Boston Logan International Airport ( BOS  IATA ) is modern, clean, easy to navigate, and the primary gateway to Boston and New England . ☏ +1-800-23-LOGAN (56426)

Understand [ edit ]

While the airport has always been pretty big, the advent of more efficient jets and the growth of the New England economy has given it a massive boost in international destinations.

Flights [ edit ]

As the major airport for the New England area, Logan provides frequent non-stop service to most major cities in the United States and almost all major European airports. Logan airport serves as a focus city for JetBlue and as a hub for Delta Air Lines , while American Airlines is another major carrier. The regional airline Cape Air and commuter airline PenAir also make Logan their base of operations. While Air Canada is in Terminal B, the gates for its flights are at the far end of the terminal with its own line for Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

Flights tend to be on time, but you never know with that wild New England weather. Try not to plan your connections too tightly. Security is typically tight, like at most major American airports, and you can expect the TSA to be thorough, efficient, and quick.

Ground transportation [ edit ]

The Sumner Tunnel, which is the primary road connection from the airport to the city, is closed on many weekends from Fall 2023 through Summer 2024. After that, it is scheduled to be fully closed again July–August 2024. Check the official closure schedule for the latest information. This affects all road vehicles, including cars, taxis, and buses such as the Silver Line. During this closure, driving time from the airport to the city (but not the other direction, which is routed through another tunnel) is significantly longer.

By public transit [ edit ]

logan airport travel

Logan is connected to the Blue Line of the MBTA Subway (or "T", in local parlance) as well as the Silver Line connector route. During the Sumner Tunnel closure, the most advisable route into the city is probably the Blue Line (which is free), after which you can either take further public transportation, walk, or take a cab or car.

The Blue Line stop at Logan (the Airport station) is actually offsite, and you need to take a Massport shuttle bus there from the airport. To catch a bus, head outside the terminal to the curb and find the correct bus waiting area. Several busses access the Blue Line stop, including the busses for the rental car center; these busses also go to all terminals. These busses are numbered; busses 22, 33, 55, and 66 access the Blue Line stop. If you are not sure if a particular bus goes to the Blue Line, just ask the driver. It is also possible to walk to the Blue Line stop from the terminal, but the way is not clearly marked and there is a large intersection, so this is not recommended at night, if you are unfamiliar with the area or if you have large luggage.

The bus will drop you at the Blue Line station. During the Sumner tunnel closures noted above, the Blue Line is free to ride, so simply walk inside and through the fare gates. At other times, you may need to purchase a ticket or CharlieCard first from the kiosks in the station. There are two directions: towards Wonderland, which takes you north towards Revere and Chelsea; and towards Bowdoin, which goes into downtown Boston (to access the train going this direction, go up the escalator and then back down again). For many hotel and tourist destinations, you will need to go towards Bowdoin, get out at Government Center and transfer to the Green Line, which has several branches that go to various locations in Boston, as well as towards Somerville and Medford on the E branch. If you are looking to go to the orange line, you can get off at the State stop. If you are looking to go to the commuter rail, then take the T from the airport to State Station, and while at State Station get on an orange line train bound of Oak Grove, and get off at North Station will you will be able to access the commuter rail. If you are looking to go on the red line then go to State Station, and take an orange line train bound for Forest Hills to Downtown Crossing.

Just outside the international Terminal E, there is an "employee" shuttle bus stop, but anyone can board the shuttle bus without being questioned.

Another option is to board the Silver Line 1 (SL1 bus) for at Logan and transfer for free to the Red line . The Silver Line is a bus that takes you straight from your terminal to South Station downtown. The Silver Line bus from the airport has four stops -- stops at Silver Line Way, World Trade Center, and Courthouse, all in the Seaport district, and then the final stop at South Station. From South Station, you can take the Red Line north (inbound, to Alewife, which will take you to downtown Boston and then Cambridge) or south (outbound, to Ashmont/Braintree, which will take you to south Boston and Quincy). Transfers are free; once you exit the bus, follow the signs to the correct platform (this will involve going up and then back down again). You can also exit South Station and then walk or take a cab from here to the Seaport district, the North End and downtown Boston. South Station is also the main terminal in Boston for Amtrak and long-distance bus service. Note that the Silver Line is rerouted during the Sumner Tunnel closure and is subject to the same traffic delays as other vehicles.

Service on the T (either Silver Line or Blue Line) stops around 12:30AM, so if your flight arrives after this you'll be taking a cab. You do not need to purchase a fare or CharlieCard ahead of time; service on both routes is free from the airport. Board Silver Line and Massport busses at any door, including the back doors.

Logan is also one of the few airports in the world that can be reached by ferry . The ferries run on weekdays and are convenient to access Winthrop, Hingham and Hull on the south shore. There is also a privately operated water taxi that goes to Long Wharf in downtown Boston. To access the ferry terminal, take Massport bus 66 from the airport; be sure sure to check schedules as the ferries don't run on weekends, are subject to weather closures, and don't run as long or as frequently as the rest of the T.

By taxi or ride app [ edit ]

Taxi costs could range from $25-50 for destinations in Downtown Boston or in Cambridge or Somerville (for example). There is no one livery for Boston taxis, but once at the taxi pickup area, airport employees will direct you to the next available taxi.

The taxi stand at the airport is quite convenient and you will get a ride right away. However, you will have to tell the driver exactly how to get to your destination, or else insist that he use his phone for navigation. Many drivers do not speak much English.

Ride-hailing services Uber and Lyft are popular, but just as expensive as official taxis, and you will have to wait to be picked up. For pickup at the airport, follow signs for "Ride App" which will on a long walk lead to Central Parking. Uber and Lyft drivers are not allowed to pick you up at the arrivals curb.

By shuttle [ edit ]

Check with your hotel about airport shuttle service, it's an amenity offered by many. Other shuttle services that visit the airport include:

  • Logan Express . Offers direct bus service from Braintree , Framingham , Woburn , and Peabody . Buses leave every hour or so and trips take around 30-45 minutes. Express buses also run to the airport from Copley square and Hynes Convention Center in the Back Bay . $7.50 one way .
  • Axis Coach , ☏ +1 617 340-3403 . Airport limos to and from Logan airport or Manchester airports. from $79 one way .

By car [ edit ]

If you're driving to Logan, routes are well marked, but the airport road system is complex. Read the signs carefully and be sure you're in the correct lane. If an unexpected off-ramp sneaks up on you, don't panic, you can just drive around the airport loop again.

Get around [ edit ]

logan airport travel

All terminals in Logan are directly connected to the central parking garage like spokes on a hub. Terminals A and B are fairly close together, and it's possible to walk from B to C to E (but not A) airside (post-security). Above-ground enclosed walkways connect all terminals, while free MassPort shuttle buses connect all airport services. Shuttle #11 loops around and quickly connects the four terminals together. Shuttle #22 and #33 connect the subway and rental car center, with terminals A&B and C&E respectively. Shuttle #55 runs during off-peak hours and connects everything, and the #66 shuttle adds the water transportation dock into the mix as well. Finally, shuttle #88 connects all terminals to the economy parking garage. If you're renting a car, take one of the shuttles and don't wait for a branded company van.

Logan has a bevy of dining options scattered throughout its terminals, and some of them are even good! Nowadays it's possible to find local farm-to-table fare and a wide selection of organic microbrews on tap. Of course this is Boston after all, so you can bet a Dunkin' will never be out of sight with 10 standalone locations, 1 express, and one bundled with a Hudson.

There is an interactive map of the terminals that show current dining and shopping options, as well as the location of baggage claim and amenities.

Sleep [ edit ].

In general, you don't have to worry much about airport noise if you stay near the airport. The orientation and position of the runways, along with local regulations requiring steep takeoffs and landings, mean you won't find jets flying low over your hotel at all hours of the night. And for added protection, hotels near the airport have extra sound protection anyway.

  • 42.36743 -71.02303 1 Hilton Boston Logan Airport , 1 Hotel Dr . Check-in: 4PM , check-out: 11AM . Hotel is connected to terminals A & E by skybridge. 24- hours shuttle service available for airport terminals (probably faster than walking of you're going to terminals B or C), as well as to the T and water taxi. ( updated Apr 2018 )

There are two other hotels within walking distance: an Embassy Suites near the rental car center and a Hyatt Regency near the ferry terminal. Their listings are in the East Boston article.

How to Travel From Logan Airport to Boston by Public Transit, Car, and Shuttle

logan airport travel

Boston Logan International Airport

Boston Logan International Airport is the largest airport in Massachusetts and New England , serving as a transportation hub for all of the neighboring states. It's not far from the city center so getting to and from the airport is a breeze with easy options. If you want the cheapest option, there's a free bus that picks up passengers directly from the terminal and brings them to downtown Boston. Taxis are even quicker and not overpriced, making them a great option for door-to-door transit. Shared van services are also available, but those are best for affordable trips outside of the city center.

What Is the Cheapest Way to Get From Logan Airport to Boston?

When it comes to the cheapest method to get from Logan Airport to downtown Boston, you can't beat free. The Silver Line of the bus system, or SL1, picks up from all terminals of the airport and brings passengers directly to South Station in central Boston. The ride is free for trips that start in Logan Airport, but if you're heading from the city center to the airport you'll need to pay the standard bus fare (which is only $2).

And just because it's free doesn't mean it's slow. The Silver Line is also one of the fastest ways to get to the city center, as the ride only takes about 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic. If you need to get to other parts of Boston—such as Harvard in Cambridge—you can transfer to the Red Line of the subway at South Station for free as well. For travel from the airport, the Silver Line is a nearly unbeatable option.

What Is the Fastest Way to Get From Logan Airport to Boston?

For those traveling with a family or lots of luggage, taking the bus to South Station may not be the most convenient option. Going by taxi takes almost the same amount of time as the bus, but with the advantage that it will take you directly to the door of your final destination. Taxis are available directly outside of the terminal while ride-sharing vehicles—such as Uber or Lyft—have a designated pick-up location that's only five minutes from the terminal on foot. Taxis start at about $25 and ride-sharing is usually a few dollars cheaper, not including a tip for your driver.

If you're renting a car, you can also drive yourself and quickly get to any destination in downtown Boston. A car is convenient to have if you'll be traveling throughout New England or are staying in the outer parts of Boston. Otherwise, parking is expensive and you can easily travel around the city by subway or on foot.

Is There a Shuttle Service to Boston?

Shuttle companies offer shared van services from Logan Airport to the surrounding area, including Flight Line and GO Boston Shuttle . The price depends on your exact destination and which company you choose but a ride to the downtown area starts at roughly $20 per seat. The journey can be relatively quick if you're the first person to be dropped off, but it could potentially drag on if you're unlucky enough to be the last person dropped off. If you're going out to farther areas of Boston then using a shared van is a good way to balance out costs with convenience, but if you're only going to downtown then it's likely cheaper and faster to use a ride-sharing service.

When Is the Best Time to Travel to Boston?

Logan Airport is less than 5 miles from the city center, so traveling between them is always relatively simple and shouldn't be more than 15 minutes by car. If you happen to be commuting during weekday rush hour in the morning or evening, it can take up to 30 minutes. If using public transit, the Silver Line bus doesn't run between 1:30 a.m. and 5:30 a.m., so be sure to make other arrangements for a late-night arrival.

For the best weather, head to Boston between June and October. The summer months are especially busy, but the city is alive with outdoor concerts, Red Sox games, and enjoying drinks on outdoor patios. Fall is also a popular time to visit and can be very crowded, but the autumn colors and the changing trees are a worthwhile experience. Winter in Boston can brutally cold, so pack lots of layers and warms clothes if visiting during this time. If you're visiting in spring, the weather is starting to warm up and the summer crowds have yet to arrive, and you may even be able to catch Patriots' Day celebrations and the famous Boston Marathon if you plan your trip right.

What Is There to Do in Boston?

Whether you're coming for the fall foliage, American history, or a warm bowl of New England clam chowder, Boston is a city that has something for everyone. As one of the first major cities in the colonial U.S., Boston is teeming with history. The Freedom Trail is a 2.5-mile trail that covers several important landmarks in the city, such as the church where Paul Revere started his famous ride. One of the most engaging experiences is the daily reenactment of the Boston Tea Party, an unforgettable way to learn about this momentous event in American history. Later you can grab a bite at Quincy Market, which has over 30 stalls specializing in freshly-caught New England seafood and other delicious bites.

Logan Airport travel tips

To reduce traffic congestion during tunnel closures, MassDOT encourages those traveling to or from Logan Airport to leave their cars at home and explore Massport's list of transportation options to and from Logan, which include: the Blue Line or Silver Line , the Logan Express , the Logan Water Taxi , or the Hingham/Hull Ferry .

Vehicles leaving Logan Airport should be aware of ongoing traffic impacts during the Sumner Tunnel closures. Periodically, Massport will close the ramp connecting the airport to the Ted Williams Tunnel and re-direct traffic to minimize the backup on the mainline of I-90. Additionally, vehicles traveling on Route 1A/I-90 westbound towards Ted Williams Tunnel may see one less through lane on I-90 westbound. During some peak traffic periods, one lane is converted to a merge lane to help vehicles leaving Logan Airport to freely join the I-90 mainline. While these changes do not eliminate congestion, they are implemented in an effort to balance traffic volumes during closures of the Sumner Tunnel and provide safer driving conditions inside the Ted Williams Tunnel.

Detour options

In coordination with local agencies and emergency services, the following detours were determined as the most efficient options to divert traffic away from the Sumner Tunnel while it is closed. When possible, it is highly encouraged to utilize public transit options.

Drivers from East Boston seeking to reach the Downtown Boston area will be rerouted to I-90/Ted Williams Tunnel via Bennington Street and onto I-93.

A Complete Guide to Boston Logan Airport

Posted on Published: 05/30/2023

Boston Logan Airport often gets a bad rap due to the traffic guests face in driving to the airport, as well as the parking fees and flight delays. But, I actually love flying through Logan International Airport. It offers lots of different airlines and flight destinations, making it easier to get flight deals.

If you are visiting Boston , Logan is also fairly convenient to get through on the Mass Pike. This improved greatly with the infamous Big Dig. Whether you are flying to Logan on your vacation, or using the airport as your home origin, here’s our complete guide to Boston Logan Airport.

Logan Airport Terminals

If you are flying through Logan, or are beginning or ending your journey there, you’ll need to know about the Logan Airport terminals. There are three domestic terminals and one international terminal. All offer different amenities and restaurants, but they are all fairly modern.

In true Massachusetts fashion, there’s no Terminal D at Boston Logan International Airport. In the past, there was a Terminal D, but its gates were moved over to Terminal E and Terminal C (which are connected). The letters for all terminals remained the same, however.

When I first started flying out of Logan, Terminal A was closed and was being renovated. It opened in 2005 as primarily a Delta terminal. Although that was 13 years ago, the terminal does still feels modern and new. WestJet also operates out of this terminal.

Terminal A has a bit of an unusual shape. Once you go through security, you’ll reach a concourse with a series of gates. However, some gates are on the other side of the terminal, and you’ll need to go down a large escalator, across on a moving sidewalk, and then back up on another escalator.

It can take up quite a bit of time to do that, and you won’t want to travel between areas. So, if you want to eat at any of the restaurants, you’ll want to make a plan based on where your gate is located. It’s best not to go back and forth.

Amenities at terminal A include a kids’ play area “Kidport”, currency exchange, and shoe shine. There are also some shops, including Tumi, Tech on the GO, and several newsstands.

Restaurants in the terminal are Alta Strada, Harpoon Tap Room, and Berkshire Farms Market. There are also some food court-style counters including Currito, Sbarro, and Friendly’s. Seating is fairly limited for these restaurants, but you can always take things to eat by your gate.

Terminal B is, in my option, the most frustrating of the terminals at Logan. If you are being dropped off at the airport, you’ll want to know exactly what gate your flight is leaving from. There are two separate areas, and you’ll want to make sure you are going to the right door. Airlines leaving from Terminal B include American Airlines, United Airlines, Southwest, Alaska Airlines, Boutique Airlines, Air Canada, and Spirit.

There’s also a small Air Canada area with its own security. It’s important to note that there are almost no amenities beyond a bathroom and a small concession booth in this area once you pass through TSA. If you are planning to eat before your flight, you’ll want to do that before you pass security.

One time, when I was flying Air Canada, I arrived nice and early for a full sit-down breakfast and was very disappointed with the limited options.

There are lots of different amenities located in this terminal otherwise. Restaurants at Logan Airport Terminal B include Temazcal, Lucca, Legal Sea Food, OTTO, and Stephanies. There are also some counter-style restaurants, including Peet’s Coffee, Dunkin Donuts, and W Pizza. For grab-and-go food, there’s a Berkshire Farms Market that also has a coffee counter and some hot food. It’s a great option for quick, healthy food.

Other amenities include a shoeshine, American and United clubs, a KidPort kids’ play area, and a currency exchange. Vineyard Vines, TUMI, Fifth and Sunset, and several newsstands are among the shops that you’ll find in the terminal.

I find myself spending most of my time in Terminal C because I typically try to fly JetBlue whenever I can. In addition to JetBlue, Terminal C is also home to TAP Portugal, Aer Lingus, and Cape Air. JetBlue definitely has the largest presence at the terminal, however.

Because of a fairly recent renovation, I find Terminal C to have the best layout and amenities. It does, however, also seem to have the longest security lines. This can vary of course, by day, but be prepared.

There are a number of restaurants in the terminal, both before and after security. You’ll find a Legal Sea Foods, Wahlburgers, Mija, Shojo Santarpios, Davios, and Boston Beer Works after security. There are also some counter service and grab-and-go locations, including Dunkin Donuts, Potbelly Sandwich Shop, Starbucks, Camden Food Company, and Starbucks.

The shopping in Terminal C is probably the best at the airport. There are several specialty shops including Natalie’s Candy Jar, New England Collections, and Travel + Leisure, along with several newsstands and gift shops.

Amenities at Logan Airport’s Terminal C include a chapel, hair salon (before security), KidPort kids’ playspace, a shoeshine, a USO lounge, and “The Lounge”. JetBlue doesn’t offer a lounge specifically for their passengers, but those with Priority Pass access can get into The Lounge (sometimes you’ll have to go on a waiting list). Day passes are also offered.

Boston at Terminal E

Terminal E is the International terminal at Logan Airport. Not every international flight departs from this terminal – so check your airline for terminal information. In addition, some domestic flights leave from Terminal E. For instance, Frontier flies out of Terminal E.

Most international flights will arrive at Terminal E unless you go through US customs at the foreign airport you depart from (I’ve done this in Toronto and Nassau Bahamas in the past).

When leaving from Terminal E, it’s important to note that they don’t offer TSA PreCheck at this terminal. Pack your bags knowing that you’ll need to remove your liquids and electronics (keeping in mind that TSA rules are always subject to change), even if you are enrolled in TSA PreCheck.

When flying on Frontier, I was able to go through security without taking off my shoes. This was because I had TSA Precheck. But keep in mind you’ll still have to remove items from your bag and will need to wait in the regular line.

If you are arriving at Terminal E, and need to go through customs, it’s a pretty streamlined process. There are separate kiosks for those with Global Entry , and Mobile Passport is also accepted. I highly recommend Mobile Passport if you don’t have Global Entry – it’s free to use.

Restaurants at Terminal E include Vino Volo, Durgin Park, Legal Sea Foods, Monica’s Mercato, and Vineyard Grille. There’s also a Starbucks, Sbarro, Burger King, and Fuel America.

I’ve found that sometimes the terminal seems empty, while other times it’s very crowded. Because of the nature of international flights, evenings are typically the busiest in Terminal E.

There are also several shops in the terminal. These include a few duty-free shops and two newsstands.

The terminal offers several different airline premium lounges as well as currency exchange. If you are visiting the airport just for your Global Entry appointment, you’ll find that office in Terminal E before security. Terminal E is attached to Terminal C and you can easily walk between the two.

The whole airport offers free WiFi that is fairly reliable. The amount of outlets/plugs available really varies by gate. Some have plenty available, while others don’t have many at all. Signage to the gates, ticketing areas, and baggage claim are pretty clear throughout the airport.

A new app, called AtYourGate, offers retail and food delivery right to your gate. I haven’t used this yet, but it’s a great option if you have family members who are looking for different food.

Logan Airport Parking

Parking at Logan International Airport is not always a great experience. It’s expensive, and sometimes the central parking garage can be full especially midweek. If you are planning on parking, it’s always a good idea to go early.

The Central Parking Garage services all of the terminals and is the most central to Terminals A and C. Parking can also be reserved in advance.

There’s also a separate parking garage for Terminal B, as well as a lot for Terminal E. While the Central Parking Garage can be used for those terminals, you’ll have these additional options.

There’s also economy parking available. This can be used if you want to save money, or if the Central Parking Garage is full. It’s a bit further away, and you’ll need to take a shuttle bus to get to and from the economy garage.

For an even better price, look into AirportParking.com , where you can reserve off-property parking. Keep in mind that these are independent lots and maybe a distance away from the actual airport. Plan accordingly.

Picking someone up from the airport? There’s a cell phone lot that you can wait in until you get the call that your friend/family member is ready to be picked up. There are also dedicated rideshare lots if you are taking Uber/Lyft. These have recently changed, so keep an eye on the signage.

Getting to and from Logan International Airport

If you don’t want to drive, there are a number of different ways that you can get to the airport. My favorite is the Logan Express – a bus that travels between several Boston area communities and Logan Airport. These stations are in Framingham, Peabody, Braintree, Woburn, and Boston’s Back Bay. Check the website for the schedules and parking information at those locations. I find Logan Express to be very convenient.

The MBTA also has airport transportation on the Blue Line and the Silver Line. The airport has a free bus that goes to the Blue Line Airport Station, which then goes to Downtown Boston.

The Silver Line SL1 is free to Boston’s South Station and stops at each terminal. From South Station, you can transfer to the Red Line.

There are also other bus services that go to and from Logan Airport from areas as far as New Hampshire. These include the Plymouth & Brockton bus line, Peter Pan, Concord Coach, as well as other buses. Check with those individually for rates and schedules.

Of course, you can also take private cars, limo services, Uber, Lyft, and taxis to the airport. There are drop off locations at all terminals in the departures area.

Logan Airport Car Rental

If you are planning to rent a car once you land in Boston, you’ll have plenty of options. There’s a relatively new Rental Car Center building, which is located a short distance away. A shuttle bus is available right to the center. You’ll find most major rental car companies at the facility.

the Hyatt airport hotel

Logan Airport Hotels

Want to stay near Boston’s Logan Airport? There are lots of hotel options in the area. The Hilton Boston Logan Airport is the most convenient. It’s connected to all of the airport terminals through a sky bridge, and a shuttle is also available. We stayed there on our honeymoon before an early morning flight, and we loved the hotel. It’s very comfortable.

There’s also the Hyatt Regency Boston Harbor . This hotel isn’t connected via sky bridge but does have a complimentary shuttle. It’s also convenient because it’s located on airline property. I haven’t had the opportunity to stay there yet, but I’d like to.

There are other chain hotels in the area that are very close to the airport. These aren’t on airport property but are pretty convenient. Some of these also offer park-and-fly services where you can stay at the hotel before your trip and park during your trip. Inquire specifically about that service when you book. Frequently Asked Questions

The answer will really depend on where you are going. I highly recommend listing to the guidance provided by your airline and would consider arriving even earlier during holidays and other busy times.

It’s both expensive and limited. You can book a reservation online which can ensure there’s a spot available for you.

No, you will walk to baggage claim once you arrive. Or, you can walk to your gate from the check-in counters if you are flying out of Logan. There is a shuttle bus that can take you from terminal to terminal, although walking is usually an option as well.

Yes, there are silver line rapid transit buses, the Blue Line on the T, and ferry service to Hingham and Long Wharf along the Boston Harbor.

Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) is the largest airport in New England, serving more than 36 million passengers each year. With 4 terminals, there are 40 airlines operating nonstop flights from BOS to destinations around the globe.

With international flights accounting for a tenth of airport operations, it’s not surprising that BOS has a good selection of lounges for both domestic and international carriers.

Passengers that are not eligible for lounge access via their cabin class, frequent flyer membership, or credit card can also purchase a day pass to several lounges to escape the hustle and bustle of the departure lounge.

At South Station, you can transfer to the commuter rail train operated by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA). The train ride from South Station to Hyannis takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours, depending on the schedule. Tickets for the train can be purchased at the station or online.

If you prefer a more convenient and direct option, you can take a taxi or a ride-sharing service like Uber or Lyft from Logan Airport to the Hyannis Ferry. This option is ideal if you have a lot of luggage or want to avoid the hassle of public transportation. The cost will depend on the distance, time of day, and any surge pricing, so it's best to check the app or ask the taxi driver for an estimated fare before starting your journey.

Private Car Service:

For a more luxurious and personalized experience, you can hire a private car service to take you from Logan Airport to the Hyannis Ferry. Step 3: Getting to South Station

Once on the SL1 Silver Line bus, sit back and enjoy the ride to South Station. The bus ride takes approximately 20-30 minutes, depending on traffic. Make sure to have your fare ready, which can be paid with cash or a CharlieCard, a reusable fare card issued by the MBTA.

  • Lucca: An Italian restaurant with a location in Boston’s North End, as well as in Rockland. The Logan location of Lucca is open from 5 a.m. until 30 minutes prior to the last departure. [Post-security, gate B15]

Business travel bouncing back at Logan International Airport, aviation official says

P assenger activity at Logan International Airport is “exceeding” forecasts this year as aviation officials witness a return of business travel and a “strong summer demand” for recreational flights, a top director at the Massachusetts Port Authority said Thursday morning.

Businesses all but ceased traveling during the dark days of the COVID-19 pandemic as the aviation industry tanked and most white-collar workers turned to virtual meetings as a way to keep up with each other while offices were closed.

But MassPort Interim CEO and Aviation Director Ed Freni said most major airlines saw “double-digit revenue growth” from corporate customers in the first quarter. Companies in finance, technology, and professional services are spending more on air travel, a trend that is expected to continue through 2024, Freni said.

Airlines are also reporting an increase in business class travel, another way to measure the demand, Freni said.

“We’ve seen many cases of this leisure phenomenon where people are traveling, extending their business travel with leisure,” he said. “It’s kind of hard to pick them out as you see them traveling through the airport. But as of late, we have seen more evidence of the business-type traveler.”

Preliminary data from MassPort estimated 3.6 million passengers traveled through Logan Airport in April, nearly 4% more than the same time last year, according to data presented Thursday. Freni cautioned that not all airlines had submitted their datasets and the number could change.

The 3.6 million who traveled through Boston beat forecasts by about 9%, an increase that was also driven “due to customers continuing to spend on air travel” even as economic growth slows, Freni said.

Nearly 34 million passengers have traveled through the airport so far this year, nearly 7% higher than data from the same time last year, Freni said.

“In their April earnings call, the major airlines voiced expectations for record levels of spring and summer travel, particularly travel to and from Europe. Airline flight schedules have been more stable with cancellation rates trending downward from over 2% during the meltdown two summers ago to 1.4% for 2024 to date,” he said.

The industry is still facing headwinds, with a shortage of airline traffic controllers creating a potential for ground stops, delays, and congested airspace, he said.

Worcester Regional Airport also had a “strong” April, mostly due to school vacation travel to destinations in Florida, Freni said. There were 21,150 passengers who made their way through the airport last month, an increase of 17% over the same time last year, Freni said.

“We continue to see strong passenger volumes and numbers in Worcester. We’re very happy about the outcome of the new service to Fort Myers, (Florida),” Freni said.

More than 188,000 passengers used Worcester Regional Airport so far this year, a 21% increase over data from the same time last year, according to a presentation delivered to the MassPort board.

Hanscom Field, a general aviation airport, saw a 10% increase in activity last month, a boost that is credited to “favorable weather for small-engine aircraft including pilot training operations,” according to Freni.
