2024 Formula 1 Calendar

The 2024 Formula 1 calendar was announced on July 5, 2023 . It’s set to be the longest season on record with 24 races, including the return of the Chinese Grand Prix. The first two races of the season in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia will take place on a Saturday due to Ramadan, while the second edition of the Las Vegas Grand Prix will also take place on a Saturday night. The 2024 F1 calendar features a traditional four-week break during August, as well as a second four-week break in September and October betweeen the Singapore and United States Grands Prix. 2025 Formula 1 Calendar

The 2025 Formula 1 calendar was announced on April 12, 2024 . This is much earlier than the calendar has been historically released. The early announcement can be explained by the fact that the 2025 F1 calendar contains the exact same 24 races as the 2024 calendar. The only significant changes to the running order of races are at the start of the season, when Australia becomes the first race of the year for the first time since 2019, and the Middle-Eastern races in Bahrain and Saudi move to slightly later dates in April due to the timing of Ramadan in 2025. Among other minor changes to the calendar, the Spanish and Canadian races switch places, as do the Belgian and Hungarian Grands Prix.

Formula 1 champ Lewis Hamilton on driving his F1 car in NYC: "It's a huge, huge deal."

New York City's Fifth Avenue transformed into a stage for a thrilling performance by seven-time Formula One  world champion Lewis Hamilton. The famed racing star showcased his skills by speeding down the avenue, even executing daring donuts just outside the iconic Empire State Building.

For Hamilton, this moment was his New York City come true.

"It's a huge, huge deal. I mean, I grew up watching movies and, you know, 'Trading Places' and 'Coming to America' and dreaming of one day coming to New York. And then I eventually came and visited this building with my mom when I was 17. I never looked down and thought, 'Okay, one day I'm going to drive a Formula One car up Fifth Avenue," he told "CBS Mornings" co-host Gayle King.

The eye-catching stunt was part of a promotional effort to spotlight the partnership between Hamilton's Mercedes F1 team and WhatsApp, and their growing presence in the U.S. market.

Hamilton described the experience as "very surreal" and appreciated the warm reception from American fans.

"It's great to see also how much the people here in America have embraced our sport," said Hamilton.

Despite being advised against it, Hamilton felt compelled to add a dramatic flair to his appearance.

 "I was told not to do donuts," he admitted. "I heard that the mayor had asked us not to do it. But it was very short. And if I'd just driven up, firstly, I don't have very good turning in this thing. So, you can't do, like, an easy U-turn. So I had to do donuts. But that also creates a spectacle, and I think that gets people energized."

Formula 1 is coming to Toronto this week, but it's not in the form of a race down the Lakeshore or a permanent race track set up in the city. The racing series is opening its very own multi-week exhibition in Toronto.

F1 Exhibition opens Friday at the Lighthouse Artspace near the city's waterfront, in partnership with immersive experiences production company Round Room Live. It's billed as a groundbreaking show that gives fans an inside look at the sport's greatest stories.

"It's been a very well received show," said show curator Tim Harvey. "We've had a lot of critical acclaim and very strong reviews and I think fans love the authentic approach that we've taken." 

The 20,000 square-foot space features six specially designed rooms with artifacts from 1887 to 2023. Eight Formula 1 teams contributed to the exhibition, which features 39 past winners' trophies, 97 helmets, five race suits and four F1 race cars.

Attention to detail was important for show curators, who say everything from the catchfences lining the walls to the red and white lights on the floor is intentional.

"It's been five years in the making," Harvey said. "There has been a huge amount of time and effort. We wanted to create a show that really transported you into the story of the sport." 

F1 Exhibition has already debuted in Vienna and Madrid, but Toronto was handpicked as the first North American city to play host to the experience.

"Many of the stories that exist in the exhibition touch on some of the great races that have happened in Montreal and indeed in Ontario before that," said Harvey.

Canada hosts a Formula 1 race each season in Montreal at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, the track named after the late Canadian who won the first Canadian Grand Prix held in Montreal in 1978. Before that, the races were held in alternating years at what's now known as Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, a 3.9-kilometre road course in Bowmanville, Ont., an hour east of Toronto, and the Circuit Mont-Tremblant in Quebec.

The city also hosts an IndyCar race each summer that speeds down the Lakeshore. It's that history that show producer Jonathan Linden says makes Toronto the perfect spot for F1's expansion in North America.

"Toronto is an amazing entertainment city and an amazing sports city," he said. "It's got a diverse population that are great sports fans, well informed about a variety of different sports, including F1."

"We were eager and anxious [to launch here]."

Local connections

Linden is from Toronto and has been a part of the F1 Exhibition since it was just an idea, and was also part of the European launch in both Madrid and Vienna. But he isn't the only Toronto connection to this show.

Toronto car collector William Halkiw acquired the last Lotus F1 race car driven by the late Formula 1 legend Ayrton Senna in 1987. The car is on loan to show curators and is a Toronto exclusive.

"The fact that we could bring this car and show it to F1 fans for the first time is really exciting," he said.

Senna was killed in a crash during the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix. It was one of the deadliest weekends in Formula 1 history. Another driver, Roland Ratzenberger, was killed in a practice crash the day before. 

Honouring some of its fallen heroes is a big part of the exhibition, curators say, but so is celebrating the sport's safety improvements.

One of the rooms in the exhibition is dedicated to Romain Grosjean's harrowing 2019 crash in Bahrain, which saw his car nearly split in half and engulfed in a big fireball. The crash left Grosjean with severe burns and nearly took his life.

"The story of Formula 1 is unlike other sports," said Harvey. "There's a real jeopardy to it. It is a competition that pushes its contestants to the very edge, and it has not always had a happy outcome."

"When we first opened up that stillage to reveal the remains of that crash, it was spine-tingling then and it's still pretty spine-tingling now," he said.

The show's producers say they hope to launch in other cities across North America in the future, but haven't determined any locations yet. The Toronto exhibition runs until mid-July.

The first of three Formula One races in the United States has already started up its festivities, and its racing events will begin on Friday.

It's the 2024 Miami Grand Prix , back for its third iteration after its first run in 2022. The Miami race is also the first of five Formula One contests in North America on the 2024 race calendar .

The United States Grand Prix will take place in late October, and the Las Vegas Grand Prix follows roughly one month later. The Canadian Grand Prix in June and Mexico City Grand Prix in October round out the five North American races.

Through five races so far, Red Bull – and lead drive Max Verstappen – has continued to exert dominance over the rest of the field. Verstappen has won all but one race so far, with the one exception being a forced retirement with a brake fire in March's Australian Grand Prix.

Travis Kelce Welcomed to 2024 Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix With Taylor Swift’s ‘Florida!!!’ Song

Taylor Swift provided the perfect song to welcome Travis Kelce to the 2024 Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix race on Sunday, May 5.

The singer was not with the NFL star, 34, but a video announcing Kelce’s arrival was shared by the BWT Alpine F1 Team. The social media clip — which showed the Kansas City Chiefs player showing off his Alpine cap while grabbing a bite to eat — was set to Swift’s “Florida!!!” featuring Florence and the Machine, one of the tracks from her latest album The Tortured Poets Department.

The official F1 Miami Grand Prix X account couldn’t resist making the same Swiftie reference: “Travis Kelce in 🎶Florida!!!🎶.”

Kelce wore a two-piece emerald green outfit that included shorts and short-sleeves, perfect for the warm weather at the Miami International Autodrome in Miami Gardens, Florida. It was quite a different look from the pinstripe suit and fedora he wore one day prior at the Kentucky Derby in Louisville.

Though Swift wasn’t seen at his side, Kelce had plenty of pals nearby. Swift’s close friend Ed Sheeran was in town to watch the race while Kelce’s teammate Patrick Mahomes and wife Brittany Mahomes were also on site.

News broke in October 2023 that Kelce and Patrick, 28, joined the investment group supporting the Alpine Racing Formula 1 team, with Kelce noting in a statement at the time that he was “thrilled” about the opportunity.

“Our shared passion for excellence and innovation forms the cornerstone of this partnership. It’s about being able to contribute to a sport that demands precision, teamwork and relentless pursuit of success,” Kelce added. “I am looking forward to this new chapter and can’t wait to see what we achieve together.”

Though Swift was not in attendance, she recently sparked fan theories that she made a reference to Formula 1 in her song “imgonnagetyouback,” which was released as part of her new album, The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology , in April.

According to the Subreddit that tracks Swift’s private jet , Swift’s plane landed in the Paris area on Saturday. The European leg of Swift’s Eras Tour is slated to begin in Paris on Thursday. So, Swift is likely in preparation mode for the record-breaking tour and didn’t have time to attend the Miami Grand Prix as previously rumored.

That would explain it.
