Crazy Safari
- Two guys, one of them a magician, are transporting an ancient Chinese vampire who can only be controlled by a series of yellow tapes and is the ancestor of the other man. On the way, their plane stalls while flying over Africa. And of all places, where do they land? That's right, in the village of the tribe of "The Gods Must Be Crazy". — Parca Mortem <[email protected]>
- Two men, one of them a Taoist priest (Lam Ching Ying) with special powers, including the power to raise and control the dead, must transport a well-preserved ancient Chinese corpse from Europe to Hong Kong for burial in ancestral lands to prevent him from transforming into a Gyonsi (a hopping Chinese vampire). While flying over Africa, their plane malfunctions and its occupants must parachute to safety. Hilariously, they land near the home of the tribe portrayed in the film "The Gods Must Be Crazy." In that earlier film, African native Xi (N!xau) retrieves a Coke bottle that was tossed from a plane and mistakes it for a gift from God. In this one, he retrieves the Chinese corpse.

“Are we in hell?” -Ching-Ying Lam’s Taoist priest upon walking into a Halloween street party
There Be Spoilers.
Who is your favourite Bruce Lee knockoff? As Woovember takes me into the seedy world of Brucesploitation, I was left pondering what traits I look for in the men who would be Lee. I’ll admit to having a certain fondness for The Dragon Lives Again’s Bruce Leung, who enjoyed a career comeback as Kung Fu Hustles’ Beast. Like a fatty artery, Bruce Le’s Pieces pop-up is firmly entrenched in my tiny heart. Running through the list of celebrities that got in on the action, from Jackie Chan to Sammo Hung, I was surprised by the answer... N!xau.
Yes, the Namibian bushman from…

An unofficial Hong Kong sequel to The Gods Must Be Crazy made its way onto my laptop this afternoon and I have to say while it lacks the naïve innocent charm of the 1st The Gods Must Be Crazy it was an interesting watch as it featured one of my favorite movie themes Hopping Vampires!
But it offered so much more.. the Chinese Necromancer and his companion out in the wilds of Africa searching for their hopping vampire having wild and crazy encounters with a lion, baboons, a Rhino who kept stomping out fires, humongous boa constrictor, an agitated cobra and ostriches that didn't seem to mind being taken for a joyride!
While the story seemed to meander all over…

The Gods have never been more crazier than this. A cinematic trainwreck surrealist circus lost in the African wilderness. Fucking love it. :) But if you decide to check this out, caution advised, it's a crazy safari. Night7.

Not the greatest thing ever but as a kid's movie I enjoyed this better than the original as blasphemous as that may sound to some.

The forgotten foreign movie crossover of Mr. Vampire and The Gods Must Be Crazy. A big F.U. to Fortune Star for not bothering to subtitle the Stephen Chow and Ng Man Dat narration. I know you guys hate us gweilos but come on, man!
Review by Georgedcc
I have never been more sure in my life that a film like this would end up stumbling into something incredibly accidentally racist. I'd have bet my life on it.
Lam Ching Ying is a Taoist Priest (of course!) who wakes up a jiangshi at an auction in England on Halloween. There's some relatively fun stuff with a jiangshi in a non-HK urban environment, handling muggers and Halloween revellers.
On the way home they crash land in Africa and cross paths with N!xau, a local tribesman and we basically have Mr Vampire in Africa. We have Lam Ching Ying and his sidekick being chased by a man (men) in a rhino suit, while attempting to put Taoist charms on it…

Every single frame of this is a cursed image.
Review by pkazee ★★★★ 1
Incredible cultural hodge-podge mixing Mr. Vampire with The God's Must Be Crazy. Has to be seen to be believed.
And, oh... contrary to what is stated in the letterboxd description, the Chinese lead (Lam Ching Ying) plays Taoist Priest, not a magician.. though, as a Taolist Priest, he performs magical rites.
Plus, unlike others, I don't think enjoyment of the film is hindered in the least by the absence of the translation of the Stephen Chow & Ng Man Tat's occasional voiceover narration... (which I'd guess was added as an afterthought anyway).

Sjukt att jag har kvar denna på VHS. klassiker nonetheless
Review by Danakin Filmwatcher ★½
From my last watch of the CGI safari of the live action Lion King to Crazy Safari AKA The Gods Must Be Crazy 3! Talk about a franchise jumping the shark! Or jumping the Chinese vampire, should I say! The gods must be crazy for making this movie exist! It lost all the charm of the first two films, is a ridiculously silly concept for these faux anthropological documentaries, and large swaths of the movie are only in Chinese or the native African language the returning main character, N!xau, and his tribe speak! Honestly I couldn’t even sit through it and neither could my kids, so we just skimmed through the movie. Maybe it there was at least subtitles, we…
