Visit the Highest Tides on Earth

The sandstone Hopewell Rocks guard the Bay of Fundy like top-heavy Dr. Seuss soldiers. These red cliffs were part of a massive mountain range millions of years ago that were older than the Appalachians and larger than the Canadian Rockies. Erosion did its best work here! Around the world, the tides change by an average of 3ft, but the Hopewell Rocks get hit with changes of up to 50ft, the height of a four-story building!

Cruising for Lobsters

Get a closer look at Acadian culture and discover all there is to know about lobsters, with a Shediac Bay Lobster Cruise with Captain Ron. Learn the old fishing techniques that lobster fishermen have perfected over the years and taste the bounty of the ocean.

Take the Scenic Route

Travel the Cabot Trail , Canada’s most breathtaking and photographed drive. Lead by a local guide, experience lush glens, white gypsum bluffs and headlands pounded by surf.  Seldom far from the sea, always breathtakingly lovely the trail is at its best in September and October when the highlands are bright with autumn colours. End your relaxing ride at Cape Breton Highlands National Park.

Visit a UNESCO World Heritage Site

The colourful town of Lunenburg sits snug on the shore of southern Nova Scotia. Named the most beautiful small town in Canada, see original colonial buildings, their facades freshly-painted in candy apple red, cobalt, and lemon. The past has been preserved here like a a time capsule. A guided walking tour starts at the Lunenburg Academy and finishes at the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic . As you stroll, you might hear a blacksmith’s hammer echo through the streets from the wharf, or possibly see the iconic Bluenose II which is sometimes anchored there.

Enjoy a Feast in a Fortress

The Halifax Citade l is a National Historic Site of Canada and played a key role in the growth of Halifax and Canada. Originally built as a military fortification to protect the British from enemies, the Citadel now watches over the city's downtown and serves as a reminder of Halifax's past. Learn how this site was built and what life was like for soldiers in the late 1800s with your guide, a kilted soldier of the 78th Highland Regiment. Afterwards, enjoy dinner in one of the historically converted rooms surrounded by beautiful high brick walls, period paintings and fine woodwork.

Gros Morne National Park – Choose your own Adventure!

Nature pulled out its best for Gros Morne ! Two distinct landscapes, the Gulf of St. Lawrence lowlands and the Long-Range Mountains, provide views of towering cliffs, waterfalls, glacial fjords, and an amazing collection of wildlife. Discover the barren area of the Tablelands with a guided walk on “Earth’s mantle”. Hear how this unique land was formed and enjoy broad panoramic views. As a bonus, see Gros Morne by water with a choice of one of two cruises:

Bonne Bay:   A lively narrated cruise of the two connected arms of Bonne Bay takes us by Newfoundland’s best. Watch for moose, seabirds, and whales that are known to breach the boat side, and enjoy traditional music performed by the crew.

Western Brook Pond:  The walk to get to the Western Brook Pond Boat Tour is a moderate 3 km gravel and boardwalk trail (approx. 45 min. walk) that leads from the parking lot, downhill to the dock …. and the return walk is naturally, 3 km up hill.  Once aboard, guests will behold the spectacular glacier-carved land-locked fjord, waterfalls cascading from 2000 feet that often turn to mist before reaching the pond, billion-year-old cliffs, and frequent wildlife sightings. Glacial action has resulted in this magnificent scenery:  coastal lowland, alpine plateau, glacial valleys, and sheer cliffs.

Recognizing Ancient Cultures

Long before Europeans arrived, the west side of Newfoundland's Great Northern Peninsula was a crossroads of 6000 years of human history. Discover one of North America’s most fascinating archaeological finds at Port au Choix National Historic Site .

The Legacy of Sir Wilfred Grenfell

Experience the spectacular legacy of Dr. Wilfred Grenfell at the Grenfell Interpretation Centre .  Not only was he a doctor he advocated for those on the island establishing hospitals, schools and orphanages, he devoted his life work to serving the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. For his years of service on behalf of these communities, he was knighted by King George V.

Vikings at L’Anse Aux Meadows!

The site of this Viking encampment was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1978 as the only authenticated Norse site in North America . With the aid of costumed animators, hear the stories of Norse expeditions from Greenland and their struggles with settler life when they arrived. During the tour of the village, see the original Viking artifacts uncovered during archaeological excavations, learn about the trades of the time, and hear the stories of Norse legend.

Gaze Over the Horizon

At the tip of the Bonavista Peninsula sits the beacon of the Cape Bonavista Lighthouse . Built in 1843, the light at Cape Bonavista is one of the few in the world where you can still climb up the stone tower to see the same seal oil-fueled light used in the 19th century. Not only is this a beautiful, historic lighthouse, it also offers an excellent vantage point to scan the waves for whales, icebergs, and puffins.

Ryan Premises National Historic Site

19th century clapboard buildings on the shore of Bonavista harbour are the backdrop where the site’s interpreters share their insight and connection to the fishing industry.  Explore the internationally-recognized “Cod, Seals and Survivors” exhibition that tells the 500-year story of Canada’s east coast fishery.

Whale Watching & North America's Largest Atlantic Puffin Colony

Be entertained by this knowledgeable and fun-loving crew while watching the seabirds and scanning for whales and other wildlife.   The cruise focuses on the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve, home of the Atlantic Puffin and the largest humpback whale population in North America.

Cape Spear Lighthouse

“If you stand here, your back to the sea, the entire population of North America stretches out in front of you. And there’s nothing behind you until Ireland.” This iconic lighthous e is the oldest in the province, and a symbol of Newfoundland and Labrador’s marine history. Explore the lighthouse and learn about the history of this place, and its place in history.

Time in Newfoundland’s Capital City

Full of small-town charm and big-city enjoyment, St. John's is the capital city of Newfoundland and Labrador and is one of the oldest and easterly cities in North America. Learn more about this vibrant city with a guided tour. Afterward, meander past the colourful jellybean row houses to the harbour and take in the salty ocean air. As the beating heart of the province, St. John’s offers something for everyone including arts and culture, architecture, shopping, and unique dining options. Admission is included to your choice of either The Rooms , a cultural space that reflects Newfoundland and Labrador's stories or the Johnson GEO CENTRE , a geological interpretation centre.

Why This Tour is Great

See it all in one trip!

Atlantic Canada is a region of superlatives that include the highest tides, the world’s rarest whales and the earliest North American Viking settlements. Here, the rocks tell the story of the formation of continents, and incredible vistas find their significance in the telling of the story of Canada.

It’s all about the people … You will feel like family

Atlantic Canada has a warm, welcoming personality.  Appreciate the energy and sense of fun in the music and feel a personal connection to moments in Canada’s history through the stories. Although the sights are spectacular, it will be the experiences with the people: their hospitality, culture, music, food, and stories that will be featured in your memories.

Important Info for this Tour

We make joining our tours easy, and this 21-day tour includes our unique Connections Program and it includes airfare from St. John's NL to Toronto.

The tour follows route C1 , with the following pickup locations:

  • Bowmanville
  • Peterborough

We recommend comfortable rubber-soled shoes for the walking tours as well as for the boat rides. Worth noting, depending on where you go exploring, the terrain in Halifax can be quite hilly.  In Newfoundland, the walking in the Tablelands is about 3 km on a packed but uneven trail.  The walk to the Western Brook Pond Boat Tour is a moderate 3 km trail with a gentle slope down to the water (approx. 45 minutes each way).

This itinerary includes a dinner cruise, sightseeing cruises, and ferry rides, with the ferry from Nova Scotia to Newfoundland being seven hours long.  Bringing along a remedy for motion sickness is suggested.  You don’t want to let a little thing like that spoil these amazing experiences.

Optional Additions

For the days with free time, you may want to research interesting things to do in advance. Your tour director will certainly be able to provide some suggestions, but here are some ideas:

My trip began inauspiciously with my arrival at 6:30ish am on Saturday September 7. I had planned on taking the Maritime shuttle from the airport to my Halifax hotel, the Cambridge suites, dropping my luggage until later check in in the afternoon and heading to Pier 21 for some research continuing on to a Bicycle Thief for lunch (chowder) and walking along the boardwalk before taking in the Public Gardens and dinner at a restaurant near the hotel. The next three days were to include a wine tour, visits to the Maritime Museum, the Citadel and the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, a food tour, also three dinners at restaurants where I would try out different chowders prior to the tour Meet and Greet on Tuesday evening.

Well, hurricane Dorian was definitely a game changer! I did take a Maritime shuttle to the Cambridge suites where I was welcomed to breakfast while the very kind desk staff accommodated my early 9 am check in. I enjoyed my breakfast then headed up to my room and periodically the rooftop terrace to observe the oncoming storm. I actually had a view of the yellow Crane from my room window and watched it twirling in the wind throughout the later morning and afternoon until it vanished from my view. That evening my first dinner in Halifax was at Canvas (the hotel restaurant) & did include some seafood chowder it wasn’t the best that I had but I had it as an accompaniment to a focaccia grilled cheese sandwich and quite possibly the best two Caesars I’ve ever had in my life. The restaurant was filled with travellers and the staff worked hard to ensure that we all enjoyed dinner. The hotel did not lose power although at one point the elevators were closed down and telephones from the rooms were not working, Wi-Fi was a bit spotty but I know that I spent the night of the hurricane feeling safe and secure. The next few days were filled with altering plans when the wine tour was cancelled (I was able to rebook it), I did do two food tours which were very enjoyable as was the rebooked wine tour that I enjoyed on my last day in Halifax September 22. Pier 21 was eventually able to open on the Tuesday and I was able to do my genealogy research and enjoy a tour of the Immigration Museum. Over the course of those 3 days I enjoyed wonderful meals at 2 Doors Down, Harbourside sea grill and pour house & the Bicycle Thief in addition to my breakfasts at Canvas and the “lunches” on my 2 food tours. I found the Cambridge suites to be an excellent hotel and very well placed for my explorations other than the fact that it is way up the hill but that was good for my exercise regime.

The Maritimes tour began with a wine and cheese meet and greet on Tuesday the 10th followed by an 8 AM departure for Moncton on the Wednesday morning. Our Wednesday travels included a tour of the Joggins Fossil Cliffs where we enjoyed an included lunch of salads & sandwiches and a lobster dinner on board a lobster boat on Shediac Bay before our early evening arrival in Moncton

Thursday we travelled on to Saint John with a stop to “walk the ocean floor” at the Hopewell rocks, an included lunch in Alma and a tour to the Reversing Falls/rapids before checking in for 2 nights at the Delta Saint John. Friday saw us taking a day trip to Saint Andrew’s by the Sea where we enjoyed whale watching and had free time after included lunch. Some of us went for a walk up to the Kingsbrae gardens which were very beautiful. The evening was free after we returned to Saint John. Saturday included a bus tour of Saint John, free time to find lunch at the Market before we boarded the ferry to Digby. We arrived in drizzle at the Digby pines resort where we spent the night and enjoyed a wonderful included three-course dinner Saturday night and quite possibly the best breakfast buffet I’ve ever had on Sunday morning. After breakfast on Sunday we continued our track towards Wolfville. Grand Pre Historic site was a bucket list location for me to visit and it was included on the tour, we were later given free time to find lunch in Wolfville, visited Planters Ridge winery for a great tour and wine tasting accompanied by 3 local cheeses before returning to Halifax for a 2 night stay.

While overnighting in Halifax, we went on a day trip starting at 7:30 in the morning to Peggy’s Cove for breakfast, Mahone Bay for coffee, Lunenburg for a wonderful walking tour, free time to visit the Maritime Museum (entrance included) and find our own lunch (lobster Mac and cheese at the Grand Banker for me ... wow!) before returning through Mahone Bay (ice cream) to Halifax.

On Tuesday we left Halifax again this time with Charlottetown as our destination. En route we visited the Millbrook cultural and heritage centre before crossing the Confederation Bridge to Prince Edward Island. We checked into the most disappointing hotel on the trip (Rodd Royalty in Charlottetown) and after dinner attended Anne of Green Gables the Musical... delightful. Wednesday morning we enjoyed a walking tour hosted by 2 of the confederation players in character and then had free time for coffee/lunch & exploring in Charlottetown before leaving for a driving tour to Green Gables, Cavendish beach and a remarkably delicious lobster dinner at New Glasgow Lobster dinner Wow!

Thursday morning we departed Charlottetown and took the ferry back to Nova Scotia. Just before the Canso Causeway we stopped for an incredibly delicious lunch at the Cove restaurant. After crossing the Causeway we visited the Alexander Graham Bell Museum while our bags were delivered to our hotel in Baddeck. Friday we drove around the Cabot Trail stopping at various lookouts for photographs, at Chetecamp for a fantastic whale watching cruise , a picnic lunch, coffee stop at Keltic Lodge before returning to the Inverary Resort for a delicious dinner with local entertainment. Saturday was an incredibly long day, we left Baddeck at 8 am and headed to the Fortress of Louisbourg where we enjoyed a tour and had lunch (another bucket list location for me), we then continued on to Halifax arriving shortly after 7 pm after several coffee stops along the way. We said goodbye to our wonderful tour director and totally awesome bus driver that evening. The tour officially ended the next morning.

On Sunday morning I walked to meet up with my wine tour, afterwards I stopped in at Chives to enjoy an appetizer of scallops and a desert. I left for Saskatoon late Monday morning, taking the Maritime Shuttle to the airport (with the same driver). All in all an excellent time!

Great TR, too bad about Dorian, but it sounds like you definitely made the best of the situation!

On behalf of future visitors considering taking a bus tour, thank you so much for this very informative report. This seems to have been a very good tour.

Thanks Maryann. I didn’t want to make my report too long but...

As far as the whale watching tours, they were very different. At Saint Andrews by the Sea with two biologists on board it had an educational component, since it was a large catamaran it more comfortable (we were inside if we wanted to be or outside if that was our choice). We saw some Finback whales, minke whales and a Right Whale (the biologists got very excited about seeing the Right Whale) in addition to harbour seals and porpoises, a shark and bald eagles. It was a very professional tour. The tour on Cape Breton was fun! Once I got over my fear of getting into a small boat that was quite minimalist I had a blast ... so did everyone even if we did get wet. People on our tour bus had to split up into two boats and I was like enough to be on the smallest! We saw a sunfish, some schooling fish and pilot whales a whole pod of pilot whales! The assistant had a book to pass around to show us different things that we were seeing as opposed to having a biologist on board but it was so much fun and very exciting having the water so close to the boat and the spray flying into our faces. I’m really happy that there were 2 tours because they were very different and both were very good! I’d have to say I learned more on the tour from Saint Andrews while I had more fun on the tour from Cape Breton.

You clearly describe the advantages and disadvantages of bus tours and it seems like you were on a good one.

We hope to see you back here sometime.

US oil, natural gas industry at risk amid intense Atlantic hurricane season forecast, feds say

The u.s. energy information administration (eia) said hurricanes mainly affect the oil market by disrupting offshore oil production and refinery operations in the federal offshore gulf of mexico. last year, the area accounted for 14% of total u.s. crude oil production..

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) released its 2024 Atlantic hurricane season outlook on Thursday and is predicting above-normal hurricane activity in the Atlantic basin this year.

NOAA predicts above-normal 2024 Atlantic hurricane season

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) released its 2024 Atlantic hurricane season outlook on Thursday and is predicting above-normal hurricane activity in the Atlantic basin this year.

The likelihood of an especially active Atlantic hurricane season raises concerns about weather-related disruptions in the U.S. oil and natural gas sector, according to federal energy officials.

NOAA's official hurricane forecast calls for 17-25 named storms this year, of which 8-13 may become hurricanes. It is the largest number of named storms ever forecast by the agency, surpassing the 14-23 range predicted in 2010.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) said hurricanes mainly affect the oil market by disrupting offshore oil production and refinery operations in the Federal Offshore Gulf of Mexico (GOM). Last year, the area accounted for 14% of total U.S. crude oil production.

"Offshore oil and natural gas floating production units must contend with some of the most severe hazards associated with hurricanes and tropical storms ; they must have emergency procedures to evacuate nonessential personnel and temporarily halt production," the agency said.

Refining of crude oil is also affected by hurricanes along certain parts of the Gulf Coast. Refineries along the Texas and Louisiana Gulf coasts account for almost half of U.S. refining capacity, the EIA notes. These facilities are at risk of flooding or power outages during major storms or hurricanes.

Like offshore floating production facilities, refineries may be temporarily shut down in anticipation of major storms, and severe damage could lead to permanent closures, as seen in 2021 with ConocoPhillips Alliance Refinery in Belle Chase, Louisiana, the EIA reports.

Hurricanes can cause problems for U.S. petroleum supplies in the mid-Atlantic region. The biggest refinery on the East Coast, Bayway in New Jersey , operated by Phillips 66, was impacted by Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

In Florida , hurricanes can disrupt supply chains for petroleum products. Although petroleum fuels are not refined in the Sunshine State, the state has significant gasoline demand, the EIA said. During major hurricanes, changes in consumer behavior can lead to temporary spikes in fuel demand, affecting prices due to local supply shortages or panic-buying.

Last year's Atlantic hurricane season had 20 named storms, but only one made landfall in the U.S. None of last year’s storms had a significant impact on U.S. petroleum infrastructure , the EIA said.

Can hurricanes impact the natural gas market?

A hurricane in the GOM could potentially decrease natural gas production, the EIA said. However, recent hurricanes have had a limited effect on the overall U.S. natural gas supply due to the continual decline in GOM gas production.

"The GOM provided less than 2% of total U.S. marketed natural gas production in 2023, down from 17% in 2005 when Hurricanes Katrina and Rita interrupted significant volumes of natural gas production," the EIA said.

Hurricanes can also disrupt U.S. natural gas demand by affecting liquefied natural gas (LNG) export operations from the Gulf Coast, which has almost 13 billion cubic feet per day of export capacity.

"Although LNG facilities generally have many layers of protection from direct impact, hurricanes can damage electrical and marine infrastructure and hamper ship movement," the agency adds.

Most recently, the effects of Hurricane Laura, which made landfall in August 2020, temporarily halted LNG exports from Louisiana’s Sabine Pass and Cameron LNG facilities.

Condoleeza Rice asked Milei to return soon

Milei rounds up Californian tour

In his meeting with Zuckerberg (L), Milei underlined Argentina's lack of regulations regarding technological developments which could favor companies such as Meta

Argentine President Javier Milei rounded up his Californian trip after a meeting with Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and was headed for El Salvador for Nayib Bukele's new inauguration aboard the ARG-01 Boeing 757.

During his encounter with Zuckerberg, Milei offered the Meta CEO to consider Argentina a possible destination for future investments. This meeting took place after those with CEOs Sundar Pichai (Google), Timothy Cook (Apple), and Sam Altman (Open AI).

At all these events, Milei spoke of the negative consequences the misuse of artificial intelligence may cause. He also underlined that, unlike in Europe, there were no regulations in Argentina restricting these developments, due to which the South American country was a fertile ground for their undertakings.

To become available for his engagement with Zuckerberg, Milei had to cancel an appearance at the Pacific Summit business forum. He was joined at the gathering by Presidential Secretary Karina Milei, Economy Minister Luis Toto Caputo, and Argentine Ambassador to Washington Gerardo Werthein.

Milei also insisted on the possibility of creating a technological hub in Argentina that would bring good opportunities to Meta in exchange for significant economic benefits to the country.

According to Casa Rosada, “this meeting not only strengthens the relationship between Argentina and Meta but also marks a milestone in President Milei's vision to position Argentina as a leader in technology and artificial intelligence.”

OpenAI partners with The Atlantic and The Verge publisher Vox Media

Time's almost up! There's only one week left to request an invite to The AI Impact Tour on June 5th. Don't miss out on this incredible opportunity to explore various methods for auditing AI models. Find out how you can attend here .

Another week, another round of valuable content partnerships between OpenAI and leading media publishers.

Today, both The Atlantic , the venerable American magazine and digital media powerhouse Vox Media — which owns The Verge, Vox.com, New York Magazine , Thrillist, SB Nation and numerous other titles — announced they are separately partnering with the maker of ChatGPT to license content from their publications for inclusion in the chatbot’s responses.

OpenAI will also get licensed content and data that it can use to train its large language models (LLMs) and multimedia AI models (such as GPT-4o , Sora ) on.

I am delighted that @theatlantic now has a strategic content & product partnership with @openai . Our stories will be discoverable in their new products and we'll be working with them to figure out new ways that AI can help serious, independent media : https://t.co/nfSVXW9KpB — nxthompson (@nxthompson) May 29, 2024

Disclosure: (I was formerly employed by both The Atlantic and Vox years ago.)

June 5th: The AI Audit in NYC

Join us next week in NYC to engage with top executive leaders, delving into strategies for auditing AI models to ensure optimal performance and accuracy across your organization. Secure your attendance for this exclusive invite-only event.

Full financial deals were not immediately disclosed but the companies said they would get access to OpenAI tech in addition to licensing fees for allowing OpenAI access to their content and data.

A growing list of publishers gobbled up by OpenAI and ChatGPT

The news comes a week after OpenAI announced a similar partnership with News Corp., publisher of The Wall Street Journal , New York Post and other outlets in the U.S. and abroad. It was reportedly worth $250 million over five years, or $50 million a year from OpenAI to the publisher for the privilege of training on and surfacing its content in ChatGPT.

Some journalists — including Jessica Lessin, founder and CEO of The Information , writing in The Atlantic mere days ago — have criticized publishers for being too quick to allow OpenAI access to their valuable content, but it seems the horse has left the barn at many outlets.

So far, OpenAI has struck licensing deals with the following media companies and publications:

  • The Atlantic (deal announced May 2024)
  • Vox Media (deal announced May 2024)
  • Meredith Dotdash  (deal announced May 2024)
  • The Financial Times  (deal announced April 2024)
  • Axel Springer (publisher of  Politico  and  Business Insider  in the U.S. and other titles in Europe)  (Dec. 2023)
  • The Associated Press  (July 2023)
  • The American Journalism Project  (July 2023)

Read Vox Media President Pam Wasserstein’s statement on the news below:

Hi everyone,

Today, I’m excited to share that Vox Media has entered a partnership with OpenAI, and I’ll take this opportunity to contextualize this agreement in terms of how the company is addressing AI more broadly.

The roadmap we’ve set across the company to support audience loyalty and editorial differentiation is even more important in the generative AI era. We must be essential to our audience, and cultivate meaningful relationships with them, to compete in an environment in which platforms are eager to commandeer and commoditize baseline factual information (and, amusingly, present nonsense information as fact , an entirely predictable result of a strategy that does not sufficiently value the contribution of responsible journalism). We also need to create new opportunities for audiences to discover our brands in different contexts as consumer behavior evolves. To achieve these goals, as always, it’s the original elements that most distinguish Vox Media and its editorial brands — authority and judgment, voice, reporting, valuable and entertaining content, community, creative solutions for partners, earned audience trust — that create our indispensability.

This is a rapidly-advancing space and we are approaching it with both enthusiasm and care. There will be ways to accelerate our ambitions using these powerful tools, and that is an exciting opportunity. But we’re also deliberate. Human judgment and creativity are integral to our business, as is our intellectual property.

I want to make you all aware of the framework that guides our approach to the use of AI-driven technology at Vox Media. Across the company, in this space, we are focused on:

Delivering innovation on behalf of our audiences and customers.

Vox Media has its origins in building better media products, and being tech-forward remains an important part of who we are. We have already developed AI-enabled services that deliver valuable experiences for our audiences and our advertising partners, including, for example, The Strategist’s Gift Scout (https://nymag.com/strategist/gift-scout.html) and capabilities for Forte, our first-party data platform.

Using assistive tools to elevate human creativity.

We are using AI across the company in a variety of ways today to improve our work processes. If you haven’t yet, you should experiment with these tools within existing editorial and engineering guidance. In the coming weeks, we will be sending out a company-wide policy to guide the use of AI across other departments, as well as a survey to better understand how we are all using AI. If you’re in doubt about whether or how to use an AI tool in the meantime, please get in touch with your team leader.

Expanding and protecting the value of our work and intellectual property (IP)

Vox Media’s published work is protected by copyright law, as well as the terms of service of our websites. We believe that without Vox Media’s permission, robots scraping our sites to train AI models or output that plagiarizes our content violate both copyright law and our terms of use. Having clear contractual rules and appropriate compensation for use of Vox Media’s published content is as relevant in AI as it is in any other context. We will continue to evaluate options in this area, including legal and public policy solutions as well as additional partnerships, to protect our published work and a robust and trustworthy news media ecosystem.

Vox Media’s partnership with OpenAI fits within this framework by:     •    Ensuring that Vox Media is compensated for OpenAI’s use of our published content, which also continues to set important precedent for our industry.       •    Increasing the visibility of our brands while marketing us in a new audience development context, by helping Vox Media to reach ChatGPT’s 100 million users.      •    Protecting our intellectual property by requiring attribution to our brands, limiting the summary that can appear in the display, and including links back to our sites when ChatGPT displays or references our published work.     •    Putting Vox Media among the first in line for certain products from OpenAI and establishing terms for the two companies to collaborate in our use of OpenAI’s technology to develop innovative products for Vox Media’s consumers and advertising partners.

We’ll be issuing a press release announcing this deal shortly.

We’re proud of this agreement, which is part of a broader approach to ensuring that Vox Media’s work is enhanced and amplified as AI continues to change how we all use the internet, how we inform and receive information, and how we entertain and consume entertainment. We will use this technology to innovate while also continuing to ensure that the important work that we do is valued and protected. At this moment, there is an even greater need for our trusted journalism, community and storytelling: Our work has never been more essential.
