Great impressions from Halong Bay. However, there are a lot of boats on the way. - Well-organized boat trip with an overnight stay. Food very sufficient and tasty, friendly staff.
Admirable journey to Vietnam ! Cheap but meaningful experiences! Absolutly agree support and recommended trip on Tourradar
We have group of 4 and were given a private tour by DNQ travel, wow it was a great feeling like in the movies when visiting Halong bay. We had good seafood lunch on board the boat and we have fun do kayaking and boating and also visited the caves. It definitely a good choice. Also we are very happy with our Guide Mr Hung, he speak well in English.

Southeast Asia Cruises

Whether you’re cruising down the Mekong or Irrawaddy, or sailing to Benoa to explore mysteries undiscovered, Southeast Asia Cruising is a unique and exciting experience. Temples, ruins, pilgrimages and more are waiting in the Far East.

Imagine journeying through Angkor Wat in Cambodia, or The Taman Ayun Royal Temple in Bali where thousands of years of religion and history have been made. Immerse yourself in the natural beauty of Malaysia in Penang, from Butterfly farms to Botanical Gardens. Southeast Asia is a diverse and exciting destination prime for an unforgettable vacation.

Things to Do on a Cruise to Southeast Asia

Southeast Asia is the home to many up-and-coming cities and is filled with exotic cuisine that is fast becoming a favorite in America. However, this collection of nations also holds on tight to its Hindu and Buddhist cultures with expansive and shining temples dating back centuries. Continue below for sample experiences to help you make the most of your time spent cruising through Southeast Asia:

Angkor Wat in Siem Reap

  • Explore the extensive temple complex of Angkor Wat in Siem Reap. These stunning buildings were constructed in the 12th century and are surrounded by a protective moat.
  • Take a moped ride through the lively streets of Bangkok, a crowded metropolis that has bustling markets, bright colorful produce, exotic street foods and a vibrant population.

Bagan Archaeological Zone in Myanmar (Burma)

  • We’ve already touched on the stunning Angkor Wat, but there are amazing temples all over this land, from the extremely intricate designs of Bangkok’s temples to the Bagan Archaeological Zone in Myanmar (Burma) where at one time there were 10,000 religious structures. Now this area is still home to over 2,000 remaining temples.
  • Walk through the streets and the markets to find beautiful handiwork, different street foods and interesting performers, like snake charmers.

Balinese massage

  • Take in the arts of Indonesia with a stop in Bali, which takes seriously its historical dances, songs and paintings.
  • Relax with a massage. Massage is like medicine to the people of Southeast Asia, so try all different forms of the service – from the pressure filled approach of the Thai massage to the soothing Balinese approach.

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla., (May 29, 2024) – On the heels of record-breaking travel to Japan by U.S. visitors in 2023, and another strong season underway this year, Princess Cruises today announced it will extend the number of itineraries in Japan during the 2025-26 season.

The 2025-26 cruise season to the must-see island nations of Japan and Southeast Asia onboard a Princess ship has just been announced. On sale now, Japan-built Diamond Princess returns featuring an expanded Japan season showcasing the region’s breathtaking fall foliage, Mt. Fuji, Kyoto and more.

“We truly make it easy to travel to Japan and Southeast Asia on our Diamond Princess Love Boat to experience these amazing destinations,” said Terry Thornton, chief commercial officer for Princess Cruises. “For our fall 2025 through winter 2026 season, we’re thrilled to expand our Japan cruises from Tokyo (Yokohama) during the beautiful fall foliage season and continue to Singapore to highlight the best of Southeast Asia. Plus, our guests only need to unpack once to experience these storied countries while enjoying vibrant shore excursions and our regional culinary and entertainment offerings onboard.”

From ancient temples and castles, to bustling markets and breathtaking gardens, cruisers experience the best way to see Japan with Princess with a new fall 2025 season offering 11 new voyages ranging in length from nine to 22 days, visiting 25 destinations throughout the Land of the Rising Sun, as well as stops in Korea and Taiwan. • For the ultimate Japan exploration, guests can combine these 18- to 22- day itineraries for an unforgettable 40-day adventure

Following her extended Japan season, Diamond Princess will sail to Singapore on a 12-day Southeast Asia & Japan cruise featuring Taipei (Keelung) and Hong Kong to kick off three roundtrip Singapore sailings including:

  • 14-day Malaysia, Thailand & Vietnam cruise, which also includes calls to Phuket, Kuala Lumpur (Port Kelang) and Ho Chi Minh City (Phu My)
  • 16-day Malaysia, Thailand & Vietnam departure which also includes a call to Halong Bay, UNESCO World Heritage Site as well as a gateway to Hanoi

Top Asia FAQs

When’s the best time to cruise to Asia?

We offer a wide variety of Asia itineraries with our revolutionized Celebrity Solstice ship sailing during the winter and Celebrity Millenium year round. Each region of Asia offers different experiences guests can enjoy.

The winter months, from November to February, are the ideal time to explore South Asia, including India and Sri Lanka, when the climate is less humid, giving you more energy for sightseeing.

Countries like South Korea and Japan are delightful all through the summer months and have perfect weather to lounge by their spectacular beaches.

The Lunar New Year usually falls in February, and this is a fantastic time to be in Asia, with widespread celebrations in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam.

Is a cruise a good way to see Asia?

A cruise is the perfect way to see Asia. You’re able to visit multiple places in comfort, with no effort required on your part to get from one to the other. A Celebrity Asian cruise vacation takes you to some of the most exciting destinations in the world, from Japan and Hong Kong, to the island paradise of Bali.  As an example, in the space of just 12 nights, you could visit exciting cities like Singapore, to off-the-beaten path destinations in Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia.

A 12-night Japan itinerary takes you to six contrasting destinations in Japan itself, as well as Busan in South Korea. You could also choose a 14-night itinerary from Singapore to Mumbai, which follows the coast of Malaysia, crosses the Indian Ocean, and then explores Sri Lanka and three ports in India.

Many of our itineraries include overnight stops in destinations including Hong Kong, Bangkok, Hanoi, Phuket and more, giving you time to experience local night markets and restaurants.

Where do Asia cruises depart from?

Celebrity offers a wide choice of cruises in Asia. Departure ports include Bali, Hong Kong, Singapore, Mumbai, and Tokyo.

Do I need visas to visit each country?

It is the responsibility of each guest to identify and obtain all required travel documents and have them available at the pier when necessary. Before leaving home, take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the required travel documents you will be asked to provide prior to boarding the ship. You’ll find more information here .

The majority of Asian nations do not require a visa for entry, but some do. To visit India, for example, you will need to get a visa before you leave home.

What are the main ports of call on an Asian cruise?

Any cruise to Asia is packed with exciting ports, from vibrant cities to blissful beach locations on islands including Langkawi, Ko Samui, and Phuket.

To many, the real marquee ports are the cities like Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Mumbai, Tokyo, and Ho Chi Minh City. But often, it’s the places in between that leave just as great an impression, whether you’re exploring an exquisite temple in Kyoto or cruising the serene backwaters of Cochin on a rice barge.

What’s best about an Asia cruise with Celebrity is that our ships stay overnight in many ports, so you can really get to know a destination. In Hanoi, for example, you can enjoy the buzz of the city and spend a day sailing beautiful Halong Bay. In Bangkok, there’s time to see the shimmering Grand Palace as well as take a river cruise and browse colorful floating markets.

Are there any vaccination or health requirements?

There are no compulsory vaccinations to visit Asian countries, but it is recommended to be up to date with all your regular inoculations, including tetanus and hepatitis A. It’s important to consult your physician in advance to plan a vaccination schedule.

Celebrity’s Asian itineraries do not visit ports where malaria is known to be a high risk, so it is unlikely that you will need anti-malarial drugs—but again, check with your physician or travel health clinic in advance as everybody’s situation is different.

How do I handle currency exchange for the different countries visited?

Most places in Southeast Asia and Japan take credit cards, but you will need a small amount of local currency to shop in markets or buy souvenirs from vendors. For India, rural areas still have a cash economy, so you will need some rupees outside of the main urban areas.

While enthusiastic souvenir vendors may offer to take U.S. dollars, you will not get a good exchange rate, and you will be given change in local currency. If you choose to pay this way, make sure you know the exchange rate and what denominations local notes come in.

If you use an ATM on your travels, it’s safer to use one that’s attached to a reputable bank.

What languages are commonly spoken, and will I need a translator or phrasebook?

Dozens of different languages are spoken across Asia; India alone has 22 official languages. While it’s polite to offer a greeting in the local language, and helpful to know a few phrases, it’s not necessary to be fluent.

You will not need a translator on your travels in Asia. All guides on shore excursions speak English. A lot of signage is in English as well as the local language, especially in tourist areas. In many countries, such as Hong Kong, Singapore, and India, English is an official language, and in many others, it is taught in school as a second language.

What cultural and historical sites can I expect to see on excursions?

Our wide range of excursions takes you to all the main cultural sites in the ports we visit. You can explore historic George Town from Penang, and take in the buzz and bustle of Hong Kong’s various night markets on an after-dark tour.

See the temple of the Emerald Buddha in Bangkok and visit the poignant Peace Memorial Museum in Hiroshima. Learn about Buddhism with a monk in Colombo, and explore the dazzling imperial city of Hue from Chan May, Vietnam.

Are there specific cultural norms or etiquette I should be aware of?

It’s a good idea to take a little time to understand the culture of the Asian countries you are visiting. Generally speaking, extreme politeness is important, as is taking the time to greet people, and remaining softly spoken.

Many Asian countries are Buddhist, in which case, always show respect to Buddha statues and temples and do not touch Buddhist monks. Do not point at people and do not be surprised if a local avoids eye contact during a conversation; this is a sign of respect. In Thailand, it is an offense to say anything negative about the royal family.

Try to understand the sense of “face” that is prevalent in Asian countries. Saving face is important; so, for example, a person may tell you what they think you want to hear rather than the reality, to avoid losing face. Shouting at someone causes you to lose face.

Japan in particular is a country with a complex social etiquette. Just a few include not tipping (it’s just not done here); never blowing your nose in public; taking off your shoes before entering a temple; and not blocking busy sidewalks in the densely populated cities.

If you’re visiting somewhere on a tour where specific etiquette is expected, your guide will point out all you need to know.

East, Southeast Asia had record methamphetamine seizures last year. Profits remain in the billions

BANGKOK (AP) — East and Southeast Asia are awash in record amounts of methamphetamine and other synthetic drugs, the U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime said in a new report Tuesday. It traced their source largely to the cross-border region known as the Golden Triangle where Thailand , Myanmar and Laos meet.

The region is historically known for growing opium and hosting many of the labs that convert it to heroin.

“We have become used to record seizures, but the scale meth production in the Golden Triangle has now reached is massive. So are the profits generated,” Benedikt Hofmann, UNODC’s deputy regional representative for Southeast Asia and the Pacific, told The Associated Press. “For East and Southeast Asia, we are now looking at something closer to $80 billion per year feeding back into the region’s illicit economies.”

The Golden Triangle area has seen decades of political instability.

Myanmar’s frontier regions are largely lawless and exploited by drug producers and traffickers. In recent decades, it has become the region’s epicenter for illegal amphetamine products. A 2021 military takeover that unseated the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi and triggered armed resistance nationwide further destabilized the country.

The new report said the total amount of methamphetamine seized in East and Southeast Asia reached a record 190 tons in 2023. Some 89% of that came from Southeast Asia, with much of that from the Golden Triangle.

The 1.1 billion seized methamphetamine tablets, weighing 98.3 tons, were the most ever reported for the region, as were the 90 tons of seized crystal methamphetamine, the report said.

Even regional seizures of the party drug ecstasy, though representing a very small portion of the illicit synthetic drugs trafficked in the region, reached record levels last year of over 26.7 million tablets, mostly originating from Europe, the report said.

It also highlighted the increasing appearance in recent years of ketamine , a powerful anesthetic used for patients undergoing surgery but recently employed for treating depression and anxiety, as well as for recreational use.

The U.N. report said networks that make and traffic ketamine have diversified their business model and supply channels, moving from other parts of East and Southeast Asia into the Golden Triangle area of Myanmar and, more recently, into other countries in the lower Mekong River basin.

The region’s production of methamphetamine is concentrated in eastern Myanmar’s Shan State — the heartland of the Golden Triangle — especially in areas known as Special Regions where ethnic minorities with their own armies enjoy some privileges of self-government, the report said.

“The illicit drug manufacturing activity is undertaken by Asian organized crime groups who have partnered with armed groups in Shan,” it said.

Myanmar’s northern and eastern border regions have also become notorious for harboring major organized crime operations in casinos involving online scams, illegal gambling and human trafficking.

“The growing convergence of drug trafficking and emerging forms of organized crime in the Mekong is a major concern,” said UNODC’s Hofmann. “An online casino may be used to launder proceeds from the drug economy, while the same building may house a scam center – all in the hands of one criminal group which offers additional criminal services via Telegram and other channels.”

The report also said drugs originating from Myanmar are increasingly being smuggled to other countries along maritime routes. The drugs are sent as far as South Korea, Australia and New Zealand and other Pacific nations.

“Trafficking routes combining complex land-based and maritime corridors have become more common, essentially creating super-highways for large drug shipments out of the Mekong, many of which go undetected,” Hofmann said.
