SkyMiles for Business
SkyMiles for Business is Delta’s new, free to join corporate travel rewards program for small and medium-sized enterprises. SkyMiles for Business turns your business travel budget into rewards by converting the dollars your company spends on eligible flights with Delta, Air France, KLM, Aeromexico, Virgin Atlantic or any of our codeshare partners into miles. SkyMiles for Business rewards your company with miles for dollars spent on business travel by verifiable employees for published fares.
SkyMiles for Business is designed to reward small and medium-sized companies located in the US and Canada with a Federal Tax ID or VAT number. Companies that have negotiated discount fare agreements, travel agencies, wholesalers, consolidators and other sellers of travel are not eligible to participate in this program.
There are three tiers: Member, Plus and Elite
All new companies are enrolled into Member Tier. This is an introduction to the SkyMiles for Business program where you can learn about managing business travel as well as track your company spend and employee travel.
To become a Plus member, companies must spend at least $5,000 USD in eligible flight revenue and have at least five unique employee travelers each calendar year. Plus members unlock all the benefits of the SkyMiles for Business program which include earning miles for employee travel as well as redeeming those miles for various rewards. Your employees continue to earn miles in their personal SkyMiles® account.
Elite is the highest tier in the SkyMiles for Business program. It requires a company to have $300,000 USD in eligible flight revenue in addition to the five unique employee travelers each calendar year. Companies in Elite tier receive all the benefits available to Plus members, plus a 15% mileage bonus. To maintain Elite status, the company must continue to meet the minimum spend required annually and meet the five unique employee traveler requirement.
SkyMiles is Delta's frequent flyer program in which individual travelers can earn miles for flying on Delta or eligible partner flights and for using SkyMiles partners´ products and services. SkyMiles for Business is Delta's travel rewards program in which companies can earn miles for employee business travel on Delta and eligible partner flights, which the company may redeem for travel rewards. Although program administrators are required to have a SkyMiles account, SkyMiles for Business travelers are not required to be SkyMiles Members. When traveling for company business, employees who are SkyMiles Members will still accrue their personal miles while their company also earns miles in the company account. To ensure both the individual traveler and company earn credit in their respective programs, be sure the employee´s SkyMiles number and the company´s SkyMiles for Business account number are added to the reservation at the time of ticketing.
No, your SkyBonus ID will become your company’s SkyMiles for Business ID so there is no need to update your profile.
The new program will change its currency to miles. Following opt into the new program (a requirement to participate in the new program which allows for a seamless experience at launch), existing SkyBonus accounts will carry their Plus or Elite status into the new program, with any accrued SkyBonus points being automatically converted to miles. The conversion rate for existing SkyBonus accounts will be 3-to-1 based on the value of each currency.
Yes, our popular dollars-off eCredits redemptions will continue to help reduce your business travel costs. The conversion to miles redemption cost will be adjusted at roughly a 3-to-1 ratio. For example, a $500 eCredit will require 50,000 miles compared to 150,000 SkyBonus points today.
Sample eCredit redemption chart in SkyBonus vs SkyMiles for Business:
Miles can be redeemed when booking travel to 1000+ destinations. And there are no blackout dates on any Delta flight. In addition to keeping our popular dollars-off eCredits, a new feature will allow companies to transfer business miles to individual employee accounts to enable redemptions on award travel, seat upgrades, to cover fees for checked bags and more.
Yes, the value of miles will be the same across the business and consumer programs. Miles will transfer at a 1-to-1 ratio and there is no fee associated with transfers from a SkyMiles for Business account.

Compensation and Benefits
Delta’s total rewards package.
Delta’s mission of connecting the world starts with more than 100,000 employees who deliver an unparalleled and award-winning travel experience each day. Delta fosters its workplace culture by investing in employees with industry-leading total compensation, holistic wellbeing programs and career development opportunities.
Our overarching philosophy is to provide industry-leading total rewards for industry-leading performance. It is our firm belief that when Delta achieves our financial, operational and service goals, every employee shares in the company’s success.
No one deserves to share in our success more than the 100,000 Delta people who make it happen every single day. It’s our people that set us apart, and their hard work, professionalism and commitment to excellence that makes this well-deserved profit sharing possible.” Ed Bastian Chief Executive Officer
In support of our philosophy of industry-leading total rewards for industry-leading performance, we announced a base pay increase of 5% for ground employees and flight attendants and a pool for merit 1 (corporate, commercial and management) employees for 2024. Our recently announced base pay increase – which will take effect in June 2024 – complements our 2023 increase, also 5%, and a 4% increase in 2022, further cementing Delta’s commitment to providing industry-leading compensation for our people.
Frontline (customer-facing) employees are paid highly competitive hourly rates based on fixed pay scales by role. Over the course of up to their first 12 years at Delta, our frontline employees will receive anywhere from 75% to 100% of cumulative increase in base rates in addition to our annual base pay increases as they move along the pay scale.
This progression supports our desire to have Delta people, regardless of their role, build a career with Delta and stay with us over the long term.
In addition to annual base pay increases, Delta made investments in pay across frontline workgroups in 2022 and 2023, including industry-first boarding pay for flight attendants, line and license premiums for mechanics, and lead and specialty premiums for agents taking special or leading roles in the operation.
A combination of individual performance, market competitiveness and internal equity influence base pay for merit employees. In each year, the merit increase budget has been set equal to the general increase in pay scales for our frontline employees.
In addition to a 5% base pay increase for domestic and international scale 2 employees in 2024, Delta continues to invest in our people by increasing the starting rate to at least $19 per hour for Airport Customer Service agents, Reservation and Care agents, TechOps Stores and Stock Attendants.
- Merit contributors are paid a salary based on benchmark data from their peers at Delta and across multiple industries and are evaluated on categories spanning skill and experience to innovation and leadership.
- Scale employees are paid an hourly wage while also receiving competitive pay offerings and flexible benefits driven by performance. Scale employees include pilots, flight attendants, maintenance technicians, customer service and reservation agents, baggage handlers and more.
ANNUAL PROFIT SHARING
Paid to employees from 2023 profits
(inclusive of 401(k) contributions and payroll taxes)
= 10.4% of each employee’s eligible earnings
Shared with employees since 2015 through industry-leading profit-sharing program
Our Profit Sharing program is fundamental to sharing our success with our employees and recognizes their hard work and dedication. Delta sets the bar by sharing more of the company’s profits with employees than any other airline.
Annual profit sharing payouts are calculated based on our Profit Sharing Plan formula. Each year Delta earns a profit, 10% of adjusted profits up to $2.5 billion and 20% of adjusted profits over $2.5 billion are paid out to eligible employees worldwide on February 14 (our annual Profit Sharing Day). Since 2015, Delta has shared over $8 billion in profit with employees worldwide. For the most recent payout in February 2024, we celebrated sharing $1.4 billion of our profit with employees, exceeding the $1 billion milestone last reached in 2019.
SHARED REWARDS
Another way we share our success is through our Shared Rewards program. This monthly operational incentive is tied to operational goals related to baggage handling, completion factor, on-time arrivals and domestic Net Promoter Score. Eligible employees can earn up to $1,200 annually.
Retirement and 401(K)
Our primary 401(k) plan includes an automatic company contribution equal to 3% of eligible earnings for most ground and flight attendant employees. We also match 100% of employee contributions up to 6% of eligible earnings, resulting in a total retirement savings of 15% – a target many financial advisors recommend – for employees who contribute 6%.
Shared Rewards
In Shared Rewards paid in 2023
Of ground, flight attendant and merit employees made 401(k) contributions
Received the full 6% matching contribution in 2023
COMMITMENT TO PAY EQUITY
Delta is committed to ensuring all employees are compensated equitably for comparable duties, responsibilities and skills. Frontline employees are paid an hourly rate based on length of service in their respective roles, and all employees are informed of where they stand on the pay scale. We routinely benchmark against peer companies and conduct pay equity analyses for merit employees.
Other Total Rewards Programs
Our comprehensive Total Rewards program extends beyond compensation. In addition to paid vacation, personal time and maternity and parental leave, we offer multiple medical insurance plans and holistic wellness programs to help our people thrive. Please see the Employee Wellness section for details on our best-in-class portfolio of employee wellness benefits.
Delta employees can take advantage of several travel-related perks, including unlimited standby privileges to any Delta destination; discounts on Delta-confirmed airfare, Delta Vacations and Delta Cargo; and savings on hotel reservations and car rentals. Additionally, Delta provides basic life insurance to all domestic employees (other than Officers) as well as access to other voluntary benefits at group rates.
Union Representation and Collective Bargaining
Delta is widely recognized as a great place to work – and a great airline to fly – because our unique culture is centered on taking care of our people so that they can take care of our customers. From historically providing industry leading total compensation, including sharing more of the company’s profits than any other airline, to benefits that address our employees’ physical, emotional, social and overall financial wellbeing, Delta supports our people throughout their career.
We respect all employees’ legal rights, including the right to collective bargaining. This includes the right to decide whether to be represented by a union or to remain union free. Our U.S.-based employees are covered by the Railway Labor Act (RLA), the federal law governing labor relations between air carriers and their employees. Under the RLA, employees have the right to decide whether they wish to be represented by a union or to reject union representation.
Because this is an important decision, it is necessary that Delta people have accurate information when making it, which is why, in compliance with the law, Delta shares facts about union representation and the impact it could have on how we work together.
Delta also has written policies that support our people’s right to advocate for or against union representation:
- Solicitation and advocacy activities by Delta people on Delta premises are permitted. These activities, including distribution of advocacy information, should occur in non-work and non-operation areas, such as break rooms and employee lounges. Advocates can of course conduct organizing efforts outside of Delta workspaces on personal time.
- Employees may display their support for a union or other cause on their uniform via a lapel pin of the appropriate size. Other items (such as clothing) that express support for or opposition to a union may be worn or displayed in non-work areas.
- Delta does not tolerate harassment, bullying or intimidation of any employee, whether advocating for or against a union.
Only two groups of Delta employees are represented by unions: pilots and dispatchers. Certain employees outside of the United States are also represented by unions, work councils or other local representative groups.
In 2023, Delta pilots, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, ratified a new Pilot Working Agreement that runs through December 2026.

The Delta Airlines Perks & Benefits That Attract Employees
Let’s take a quick look at the Delta Airlines employee perks and benefits that keep their staff happy.
Thomas Mirmotahari
Jun 2, 2022
In this Post
Delta Airlines is an award-winning company with an excellent reputation in the air passenger transportation sector. Some of the stand-out Delta Airlines employee perks are its effective leadership and how the company treats its employees.
In fact, Delta CEO, Ed Bastian, won the Best Executive Leadership Award at the 2021 Airline Strategy Awards . The award recognizes outstanding leadership and planning through the Covid-19 pandemic.
It’s often said that employees leave managers, not jobs. So, strong leadership through challenging periods is a major benefit of working for Delta. It can make employees’ work lives much more secure.
However, a secure job often isn’t enough to retain talented employees on the lookout for better opportunities. So, let’s take a look at the Delta Airlines employee perks and benefits that keep their staff happy.
Eight Delta Airlines Employee Perks and Benefits
1. profit-sharing.
Employees sometimes say they don’t have time to use the benefits they’re offered. So it’s best to show them the money first. If you decide to provide a profit portion to staff, make sure they understand how the system works. Otherwise, they might feel misled.
Delta Airlines lets its Red Coats (that’s their cool title for employees) in on profit-share from their first day with the company. This helps attract new talent all the time.
Before the pandemic, Delta shared at least $1 billion in profit with employees annually, which was close to one fifth of its income. In 2020, this hit a staggering $1.6 billion paid out to its 90,000 employees .
Sadly, after the pandemic hit, the airline suffered a $12.4 billion loss, and profit-sharing was put on hold. But the airline is weathering the storm much better than many other carriers worldwide. So, the future looks promising for it to recover and resume profit-sharing at some point.

2. Attractive Retirement Savings Plan
Today, fewer Americans decide to have children than compared to the past. As such, employees are motivated to ensure that they can care for themselves after retirement.
Delta offers its employees a 401(k) retirement plan to ease their financial situation when they can no longer work. This plan includes 401(k) savings with tax benefits. When an employee joins the company, Delta automatically places them on the plan, diverting a percentage of their paycheck to a retirement investment.
Employees can also choose how much they want to put away for retirement and the type of retirement plan they prefer. This helps them feel more in control of their future.
The employer adds an automatic contribution of 3% of the employee’s salary. They also provide a 100% match for the first 6% contributed by the employee.

3. Training and Professional Development
Delta is highly rated for training courses and mentor programs to assist both new and long-time staff. Over the years, they have continued to improve the quality of the training provided significantly.
Pilots can attend training at Delta Air Lines Aircrew Training Center in Georgia. There are about nine other training facilities around the US. Trainee flight attendants take an 8-week course and get paid while they are learning.
Customer service agents and supervisors attend workshops to help them learn how to deal with difficult, unexpected circumstances. An ongoing interactive training series is also held for all employees on diversity, equity, and inclusion .
They also send managers on a development program at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Plus, their pilots can attend a special career program at Western Michigan University, among other programs, especially for Delta staff.
4. Competitive Life Insurance
Delta Airlines’ perks include basic and optional life cover for full-time employees and dependents. This includes accidental death and injury insurance.
The insurance pays out a lump sum to beneficiaries to a maximum of $50,000 on the basic plan. The maximum is $500,000 if employees take the optional cover. The final amount paid out depends on the individual case.
5. Comprehensive Medical Insurance, Including Dental and Optometry
Delta’s benefits include various healthcare insurance options for employees to choose from. The options depend on where they live.
The airline lets employees decide between different dental coverage options. This gives them more power of choice to meet their needs.
The company partnered with a popular service provider to help meet their staff’s eye-care needs. Dental and vision cover lifts another weight off employees’ shoulders and reduces what they have to pay out of pocket when they need essential healthcare.

6. Paid Leave Benefits
The longer an employee stays with Delta, the more leave they are entitled to. This includes vacation leave and time-off of up to 5 weeks a year. Sick leave comes standard.
On top of that, the airline adds bereavement, family responsibility, maternity, and paternity leave. Expecting and new moms can take six weeks paid leave plus 16 weeks unpaid leave, which is four weeks more than average.
Another employee benefit is military leave. This applies whether employees are on active or inactive duty in the US forces and is a key consideration for prospective employees in the airline industry. These individuals often have a military background, such as security guards and pilots.
Overall, it’s a fine example of how companies can appeal to potential employees’ career and personal goals.

7. Free and Discounted Flights
Delta Airlines employee perks include occasional free and discounted tickets. Family members can also get discounted tickets.
Travel benefits encourage employees to take vacations away from home so that they return to work feeling more refreshed and motivated .
Flight discounts are also available for Delta’s Ready Reserves. The reserves are part-time and temporary employees on customer service and airport duty, who help the company keep up with periods of erratic demand.
8. Gym Membership
The Delta workforce has been rated as one the most healthy group of employees in recent years. This is partly owing to free and subsidized memberships at Delta Air Lines Corporate Fitness Centers.

Maybe you’ve already heard about all the benefits of The Business Platinum Card ® from American Express . Airport lounge access. Annual credits. Elite status. It’s a pretty impressive list (enrollment required).
But there’s one perk that I find makes it worth keeping the card year after year, even with its extremely high $695 annual fee ( rates & fees ).
Which benefit is it? The 35% Pay With Points rebate.
With all the features of this card, why is a simple rebate so valuable to me? It means I’m guaranteed to get good value for my points , no matter how expensive flights are or how hard it is to find award availability.
And since Delta is my primary airline, I can usually pay fewer points for flights with the rebate than I would if I transferred those same points from the Amex Business Platinum card to Delta.
How do I make this work? Let me show you the steps.
First, let’s talk basics. When you redeem Membership Rewards points to book an eligible fare with the Amex Business Platinum card rebate (which Amex calls a “ 35% Airline Bonus “), you’ll get back 35% of your points, up to 1 million points each year.
An “eligible fare” counts as a booking on any airline in first or business class or on one airline of your choice in any class . That means before you book an economy ticket with points, you’ll need to pick a designated airline.
You can only change your selected airline once each year in January (or when you first get the card), and the airline you choose has to be the same one you use for the Amex Business Platinum card’s annual airline fee credit (enrollment requirement). So, choose wisely.
Once you have the Amex Business Platinum card, you can call the number on the back of your card and speak to an agent to select an airline. Or you can log in to the American Express website and click on the “Rewards & Benefits” tab on the navigation bar at the top of the screen. From there, click on “Benefits” and look for the panel called “35% Airline Bonus.”
You’ll be able to choose from a list of 9 domestic airlines — Alaska , American , Delta , Frontier , Hawaiian, JetBlue , Spirit , Southwest , and United .
Obviously, you should pick whichever airline you’re likely to fly the most . For me, that’s Delta, even though the airline is already an Amex transfer partner . (More on that in a moment.)
The American Express ® Business Gold Card no longer offers a Pay With Points benefit as part of a recent card refresh — which makes the Amex Business Platinum card that much more compelling.
Once you’ve selected your airline (which you only need to do the first time), you’ll want to head over to AmexTravel.com . You can also get there by clicking on the “Menu” button at the top left of the American Express website and then choosing “Travel.”
You can search for any flight on any airline at AmexTravel.com and book it with either cash or points. But, you’ll only get the 35% rebate if the following conditions are met:
- Flights must be booked using points
- Flights must be booked with your selected airline — or any airline in first or business class
So when I’m booking economy, I like to filter the results to show only my airline.
It’s important to note that the 35% rebate won’t be reflected in the search prices . Like most rebates, you’ll pay the full price upfront, then get the points back later. So, at this stage, for most of the prices, you’ll see the value of your points at 1 cent apiece based on the cash fares.
However, depending on the route and airline, you may also see several itineraries labeled as “Insider Fares.” These are options that are cheaper if you pay for the entire flight with points.
Here’s an example of an Insider Fare. This Delta flight departing New York-JFK at 2:30 p.m. for Los Angeles would normally be roughly 45,100 points. But as an Insider Fare, it’s been reduced to 40,750 points.
The great news is that if you book with your selected airline and the Amex Business Platinum card, you’ll get the 35% rebate—on top of any Insider Fares pricing. I love when this happens because it often means a real steal of a deal.
When I’ve found a flight I want, before I make the purchase, I take a moment to check if booking with the 35% rebate is really the best deal available.
If I’ve had my AmexTravel.com filters set to only show flights on my selected airline, I’ll turn them back off for a moment just to check if there isn’t some fantastic deal on another carrier that would cost less even without the rebate.
Then, I also check what the airline is charging for cash fares of the same flight . You can do this by going to the airline’s website and doing the same search.
But I prefer to use Points Path , which is a search tool I created that runs on top of Google Flights. By firing up Points Path, I can perform the same search across all airlines with both cash and points. In this case, I can see that the same 2:30 p.m. Delta flight I want costs 43,000 Delta SkyMiles.
I could transfer 43,000 Amex points to Delta to book the flight, but that would be more than the 40,750 points it costs as an Insider Fare on Amex Travel. And that’s before deducting the 35% rebate!
Delta flights aren’t always cheaper with points by booking on AmexTravel.com with the 35% rebate instead of transferring them to Delta. But it’s the case much more often than not.
We value Delta SkyMiles around 1.2 cents apiece, but they can be worth a bit more if you have a Delta credit card , thanks to a 15% discount on award flights .
But with the 35% rebate on the Amex Business Platinum card, you’re effectively getting 1.54 cents per point. At that rate, it’s pretty easy to get more value for your points by using the rebate rather than transferring your Amex points to Delta.
Plus, when you transfer Amex points to Delta, you have to pay an excise tax offset fee of $0.0006 per point (with a maximum fee of $99). But when you book through AmexTravel.com, there’s no offset fee, and you’ll even earn Delta SkyMiles on the flight because it’s considered a “paid” ticket, even though you’re paying with points.
Still, you’ll always want to check to be sure you’re getting the best deal. Sometimes you’ll find a better option using another airline’s points or miles to book the same flight, or a different flight entirely.
AmexTravel.com doesn’t show basic economy fares, which come with many restrictions. However, I never book Delta basic economy flights because I want the flexibility to change my ticket without paying a fee. You may feel differently, but just be sure you’re comparing apples to apples across websites and searches.
Once you’ve picked your flight, you’ll now start the checkout process. When you get to the payment screen, there are 2 important selections to make.
First, you want to pay with points for at least some of the cost . Choose either the “Use Only Points” tab or the “Use Points + Card” tab, and enter the number of points you want to use. If you mix cash and points , you’ll get the 35% rebate on the points part but not the cash part.
And secondly, make sure to select your Amex Business Platinum card as your payment method. Your card will be charged for the entire cash amount, and then you’ll see an automatic credit for the portion that you paid with points.
Now, go ahead and book your ticket — but you still won’t see the 35% rebate yet! Believe it or not, you won’t get a confirmation of the rebate for several weeks .
Rest assured, eventually, Amex will email to let you know that your ticket qualified and that the extra points are back in your account.
This brings up one more important point: You must have enough points to cover the entire cost of the trip upfront without the rebate . Just like any other rebate, you won’t get the discount when you book. But have faith that you’ll get the extra points back eventually.
With the Amex Business Platinum card’s 35% Pay With Points rebate, you may not always find the absolute best deal. Especially for international itineraries in premium cabins, you may be better off transferring your points rather than redeeming them based on the cash price.
But I use the 35% rebate all the time, especially on domestic Delta flights. It ensures that I can buy any flight with my points at any time, and usually at a better price than if I used Delta SkyMiles . It’s also one of the best redemption rates you’ll find when booking travel through a credit card website.

Fallout continues, following Delta council uprising against mayor
Delta, b.c, mayor george harvie reverses course on travel as metro vancouver chair following scrutiny.
Social Sharing
Delta, B.C., Mayor and Metro Vancouver board chair George Harvie says he won't travel to Amsterdam, where he was to learn about urban drainage and flooding mitigation approaches meant to benefit the region, because of recent attention over his role on Delta council and travel expenses.
The trip, set for mid-June, was to come in the final weeks as his role as chair of the regional government. Metro Vancouver includes 21 municipalities and governs things like water, waste and emergency management.
"I have come to the difficult decision to forego this learning opportunity. I do not wish to be a distraction to the ongoing work at Metro Vancouver," he said in a statement Tuesday.
The controversy around Harvie and his travel as Metro Vancouver chair illustrates an ongoing fracture between the mayor and the six members of Delta city council.
In 2022, Harvey ran for a second term as mayor under a political slate called Achieving for Delta . He got 75 per cent of the vote and his entire slate was also elected.
'Ensure proper governance'
But discord among the group became public in early May, when his council passed seven motions aimed at limiting his influence.
It also removed him as a Delta director to Metro Vancouver, which ultimately means an end to his role as the Metro Vancouver board chair on July 1.
"Over the past months, it has become increasingly apparent that these changes were needed to uphold the interests of Delta taxpayers and ensure proper governance," said Couns. Rod Binder, Daniel Boisvert, Jennifer Johal, and Dylan Kruger in a statement May 6.
Kruger said he was not available to speak to CBC News Wednesday, following Harvie's announcement about cancelling the Amsterdam trip.
Delta's former multi-term mayor, Lois Jackson, told CBC News that she suspected Harvie, who she hired away from Burnaby to be the city's chief administrative officer, was not listening to his councillors and they were sick of it.
"It think it was the biggest swipe they could take at him," she said about ousting him as Metro chair, although he will remain on Metro Vancouver's mayors committee.
"Is it political? Probably. But is it real? You bet," said Jackson.
Harvie's travel costs surpass $32K
New Westminster Coun. Daniel Fontaine said the upcoming trip to the Netherlands that had been planned by Harvie was another example of unnecessary public spending.
He's critical of regional politicians taking tax-payer-funded trips when they are grappling with major cost overruns with a project like the North Shore Wastewater Treatment Plant .
The project could result in households within the North Shore sewerage area being on the hook for hundreds of dollars in additional fees each year for decades.
- Estimated cost for North Shore Wastewater Treatment Plant balloons to almost $4B
"Our local and regional taxpayers expect better, and so they should," said Fontaine in a statement.
Documents provided by Metro Vancouver show $21,213 in airfare for Harvie to attend a February Canada-in-Asia conference in Singapore .
The airfare for the Netherlands trip was to cost $5,307. So far this year, Harvie's expenses, including the cancelled trip, are $32,852.
In 2023, $17,337 was spent to fly him to a Brisbane conference.
Meanwhile in 2023. the expenses for Metro Vancouver chief administrative officer Jerry Dobrovolny were $37,141, with more than half for travel, training and conferences.
Just Metro business
The regional government defends the spending.
In a statement, a spokesperson said, "Attending out-of-region conferences and study tours is part of Metro Vancouver's Leadership and Engagement program, which was first endorsed by the Metro Vancouver board in 2010.
"All travel aligns with the Board Strategic Plan, and is within the annual budget."
Remuneration bylaws allow board and committee members taking air travel longer than nine hours to travel business or executive class. Metro Vancouver does not pay for spouses to travel with board and committee members.
Harvie, who has declined interviews on the matter, said in statements that any furor about his work in Delta and at Metro Vancouver is all politics.
"It was certainly not for lack of representing Delta's interests at Metro or fulfilling my duties as the Mayor or Delta," he said in an email to CBC News on May 8, following his council's uprising.
"It is definitely apparent they have already started the 2026 civic election in Delta."
Former Delta staffer files civil suit
There are other signs of discord in Delta and on council.
In late March, Paramjit Singh Grewal, the general manager of economic development and stakeholder relations in the mayor's office was dismissed.
He has since brought a civil suit seeking damages and alleging defamation in the firing, which court documents claim was done, "without cause and without notice."
The City of Delta and Coun. Dylan Kruger are named as defendants in the suit. Both have filed responses claiming no wrongdoing. None of the claims have been proven in court.
Harvie, in his email from May 8, made reference to the suit and specifically mentioned Kruger.
"I am very disappointed that Council is involved in this legal matter," he went on to write. "I do hope more public information on this matter will be an outcome of the Court process."

3 travel stocks to buy now: may 2024.
Travel is back in business. Since the latter years of the Covid-19 pandemic, travel stocks to buy have sharply rebounded, boosting earnings and share price of many companies within the sector. The Amplify Travel Tech ETF (NYSEARCA: AWAY ) buys shares of travel agencies and travel technology businesses. The ETF has risen around 20.65% over the past twelve months, as travel public companies continue to benefit from travel demand.
While travel stocks to buy enjoy some love from the market, below are three stocks to buy now.
Booking Holdings (BKNG)
Source: Andrey Solovev / Shutterstock
Booking Holdings (NASDAQ: BKNG ) is a leading global online travel agency. The holdings company operates household names, including Booking.com, Priceline.com, Kayak.com and Agoda.com. The Covid-19 pandemic hit the company’s revenue and earnings hard in 2020. In fact, revenue contracted nearly 55% on a year-over-year basis, while net income came in at a meager $59 million. Since then, Booking’s financial figures have surged well beyond where they were during the pre-pandemic era. In 2023, revenue grew 25% to $21.4 billion.
InvestorPlace - Stock Market News, Stock Advice & Trading Tips
The firm’s first-quarter earnings report for fiscal year 2024 surpassed both revenue and earnings estimates. Quarterly revenue increased 17% YOY to $4.4 billion, while net income increased 192% YOY to $776 million.
BKNG shares have risen over 9% since the start of the year. The company’s recent earnings beat, coupled with the fact its stock trades at 21.4x forward earnings, make it a compelling investment.
Airbnb (ABNB)
Source: Kaspars Grinvalds / Shutterstock
Airbnb (NASDAQ: ABNB ) makes the second entry on this list. The company is a household name for travelers and vacationers across the globe. Airbnb’s online marketplace allows both hosts and guests to connect via their personal computers or mobile devices to offer and book living spaces. The online platform has grown up in terms of its financial statements. Before and during much of the pandemic years, Airbnb was a loss-making company that had been burning significant amounts of cash. However, since 2022, Airbnb has become profitable on a GAAP basis and has continued to improve EPS from year to year.
Its recent first-quarter earnings report for fiscal year 2024 is a testament to the firm’s ability to grow revenue robustly while keeping margins up. Revenue for the first quarter, as well as earnings, surpassed what Wall Street analysts had been predicting. In particular, revenue increased 18% to $2.1 billion while net income came in around $264 million, making this quarter the company’s most profitable since inception.
ABNB trades at a clear premium to a platform like Booking, but robust revenue and earnings growth still makes it a travel stock to buy.
Delta Air Lines (DAL)
Source: EQRoy / Shutterstock.com
Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL ) is a well-known full-service airline for those living in the United States. The airline has built a robust domestic service that can get anyone to any major city in the country; Delta’s international service includes global hubs across Latin America, Western Europe and East Asia. The airline benefitted immensely from pent-up travel demand after Covid-19 restrictions were done away with. Delta’s revenue growth figures in 2021 and 2022 both encroached upon triple-digit territory.
Fourth quarter results for fiscal year 2023 saw quarterly earnings double on a year-over-year basis, as a result of not just strong domestic travel but, particularly, the rebound of international travel routes. First-quarter earnings results for fiscal year 2024 also surpassed estimates as “consumers continue[d] to prioritize travel as a discretionary investment in themselves.”
That is to say, despite inflationary pressures, consumers are still willing to spend on travel, which can only help Delta Air Lines and its shares in the near and medium term.
