin has an interior space of 181 square feet plus a balcony that measures 41 square feet (for a total of 222 square feet). However, there also are bigger "premium deluxe balcony" cabins that can measure as much as 233 square feet on the inside (not including the balcony). Some of these have larger-than-normal balconies that can stretch the total square footage to 312 square feet.

princess cruises handicapped rooms

In addition, the Royal Class vessels have even larger balcony cabins that Princess calls mini-suites. Including their balcony space, these cabins measure anywhere from 299 to 329 square feet. While these mini-suite cabins have the word "suite" in their name, we are including them in the balcony cabin category as they generally resemble very large balcony cabins vs. true suites.

Related: Everything to know about the Princess Captain's Club loyalty program

The typical Princess balcony cabin has twin beds that can be converted into a queen bed, a built-in desk with a chair and a built-in miniature refrigerator. In addition to beds, a desk and a miniature fridge, premium balcony cabins have a seating area with a sofa bed that can be used for a third passenger in the room. Some also have a pull-down bunk that can accommodate a fourth person.

Suites on Princess Cruises ships

As mentioned above, Princess ships generally have fewer suites than the ships operated by some of its biggest competitors. The line also isn't known for particularly giant suites.

Princess's three newest ships — Discovery Princess, Enchanted Princess and Sky Princess — have the line's first truly large standalone suites, dubbed Sky Suites. There are two of them on each of the vessels, and they measure a generous 1,792 square feet (though more than half of that space is taken up by a huge wraparound balcony). With two bedrooms plus a living room with a pullout sofa, the Sky Suites are the first Princess accommodations designed for up to five people.

Still, even the Sky Suites on Discovery Princess, Enchanted Princess and Sky Princess aren't the sort of truly epic suites with huge interior living spaces that you'll find on the latest ships from such competitors as Celebrity and Royal Caribbean. The latest Celebrity vessels, for instance, offer so-called Iconic Suites that have twice as much interior space as the Sky Suites.

princess cruises handicapped rooms

If you're the kind of cruiser who is only happy in a cabin of truly giant proportions (and are willing to pay up for it), Princess probably isn't your line.

Still, you'll find at least a few suites of a decent size on every Princess ship. The line's seven Grand Class vessels each offer two "family suites" at their fronts that can be created by connecting a mini-suite with an adjacent inside cabin to create a six- to eight-person complex.

Each of the line's Royal Class ships (the line's six newest ships) has at least 36 suites.

Bottom line

Princess offers a relatively wide range of cabins on its ships, including lots of the sort of cabins that everyone wants — balcony cabins. If you're a fan of balcony cabins, you'll find plenty of options on Princess ships, including standard size balcony cabins and bigger "premium" balcony cabins. You'll also find a lot of larger "mini-suite" balcony cabins on Princess ships. However, you won't find a lot of truly large suites with multiple rooms.

The booking agent I am using gives me a choice if I want to book a handicapped room. I know I can get bumped at anytime, but would it be smart to book one of these rooms just incase I don't get bumped? I heard they are a lot bigger etc. Can anyone privide me with some insight? Thanks!!

You will likely get some very heated answers to your question. Accessible cabins are always in short supply. Booking one without having need for it will make it show up as unavailable, regardless of what your agent has told you. Yes, they are large and very nice, but that does not justify denying that cabin to someone who needs it. Just say no, and hopefully the good karma you earn will be repaid in some other fashion.

1,000+ Club

Your travel agent is wrong. If you book the cabin, IT WILL be unavailable for those who need it. There are only a few of these, keep them for those who need it. If there are not any cabins for those who need the accessible cabin, they can not cruise. You may be preventing someone from taking a vacation the week they want to.

250+ Club

Here comes a semi-heated reply...................

Don't do it, please! All sounds good but VERY few lines actually require proof of need, so if you take it, someone like my wife in a wheelchair can EASILY be aced out of a cruise. Those who do require proof will take most anything and it is sadly funny to read what some people have gotten their doctors to sign just to get them into a larger room for no $$.

You would be amazed at how many people book them because they are oversized to accomdate wheelchairs and a little more space for people who fall. Very few have any regard to the part of society that can only be comfortable in these rooms due to the space.

We book over a year in advance on most cruises just to get one of the accessible rooms.

We have enough problems now.....please don't add to them for anyone.

Alright! Enough said. Thanks everyone, I would never book the room!!! (no need for more heated replies)

DesrtDrmr

Thanks, Danimal...................hope you get a great upgrade from whichever able bodied person cabin you book!!!! :)

Umbarger

Thank you for posting your thread and asking people's opinion. Also, thank you for taking the high road. :D

I must admit I am appalled at your booking agent asking a able bodied person if they wanted a handicapped room!!!!!!!!! Gosh, I used to blame the AB passenger requesting the handicapped cabin. Now, I have heard of numerous times it being the booking agent offering it to clients.

Please tell your booking agent how wrong he or she is for doing this or just direct her to this thread. She is ruining cruising for handicapped people. Shame on your booking agent.

Again, Thank you Danimal.

"Live from...."

I always wondered why handicapped cabins were larger than other cabins in the same category. I understand why the extra space is necessary, just not why they're classified the same. Why don't the cruiselines to classify them as higher category cabins because of the extra space and charge more accordingly? In other words, why should someone be able to get a large handicapped accessible cabin and pay the same as someone in a cabin half the size?

50+ Club

sweetiepie9339

They don't classify them as a higher cabin- at a higher price- because it would be unfair to make someone who is handicap pay MORE just because most of the rooms can't accomidate them. If they don't book up- and a able bodied person wants one- then they could make them pay more... put it really would be unfair to charge the handicap person more for a room that is the same category (ie has a balcony or a window or not just like yours..) just because they need the room to have a few modifications. I bet- although I don't know- that the handicap rooms are already limited to a higher category as it is... ie I have heard alot more about handicap minisuites than insides?

What a wonderful and another unique way to discriminate against the handicapped!!

Would love to know about handicapped minisuites. The following addresses the Princess Line only. I don't know about the others. The highest handicapped cabin category on any Princess ship we've sailed on is a BA Balcony. It is the only balcony category that has H/C cabins, so we do pay more already than those that can book a balcony guarantee. There are also inside and oceanview H/C cabins. The extra space in a H/C cabin is for wheelchairs and scooters to turn around, and get from piece of furniture to piece of furniture. Some folks are not able to get out of their chairs at all, and have to have room to get the chair from the bathroom to the bed to the desk, etc. That's why they cannot make do with a non H/C cabin. Also, the H/C cabin does not have a step up into the bathroom, has a higher toilet, many grab bars and has a roll in shower for folks to take their wheelchairs into the shower, else they cannot bathe.

I'm surprised, too, that a reputable travel agent would suggest a H/C cabin for able bodied travelers, and commend all those people that dont need them, for passing them up.

bjboothman

What a crappy move on the part of the booking agent. I'm a little surprised the cruiselines don't require the passengers to demonstrate need for additional space, but then I can see a whole 'nother can of worms being opened - as to who has the greater need. But for an agent to offer a special cabin to those with no need is really low-class.

I bet- although I don't know- that the handicap rooms are already limited to a higher category as it is... ie I have heard alot more about handicap minisuites than insides?

There are wheelchair-accessible inside cabins, my travel agent offered me one yesterday. Don't worry, I turned it down! It was a category I, which is one of the higher-category inside cabins, on the Dawn. It's about 70 square feet larger than a regular category I cabin, and it was offered at the same price as other category I cabins. We'll see if they keep offering the same price after the Supreme Court decision in the NCL case (expected anytime between now and June).

While it's nice that you "understand" the need for extra space, you certainly don't "get it" as far as HC rooms.

Charge a person who is handicapped MORE money b/c he/she is in a wheelchair and needs a certain amount of space to turn?

Oh come on!

My husband needs to be able to use the bathroom ... just like AB folks.

He needs to get his power chair into the bathroom [meaning wider doorway, no threshold], close to the toliet/shower/sink. Then he needs to have room to maneuver the chair -- and to turn and exit the bathroom.

Just a common, ordinary need -- but for a person who has an HC, it can be a HUGE obstacle.

When we booked a verandah room on HAL, we got an HC room ... paid what everyone else paid [or somewhat]. We did not have an "upgraded" cabin; we had a verandah cabin with a little more space.

Unfortunately it often takes having someone in your family, or someone close to you, or your own self, to experience life with an HC to make you realize how foolish some in the AB world are.

Kaye from Chicagoland

Kaye from Chicagoland

What is the Supreme Court decision regarding NCL about? (haven't heard about it - DUH?!?!)

Also, my parents were in a BC category handicapped room (outside balcony) on the Golden in Jan. - Way bigger than our BC category - it was nice for them since my mother does require a wheelchair.

  • 1 month later...

finucane

Touchy subject for me............ I see this stuff going on everyday! I am getting to the point where I believe the entire travel industry really doesn't want to cater to the disabled, they discourage it!

My wife is confined to a W/C, meaning (for the AB illiterate) she can't stand or walk and people who have disabilities in there families know the extreme (at times) needs of these people who by the way have a God given right to experience a good quality life also.

I think the only way an AB person would understand or maybe care is to spend just one day in a chair.......

I wish I had the name and numbers of those agents that are doing this but I am sure the list would be eternal. It just shows how greedy people and business are for the almighty dollar.

I truly thank those who resist the temptation to abuse this practice. We just booked a RC cruise in January 2006 and got the last outer accessible room on the ship. The RC agent was honest with me and let me know that a large number of the accessible rooms where blocked by travel agents......... Figure that!!!

Princess themselves firmly told me that if a wheelchair passenger needs a wheelchair accesible cabin and its currently assigned to a non disabled passenger then they will move the non disabled one out

I know i have been refused a wheelchair cabin despite it still being available on one sector of my b2b yet it was allocated by the guarantee computer on the 1st section

I would not dream of denying a wheelchair passenger a disabled cabin but i will sure be miffed if i have to change cabins 4 times and find that particular cabin I have been refused is allocated at the last minute to some very fit young person

On our first Princess cruise on the Sun Princess, we booked an inside guarantee. Princess assigned us to an inside handicapped cabin. Apparently it was not needed and/or the only type of cabin remaining. We had not choice in the matter. Although the cabin was larger, the handicapped bathroom was not to our liking. We would probably not book such a cabin even if we had the choice.

Thats interesting ......whats different about the bathroom that you did not like ?

Mind you right now I would settle for almost any cabin that meant i dont have to move 3 times on my B2b

TA refuses to answer E Mails although I know they have opened them

Princess say TA has not contacted them and unless the TA contacts Princess theres nothing they can do to sort out the mess

Just what does one do when TAs dont do their job

I am cruising the inside passage on the Diamond with my mom who needs a chair to walk farther than a few feet. Do you know if the ports in alaska are w/c friendly?:)

inaspin what people say and what actually happens are two different things. I have 2 daughters with Spina Bifida, neither can walk both are in manual wheelchairs. When I cruise I have to book 2 handicap cabins because they won't let them share a cabin and I'm not sure I would want them to anyway. My father went with me and my girls to the Carribean in February this year. He had an inside cabin with my youngest daughter and I had a balcony with the oldest one. When I talked him into paying for an upgrade to get the cabin next to us 4 months before the cruise Princess said the cabin was already booked by someone disabled. Guess what it was a couple in their 20's neither one handicapped on their first princess cruise.

FYI, they lie!

We booked 2 rooms on the Grand Princess, both for totally W/C bound. Our room was available but they told us there where no other accessible rooms avaliable....... The other couple didn't cruise because they couldn't get a room.

The same thing happened to us as many on this post. We had our room and the room right next door (the one we wanted for our friends) was the same accessible room we had with a couple of AB individuals in there late 20's or early 30's, they partied day and night.... The ship was not at capacity!

I don't know what the answer is to stop the problem...

Finucane   I am cruising the inside passage on the Diamond with my mom who needs a chair to walk farther than a few feet. Do you know if the ports in alaska are w/c friendly?:)

Yes they are..........

Thats interesting ......whats different about the bathroom that you did not like ?   Mind you right now I would settle for almost any cabin that meant i don't have to move 3 times on my B2b   TA refuses to answer E Mails although I know they have opened them   Princess say TA has not contacted them and unless the TA contacts Princess theres nothing they can do to sort out the mess   Just what does one do when TAs dont do their job

Fire them! There's plenty of good ones out there who do a good job and don't hold accessible rooms for there AB clients to make a sale on a promise of a larger room for the same rate.......

I will never use these TAs again but that does not stop the mess they have created for my 4 B2Bs which start Tuesday

I will have to change cabins 3 times ......after 3 nights , 3 nights ,7 nights

I shall be living out of a suitcase

and the rules on this board means i cant even warn others about the way this "biggie" online TA behaves

Caribbean Princess Itineraries

Caribbean princess review, review of caribbean princess.

The 2004-built Caribbean Princess cruise ship is the 6th Grand-class Princess Cruises liner, with sisterships Crown , Diamond , Golden (Pacific Adventure) , Grand , Emerald , Ruby , Star (Pacific Encounter) and Sapphire .

The vessel (IMO number 9215490) is currently Bermuda- flagged (MMSI 310423000) and registered in Hamilton .

History - construction and ownership

Princess Cruises is a USA-based passenger shipping company headquartered in Beverly Hills CA. A former subsidiary of P&O Princess Cruises (1977-founded), in 2003, the company merged with Carnival Corporation - the world's largest cruise shipowner. Among Princess Cruise Lines Ltd's assets is the Caribbean private island resort Princess Cays (on Bahamas Eleuthera Island's southern end), located approx 80 km (50 mi) from Nassau .

Caribbean Princess cruise ship

The 2600-passenger ship Caribbean Princess underwent a major drydock refit in early 2009 when were added facilities available on the younger fleet mates Crown, Emerald and Ruby. Now passengers spend hours sitting in the cosy, patio-style seating places, sipping coffee, reading, playing board games and watching occasional performers, ranging from a Cirque-type cube-spinner to a BMX biker. The new Piazza-Vines Wine Bar is the place to try over thirty wines by the glass while snacking on artisan cheeses, sushi and tapas. Of the changes, the most remarkable and appreciated, is the transformation of the former atrium into a new 3-deck-high, street-cafe-style Piazza - home to the International Cafe (a combination bakery, deli and coffee shop), Vines Wine & Seafood Bar, the Internet Cafe & Library, and an amusement zone.

Decks and Cabins

Most Caribbean Princess staterooms (1569 total, in 34 grades) are 170-ft2 balcony cabins (675). Almost 80% of the outside accommodations have private step-out balconies. Wheelchair-accessible cabins are 25. The largest accommodations are the Grand Suites (615 ft2 / 57 m2 with terrace sized 115 ft2 / 11 m2).

The boat has 18 decks , of which 15 are passenger-accessible and 9 with cabins.

Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks

Caribbean Princess features three dining rooms, all with twinkling lights on their ceilings and tasteful, Caribbean-themed menu. The Palm is for fixed-seating dining, while Island and Coral are for passengers who have chosen "Anytime Dining". Reservations are available but are not required. Coral also welcomes guests for waiter-service breakfast and lunch. Rotating menu options include soups, appetizers, mains and desserts. There are also signature pasta and choices like Caesar salad and salmon. The healthy Lotus Spa selections are low in sodium and fat. Cafe Caribe and Horizon Court look identical and are open all day long. The Horizon section serves as a lido buffet restaurant and features breakfast buffets. Lunch choices may include unusual dishes like peanut butter sandwiches and fried bananas.

Follows the complete list of Caribbean Princess restaurants and food bars.

  • Island Restaurant (ship's aft Dining Room; dinner only - offers “Anytime Dining” between 5:30 p.m. -10 p.m.)
  • Crown Grill (160-seat steakhouse/seafood restaurant, reservations recommended; on select days serves British Pub Lunch, complimentary)

  • Slice (formerly Pizzeria, with west and East Coast offerings, classic Neapolitan-style pizza)
  • Coffee & Cones (formerly Scoops, offers free ice cream cones, treats of gourmet ice cream sandwiches, specialty coffee)

In April 2024 Princess Cruises announced that starting September 14th (2024) fleetwide would be introduced 3 distinct main dining/dinner table service options – Traditional, Reservable, and Walk-in Anytime. By the new program (introduced with Sun Princess) on each ship are allocated 3 separate dining rooms - one for Traditional dining (offering early and late dinner seating), one with Reservable times, and one for Walk-in Anytime (open-seating). The new options are integrated with the OceanNow service, allowing anything to be ordered anytime, and delivered anywhere onboard.

Shipboard entertainment options - Fun and Sport

The Princess Theater is the main venue on Caribbean Princess for comedy acts and production shows with a variety of music and selections appealing to a broad mix of ages. Each of the ship's venues has a different offering. Crooners feature music trivia contests and a pianist. Explorer's Lounge hosts events for everything from Wii sports tournaments to art auctions, plus comedy shows and magicians.

The Piazza offers various demonstrations, circus-lite acts and musical performances throughout the day.

Club Fusion is a part game show, part nightclub venue. Skywalker Nightclub, Princess' trademark, hosts the 70s-, the 80s- and the 90s-inspired nights and a few nights with a variety of modern music.

For low-key dancing, head to the Wheelhouse Bar, which hosts combos playing standards and soft rock.

Caribbean Princess Wiki

Princess Cruises Caribbean ship belongs to company's Grand-class liners ( Fincantieri Monfalcone -built), with (same-designed) sisterships Crown  and  Emerald . The ship is slightly bigger than the other (similarly-designed) Grand-Class liners  Star (now Pacific Encounter) ,  Golden (now Pacific Adventure)  and  Grand . The reason for this is the additional cabin deck (Riviera Deck). The vessel also has no sliding roof to cover the swimming pool area as this liner was planned for exclusively Caribbean itineraries.

Ship's christening ceremony was on April 2, 2004, held in  Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades, Florida) , from where also started the inaugural cruise (maiden voyage). Ship's godmother was Jill Whelan - US actress, best known for her role of Vicki Stubing in the 80's TV series "The Love Boat". The vessel was the biggest one in the fleet right until June 2013, when Royal Princess  entered into service.

Fun fact: Caribbean Princess is the first cruise vessel to have an open-air theatre/ outdoor movie screen (named "Movies under the Stars").

Ship's European maiden season was based on homeport Southampton England . Then, it was repositioned to  NYC New York  to operate Fall Foliage cruises to New England, then relocated back to Fort Lauderdale for roundtrip Caribbean itineraries. In April 2013, the liner was deployed back to Europe for the British Isles and various Northern European itineraries in Baltic Sea.

In early-September 2018, Caribbean Princess became fleet's first vessel with installed  Carnival Corporation's OceanMedallion technology  (wearable devices allowing passengers access to "virtual concierge" services and amenities, as well as interactive entertainment). The new technology also includes the MedallionNet - Wi-Fi connectivity via access points installed in every stateroom. Passengers on MedallionClass cruise liners experience land-like connection quality allowing streaming of movies, music, videos, video phone calls, real-time sharing on social media platforms.

Panama Canal cruise itineraries 2017

In 2017, Caribbean Princess made her maiden season of  Panama Canal transition cruises  through the new locks. The ship operated on the 10-day itinerary (with partial transits through the new Agua Clara locks) on roundtrips from  Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades, Florida) . The ship's first ever transit was on October 26, 2017. Prices started from USD 1250 pp (double occupancy). This voyage also celebrated Princess Cruises' 50th anniversary of the 1967 crossing (world's first ever on passenger ship).

The fleet mates  Coral  and  Island  continued to transit the canal through the 3 old locks (Pedro Miguel, Miraflores, Gatun). The new locks were officially inaugurated on June 26, 2016. They are the result of a 9-year (USD 5,2 billion) construction project.

USA to Greenland itinerary 2019

A new Greenland cruise roundtrip from USA (NYC New York ) was revealed in January 2018 for the Princess Cruises Caribbean ship.

  • The cruise departure was scheduled for August 19, 2019.
  • The 16-days long itinerary's ports of call were in Greenland (Nanortalik, Nuuk, Qaqortoq) and Canada (Halifax, Sydney, St Johns).
  • Cruise prices started from USD 2,500 pp (double occupancy Inside Cabin rate) plus additional USD 220 in Gov taxes and port fees.

Caribbean Princess refurbishment 2019 review

During drydock 2019 refurbishment (in June, done in Freeport Bahamas ) on the ship was installed fleet's first-ever waterpark - Reef Splash Zone (without waterslides!). Located aft-portside on Deck 17/Sports Deck (beneath the ramp leading to Skywalkers Nightclub on Deck 18), the water park was added as a new section to the original aft swimming pool (Pirate's View). The redesigned area now includes a large-sized Splashpad (outdoor water playground) fitted with splash pool, water cannons, water sprays, showers, interactive whale-like structure (with a "raining" fluke). The surrounding lounging area (designed for families with kids) was updated with new patio furniture (comfortable sectionals, chairs, sunloungers, padded garden couches with tables), new fixtures and finishes. The existing swimming pool, whirlpool hot tub (large outdoor Jacuzzi) and poolside bar (Morgan's Bar) were also renovated.

The newly-added Game Zone hosts family fun competitions and features oversized backyard games (the likes of Jenga, Cornhole, Connect Four). At Morgan's Bar (kids-friendly) parents can enjoy mocktails and cocktails. The surrounding lounge area is furnished with comfortable sectionals. The water-park is protected by wind panels (throughout the area) while its Shade Canopy (aft-starboard) is a sun-protected seating area covered with canvas canopies. The music system and lighting were upgraded (to the steps and swimming pool) and new wall lighting was installed for the evening open-deck parties, activities (including stargazing and educational kids programs) and themed events.

On Deck 16, the Spa complex (forward) was renovated, redesigned and updated with contemporary artworks and signage. On Deck 16 aft, at Camp Discovery Youth Center (kids-only complex for children 3-12 yo), the Outdoor Play Area was upgraded with an interactive water table for current itinerary/destination-themed fun activities.

Caribbean Princess refurbishment 2017 review

During the ship's 2017 drydock refurbishment (March 25 - April 5, done in Freeport Bahamas) resulted in the following deckplan changes:

  • New kids area ("Camp Discovery" / kids and teen center) was added aft on deck 17.
  • Pool deck's MUTS screen ("Movies Under the Stars" / 850-seat outdoor movie theatre) was upgraded.
  • The number of interconnecting cabins (for families) was increased with an additional 87 pairs.
  • (Lido Deck 15) "Horizon Court" was replaced by "World Fresh Marketplace". The ship's new buffet restaurant now has new decor, improved layout and more food options. Breakfast includes 24-hour cereal station, designer pancake station, hot cereal choices (like shrimp & grits and polenta porridge). Lunch includes hand-crafted sandwiches, regionally-inspired soups, a wide selection of meats (sausages, hams, roasted). Dinner includes family comfort foods, PB&J bar ("Peanut Butter and Jelly").  Nighttime buffet offerings include live-action cooking station (stir-fry, customized pasta, salads).
  • (Lido Deck 15) the ship now has 2 casual specialty restaurants formed from the old "Cafe Caribe". Both restaurants are designed for families with kids. The first at-fee restaurant ("Planks BBQ") serves family-style meat planks (ribs, beef, sausages, chicken) plus sides (fries, chili, coleslaw, charred toast, dill pickles).  Dinner here is served and costs USD 12 pp.  Free buffet-style breakfast and lunch here include customizable breakfast bowls, signature soup, fresh-made salads, fork & knife sandwiches. The second at-fee restaurant ("Steamers Seafood" offers steamers with regionally sourced seafood (Black and Blue Mussels, Scallops and Sausage, Classic Clams, Crab-stuffed Flounder).  Dinner is served and costs USD 12 pp.  Free buffet-style breakfast and lunch choices include egg dishes and ramen bowls.
  • Following the 2017 refurbishment, the ship's pool deck (15) offers 4 outdoor dining options. "The Salty Dog Grill" (formerly "Trident Grill") offers “The Ernesto” burger (best at sea), other specialty beef burgers (with handmade patties and buns), also Street Tacos (with grilled chipotle-lime chicken or roasted sweet potato, corn tortillas), fries and classic hot dogs. "Slice Pizzeria" (formerly "Prego Pizzeria") offers Neapolitan-style pizzas, Deep Dish Focaccia (with marinara, meatballs, cheese), California Artisanal Toast, Sliced Stromboli (calzone filled with deli meats and cheese). "Coffee & Cones" (formerly "Scoops Bar") offers gourmet ice cream sandwiches, free ice cream cones, specialty coffees and teas. "THE MIX" (formerly "Blackbeard’s Bar") / poolside drinks bar) was updated and redesigned.
  • The specialty Italian Trattoria restaurant Sabatini’s (formerly "SHARE by Curtis Stone", on Promenade Deck 7) was redesigned, debuting a new menu with antipasti and handmade pasta dishes by celebrity chef Angelo Auriana, Sabatini’s new menu was implemented fleetwide in 2017. Angelo Auriana is an Executive Chef and partner in the Los Angeles' Italian restaurants "The Factory Kitchen" and "Officine BRERA". Chef Auriana's dishes are based on using old-world grains (like buckwheat and durum wheat) giving them the protein strength necessary to keep the house-made pasta's shape. He also uses numerous non-traditional herbs (like mints and marjoram).

All stateroom beds (a total of 3200 units) were replaced with the company's signature "Princess Luxury Beds”.

Carnival's Ocean Medallion technology was installed in September 2018.

Freeport, the island’s capital city and the second largest city in the islands, is one of the best-known destinations in the Bahamas. The city was specifically designed for the tourist trade, and as a result features terrific duty-free shopping and many attractions to keep visitors entertained and enthralled. The 10-acre International Bazaar in downtown Freeport is divided into sections that represent different parts of the world, each with its own collection of shops and restaurants. You can easily spend a whole day exploring the Bazaar, and when you run out of money, just pay a visit to the Bahamia Casino nearby!. After the sun sets in Freeport, the night comes alive with entertainment and spectacle. Sit back and enjoy a dazzling show at the Casino Royale Theater, Joker’s Wild, or Club Tropicana, or visit one of the many nightclubs where you can catch the sounds of local bands. If you’re feeling lucky, the gaming action at the casinos rolls on virtually non-stop, featuring craps, blackjack, roulette, mini-baccarat, and all of the latest slot machines. There are also lessons for novice gamblers as well as the Sports Book betting facility, where you can place wagers on football, basketball, or hockey games. Later, when you’ve had your fill of partying and playing the odds, you can search out a cozy bar on the beach and watch the moonlight skip across the ocean while you eat conch fritters and toss back Bahama Mamas.

Grand Turk Island is the capital island of the Turks and Caicos archipelago, in the Atlantic Ocean. It’s dotted with the remains of salt ponds and windmills from the island’s sea salt industry, prevalent from the 17th to 20th century. The 19th-century Grand Turk Lighthouse is perched on a rocky bluff in the north. Beaches with clear water ring the island, which is home to wild horses and donkeys.

Risky Cities

Seversk, Tomsk Oblast, Russia

princess cruises handicapped rooms

Seversk is a small city located in Tomsk Oblast, Russia. As of 2021, it has a population of approximately 108,000 people. The city was founded in the late 1950s as a closed city, with restricted access to outsiders due to its important role in the Soviet Union's nuclear weapons program. Today, Seversk is no longer a closed city, but it remains an important center for nuclear research and production.

In terms of crime rates, Seversk is generally considered a safe city. According to official statistics, the overall crime rate in the city has been decreasing over the past few years. However, like any city, Seversk is not completely free from crime. The most common types of crime reported in the city are property crimes, such as theft and burglary. Violent crimes, such as assault and homicide, are relatively rare.

While Seversk is generally a safe city, there are still some areas that are considered more dangerous than others. In particular, visitors should exercise caution when traveling to the outskirts of the city or to areas that are not well-lit at night. Additionally, visitors should be aware of their surroundings and avoid carrying large sums of money or valuables with them.

The best time to be out in Seversk is during the day, when there are more people around and the streets are well-lit. Visitors should also be cautious when using public transportation, particularly at night. Taxis are generally a safe and reliable option for getting around the city.

One of the most important safety tips for visitors to Seversk is to be aware of the weather. The city experiences long, cold winters with temperatures often dropping below freezing. Visitors should dress warmly and be prepared for the weather conditions, particularly if they are planning to spend time outdoors.

Another important aspect of safety in Seversk is understanding the habits and customs of the people who live there. Russians are generally hospitable and friendly, but visitors should be aware of cultural differences and be respectful of local customs. For example, it is considered impolite to refuse food or drink that is offered to you by a host. Visitors should also be aware that smoking is allowed in many public places in Russia, including bars and restaurants.

In terms of history crime records, Seversk has a relatively low crime rate compared to other cities in Russia. However, there have been some high-profile crimes in the city over the years. In 2007, a former employee of a nuclear facility in Seversk was arrested for attempting to sell radioactive material on the black market. More recently, in 2018, a man was arrested in Seversk for attempting to build an explosive device.

Overall, Seversk is a safe and welcoming city for visitors. While there is some crime, particularly property crime, visitors who exercise caution and are aware of their surroundings should have a trouble-free stay. Visitors should be prepared for the cold weather and respectful of local customs, and should exercise caution when traveling to areas that are not well-lit or less populated. Taxis are generally a safe and reliable option for getting around the city, and visitors should be aware of the weather and dress accordingly.
