LRT STATIONS & SCHEDULE (LRT 1 and 2)

 alt=

Metro Manila commuters are familiar with the convenience and fast speed of traveling on the LRT’s Line 1 and 2. Also called the Light Rail Transit Line, this is one of two rapid transit systems currently running in Metro Manila.

Originally called the Metrorail and the Yellow Line, the seeds of the LRT were planted in 1977 when the multinational consultancy Freeman Fox and Associates suggested constructing a street-level rail system in the metropolis. This was revised to an elevated system, and construction of the line started in 1981 – a year after the creation of the LRTA (Light Rail Transit Authority).

The first LRT segment opened in 1984, making this line the first rapid transit service in Southeast Asia. Currently, there are plans to extend the line into Cavite and form connections to the MRT.

Tips For LRT Commuters And Contact Details

If you’re tired of wasting time on traffic-choked roads, the LRT 1 or 2 lines may be the superior way to get to your destination. Keep these basic tips in mind so you won’t languish in long queues and stay safe while riding the LRT.

Here’s a video of LRT 1 and 2 from Tour from Home TV

• Avoid rush hour. Let’s face it: if you know the LRT is fast, so do busy working professionals and students. Either steel yourself to get in line early so you can avoid jostling during peak hours, or leave later.

• Secure your valuables. The last thing you want is to lose your cell phone or wallet in a crowded train. Keep your items securely in your bag and always keep that bag close to you.

• Have a Beep card. If you take the train often, it’s a good idea to get one of these reusable, reloadable cards. This will save you time from queuing for a single-use ticket.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the LRT 1, you can send them via email here: [email protected]. You may also call them at (02)53185777. For feedback and queries concerning the LRT 2, send them an email at [email protected].

LRT2 extends operating hours

last trip lrt 2

Commuters will have more time to catch the last ride of the LRT2 as the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) extended the railway’s operating hours.

In an advisory on Friday, the LRTA said that starting June 17, 2022, the operations of LRT2 will be extended “to serve more passengers.”

“From the original schedule of 8:30 p.m., the last commercial train departing from Antipolo station will be adjusted to 9:00 p.m.,” it said.

Likewise, the last commercial train departing from Recto station will be at 9:30 p.m. from the original 9:00 p.m.

“The move is line with the goal of the Department of Transportation (DOTr), under the leadership of Secretary Art Tugade, and the Light Rail Transit Authority to aid the commuting needs of the riding public by serving for longer hours as more employees are returning to onsite work and students attending face-to-face classes,” the LRTA said.

ANTIPOLO, Rizal – None other than Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte led the inauguration of the 3.79-kilometer elevated LRT-2 East Extension Project as he also rode the inaugural train on Thursday, 01 July 2021 at the new Antipolo station.

“I am pleased to grace today’s inauguration of the Light Railway Transit Line 2 East Extension Project, one of the hallmarks of the administration’s firm commitment to provide a better transportation system for all… Indeed, this project will improve the mobility and ensure transportation connectivity in the busy part of Metro Manila,” the President said in his keynote speech.

The Php 9.51-billion LRT-2 East Extension Project adds two new stations namely Marikina-Pasig and Antipolo stations to the existing line between Santolan in Pasig and Recto in Manila. Marikina-Pasig station is located in front of Robinsons Metro East near Mayor Gil Fernando Avenue in Marikina City while the Antipolo station is situated in front of SM Masinag, adjacent to the Masinag junction near Sumulong Highway in Antipolo City, Rizal.

Operations are set to commence Monday, 05 July 2021 with eight trains set to run on the line as compared to the usual five trains. Each trainset has a massive 1,628 maximum capacity. Both directions will start at 5 AM while the last trip for Westbound directions or those going to Recto will be at 8:30 PM and at 9 PM for Eastbound directions or those headed to Antipolo.

Also, as announced by the President, a free train service will be provided to passengers for the segment of eastern extension namely Antipolo, Marikina-Pasig station and Santolan station starting Monday, 05 July for two weeks until 18 July 2021.

Projected to add 80,000 more daily passengers and to cut travel time for 17.59-km route between Antipolo station to Recto station in Manila to only forty minutes as compared to up to three hours of travel for the same route using other vehicle modes such as cars, jeepneys or buses, the project has helped generate approximately 1,800 jobs.

“Looking behind this project, please allow me to give my snappy salute and sincere congratulations to the busy men and women who made this extension successful, the Department of Transportation, our Line 2 East Project Management Office, the contractors, consultants, and of course all the laborers, thank you for dedicating your heart, blood and sweat for this remarkable toil,” Light Rail Transit Authority Administrator Reynaldo Berroya uttered in his welcome remarks.

“Maraming maraming salamat po sa ating mga manggagawang Pilipino,” President Duterte also expressed his gratitude.

A ceremonial unveiling of marker was done which was led by President Duterte, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go, DOTR Secretary Arthur Tugade and LRTA Administrator Berroya. The marker reads, “Built under President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s “Build, Build, Build” program… designed to enhance mobility in the eastern part of Metro Manila and the province of Rizal, for the Filipino people and the travelling public.”

After the unveiling, Department of Transportation Secretary Tugade pointed out in his introduction of the President how the project will impact the students while noting that before the pandemic, 40% of the line’s total ridership are students as the LRT-2 line traverses the “university district”.

The event was also graced by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, Senator Go, Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar, Minister Masahiro Nakata, the Chargė D’affaires Ad Interim from the Embassy of Japan to the Philippines, Deputy House Speaker and Antipolo 1st District Representative Cong. Roberto Puno, DOTr Undersecretary for Railways Timothy John Batan, JICA Chief Representative Eigo Azukizawa, PNR General Manager Junn Magno, Rizal Governor Rebecca Ynares, Antipolo Mayor Andrea Ynares, Former Rizal Governors Casimiro Ynares Jr. and Casimiro Ynares III, Angono Mayor Jeri Mae Calderon, Taytay Mayor Ricardo Gacula II, PPA General Manager Jay Daniel Santiago, other DOTr and LRTA officials, and consultants and contractors.

“Grinding its way towards the Golden age of Infrastructure, this railway extension project is set to leave a modern purple footprint to the current administration’s “Build, Build, Build” program… Mr. President, mission accomplished,” LRTA Administrator Berroya declared.

DOTr announces 30-minute extension of LRT-2 operating hours

Are you having trouble flagging-down buses or jeepneys? It might have something to do with the country’s rocketing fuel prices . Metro Manila’s rail lines, though, might make for viable alternatives if you ever find yourself in a tight sport commuting-wise.

If you’re a regular LRT-2 user, note that the rail line’s operating hours have been extended by 30 minutes . This applies to both trips coming from the LRT-2’s Antipolo Station and Recto Station.

The last LRT-2 trip from Antipolo Station now departs at 9pm instead of 8:30pm, while the last trip from Recto Station now departs at 9:30pm instead of 9pm. In a statement, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said these changes are in line with the agency’s commitment to helping onsite workers and students with face-to-face classes get around the city.

Now, 30 minutes might not seem like much to some of you, but given the state of other modes of public transportation during the fuel crisis, any extra breathing room is welcome. Will the LRT-2’s new schedule have any impact on your daily commute ?

A year after fire damaged the Light Rail Transport (LRT)-2’s power rectifiers and rail tracks, the Santolan, Katipunan and Anonas stations are resuming operations today, Jan. 22.

In a statement released on its Facebook page, the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) announced that the Santolan station’s first commercial trip started at 5 a.m., while its last commercial trip will be at 8:30 p.m. The Recto station also had its first commercial trip at 5 a.m., with the last trip slated at 9 p.m.

Back on track: Three closed LRT-2 stations set to reopen SANTOLAN, Pasig – Train services from Santolan terminal… Posted by Light Rail Transit Authority – LRT2 on  Thursday, January 21, 2021

Despite resuming full operations, passengers might need to allot more travel time when using LRT-2, as a 30 kilometers per hour speed restriction needs to be implemented when the train approaches the Anonas station. Instead of the average 28 minutes, travel time from Santolan to Recto will now take 35 minutes.

The LRTA also reminded passengers of the safety measures to be implemented on the reopening tomorrow, which include the mandatory wearing of face masks and shields, thermal scanning, physical distancing measures and the “no talking” policy.

LRTA Administrator Reynaldo Berroya assured commuters that tests were conducted to confirm the reliability of the provisional power supply for the stations’ reopening, and that it met the parameters for safe operations.

“We will resume whole line operations with limitations and restrictions, while the full restoration and repairs of the fire-damaged Rectifier Substation (RSS) Nos. 5 and 6 signaling and telecommunications are simultaneously being undertaken,” he explained.

Berroya added that the LRTA is expediting the restoration of down trains, which will “reduce the current headway and add more passengers to our current 32,000 average daily ridership as affected by the pandemic restrictions.”
