Kovalam Lighthouse

The iconid red-and-white triped Lighthouse overlooking Kovalam’s main strip is one of the places to visit un Kovalam now to be missed! It was closed for a few years, but it is open and accepting many visitors now to its high platform where you can view beaches for miles around.

The Lighthouse has an elevator to the top for those who don’t want to walk about 6 floors around a winding staircase. The curculat platform at the top has plenty of space and always a nice breeze!

Lighthouse Beach

One of the most iconic spots in Kovalam is right at the foot of the famous Lighthouse… appropriately called ‘Lighthouse Beach.’ It’s the southernmost half of Kovalam’s main beach, with a strip of shops and restaurants along the whole length.

Kovalam Beach

Next on the shoreline, we have Kovalam Beach. Kovalam beach is a bit more secluded as there aren’t as many restaurants and shops along its length. It’s sprawled with fishing boats and will most likely have some fisherman around setting up for their next journey.

Kovalam Surf Club

That’s right, Kovalam has a SURF CLUB! Surfing may not be what you expected from India, but why not try it out? On weekends in the high season, there are free surf classes every weekend to take advantage of the epic waves rolling into the bay on Lighthouse Beach.

Edakallu Rock Garden

Between Kovalam Beach and Hawa beach is a little rocky point that juts out with a small blue house in the middle. Walk out on this point for a spledid, nearly 360-degree sunset view over the water and beaches. Valiyathura Pier is located quite close to the Tivandrum airport, north of Kovalam. What used to be a cargo pier in the 50’s has turned into a spot for local fisherman to bring in their morning haul. Walk to end of the pier for a serene experience with the Arabian Sea all around you, looking back at the village.

Next to the pier is a nice beach of the same name, and also a fish market and park to enjoy a warm afternoon. This is one of the best Kovalam places to visit for a lovely sunset.

Chowara Beach

Chowara Beach kovalam places to visit and best beaches

Chowara beach is a LONG, flat, wide, and beautiful beach that seems to stretch kilometers down the coast. It’s dotted with colorful fishing boats and cows grazing in fields just beyond the sand. Chowara has some famous Ayurveda resorts on and around it, such as Somatheeram.

Ashoka Beach

Ashoka Beach is the southern part of Samudra Beach, and it’s a lovely secluded beach known for serenity and more privacy. It’s not likely you’ll find TOO many other people on this beach, which makes it a perfect destination for a getaway. There are also many Ayurveda resorts around this area.

Artificial Offshore Coral Reef

Kovalam is home to the first artificial coral reefs in India – making it one of the coolest Kovalam places to visit. The reef was constructed to encourage marine life to thrive and you can find submerged structures and even sunken ships here.

The reef has gained a lot of popularity in recent years for scuba diving and exploring the marine life. Sign up for a dive to check it out for yourself.

Places to Visit in Kovalam Vizhinjam Area

Vizhimjam is one of the closest places to visit in Kovalam, right next door to the main area.

Vizhinjam Fishing Village

Vizhinjam Fishing Village Kovalam South India

A few beaches down from the main area, one of the most authentic places to visit in Kovalam is the Vizhinjam Fishing Village. If you arrive down on the beach in Vizhinjam, you will quickly spot dozens of locals coming in on fishing boats, gathering their catch, setting it out on tables under umbrellas to try and sell it, and regularly splashing water on the fish to keep it fresh.

It’s the kind of place where all of your senses will be engaged at once with people, fish, and tons of hustle and bustle. There are also lovely views of two distant mosques, dozens if not hundreds of colorful boats, and the sea.

Vizhinjam Marine Aquarium

If you’re looking for places to visit in Kovalam that are indoors due to rainy season or extreme heat, check out the Vizhinjam Marine Aquarium! This research center, also known as Sagarika Marine Research Aquarium, is home to dozens of interesting fish species and even turtles and sharks that you can observe.

As its name suggest this is also a center there they research the different animals to learn more about them.

Vizhinjam Beach

Vizhinjam Beach and fishing boats kovalam tourist places

Vizhijam Beach isn’t as serene anymore now that they are building a large new port right between it and the fishing village… but it’s worth checking out while in Vizhinjam. The beach is nearly completely full of colorful fishing boats, but there’s still sand free to relax.

Depending on when you arrive, you ca also probably watch large trucks hauling in the materials for the new port. Also, check out India’s version of Christ the Redeemer – a huge Jesus statue – on the way over.

Vizhinjam Rock Cut Cave Temple

Kovalam Vizhinjam Rock Cut Cave temple historic places to see

In central Vizhinjam you will find a small 2000-year-old rock cut temple with Hindu gods carved into a rock with a shiva deity in the center. I wouldn’t go as far as to call it a ‘cave,’ but this ancient temple is a quick stop in a tuktuk while driving through the area and it’s worth seeing while you’re here.

Places to Visit in Kovalam for Beautiful Backwaters

You can find beaches AND backwaters in Kovalam. Here are some other watery Kovalam tourist places that don’t have waves.

Vellayani Lake

Vellayani Lake is a large and beautiful freshwater lake just a few kilometers from Kovalam. There are plenty of scenic viewpoints of the lake scattered around it, and some bridges that offer nie views too.

Karamana River

The Karamana River flows out into the Arabian Sea just north of Kovalam after journeying from the Western Ghats – mountains a bit farther north in Kerala. It’s got a great Kerala backwater vibe, but you don’t have to travel all the way to Aleppey to enjoy it!

The most popular thing to do in the Karamana River is to go boating and enjoy the lovely scenery, surrounding villages, and coconut (and many other kinds of) groves. Or, you will likely cross a bridge on this river if driving in the area – so stop for a snap!

The Halcyon Castle was originally a private residence for a Travancore Queen, but has ben converted into a luxury hotel on a cliff overlooking the sea. It’s a popular Kovalam tourist spot because of the beautiful architecture that blends both local and colonial style, and for being able to stay the night in a heritage building!

It’s located inside the same property as the Raviz Kovalam, one of the lovely Kovalam resorts over the sea.

Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple

Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple Thiruvananthapuram Kerala India near Kovalam

Although located in Thiruvananthapuram/Tivadrum, it would be a shame to miss seeing the incredible Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple while visiting Kovalam. Definitely take an afternoon to peruse the center of Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala’s financial center, and experience the hustle and bustle of the town and many different shops and markets.

The temple only accepts hindus and no foreigners inside, but it’s still a spectacle to see with incredible carvings and figures going up its tall facade. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, and has a large gold figure of him inside that is divided in to 3 parts. The temple has a fascinating story of secret treasure buried in 6 vaults underneath – one of which is cursed and still has not been opened.

Thiruvallam Parasurama Temple

Near the end of the Karamana River, the 2000-year-old Thiruvallam Parasurama Temple is minutes from the center and another of the interesting places to visit in Kovalam. It’s dedicated to Lord Parasurama, who is believed to be the 6th reincarnation of Vishnu and to have created Kerala himself.

Many people visit this temple to pay respects to ancestors and relatives who have passed away. While visiting the river, definitely pop over to this temple to check it out.

The new Kerala Arts & Crafts Center is a massive art-focused venue that offers all kinds of workshops, events, displays, and exhibits celebrating art from the region. It also has a restaurant on-site and is a perfect place to visit in Kovalam with family/friends for a new experience.

Kovalam Places to Visit Within a Short Day Trip

Here are some places to visit around Kovalam that are worth the day trip – on a tour or with a tuktuk.

Neyyar Dam Area

Neyyar Dam Places to visit form Kovalam

The Neyyar Dam is perched atop the beautiful Neyyar River and has formed a lake below it at the foothills of the mountains. The dam is only one part of the Kovalam attractions in this area – there’s a lot to do. Many choose to enjoy a picnic overlooking the beautiful landscape, or take a boat trip on the Lake below with Neyyar Dam boating.

The area is also famous for Kerala wildlife, and you can spot tons of indigenous exotic animals in this area on a safari through the forests. If you desire some zen in the forest, visit Sivananda Yoga Ashram, which is only a few steps from the dam with lovely views and yoga/meditation programs.

Aruvikkara Dam

To visit another serene part of the Karamana River, head north of Tivandrum to see the Aruvikkara Dam. This is a perfect activity if it’s a bit too humid in Kerala and you’d rather escape to the forests in the hills.

This Dam is famous for feeding fishes, more boat trips, and nature walks. There’s a park with a perfect view of the dam, or you can sit in the Vaishnavi Auditorium for your picnic. You can also dip your toes into the slow-flowing river below the dam.

Veli Lake Tourist Village

Veli Tourist Village shell sculpture in Kovalam kerala India Tivandrum

Just north of the airport, this picturesque place is a quick drive from Kovalam to enjoy a bit of different scenery. Veli Lake Kovalam tourist area empties right out into the sea so you can have the best of both worlds.

There are plenty of parks for children to play and a popular ‘floating cafe’ and ‘floating bridge,’ and a pretty cool huge shell sculpture. It’s a great place to go on a boat ride.

Where to Stay in Kovalam

Kovalam has a huge amount of hotels, resorts, and ayurveda properties to stay at. Here are three that I have experienced myself and recommend!

Mid-Budget Stay in Kovalam: Soma Palmshore

Soma Palmshore hotel kovalam kerala india Private Beach

I stayed here when I first arrived in Kovalam for a mid-range price point. The property is only a few minutes walk to Lighthouse beach, but looks out on its own semi-private beach with total selusion. You can hear the waves from all the rooms and have morning beach walks from the property. Food and drink is great too!

Resort Stay: The Raviz Kovalam

kovalam tourist village

Now before you scroll just know that the price for a 5-star resort here hovers around $100! The Raviz is an exceptional resort chain with a beautiful and traditional clifftop property in Kovalam. The rooms overlook a fishing beach (which is accessible walking also) and the pool overlooks the ocean. Dining is also top notch.

Ayurveda Retreat in Kovalam: Somatheeram Ayurveda Village

Somatheeram Ayurveda Village pool overlooking the ocean places to stay and visit in Kovalam Kerala

Somatheeram is one of the oldest and best-known Ayurveda resorts in Kerala, and they actually have 3-4 different properties in their massive Ayurveda village in Kovalam, overlooking Samudra Beach. They have a beachside property, a forest property, and one in a traditional Kerala-style estate.

kovalam tourist village

Kovalam is famous for its beaches, among the most pristine in India. Kovalam is extremely popular among westerners due to shallow waters and low tidal waves. It is also one of the oldest tourist enclaves in India, a well known part of the tourist circuit since the 1930s. Kovalam shot into the limelight in the early 1970s with the arrival of masses of hippies. That started the transformation of a casual fishing village of Kerala into one of the most important tourist destinations in all India - the Kovalam beach.

Kovalam was brought to the public eye by the queen of Travancore, Maharani Sethu Lakshmi Bai, who decided to build a palace for herself at a rock top near the beach, as her private residence better known as Haylcon Castle. Later, in 1936, the next queen, HH Karthika Thirunal choose this palace for her honeymoon with her newly wed husband, prince GV Raja. It was prince G.V Raja who found immense tourist potentiality of the region and decided promote the region among state guests, by inviting Thomas Cook & Sons- UK to develop the region. The Maharaja of Travancore soon started hosting regular state banquets and accommodation of his European guests in Kovalam Haylcon Palace. This made the beach popular among European families living in nearby Madras and Bombay Presidencies as well as elite Travancore families to spend their holidays. Thus, the move helped to lay foundations of modern tourism industry in South India. Post independent India, the beach was popular among Indians and few tourists. It was 1970s, the hippie culture helped to revive the beach, with vast influx of tourists, spending their wild holidays here. When Kerala government thought of making tourism as a major industry, towards 1990s, Kovalam was the first tourist destination to be highlighted and promoted. Today its an intentionally renowned beach.

Kovalam has 3 major beaches in its 17 km coastline. The southernmost, known as the Lighthouse Beach is the most popular of the three. Many hotels, restaurants, lodges and shops are located here. It is frequented by outsiders who stay and enjoy Kovalam.

The Northern most crescent, (with the different names Main Beach/Leela Beach/Samudra Beach) - is crowded on weekends, is very popular with the locals, day-travelers, and passing-by tourist buses. During the week it's quiet. Hawa Beach in between is among one of the beaches in India where topless sunbathing is tolerated and well appreciated by the locals. The tourism department provides a vigilant life guard service on both Lighthouse and Hawa beach.

The Kovalam beach sand is partially black in colour due to the presence of Ilmenite and Monazite and this colouration is off-putting for some visitors and also causes the dry sand to heat up particularly fiercely, so you might want to consider bringing some footwear if you don't want to walk in the sea.

Many tourists in Kovalam are between the ages of 40 and 60 years old. Those expecting a replica of Goa will be pleasantly surprised by the more relaxed atmosphere, a bit more laid back, the food a touch softer and lighter.

Kovalam is about 16 km (20 min in a taxi) from Trivandrum. Taxis can charge around ₹400-500 to get to Kovalam. When asked where you want to go, say Hawa Beach, Leela Beach/Main Beach or Lighthouse Beach in Kovalam.

In an auto-rickshaw ₹150-170 (per head) is a fair price. Avoid going above ₹170. If in doubt ask to use the meter, but in reality they really don't work at all. Advice being if they are trying to rip you off go to leave for another rickshaw and they will often back down and offer you a fair price; if not, get in a different rickshaw. Even if India is a cheap country, the prices for gasoline are international standard, so don't expect super cheap private transportation. If you go by public bus from Trivandrum-East Fort to Kovalam Beach you only pay ₹8 for the half hour trip. If you're landing at Kochuveli train station, you can take AC bus from right outside the station to Trivandrum East Fort bus stop. And take connecting bus from there.

Buses to Trivandrum can also be caught from Kovalum Junction as well as Ambassador taxis and Autos to pretty much anywhere.

Be very careful walking around the junction, especially at night, as there are no traffic lights (what's new?) and the street lighting is very minimal. The intersection can be busy.

Map

Tourist taxis are the most convenient way to travel around attractions, especially while travelling in a group. Most airports and railway stations have tourist taxi services that would take you anywhere you would want to go.

The rate should be around ₹15 per kilometre on auto rickshaw but some drivers may try to overcharge up to ₹100 for 1 km.

A more adventurous option is to get a bike on hire. The highway is a pleasure to drive on, with the cool breeze and coconut palms lined along the way. Once on the highway, drive north for the plains, drive south for the hills. Avoid driving through Thiruvananthapuram city, it's congested. The old highway, also called MC road, is also good to drive on. The MC road can take you deep into the hills. Try out the throaty Enfield 350 cc bikes for a truly vintage experience, check your fuel levels before you leave.

Two wheelers do not have to pay the highway toll, simply ride through the side lane.

The beaches are the star attractions here. Kovalam has three crescent shaped beaches separated by rocky outcroppings. The larger of the beaches is called Lighthouse Beach , known for its 35-m-high lighthouse which towers over it atop Kurumkal hillock. Most of the foreigner’s stay on Lighthouse Beach, which is more developed. There are some vendors on the beach, but they are not too pushy. It takes less than five minutes to walk from Lighthouse Beach to the second largest beach, Hawah Beach . This beach is named thus for the topless European women who used to throng there. It was the first topless beach in India. However topless bathing is banned now.

The northern part of the beach is known as Samudra Beach . A large promontory separates this part from the southern side. Samudra Beach doesn't have tourists thronging there or hectic business. The local fishermen ply their trade on this part.

The old lighthouse, located at the southern beach is a local landmark, for being one of the oldest lighthouses of Kerala, guiding ships to the nearby Vizhnjam port. The lighthouse can be visited 15:00-17:00 daily.

Scenery from the Leela resort and the Govt guest house, Kovalam are breathtaking. The beach and rocks are most beautiful when you view from the rooms here.

  • Motor Boat Ride - In 2009 local fishermen/catamaran people added a few motor boats to their fleet, destroying the peace and serenity of the coves. They hope to make some extra money from Indian tourists, but are not aware of the impact on the environment and Western tourism.
  • Surfing - Some fine waves from time to time (0.5-2 m). You can hire surf boards and body boards on the beach from USD6 a day. During peak season they will try and charge more unreasonable amounts but just say no. Body boarding can be enjoyed by anyone. Surfing takes a bit more skill. It is wise to follow the life-guards' instructions as there are some strong currents that can suddenly whisk the unwary out to sea. The new artificial reef is creating some good surfing conditions, more on ASRltd.com website and .
  • Wooden Boat Ride - At Kovalam's Main Beach/Leela Beach you can go out on the ocean with a traditional Catamaran. These ancient boats are rowed with a bamboo paddle and manoeuvred by experienced local fishermen. There are 11 registered boats available. Rides last from about 15 to 120 minutes and cost ₹300-600 p.p. The best time for going snorkelling from the boat is in the early morning. Most romantic are the "sunset cruises". No advance booking necessary. First come - first served.

There is a wide range of shops selling good quality souvenirs. Most of the beach front shops are the general Kashmiri stores you see everywhere.

Beware of hawkers though. Once you show interest in a certain product, they will pursue you everywhere until you buy it.

Try some of the shops behind the beach front stores. You'll get a better price plus some hidden gems.

  • Little Tibet Arts (between Malabar and Coconut Grove Restaurant) is a nice little shop with fair prices. The very nice Tibetan owner seems to be the only one of the dozens of shop-owner"s that won't hassle you!

Kovalam Junction is about a 10-15 min walk up the hill from the main beach. You will pass through it on your initial arrival into Kovalam. Your main reason for coming here will be the ATMs, the post office, and Divine Supermarket. There are also a few good cheap eateries located around the area, a decent supermarket, and a few grocery stores where you can save a little money from the beach store prices.

Kovalam junction: there are four ATMs here which accept all the major cards. They are open 24 hours a day and protected by security guards.

There is an ATM just inside a hotel driveway a short distance (10-minute walk) from Hawa Beach toward Kovalam Junction. This ATM only accepts Visa cards but is often out of money as it is closest.

The ATM's are:-

  • Federal Bank (next to the Divine Supermarket) – has a daily limit of ₹20,000 and the full amount is allowed in 1 transaction.
  • ICICI ATM next to the restaurant/café almost opposite the supermarket – has a daily limit of ₹20,000 but a limit of ₹10,000 per transaction
  • Canara Bank ATM next to the Post Office – again a daily limit of ₹20,000 but only ₹5,000 per transaction.
  • Catholic Bank ATM at the Hotel Swagarth up Cardiac Hill. Daily limit is ₹20,000 but only ₹10,000 per transaction.

There are money changers on the shore line on Lighthouse Beach and these do not charge any commission. If you change T/Cs or money at your Hotel or an Thomas Cook exchange then you will be charged commission. Bank will also change money but expect to wait.

There are many restaurants along the beach front at Lighthouse Beach. The days catch is usually laid in front of them in the evening for those who like fish. Most restaurants have a leisurely approach to life and an hour between ordering and receiving your food is not uncommon. But don't get uptight, just relax and enjoy.

You can grab a top fruit salad from the fruit ladies with all the trimmings for less than US$1. But, they'll remember you and if you don't buy from them again they will take it very personally.

Head up the hill from the beach to Kovalam Junction and sample some of the many local restaurants. The speciality of the area is Chicken Fry. Fried chicken in a red masala paste with freshly cut chillies. Some places are spicier than others. For between US$2-3 you will get 2 pieces of chicken fry, vegetable sambal and some paratha (a richer version of roti). Beef fry and fish fry are sometimes available as well. Note: These establishments are very local orientated so do not expect cushy surroundings, its very much eat, pay, leave. Expect great chicken.

A near deserted beach near Kovalam and Trivandrum (Thiruvananthapuram), Kerala, India

Getty Images/Cultura Exclusive

Once a calm fishing village clustered around its crescent beaches and backed by a sea of cascading palms, Kovalam now competes with Varkala as Kerala’s most developed resort. The touristed main stretch, Lighthouse Beach, is flanked by hotels and restaurants stretching back into the hillside from the shore; just north, Hawa Beach is usually crowded with day trippers heading straight from the taxi and bus stands to the sand. Neither beach could be described as pristine, but, at under 9 miles (15km) southeast from Trivandrum, Kovalam remains a convenient and immensely popular place for fun by the sea; there are promising waves (and a surf club), as well as some charming guesthouses and a flourishing ayurveda and yoga scene.

11 Best Places to Visit in Kovalam That Are Kerala’s Iconic Tourist Magnets

God’s Own Country is coined supposedly for its uniqueness, and so are the best places to visit in Kovalam. However, this coastal town objectifies every aspect of tourism in Kerala, including leisure, watersports, religion, eco-tourism, and more!

Plan a trip to India’s First Tourist Enclave, Kovalam, to dig the convincing reasons that persuaded the Her Highness, The Queen of Travancore Maharani Sethu Lakshmi Bai, to build a royal castle on the hill near the Kovalam Beach for royal gatherings in the 1920s.

A visit to the best places at Kovalam is not restricted to the beaches only as there are temples, art galleries, and luxury Ayurvedic resorts flanked around the city.

The actual boom in  Kovalam Tourism  ignited with the advent of the 1970s when hippies on their trail to Ceylon or Sri Lanka discovered the potential of Kovalam Beach for its shallow waters and low tidal waves.

Sunbathing, catamaran rides and herbal massage on the Ayurveda beach resorts are the USP of  Hawa Beach . This beach is sandwiched between the Lighthouse and Samudra Beach crescent and is one of the best places to visit in Kovalam in the evening. Locals and tourists alike wander on the beach’s shoreline during the evening; thus, it is often known as Eve’s Beach.

If you are a fan of sunbathing, Hawa Beach is for you! On the flip side, swimming is not suggested at Hawa Beach due to strong undercurrents. Instead, you will see fishers arranging water rides for the tourists in the evening. Plus, the palm-fringed backdrop setting is the icing to the cake if you want to capture the blues of the Arabian Sea in your frame.

Finding accommodation ranging from luxury to budget, along with cafes and shopping markets around Hawa Beach, is not a concern since the shoreline of Hawa Beach got you covered with everything!

Kovalam tourism.

Famous for its resorts and ayurvedic massage centres, Kovalam is a coastal town located around 13 km from Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala. The largest beach in Kovalam is the lighthouse beach that features a 30-metre tall lighthouse . The other two adjacent beaches are Samudra beach and Hawa beach . All these three beaches are crescent-shaped shallow water and low tidal beaches. Visitors to Kovalam can indulge in a myriad of water activities , from swimming in the gentle waves to thrilling water sports like parasailing . The adrenaline-pumping experience of parasailing provides panoramic views of the coastline and the vast expanse of the Arabian Sea. Earlier a fishing village, Kovalam started attracting tourists in the 1930s and shot to fame in the hippie era of 1970s. It still sees the influx of tourists from Israel and Europe.

Kovalam is adorned with various temples that add a cultural depth to the region like  Kunnumpara Sree Murugan Temple , a serene abode dedicated to Lord Murugan. Azhimala Siva Temple , perched on a hillock, offers panoramic coastal views, providing a tranquil space for spiritual reflection. Thiruvallam Parasurama Temple , situated along the Karamana River, honors Lord Parasurama, attracting pilgrims and visitors seeking both religious rituals and serene surroundings.   For a day trip from Kovalam, Poovar is a picturesque village located just a short drive away. Visitors can take boat rides through the tranquil backwaters, bordered by coconut palms and mangrove forests. Additionally, nature enthusiasts can explore the Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary , located nearby. Home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, including elephants, tigers, and exotic bird species, the sanctuary offers guided boat tours and trekking opportunities. Ayurvedic treatments and massages are one of its most popular indulgences along with yoga, meditation as well as other cultural activities. Kovalam perhaps comes full circle as it is also a shopping destination given the rich spices, wooden statues and handicrafts that can make popular takeaways. The best time to visit Kovalam is from September to March when the weather is pleasant, and the sea is calm, allowing for a delightful beach experience. This period also coincides with various festivals and events, adding to the vibrant atmosphere of this coastal haven.

kovalam tourist village

Thirty years ago, Kovalam was a hippy idyll: a picture perfect tropical beach; a traditional fishing village providing fresh fish, fruits and toddy (coconut beer). Today this tiny beach is the focus of a multi-million dollar business, drawing thousands of tourists for a week dose of ozone, UV and a refreshing Indian Experience.

As for access, the nearest airport to Kovalam is Trivandrum International Airport. The nearest Metropolitan City is Trivandrum which is 16 KM away from Kovalam.Regular buses ply to Kovalam from the City Bus Stand at East Fort, Trivandrum. A close up of vintage Kerala is offered at the Kerala village fair, Gramam, and life in the 40s is recreated in the hamlet a little away from Kovalam Beach, in the form of a festival. It is an amazing display of rare curios, traditional houses, village artisans at work, art forms nearing extinction, and sale of exquisite handicrafts and costumes and constitutes a down-time travel to a bygone era. This mela is conducted from 14-23 January each year. The best traditional cuisine of India comprising the famed Tandoori sea food from Lakshadweep, the North-Eastern taste that tantalizingly borders on Chinese besides Keralas own exotic menu are provided at the hotels here.
