Canadians waited 69 years for this moment. So what's another four holes?

Nick Taylor of Abbotsford, B.C., won the RBC Canadian Open on Sunday at Toronto's Oakdale Golf and Country Club, becoming the first Canadian man to win at home since Pat Fletcher in 1954.

"To kind of break that curse, if [that's] you want to call — I'm pretty speechless. I don't think it's going to sink in for quite some time what happened today," Taylor said.

What happened was 22 holes of golf filled with highs and lows — and a career-defining putt at the end of it all.

Tied at 17-under, Taylor, 35, duelled with England's Tommy Fleetwood over four playoff holes — they matched each other with birdies and pars playing the 18th hole twice before each making a par on the ninth.

And so off they went back to the 18th. Fleetwood's tee shot landed in a bunker, but Taylor's settled on the first cut.

It allowed the Canadian to attack the green, and he did, leaving himself a long eagle putt. Fleetwood, meanwhile, laid up and was standing over a putt for birdie.

Taylor didn't let him hit it — he nailed his own putt from 72 feet, the longest of his career. The crowd around the 18th green leapt with joy.

"For that to drop was a huge surprise, but an amazing one," Taylor said.

Adam Hadwin, the Abbotsford, B.C., native who tied for 12th in the tournament, couldn't contain his excitement, rushing the green with a bottle of champagne in hand — only to be tackled by an unknowing security guard.

Elsewhere, tears flew and cheers streamed to the Toronto skies, which had been sending down rain throughout most of the playoff.

Along with Hadwin, there was Canadian golf royalty: 2003 Masters champion Mike Weir, who lost a playoff of his own at this tournament in 2004, was there, celebrating on the green.

"It means everything. I feel like we all support each other so much, for them to stick around. I think all of us said it this week, if us individually weren't the people to win, we really want another Canadian to do it and break this long drought."

Corey Conners, the 18-hole leader who struggled Sunday to wind up tied for 20th, was there to embrace Taylor as well.

"It's obviously a thrilling moment for Canadian golf," Conners told CBC Sports amid the celebration. "It's been far too long and I'm so thrilled for Nick. He's such a great guy and been playing great, so fun to see."

“This is the most incredible feeling ever.”

An emotional @NTaylorGolf59 attempts to put into words what it means to win @RBCCanadianOpen. pic.twitter.com/ecOZGQ79s2 — @PGATOUR

The playoff took on the feel of an international competition. As the Canadian contingent followed Taylor, Fleetwood's countrymen Justin Rose and Tyrell Hatton were there to cheer on their man as he pursued a long-awaited first PGA Tour victory.

Fleetwood was greeted by applause as he left the green to sign his scorecard.

The crowd, meanwhile, was decidedly on Taylor's side — they booed Fleetwood's bad shots and politely clapped for his good ones.

"Nice moment for Nick and the fans here," Fleetwood said. "So it's great to be a part of that Sunday and that playoff. I had my chances, really. It wasn't to be this time."

'incredible moment'.

For Taylor, it was unbridled support, mixed in with nerves.

As Taylor kept his place atop the leaderboard through the final regulation holes, the crowds around him gradually swelled.

The Canadian was serenaded with the national anthem, as well as many chants with variations of his name.

And the release when that shocking putt rattled the cup was reminiscent of a hockey crowd watching its team win a playoff game in the fourth overtime.

"I knew just how pumped they were and they were trying to put every ounce of energy into it to help me pull it through," Taylor said.

Taylor becomes the fourth Canadian to win on the PGA Tour this season — the most ever. He joins Conners, Mackenzie Hughes and Adam Svensson in the winners' circle. The latter two both missed the cut at Oakdale.

"That is the most amazing thing I've ever seen!!!! Congrats @ntaylorgolf59! 20 years ago @mweirsy inspired a bunch of Canadians like Nick to pursue their dream, and now Nick has done the same. What a moment for Canadian golf," Hughes tweeted.

It's Taylor's third career PGA Tour victory. He also won the Sanderson Farms Championship in 2015 and the Pebble Beach Pro-Am in 2020.

He'll now move on to the U.S. Open next week at Los Angeles Country Club. He'll also play in his second-ever Masters next April.

Hatton, England's Aaron Rai and Taiwan's C.T. Pan tied for third at 16-under, while American Eric Cole fired a 9-under 63 to match the course record set by Taylor on Saturday and finish tied for sixth.

Canada's Taylor sets new Oakdale Golf and Country Club course record after 3rd round at Canadian Open

Playing alongside Fleetwood and Conners on Thursday, Taylor struggled to a 3-over 75, leaving an uphill climb just to make the cut.

"I was on the seventh hole, I remember, first day, my 16th hole, 10 feet for par and made that and birdied 8 and parred the last to somewhat be in the cut sight. So to be standing there and then sitting here today is pretty remarkable," Taylor said.

On Friday, he lowered his score by eight strokes — more than enough to make the cut, but still leaving him with an early tee time on Saturday.

Taylor credited a "talking-to" from wife Andie, who was at home for the turnaround.

Inuit art once had a big role at the Canadian Open

The tournament began under a cloud of smoke — both literal and metaphorical. On Tuesday, the PGA Tour made a bombshell announcement that it was partnering with Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, which backs rival tour LIV Golf.

At the same time, smoke from the wildfires in northern Ontario and Quebec weren't overly pervasive, especially the deeper the tournament went. There were no delays, and golfers said it didn't affect them.

By Sunday, Taylor made sure the full focus was on golf.

During his third round, playing partner Greyson Sigg, wowed at the crowds following Taylor, asked Taylor if he was famous in Canada.

Taylor said no.

Now, that's about to change. And he'll be in the history books forever.

MacIntyre won his first PGA Tour title with a one-shot win over fellow Ben Griffin. The Scot opened the day with a four-shot lead, and he ultimately lost that large edge but managed to hang on at 16-under 264.

MacIntyre's fellow DP World Tour alum Victor Perez finished alone in third place, two shots out of the lead. Tom Kim and Rory McIlroy finished in a tie for fourth place on 13-under total.

MacIntyre won the $1,692,000 winner's share of the $9,400,000 purse.

RBC Canadian Open recap notes

MacIntyre earned 48 Official World Golf Ranking points with the win in the 72-hole stroke-play championship, which helps his place in the world ranking.

SAMMAMISH, Wash. — The 2024 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship is being contested at Sahalee Country Club, a visually intimidating major test that will be a challenge for the world’s best players this week in Sammamish, Wash. Difficult conditions are often the great equalizer at major championships, leveling the playing field for the 156 athletes competing, but some players still have slight statistical advantages on which they hope to capitalize as they work to capture some of the biggest titles in all of women’s golf.

Take a look at just a few of those athletes teeing it up this week at Sahalee for the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship:

Allisen Corpuz

Allisen Corpuz currently leads the LPGA Tour in driving accuracy this season, hitting the fairway off the tee 86.6 percent of the time, a number that equates to her finding the short grass on 518 of 598 total drives. Sahalee has incredibly narrow visuals off the tee, views that are intimidating to even the most storied of LPGA Tour veterans. But with tee shots that fly as straight as those of Corpuz, the Hawaii native should be able to consistently find the fairway throughout the course of the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, something that should translate to more hit greens in regulation and birdie opportunities for the 26-year-old.

According to KPMG Performance Insights, Corpuz has struck the ball well in major championships over the last two seasons, ranking fifth in strokes gained ball striking (+1.46), sixth in strokes gained approach (+1.06) and sixth in strokes gained total since the major season began in 2023. She became a Rolex First-Time Winner at the U.S. Women’s Open at Pebble Beach Golf Links last July and finished in the top 15 of three other major championships last season – tying for fourth at The Chevron Championship, tying for 15th at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and tying for sixth at the AIG Women’s Open.

Her 2023 major prowess hasn’t yet translated to the 2024 season, but considering her success at some of golf’s most challenging venues, Corpuz is a player who shouldn’t be left out of the contention conversation this week in Washington.

Brooke Henderson

Brooke Henderson might seem like an obvious player to watch at Sahalee Country Club, particularly as she won the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship the last time the championship was contested at this venue in 2016. But her statistics indicate that a third major title could be just around the corner for the Canadian, and why couldn’t it come at a place at which Henderson has a resoundingly positive history?

According to KPMG Performance Insights, the 26-year-old leads in strokes gained total per round in all major championships since the beginning of the 2021 season, picking up an average of 2.15 shots on the field in each round of the LPGA Tour’s five major tournaments in the last four years. In that span, Henderson has won her second career major title at the 2022 Amundi Evian Championship and earned an additional nine top-15 finishes, one of which came earlier this season when she tied for third at The Chevron Championship. She is also at the front of the pack in major championships when it comes to scoring average and score to par, recording a 70.60 stroke average and shooting 59 under par across the 17 majors that have been played since the start of the 2021 LPGA Tour season.

As it pertains to Sahalee, Henderson is fairly long and fairly accurate off the tee, hitting it an average of 264.375 yards with her driver and finding the fairway 74.1 percent of the time while doing so. She is ranked ninth in strokes gained driving (+0.63), 10th in strokes gained total (+1.39) and 17th in strokes gained tee to green (+1.14) on the LPGA Tour so far this season, per data provided by KPMG Performance Insights. Couple that excellent ball-striking with a venue at which Henderson knows how to win, and the Canadian just might be deadly this week at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.

Rose Zhang recently collected her second career LPGA Tour title last month at the Cognizant Founders Cup, winning by two shots over Madelene Sagstrom at Upper Montclair Country Club in Clifton, N.J. While it doesn’t even slightly compare to the narrowness that Zhang and the rest of the field are facing off the tee this week at Sahalee Country Club, Upper Montclair is quite tight in spots, making her recent success in the Garden State a potential weapon for Zhang to wield in Washington State.

Zhang ranks 16th on the LPGA Tour in driving accuracy, hitting 279 of her 350 total fairways this season, a conversion rate of 79.7 percent. According to KPMG Performance Insights, the 21-year-old is tied for fifth in most strokes gained tee to green per round in major championships over the last two seasons, as Zhang has picked up 1.62 shots on the field with her long game. Additionally, Zhang is ranked second in strokes gained approach (+1.34), third in strokes gained total (+1.98) and fifth in strokes gained tee to green (+1.46) so far this year, an amalgamation of stats that could be a deadly combination at a course like Sahalee that requires precise ball striking.

The Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings No. 9 is another player who seems to thrive in difficult conditions, as Zhang finished in a tie for eighth at last year’s KPMG Women’s PGA Championship at Baltusrol Golf Club’s Lower Course and then tied for ninth at the U.S. Women’s Open at Pebble Beach Golf Links, and she just might contend again this week at Sahalee considering that fact.

Madelene Sagstrom

It was Madelene Sagstrom who went toe-to-toe with Zhang last month in New Jersey, and while the Swede ultimately fell to the American at the Cognizant Founders Cup, her performance in the Garden State could be a good indicator of how she fares this week at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. Even though Sahalee is much narrower off the tee than Upper Montclair, her ability to keep the ball in the fairway that week led to a litany of birdie and eagle opportunities, many of which the 31-year-old took advantage of en route to posting a four-round total of 22-under to finish 13 strokes ahead of her next closest competitor.

Sahalee likely won’t be giving up that many shots to the 156-player field this week, but Sagstrom is a player who, on paper, just might be able to throw a few punches at this formidable venue. She isn’t exceptional when it comes to driving accuracy, only finding the fairway 66.9 percent of the time off the tee, but Sagstrom does rank 10th on the LPGA Tour in average driving distance (273.640 yards), length that is typically a benefit during major championships. She is also ranked 12th in strokes gained driving, according to KPMG Performance Insights, picking up 0.59 shots on the field with her shots off the tee.

Sagstrom has also been deadly with her putter this year, ranking fifth on the LPGA Tour in strokes gained putting (+0.96), and if she can combine solid ball striking with a hot putter, we might see the Swede contend for her second career LPGA Tour title at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.

Travelers Championship Prize Money Payout 2024

T he eighth and final signature event of the PGA Tour season takes place at TPC River Highlands in Connecticut with the Travelers Championship.

In keeping with the other prestigious tournaments this season, players will be teeing it up for the chance to win prize money comparable to the regular events of the PGA Tour’s big-money arrival, LIV Golf.

Unlike the most recent signature event, the Memorial Tournament , there is no cut this week and because of that, the prize money for the winner is less than the $4m handed to Scottie Scheffler for his victory in the Muirfield Village event, even though the overall purse remains the same at $20m. Still, with $3.6m available to the winner, it remains one of the more lucrative tournaments of the year on any circuit.

In fact, it's not just this week’s winner who will be a seven-figure sum better off by Sunday evening. The runner-up will claim $2.16m, while the player finishing third will boost his bank balance by $1.36m.

Because it’s a no-cut event, no one will leave the tournament without prize money, with even the player finishing bottom of the leaderboard set to earn $38,000.

Below is the prize money payout for the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands.

Travelers Championship Prize Money Payout

Who are the star names in the travelers championship.

The defending champion is Keegan Bradley. He beat Zac Blair and Brian Harman by three shots in 2023, despite a late wobble, to hand him his sixth PGA Tour title .

However, the man to beat will be Scottie Scheffler. Despite an off week at the US Open, where he finished T41, the American has been in imperious form throughout 2024 and has amassed five victories so far.

He has saved his best form for the big tournaments too. As well as winning The Masters and The Players Championship, Scheffler has also won three of the previous seven signature events, so it would not be surprising to see him at the top of the leaderboard again on Sunday evening.

One player who could have something to say about that is PGA Champion Xander Schauffele , who won the tournament in 2022, while other former winners in the field include 2021 champion Harris English and three-time Major winner Jordan Spieth, who claimed victory seven years ago.

Aside from Scheffler and Schauffele, other players from the world’s top 10 in the field are Ludvig Aberg, Wyndham Clark, Viktor Hovland, Collin Morikawa and Patrick Cantlay, but one glaring omission is World No.3 Rory McIlroy, who confirmed in a statement he had withdrawn from the tournament following a heartbreaking defeat to Bryson DeChambeau at the US Open.

Where Is The Travelers Championship?

The tournament is held at TPC River Highlands, its home since 1984. The Connecticut course is known for its low scoring and was the scene of Jim Furyk’s historic 58 at the 2016 edition of the tournament - the PGA Tour’s all-time scoring record.

How Much Does The Winner Of The Travelers Championship Make?

The 2024 edition of the Travelers Championship is one of the PGA Tour’s eight signature events, so is one of the most lucrative. The winner will earn $3.6m, while even the next two players on the leaderboard will claim seven-figure sums. The player finishing 71st and bottom of the leaderboard is also set to earn prize money of $38,000.

2024 Travelers Championship leaderboard: Live updates, full coverage, golf scores in Round 3 on Saturday

Live scores, updates and highlights from saturday's third-round action at tpc river highlands.

Tom Kim takes a two-stroke lead into the weekend at the 2024 Travelers Championship as he eyes his fourth win on the PGA Tour. Celebrating his 22nd birthday on Friday, Kim kept his foot on the gas following a 62 with a 65 to hold a two-stroke lead on the field. Kim will need to keep the blemishes off the scorecard as world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, Collin Morikawa and Akshay Bhatia sit as his closest challengers.

PGA Championship winner Xander Schauffele, Shane Lowry and two-time major winner Justin Thomas round out the first page of the leaderboard finding themselves within four strokes of the lead entering the weekend. While Schauffele and Lowry hope to add to their winning ways this yseasonar, Thomas is seeking his first win in more than two years.

Keep it locked here as CBS Sports will be keeping track of everything with live updates and analysis throughout the day. You can watch all the action live on CBS, CBSSports.com and the CBS Sports App from 3-6 p.m. ET on Saturday.

Young grabs a birdie on No. 17

What a shot into the par-4 17th from Cameron Young. Hitting his approach to 5 feet, Young cashes in to get to 11 under on the round and inside that sub-60 number. A par on the last will mean a 59 while another birdie would get him to 58 — a score only Jim Furyk has shot on the PGA Tour.

Big bird for Young makes chance at sub-60 real

What a shot from Cameron Young on the par-4 15th. Hitting his tee shot just outside 4 feet, Young converts for eagle to get to 10 under on his round with three holes to play. He needs to pick up one more birdie across this final stretch to break 60. He also finds himself at 12 under and one off the lead of Tom Kim who has yet to tee off.

Can Collin make his move?

Collin Morikawa has been awesome through two days and was flawless on Friday with seven birdies en route to his 63. Morikawa made six birdie bids from outside 8 feet (five from outside 10 feet) and did not miss a fairway. While he ranks highly in greens in regulation, the two-time major champ is in the middle of the pack in strokes gained approach. If the irons improve, watch out.

Cameron Young looks to go sub-60

Well…Cameron Young is en fuego. The former PGA Tour rookie of the year started birdie, birdie, eagle and has added another birdie on the par-4 9th to turn in 7-under 28. He will look to add four more on his back half and join the sub-60 club which, of course, features a 58 from Jim Furyk in the 2016 Travelers. Young is now in a share of 6th place at 9 under.

Akshay Bhatia bubbling at the surface

While Tom Kim and Collin Morikawa have found the short grass with consistency, they rank near the bottom of the field in terms of distance. Bhatia has matched this accuracy and added distance and could prove to be a weapon as he starts his third round two behind Kim at 11 under. Bhatia — also just 22 — eyes his third victory of his young career.

Scheffler eyes win No. 6

It hasn't been flashy from the world No. 1 but it has been effective. A birdie on his last hole last night pushed Scottie Scheffler to 11 under and only two behind his birthday twin Tom Kim. Scheffler is putting it nicely and after a so-so day from tee-to-green on Thursday he turned a nice corner Friday.

A look at the leader

Tom Kim takes a two-stroke lead into the weekend at the Travelers after bogey-free rounds of 62 and 65. Kim ranks second in driving accuracy, second in strokes gained tee to green and third in strokes gained putting. The 22-year-old maintained his first-round lead on Friday, but he may need to convert a couple more chances on Saturday given the chasing pack.
