Make a splash and set off from Hawkesbury River Marina on an adventure thrill of a lifetime – a 1.5-hour adventure on your own jet ski! After your briefing at the historic Brooklyn Railroad Bridge, weave through spectacular waterways and below freeway bridges. Test your mettle as you open up the throttle covering up to 20km as you zoom past Peat Island, Milson Island, around Bar Point, and onward to the historic town of Spencer. Cancellation

• Jet Ski Safaris has a strict cancellation policy which requires a minimum of 24 hours' notice prior to departure date. For bookings between 26 December – 18 January and during the school holidays period, a minimum of 48 hours' prior notice is required
• If you are unable to attend on the due booking date, Jet Ski Safaris will do their best to reschedule your booking subject to availability. All group bookings require 7 days' notice prior to departure for cancellation

Availability :

• Not valid: 2 October, 15–31 December 2023 and 1–26 January 2024
• Please arrive at least 60 minutes before your scheduled tour time for check-in. Late arrivals and no-shows voids offer
• Rate is per jet ski. Jet ski can only be twin shared for 1.5-hour and 2.5-hour tours
• Maximum combined weight limit per ski is 200kg and there is a height restriction for passengers of 1.25m (*8+ recommended)
• Participants aged 16+ can drive solo provided an 18+ guardian or parent has signed the waiver and release form prior to safari commencing
• Participants aged 12–15 may drive a jet ski with an 18+ adult accompanying them but must have parent or guardian consent, and is at management's discretion
• Food and drinks are not included
• This experience is not recommended for those with back, neck or joint injuries. Pregnant women are also not advised to jet ski
• Please allow for up to an additional 60 minutes on top of tour time for the safety induction, written test and practice ride on the water

Terms & Conditions:

• For passenger safety, it is imperative that each participant driving the jet ski understands the safety briefing video and completes an English written test. Failure to complete or understand will result in a loss of booking and no refund. It is mandatory that all customers must read, write and understand English to be eligible to participate in the safari. Exceptions may be accepted at management's discretion
• Please note that the time and distance of jet ski tours may vary depending on numerous factors such as weather conditions, water conditions, rider ability and traffic conditions. Depending on the time of the year (peak or off-peak) and tidal movements, the routes may also change
• As per Self Hire and Drive Regulations, participants are not allowed to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs at any time while on Jet Ski Safaris Skis
• Safari routes are subject to change due to tides, traffic, weather conditions and rider abilities
• Jet Ski Safaris operates in most conditions and can provide wet weather gear if necessary
• The tour will only be cancelled if the conditions are unsafe, in this instance the vendor will offer a full refund or a re-schedule. Jet Ski Safaris watch the radar and forecasts closely on an hourly basis in order to make this decision

Our jet skis produce minimal wash, safeguarding delicate ecosystems such as mangroves and sand islands.

One of our key conservation areas is the Coombabah Lakelands Conservation Area, known for its lake and coastal swamp system. It is also part of the Moreton Bay Marine Park in which Jet Ski Safaris operates, which is listed as a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention. Moreton Bay is one of only four wetlands in Queensland that has gained this international recognition.

While areas exist where ‘blasting your way full throttle’ is appropriate, it is important to note that certain areas feature delicate ecosystems and sensitive wildlife habitats. • We hired an Ex-NDIS carer to help develop systems and processes directly related to disability access and general customer service in this specialized area.
• Re-organised our docking systems to ensure we have a large, clear and stable dock for anyone physically challenged to board their jet ski.
• Ensuring we have safe boarding facilities for physically and mentally disabled patrons.

• Tram – 25min walk to Mariner’s Cove Marina
• Drive/Uber/Taxi – Short 5-10 min stop from the heart of Surfers Paradise and Southport
• Air: We are a 40min drive north from Coolangatta airport and a 1hr drive south from Brisbane Airport.

Frequently Asked questions

No. We give you a safety briefing and you will be required to complete a written test in English. A practice ride will be given before commencing the safari. We cater for beginners to advanced riders we are confident that with our guides vast knowledge and experience we can get anyone jet skiing!

Each participant over 18 must bring your mobile phone and photo ID to complete the release and waiver on arrival.

Swimmers and board shorts are fine. We do not recommend wearing shoes or a hat on the jet ski. If you are not barefoot you are overdressed! We do recommend bringing sunglasses however we have $5 sunnies or $5 sunnies straps available to purchase.

All Jet Skis can be twin shared at no extra cost, so yes please bring a friend and share the fun!

We have a minimum height required of 125cm and we find this to be approximately 7 years old. It is not safe for persons under this height. You are welcome to test our jetski in front of the shop prior to booking. The passenger must sit on the back seat and their feet must reach the footwells to ensure a secure hold whilst riding on the jetski.

12 years old with an adult accompanying them.

16 years can drive solo, and an adult 18yr+ must sign the waiver and release before safari commences.

Please arrive 30 minutes before your scheduled tour time for check in.

All safety inductions start prompt at the scheduled times and cannot be delayed, late arrivals will result in loss of booking.

Allow an extra 45mins-1hr on top of your tour time to allow for test rides, safety briefing, island time etc. as this is not included in your jet skiing time!

(Example of timing for your tour) Your 1 hour safari schedule is at 09.00am please aim to arrive no later than 08.30am. The safety induction will start at 09.00am, you will then have a practice ride and start your tour. You should be finished by 11am. We do our very best to run to a strict schedule however timings are always approximate due to group numbers or conditions.

Unfortunately nowhere on the Gold Coast offers ‘dry hire’ due to insurance reasons. But in saying this, you set the pace, go as fast or as slow as you like! Our guides are purely there for safe navigation, because they know where all the underwater obstructions etc. are! 

2 adults with a combined weight of no more than 200kgs.

2 adults and a small child (under 10), or 1 adult and 2 small kids (under 10) can be accepted on the skis if the combined weight is no more than 200kgs. This is for passenger comfort and safety and approved at management discretion.

During peak season, we do not recommend more than 2 on a ski.

We have an area where you can leave dry clothes, shoes, hats and bags. We will provide a watertight container so you can take your phone and wallet with you on tour so you can purchase a beverage on the Island.

No food or beverages are included in the cost of the tour, these items are an optional purchase.

We highly recommend making a reservation, we operate at set times due to the safety induction requirements. If there is no suitable time available on the website please do give the team a call and we will try to assist you with this.

We do not recommend customers with back, neck or joint injuries to participate in jet skiing. Pregnant women are also not advised to jet ski. If you are unsure of health restrictions that may affect you please call our office and talk to the team.

We will only cancel a tour if the conditions are unsafe, in this instance we will offer a full refund or a re-schedule. Rest assured, we do watch the radar and forecasts closely on an hourly basis as safety is our number 1 priority.

We are the largest Jet Ski Company in the Southern Hemisphere! We have up to 35 customer skis, so we can accommodate groups of most sizes. Depending on the time of year, you may have anywhere from 3 to 30 skis on your tour! But don’t worry, we operate on a guide to customer ratio of 3-4 skis per guide, so you never have to worry about getting lost in the crowd! We’re very good at what we do!

You set the pace, if you want to ride full throttle the whole way please do! We operate with multiple guides to cater for all speed levels on the water.

We now offer AfterPay instore! We do require a 50% booking deposit to secure, and the remaining 50% can be put on AfterPay when you arrive. Should you wish to put the full amount on AfterPay, we can take the 50% deposit and refund it back to you when you’re in store.

Review: Jet Ski Safari Tours on the Gold Coast

What do you think is a fantastic way to enhance your experience on the Gold Coast? Maybe you would like to consider a Jet Ski Safari tour, but are not sure what to expect? Obviously, this is where I come in with my first-hand review and tell you everything you need to know about the experience.

As a local to South East Queensland, I’ve spent countless nights staying in Surfers Paradise, or on the Gold Coast. While the city has many options when it comes to watersports, I found these one of the best!

So, get your adrenalin pumping and read on to see if its what you would like too!

My Review of our Jet Ski Safari Tour on the Gold Coast

Key Takeaways: Overall, the Jet Ski Safari tour was an exciting morning out on the water and the breakfast tour was really worth adding to your Itinerary . Therefore, I would absolutely recommend for any novice rider and would do it again myself, given the chance.

You can choose between a Solo or Double rider, but essentially the price is based on hiring the Jet Ski (We chose one Ski with two riders). This is definitely a fun and scenic way to experience Surfers Paradise, or the Gold Coast Waterways. As well as being a suitable activity as a couple, family or a group of friends.

Before the Tour!

The staff really look after you and run it under some strict safety guidelines in regards to reckless behaviour, speeds and following a required distance away. In order for you to participate “Licence free”, there is a video at the beginning and a small questionnaire or test to pass.

As well as the rules you need to follow in regards to “Who has right of way” and always staying with the group under a “Follow the leader” scenario. The group will be guided with an instructor in the back and front, and more driving back and forth, depending on the size of the group.

NOTE-  you were given dry bags to hold your phones and wallets and there was no dress code for breakfast. (we had no shoes with us).

While on the Tour!

First up, each rider is orientated on the basic skills to drive the Jet Ski, obviously for your own safety as well as the other around you. Throughout the tour, the guides will take around in circles, jumping the waves or driving really fast in the straights.

Since this is a group tour (and Licence free), you can’t go off and do your own thing. But, at no time did we feel restricted or that we were going to slow. The city Skyline views are fantastic and worth seeing in the Gold Coast .

You’ll see everyone else enjoying their water activities, drive past other sailboats, large vessels, or even other Jet Ski tours. There is also a chance you could see some dolphins or turtles, but no luck for us this day.

Breakfast at Couran Cove (South Stradbroke Island)

The breakfast stop was a fun idea and really added some variety to the tour. The guides directed you to the small beach and lifted all the ski’s onto the sand. There was about an hour to walk around Couran Cove and order your breakfast.

It was a standard hot buffet breakfast on offer with eggs, bacon, hash browns, baked beans, tomatoes, mushrooms, etc. This cost around $20 per person , but the cheaper cold continental breakfast was on offer too . This had things like fruits, cereals, and toast, which was all paid on the Island when you show up.

After a quick bite to eat, we had a look around at the resort. If you didn’t know, Couran Cove is a Resort Style accommodation and looks like a really nice place to stay.

Normally, you would need transportation across the water to get there, and lots of activates to keep you entertained for your stay. Personally, I loved all the rooms overlooking the creek surrounding the resort and will probably stay here one day.

Is there an age Limit?

To be a driver – You need to be at least 12 years old with an adult passenger, or 16 years old to drive solo(although, 18+ guardian must sign a wavier).

To be a passenger – you ned a minimum height requirement to 120cm (about 7 years old). Generally, the child must sit on the Jet Ski and be able to put their feet on the footwells. This is a safety requirement and ensuring they are able to hold on while riding.

How long do the Tours go for?

We chose to ride with Jet Ski Safari’s, although there were several different tour company’s available, on the Gold Coast. Once you pick a company, you can find out how many different times you have to choose from. These will explore different areas around the Marina and up past South Stradbroke Island.

Specifically with our Safari tour , I had the choice between 30 minutes, 1 hour, 1.5 hours & 2.5 Hours. As I wanted a longer ride, the reception staff mentioned a Special Breakfast tour.

It departed the next morning, went for 1.5 hours, and went from Main Beach to South Stradbroke Island. The great thing was stopping halfway for breakfast at Couran Cove , before heading back to the Marina. It cost  $270AUD , or $135 per person to double on the one Ski.

Note: Although, you had to pay for the Breakfast , it was optional!

Once you choose your time and find out the cost, the staff will tell you when they are running. 

Do you need a Licence?

Essentially,  NO , you don’t need a specific licence to complete the Safari Tour (even though I did have one). They take care of that for you with a safety briefing and a short questionnaire, completed at the start of the Tour.

Once you arrive, you will be taken into a room to watch a video presentation that guides you through the rules you follow. Additionally, how to use and drive it, as well as the dangers and what “ not to do ” while riding. 

Can you choose Single or Double riding?

A big  YES , you can choose to be a single rider, or add a second as a passenger. There is one cost for the hire, and it will be the same cost for 1 rider or 2(split half for each rider). Keep in mind this does mean that only one rider can drive at a time, and you might be able to change throughout the tour.

I think changing works out better if you have a longer tour, and you might not have to option on the shorter ones. To change, all new drivers need to be orientated in, (while on the water) and checked by the Guides before pushing on. This will take up too much time on the shorter tours and may not be an option.

We chose to ride as a double, which was better for me to concentrate on the filming with the GoPro. We did change for a short period, but I enjoyed myself more as a passenger. 

How fast can you go?

Obviously, you’re limited on going too fast, but you can get up to speeds around 60 to 80 kilometres per hour. Once the guides see you in action, they tend to separate the group with the faster ones to the front and the slower ones in behind.

I guess this is why they have the extra guides to compensate. At no time did I feel like we were being held back. On the other hand, I was glad that we weren’t stuck behind someone a little cautious and too slow.

You do have to be careful going over the waves at speeds. Too fast, and a passenger rider would probably fall off if they aren’t hanging on too tight. You also need to have a driver that can control the Jet Ski, as well as manage the shifting weight, of the passenger.

At any time, you can turn the throttle and slow down through sections if needed. Not only that but through certain areas, which have a speed limit.

What clothes should you wear?

You should wear anything comfortable and preferably something that can get wet on the Jet Ski. We wore our swimmers, boardshorts and rash shirt and they give you a dry bag for your wallet, keys and phones.

My best advice – Keep it simple!

Are there Package deals?

Some Jet Ski companies will have some sort of package or combo deals to help save you some money. This includes trying out the Ultimate Jet Boat Ride , another adrenalin ride, although I think it’s a bit tame compared to the Jet Ski. Not only that, there is Parasailing, for that overall view of the Gold Coast from high up in the air.

For us, We have done Jet Boating several times, including down at the Gold Coast & Parasailing at Tangalooma . Therefore, there was no need for us to do a package deal for more.

However, if you have the time and money, just ask the staff for more details. Although if you only had one day on the Gold Coast , then I would probably stay a little closer to Surfers Paradise.

What if I don’t want a guide/guided tour?

If you want to hire a Jet Ski without a guide, then these Tours will NOT be what you looking for. There a several other company’s that can do this at the Gold Coast, but you’ll more than likely need a licence and purchase insurance.
