Mid Travel Kit

Mid Travel Kit

 Description

The Dirt King mid travel kit was developed to drastically improve the vehicles off-road handling without compromising its day to day driving characteristics. This suspension system allows for 10.5” of travel and accepts up to a 35” tire. The kit is compatible with 2WD and 4WD models. We’ve upgraded the lower arm outer pivot to heavy duty Moog ball joints and 1” uniballs for the upper arm outer pivot. This allows for superior strength and increased articulation. The suspension system also accommodates for bump stops to be used with the coil overs if desired. This kit is CAD designed, thoroughly tested, and 100% made in America resulting in a product we’re proud to put our name on!

 Specifications

  • Wheel Travel: 10.5”
  • Amount of Lift: 0-3”
  • Track Width: Stock Width
  • Maximum Tire Size: 35”
  • Maximum Back Spacing: 4.75”
  • Minimum Rim Size: 17”
  • Bump Stop Size: 2.0” x 2.0”
  • Coil Over Shock Size with Shock Hoop Kit: 2.5” x 8”
  • Coil Over Shock Size: King OEM replacement shocks

Shocks For the best performance and to achieve the full 10.5” of travel you must purchase our spec built shocks or have them custom built based on our coil over spec sheet. These shocks must be used with shock hoops which requires cutting and welding to the vehicle. For direct bolt on applications King OEM replacement coil overs can be installed. These shocks won’t allow for the full amount of travel. Both pairs of shocks will work with 2WD or 4WD models.  For more dampening the suspension system has the ability to use bump stops along with the coil overs. The use of bump stops will also require welding and modifications to the frame.

Wheel Travel When shopping long travel kits many consumers tend to focus just on travel numbers. This is the reason many companies claim inaccurate numbers or don’t disclose the amount of work involved to achieve these numbers. Our goal is to build a suspension system with the highest amount of wheel travel without requiring major modifications to the vehicle or compromising its overall drivability.

Tire Info When using 35” tires with this kit modifications to the wheel well will need to be made. The firewall pinch weld will need to be folded over and front cab mount needs to be shaved to avoid contact while turning. The upper wheel well will also need to be modified to avoid contact at full bump.

CAMBURG FORD RANGER 2WD/4WD 19-21 FOX 2.5 FACTORY DSC KIT

CAMBURG FORD RANGER 2WD/4WD 19-21 FOX 2.5 FACTORY DSC KIT

  • Description
  • Customer Reviews
  • 1-3″ lift (front)
  • Improved ride & handling
  • Easy bolt-on installation
  • Made in the USA

Update:   Ford introduced a cast steel knuckle/spindle (painted black) in mid 2020 which has a different upper ball-joint taper than the aluminum versions (raw silver). We now include both sets of lower uniball spacers with our arms so everyone has what they need in one part number.

Our Camburg FOX 2.5 Factory DSC Series kit is the ultimate mid travel suspension system for your Ford Ranger utilizing FOX’s 2.5 series of shocks and our uniball upper arms.

If you want the best in performance and style for your new Ford Ranger, the FOX 2.5 DSC coil-over kits are the way to go. These give you the ability to lift and vastly improve the ride quality both on and off-road. Each coil-over is designed to gain maximum wheel travel with an aftermarket upper arm all while keeping CV joints, tie rods, uni-balls and ball-joints in their working ranges. FOX’s have a 2.5″ diameter shock body for added oil capacity for aggressive use both on and offroad. Based on their race shocks, they are fully rebuild-able and revalve-able for optional tuning and maintenance. The remote external reservoirs increase the oil capacity for lower operating temperatures and the Dual Speed Compression (DSC) adjuster gives remarkable versatility and precise tuning. A simple twist of either two adjuster knobs allows twelve separate low-speed and ten high-speed compression levels. The integrated coil spring can be adjusted for preload and ride height and comes pre-set to level your vehicle right out of the box.

After lifting your truck, the stock upper arms become the limiting factor and hold back your suspensions performance. Our upper arms address these issues and more.  You can choose between our tubular and billet uniball arms depending on your budget and type of use. We’re able to increase wheel travel with a part that is considerably stronger and will last longer under extreme conditions. We also engineered the arms with more caster and changed the camber curve to correct geometry so the vehicle aligns correctly and improves driving characteristics and handling both on and off-road. For more info on all our arms, check out their individual product pages to help make your choice.

In the rear we go with a pair of FOX’s 2.5 Factory Series DSC remote res. shocks. They have a substantial increased oil capacity due to their size and have a lot more control and damping. These also have FOX’s Dual Speed Compression (DSC) adjusters for low and high speed compression to really dial the ride in.  Since they are longer in length they increase rear wheel travel and articulation. These are designed to be used with the stock leaf springs or Deaver leaf springs for maximum useable wheel travel and performance.

2001 Ranger XLT Mid Travel Setup

  • Thread starter randomname762
  • Start date Mar 31, 2019

randomname762

Hey guys. So I have a 2001 Ford Ranger XLT RWD 4.0 SOHC, and I'm finally going to add some suspension to it. I'm trying to make a mid travel setup for trail riding mainly. I'm not going to be racing or jumping or any of that fun. That said I want everything to fit under the bed in the rear. I don't want to have to cut or run a bed cage. I've done my research over the various forums and have ended up with this parts list: Camburg 5.5 Performance 5.5 Kit ( https://camburg.com/shop/suspension/camburg-ford-ranger-xlt-2wd-98-12-performance-5-5-kit/ ) Deaver Ranger F31 Leaf Springs ( https://deaverspring.com/product/ranger-1983-2008-7-leaf-2-1-2-inch-lift-rear-spring/ ) Kartek Drop Flipped Shackle Mounts ( https://www.kartek.com/parts/ford-r...ear-bottom-of-bed-with-extended-shackles.html Camburg Extended Length Shackles ( https://camburg.com/shop/suspension...-12-f-150-82-03-silverado-99-17-mig-shackles/ ) Fox Performance 2.0 Shocks ( https://www.4wheelparts.com/p/fox-r...body-ifp-shock-980-24-649/_/R-BKTK-980-24-649 ) With this setup I should be pulling 10" in the front and I've heard 14" in the rear without cutting into the bed. Now for my questions. I want to run 33x10.5s without fiberglass fenders. Will I be able to pull out my fenders enough to clear those without rubbing? Also, The Camburg 5.5 kit comes with Bilstein 5100s, but they are not rebuildable or revalveable as far as I know. I wanted to know if I can throw some Fox 2.0s in there so I can at least tune them. The closest I've found are these Fox 2.0 Performance Series Smooth Body IFP - 980-24-648 ( https://offroadwarehouse.com/i-1016...k-0-3-lift-for-1998-2013-ford-ranger-2wd.html ). Could I get those to fit with the Camburg 5.5 kit? Also, I'm wondering if there's any way to get 12" of travel up front with this kit? I've seen the Camburg 2.0 Shock Upgrade kit ( https://camburg.com/shop/suspension/camburg-ford-ranger-xlt-98-12-2-0-shock-upgrade-kit/ ), but I don't really think I'll want, (or can afford), to run a remote reservoir shock. I'm trying to build on a budget. What will be my best bet to get more travel out of the front, or at least be able to tune what I can get out of it? Thanks.

74grabber

Go with a btf midtravel kit for the front if you want 12 inches of front travel. Wont get it with 5.5 kit. But honestly the 5.5 kit with 2.0s sounds like a good setup for you. Make sure and get gusset kit no matter what you do. In rear 14 inch without cutting up bed wont happen unless you spend the money for a rear cantilever setup. Either cut up bed or remove factory spare tire setup and get new shock mounts setup with an 8 inch shock in there and cycle rear over and over until you get what you want. You might get 12 out of it with really funky shock angles. 10 controllable is better then 12 uncontrollable Extended shackles are not needed, just flip kartek hangers and move front holes to back with stock shackles and cycle until your happy. On tires depends on wheel offset, up front with 33x12.5s your either going to need to cut up the fronts as well or go fiberglass. My setup is 5.5 kit up front with 2.0s and gussets, rear deavers flipped kartek hangers stock shackles moved back, billstein 5165 in stock location rear shocks, with 32x11.5x15 tires. Pulled front and rear fenders with trimming. Weakest link in my truck is lack of travel in rear. I can build new mounts to try and get letter better in rear end bit in my opinion its not worth the effort so im in stages of just doing it right and building bed cage. Then add hydro bumps back up front So my opinion is either fork over money to buy a cantilever setup for rear if you REALLY REALLY want to not cut up bed. But once you put spare tires tools, jack, and odds and ends in bed of truck you will realize you have no room for anything else anyways, might as well cut it up for bedcage.

so I talked to Brandon at BTF and decided that a mid travel setup is a waste of money. Buy once, cry once. I'm going to go all out (by that I mean within my budget) and get the basic long travel coil spring kit. https://btffabrication.com/collecti...-14-ranger-basic-longtravel-coilspring-trucks I would much rather get an entry level long travel setup. I know this will cost thousands more but I know it will be worth it in the long run. It will just take longer to get everything. I want to run the best king shocks I can get on there, as long as it doesn't exceed 2 grand. Brandon told me about 1200 for the coil overs, but I think those were the cheaper ones. I know I need bump stops and limit straps and to fab the shock and resi mount. What else am I going to need for this kit? I already ordered the F31 Deavers and have the Kartek drop/flipped mount, the Fox 2.0s, and the extended shackles will be here monday. I'm going to run that as is and after I get the rest of the truck built up I'll build a low profile bed cage that's as non intrusive as possible and replace the shocks with Kings to get the most out of the Deavers that I can. What else do I need to do and get to make sure this is a reliable and durable set up? I want to get the I most out of this that I possibly can. Thanks.

Brandon steered you in the right direction for sure. Hard to judge over the internet how much someone is willing to spend. Brandon also sells a kit for an easy solution for cutting out coil buckets and boxing back in. Also dont forget engine cage to tie both shocks together, some fiberglass for the front, and choice of spindles. If you can wait a little longer now is the time for brandons d35 spindles. With your rear choice your going to need to bump and strap as well or your going to destroy the shocks quickly. Other stuff to look into clevis steering brandon and camburg make them, also tntfab is going to start producing rack saver system that looks very promising. Plenty of info on that kit on dezertrangers in builds and brandon has a thread of all his products on there somewhere. You made a solid choice, you wont be dissapointed with brandons products. He is the a arm go to guy lol. Welcome to the financial sucking rabbit hole of prerunners.

voogan

btf was good choice. ive got the mid an happy with it.

Long travel suspension options

  • Add to quote

Hi all. Long time listener, first time caller here. I’m debating between adding a Turbo R to the garage or modifying my 2021 Polaris Ranger XP1000 crew Northstar Ultimate with long travel suspension. Most of my time is on mountain trails but I’d like the ability to hit Moab and Sand Hollow as well. I know I won’t be able to do all the RZR obstacles but would like to get through most of them right side up. I really do like the Ranger so if I can get a best of both worlds build here that would be ideal. For mods I’m looking at long travel options from HCR, High Lifter, and Thumper Fab. Adding to them would be Rhino 2.0 and Fox QS3 shocks with Spring Therapy springs, though the Zbroz are on the table as well. For tires I’m leaning towards 32” Rockzillas and wheels I like the Method 401 UTV bead locks though unsure if 4x3 or 5x2 would be a better choice for this setup. Also looking at a Gilomen ecu tune and Gilomen clutch upgrade as well as a belt upgrade. Part of what complicates things on the long arm choices is that I run Polaris Prospector Pro tracks in the winter so I’ll be faced with either having custom brackets made to allow the tracks to install with the long travel arms, or I’m up against swapping the arms and axles back to factory for tracks install. Is anyone out there running tracks with any of these long travel setups? If so, what did you do to accommodate the tracks to lower arm brackets? Any words of wisdom on the long travel options would be appreciated. Of the choices I like the 10” of width gained by the HCR as well as their known quality of products but the High Lifter is more similar in shape to factory so the tracks bracket mods may be easier with that route? Thanks in advance for any advice here.

Nice looking machine there. I have seen you mention these guys before but never looked into their products til now. I am not currently in the market to lift my machine or change the stock a-arms out for anything else but this is dang cool. Early on i was considering something different but the anti-rotation bracket mounting availability for the non-factory components always had me reconsidering the change to my machine. It appears with these brackets one should be able to throw tracks on any setup and obtain a solid point for the anti-rotation hardware to mount. The one thing I noticed that is not addressed (as far as i can see) is something for the front to mount the steering limiting system when the machine is equipped with power steering like our Rangers.

I see many use the satv 6" without the brackets paired with a set of 814's mid travel shocks. Whichever you go with. I'd suggest frame stiffeners front and rear. With the extra width comes extra leverage on the a arm tabs and supports. Plus the additional weight of the larger tires.

TraxBrax are great super easy install and makes swapping back and forth super easy

For anyone running a long travel kit, can you report which kit you have, which shocks, tire size, and last the measurement to the top of the roof? Thanks!

I will have to measure again but I have the superatv 6 inch without the lift brackets using 814 shocks, 33" tires (measure 32"), and to the top of the roof is about 82" but like I said, will have to measure again to be sure.

What set up did you end up going with for suspension?

I ended up getting a Pro R 4 ultimate. Swapped to 35” Rockzillas with bead lockers and a few other goodies on it. Definitely no trouble keeping up with the group now. Had it in Moab a couple weeks ago and will be to Sand Hollow mid Nov. For the Ranger, it’s still sitting stock. I’m still planning on some upgrades to the Ranger though they aren’t as pressing now. I like the HCR suspension option, especially now that they offer replacement axles as an upgrade with the package. Never did like the idea of rebuilding the stock axles as part of the build. I don’t think going the Super ATV midtravel route is a bad choice either. I’d lean towards Shock Therapy’s Fox setup with it though instead of the Bandits.

OVERVIEW: SVC Offroad's 2021+ Ford Raptor Gen 3 Mid Travel Kit offers you long travel performance without the headaches of going full long travel.   We've taken what we liked about our dual shock LCA setup and upped the ante to provide Raptor owners a bolt on kit that allows superior damping control, additional ride height and ground clearance without sacrificing one bit of daily driver duties.

We've designed our Mid Travel Kit using the latest in C.A.D. technology to ensure the absolute best suspension geometry possible and coupled it with thousands of miles real-world testing to dial in shock valving and proper springs rates.  We're 100% confident we have developed a kit that is unparalleled in performance, at a price that is hundreds, if not thousands less than other kits on the market.  So why don't we call our kits long travel like all the other systems on the market, because non of them are long travel in our eyes.  We are all using the same pivot locations, the same steering locations and we are all roughly 3 inches wider per side over a factory Raptor.  The minute you try to squeze and extra inch with to long of a shock, your steering geometry goes out the window and bump steer becomes a massive issue.

Sleep easy, if you choose to go with SVC, you will have the same travel numbers as the rest of the kits out their without sacrificing the critical geometry of the vehicle.

NOTE: ALL GEN 3 MIDTRAVEL KITS WILL COME WITH OUR NEW BILLET UPPER CONTROL ARM AS SHOWN IN MAIN PIC

Ford's Baby Raptor Isn't Short on Off-Road Fun

W hen Ford announced that the first-generation Ranger Raptor wouldn’t be coming to the United States, off-road fans were understandably peeved. The Blue Oval has officially acknowledged the error of its ways, developing the second-generation model with the U.S. market front of mind. R&T visited the Ford Performance Racing School in Tooele Valley, Utah, for a first taste of the new baby Raptor, and to experience Ford’s upcoming Ranger Raptor Assault School program.

What You Need to Know About the 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor

The 2024 Ranger Raptor is new to the U.S. market, but this second-generation truck made its debut all the way back in November 2021. Like all 2024 Ranger models, it is based on Ford’s T6.2 platform. This is the same platform that has underpinned the Ford Bronco, but has undergone some changes for pickup duty, including wheelbase and track width adjustments. The Raptor pushes things even further, coming in at nearly three inches wider than the standard trucks. In fact, only the roof, glass, and doors are retained from the less capable machines, helping to give the Ranger a familiar desert-running appearance.

2024 Ford Ranger Raptor Engine and Power Output

The swollen bodywork isn’t just for show, as it hides some seriously potent off-road hardware. The Raptor picks up unique frame rails and upgraded suspension mounts at all four corners to cope with off-road abuse. Under the hood sits a 3.0-liter EcoBoost V-6, which the Ranger shares with the Bronco Raptor . Output for the U.S. market is listed at 405 hp and 430 lb-ft, down from 418 hp and 440 lb-ft in Bronco spec. That drop is owed to a different exhaust layout in the pickup. Mated to the engine is Ford’s 10-speed automatic transmission, which feeds power into an on-demand two-speed transfer case. Ford has set the powertrain up with revs in mind, with only a 10 percent drop in peak power at the top of the range.

Its revvy character is a somewhat rare experience in a truck, though it comes with a loss of some of that punchy low-end pickup customers may be used to. That said, the truck had no trouble idling over obstacles in low range on Ford’s rock crawling trail outside of the Ranger Assault School. Chasing redline in the more open sections also proved entertaining and more rewarding than in other trucks. Paddles mounted behind the wheel control the shifts, and respond with a satisfying amount of feedback.

2024 Ford Ranger Raptor Suspension and Tires

As with any Raptor product, the real magic is in the suspension package. Under the front fenders sits a double A-arm suspension with forged aluminum upper and lower control arms, bolstered by Fox 2.5-inch live valve shocks. Out back, Ford has ditched the leaf springs of the standard truck in favor of a trailing arm setup tied together with a Watts link, utilizing the same Fox shocks with piggyback reservoirs. A set of 17-inch wheels wrapped in 33-inch BFGoodrich all-terrain KO3 tires put that suspension to the ground, with beadlock-capable wheels on offer for the die-hards.

The package provides the truck with a minimum running ground clearance of 10.7 inches, as well as approach, departure, and breakover angles of 33 degrees, 26.4 degrees, and 24.2 degrees, respectively. Despite its heavy off-road focus, the Ranger Raptor doesn’t have an overly stiff ride on the pavement. However, my head did make contact with the door frame on more than one occasion when bounding over rocks. It’s not an entirely uncomfortable machine in a crawling scenario, but that extra stiffness for high-speed desert running is noticeable. Ford doesn’t want fans to compare this new Raptor offering to its F-150-sized sibling, but those comparisons are going to be hard to ignore. Not only does the truck look more like the F-150 than its predecessor, it also follows the truck’s Baja-bashing formula.

That said, the Ranger Raptor does have a decidedly different character from behind the wheel. Part of that comes down to the fact that this thing is so much smaller than its pseudo-trophy truck sibling. The Ranger is the only Raptor product that slots in at under 80 inches wide, and that makes a huge difference out on the trails. You can actually place this thing where you want, no longer resigned to taking whatever line is afforded by your dimensions. The Ranger Raptor is also around 600 pounds lighter than a “small tire” F-150 Raptor, which translates to much more eager direction changes at speed.

2024 Ford Ranger Raptor Drive Modes

Ford says that the truck was tuned with a bit of rally car flavor, which starts to pop out as you cycle through drive modes. Those include Normal, Tow/Haul, Sport, Slippery, Off-Road, Rock Crawl, and Baja. Off-Road and Baja modes both disable traction control and allow for a bit of rear-end wiggle, but neither fully deactivates stability control. Aggressive steering and brake inputs will still let you get the truck sideways, but it’ll shut down when trying to link a few slides in succession.

While the Ranger Raptor Assault School wasn’t keen on drivers fully disabling the nannies during instruction sessions, the procedure is listed in the owner's manual. Get everything turned off and the truck will have no problem hanging the light rear end out. The steering is well-weighted for loose surface fun and provides enough feedback to feel out the grip. It’s a slightly less serious and more playful take on what the Raptor name has come to mean since 2009.

2024 Ford Ranger Raptor Interior

The cabin is also improved over the standard Ranger, with well-bolstered sport seats lined in leather and suede. Orange highlights line the interior as with other Raptors, giving the truck a bit more of a sporting appearance. The range-topper also comes equipped with the brand’s 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster, as well as the vertically-oriented 12-inch infotainment system. The screen is backed by SYNC 4a software and supports both wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

There are a number of hard buttons that flank the center stack, including your controls for the transfer case and the drive mode selector. The cabin is spacious, albeit quite a bit less so than the full-sizers. A human does not fit behind this driver’s seating position, for instance. The rear seats are comfortable enough when you can access them, and fold flat should you want to store things back there. The view out of the front might prove challenging for shorter drivers, however, as the high hood stretches on without any real drop-off.

How the 2024 Ford Range Raptor Compares to the F-150 Raptor

The 2024 Ranger Raptor might not have the same character as its larger sibling, but in the process of differentiating itself, it has created a new space for the sub-brand. Yes, this Raptor will still jump without batting an eye (or breaking your back), but it does so in a more approachable manner. The truck isn’t nearly as difficult to navigate around the street or a trail, nor does it overwhelm you with the performance on offer. It's a well-rounded machine, and one that will certainly prove more fun on a back road than more trail-oriented offerings. That’s not exactly why people have bought trucks like this in the past, but the off-roading community is growing. This is a Raptor that is a bit more palatable for the uninitiated, and for one's wallet.

2024 Ford Ranger Raptor Pricing

My tester carried an as-tested price of $59,045, which is notably more expensive than the Colorado ZR2’s base price of $48,395. Toyota hasn’t announced pricing for the Tacoma TRD Pro Off-Road quite yet, but we suspect it will fall closer to the Ranger than the Colorado. Regardless, that is a lot less than the $80,325 base price of the 2024 F-150 Raptor, or the $91,930 Ford wants for the Bronco Raptor.

For that money, you also get free admission into the Ranger Raptor Assault School, which includes guided lessons in rock crawling, Baja runs, rock climbing, side hilling, hill descents, and off-road braking. Ford provides the trucks and lunch during the one-day course, you are just on the hook for travel and accommodations.

This high-performance Ranger might be the smallest of the Raptor models, but it's not short on open desert fun.

The Ranger Raptor is a familiar recipe, but the result is a different kind of off-roader. Here's what you need to know about the new Baby Raptor.
