Hungry for pizza in Kansas City? Here's a guide to the city's many shops and styles

Detroit-style pizza with pepperoni, shredded basil and ricotta on a metal platter.

Kansas City doesn't have one distinct pizza style to call its own, but instead offers a smorgasbord of options — from gourmet Neapolitan to greasy New York slices. Take a journey through the best pizza restaurants around the metro.

This story was first published in KCUR's Creative Adventure newsletter. You can  sign up to receive stories like this in your inbox every Tuesday.

Pizza could be considered the third pillar of Kansas City’s culinary milieu, ranking just below barbecue and tacos.

Being in a food lover’s city, many of us have pretty impassioned opinions about pizza — even beyond the question of whether pineapple belongs on it or not.

We’ll leave those debates up to you, while we explore some of the various pizza styles available in Kansas City. Along the way you might recognize your favorite parlor, or a pie purveyor that’s brand new to you.

Consider this your passport to a world of pizza styles (and an excuse to try them all).

Neapolitan pizza

Neapolitan pizza in front of a wood burning oven.

Modern pizza as we know it can be traced back to Naples, Italy . That’s where our journey begins. Flatbreads with various toppings were an inexpensive and nutritious food sold at street stalls to people working low-wage jobs.

These first Neapolitan pizzas were made with simple ingredients such as garlic, lard and salt, and perhaps a bit of cheese and basil.

In 1522, Spaniards brought tomatoes from the Americas to Europe. By mid-century, people in Naples began using tomatoes as an ingredient and changed the course of Neapolitan pizza. Today’s traditional Neapolitan pizza features a crust made with flour, yeast, water and salt. The sauce is prepared with San Marzano tomatoes and salt.

In Kansas City, fans of Neapolitan pizza have several options. Craig Jones, the co-owner of 451 Pizza , recommends il Lazzarone in the River Market and 1889 Pizza Napoletana near Westwood in Kansas City, Kansas. Both restaurants serve traditional style wood-fired Neapolitan pies.

Rafi Chaudry, CEO of Torn Label Brewing Co., has traveled to cities across the U.S. in search of different pizza styles. Here at home, he recommends Devoured , a local pizza pop-up that brings its “Neapolitan-esque pizzas” directly to customers through various pop-up and private events.

“The crust at Devoured is rightfully the star on their pizzas,” says Chaudry. “I love the creativity on display at their pop-ups just as much as the dough.”

Thanks to Carrie W. for recommending another nearby shop serving Neapolitan style: Pomodoro Pizza Napoletana in Liberty, Missouri.

Pizza margherita

Pizza margherita on a stack of white plates.

When King Umberto I and Queen Margherita visited Naples in 1889, pizzaiolo Raffaele Esposito prepared three types of Neapolitan pizza for them. The queen favored the version topped with tomatoes, mozzarella and basil.

That approval gave acclaim to pizza margherita — a type of Neapolitan pizza — and elevated pizza in Italy from a local dish to national status worthy of royal appetites.

Naturally, pizza margherita is on the menu at both 1889 and il Lazzarone. But for the sake of comparison, we recommend sampling the versions at Bella Napoli , Lazia in the Crossroads Hotel and Cupini’s , too.

Detroit-style pizza

Providence Pizza brought Detroit-style pizza from the Motor City to the Paris of the Plains. Rectangular in shape, this deep-dish style features a crispy, chewy focaccia-type crust that’s thick but fluffy in texture. Typically, the pizza is smothered in brick cheese.

At Providence, “the flavor combinations are consistently compelling, and the Frico — the lacy, browned cheese crisp that adorns the edges of the pie — is a fitting crown,” says Chaudry.

You can build your own Detroit-style pizza at Providence, but we recommend trying a slice of the Motor City, shown in the photo at top. It’s got pepperoni, basil and red sauce topped with a three-cheese blend and dollops of ricotta. Take one bite and you’ll be hooked.

Sicilian-style pizza

Moretina’s Caddy Shack also serves a Sicilian-style thin crust — round and topped with sauce inspired by a family recipe.

Sicilian pizza’s thick crust is soft and spongy, similar to focaccia, as a result of extended time that allows the dough to rise. Lining the rectangular or square baking pan with olive oil creates a crispy bottom crust, another signature trait. When ordering a Sicilian-style pizza, you can anticipate more sauce and cheese compared to a Neapolitan pizza.

Chaudry points to Providence Pizza’s Rezy as Kansas City’s best Sicilian-style slice. Topped with a pink vodka sauce, housemade fresh mozzarella, fresh basil and sesame seed crust, it’s another delicious choice at Providence.

You can also find Sicilian-style pizzas at Marco Polo’s Italian Market , located next to Jaspers in south Kansas City.

Grandma pizza

Grandma pizza on a round metal platter.

Grandma pizza hails from Long Island, New York. The appellation refers to first-generation Italian grandmothers and mothers in the early 20th century who adapted to American kitchen ovens and sheet pans. No fancy pizza stone or other kitchenware is used.

Like Detroit-style pizza, it's usually rectangular shaped, but instead has a thin crust — with the cheese covering the dough first, and then the sauce. Long Island pizzerias adopted the homespun style as an homage to household nonne who made “pizza of the house.”

“I wouldn't have imagined that a Turkish restaurant would offer Kansas City's best Grandma Pizza, but there's no question that Clay & Fire tops the local list,” says Chaudry. “It's not entirely traditional to the style’s Long Island roots as their version is circular rather than rectangular, but the fresh basil and garlicky tomato topping is a celebration of sweet simplicity.”

To add another stamp of approval, Kansas City Magazine declared Clay & Fire’s Grandma Pizza their “Pie of the Year” in 2022.

New York-style pizza

A slice of New York-style pizza on a white paper plate.

No other style inspires heated debate about authenticity quite like New York-style pizza. We’re talking about a large hand-tossed crust spread thin with a thick, crispy edge, topped with red sauce and shredded mozzarella. You can zhuzh up a slice with a dusting of oregano, red chili flakes, honey or Parmesan cheese if you must.

New York-style slices are thin and pliable enough to fold, and made to eat on the go.

Until you book a plane ticket to the Big Apple, try these local options and see what you think.

“New York is still one of the most-imitated styles,” says Chaudry. “ Leone’s Original Pizza in Overland Park is a nostalgic favorite for many but its appeal goes beyond nostalgia. It is still the closest thing to an authentic New York slice to be found in these parts.”

Erik Borger, the former owner of il Lazzarone, went back to his East Coast roots when he opened Pizza Tascio in North Kansas City. Borger’s obsession with ingredients, process and the pursuit of perfection is no surprise to local foodies and fans of his pies. You can also find Pizza Tascio locations on 39th Street in Kansas City, in St. Joseph, Overland Park and even Lawrence.

St. Louis-style pizza

A St. Louis-style pizza is being sliced with a round pizza cutter on a metal platter.

Any self-respecting native Kansas Citian would shudder at the sight of St. Louis-style pizza. Distinctive for its thin, cracker-like crust and cut into rectangular pieces, you can’t really fold a slice of St. Louis-style pizza.

The style’s other signature trait is the use of Provel cheese, a processed mixture of provolone, Swiss and white cheddar cheeses. Provel is not used in other pizza styles, and in fact, the blend isn’t widely available outside of the St. Louis area.

Good-natured trash talk aside, St. Louis-style pizza has a rich history worth exploring and tasting , whether this regional style inspires cringing or craving. Besides, Kansas City doesn’t have its own established style.

Maybe Missourians should embrace this contribution from St. Louis… maybe.

St. Louis-style pizza is available at Imo’s Pizza in Kansas City and Overland Park — this St. Louis-based chain may not be the style's inventor, but it's the shop that popularized and remains most famous (or infamous) for it today.

And, according to David B. and several other readers, Leo's Pizza in the northland serves up a delicious St. Louis-style pizza as well.

Popular south Kansas City destination Waldo’s Pizza takes the style to the next level, using a combination of mozzarella, provolone, Swiss, cheddar and muenster cheeses, with garlic butter for good measure.

Chicago-style, bar pizza and other noteworthy mentions

A Chicago-style pizza on a platter, next to slices of pizza on white plates.

Finding an authentic Chicago-style pizza outside the Windy City is no simple task, even here in Kansas City. Thankfully, Chicago-style pizza fans can delight in the deep dish at Third Coast Pizza , located in Lenexa, Kansas. Third Coast recreates a taste of Chicago with gut-pleasing results.

Several readers reached out with recommendations for where to find a good slice of deep-dish Chicago-style pizza. That list includes Abe's Pizza in Leavenworth — Chrystal P. says the Chi Pie is a must-try — and Rosati's in Overland Park.

“I’m a native Chicagolander and grew up eating Rosati’s," says Kelsey M. "My heart sang when I found out there’s one (now two) in Overland Park. I think I may’ve shed some real tears. Their double dough is a Chicago classic — and truly divine — but they also serve deep dish.” Thanks also to Josh S. and Susan L. for recommending Rosati’s.

Sometimes a good bar pizza — thick and loaded with toppings — doesn’t align to one particular style. Minsky’s is well-known here, but don’t overlook Martin City Pizza and Guy’s Deli & Pizza (formerly Joe’s Pizza) in Westport.

Last but not least, Pizza Shuttle doesn’t represent a style as much as it is a lifestyle. It’s a slice of hot, greasy nostalgia, especially for Jayhawks. University of Kansas alumni, undergraduates and local pizza fans can get their Pizza Shuttle fix in Lawrence, Overland Park and Kansas City’s Crossroads.

IN Kansas City Magazine

When the school year starts and those lazy days of summer end, it can be hard to keep up with everything—especially planning dinners every night.

After a long evening of toting around the kids from soccer practice to dance rehearsal, picking up a pizza pie that will feed the family—and possibly leave behind some leftovers—sounds like a pretty good idea.

Whether you’re looking for the best meat-lovers pizza, a Chicago-style deep dish, something unique like a crab Rangoon pizza, or a pizza that’s a bit healthier, we’ve got you covered with these eight recommendations around the metro.

Local legends

Waldo Pizza , three locations Want a thin crust pizza that takes cheesy to the next level? Try “Kansas City’s Great Little Place” and its combination of mozzarella, provolone, Swiss, cheddar + muenster cheeses.

Minsky’s Pizza , 17 locations Close your eyes and walk 20 feet in any direction... you’ll more than likely end up at a Minsky’s. The pie shop has earned its place as KC’s most ubiquitous pizza connoisseurs, and for good reason.

Old Shawnee Pizza , three locations Since 1969, this family-owned business has served up slices of heaven with cracker-thin crusts to local pizza lovers.

Grinders KC , Crossroads Nosh + mosh at this live music venue known for it’s fantastic fare.

Pizza Bar , Power & Light This pair as old as time shines in the Power & Light District where Thursday evenings means $15 pizzas with $5 craft beers all night long.

Up-Down KC , Crossroads Mario Kart and Mac-n-Cheese pizza. Yes, you heard us right — this arcade bar specializes in crafting cheesy slices to fuel your evening of classic gaming.

No I’m not crying, my eyes are just sweating from the brick oven.

Cross-country crusts

Third Coast Pizza , Lenexa

Dig into some deep dish at this Chicago-inspired joint. Want more than just a pie, try itsChicago dogs or a slice of “Mommy’s Homemade Cheesecake,” made straight from the heart and going straight into your stomach.

Providence Pizza , Westport + Grandview

Step outside of the pizza box and try a rectangular slice. No, we’re not recommending St. Louis-style, but rather a classic from up north. Get a taste of its Detroit-style Motor City pie and you’ll understand.

Pizza Tascio , three locations

East Coast pizza made with only the finest ingredients (can anyone say “100% whole milk mozz” without drooling?) is what Pizza Tascio is all about.

Fancier fare

Martin City Brewing Co. , six locations Pizza, beer + the KC Current — this southside classic is not only available for sit-down, but will soon enough be available in the world’s first stadium built for women’s sports.

Il Lazzarone , Rivermarket Forgo greasy fare and step into a Neapolitan dream — this Rivermarket joint is more divine than dive. Try its Margherita made traditional with San Marzano tomatoes, mozzarella, basil, extra-virgin olive oil + sea salt. Simple, just as the Italians intended.

Clay and Fire , Westside Crispy, cheesy, delicious — what more could you want from a brick-oven fired pizza? Exceptional spices and fresh produce from nearby farms? They’ve got that too.

KCtoday_Pizza51

Pizza + beer = a Kansas City food pyramid

It’s delivery

Pizza Shuttle , two locations K-State and KU grads may remember the good ol’ days of ordering 10 Fers like they were going out of style. Now you can relive the glory of a late night study sesh with delivery from one of its two KC locations.

Leone Original Pizza , Overland Park Sick of traditional delivery options? Try this traditional New York Style slice that’s fed the metro for over 30 years.

Pizza 51 , South Plaza Think a gas station turned college pizza joint sounds like the perfect place for a delicious slice + a cold beer? You’d be more than right — sweeten the deal by ordering delivery and never leaving your couch again.

We know, this is just a piece of the pie. If your favorite place to get pizza wasn’t mentioned, let us know so we can show it some love in the future.

Let's get started, 816.393.0077, [email protected], kansas city, mo, @dispatchpizzakc.

The very first pizzas were created by Pizzaioli on the streets of Naples, and served straight out of a wood fired oven. Sixty seconds in the oven was just enough time to make magic happen. The dough rises and bubbles, the hand-stretched mozzarella and San Marzano tomato coalesce in the smoky heat, and the fresh basil bursts with herbaceousness. Just a pile of raw ingredients a minute ago, it is now the perfect balance of flavor, texture, temperature and aroma. This simple street food has become one of humanity’s greatest culinary delights.

Pizza passions run high, but few would argue that Neapolitan-style pizza is both the genesis and pinnacle of the pizza world. At Dispatch Pizza we have created a dough recipe that accentuates the best qualities of a true Neapolitan-style pizza, but can also stand up to the rigors of a catering service. We let our dough ferment for three days for maximum gluten development. This creates an aromatic and bubbly crust that has just the right ratio of crispy-and-chewy texture, perfect flavor, and the durability to make it to your event.

Pizza dough may be the foundation of any great pizza, but toppings are essential. Dispatch Pizza only uses the finest ingredients for our toppings. Seasonality and hyper-locality are key to our selections. We choose the most exceptional ingredients available and curate a pizza menu for your party. Our list of available pizzas changes throughout the year as ingredients fall in and out of season. Rest assured we will bring the best flavors of the season to your event. Buon Appetito!

So cool to be back in the former Riegler Hotel in the Crossroads and to experience its rebirth as The Wise Guy, an Italian tavern. Entering its second week, we had a great time being served by Zach Marten and Bret Springs, the creative forces behind this new restaurant. The menu features a solid selection of Italian favorites from starters, salads, pizza and pasta. Lots of delish craft cocktails to enjoy as well. We started with the Meatballs and the Baked Taleggio. As much as we loved the rich marinara sauce with the meatballs, the show stopper was the puff pastry and Calabrian Chile Fermented Honey. Wow! We followed Bret's suggestion on the pizza: the Spicy Sausage and Giardiniera. This pizza screams Chicago from the thin crust to the Italian relish. It was perfect! For pasta we got a combo of Chicken Parmesan and Rigatoni Alla Vodka. A hearty portion full of Italian yum! We made room for the classic Tiramisu and it did not disappoint. If you want to spend less money, the Happy Hour food and drink specials from 4-6pm are outstanding.

Located on Main Street in the historic Rieger building. The street presence is phenomenal and the inside looks even better. It's a total makeover in here and it is working. The vibes were just totally on point. The music was on point, it was buzzy, the bar was packed, lighting levels were coming correct via very unique lighting fixtures. But I desperately wish the bar stools had backs - especially for eating italian food. Speaking of which, ordering was a tough decision that I thought about all day long. They have lots of apps, salads, sandwiches, pizzas - which seem very popular - as well as their pasta dishes. My husband and I shared apps (Garlic Knots, Meatballs, Mozzerella Sticks) and the Italian Chopped Salad. Which was truly more than enough. The meatballs had good flavor, a little dense. The mozz sticks, also had good flavor but definitely wish we had a larger group for that dish. And the garlic knots were SO good because they were soft and fluffy - not tough at all. For drinks, husband got the Black Manhattan - delish - followed by the Hookwinked - which burned at first but mellowed out towards the middle. I started with a glass of red wine, which I really enjoyed. Then, I had to try the espresso martini which sadly - I couldn't finish. Idk if it was just the acidic nature of everything or just how full I was. I can't wait til this hot spot mellows out and we can just walk-in for happy hour at the bar or to try one of their pizzas! But for now, make a reservation if you want to check this spot out!

The Wise Guy, located in the old Reiger space, offers pasta, pizza, salads, and more! This spot is a definite winner. The chicken parm has a really good crust and the bold vodka sauce left me craving more. The salad was perfectly dressed, it wasn't drowning in dressing. The food was flavorful and balanced. I definitely think Wise Guy is gonna be a knockout in KC! With prices ranging from $16 to $30, the value for the quality of food is exceptional. Their happy hour specials, featuring $15 pizzas and $10 cocktails and martinis from Monday to Friday, are a steal. The service alongside the food was also excellent - the servers and managers were all so kind, gave great recommendations, and just provided a great time! Really intrigued to try the pizzas here cause it looks delicious especially with that thin crust. Already looking forward to coming back!

I just had dinner at The Wise Guy, and wow, I felt like I was in New York, not Kansas City. This place has an incredible vibe--the kind of energy you only get in big-city restaurants. The decor is sleek, with dim lighting, and lots of exposed brick. It was packed, but it felt cozy and inviting, like a hidden gem you'd find in the Village. The service was top-notch from the moment we walked in. Our waitress, Jane, was super friendly and had great recommendations. She was there when we needed her but didn't hover, which is the best kind of service if you ask me. The food was fantastic. We started with the mozzarella sticks and the garlic knots - both delicious. The Caeser salad was enough to feed the 4 of us. I had the penne alla vodka, and it was creamy and rich, with a nice kick from the vodka. We also got the wise guy pizza, which if you're a fan of a loaded meat pizza, this is a must try. The crust was thin and crispy. We were all very impressed. Overall, I can't say enough good things about The Wise Guy. The food was amazing, the service was friendly, and the whole place felt like it was plucked right out of New York City. If you're in Kansas City and craving Italian, this is the place to go. I'm definitely coming back!

Some of the best pizza I've ever had. Great happy hour deals on food and drinks and amazing staff. The low lights and speak easy vibe makes it an amazing atmosphere.

Tried to walk in with one other person and couldn't get a table during prime time. First tried to use online reservations through their website. That didn't work correctly, unfortunately. So we ordered carry out and it was fast and tasty. I had the deviled eggs and chip salad. My guest had the ravioli and liked it. Seems like a nice atmosphere inside.

From the moment we stepped in, the warm ambiance embraced us, setting the perfect stage for an unforgettable culinary journey. Let's talk about the food - WOW! Each dish was a masterpiece, crafted with care and bursting with flavor. The pasta was cooked to perfection, and the sauces? Pure perfection. And don't get me started on the pizza - it was like a slice of heaven! The drink selection was equally impressive. Whether you're a wine connoisseur or prefer a refreshing cocktail, they've got you covered. The staff were friendly and attentive, making our dining experience even more enjoyable. The prices were reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. Trust me, if you're a fan of Italian cuisine, The Wise Guy is a must-visit. I can't wait to come back and explore more of their menu!

Went on a rainy Thursday for happy hour at the Wise Guy. What a great addition to the Kansas City restaurant scene. The bar is beautiful, dark paneled and well staffed. The bar tenders and wait staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Our waitress was attentive and gave stellar recommendations throughout our meal. We had pizza, the wise guy and the spicy sausage with giardiniera. Both were delicious. I grew up in the Chicago suburbs and this was the best rendition of the crispy, cracker crust pub pizza that I grew up with in KC. So, so good. Loved the cocktails, which are discounted at happy hour. We had a tiramisu cannoli for dessert, which was made in house and was creamy and crispy in all the best ways. Cannot wait to go back.

This week we tried this place because of a recent writeup online. I do realize this a new establishment but Im providing my honest review. Service: we walked in. There was a cool long bar so we headed there. The host stopped us and guided is (placed us at the bar). Fine. But this was interesting. He told is well he might move us down at some point. Huh? First, why sit us there in the first place. Second, once someone is settled in for dinner who wants to be shuffled around all night. Place us where you want. We ended up just moving and hoping we wouldn't be bothered again. Food: it was okay. I am from Chicago and was excited about the "Chicago style" thin crust pizza. It was definitely thin and cut party style. There needs to me more toppings. We had squares with just cheese. My partner had the chicken parm with pasta. It was fine. We might go again in 6 months once they're more established.

Pizza cones will get you fueled on your tour of Kansas City

The pizza cone is a staple of the Oak Park Mall in suburban Overland Park, Kan.

(By Tom Uhlenbrock/P-D)

There is plenty else new in Kansas City besides the eight-block Power & Light District. Like pizza cones.

Kornet Pizza is an Italian company that markets the innovative way to eat pizza, and its first U.S. franchise is in the food court of the Oak Park Mall in suburban Overland Park, Kan. The idea behind pizza-in-a-cone is to provide the convenience for shoppers eating on the go. The company says it uses all-natural ingredients and “original Italian recipes in line with Neapolitan tradition.”

We tried one and, indeed, it was easy to eat. The crusty cone was full of cheese and meat and didn’t drip as we walked through the mall.

Pizza comes in many shapes and sizes, from traditional Neapolitan pizza to Chicago-style deep-dish to rectangular Sicilian pizza and more. Did you know that Australia even has its own style of pizza? It’s topped with barbecue sauce, bacon and eggs and would probably be great eaten first thing in the morning.

But despite the wide variety of pizza options out there, arguably the most ubiquitous pizza of them all — even amongst Italians — is New York-style pizza. As a result, the trend of taking a pizza tour in NYC has skyrocketed.

overhead shot of new york style pizza pie

What is New York-style pizza? The answer varies depending on who you ask, but most say it is characterized by its size, which typically stands at around 18 inches in diameter per pie. It always has a flour, sugar and oil-based dough and a tomato-sauce-topped crust, although the toppings vary.

Some argue that New York City’s water is integral to their doughy crust, although this has not been scientifically proven. Regardless, there is something extra-special about NYC pizza, whether it’s eaten by the slice (folded in half, of course) or by the pie (which is what all true New Yorkers call a whole pizza). And a pizza tour in NYC will offer incredible history along with incredible bites, so your curiosity and appetite will both be satisfied.

Taking a pizza tour in NYC can be a great way to experience the iconic eateries that made New York City a pizza lover’s paradise.

New York’s first pizzeria was called Lombardi’s and opened in Little Italy in 1905. Believe it or not, Lombardi’s still exists and has even opened a second store in Chelsea, although the prices have since increased from the original price of 5 cents per pie!

One may assume that Lombardi’s is the best pizza in New York considering it’s the originator, but being the oldest doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the best. New Yorkers hold strong opinions about which pizza parlor they rate the highest and oftentimes, they have difficulty choosing just one.

Take Best Pizza in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. It’s owned by a host of Vice’s Munchies and serves a simple selection of old-school style pies and slices. Then there’s Bleeker Street Pizza in Greenwich Village, voted “Best Pizza in NY” by Food Network, famous for their Tuscan-style pizza called the Nonna Maria. Kesté Pizza & Vino, on the other hand, is also in the Village but specializes in crust that’s made with 00 flour and lightly fried.

The city is home to many types of pizza, all of which have their own benefits. That’s the beauty of taking a pizza tour in NYC. You can enjoy a selection of New York’s best pizzas and relish in the unique characteristics that each one brings to the table. Not only that, but a pizza tour in NYC means you receive guidance from the experts of New York pies rather than trying to guess the best slice on your own.

Enjoyed a pizza tour leave a review, buy the book, we also offer custom-curated experiences, already a fan shop the pizza city store, welcome pizza enthusiasts.

Chicago is a pizza town, no doubt about it, and who better to lead a tour through the region’s best pizza places than the guy who wrote the book on the subject? Steve Dolinsky is a 13-time James Beard Award-winning food reporter who’s lived in Chicago for more than 25 years. He’s eaten more than his fair share of pizza for his work as the “Hungry Hound” at ABC 7 News, Host/Producer of the “Pizza City” Podcast and travel writer for The Chicago Tribune. Steve tried 185 pizzas in the region, settling on 101 outstanding pizzas, broken into 10 distinct styles. One of the biggest surprises of all: Chicago is a “thin” town (that is, tavern-style, square-cut) as opposed to the deep-dish and stuffed images of gigantic pies most people associate with The Windy City.

New pizza tour and book proclaims chicago pizza city, usa.

"At each pizza place, Dolinsky is a little bit pizza Einstein, talking about things like 'OBR' (that’s 'optimal bite ratio,' and refers to the preferred distribution of crust, sauce, toppings and cheese) and 'PIGUE syndrome' ('Pizza I Grew Up Eating' syndrome, alluding to the inability to distinguish between what’s good and what’s known). And he’s a little bit pizza Yoda: 'All deeps are pans but not all pans are deeps,' he muses."
