Inside the Four Seasons Jet

Four seasons reaches new heights with a luxurious, state-of-the-art experience in the air that heralds a new golden age of travel..

The Four Seasons Jet – a state-of-the-art Airbus A321neo-LR offering the comfort, service and exclusivity synonymous with its namesake brand – has been designed to ensure that passengers enjoy the journey as much as the destination.

Four Seasons Boeing 757 Private Jet

The Four Seasons Jet is a state-of-the-art Airbus A321neo-LR aircraft that has been reimagined for the luxury traveller, featuring completely customised interiors, innovative design and technology, and the brand’s renowned standard of service.

The luxury hospitality industry’s first fully branded jet experience, the Four Seasons Jet features the same spacious comfort, accessible technology and flawless design found at our hotels and resorts around the world. Every element of the plane’s interior is custom designed, from individually handcrafted leather flatbed seats to handmade carpet woven on traditional looms in Amsterdam to the built-in Venetian blinds covering each window.

Four Seasons Jet flat-bed seats

In the fully flat position, each seat measures 6.5 feet in length – about the same length as a king-size bed – for comfort that’s only enhanced by the Mongolian cashmere blankets, Bose noise-cancelling headphones and other luxurious amenities provided to travellers.

Global inflight Wi-Fi and on-demand entertainment keep you connected, while a bicolour lighting system creates the ideal atmosphere depending on the time of day or night. An innovative menu of signature Four Seasons cuisine – carefully planned by an international network of award-winning Four Seasons chefs and served on bone china –incorporates flavours from around the globe. Toast to your journey with your choice from a fine selection of spirits and wine, or a flute of bubbly from Dom Perignon, the jet’s exclusive Champagne provider.

Travelling with an intimate group of no more than 52 passengers (versus the standard 233 on board a commercial flight) ensures that you enjoy a bespoke journey. Whether you choose to fly around the world or immerse yourself in a specific region, every Four Seasons Private Jet Experience also comes with a dedicated team of travel experts and professionals who provide exceptional service in the air and on the ground. And with one crew member to every six to seven passengers, you’re guaranteed distinctive, personalised Four Seasons service from beginning to end.

Four Seasons Private Jet interior

Fifty-two hand-stitched seats, arranged in a special 2×2 forward-facing configuration, give guests plenty of personal space for resting or relaxing during flights. Upon boarding the jet, each traveller receives a welcome gift that includes Four Seasons slippers, a custom leather-and-fabric tote bag, and an amenity kit featuring Bulgari products.

A Global Guest Services Manager is on call before, during and after the journey to accommodate any travel request – from booking spa appointments in the Maldives and arranging tee times in Hualalai to selecting souvenirs in Chiang Mai. A Four Seasons Concierge travels aboard the Jet to help personalise your itinerary and plan individual excursions, while the concierge team at every hotel and resort from Bora Bora to Beijing provides the same round-the-clock service once you’ve arrived on solid ground.

Four Seasons Jet seats with place settings

The Four Seasons Jet is equipped with a state-of-the-art steam oven and a custom refrigeration system, so all in-flight meals, prepared on board by a Four Seasons Executive Chef, are just as delicious as any cuisine you’ll enjoy on solid ground.

Building on a legacy of innovation, the Four Seasons Private Jet Experience establishes the next frontier in luxury travel – changing the way we experience the world and setting an exciting new stage for exploration. Review: Four Seasons Private Jet

  • The Four Seasons Aircraft

Why are these trips so special?

Four Seasons Hotels And Resorts Private Jet experience is taking the Four Seasons experience to another level. Put simply, if you have the means, you can now fully immersive Four Seasons Private Experience both in the air and on the ground – you never need to leave!

The Four Seasons Aircraft Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts have an all-new Four Seasons Private Jet, evoking air travel’s bygone glamour and thoughtful, guest-centric design.

Four Seasons Hotels And Resorts are not the only hotel company that offers private jet journeys. Aman hotels and Abercrombie & Kent are just two other suppliers that offer similar private jet journeys between their hotels and the hotels they partner with. But in this extremely high-end but competitive marketplace, the new Four Seasons jet looks like it will take the top spot.

The new A321LR aircraft, part of the new Airbus NEO family, is being fully customized by Four Seasons and tailored to the continually evolving vision of its industry-first Private Jet experience. This new Four Seasons Private Jet offers 48 custom handcrafted seats, where guests can socialize more easily while seated.

It offers the widest and tallest cabin in its class, with a new spacious lounge area inviting guests to socialize. It becomes the stage for a series of Four Seasons artisans to showcase their talents and craft in interactive workshops, enriching the guest’s in-flight experience.

The new Four Seasons Jet took flight in 2021, but you can still book scheduled journeys aboard the existing jet, which continues to receive exceptional guest feedback.

Ten Four Seasons trained in-flight crew, including an Executive Chef, a Sous Chef, a Four Seasons Concierge, and a Global Guest Services Manager, are committed to making the journey truly personalized.

Even the dining experience has been taken to an entirely new level, with a quality of culinary excellence, presentation, and service rarely enjoyed in the skies. Four Seasons chefs at the hotels provide local ingredients cooked fresh in the air with an aviation-code steam oven. (Commercial jet-style convection ovens only reheat, leading to typically poor in-flight meals). Petrossian caviar and Champagne are also served at any time on the Four Seasons jet. The innovative meals using fresh ingredients will be served on the finest tableware and linens, all with impeccable Four Seasons service.

When you arrive at your seat, you will enjoy a rather nice array of goodies that Four Seasons gift to you and which include a Bvlgari toiletry kit, cashmere blanket, Bose noise-canceling headphones, a custom-made leather travel journal by Moleskin with a matching ballpoint pen.

Each guest also receives an iPad before the trip, on which you can preload music and movies. You will also enjoy free Wi-Fi for fliers to visit websites and send e-mails. You can’t stream video content on board or you will mess up the connection, but they do supply a  select library of both new and contemporary films and TV shows which are available to download.

If you are allergic to befriending staff, pilots, and the passengers next to you on the flight, you are out of luck. These planes are designed to both provide the highest level of service whilst maintaining a fun and friendly environment, and conversation is encouraged with staff, pilots, and other guests.

Itineraries are planned to avoid long hauls. On around-the-world tours, flight times range from 3.5 hours to 8 hours, with an average of 6 hours. Pilots also land in smaller civilian airports wherever possible.

The bottom line is that this plane is an ultra-luxury shuttle between Four Seasons resorts worldwide. It takes all the hassle away from travel, and prices include all accommodation, meals, drinks, ground transportation, and even custom excursions are inclusive.

Luxury Is Back: Four Seasons Launches 2023 Private A321LR Trips

Ancient explorer 2024.

The Ancient Explorer itinerary will focus on ten of the world's most famous ancient marvels found worldwide ( Four Seasons' 2023 itinerary focused on discovering the wonders of Africa ). This itinerary is scheduled for May 12 to June 4 - a period of 24 days. The Four Seasons A321LR will fly from some of the world's oldest tourist destinations (such as the pyramids of Giza) to some of the world's remotest destinations (such as Easter Island). These luxury tours don't come cheap. The tour costs $205,000 per person based on double occupancy.

Starting in Florida, the tour will visit Mexico, Easter Island (Chile), Bora Bora (French Polynesia), Australia, Thailand, Jordan, Egypt, Greece, and Spain. The tour explores some of the world's oldest history, from the 5,000-year-old Pyramids of Egypt to the Teotihuacan Pyramids of Mexico (which predate the Aztecs). While the itinerary includes many planned excursions, they can also be fully customized to guests' interests. Tour options range from exotic cooking classes to heli-flightseeing over volcanoes.

Easter Island's Mataveri International Airport is the most isolated airport in the world .

Throughout the tour, guests can expect to be pampered with the highest category deluxe rooms at each property as the included option (with the option to upgrade to a wide range of suites). All meals and beverages (including alcohol) are included while onboard the Four Seasons private jet. All lunches and dinners include beer, wines by the glass, liquors, and soft drinks.

Bewildering: Inside Four Seasons' A321LR Private Jet ($170,000 A Ticket!)

Unchartered discovery 2024.

Another Four Seasons jet experience with the Airbus A321LR is the Unchartered Discovery - and it will focus on many of the most dramatic attractions of Central America and the Southern Hemisphere. The itinerary is scheduled for November 30 to December 20 and will visit seven destinations over 21 days. The cost of joining this tour is $215,000 per person based on double occupancy (solo occupancy may cost more).

This tour focuses on the wonders of the Western Hemisphere - mostly south of the United States (plus Antarctica). On the journey, guests explore the ancient Inca Sacred Valley and the legendary ruins of Machu Picchu high in the mountains. They will explore Iguazú Falls - one of the largest waterfalls located on the border between Argentina and Brazil. They will have time to explore some of the vibrant Latin culture of Latin America in Colombia and other locations.

Perhaps the tour's highlight is the four-night cruise to the Antarctic Peninsula. Antarctica is one destination the Airbus A321LR can not go. So the passengers are flown to Punta Arenas in Chile, taking a charter flight to King George Island. From there, they board a luxury chartered private polar ship to Antarctica. This region can have dramatic weather conditions, so the itinerary is weather permitting.

8 unbelievable around-the-world private jet trips

TCS World Travel Aircraft_Facebook

Is your list of dream trips growing exponentially? What if we told you there was a way to knock them out in one fell swoop?

Enter the around-the-world private jet journey.

On these trips, guests travel in groups to the most famous destinations in the world, accompanied by a full staff that usually includes a tour manager, a private chef for the flights and a doctor, plus on-the-ground travel managers.

It's not entirely unlike like a high-end cruise or a land tour — except the transportation is by private jet, of course.

Travelers spend a few days in each destination, choosing from a list of excursions — or, in some cases, charting their own course with a private driver or local guide organized by the tour operator. At night, guests enjoy lodging at luxury hotels, save for a few red-eye flights.

For more TPG news delivered each morning to your inbox, sign up for our daily newsletter .

"For many of our clients, the most finite resource is time, and the around-the-world private jet journeys are a great way to 'check the boxes' of some of the most popular attractions without extending their stay in a destination in which they might not be as interested," said travel advisor Maggie Jones of KK Travels Worldwide , a Virtuoso member.

"Since the pandemic, a fair amount of our clients are coming to us and wanting to complete their bucket-list trips sooner rather than later, and it has been incredibly special to be able to present this type of travel as an option for them."

Perhaps unsurprisingly, these experiences do have a pretty hefty price tag, but can you put a price on having one company handle all your travel arrangements to some of the world's most legendary sites? And that's not to mention the benefit of avoiding commercial air travel. Plus, these journeys are frequently all-inclusive, so everything from meals to lodging to excursions is included with the rate.

Whether you're more interested in historic sites like Chile's Easter Island or wildlife-centric ones like Tanzania's Serengeti, there's a private jet journey out there that will speak to you.

Four Seasons Private Jet Ancient Explorer

four seasons flight tour

For the history lover, this private jet journey offered by Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts makes nine stops at some of the world's most incredible archaeological sites: Chile's Easter Island and Egypt's Great Pyramids of Giza, to name two. But the journey also includes stops in bustling metropolises like Mexico City and natural wonders like Australia's Great Barrier Reef and Jordan's Wadi Rum desert valley. Guests travel in the Four Seasons' own Boeing 757, outfitted with 52 lie-flat business-class seats and a steam oven so the jet's executive chef can prepare gourmet meals on board. The itinerary includes stays at Four Seasons properties around the world, of course. The 24-day itinerary can be booked from $190,000 per person, and there are typically one or two departures a year (the next journey kicks off on Sept. 29). (Now, if only Four Seasons had a loyalty program .)

Abercrombie & Kent Private Jet Journeys Wildlife Safari

four seasons flight tour

Going on safari is a must for animal lovers, but a private jet safari takes things to the next level. Abercrombie & Kent's Wildlife Safari checks many wildlife bucket list items, from whale sharks in the Philippines to tigers in India and gorillas in Rwanda. And, yes, the experience includes a stop in Kenya to see the Big Five (African elephants, lions, Cape buffalo, rhinos and leopards), as well as cultural experiences like learning calligraphy in Japan. For the eight-stop journey, A&K charters a Boeing 757 with all lie-flat, business-class seats, which includes an onboard chef and free Wi-Fi where available. You'll spend your nights in luxury accommodations such as The Peninsula Tokyo and One&Only Gorilla's Nest in Rwanda. This 24-day journey starts at $159,950 per person, and there's only one departure a year. The next one leaves on Oct. 6.

National Geographic Expeditions: Around the World by Private Jet

four seasons flight tour

Travel with National Geographic experts , including historians, anthropologists and photographers, on an incredible private-jet journey that visits 10 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The adventure begins in Washington, D.C., and includes stops at ancient sites like Machu Picchu in Peru, Easter Island in Chile and Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Sprinkle in a few warm-weather stops in the Pacific throughout this first leg, then you're off to the Himalayas. Up next is the Taj Mahal in India, followed by a trip across Africa and the Middle East. National Geographic's Boeing 757 has spacious leather seats for up to 75 guests, though they're not lie-flat. They do, however, recline 45 degrees, which is reasonable enough given that you'll be spending most nights in luxury hotels around the world, including La Mamounia in Marrakech, Morocco, and the Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti in Tanzania. Similar to other itineraries, this expedition spans 24 days and starts at a cool $94,995 per person. Approximately six National Geographic Expeditions are available every year, with the next one departing on Sept. 29.

TCS World Travel: World Less Traveled

four seasons flight tour

For travelers who have already seen many of the world's top highlights and want to try something a little different for a grand around-the-world trip, TCS's World Less Traveled private jet itinerary to five of the most intriguing "emerging destinations" is a must-book. The trip starts and ends in London and stops in Dakar, Senegal; Salvador, Brazil; Lomé, Togo; AlUla, Saudi Arabia; and Tunis, Tunisia. Of course, none of these destinations are new — in fact, many have been around for thousands of years — but they are often less visited by travelers. This trip is particularly suitable for art lovers, as both ancient and contemporary art plays a big role in each of the destinations. The journey is flown on an Airbus A321neo-LR with 52 lie-flat seats. Book your spot on the once-a-year, 15-day trip from $150,000 per person. The next tour leaves on Feb. 11, 2023.

Road Scholar: Discover the World by Private Plane

four seasons flight tour

Another itinerary that starts and concludes in London, Road Scholar's private jet trip hits many of the world's most iconic sites: England's Stonehenge, Jordan's Petra and India's Amber Fort in Jaipur among them. But we also applaud this itinerary's slightly more off-the-beaten-path stops, including the Jantar Mantar observatory (also in Jaipur) and the Mutrah Souq in Muscat, Oman. The airborne part of the journey takes place in a Boeing 767 with 54 lie-flat seats, while the landside journey includes stays at lauded luxury properties like The Oberoi in New Delhi and Sofitel Angkor Phokeethra Golf and Spa Resort in Siem Reap, Cambodia. One of the bonuses with this itinerary is that there's no single supplement for solo travelers, and there are often deals for business-class airfare to and from London. Spots on the 21-day expedition, which is held three times a year, start at $62,999 per person. The next trip kicks off on April 17, 2023.

Aman The Grandest Tour

four seasons flight tour

If you're a fan of the luxury hotel brand Aman, this around-the-world journey is the best way to experience some of its top properties — and the incredible destinations in which they're located. This tour begins in Japan before traveling to several destinations in Southeast Asia, followed by Bhutan and India, with a conclusion in Europe (the specific destinations change each trip). While most around-the-world private-jet journeys are not actually all that private, Aman ensures its program is: Just 18 guests can join each trip, cohosted by Remote Lands, and each group on the tour has its own driver for excursions. As such, you might not find it too surprising that Aman's aircraft isn't an all-business-class commercial jet but a true corporate one. More specifically, it flies the Airbus ACJ3189, the business counterpart to the A319, which has a lounge configuration. The Grandest Tour from Aman spans 21 days, and the next trip departs on Oct. 12. The cost per person is $152,888 ($305,776 per couple, or $196,776 per single for a solo traveler with a single supplement).

Smithsonian Journeys: Around the World by Private Jet: A Classic Journey

four seasons flight tour

Leave it to a travel company founded out of the iconic Smithsonian Institution to create a nine-stop, around-the-world private jet journey that combines the best of history, culture and nature in a single trip. You can expect to visit all the heavy hitters in the archaeological world (Machu Picchu, Easter Island, the Great Pyramids, Angkor Wat and Petra, among them) as well as natural hotspots like the Great Barrier Reef and Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania. Smithsonian Journeys utilizes two aircraft for these journeys, depending on the specific itinerary: an Airbus A321 and a Boeing 757, each of which is outfitted with 52 and 48 lie-flat seats, respectively. Smithsonian's around-the-world itineraries last for 24 days, generally take place three or four times a year and start at $109,950 per person.

Art in Voyage: 28-day Magellan Odyssey World Tour

four seasons flight tour

As you've probably ascertained, most private-jet world tours visit the same destinations. And while those stops are all magnificent, what's special about Art in Voyage's month-long journey is its somewhat alternative stops. That includes Chile's Atacama desert (one of the best places on Earth for stargazing); New Zealand for adventure activities such as helicopter rides, catamaran tours and white-water rafting; and Bordeaux, France, for a culinary immersion and a ride in a vintage Porsche, Bentley, Lamborghini or Ferrari. The 10-stop itinerary does include some of the more typical main attractions, too, such as Petra and Tanzania's Serengeti. It's really the blend of destinations that makes this itinerary stand out. While Art in Voyage hasn't yet selected an aircraft for this journey, travelers can expect to be on a private, all-business-class aircraft. Spots on the 28-day itinerary, which departs on March 10, 2024, can be reserved from $105,611 per person.

San francisco wine country four seasons hotels wants you to see both.

Outdoor dining at Four Seasons Napa Valley. It's part of the immersive city-to-country experience ... [+] offered by two Bay Area Four Seasons properties.

It always surprises me when people who love California tell me they haven’t been to Napa Valley. Wine country isn't just some dreamy Bay Area side trip; it's a quintessential piece of the culture and economy, shaping the very lifestyle and spirit of the region. Skipping Napa is like visiting San Francisco without seeing the Golden Gate Bridge or biting into a slice of sourdough; you’re not getting the total package.

An immersive new travel experience at two Four Seasons properties brings together the very best of San Francisco and Napa on an itinerary that mixes dining, imbibing, and sightseeing for a one-of-a-kind city-to-country adventure . In just a few glorious days (the length is up to you), the trip lays to rest the idea that the Bay Area is stuck in a downward coil of urban despair and economic struggle, sometimes referred to as the “doom loop. ”

Occupying the top 11 floors of a 48-floor tower in San Francisco, the Four Seasons Embarcadero has ... [+] some of the best hotel views in the Bay Area.

Since its days as a gold rush settlement and through various culture waves and tech booms and busts, San Francisco has always been a comeback town, and signs show it’s on the rebound once again. Take the area around the iconic TransAmerica building, where a series of public open spaces is set to open later this year with new restaurants, shops, lounges, activities and a sky bar.

A few blocks away, Four Seasons Hotel San Francisco at Embarcadero plays a big part of the revitalization. Occupying the top 11 floors of a 48-story landmark tower, the hotel opened in 2020 (it closed during the pandemic and reopened in June 2021) with head-spinning panoramas of the city and San Francisco Bay. The property, one of two Four Seasons hotels in San Francisco ( the other is on Market Street ), is both a refuge from urban life and a celebration of it. The views remind you of what makes San Francisco an enchanted place, and the hotel knows how to showcase the city at its finest.

Trump Trial Prosecutor Ends Closing Argument After Nearly 5 Hours Jury Instructions Set For Wednesday

Gas explosion in downtown youngstown, ohio injures at least 7, take advantage of the best memorial day laptop sales still live.

A flight of cocktails is on the menu at Four Seasons Hotel Embarcadero in San Francisco.

The hotel connects guests on outings with art photographer Adam Jacobs who shows how to “make” photos rather than just “take” them. He reveals the best vantage points to view city landmarks and the bay beyond, with tips on how to capture it all in the right light. If that’s splashy enough, Adventure Cat Sailing Adventures partners with the hotel on a 1.5-hour sunset sail aboard a catamaran from Pier 39 to the Golden Gate Bridge, as evening lights up the skyline.

It’s a ten-minute walk from the hotel to Quince , a three-star Michelin restaurant that last year opened a more “approachable” salon, featuring an abbreviated tasting menu in an area with comfortable banquette seating. Or you can stay put at the Four Seasons and enjoy a flight of cocktails at the ground-floor Italian restaurant Orafo, which makes its pasta in-house and procures its meats and produce from local farms.

With two pools, two restaurants, a spa and an on-site vineyard and winery, guests don't need to ... [+] leave Four Seasons Napa Valley for the total wine country experience.

The city-to-country program kicks off for real with a limousine transfer to Four Seasons Resort & Residences Napa Valley in Calistoga. Open since 2021, the lush and scenic retreat on 22 acres has 85 guest rooms, two pools, two restaurants (including one with a Michelin star), a bocce ball court, a fitness center, an eight-room spa and its own boutique vineyard.

Amuse bouche at the Michelin-starred restaurant Auro at Four Seasons Napa Valley

Those vines aren’t just for show. The 4.7-acre vineyard is part of an onsite, organically farmed winery, Elusa, where winemaker Jonathan Walden collaborates with legendary winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown on a carefully crafted selection of outstanding red wines. Hotel guests can enjoy an entire barrel room and tasting experience without ever leaving the property; and all in time for dinner, either at the farm-to-table restaurant Truss, or at Calistoga’s only Michelin-starred dining spot, Auro . Chef Rogelio Garcia, who worked alongside Thomas Keller at The French Laundry, runs Auro’s pleasantly relaxed kitchen with precision and playfulness. One amuse bouche dish — the chef’s take on eggnog — is served in an eggshell, laser-cut as a mini bowl and suspended on a ceramic perch shaped like a chicken leg.

Calistoga is celebrated for its geothermal hot springs and therapeutic mud baths, which are renowned for promoting healing and relaxation. At the Four Seasons spa , guests can unwind with treatments that feature mineral-rich mud, used in scrubs and massages designed to detoxify and soothe. The spa also has outdoor misting decks, steam rooms, and tranquility lounges, perfect for shedding worldly stresses. It’s hard to imagine a better spot for experiencing the unique and eclectic charms of the Bay Area, whether you prefer urban excitement, countryside tranquility or an indulgent blend of both.

(Gray News) - One-year-old Kate Wise, currently dubbed the “Four Seasons Orlando” baby, has officially made it to her highly anticipated trip.

As you can guess, it was to the Four Seasons.

In a viral TikTok video posted, Bailey Wise asked her daughters and husband, William, “I have a question for everybody. Who wants to go to the Four Seasons Orlando?”

Immediately, baby Kate raises one finger, saying, “Mee!”

So far, the video has accumulated over 60 million views, and over 7 million likes with the internet obsessed with the 1-year-old being a fully conscious baby.

One user commented, “That baby booked the trip,’'

Another user commented, “I think the baby is in charge of the family finances,”

The Four Seasons had several Disney-themed activities for Kate, according to People. The 1-year-old and her family stayed at the resort for two days. They said dhe enjoyed gold truffle pasta and an extravagant experience filled with love and laughter.

The five-star hotel shared a video of the family at the hotel on Saturday. They captioned it: “Fully conscious and utterly fabulous at Four Seasons Orlando.”

Despite being just 1 years old, Kate has been to the resort before.

“She won’t say ‘me!’ to everything,” Kate’s dad told People. “It legitimately has to be something she recognizes and wants to do. She’s been to the Four Seasons before. She does recognize certain things and she does say ‘me.’”

Lakers News: LA Head Coach Contender Now Leading Candidate for Another Job

Alex kirschenbaum | 18 hours ago.

Dec 5, 2023; Los Angeles, California, USA; Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves (15) reacts after scoring three point basket against the Phoenix Suns with forward LeBron James (23) and forward Anthony Davis (3) during the second half of the In Season Tournament quarterfinal at Crypto.com Arena. • Los Angeles Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers continue to hold off on officially hiring a new head coach. They're moving at a near-snail's pace compared to a lot of other franchises. Since L.A. hired Darvin Ham, the Phoenix Suns fired Frank Vogel and hired Mike Budenholzer (a potential Lakers fit); the Charlotte Hornets have hired ex-Boston Celtics assistant coach Charles Lee (another rumored L.A. coach); and the Cleveland Cavaliers have fired J.B. Bickerstaff.

Now, the Cavs, Lakers and Washington Wizards are the only three vacancies on the market presently. But it sure sounds like Cleveland majority owner Dan Gilbert is nearing a decision on his Bickerstaff replacement.

Jason Lloyd of The Athletic reports that Golden State Warriors assistant coach Kenny Atkinson is considered the top contender for the Cleveland job, reiterating a separate report from last week. Atkinson is another of the top prospects in the Lakers' own coaching search so far. Tom Thibodeau's New York Knicks associate head coach Johnnie Bryant is also still in the hunt for the gig.

Atkinson's only head coaching experience was with a scrappy Brooklyn Nets squad from 2016-20. He posted a 118-90 overall win-loss record across parts of four regular seasons, and did not survive his first season with the doomed Kevin Durant/Kyrie Irving iteration of the franchise in that 2019-20 season, resigning after 62 games.

Los Angeles fired former head coach Darvin Ham after just two seasons. Ham led L.A. to the Western Conference Finals in 2023, which in retrospect feels like pretty much the ceiling for this roster. It's unclear how much better even the best coach can make the Lakers in a crowded, young, sharpshooting West.

Braves’ Ronald Acuña Jr. tears ACL in left knee, to undergo season-ending surgery

PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA - MAY 26: Ronald Acuña Jr. #13 of the Atlanta Braves walks off the field with trainers after an apparent injury in the first inning during the game against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park on May 26, 2024 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. (Photo by Justin Berl/Getty Images)

An MRI of Ronald Acuña Jr. ’s left knee Sunday night revealed just about the worst news the Atlanta Braves could’ve imagined, and worse than Acuña himself had thought possible hours earlier: Complete tear of the ACL, which will require season-ending surgery.

Acuña , the 2023 National League MVP and one of the most dynamic and celebrated players in baseball, was injured in the first inning of Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates when he planted his foot in the infield dirt before a would-be retreat to second base after aborting a planned stolen-base attempt.

The knee buckled and he fell backward to the infield grass, writhing in pain.

Still, after the game Acuña, 26, said he had not felt a pop or the kind of extreme lingering pain he felt when he tore the ACL in his right knee in July 2021.

He said this felt more like the sprained left ACL he sustained in a May 2018 game as a rookie when he hyperextended the knee after stepping awkwardly as he raced across first base on an infield single.

That injury kept Acuña on the injured list for a month, and he said after Sunday’s game that he expected a similar diagnosis and IL stint this time. Manager Brian Snitker had noted after the game Acuña walked off the field, with a hopeful tone that perhaps indicated it wasn’t too severe.

But Snitker said, “Oh, yeah, absolutely concerned. But we’re not going to know anything until we get him looked at, and we can’t right now.”

Because it was Sunday and a holiday weekend, there was no immediate MRI availability in Pittsburgh, so the Braves waited until they got home. Sunday’s 8-1 win was the last game of a six-game trip for Atlanta.

Soon after the team’s charter flight landed in Atlanta, Acuña was whisked to the doctor for an MRI, which showed the damage. The Braves said surgery has not yet been scheduled.

Acuña returned from the July 2021 right-ACL surgery less than 10 months later in late April 2022, but was slowed for much of that season with recurring soreness and inflammation in the knee.

But in 2023, with his knee fully recovered and Acuña no longer feeling apprehensive about torquing the knee as he’d been in his first year back from surgery, he produced one of the most spectacular seasons in MLB history, hitting .337 with 41 homers, 106 RBIs and a majors-leading 73 stolen bases and leading the NL with 1.012 OPS.

Acuña missed part of spring training this year with inflammation in the meniscus of his right knee, coincidentally stemming from an incident on the bases between second and third, when he was caught in a rundown in a Feb. 29 split-squad game against the Minnesota Twins .

He has struggled this season, hitting .250 with four homers, 15 RBIs, 16 stolen bases and a .716 OPS, nearly 200 points below his .904 career OPS. But Acuña has said he’s felt healthy and strong all year, and lately he had begun to hit more balls harder and cut down on his strikeout rate, though it was still nearly twice his career-low rate from a year ago.

He led off Sunday’s game with a lined double off the center-field wall, Acuña’s fourth extra-base hit in 31 at-bats over the past eight games.

One out later, he was going to try to steal third base on catcher Joey Bart ’s throw back to the pitcher.

“He saw the catcher throw the ball back to the pitcher very slow and he was timing it out so he could go to third,” said Braves coach Eddie Perez, translating for Acuña in the postgame interview at Pittsburgh. “But then at that moment (Bart) threw it hard, so he had to come back. That’s when he felt it.”

As he lay on the ground, Acuña said initially he was frightened.

“Yeah, he got scared a lot because he felt the pain in the beginning, but then it’s been going away for a while,” Perez said, translating Acuña’s response.

But while the pain did not persist as it had when he tore his right ACL in 2021, the injury was indeed the same, this time to his other knee. Acuña had been in tears when he came off the field after tearing the right ACL in Miami in 2021.

When he came off the field Sunday, he looked more frustrated than anything else. Afterward, Acuña said that was accurate.

“Yeah, he said he feels very bad because everything about the knee and whatever he’s been going through,” Perez said, before quoting Acuña saying, “I just feel bad, but hopefully everything’s going to go well this time.”

Unfortunately for the Braves and their star right fielder and leadoff man, everything didn’t go well with the MRI.

It went terribly.
